Like fr to everyone in the notes talking about headcanons/AUs/"having fun" in the notes: the word you are looking for is REinterpretation. Not to go webster or anything but
-Interpret: explain the meaning of information, words, or actions. (explain, expound, clarify)
-Misinterpret: interpret something or someone wrongly. (misunderstand, misconstrue, mistake)
-Reinterpret: interpret something in a new or different light.
It seems in fandom spaces the word interpretation is often used at times when what they actually mean is reinterpretation (or sometimes just reaction or impression, ex: your opinion of a character is subjective and valid, but that's not the same as an interpretation).
If your "interpretation" is completely divorced from or contradicts the text, it's not an interpretation anymore. It's a reinterpretation. A reimagining. And yeah you can totally have your fun, go off! Just don't act like it IS an interpretation. Because valid interpretations come with supporting evidence, which is the whole point of the og post.
I think this bit from OP's other reblog describes it best:
this is one way it gets messy that fandom is a space for both media analysis and transformative works even though those two things donât always co-exist comfortably or necessarily serve each other.
This is the crux. Both happen in fandom because both are a form of engaging with a work that you appreciate. But one literally relies upon analyzing what IS presented in the text, and the other upon reinventing and transforming that text (and headcanon sometimes straddles this line in between). So the important thing is recognizing the distinctions and not mixing them up. And it goes both ways:
-âHe would never act that wayâ we know, itâs an intentional recharacterization bc we're exploring something different right now
-âBut he's just a poor meow meowâ not relevant right now because we're analyzing how the writing actually portrayed him
Textual evidence doesn't matter when we're just having fun and making incorrect quote memes, and headcanons don't matter when we're analyzing thematic content. The distinction helps us to have more productive conversations. And crossing the streams can sometimes take us to harmful or frustrating extremes.
To borrow an example from Rowan Ellis: You relate to a Taylor Swift song and feel seen in your queer identity? That's great, no one can stop you from experiencing the song that way even if Taylor didn't intend it. But if you turn that around and say this is proof that Taylor herself must be secretly queer, or worse that she's somehow queerbaiting? Please stop!
Another example: Someone once pulled the "we're just having fun, you can scroll past" card on me when they were straight up bashing the writing for not going the way they wanted. Please, have your fun, I won't stop you. Write a fix-it au where your blorbo comes back to life. Vive la fanfic! But when you say "the writers should have done [random specific thing] if they wanted me to believe he was truly dead" whilst blatantly misinterpreting the thing the writers did do to confirm it so it can fit into your theories/denial? That's not 'just having fun' anymore, that's flawed/unfair criticism and I'mma push back on it. (I didn't actually, just for the record)
Headcanons by definition are not canon, and I think you'll find most people are totally fine with you having whatever headcanons you want, so long as you don't start claiming that they are canon or that your way is the only way. That's where people have a problem.
But even headcanons that don't contradict canon, that could fit into ambiguous gaps where canon did not confirm or deny the possibility either way, are still headcanons. They aren't presented in the text itself and therefore not useful to analysis and criticism.
And I think this is where the distinction can feel blurry at times. Because some headcanoning is based on evidence from the source material. So some may think it's the same as media analysis, but I'd call it extrapolation rather than interpretation. It uses canon evidence in more of a imaginative/conspiracy theory/inspiration to bounce off type of way. Especially since fanon is often about filling in gaps.
Fanon focuses on the story, and treats it almost as if it and the characters are living. But media analysis relies upon treating it as media. On recognizing it was written by a person who made choices and used literary devices and elements intentionally to convey meaning (even if we can debate on what that meaning is).
Subtext is not just whatever you want to project onto a story. Subtext is an actual literary device. Meaning that is intentionally implied by the author because you shouldn't spell everything out and it's important to let the readers participate. It's what the characters aren't saying but the author is.
Unreliable narrator is also a literary device, that is intentionally crafted and indicated throughout the whole text. It's the author saying something through the character saying the opposite. It's not an excuse to ignore whatever you want to ignore of what the narrator says.
Characters aren't people and they don't actually make any choices. Everything they do, everything they are, was written and crafted by the author.
(In short, when I analyze character arcs or critique writing choices, I'd love for the discussion I get to point out things I may have overlooked or misinterpreted. Not for it to just shove in a bunch of irrelevant headcanons, character personifications, and Watsonian explanations that have nothing to do with my arguments.)
Fanon is very open-world concept (and open multiverse lol), but analysis is about looking at what the author did give you, what they chose to include or not and what it is meant to show us.
Writing is about crafting an iceberg that implies a keel under the water. Therefore analysis is about studying the iceberg to try to interpret that keel. And fanon is about exploring the whole ocean. And transformative work is about idk cutting off chunks and making ice sculptures.
All of them are very cool and fun in their own right but I think we can see how they can definitely clash and get in each other's way.
Not âOnly my reading of canon is correctâ or âInterpretations are subjective and all validâ but a secret third thing, âMore than one interpretation can be valid but thereâs a reason your English teacher had you cite quotes and examples in your papers, you have to have a strong argument that your interpretation is actually supported by the text or it is just wrong and Iâm fine with telling you itâs wrong, actually.â
#lol i'm THIS close to going full folklore nerd and like writing a paper about the different functions of fandom and fanfic#bc i think the categories would be both fascinating and extremely helpful#media literacy#literary analysis#media analysis#media criticism#fanon vs canon#fandom folklore#I'd also add that misinterpretations are not always benign and can have impact#like think of âdrift kirkâ and what that mischaracterization has done to that character

More Phaidei Fics I Want to Read
1. Obligatory "fish out of water" fic (mostly AU because the timeline would probably not match canon, but we do what we want here!), taking place after Mydei and the Kremnoans first make it to Okhema. Okhema is already harsh on outsiders, let alone on a conquering "barbarian" tribe infamous for bringing strife to so many other city states. Mydei doesn't know the local customs at all, and while he doesn't care the slightest about how these pathetic Okhemans see him, the trouble he keeps getting into is affecting the reputations of innocent Kremnoans too. He's got to find a way to blend in, at least enough to stop costing his fellows any chance of finding paid work... Too bad the only person who is willing (and has time) to help is Phainon (who isn't native to Okhema either but done a much better job of learning to get along with the locals). The guy thinks he's the Titans' gift to Amphoreus just because he beat Mydei in a duel once. It was only once! And why does it matter whether we eat standing up or lying down? What are you laughing at, Savior Complex?! Or, tl;dr: The culture clash comedy one where Phainon and Mydei teach each other entirely opposing sets of manners, and come to learn a lot more about one another in the process.
2. Also obligatory omegaverse where Mydei is an omega born with a unique constitution: he's built like an alpha, snarls like an alpha, and dominates his opponents like an alpha. He even smells like an alpha, especially when he's in heat, so the only people who ever figured out his secondary gender were his doctor and his parents, all of whom are dead now. The whole world thinks Mydei is an alpha, and his reputation as an indomitable warrior prince pretty much hinges on people continuing to believe that. The problem is, Mydei wouldn't actually mind getting to live an omega's life, at least the part about finding a mate and starting a family. Only, who in the world would want him for a mate? Any alpha hunting for an actual omega would never think to look in Mydei's direction, betas would just be confused, and even those few alphas who are attracted to other alphas would only end up disappointed after discovering Mydei isn't one. He's nobody's ideal partner, and he'd mostly made peace with that--until Phainon. Until that upstart alpha from the middle of nowhere knocked Mydei down in a brutal spar and then pulled him up with the gentlest hand, and suddenly it mattered that no one would ever want Mydei. It mattered a lot. (Of course, the long and short of it is that Mydei is the man of Phainon's dreams, and after a series of setbacks and miscommunications and lots of silly angst, they'll find their way to a happy ending.)
3. After discovering Mydei's weakness for sweets and cute things like pink pomegranate juice, Phainon decides to engage in a bit of light-hearted teasing: He starts sending Mydei exceedingly adorable gifts and fancy candies under the guise of a "secret admirer." The joke is on Phainon, however, when it turns out Mydei finds the gifts quite charming and is determined to discover the identity of the mysterious gift giver. A reasonable person would quickly give up on the joke to avoid getting caught, but Phainon has always been weak to chasing thrills--and maybe this whole thing about being Mydei's "secret admirer" isn't too far off after all... (The real joke is that Mydei, realizing immediately who the gifts were from, invented an entire "hunting my admirer down" story just for the fun of watching Phainon squirm--and, well, because keeping the whole thing going, being showered with attention by his rival, doesn't feel too bad at all.)
4. The opposite fic: The one where Mydei's completely mismatched online personality accidentally catfishes Phainon and causes some very silly drama. Mydei's (anonymous) teletweet account is full of cutesy chimera kitten memes, aesthetic pictures of food, heart emojis, and overly punctuated (with exclamation points) recaps of shopping trips in Okhema's market... Can anyone blame Phainon for thinking this is the account of a cute girl who is refreshingly earnest about her love for chubby seals and pink milk tea? But as Phainon becomes closer and closer to "Fig Stew" online, things get more and more complicated--because he's also been getting closer and closer to his real world companion Mydeimos lately. Both Fig and Mydei are wonderful, and Phainon can barely bear the thought of losing either of them in his life. Trying to get closer to them both would be way too dishonest, but choosing one over the other... What should he do? Meanwhile, Mydei is in trouble. He wasn't planning to set up some secret identity or anything; it's not his fault Phainon mistook him for a girl online! There's nothing weird about dudes posting sparkling kitten gifs, godsdammit!! But now the charade's gone on way too long to come clean, especially since Phainon seems so invested, and... well, can you blame Mydei for not wanting to give up on the closest thing to a relationship he's ever managed to start? tl;dr: Online mistaken identity hijinks fic.
5. The required-in-every-fandom time travel fic (with bonus fake dating)! Through an outpouring of Oronyx's power, Mydei and Phainon end up in the bodies of their future selves, who, it turns out, have not only managed to end Amphoreus' war and revive Castrum Kremnos, but... appear to have also... gotten married?!! Now Mydei and Phainon have to not only find out exactly how their future selves managed to save the world (so they can accomplish the same task) then look for a way back to their own time--they've got to do all of that while also pretending to be a happily wedded pair of rulers to avoid raising everyone's suspicions. This would be a whole lot easier if either of them knew the first thing about being actual kings... or about relationships. The slightest slip up could create ripple effects that change the entire timeline permanently, but--no matter how nerve-wracking it might be to admit, after seeing the future in store for them together--there's nothing Phainon (and Mydei) won't do to make sure things go exactly as they should.

Could you elaborate why you think Big and Might/Will be Bad Wolf is more fitting for Hong Lu than Heath? Cus it's story of being forced to only be the villain because of *what* it is is pretty much exactly Heathcliff's experience with WH mistreating him because of his Backstreet origin and his subsequent lashing out thats attriubted solely to his 'nature' (not to mention his canonical wolf Distortion, and being called the Wolf in the Wildhunt world, and dogs/wolves being a strong association to him in his source), so I'm very curious.
Heathcliff screams dogs/wolves to me more than any one else by a longshot, for the above reasons.
I am so glad you asked, because this is something I've been wanting an excuse to yap about ever since I posted that art!
Big and Will be Bad Wolf is an Abnormality which, while straightforward on the surface, has a lot of interesting nuanced subtleties to it that are the main reason why I assign it the way I do.
The gist of the Abnormality is that it's an initially cute and even kind wolf who is "destined" to become the Big Bad Wolf, becoming the villain of another story, simply because of the way it was born. It was fated to be hungry, unable to fill its stomach enough to feel sated. Fated to be alone, to be hurt as the one who becomes an example and gets punished.
If we were to stop here, then sure, Heathcliff could reasonably fit the themes here. He's forced into being a villain purely because of his birth, forced into a destiny that makes him unfulfilled, dehumanized, and unfairly punished.
However, it's when you get to the subtleties that Heathcliff begins to clash severely with what Big and Will be Bad Wolf is actually about.
First of all, and most notable when you look at the Wolf's flavor text in Ruina, is its complete resignation and acceptance of its role. The Wolf doesn't fight against its destiny, it doesn't try to change, but rather the opposite. It's fully resigned to the fact it will be hurt, be called by no name, and have to hurt others, to the point where it slowly stops caring about anything other than its own hunger.
This is, if you know anything about our Heathcliff, in complete contrast to everything his character stands for. Heathcliff's entire character arc is about him rejecting that very role being forced upon him. He has the resolve to prove that he's just as human and just as worthy of respect as everyone else. And he refuses to stop fighting for that right to be recognised as a person at all cost.
The second nuance I'd like to bring up is one that already has been mentioned here and there, that being the overwhelming hunger the Wolf feels which is what causes it to lash out. Just like the previous theme, it's primarily seen in Ruina, though in this case more so in the Floor Realization for the Floor of Language and how it relates to Roland. The Wolf, similarly to Roland, has a void within it that it cannot fill no matter how much meat it eats, how much violence it commits.
Again, despite all the memes the fandom might make about Heathcliff Black Silence, he's really nothing like Roland in this department at all. In a way, Heathcliff is almost too full, his being so focused on Catherine he has barely any space to be concerned with anything else. Even after her death, he refuses to give up on her, despite how impossible his chances at getting her back may be. There is no void to fill with meaningless violence, but rather a direct purpose to strive towards.
So, that's what I have on why Heathcliff, despite how he may seem fitting for it on the surface, is actually deeply opposed to everything Big and Will be Bad Wolf stands for on a thematic level.
Here's where the fun part begins though. Because if not Heathcliff, then why Hong Lu, right?
See, we already know from the fact that Hong Lu has Rose Hunter E.G.O that he too has a certain role he's destined to fulfill, one that he finds undesireable but also one that he can't truly escape from.
I believe that in the case of Hong Lu, the role of the Wolf would be representing his birth status as a Jia. Think about it. Everything we've seen of the Jias show them as hostile at best and extremely violent and downright villainous at worst. If Hong Lu has any similarities in status to Baoyu, that being that he's a sort of "chosen" Heir to the Family, then that means his role as yet another perpetrator of the Jias' violent ways is all but predestined.
You can even say that Hong Lu has a notable parallel to how Big and Will be Bad Wolf presents itself, that of course being kind and cute on the surface, but repressing a deeply unfulfilled and violent side with what little resolve it may have left.
And speaking of resolve, this is where Hong Lu matches the Wolf much closely than Heathcliff. There is a constant thematic thread of hopelessness and meaninglessness in Hong Lu's character. Even if he might have run away for now, the way he speaks about meeting his Family again makes it clear he doesn't believe it will last. There's a notable resignation and acceptance of the fact that no matter what he does, he will be dragged back to his Family and stripped of the name he gave himself. Born a Jia, always a Jia, you could even say.
Unlike Heathcliff, who constantly fights back to assert his existence as a person who deserves equal respect, Hong Lu simply lies down and takes everything thrown his way. The Wolf is an inherently Slothful figure, a trait which matches Hong Lu far better than Heathcliff.
Hell, Hong Lu even shares a specific sentiment about that with the Wolf. In Ruina, one of the Wolf's possible flavor text quotes is "Thereâs no need to be nice to me⌠Iâm destined to be a big bad wolfâŚ" Doesn't that sound familiar? Doesn't that seem so similar to how Hong Lu expressed that he understood why his Family members wanted to kill him, and thus didn't bother to fight back?
Then, of course, we come back to hunger. And here I have to get a little bit more speculative, but not as much as you would think. See, I believe Hong Lu is much more similar to Roland in this case than Heathcliff. Everything points to the fact that Daiyu is not only dead, but left behind a void in Baoyu/Hong Lu, one that he tries to ignore but one which clearly taunts him into snapping and falling into that "meaningless wrath".
If you're wondering what exactly I mean, I go way more in depth about Hong Lu's repressed anger and how Daiyu's death appears to be what causes it to leak out in this post. However, to summarize how it ties back to Roland and the Wolf, I believe that just like for Roland, the void left behind Daiyu's death is what ends up causing Hong Lu to lash out and will eventually drive him to outright meaningless violence. An attempt to fill one's life with anything after their meaning was taken away from them. Which is exactly what the Wolf reflects through its endless hunger, unable to be satisfied no matter how much it eats and kills.
Honestly, Hong Lu is kind of a sleeper pick for Cobalt Scar with just how much he fits it. I'd almost say it's shocking that I've only seen like one other person similarly assign it to him, but it's really not. Hong Lu is one of those characters that repeatedly gets sanded down due to how he presents himself, with his more worrying and violent tendencies being ignored in favor of falling for his facade. After all, one has to first accept the fact that Hong Lu not only has a capacity for violence, but even the potential to outright enjoy it, to be able to see the reasoning for Cobalt Scar as an E.G.O for him.

No I know you weren't contradicting me, I just realized it's one of those fandom discourse posts that doesn't give any actual example and so everyone who sees it interprets it based on their own present and past circles, so I made mine clearer.
And, related to that, I just wouldn't know what kind of narratives are most common. I don't think you're wrong, it's just more me admitting to not knowing enough to pursue this line of thinking. My job has been having me read a lot of stuff for kids where abusers and victims tend to be better identified as such and the abuser usually gets punished one way or another, because they are stories for kids and want to have a clearer teaching moment for the readers. But it's a matter of perspective, kids books aren't the entire media landscape, you know? It makes sense that other people have another experience of abuse storylines and don't see things the same way.
Anyway, you make good points. Maybe it would be different if canon more often "pulled the rug" from under fandom regarding killing abusers. And there certainly is space I suppose to explore this kind of narratives in interesting ways - what would drive characters to such extremities, what toll could it take on someone to become the killer, is it easier, is it harder... and that's also what I was vaguely reaching for in my original tag, there's genres where killing comes easy to many people (idk, thrillers and police procedurals, dark fantasy or scifi, horror) and it tends to be handwaved as "well its fine because the hero is killing bad guys" but honestly I would like to see it interrogated more in general too. Is killing the abuser worth killing someone? (Babel was doing something great with it for example, balancing the main character on the edge of "grateful to the abuser" and "revolted at the abuser" until the killing happens by accident and forces him to take a stand on it.) All this to say, it can be an interesting way of progressing the situation, if you put in the work.
âthis character should kill their abuserâ i agree. unfortunately they wouldnât do that.

Iâve never actually watched a campaign of critical role live, like I first heard of it at the start of c3, didnât finish campaigns 1 and 2 until episode like 80, and decided to just let c3 finish airing so I could binge. Youâve been in fandom since c2, and I wanted to ask two questions. How does criticism of c3 differ from c2, or even c1? Also, since the fandom has grown and the cast is now much more removed from the fans, do you think if they ever do another long form campaign theyâll try and address some complaints people have had about c3? Or will they just continue to do their own thing? It just feels (to me with no point of comparison) that a lot of people have a lot of valid complaints about c3 and I canât imagine theyâd just ignore all of it, but I could just be naive
Let me answer the ending question first, which is that I do not know how much the cast sees and honestly I wouldn't even blame them for ignoring most commentary during the campaign because I think it's hard to actually run a campaign constantly trying to make the fandom happy. I also have some guesses that the cast has their own doubts that are perhaps less harsh than what many of us have been saying, but are present. Like I can't imagine they missed how rushed the emotional beats of this campaign felt, and how bad this party is at making decisions that feel earned and interesting and don't take them 3 hours, even if they might keep that private. I think the flaws of this campaign are also a bit of a perfect storm, namely, Matt had a very specific plot in mind but ran this campaign with too open a hand, and the cast of characters they played could have used a bit more balance. I mean, I'll admit to being unimpressed by a few of Bells Hells' initial premises compared to other parties, but most actually could have become great if they were in a more character-tailored campaign like the previous two. I think without this goal of creating a big culmination in a hypothetical future campaign, this problem of having ill-suited characters for that type of plot and then pushing development aside in the service of that culmination becomes a nonissue.
Now, fan criticism. This gets tricky, because a lot of criticism, to be blunt, sounds similar on the surface no matter how valid it is. For example, "this ship lacks chemistry and development" is basically a criticism people throw at any ship they dislike. Chemistry is ultimately subjective, or at least impossible to measure in a meaningful way (this is why the But Number Go Up crowd hates when it gets brought up, like, doesn't matter how many fics your ship has if I think the characters are cold fish with each other; I'll never like it) and development is not but requires strong meta to back it up and it's hard to prove a negative.
Shipping aside, though: I think the clincher for me is that people who ended up disliking Campaign 2 any time between the ending of the hiatus or after the finale, were as a rule invested in one very specific outcome: either they quit because their ship didn't happen (including the many, many people who thought Fjord and Jester or Beau and Yasha would break up in the finale, apropos of nothing); in the case of Shadowgast that the ship didn't happen in the way they expected; or they quit because Molly was not resurrected. There was certainly a lot of trepidation going into the finale that not all stories would have a satisfying conclusion (notably Caleb, Yasha, and Fjord, all of whom did get meaningful resolution in the finale) but, at least in my circles, no one was arguing that the Nein as a whole felt robbed and that the campaign did them dirty. You had the weirdass Caduceus stans who failed to understand that his story was precisely what he wanted, or the Caleb Should Have Killed Everyone In The Assembly people, but honestly at least in my recollections a lot of those were secondary to various shipping/Molly complaints and grew out of there as a means to bash the campaign for additional reasons, rather than as a root cause for dissatisfaction themselves. Here, we have people who are ostensibly thrilled with the shipping outcome and the endstate with the gods becoming mortal and who were crowing about that up until the finale announcement at which point they, in their own words, crashed out and suddenly began agreeing with everything this campaign's detractors had said re: lack of character-focused arcs and rushed pacing, and I think that's notable.
I don't feel qualified really to speak about Campaign 1 because I wasn't there, but I think in addition to the violent misogynistic hate which Critical Role obviously did not nor should have listened to and taken as guidance, there was the usual "MY SHIP DIDN'T HAPPEN SO THIS CAMPAIGN IS BAD AND PROBLEMATIC" complaints we saw with Campaign 2.
I guess my point is, getting back to that first paragraph about shipping, you can't go off of the phrasing of criticism; you really do need to take it in context.

in a recent ask game i got a question about something xigbar has done that i cant get over. well. this is my answer.
[Video ID: A cutscene from 358/2 Days for DS, with high-resolution models. Roxas unsummons his keyblade and says, "Mission accomplished. Xigbar looks up and says, "Or is it?" Roxas says "Huh? Oh, come on, quit playing arâ" Xigbar shoves Roxas away, then jumps out of frame to avoid an attack by an off-screen Heartless. Roxas says, "Whoa!" end ID.]
this one moment is so important to how i think about Xigbar's characterization, in this game, in every game, that i feel the need to. write an entire essay about it lmao
The context here is that Roxas is sent to rendezvous with Xigbar in Halloweentown to destroy a giant Heartless. Just before a fight with a distinctly medium-sized Heartless, Roxas says, "Looks giant enough to me!" and Xigbar laughs and says, "Right. Just keep your head on straight." This cutscene immediately follows that.
After the actual boss fight, Roxas is mad that Xigbar let him think the other Heartless was their target, and Xigbar's like "well you learned a valuable lesson, and I did tell you to keep your head on straight." So there's the moral of the story. Roxas nearly got hurt because he jumped to conclusions and let his guard down.
But if that was the point...why did Xigbar shove Roxas out of the way of the attack, evidently narrowly avoiding getting hit himself? If the story of the mission was Roxas learning this lesson, wouldn't it be scarier and more dramatic if he'd gotten hurt? If Xigbar wanted to show Roxas some tough love, wouldnt he have let Roxas get hurt? What is the game trying to communicate about Xigbar in this scene?
It's not that it'd be tonally inappropriate; the game is absolutely willing to have other characters directly hurt Roxas in order to teach him things. In Lexaeus's mission, when he teaches Roxas about Limit Breaks, he seriously hurts Roxas to get his health low enough to use a Limit Break. At the end of that mission, Lexaeus tells Roxas that the only person he can trust is himselfâI think implying that this was another thing he was trying to teach Roxas when he hurt him. Not to mention the several characters who arguably treat Roxas worse. The game doesn't pull its punches when it comes to characters being cruel to him.
It's not like it'd be out of character for Xigbar to stand by and watch, either! Obviously in the broad scope of his character throughout the series, and also in this game specifically. Earlier in the story, he absolutely knows that Axel is going to survive his mission at Castle Oblivionâboth from how he talks about it and from his secret reports. When Roxas assumes Axel is dead, Xigbar reminds him once or twice not to jump to conclusions, but after that, not only does he let Roxas believe that Axel is dead, he makes fun of Roxas for itâhe tells him it doesn't matter if people died, says things are quieter with fewer people around. He's certainly willing to let Roxas get hurt.
I guess you could argue that maybe Xigbar needs Roxas alive for The Plan, either Xehanort's or the MoM's, but...this mission occurs less than a month before Xemnas says that it doesn't matter whether Roxas or Xion lives. Roxas isn't Ventus; he isn't himself a necessary part of the MoM's plan. He's also not Sora, and in fact him dying would probably just wake up Sora sooner. It doesn't seem like there'd be a pragmatic reason for Xigbar to risk his hide to save Roxas's.
So we're just left with this...thing. This one moment where Xigbar puts himself in direct danger to keep Roxas from getting hurt by his own dumbassery, for seemingly no reason. There are other little moments in this game that can be read as sincere attempts at support or encouragement of Roxas or Xion, but a lot of the time he comes across as, like, condescendingly overfamiliar, more annoying than genuinely supportive. There is no other moment that reads this much like an act of altruism and just an act of altruism.
The people who made this game made an intentional choice here. And I think a lot about what the scene might be meant to communicate.
...And then in BbS and 3 he goes back to seeming like a complete fucking jackass. But considering what we learn about Luxu later in the seriesâabout his motivations, what he used to be like, what he's been throughâI don't think this is an isolated out-of-character incident. It's just like...this one short glimpse through a crack in the facade, a hint that there is a lot more depth to him than we realize. What's in there, old man!!
ugghghgh his characterization in this game is so fascinating to me. getting to see him in a completely different context. the only time we see him interact with a teenager who he's allied with outside of Days is in 3. and that also occupies my brain day and night.
another very specific, intentional moment. the camera brings attention to it. what does it mean what does it all mean.....................
anyway. evil little league coach. my mind it swirls and spins.
#anyway anticipate the Days compilation. its my favorite game for him. hes so fucking good.#kh#blakeposts#xigbar scholarship tag#ask games#<-technically#luxu#xigbar

ok so listen. In the grand scheme of things, none of this matters, its just a video game and I shouldn't get this worked up about it. But my god do I need to talk about this.
Like I am not surprised that a white man from north america, who has gone on record to call the qunari "islamic borg" and back pedalled on saying that the dalish are definetly not inspired by indegenous people at all, would say some shit like this.
But its still BAFFLING to me to come out here and say that the group of people who are *taken from their homes as children*, who are abused and raped, who are not allowed outside contact with the world, who cannot hold lands or titles, who can get their identity erased (hello 'anders is not his real name'), who can get their own personality and personhood stripped from them is somehow, a story not about oppression but about gun control. đ¤Ąđ¤Ąđ¤Ą
Don't get me wrong. I think thedas having a prejudice against mages makes for an unique world and interesting storytelling. but what is the goddamn point then, if you refuse to actually engage with what that means.
This is why they couldn't actually fucking adress the goddamn templar and mage war in DAI. Because that would require understanding why the mages are revolting and to do that, you'd have to acknowledge that YES, the chantry IS wrong in how it treats mages and that it needs to change. But I guess that's too fucking radical, and DA does not seem to ever be actually interested in changing the status quo.
Its just INSANE to me because like how can you add something as cruel as the rite of tranquility. something as cruel as the stories of mages being dragged away from their homes, and not think its about opression. to be SURPRISED, even, that most people would disagree that mages are dangerous. Because to me, the mages being at risk of posession was always a lame excuse, considering that heightened emotions seem to attract more demons and guess what? being constantly abused would definetly heighten certain emotions ( PROPS to dorian in that one VG ocdex entry for poiting that out).
How are we NOT supposed to think its about opression when you have examples, IN THEDAS, of mages who live outside of the chantry and who aren't dangerous? Hello, seers of Rivain? The Avvar? Tevinter is filled with mages and you don't hear stories of 'random mage gets posessed and kills 70 people'.
Its just baffling to me that it feels so much of what I find interesting in regards to this whole mage thing is apparently unintentional or intentional in the WORST way possible. For example, I was thinking about how mages are very dehumanized within andrastian socities, to the point where they are treated like they're not even citizens of that nation. I felt that when Meredith talks about "protecting the people of kirkwall" and my first thought was well, the mages are also citizens of kirkwall so how is that fair. Another point is the fact that mass murdering mages is fucking a-ok. In ANY other situation, killing a bunch of people would be wrong, but because mages are seen as not-human (and i say human in the sense of person), its fine to kill all of them.
And now I'm thinking that yeah all of this is happening bc the fucking writers themselves also don't see the mages as people.
This is why the topic of blood magic keeps running in circles. Because the writing is on the wall: so many blood mages that we meet in the games turned to blood magic as way to fight back against the templars. They're doing it OUT OF DESPERATION. Even fucking Anders can point out as such, when you're looking for grace he says "They raised the bloody dead. they must be desperate" because guess fucking what.
It doesn't matter how powerful mages are. It doesn't matter that they can lit things on fire with a snap of their fingers and this or that. Because even with all this power, THEY ARE STLLL NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO FIGHT AGAINST GOD KNOWS HOW MANY TEMPLARS. WE GET TOLD THAT REPETEDLY; Wynne tells us the mages won't survive the right of annulment, Orsino says the thing. Its almost like, if you have a heavily militarized group that has the ability to cancel out the magic, SUDDENLY they are actually stronger than the fucking mages.
like david, you wanna take a fucking wild guess as to why people don't see the mages as dangerous as you put? BECAUSE YOU MADE THEM OPRESSED. YOU DID, EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T MEAN TO. HOW CAN YOU BE SO FUCKING BLIND TO THE OWN SHIT YOU WRITE.
its just....gah. I shouldn't be worked up about something from 2020 but its just so. incredibly. baffling.
I FOUND IT. I FOUND THE FUCKING THING I WAS LOOKING FOR.
THIS. MAKES ME. SO. FUCKING. MAD.

Intersectionality is something that, sadly, is often pushed to the side in Arcane discussions, specifically from a certain side of that fandom. They will go on and on about Viktor, as they usually do, talking about how he suffers from classicism and ableism within the show and fandom respectively (as they should as these are issues, but there is a catch when it comes to these fans as well), but when others in the fandom, especially Mel or even Sky fans, point out the racism and misogyny (misogynoir) that is often rampant in this fandom, particularly from said fans mentioned prior, all of a sudden its not possible or being overdramatized. Like they suddenly can't understand how some of their rhetoric includes or invites the same thing black fans have been calling out since the beginning, because how can you discuss the ableism and such that Viktor faces, but laugh or joke around with people who call Mel slurs or just denounce her to a trope? I thought you were for calling out forms of hate within fandom, or does your "activism" only stretch so far? And back to a previous statement, about the catch regarding those particularly fans----some of them regurgitate the same harmful rhetoric towards Viktor that they say they supposedly hate, just in mode subtle ways. How are you going to say you hate when Viktor is infantilized, but will be quick to forget he's a grown man who can defend himself (often when trying to pair him against Mel, framing her as the aggressor, and sometimes even Jayce too but to a lesser degree)? Not saying Jayce doesn't get equal amounts of hate, but his more so gets pushed aside along with his character to ultimately frame Viktor in higher regard, often making him ooc. It's like they pick and choose when the issues are prevalent, and when they aren't, and it's so frustrating.
#and it's so annoying to see as someone who for actually doesn't mind/kind of likes viktor as a character bc whenever i try to interact more#with him in fandom these types of fans make it so hard bc they overwhelm you with things that are so out of character that they practically#rewrite arcane to where viktor becomes overt stereotypes and looses what made him interesting to begin with#like you can hardly find analysis on his character at the end of s2 and how that is ACTUALLY SAD without getting the 3rd degree or see#j*yviks paint it as romantic#and it's very gross how they often frame viktor in this way to frame poc characters (like mel or jayce) as aggressors while ignoring how#everyone in arcane is flawed (including viktor) to different degrees and how characters can disagree without actually hating one another#(this is especially prevalent regarding melvik where people act like it can't happen bc mel âlooked at viktor wrongâ#but will be the same people to ship jayvik even though jayce was classicst as well....noticing)#but it's very weird how they only always talk about mel in regards to how she is around viktor & nothing else but complain about how mel#fans don't understand her---which is bs bc you'd be hard pressed to find many mel fans who don't write 1k thesis on her#heck some even say that the council bombing was justified even with mel being there!#and if they really want to go into detail about how mel's class and inaction impacts zaun fine go ahead but why stay silent#when people point out how she eventually changed and strived to help them or how viktor ended up causing more harm than good down the line?#like these could be great narrative stories for how one character starts with wanting to help those in need but becomes corrupted by his#own ambition and ends up becoming a bigger threat than what he and others like him suffered with before#but no it's easy for them to paint mel = bad and viktor = smol who can do no wrong#arcane#anti arcane fandom#arcane viktor#arcane mel#mel medarda#fandom criticism#fandom racism#fandom misogyny#also bc you can tell these people are on some bs bc they'll rave about how mel didn't care about zaun (which is untrue) but turn around and#say âbut jayce-â like he wasn't causing zaun trouble as well#like im all for being critical about mel's complacency about zaun and all but don't act like jayce is any better#matter of fact why even try to do that? what purpose did it serve when there's literally proof against your point? hmm

Amy Dunne Character Analysis
Disclaimer
This analysis will be of Amyâs character from both the book and the movie, although the 2014 movie adaption takes greater precedence with only some additional details and quotes included from the book as it does delve deeper into Amyâs psyche and add further characterization. Thus some traits may be accentuated further than they are in the movie, not being completely faithful to either story. Itâs an analysis of Amy in her totality across mediums, of course being entirely my opinion. There are of course adaptational differences but I will not include the major ones from the books (ex. her relationship with Hillary Hand). This is an analysis focusing primarily on Amyâs neuroses she demonstrates and the childhood links to them, it doesnât cover in-depth the events nor themes of Gone Girl.
Amy Elliott Dunne, the ever enigmatic dual protagonist- antagonist of Gone Girl is one of the most iconic female villains in modern memory, and one of the paragons of the âgood for herâ trope in media, is, frankly, one of my favorite characters of all time. As such I have been dying to write a full analysis examining her neuroses and characterization. Beneath the cultural perception of just another âcrazy psychoâ for girls to claim âshe did no wrongâ or âshe just like me fr!â, lies a fascinating character who is masterfully written and developed by Gillian Flynn, as well as perfectly portrayed by Rosamund Pike. Amy Dunne is a character with a deep, complex psychology that I will do my best to thoroughly explore in this analysis.
From Amyâs childhood we first see the emergence of a literal high ego ideal, Amazing Amy. Of course this is the childrenâs book series created by her parents with a fictionalized version of Amy being the eponymous protagonist. This was a version of herself that rectified her own personal failures. Amazing Amy became a prodigy at cello, when Amy quit at 10, Amazing Amy made varsity volleyball, Amy got cut freshman year. Even in the (at time) final book in the series, Amazing Amy got married, a task Amy had not yet done. The entire book series revolved around Amy always making the most virtuous, the most selfless, the most perfect decisions.
>âWith me, regular, flawed, real Amy, jealous, as always, of the golden child.â
An interesting detail in the book that is omitted from the movie is Marybethâs numerous miscarriages and stillbirths (which totaled 7). All of these girls were named Hope, until Amy was born. Amy expresses her jealousy towards them, as they were always seen as perfect without ever living; meanwhile Amy herself has to live life everyday knowing that she will never truly live up to the Hopes. That she has to try everyday to be the best she can be. Her very birth was mired in the expectation of a perfect child; given that she was practically a gift from the heavens to her parents.
This sets up Amyâs perfectionism, as the childhood experience of never living up to a projected ideal led her to want to be perfect (and as weâll later see, the expectation that everyone else is too), to live life always through the gaze of another. Evidently this leads to a loss of oneâs inner essence, oneâs individuality and sense of self.
>â-Iâd never really felt like a person, because I was always a productâ (Book Quote)
Amyâs obsession with personas can be seen as emerging from this, as she adapts a personality depending on who sheâs interacting with, as to always be the most appealing she can, she is Amazing Amy after all.
>âIâm not sure, exactly, how to be Dead Amy. Iâm trying to figure out what that means for me, what I become for the next few months. Anyone, I suppose, except people Iâve already been: Amazing Amy. Preppy â80s Girl. Ultimate-Frisbee Granola and Blushing Ingenue and Witty Hepburnian Sophisticate. Brainy Ironic Girl and Boho Babe (the latest version of Frisbee Granola). Cool Girl and Loved Wife and Unloved Wife and Vengeful Scorned Wife. Diary Amy.â (Book Quote)
This general attitude leads to people trying to impress her as she places herself as someone special and especially someone to keep around. She entices both the characters and viewers of the film through her manufactured charisma and enchantment. However, weâll see this dramatically backfire in her relationship with Nick, just you wait!
For now we can focus on the beginning of their relationship as well as what I believe to be Amyâs view on romance.
I believe that Amy has an impossibly high standard of love, one that stems from her perfectionism and general inability to let down her guise of being amazing. Not to mention how her parents were a perfect match, Amy even referring to them as soul-mates.
>âThey have no harsh edges with each other, no spiny conflicts, they ride through life like conjoined jellyfishâexpanding and contracting instinctively, filling each otherâs spaces liquidly. Making it look easy, the soul-mate thing.â (Book Quote)
In her childhood itâs implied that she was into romance novels, specifically Jane Austenâs Pride and Prejudice, which obviously contributes to the idealization of romance, of a literal scripted love.
>âYou were an alienated teen and only Elizabeth Bennet understood youâ
I think this little quote is incredibly indicative; it establishes a sense of alienation, of Amy never quite fitting in and blending with others.
>âSo many lessons and opportunities and advantages, and they never taught me how to be happy. I remember always being baffled by other children. I would be at a birthday party and watch the other kids giggling and making faces, and I would try to do that too, but I wouldnât understand why. I would sit there with the tight elastic thread of the birthday hat parting the pudge of my underchin, with the grainy frosting of the cake bluing my teeth, and I would try to figure out why it was fun.â (Book Quote)
Back to the topic of romance, through these stories it allowed her to imagine her perfect romance: if Amy could find that one person that truly understood her, beyond the illusion, that then would constitute a perfect union of love. She does deep down (whether consciously or not) want to be loved for who she is; not the idealized, palatable, literal marketed version of herself. Thus she holds trust as a premium, expecting that if she does the Herculean task of unspooling and revealing herself to another, that the other person would love her no matter what.
>âCan you imagine, finally showing your true self to your spouse, your soul mate, and having him not like you?â (Book Quote)
However all of this culminates in an impossibly high standard of a lover, of a practically divine mythical love; where one loves totally and absolutely. Of course where this neurosis is most demonstrated is in Nick and Amyâs relationship.
Amy comments that after meeting Nick she finally felt like a person as he brought out a side of herself that hadnât been seen, in her own words âa lightness and an easeâ, something that Amy enjoyed. In her eyes they had the perfect relationship in the beginning, Nick was her compliment with the witty banter, with their inside jokes, and charm.
However this doesnât just vanquish her childhood neuroses, through her desire to be seen as perfect, she modifies herself to be a âcool girlâ for Nick, complying endlessly to standards to maintain this perception.
>â When I met Nick Dunne, I knew he wanted a cool girl and for him, Iâll admit, I was willing to try.â
Amy essentially became Nickâs image of a perfect girl, witty, fun, and most of all easy-going and forgiving.
Yet one cannot live forever in images and ideas; and as such, the real, true Amy emerged. The Amy that cares too much, thatâs hard to get along with, that is a controlling perfectionist. She also tests Nick through the treasure hunts, weaving in little details about their relationship as to challenge Nick and hope that he remembers the things they do together as deeply as she does. Combined with the 2008 recession and declining health of Nickâs mother (the consequences of which will be explored later). As well as Nickâs growing dissatisfaction in the relationship (evidenced by his worsening performances in the treasure hunts, the cheating, using her for sex and ignoring her otherwise, etc). The illusion both Nick and Amy were living in crumbled; they couldnât possibly sustain their relationship as they were both striving to fulfill reciprocating images for the other.
One of the biggest parts of her character is Amyâs elitism and entitlement, in which she thinks of herself as someone superior, someone that deserves to be loved absolutely for who she is, although only to people she considers worthy.
>âSheâs easy to like. Iâve never understood why thatâs considered a complimentâthat just anyone could like you.â (Book Quote)
Once again this stems from her childhood, in a seemingly contradictory way, she also sees herself as special for being the one that survived from her motherâs attempts, as well as the fact that her birth was so tumultuous that she would be an only child. From this also stems her entitlement for love.
Amy actively looks down upon women she considers âaverageâ, whom she sees as coming from mediocrity and continuously perpetuating that in their lives. She scoffs at them with her wealthy parents and NYC background until her marriage with Nick crumbles. Only then does she realize that sheâs become the very woman she would previously disdain. A woman with a failing marriage, the loss of her previous wealth following the recession, and moving to a failed development in Missouri (What the hellâs in Missouri?) for Nickâs mother.
I truly believe this, combined with Nickâs infidelity, and most importantly the loss of her idyllic love culminated in the iconic Gone Girl plan.
>âNick took and took from me until I no longer existed, thatâs murder. Let the punishment fit the crimeâ.
Nick took Amyâs identity, her sense of self that she so generously revealed to him and rejected her. Implying that she would only be loved if played the role of the âcool girlâ; stripping her of who she really was, losing herself in yet another persona. Although Amy admits she doesnât really have a personality and lives through personas, she still has a semblance of self that she holds dear.
>â-made me realize that there was a Real Amy in there, and she was so much better, more interesting and complicated and challenging, than Cool Amyâ. (Book Quote)
Worse yet, Nick had cheated on her with a ânewer, younger, bouncer Cool Girlâ, leaving Amy in the dust, surely damaging her pride.
But Amy truly fell in love with her idealized version of Nick, believing that she was responsible for shaping that version of Nick. That she deserved that man in his entirety, of course what gets Amy to come back to Nick is the Sharon Scheiber interview, in which he promises to make up with Amy in just the way that makes her think that Nick is the one person who gets her. He makes the little references to their inside jokes (2 fingers on the chin when theyâre not bullshitting the other) and a reference to the end of the treasure hunt (always a contentious issue in their relationship). Sheâs reminded of who he was, that he was once perfect for her, who else could know how to appeal to her heart in just the right way? With the same passion and conviction she reverses the judgment on Nick, clawing her way back to him. She does so in an especially brutal manner, slashing Desiâs throat with a boxcutter right after he climaxes. Putting aside my enormous personal bias against Desi, he was technically an innocent man, taking a great risk in sheltering Amy. However itâs clear that Amy sees him as merely an asset and something to be disposed of once he serves his value, as another prop in her ever evolving masterplan; she did string him along for years through their letter correspondences. He was just another casualty in Amyâs search for idyllic love. She comes back dramatically, literally falling into Nickâs arms while still covered in Desiâs blood like a dress; fabricating an elaborate story about a love obsessed former boyfriend kidnapping and violating her. Despite the glaring holes in her whole story (If Amyâs marriage was as bad as she made it out to be, why did she go back to Nick so easily? How did she get access to a knife and kill him so seamlessly? Why didnât Amy do anything when she discovered the stuff in Margoâs shed? etc), law enforcement, media, and the public all fully believe it, infatuated with the persona and narrative that Amyâs created for herself. In the end she traps Nick into the marriage and eventually, the family. The last shot of the film is a haunting recall to the beginning shot of the film, as Amy has both revealed and secured herself to be the master of the narrative, finally obtaining her perfect love, no matter what the cost may have been.
Conclusion
Through a constant demand in Amyâs childhood emerges a need for perfection, simultaneously bringing about a sense of superiority and entitlement. The use of personas and façades facilitate this, painting Amy as the most amazing cool girl for whomever sheâs performing for, to feed her need to be seen as perfect and desirable. Yet there emerges a psychological detachment from others; as the need to perform inevitably leads to an internal hollowness. However underneath all these layers there also lies the true Amy who has the deep unconscious desire of wanting to be loved absolutely, to have a perfect union of love where she can reveal herself fully and be loved for who she is truly.
>disclaimer for tumblr lol, this is not me trying to claim Amy was innocent I am fully aware that sheâs a terribly entitled and narcissistic person but she can still be complex and have relatable desires & be a person even if sheâs massively fucked up!!
#amy dunne#gone girl#gillian flynn#I love Amy Dunne so much#my little meow meow#analysis#character analysis#final draft of the analysis me thinks!!#unless I rewrite the conclusion which is very likely :P#I want to write one comparing the book to the movie#and speak on those said adaptional differences#my gone girl brainrot is terminal#(no I never referenced her typology in this whattttttâŚ..)#this doesnât have much commentary into real life stuff (I am e5 ni base I canât speak on such matters)#this is just a -why Amy is fucked up and the way she is- analysis#Also I donât care if Amy isnât actually that much of a she just like me fr character. Iâve said it okay and Iâm a teenage girl (checkmate)#also b4 anyone comes for me & is like Amy literally says she doesn't believe in unconditional love#so then y would she crave it/doesn't that disprove ur point#well 1. she's unreliable as FUCK 2. note my use of unconscious!!#also fun fact. in one of the first drafts of the novel#her parents were (quote unquote) relationship experts that focused the idea of a perfect couple (another quote unquote)#& wrote a book called the undivided child: how to raise a perfectly whole being#which is just. lmao#the excerpts from that early draft r so fascinating

Sorry, had to reply to this.
Multiple trans Swifties would completely disagree with you. I can't tell you how many TikToks I've seen where they take Taylor to task for not speaking up about all the anti-trans legislation going through many US states bent on hurting them.
Not to mention the Executive Orders now signed that specifically target trans people. One would think with how much she hates Trump that she would at least say something about that.
But no. Not a single word. Almost as if that paragraph wasn't as specific as you claim.
I mean, points for creativity, but this is yet another failed attempt to make the Vogue article say something ot actually doesn't.
And even if Taylor said one day that she's straight, some Gaylors would still say she was being forced to say that, so it wouldn't matter if she spelled it out like that. People who desperately want to believe she's queer will still find a way to say that she is in the face of such a statement.
The misinterpretation of the vogue article
Hetlors and Swifties claim this article is her saying sheâs straight which is interesting because she never actually says that. Hereâs what this statement and article actually means in the most simplest sense. Itâs time for a little debunk.
She talks about advocating for a specific part of the lgbtq community and how she didnât realise it until recently that she could.
This was In 2019 but go back a couple years which I remember during the 1989 maybe even earlier she advocated for LGBTQ people on multiple occasions. See examples below
So itâs definitely not the first occasion of her advocating so why did she say in 2019 she only realised she could recently?
Because she has advocated for bi, queer, lesbian and gay people in the past but never for trans, drag and gender queer people.
During the lover era she advocated for this specific part of the queer community heavily which she has never done.
She only realised now (2019) she could advocate for this part of the community which as a woman she isnât apart of. She never denies being queer in some way herself but rather states I can advocate for others in this community aside from what and how I identify myself as. Or who I have only advocated for in the past.
So when Hetlors use this as a anti-Gaylor Claim they completely miss the point of this article and statement, the evidence is there itâs clear she never denies sheâs queer and never asserts herself as straight. Hope this clears up the misunderstandings.

terfs when a study shows literally anything positive about trans people/transitioning: 'hm i think this requires some fact-checking. Were those researchers REALLY unbiased? Because if they were biased this doesn't count and if they weren't knowingly biased they probably were unconsciously biased, woke media affects so much these days. Have there been any other studies on this? Because if there haven't been this could be an outlier and if there have been and they all agree that's a bit odd, why aren't there any outliers, and if there have been and any disagree we really won't know the truth until we very thoroughly analyze them all, will we? Were there enough subjects for a good sample size? Did every single subject involved stay involved through the whole study because if they didn't we should be sure nothing shady was going on resulting in people dropping out. Are we 110% sure all the subjects were fully honest and at no point were embarrassed or afraid to admit they didn't love transitioning to the people in charge of their transition? Are we 110% sure none of the subjects were manipulated into thinking they were happy with their transition? In fact we should double-check what they think with their parents, because if the subjects and their parents disagree it's probably because they've been manipulated but their cis parents have not and are very unbiased. How many autistic subjects were there because if there weren't enough then this doesn't really study the overlap between autistic and trans and if there were too many then we just don't know enough about what causes that overlap to be sure this study really explains being trans and isn't just about being autistic. How many AFAB subjects were there because if there weren't enough this is just another example of prioritizing AMAB people and ignoring the different struggles of girls and women and if there were too many how do we know sexism didn't affect the results. Was the study double-blinded? We all know double-blinded is the most reliable so if this one wasn't that's a point against it even if the thesis literally physically could not be double-blinded. Look i'm not being transphobic, i want what's best for trans people! Really! But as a person who is not trans and therefore objective in a way they cannot possibly be, i just think we should only take into account Good Science here. You want to be following science and not being manipulated or experimented upon by something unscientific, right?'
terfs when they see a study of 45 subjects so old it predates modern criteria for gender dysphoria and basically uses 'idk her parents think she's too butch', run by a guy who practiced conversion therapy, 'confirmed' by a guy who treated the significant portion of subjects who didn't follow up as all desisting, definitely in the category of 'physically cannot double-blind this', completely contradicted by multiple other studies done on actual transgender subjects, but can be kinda cited as evidence against transitioning if you ignore everything else about it: 'oOOH SEE THIS IS WHAT WE'RE TALKIN BOUT. SCIENCE. Just good ol' unbiased thorough analysis. I see absolutely no reason to dig any deeper on this and if you think it's wrong you're the one being unscientific. It's really a shame you've been so thoroughly brainwashed by the trans agenda and can't even accept science when you see it. Maybe now that someone has finally uncovered this long-lost study from 1985, we can make some actual progress on the whole trans problem.'

Hi!! If you're up to it do you think you could write something about the first time Jason brings his gf to the manor. Like maybe he brings her in but doesn't tell anyone and so everyone is trying to sneak a glimpse of her??
meet the family
jason todd x fem!reader
aka jason has a girlfriend???
warnings: none
The manor sits full as everâa cloud of mild boredom sweeping over the Wayne clan.
Dick sits perched on top of an armchair reading a catalog, Stephanieâs splayed out across the couch, Cass is bundled up in blankets atop the ottoman, and Damian leans up against the center table from the floor.
Itâs a relatively slow afternoon, until Tim comes bursting into the room, out of breath.
âThereâs a girl here!â
Everybody looks at him, disinterest scattered across the room. âThereâs a couple of âem.â Dick says, flipping through the pages of the magazine.
Tim huffs, âNo! In Jasonâs roomâhe has a girl in there!â Eyebrows shoot up at that.
âNow I know youâre lying.â Damian mutters.
Tims head snaps over to Damian. âDude, go see for yourself. I heard her!â
âYou really think Jason would bring a girl here and not even introduce us?â Steph asks, unconvinced.
âYeah.â
âYes.â
âObviously.â
Cassandra nods fervently.
âOkay, yeah. Maybe.â Stephanie mutters. âI bet heâll introduce me before any of you guys, though.â
Dick barks out a laugh, âYouâre nothing short of delusional if you think heâs introducing any of us.â
âWeâll have to take matters into our own hands, then.â Tim says, decidedly.
Damian audibly sighs and rolls his eyes.
âIâm meeting her first.â Steph confirms. âIâll put money down right now.â
âMeet her or see her?â Cass signs.
âSame thing.â Stephanie shrugs.
Dick shoots up from his seat, âFirst person to see her gets to be the ring bearer!â He announces, racing out of the room.
Knock knock knock knock knockâŚ
Knock knock.
It takes a good forty seconds, but Jason opens the door, an annoyed frown already on his face.
Dick gives him his brightest smile. It beams of deceit in Jason's eyes. âHey man. Whatâcha doing?â
He crosses his arms. âWhat do you want?â
Dick tries to peer around Jason into the room, but Jason made a point of barely opening the door and his large frame isnât doing Dick any favors right now.
âJust wanted to say heyâŚYou wanna hang out?â
âNo.â
Dick lingers awkwardly. ââŚAre you sure?â
Jason shuts the door.
A couple minutes later, Tim comes running up the stairs. He opts to skip over the courtesy of knocking and go straight for barging through the door himself. Or he wouldâve, if Jason hadnât seen that coming from a mile away and locked it.
âFuck off, Tim!â Jason calls from inside the room.
âYou lost your right to privacy the second you walked in this house!â He shouts back, hitting his fist against the door.
And Tim swears he can hear a sweet laugh as he trudges away. The authenticity of that claim will be heavily debated downstairs for the next several minutes.
Not even a thirty seconds later, Stephanie comes a knockinâ. Jason opens the door wordlessly, patience clearly dissipating more and more.
âHey, Jason! I canât find my comm, you wouldnât happen to have it, would you?â
His face deadpans. âNo, Steph.â
Stephanie clicks her tongue, âCan you check?â
He stares at her.
âActually youâre right, it would be faster if I did.â Stephanie tries to push past him into the room, but Jason, unsurprisingly, doesnât budge.
âStephanie.â
âI just want to meet her!â She pleads. âI wonât even tell the others, Iâll just say you wouldnât let me in either!â
âBye.â He closes the door.
He doesnât make it all the way back to the bed before the next knock, singular and short.
Jason snaps the door open again, looking down at Damian with a glare.
Never one to waste any time, âIs there a girl in here?â Damian asks, seeming thoroughly disinterested in the answer.
Jason shuts the door in his face.
Several minutes later, another, quieter knock. Jasonâs groan can be heard from outside the room. He pulls open the door once again.
Itâs Cass.
She stares at him.
He stares at her.
âCan I say hi to her?â She signs.
Jason sighs. âIâll pass along the message.â
She smiles and turns back down the hall.
Jason closes and locks the door once again, trudging back over to the bed where you lay. He collapses onto your chest, your arms wrapping around each others bodies immediately.
âCass says hi.â He mumbles, the sound obscured by his face-down position.
âThat message would be a lot more meaningful if I actually knew Cass.â
He groans. âYou donât want to meet them.â
âI do.â You say, running your fingers through his hair. âAnd I think you do too, or you wouldnât have brought me to the house where the world's best detectives live.â
âIâm starting to regret it now.â
âCome on. Please?â You plead.
He picks his head up to look at you.
âAre you sure?â He asks with a grimace.
âAbsolutely.â You say, topping it off with a kiss on his cheek.
He sighs.
Well. Itâs never been within Jasonâs skill set to deny you, anyways.
You descend the stairs hand in hand with Jason, his energy mopier than usual. You can hear a gaggle of voices coming from a room ahead, all talking over one another.
âOkay, Tim, you climb up outside the window andââ
ââItâs your plan, you scale the side of the house.â
Jason drops his head and mutters a âJesus ChristâŚâ as you near the commotion.
You give him a reassuring smile and pat his back as you both move into the doorway.
Everyoneâs heads snap to the doorway, eyes wide and waiting.
Jason takes a deep breath like heâs steeling himself for torture. âGuysâŚThis is my girlfriend.â
âHi.â You smile sweetly, waving to the room.
Thereâs a moment of still silence before the room erupts.
âHold onââ
ââmy god, sheâs so pretty!â
âOh wowââ
âWait, what?â
ââYouâre real?â
ââdidnât place that bet.â
Stephanie comes scurrying up to you and grabs both of your hands in hers. âHi, Iâm Steph!â She says with a beaming smile. âWhatâs your name?â
âIâmââ
But the others are right on her tail, crowding around you.
âWe didnât even know Jason had a girlfriend.â Tim says.
âStill not convinced.â Damian mumbles from the back.
Cass waves and signs something to you.
âShe says weâre really happy to meet you, which we are.â Dick tells you.
Damian moves closer within the huddle and inspects you closely. You have no idea what heâs inspecting you for. You donât need to dwell on it for long because Jason pushes his head away from you with mild force making Damian scowl.
Stephanie chimes in, âDid he bring you here to meet us? The others saidââ
Jason cuts her off, already knowing exactly where that sentence was going. âI brought her here to show her my old room.â
Dick snickers, âOh, is that what you were off doing?â
âWatch it.â Your boyfriend warns.
You nudge him with your elbow, be nice.
Tim moves closer to you, narrowing his eyes. âSo youâve like, spent time with him and everything? And you still want to be around him?â
âOkay and youâre done.â Jason takes your hand and leads you out of the room and back down the hallway.
âNo wait!â
Youâre already out of the room and into another and then another before you can even realize that youâre headed for the front door.
You stop in your tracks, pulling him to a halt as well. âWhat aboutââ
Jason shakes his head. âYou donât want to meet him.â
You lower your chin at him, âJay. Do you want me to meet him?â
Heâs silent and doesnât look like he particularly does.
You sigh, âOkay, do you want him to meet me?â
âIâyeahâŚâ he trails, and you give him your best sweet eyes, the ones that he knows he has no business saying no to. âIâŚokay. Okay.â
He leads you down another hallway, the sounds of his siblings clambering echoing in the distance. You end up in a room that looks like a never used study, where Jason pushes on one of the walls. It slides open with a bit of force from him, revealing a door with a keypad next to it.
He types a series of numbers into it, and opens it up to a narrow passageway that looks remarkably like a cave.
The passageway leads down to a set of stairs, and you can hear the loud sound of water in the distance.
Youâre quite nervous about walking into the Batcave, but you know Jason wouldnât bring you anywhere near it unless he was sure it would be okay. Okay for you that is, more so than his father.
âCareful. Itâs slippery.â Jason holds your hand the whole way down anyway, making sure to linger no more than a step and a half in front of you.
You see Bruce Wayne, sitting at a desk with a large array of computer screens in front of it, and case files scattered all throughout the surface.
He doesnât acknowledge your entrance, though you have to imagine if Jason got his observation skills from anywhere, it would be him.
As you approach, Jason switches your hands so that his left is holding your left. The result has his figure half covering you, you can only assume partially limiting Bruceâs view of you.
âBruce.â
Bruce turns his chair around, regarding Jason with a raised chin. The greeting is somehow even more formal than youâd expected.
âJason.â He readdresses his gaze to you. âWhoâs this?â
Jason has a hell of a feeling that Bruce already knows exactly who you are. Heâs probably known about you since you started dating. He wouldâve had to, to not be pissed as hell that Jason brought a civilian into the cave.
Jason introduces you, his hand reluctantly letting go as you step forward to shake Bruceâs.
Bruce looks surprised, though pleasantly so. He smiles and shakes it kindly.
âItâs nice to finally meet you.â He says.
âYou too, Iâve heard a lot about you.â You say, smiling.
He laughs, âOh, I bet.â Looking to Jason, he says, âI canât say Iâve had the same pleasure, unfortunately.â
Though Jasonâs behind you now, you can practically feel him roll his eyes.
âNo, I canât imagine him sharing anything unprovoked.â Bruce smiles widely at that.
He opens his mouth to say something else, but Jason, whoâs probably on the brink of losing his mind down here, interrupts.
âAlright. Time to go.â Jason says, grabbing your hand again. He doesnât give you much time to protest before heâs guiding you by the waist past him and towards the stairs.
You let him nudge you out and call over your shoulder, âIt was nice meeting you!â
Heâs halfway up the stairs as you exit, only to be stopped by Bruce addressing him again.
âJason.â
Jason stalls his steps, turning around slowly. Youâre out of the cave now, and Jasonâs not excited to be alone with his Dad for even a minute. It doesnât help that he has no idea what heâll say.
âSheâs kind.â Bruce says, simply.
âYes.â
He tilts his head at Jason, observing him. âYou love her?â
Jason looks at the ground. âYes.â
Bruce nods. âGood.â
He returns to his work at the computers wordlessly, and Jason has to take a moment to realign himself before he climbs the rest of the stairs.
Jason doesnât particularly seek his fathers approval, nor does he place any definable value on it. However, hearing him give his own version of his blessing to you struck something inside Jason. Something deep in his chest.
He re-enters the study, finding it empty. He walks out into the hallway, where youâre nowhere to be found. Despite being halfway across the house by this point, he can distinctly hear his siblings chattering in the living room. Chattering. And chattering. And chatteringâŚ
Oh god, you went back to the living room.
As Jason approaches the conversation becomes clearer.
ââlong have you been together, anyways?â
âWellââ
Stephanie gasps suddenly, cutting you off. âOh wait, you have to meet Alfred!â
âOh, weâve already met.â You tell her.
Dickâs head snaps up. âWhat? When?â
Jason enters the room, draping his arm around your shoulder. âAbout six months before you met her.â
A chorus of gasps and shouts ring out.
âWhat?â

Getting jealous (AGAIN) as Sevika's girlfriend...
you just can't catch a break, huh? your fault for falling in love with this absolute lady-killer
ŕźŕźŕź
ŕźŕźŕź
a/n: ever since i remembered i have free will and can post all my sevika goblin thoughts i have been cooking entire posts up in like under an hour, somebody please help me LMAO
i had too many ideas for the jealous!reader, so here's another. i picture this as being my pit fighter!reader characterization, so do with that what you will :33
it isn't that you hate absolutely anybody looking at Sevika at all
like, you get it. and a part of you loves that everyone else can see just as clearly as you how absolutely captivating she is.
BUT IT GETS TO A POINT-
After the incident with the girl at the bar, Sevika does her best to make sure that you don't feel neglected in public. She slips, of course she does, but she does try like hell
It typically goes that anybody who approaches her, flat out doesn't acknowledge you. it's a by-product of how she's so non-PDA that it slips the mind of these thirsty women that she's even in a relationship
You, being a practical and results-driven individual, remedy this by being a little bolder in public every now and then
Nowadays, Sevika doesn't usually object. She understands why you're doing it now, and she's getting tired of the would-be homewreckers coming onto her too lol
You'll cup her cheek, give her a firm but quick kiss whenever you bring a drink over to her while she's in a game of cards. Come up beside her at the bar and rest your hand on her hip for a while (she fucking loves this one, she won't tell you though)
From then on, people start to get the message. If anybody's heartbroken over it, they become less inclined to showing it
So, you almost want to believe you're imagining things when you clock someone from across the bar who seems to keep giving you the stink eye
you're not dumb
you can see the way she's gesturing between you and Sevika to her friends, shaking her head in disgust. now that's a new one...
Sevika has her human arm over your shoulder while this is happening, the other holding onto her hand of cards. She looks over at you when you pluck the cigarillo out from her fingers and take a drag of your own in distress. She's deeply amused by this
"Okay, baby?" "Mhm. Peachy." You were not peachy. The hell did you do to deserve that look?
For a second Sevika thinks you're mad at her, frowning and angling her body towards you (she notices Ran trying to sneak a look at her cards as she does, and bucks playfully at them). Her eyes flick up to follow your line of vision, and then she understands
She chuckles under her breath.
"You could take her in a fight, princess."
oh, and don't you know it. You shake away the thought though, not wanting to escalate the situation in your head in the case that it's actually not at all what you think it is, and then you look stupid
You ask Sevika if she wants another whiskey and she declines, so you get up to just get yours. You're minding your business by the bar, trying to not grace that table with any more glances when that bites you in the ass as a shoulder checks yours
of course, it's the girl. I guess it wasn't in your head
You make eye contact with her when she looks over her shoulder at you and scoffs, shaking her head. You don't look away even as the bartender slides your drink into your hand
now, you have some options here. most of them include violence to some degree. you're contemplating them all as you're walking back to Sevika, eyes straight ahead
then you catch a few choice words from her table; something, something, "-can she fight..." you don't hear the rest, but does it really matter?
you stop in your tracks. you glance up at your girlfriend who didn't see what happened earlier but is watching you now, brow raised and mouthing what's wrong?
at this point, i don't think this even counts as jealousy, you're just defending your woman's honor
you give her a shake of your head that says don't worry (and now she's definitely worrying), and turn on your heel and make a beeline for the bitch's table
Sevika is about to get up to back you up- for whatever the situation may be- when she sees your posture as you stand over the girl from earlier.
Ran stops her though, grinning from ear to ear. "Let your girl have this, Sev. I wanna see her beat ass." Sevika scoffs, but tentatively sits back down. She trusts your judgement. Whatever your call is-
oh, you're smashing your glass over the girl's head. Ran gives a loud whoop
"You wanna take her from me? Go ahead, try," you'd said while Ran was talking Sevika down. The smile on your face was near-manic. "See what she does when you put your hands on me."
It's not like this woman was exactly tiny or helpless-looking; most in Zaun strived to be neither. But Sevika hadn't been lying when she said you could take her.
It was not a memo she'd received, though.
You couldn't recall what exactly she'd said, but you do know your mind reached an immediate state of singularity when she said she'd kill you before Sevika could do anything about it.
BET
"Goddammit-" Sevika barks out your name as she shoots up from her chair. Ran is doubled over with laughter
She's deceptively fast for her height, and thank fucking god for it. Her human arm wraps around your waist like a vise, pulling you back with ease
She would've been cutting up right with Ran in any other circumstance, given the way you were stancing on the now-dazed woman, fists clenched and shoulders shrugged up like an angry big cat
"Down, girl," she mutters to you. Her lips quirk up at the way you shift your jaw around, obviously still pissed off and ready to scrap
"I was defending your honor." "Mhm. What would I do without you, huh?"
Sevika's in front of you when the woman scrambles up out of her seat to retaliate. Sevika towers over the both of you, and you're nearly completely hidden behind her now as she glares at the woman
"You don't wanna fight her, much less me. Go ahead and clear off."
Maybe jealousy isn't as accurate of a term for you as territorial. You've got nothing to be jealous of, not with how fiercely devoted Sevika is at every turn

âââ ââ
ââ
â âââ
Itâs not the end of the world to be single. Youâve gone your whole life technically being singleâ each guy youâve had a thing with never resulted in a full fledged relationship. It never really seemed to bother you that much, youâd learned to be more independent and learned that your time is in fact more valuable than men think. Though, as the years passed and your friends started to get into serious relationships you couldnât help but feel a little left behind.
You knew everyoneâs time would come and seriously you were in your early to mid twenties â you still had a whole lifetime ahead of you. But the third wheeling you seemed to be a professional at by now was starting to get embarrassing. Also, holidays just really seemed to suck while being single. You knew there was more to life than being in a relationship, but god dammit youâre a human. You crave love and affection and no matter how independent you areâ you still want to love and be loved.Â
Your friend group had unsuccessfully tried setting you up with more guys than you could count. Each one you really did try and give a chance, but there was nothing there. You didnât think you had high standards by any means, but if you didnât feel anything with these guys then why waste your time?Â
âYou went on how many dates this month and none of them piqued your interest?â Your friend grills you as the two of you are sitting on the balcony of your apartment. Youâd come back from another unsuccessful date and decided to drown your sorrows with a bottle of wine and a yapping session.Â
âGenuinely think there might be something wrong with me at this point.â You complain as you sip the sweet wine in your glass.Â
âThere isnât anything wrong with you.â The two dates a week for the past month say different, but you werenât going to actually disclose that number to her. âMaybe your heart has already laid claim to someone else?âÂ
âI think I would know if I was in love with someone.â She doesnât say anything, but the way she inconspicuously sips her wine is telling you what sheâs wanting to say. âNot this again.âÂ
She puts her hands up in defense all while having a shit eating grin on her face. âI didnât even say anything, but you immediately assuming thatâs who Iâm talking about says it all.âÂ
âIâm not in love with Lando.âÂ
Yes you were.Â
âI mean heâs one of my closest friends and it would just make things weird. He also for sure does not look at me in any way other than platonic. Heâs got models flocking to him and literally thousands of other girlsâ I couldnât compete.â Your friend remains silent once again as she sips her wine and watches the scene in front of her unfold. âOkâ just because I drunkenly admitted last year that I might possibly have a little tiny miniscule amount of feelings towards him does not mean Iâm in love with him.âÂ
âYes it does.â Your friend replies without missing a beat.Â
âNo it doesnâtâ You say with a huff.Â
âY/N, babe. You donât see what everyone else sees and maybe your brain is trying to protect itself from the small chance of destruction, but you two are so in love itâs actually ridiculous.âÂ
âI donât think heâs looking for a relationship right now. If this season so far is any indication of what next season is gonna be like, do you really think heâll want a serious relationship to juggle too?â Youâd chugged the last bit of wine in your glass and immediately filled it back up.Â
A loud scoff comes from your friend. âWith some girl he just met? No. You are a whole different story though. You two have history and are quite literally each otherâs person. Two peas in a pod. Match made in heaven.âÂ
You didnât understand why your friend was so adamant about Lando and you getting together. What if it ended in flames and your friend group is stuck having to play children of divorce? You donât want that.Â
âDo you hear yourself right now? I think youâve had too much wine because thatâs not true.âÂ
She sits up on the edge of the wicker couch with an annoyed expression painted across her face âDo you hear yourself? Iâve never seen someone deny themselves happiness like you.âÂ
âI donât think I have actual feelings for Lando though. I really think itâs just because we are the only two single people in our friend group and itâs like I feel obligated to somehow have feelings for him. I just need to find the right person and whatever I may be feeling about Lando will go away.âÂ
If someone could professionally roll their eyes your friend would be a pro. âYouâve already found the right person though!â
Before you can argue back for the hundredth time tonight the familiar tune of an incoming facetime call fills the air. Your phone thatâs sitting on the glass coffee table lights up and Landoâs face fills the screen. You glance over at your friend whoâs got a smirk on her face that could rival the Cheshire Cat.Â
âSpeak of the devil.â She laughs.Â
You let it ring, fully knowing that if you answer it your friend will be insufferable the whole time youâre talking to him. You do send him a quick text to make sure everything's alright and of course he immediately responds with-
everything's all right.. just missed you is all.Â
Which has you locking your phone and stuffing it in the pocket of your hoodie. When you reach for your glass and realize itâs empty again you decide to just grab the bottle and drink straight from it.Â
âDrinking from the bottle because youâve come to terms with how dumb youâve been?â Your friend teases.Â
âNope. Itâs from having to deal with you all evening.âÂ
Alright so maybe you did have actual feelings for Lando, but you were never going to fully admit that to your friend or anyone else for that matter. You didnât want to risk ruining what you two already had, which was an amazing friendship. So for the following months you continue to go on an endless amount of dates and with each one that fails your friend's voice rings in your mind.
Maybe you wouldnât be able to find someone else if you subconsciously compared every guy to Lando. They were never funny enough or charming enough or took themselves too seriously. In the end it was simply the fact that they werenât Lando. So maybe your heart had already dug its claws into Lando, but you werenât going to give up without one last battle.Â
âââ ââ
ââ
â âââ
New Year's Eve. The final night of the year and the one party of the year that celebrates ends and beginnings. Youâd hoped that with the plan you had for tonight that your streak of horrible dates would end and the next one would be the one. The trend of eating twelve grapes under a table at midnight on New Yearâs Eve had been all over your social media. According to the internet if you were to do this youâd find love or your soulmate the following yearâ which was something you were so desperate for. So, your said plan was to bring some grapes with you and find a table to sit under.Â
As you were taking one last final look in the mirror a familiar British accent echoed through your apartment. âAre you almost ready?âÂ
You quickly slipped on your heels and grabbed your bag off the dresser, but by the time you turned around there stood Lando, leaning against your doorframe with a slight smirk on his face. âBeen waiting forever. Itâs gonna be next year by the time we get out of here.âÂ
His teasing, which usually always got a reaction out of you, was ignored. The sight of him had you frozen in your tracks for a moment. He had on a white button up, which he always looked good in, but it was the couple of undone buttons at the top and the necklace you got him for his birthday last year around his neck that got your attention. There was always something about seeing Lando in things you got him that made that funny feeling bloom in your stomach. Perhaps it was the fact that everytime he chose to wear them you knew he was thinking about you and that when he was away a part of you was always with him.Â
âQuit staring.âÂ
You're knocked out of your trance and the blush that creeps onto your cheeks from getting caught is almost as embarrassing as being caught. âI wasnât staring. I was admiring my good taste. Should have gotten one myself.â You try to play it off and push your way past him with what little amount of confidence you have at the moment.Â
âIâll get it for you, then we can be matching.â Lando says as he follows behind you.Â
âI can buy it myself.âÂ
âYeah, but Iâm still gonna get it for you anyways.â
You stop in the kitchen and grab the little bag of grapes out of the fridge. âI donât need you to get it for me Lan.â Youâre too preoccupied with figuring out how to fit everything into your small purse to see the utterly confused look on Landoâs face.Â
âOk forget about the necklace. Why the hell are you bringing grapes with you?âÂ
âIncase I get hungry.â You reply without missing a beat.Â
âThere will literally be food at the party. I even made sure Max got those little cocktail sausages you like.âÂ
And there he goes again, making those feelings youâve tried and are still presently trying to push down come to the surface all because of some damn cocktail sausages. âI appreciate that Lan, but Iâve been on a grape kick lately. Just canât seem to get enough of them.âÂ
With your purse finally closed with the grapes securely inside, you head towards the door, more than ready to get to the party.Â
âIâll text Max and tell him to get some grapes delivered.â Lando mumbles as he closes the door behind him.Â
âââ ââ
ââ
â âââ
Youâd never considered yourself much of a party girl, but there must have been something in the air tonight because you were living it up. From the dancing to the drinking and then to top it off somehow in the middle of everything you showed off your DJing skills with Lando.Â
Somehow youâd managed to unglue yourself from Lando for a moment and ended up in the kitchen among the various kinds of alcohol. Youâre pouring the last bit of coke into your coke and malibu when Max comes up beside you.Â
âI see you finally escaped from Lando for a moment.âÂ
An airy laugh emits from you. âYeah, heâs been a little clingy tonight.â You state as you turn and lean back against the counter, facing the large crowd of people.Â
Max copies your actions, but not before grabbing a beer. âWhat are you talking about tonight? When heâs back home itâs like you two are conjoined at the hip.â Which was true, but you didnât get to see Lando as much as youâd like, so you make the most of what you can. âOh forgot to tell you, your grapes are in the fridge.â He motions towards the stainless steel appliance with his beer bottle. âLando better pay me back. Do you know how much I paid to get that damn bag delivered? Absolutely insane.âÂ
Your mouth forms an âOâ shape at Maxâs words. âI heard him mention something about asking you to get some when we were leaving. I thought he was just joking.âÂ
Max scoffs. âThere is no such thing as Lando joking when it comes to you. Think heâd chop off his own arm to make sure you were happy. Hell if you needed an organ heâd be the first one in line to give you one.âÂ
This time itâs your turn to scoff. âNo he wouldnât.âÂ
âWhy do you do that?â Max groans.Â
You narrow your eyes at him, confused as to what he was referring to. âDo what?âÂ
âAct like he doesnât think the world of you.âÂ
Your mouth opens to reply, but no words come out. Instead you bring your cup to your lips and fill the void with your drink. What Max had said was true, but you couldnât help it. You figured if you forced yourself to think that Lando didnât care that deeply about you, then those feelings that you harbor for him wouldnât rise to the surface. It didnât help that his behavior recently had you thinking that perhaps he felt the same about you and when you have your mutual friends in your ear implying that to be true it just makes things that much harder for you.Â
âYou probably havenât even noticed that heâs been practically watching us talk this whole time have you?âÂ
You can feel your heart rate start to speed up just at the thought of it. As your eyes scan the room they finally land on the Brit standing in the corner with some other people, but heâs not actually engaging in the conversation, heâs too busy staring back at you. Somehow from across the room you can still see those pretty mixture of blue and green eyes of his sparkle and when he realizes you're finally looking back at him a shy smile spreads across his face before heâs quickly looking away.Â
âWish you two would stop dancing around each other and just admit what we all already know.â Max mumbles before taking a swig of his beer.Â
Maybe itâs the mixture of alcohol and the fact that youâve once again got someone in your ear about Lando and you, but you can sense those feelings starting to claw their way back up and you arenât sure if you can push them back down tonight.Â
âTen minutes until midnight!â The DJâs voice travels through the apartment and youâre sure Max will be getting some kind of fee taped to his door in the morning.Â
Max says something about talking to you later before exiting the kitchen and you realize with ten minutes till midnight that youâve got to get your grapes and find a table to fit under. For the moment you push Lando to the back of your mind and focus on your very important task at hand.Â
Luckily for you Max had a decently sized dining table in his apartment so with your grapes in hand you crawled under the table, which thankfully was shielded by a tablecloth, and settled in for your feast.Â
Lando on the other hand had been searching for you everywhere since the ten minute announcement. Heâd literally just seen you in the kitchen with Max and then when he looked back again you were both gone. Heâd gone in the bathrooms, the bedrooms, the closets, every single place he could think you would be and itâs like you had vanished. Max had a large apartment, especially to be living in London, but it wasnât that big to allow for you to not be found. His texts to you had gone unanswered and he began to think maybe you had left, but he knew you would have told him if you were leaving, so that theory went out the window.Â
When the five minute announcement hit his ears he began asking people if they had seen you and with each no or i think she was in the kitchen a while ago he received his hopes of finding you before midnight started to diminish.Â
Heâd finally worked up the courage to tell you how heâd felt tonight. After years of holding himself back and not wanting to ruin what you two already had, heâd decided that life was too short and that he would come to regret not allowing himself to truly love you like he should. He knew you were the one and there wasnât a bone in his body that didnât think you didnât feel the same. So, he was finally going to bite the bullet tonight and he wanted you to be the person he was kissing as the clock struck twelve. But if he couldnât find you, then how in the world was he supposed to do that?Â
Lando was honestly starting to get worried over not being able to find you, screw the whole love confession at this point. What if something had happened to you? Heâd been all over Maxâs place countless times and he still couldnât find you. With the official countdown echoing through the apartment he decided to just say fuck it and head to your place and see if you had gone home.
As he was heading to get his coat a familiar sparkly heel sticking out from under the dining table caught his attention. It was the same type of heels heâd seen you put on earlier and he did somewhat of a double take. He wondered if it was the couple drinks heâd had messing with him because why would you be sitting under Maxâs dining table?Â
He crouches down and slowly lifts the table cloth up, unsure of what heâs going to find underneath it. Everyone is only getting louder and with five seconds until midnight what he finds staring back at him under the table is not at all how he expected his night to end up. There you are with your now empty bag of grapes on the floor and your cheeks stuffed full of said grapes. You resemble something of a chipmunk and Lando canât help but laugh at you.Â
âWhat the hell are you doing down here?âÂ
The excessively loud shouting of happy new year from everyone while noise makers and confetti fill the air distract both Lando and you for a moment. He didnât think this is the position heâd be in right now, he figured heâd be in that crowd with his lips on yours like so many others right now. While you on the other hand didnât think youâd be caught in such an embarrassing situation, not to mention you hadnât even gotten all your grapes down, so this stupid thing was probably all for nothing.Â
His attention is back on you in no time and he really wants to know what you were doing. Were you that addicted to grapes that you had to hide under the table while you got your fix? If so, he may need to have a talk with you.Â
âSeriously, why are you hiding under the table stuffing grapes into your mouth?â He prods again.Â
Your mouth is still so full of the grapes that you canât really talk and all you can manage to get out is leave while simultaneously trying to jab his leg with your heel. You were embarrassed and at this point scared you might choke on the grapes, and youâd rather go out in peace then have Lando cause a scene because you were choking.Â
âOuch!â Lando yelps as your heel finally makes contact with him. You know heâs being dramatic because you barely even kicked him, but you would try anything for him to drop that table cloth and let you be. âCome on, come out from under there.â Lando grabs your arm and practically forces you to come out from under the table.
Luckily, everyone else was too preoccupied with still ringing in the New Year to see you crawl out and as you dust yourself off you're still chomping on the last couple grapes left. The party only seems to be getting crazier and you donât really feel like staying here until the party inevitably ends at an ungodly hour in the morning, especially now that your plan for love has undoubtedly failed.Â
You finally swallow the last couple grapes and take a deep breath, the fear of choking and embarrassment now behind you. âDo you care if I leave? Not really feeling the party that much anymore.âÂ
Lando doesnât even question your request. âIâll walk you home, let me grab our coats and tell Max we are leaving.âÂ
âââ ââ
ââ
â âââ
The cold England air hits you as you exit Maxâs apartment building and youâre thankful that your place isnât very far from his. Itâs silent between Lando and you for some time, the sound of your heels on the pavement, fireworks in the distance, and other people celebrating are the only things you two hear.Â
âCan I ask you something?â Lando finally breaks the silence.Â
âShoot.âÂ
He takes a deep breath fully knowing once he opens this locked away side of him that thereâs no going back. âHave you ever thought about us?âÂ
You feel your heart skip a beat at his question, yet you try to remain cool and collected. âWhat do you mean?âÂ
He stops in his tracks causing you to mimic his actions. âLike,â he motions between the two of you, âus.â
Thereâs not a doubt in your mind about what heâs referring to and yes you do think about the two of you. Yet your brain feels scrambled once you're actually confronted with the possibility of Lando feeling the same as you. Youâd tried so hard to ignore the feelings, hell youâd tried something you saw on the internet to hopefully bring a different man into your life to finally squash those feelings. Youâd just never thought youâd be in this position though and itâs throwing you into a whirlwind.Â
Lando isnât sure what your silence means and he figures heâs already started, he might as well just fully admit it at this point.Â
âFuck it. I told myself I was going to do this tonight and Iâm not gonna chicken out again.â His cheeks are rosy from the cold and you can tell by the way his pretty eyes dart all around your face that heâs trying to figure out how to say what he wants to say. âIâve got feelings for you.â He finally blurts out.
âNo scratch that Iâm in love with you Y/N. Think I have been for some time now. Iâve tried telling you how I felt for what seems like ages, but Iâve always been too scared to. Iâve been afraid that you wouldnât feel the same and to me Iâd rather bottle up my feelings and keep you in my life then tell you how I feel and lose you. But clearly Iâve grown tired of that and realized that the reward would be higher than the risk. Youâre my person Y/N. I couldnât imagine life without you and to have you be mine would make life that much better. So here I am baring my heart to you on some street in London on New Yearâs Eve. I actually had a whole plan on how I was-âÂ
His rambling while you loved most of the time was cut off by your desire to shut him up with your lips on his and you did just that. You grabbed him by his coat and pulled him into you, your lips crashing together. It takes him a moment to realize what's happening, but when his brain finally starts to work and he kisses you back itâs everything you could have imagined and more.
Kissing Lando is like heaven on Earth and the way his soft lips feel against yours has you wishing you would have just stopped being so stubborn and listened to your friends ages ago. His large warm hands come out of his pockets and he cups your face as he deepens the kiss, which has you feeling lightheaded and warm all over.Â
Thereâs fireworks being let off not too far away that light up the sky above you, but youâre too engrossed in each other to pay them much mind. Itâs truly like a scene straight out of a movie and you know youâll remember this moment forever.Â
You two finally pull away to breathe and itâs like you can see the world in a whole new way. The depressing grey landscape of London in the winter time suddenly looks like it was painted in technicolor and neither of you can wipe the cheek hurting grin off your faces. âSo I guess you feel the same?â He asks.Â
âYes Lando Norris, Iâm in love with you too. Have been for a while and like you I didnât want to ruin what we already have. To me there was no possible way that you felt the same and I hate rejection and the idea of losing you. So, I went on a million dates trying to find someone that would replace how I felt about you, but I guess you canât replace someone who your heart has already laid claim to.âÂ
You feel Lando intertwine your fingers with his and itâs like everything just feels right in the world.Â
âIâm glad we stopped being so stubborn and that I donât have to see you out with all those random guys anymore.âÂ
âBelieve me, none of them even came close to comparing to you. It was like going on a date with a sack of potatoes most of the time.âÂ
His infectious laugh fills your ears and you feel your heart swell. You canât believe this was what you were depriving yourself of for so long.Â
The rest of the walk back to your apartment is spent walking hand in hand. All while little giggles escape each of you ever so often and Lando occasionally kisses you on the head or lifts your intertwined hands up to plant a kiss there.Â
âI have to ask again. Itâs really been bugging me. What were you doing under that table?â Lando asks as you near your apartment building. A loud groan emits from you and there isnât anything less that you would want to talk about than that. âCome on, just tell me!âÂ
âFine! I saw this thing on the internet that if you eat twelve green grapes under a table at midnight that itâs supposed to bring you luck in the love department in the New Year. Like youâd find your soulmate or something. I was so desperate to try and get over these feelings I have for you so what we had wouldnât be ruined that I was willing to try anything.âÂ
Heâs silent for a moment and then he looks at you with the biggest smile on his face. âWell Iâd say it worked didnât it? Youâve found love and not to be overzealous, but Iâd say your soulmate too.âÂ
Youâre stunned for a moment when you realize that yes, the grapes did work, just not in the way you planned. The universe had put Lando in your life years ago and for some weird reason had you wait this long to finally truly be in one another's lives, but you wouldnât have it any other way. Hell, youâd eat a whole package of grapes if that meant Lando and you got to be together in every lifetime.Â
âThey did, didn't they? I guess almost choking to death was worth it in the end.âÂ
âI mean I know Iâm every womanâs dream, but you didnât almost have to kill yourself to get my attention baby.âÂ
You playfully slap his arm as he laughs at you. That big head of his was sometimes fully ego and you realized you were going to have to put up with it all the time now. âOh shut up.âÂ
âYeah, but you love me.â He states before pressing a kiss to your lips, which has your mind feeling like TV static once again.Â
When you pull away and look him in the eyes thereâs nothing but pure love staring back at you and you know that this is who is meant to be in your life, till the end. âMore than youâll ever know.âÂ
The next morning you receive a group text from Max with Lando and you in it. Â
max: why have i found an empty bag with what looks to be a grape stem in it under my dining table??? i fully know it was one of you.
you: i donât know what you're talking about.Â
lando: me either. no grapes were consumed by us last night. must have been someone else.Â
