OT13 as: types of people during Diwali
a/n: diwali is the indian festival of lights, and it celebrates the triumph of good over evil; light over darkness. people usually celebrate by dressing up in traditional clothes, bursting fireworks, decorating their houses in diyas (small lamps that look like this 🪔) and distributing sweets. in light of the festival just passing by, i thought of this! hope you guys like it <3
p.s. this is entirely my opinion and there's lots of other ways people behave during/celebrate diwali. this was written just based on my observations.
contents: mentions of firecrackers , seventeen written as desi boys (i was inspired to write this after watching them do the holiday dance w an indian carat)
firecracker names:
atom / sutli / chocolate bombs - really loud and annoying (don't mind the names)
chakra - circle-shaped. when lit, it rotates on the ground with one end on fire. VERY scary (to me)
pop pop - tiny round crackers that make a popping sound when you throw them on the ground. cute and harmless
rockets - the basic ones that whoosh into the sky and then burst into fireworks. pretty, but once lit, you need to be careful of it zooming at you
sparklers - pretty basic. they're sticks that, once lit, start sparkling. used to light the other types of crackers
type 1: the annoying people that burst firecrackers the entire night.
seungcheol: buys the LOUDEST bombs/crackers ; will be firing them off past midnight and ruin any chances of the neighborhood getting sleep. he's the guy that brings like ten candles and matchsticks (important because it helps people light up their crackers.)
jeonghan: simply evil. will throw pop pops at people for no reason. is a grown-up but will buy one of those fake diwali guns (they dont have bullets, just make a loud sound when fired) and chase little kids around.
chan: courageous (stupid) enough to hold a mini-rocket in his hand, light it while its in his hand (which is not supposed to be done) and throw the rocket out into the open. probably annoys girls by chasing behind them with sparklers, hoping to charm them. (the girls hate him.)
soonyoung: he's probably lighting chakras and then getting a friend (chan) to kick it around like it's a football. as if the thing isn't SPARKLING and on FIRE. has probably set off too many rockets into people's homes. he's a menace in the neighborhood.
type 2: the kind people who distribute sweets among neighbours and friends.
mingyu: he's probably making all the sweet treats by himself at home, with the help of his mom's recipes. packs them up in a cute way and gives them to his neighbors. (petty asf so he will avoid that annoying girl who stole extra sweets from him last year.)
joshua: bought like 20 of those expensive gift boxes with 5 different types of sweets in them for all his neighbors and friends because he's a sweetheart.
junhui: would also be distributing things among loved ones, but not the sweets people hope to see. the intricately designed box is opened to reveal ..... dry fruits. sorry jun, but those suck! (i'm also allergic.)
type 3: the unbothered people who ignore/sleep through the noise.
hansol: we've seen him sleep through grown-men doing karaoke. sleeping through firecrackers is light work for him.
jihoon: probably just immerses himself into his work. will be holed up in his studio, so all outside noise is cancelled out.
wonwoo: would also be engrossed in gaming or something that requires him putting his noise-cancelling headphones on. the smoke from the crackers makes his eyes burn, so he doesn't burst crackers.
type 4: the scaredy-cats and drama queens.
seokmin: he's going to be amidst all the firecrackers, but he's going to be screaming his ass off the entire time. people will be going deaf that evening. will act like the tiny pop pops are life-threatening. (they aren't.)
seungkwan: dramatics will be dialled up to a 100. initially, he's gonna bitch about all the people who burst crackers and call them annoying because the sound irritates him. but he will be found downstairs in the evening because he has major FOMO. will be either throwing out side-eyes or scolding people who are a threat to him (literally just trying to give him a sparkler.)
type 5: the eco-friendly person.
minghao: the type of guy to go around saying, "this year, i'm celebrating a green diwali" (which is good btw. bursting crackers severely pollutes the air) unfortunately, all his friends and the little kids think he's either too scared to join them or too superficial for caring about the environment. he doesn't care anyways ; will be decorating his house all pretty with lights and diyas though.

Happy Dhanteras: How Preschools Celebrated with Children.
In the kaleidoscope of Indian festivals, Dhanteras shines as a day of wealth, prosperity, and new beginnings. Preschools in India play a vital role in introducing kids to the cultural richness of festivals, and Happy Dhanteras becomes a special occasion for both learning and celebration. In this article, we'll explore how preschools create a joyful environment for kids during Dhanteras, and we'll also delve into questions like what to buy on Dhanteras, why Dhanteras is celebrated, and how to do Dhanteras puja.
Tumblr media
Happy Dhanteras in Preschools: A Blend of Tradition and Joy
Preschools embrace the festive spirit by incorporating age-appropriate activities and rituals into the curriculum. Happy Dhanteras, being the first day of the Diwali celebrations, is marked with enthusiasm and excitement. Here's a glimpse into how preschools celebrate Dhanteras with kids:
Decorations and Crafts: Classrooms come alive with vibrant decorations and creative crafts. Kids engage in making diyas, creating Rangoli patterns, and crafting simple ornaments to capture the essence of the festival.
Storytelling Sessions: Storytelling is an integral part of Dhanteras celebrations in preschools. Teachers narrate engaging tales that simplify the significance of Dhanteras, making it relatable and fun for kids.
Dress-Up Days: kids love dressing up, and Dhanteras provides the perfect opportunity. Preschools often organize dress-up days, encouraging kids to come adorned in traditional attire, connecting them to their cultural roots.
Happy Dhanteras Snacks: Special snacks are prepared, aligning with the festive theme. kids get to enjoy traditional sweets like ladoos and share these delectable treats with their friends, fostering a sense of community and sharing.
Happy Dhanteras Songs and Rhymes: Music and movement are integral parts of preschool learning. Teachers introduce Happy Dhanteras songs and rhymes, incorporating dance and rhythm into the festivities, keeping the kids engaged and excited.
What to Buy on Dhanteras: Teaching kids about Traditions
The tradition of buying gold, silver, or utensils on Dhanteras is deeply ingrained in the festival. Preschools take this opportunity to introduce kids to the concept of prosperity and the significance of certain purchases. Teachers may conduct interactive sessions, showing images of items traditionally bought on Dhanteras and explaining their symbolic importance.
For kids, this understanding becomes a sensory experience as they may engage in activities like playing with pretend gold and silver coins, enhancing their cognitive development through play-based learning.
Why is Dhanteras Celebrated: A Story for Little Minds
Preschools take the opportunity to impart the cultural and historical significance of Dhanteras through age-appropriate storytelling sessions. Teachers simplify the narrative, explaining the legend of Dhanvantari, the divine physician, and the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan), connecting these stories to the essence of well-being and prosperity.
Through these stories, kids learn not just about the festival but also imbibe values of sharing, caring, and the importance of health.
How to Do Dhanteras Puja: A Toddler-Friendly Introduction
Preschools recognize the importance of rituals in festivals and introduce kids to the concept of puja in a simple and joyful manner. Teachers may organize a mini Dhanteras puja, where kids participate in activities like offering flowers, lighting diyas, and singing prayers.
By incorporating these rituals into the preschool routine, teachers aim to instill a sense of reverence and understanding of cultural practices among kids.
The Role of Parent Apps: Bridging Preschool Celebrations and Home Traditions
In the digital age, the "parent app" becomes a vital link between preschool celebrations and family traditions. Through the app, parents receive updates on the Happy Dhanteras activities their kids participated in, allowing them to continue the festive spirit at home.
Parents can extend the learning by discussing the significance of Dhanteras, practicing simple puja rituals, and engaging in creative activities related to the festival.
Conclusion: Nurturing Cultural Connections in Early Learning
Preschools, whether they are the "play school near me" or situated elsewhere, play a crucial role in shaping the cultural understanding of kids. Happy Dhanteras becomes more than just a celebration; it becomes an educational journey where kids learn about traditions, values, and the joy of festivals.
As little hands craft diyas, little feet dance to festive tunes, and little minds absorb stories of prosperity, the celebration of Happy Dhanteras in preschools becomes a tapestry of cultural richness and early education. Through these experiences, kids not only celebrate a festival but also take their first steps toward understanding the diverse and vibrant tapestry of Indian traditions.

Finding the Right Balance Between Traditional vs. Modern Diwali Kids Wear
Tumblr media
Indians are known for their unique traditional clothing, reflecting their diverse cultures and lifestyles. During festivals, they cherish their ethnic wear like dhoti-kurta, ghagra-choli, kurta-pajama, salwar suits, sarees, and traditional kids' wear. Diwali, the festival of lights, is a time of joy, celebration, and togetherness for families across India. While it's a time to adorn new outfits and look your best, choosing the perfect attire for your kids can be a delightful but often challenging task. Do you opt for the traditional, classic Indian attire, or embrace the modern styles that are trending in today's fashion scene? Finding the right balance between traditional and modern Diwali kids wear can be a rewarding adventure. Here are some tips to help you make the best choice for your little ones, and you can conveniently Buy Kids' Diwali Wear Online.
The Essence of Tradition
Diwali is deeply rooted in Indian traditions and culture, and it's a great opportunity to instill these values in your children. Traditional Diwali kids wear, such as lehengas for girls and kurta-pajamas for boys, not only look adorable but also carry a sense of heritage and time-honored customs. They symbolize respect for the festival's history and can be a great way to educate your children about the significance of Diwali.
Exploring Modern Trends
In recent years, the fashion industry has seen a surge in contemporary and fusion wear for kids. These stylish, modern outfits often incorporate traditional elements in a fresh, youthful way. Dresses with intricate embroidery, vibrant colors, and contemporary silhouettes can make your kids look fashionable while still respecting the essence of Diwali. These outfits offer a great mix of tradition and modernity.
Age Appropriate Choices
When making the decision between traditional and modern Diwali attire, it's important to consider your child's age. Younger children may find traditional outfits more comfortable and easier to manage. As they grow older, you can introduce them to trendier, fusion styles that cater to their evolving fashion sense.
Personal Preferences
Ultimately, it's crucial to consider your child's comfort and preferences. Engage them in the decision-making process, asking for their input and allowing them to express their style. This not only ensures they feel comfortable in their Diwali outfit but also empowers them to embrace the festivities with enthusiasm.
Mix and Match
One of the most creative ways to find the perfect balance between traditional and modern Diwali kids clothing is to mix and match elements from both styles. For instance, you can pair a traditional kuna with contemporary jeans for boys or combine a traditional lehenga like Li & Li's Maroon and Peach Printed Lehenga with a stylish, modern blouse for girls. Hi! I was the Hair Massage anon. Thank you so much for that it was beautiful 😭😭. The Good Girl AU really just wants me to throw fic/Drabble ideas at you based on so many Indian things. But you have so many asks! Just one more. If you don’t mind. So I don’t know how many people do this but I did this in my wedding. When the bride does henna on her hands (and arms) it’s really detailed and hidden in the design is the grooms name which he needs to find a cute wedding night game so he can get “it”
WAIT!
Is this a thing?! This is so cute! Oh My god, I can't, White people, our weddings are so basic.
Anyway, as we know it's my opinion that Good Girls Kate and Anthony had a traditional wedding (Just imagine Anthony's face when he realises that they don't get to kiss at the end bless him)
So yeah, let's do it
"Do you want to have a traditional wedding?"
The question from Anthony's lips had pulled her up short, in the early days of their engagement when they'd bee wrapped up together, Kate about to graduate university, Anthony finishing his apprenticeship, no real effort being made to plan anything just yet.
"Traditional for you or me?"
He'd rolled his eyes at that, "Well your Dad's yet to issue me with betrothal paperwork yet so he's already behind there."
"You mean you're not getting any money for marrying me? Tragic."
His smile was still the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen, "Yeah you're worth zero cows apparently, we're gonna have to buy milk forever now."
Silence had fallen over them for a moment, stupid happiness, radiating from them, but it had gnawed at her stomach.
"Are you serious? You'd have a Hindu wedding if I asked you?"
And she wasn't sure why she was surprised, Anthony had always been so ready to embrace her culture, all the parts of herself, even sometimes more than she had. He got excited about Diwali and Holi, and had the days marked as off so they could visit her family, knowing it was important to them. He sat with her grandma who gently explained traditions, his eyes alight with curiosity. He'd even said at Holi this year, when his eyes had got stuck on a young family, the tiny baby laughing delightedly as the colours hung in the air
"I can't wait to do this with our kids."
And it had caught in her throat.
While he might not act like it, his family was old money rich and white and steeped in tradition, and he had to know that this would raise a few eyebrows amongst is more distant relatives.
"Well my family isn't really that religious, and I've been to weddings with your family, this is important to them. But if you don't want to, then we don't have to, we can do the macarena and form a conga line, I just wanna be married to you at the end of it." He'd looked so earnest, his eyes bright, his hair braided on the top of his head and tears had pricked at her eyes.
"My Grandma is going to love you even more now."
So they'd started planning, Anthony's eyes alight with curiosity, Violet curiously following Mary's gentle instruction her own gentle curiosity nearly bubbling over.
And then it was done, over in what seemed like a flash, Mary helping her dress in the most intricate Sari she'd ever wear in her life, The tears in Anthony's eyes when he saw her walking towards him, is hand tight on her as they'd taken the first seven steps of their new life together, his little wink as she'd lain the flowers against his chest, both their families cheering as turmeric hung in the air and the rice showered down on both of them. His smile so beautifully, perfectly content, just like her own.
"This is really pretty."
They'd snuck out the side just for a minute, one minute alone before being engulfed by their families again.
His finger was tracing the intricate design running over the palms of her hands, tickling up her forearms. "My Mum and the girls said it was fun."
He'd been so surprised when she'd mentioned casually that his Mum and sisters would be at the mehndi party almost as though he had been worried they'd be shut out of it. The groom's family always comes it's nice. Kate had said , before he could try and thank her.
Kate smiled, "It was fun, though sitting still for four hours was a little bit of a challenge."
"You've never done it like this before." He was staring down at it in the dim light outside so curiously, one of his arms wrapped around her waist, the other turning her hand over curiously.
"Well I wasn't the bride before." She rolled her eyes, resting her chin against his shoulder, "The darker it is the more you love me."
Anthony huffed curiously, "Well then I don't think it's dark enough."
It was stupid, how much she loved him, how his eyes wrinkled with his smile made her heart beat faster. "Traditionally I'm also not supposed to do any housework until it comes off, so look out for that."
Anthony rolled his eyes, "I already do all the cooking what else are you trying to get out of Princess?"
"And your name's in there."
That stopped him, his eyes flashing brightly, "Where?"
he was turning her hand over pulling her arm away from her body her eyes scanning, and it made her love him even more, his brow furrowed in concentration.
"Ahh but that's the game, Anthony, you have to find it."
He gasped delightedly, "Do you know where it is?"
"Yes, so you can't just pretend to find it." She rolled her eyes.
"What do I get if I win?" He looked like a tiny excited boy, his hair falling in his eyes, and then he gasped again, "No, No, I want a kiss, that's what I want if I find it!"
"I was going to give you a little more than that, but yes Anthony, if you find your name I'll give you a kiss."
"Right, silence please, I need to concentrate." His brow was furrowed, his jaw set determinedly she finger tracing up her hand.
"Katie! Mary's looking for you!" Her Dad's voice had interrupted them, calling across the grass.
Anthony whined, "But I haven't found my name yet!"
trying to tug Kate back as she walked back towards their families, Her Dad laughed, slapping Anthony on the shoulder.
"I spent 5 hours looking for my name when I married Kate's Mum only to discover, they'd forgotten to put it in."
Anthony gasped, looking accusingly at Kate.
"It's definitely in there, I had your Mum do it."
"I'm going to find it!" He called at her retreating back.
"I hope you do!"
If there was one thing to be said for Anthony, he was diligent, even when she tried to slap his hands away while she spoke with her aunties, Anthony's hands were tugging at hers turning them over, his eyes scanning, barely listening.
"He's looking for his name." She explained needlessly,
Anthony's ears turning red when her grandmother hollered, "Have you really not found it yet Anthony?"
And in the end, she was sure it was an accident, She was walking ahead of him, headed towards Edwina a Sophie, huddled in the corner of the room, walking across the dancefloor when he let out a gasp.
"I've found it!" He yelled triumphantly, catching her left hand, spinning her by it so she faced him, his finger tracing the outline of his name, written on the knuckle of her ring finger, just below where her wedding ring would rest forever.
"I found my name!" He called out a little louder so that everyone could hear him over the music still playing, and he looked so delighted, so happily, boyishly delighted, that oddly, Kate felt like she fell in love with him all over again.
'You did."
"and now," He said a little delightedly shuffling closer to her, "I think you owe me a kiss."
Heart hammering in her chest, she leaned up and pressed their lips together lightly, while their family cheered around him.
"You can have the rest of your prize later."
And Anthony's little Whoop! Was truly, her favourite part of the day

Pairing : Tom Holland x desi! reader
After moving to London for your job this is the third time in a row you’re going to miss diwali back at home. It’s festival season in India but obviously you won’t get holidays to go back home. So you have to be content with facetiming your family and watching the celebrations through your phone screen.
Even though you appeared happy, Tom knew you better. He could totally see how gloomy you were for not being able to meet your family and spend time with them. And at that very moment he decided to surprise you by throwing a small diwali party.
The next day he sends you shopping with his mother so that you don’t suspect anything. In the meantime he calls your mother to ask her about all your favorite indian dishes. Making a list he sends it to Sam so that he and Harry can go to the store and buy all the required ingredients. The whole day they were busy preparing the dishes though it was mostly Sam who went about bossing them around in the kitchen being the chef in the house.
You were back by evening when Tom comes to your shared bedroom. “Y/N tonight we are going to have dinner at my parents house” he says taking out his shirt and trousers which he mostly wears on dinner dates.
“Ok” you reply and got up to take out a dress.
“Why don’t you dress up in your traditional wear for tonight?” he suggests.
You knit your eyebrows looking at him skeptically “Traditional wear? What for?”
“Nothing” he shrugs “it’s just I love to see you in them”
“But those are for special occasions” you say hesitantly.
“Please darling, for me?” He gives you his irresistible puppy eyes.
You sigh “All right. Sometimes you really act like a kid”. You rummage through your closet and pull out your long anarkali suit which you pair it with matching earrings and bangles. You put on some light makeup and decide to let your hair down for tonight.
“Wow you look gorgeous” Tom says not able to turn his eyes from you as you walk down the stairs.
“You don’t look any less handsome either” you snicker.
You went to his parents house but strangely you found no one in the living room. Tom gives you a smile and leads you to the backyard. As soon as you stepped out everyone shouted.
“Surprise!!”
Your eyes go wide in awe as you see the backyard decorated with fairy lights. Two fountain firecrackers were lit up as dazzling sparkles erupt from them.
“Oh my god!” You gasped “what’s all this Tom?”
“Well it’s diwali isn’t it? And you have always told me how much you enjoyed during this time so I thought to surprise you with a little party”
“You really didn’t need to do this for me”
“Honey I love you and I also know how much this means to you” he said cradling your face in his hands “I know this isn’t quite like the celebrations you have back at your home but I hate see you upset”
“Aww Tom this is perfect. I love it” you kiss him softly “I already feel like I’m home”
“Well this will be your home anyways after you two get married” Nikki remarks making you both blush.
Together you light some sparklers as you look up in the sky at the colorful array of fireworks. After it was over you went inside to be surprised yet again. The dining table was laid with all your favorite dishes as well as sweets.
“Did you guys make all this?!”
“It was all Sam we just helped,” Harry says, scratching the back of his neck shyly.
“Thank you so much guys this is the best diwali I ever had” you say, happy tears forming at the corner of your eyes.
“Anything for you love” Tom says “Now c’mon have a seat” he pulls out a chair for you as you sit down. He serves you some pulao with curry on your plate as you gorged on the milk cakes and jalebis which taste heavenly. Everyone sits down on their respective seats enjoying a full course indian meal. Your heart swelled at it as you feel like the luckiest girl in the world for that moment.

It's a beautiful thing.. How is Halloween traditionally made? Do you guys go trick or treating?
It really is beautiful with a beautiful meaning as well 🖤🖤🖤 And the outfits you get to wear are so pretty!!
Halloween has really gotten away from the traditional pagan way it was celebrated so now its mainly celebrated almost exactly how you see on Tv.
Originally, Hallows Eve / Samhain had carved turnips and gourds out with candles to scare away evil spirits, Irish decent would hold dumb suppers for your ancestors where you would lay out a plate of food as an offering for them and eat in silence to honor them, candles were lit especially at crossroads to help the dead in limbo find their way. Now we took some of those traditions and twisted them a bit with modernization. However, a lot of pagan witches still celebrate it the way it was intended from honoring your ancestors to always keeping a candle lit until midnight to even contacting the dead. Building fires as well for the same reason as the camdles.

We definitely go trick r treating. Usually children under 12 are the ones that go and it's 'frowned upon' if anyone 13 and up goes BUT it's become more lenient in recent years. I got glares being 5'8 tall and trick r treating at 13 but my 4'11 34 year old cousin with me got zero glares 12 years ago bc obviously they thought she was a kid and I was an adult 😐. I was shocked when I dressed up again at 22 right before covid hit and walked around handing out candy to kids and had other adults insisting on giving ME candy 😅 (I took it kept some but most got distributed to kids)
We carve pumpkins, we dress up, adults go to bars and adult parties dressed up (I don't bc I don't drink) kids and young teens go trick r treating, adults and older kids passout candy, we decorate houses with lights and anything from cute pumpkins to gross zombies and fake blood depending on what the person decorating likes, we can go pumpkin picking in a field or go through a corn maze or haunted house but it's definitely not a must.
Tumblr media
Halloween is a super carefree holiday here in the US. Some people go all out with decorations and Halloween parties and others don't. It depends on where you live too!! I live in rural area so obviously not much Halloween here but thankfully I live 30 minutes from a campgrounds that has a HUGE Halloween bash! Like Hocus Pocus? That's what we have thank god! And we have a Pumkpin Festival in a nearby town that has pumpkin flavored everything and parades. But I've heard from many ppl that if you go to warmer weather states (I live in Appalachian area it's cold) while us colder states do? I think because we have such drastic change that puts us in the mood for it with changing leaves and cool air.
And if you want to just stay home, not decorate and eat candy while watching horror movies or cute Halloween shows; you can.
If you watch Hocus Pocus, that's how most cooler states are in general and Salem Massachusetts definitely goes all out. Honestly most Halloween movies are pretty accurate on how it's celebrated here.
