I forgot Kevin Kline was in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I also forgot Demi Moore was in it. I also forgot he was in The Road to El Dorado (I saw that film only once when I was like 5. I don't remember it well). I don't know if I've seen him in any films actually besides those two (which I never knew he was in), but I've seen him in Bob's Burgers. And he's great in that. He's got a very fun character and the way he delivers the lines is very fun. So I can at least say I like him in this one show.

i think if gayle was raised by actual competent parents she would have grown up to be more emotionally stable tbh she has character traits of all three belcher kids except brought to an extreme and with no support
like she has gene's love of performing and attention and his inferiority complex/feeling like a failure compared to his siblings (this is referenced FAR LESS for gene but trust me its a thing) and tina's social awkwardness and love of boys/romance, louise's general disregard for social rules and love of chaos and adventure but the difference is the belcher kids were raised by GOOD PARENTS who loved them and taught them to deal with their emotions in a healthy and productive way without enabling them
meanwhile gayle was very clearly neglected and put down all her life (people always say gayle got all her parents attention and took it away from linda but i dont see any real proof of that i think they just didnt care about taking care of their kids in general, at least beyond basic physical needs)
she never had parents to tell her she was important and loved or to help her deal with emotional dysfunction or feeling like nobody cared about her and acting out to get attention/faking an illness (VERY CLEARLY a sign of severe mental illness) im not saying gayle is a good person or sister and she mistreats people in her life a lot but she got a terrible mix of abuse/neglect from her parents and enabling from her sister so its not surprising she turned out this way
tbh linda is only as well put-together as she is because it was a coping mechanism in a dysfunctional family (and probably a promise to herself that she would be better than her parents) and she also obviously has issues with boundaries etc

Note
What’s Beabadoobee’s style like?
A lot of it is kinda acoustic pop, mellow, some has a touch of a rock/indie edge. I like it and she's adorable but it didn't really stick with me the way Gayle's music did.

pairing - dad!oscar piastri x mom!reader
summary - a sweet moment between Oscar and reader wrapping presents for their daughters
a/n - same kids no change 🤍 Gayle, Niamh and Lola 🎄 day two
★ ☆ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“You know what I feel like right now?”
“What?”
“A fairy godmother,” Oscar smiles as he tries to wrap a stuffed animal but fails and ditches it for a gift bag.
“Oh yeah? With all the gifts you spoil them with I don’t think fairy godmother is the right word.” Y/n laughs, shaking her head side to side as she grabs the teddy bear from Oscar.
Oscar chuckles, reaching for the next thing to wrap. He lands on a Barbie and smiles at the old memories of his sisters playing with them all the time when they were younger.
Y/n smiles at her husband as he mindlessly puts a bow around the stuffed animal’s neck. Oscar successfully wraps the doll and sets it under the tree with a proud grin on his face.
“What’s this?” Y/n lays out a small shirt with the number 4 and Norris on the back.
“Lando said that since he already gave Niamh and Gayle a shirt for their first Christmas, he had to continue the tradition for Lola.” Oscar shrugs, leaning over to see the shirt.
Y/n smiles, as she starts to neatly fold the shirt and puts it under the tree and on top of a gift box for Lola.
The couple continues, happily talking with each other while wrapping presents. Y/n leans against her husband and Oscar kisses her shoulder.
Y/n shifts, groaning and making a face when she sees the random pile of gifts in the corner.
“What is that?” She points a finger at the pile and scowls.
“Stuff from Lando,” Oscar smiles, leaning in to kiss her cheek.
“Great,”

Bechdel Testing Ninjago
Tumblr media
So, a little while ago I did the Bechdel test on Ninjago because I've always seen the show as sort of an interesting case study in how women are portrayed in cartoons. Of course, I'm aware the Bechdel test originated as a joke and something passing the Bechdel test doesn't make it feminist/not. Rather, or for me at least, it's an indication of how deficient female representation can be at an aggregate scale. As a way to analyze Ninjago, I feel it works as it shows how female representation over the course of the show. If you're interested I'll now discuss my thoughts on how the analysis went season by season. DISCLAIMER: I did this for fun.
Tumblr media
The pilot was easy. Nya's the only one, so test failed across the board. The first episode that passed the test was when Jay's parents came to visit. Yay Edna! Mystake does show up in episode 7 but, I don't count it as she has not yet been named. 12&13 had a kid's mom in a bus which I decided was enough cus hey, Mom's a name she uses.
Tumblr media
Here's where we really get going. Patty Keys, their real estate agent continues to show up through seabound as a background character, which is pretty cool imo. Episode 5, Mystake finally gets named. Episode 6 was huge for my chart as it's the introduction of Misako. You'd think episode 7 is when her and Nya talked but that's actually when Nya and Gayle had a lil convo. From then on I spent the episodes just staring at the Nya and Misako thinking "talk to her talk to her talk to her." Fortunately, when they did speak, Nya and Misako would be discuss like science, maps, and fate of the world so I never ran into a problem with rule 3. That is, until Rebooted.
Tumblr media
The good news is Pixal's here so it'll be years before we fail rule 1 again. The bad news is we've got a love triangle so goodbye rule 3. Nya actually talked to her student, Sally, and Pixal quite often but it was so often about Jay or Cole so I would just be scouring the episode for a single exchange where they talked about anything else. During the Tournament, Nya, Pixal, Skylor, and Misako were all in different groupings and it was rare that Tox or Camille would say something so no rule 2/3 successes until late season.
Tumblr media
The good news is, the love triangle is over so we're back to rule 2 usually meaning rule 3. The bad news is, Pixal's in Zane's head so we're back to hoping Misako and Nya say something to eachother. Nya usually shared her scenes with Wu, Ronin, and Jay during these seasons so chances were few and far between. However, unlike the first few seasons where the default was male, we're now getting some female henchmen (Bansha and Dogshank) so that made things easier.
Tumblr media
Thank you for being in Day of the Departed Edna Walker. Early Hands of Time was tough because Nya, Misako, and Commander Macchia were rarely in the same scenes. In the latter half of the season though, we thankfully see the return of Pixal. Maya also helped us with some wins.
Tumblr media
What a breath of fresh air. Thanks to Harumi & Ultraviolet's introduction, Pixal's return, Mystake's upgrade to a reoccuring character, and Nya & Misako's continued support, failing even rule 3 is pretty rare during the Oni Trilogy. We run into some complications during Hunted because though we have Skylor and the aforementioned characters in Ninjago and Faith & Jet Jack in the First Realm, sometimes people don't talk to eachother. And that's ok. Overall, smooth sailing.
Tumblr media
Ah??!? What happened. Worry not. I realized this was, in part, because the Oni Trilogy had 20 minutes worth of chances for women to speak to eachother, these were only 10 minute episodes. So, for the sake of comparable units of analysis, I considered each pair of episodes to be 1 episode. I'll show both charts until DR.
Tumblr media
It looks a little better, but it's still not at Oni Trilogy levels. Still, I'd be curious to see what the test would look like if I dissected the earlier episodes into 10 minute chunks because it's probably not a great sign if 10 v 20 minutes makes such a big difference. Ok, proceeding. The Fire Chapter was usually pretty successful because Pixal, Aspheera, or Nya would usually end up talking at one point or another. Gayle even helped at one point. The Ice chapter usually achieved successes through Nya talking to Sorla. In one episode, I counted the Preminent's roars as conversation with Pixal. The Ice Chapter had quite a few failures largely because, as in previous seasons, all the women were split up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite the fact that Nya was one of the longest lived ninja, Prime Empire has total failures at levels not seen since before season 2. This is largely because for the most part, Pixal and Nya are never in the same episode. Racer 7 helps but she was only there for a bit. I should point out that I feel like the 10 minute era is really when Pixal starts feeling like part of the team to me. She's always part of homebase meetings and always plays a key part in missions. Alas, if she's not in episodes with Nya, that's not going to show up on my chart. It's a reminder of the fact this test doesn't show substance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Master of the Mountain is similar to the other seasons of its era. The fact the 10 minute era tended to show its plots episode by episode (ex: Ep 3 = Plot A, Ep 4 = Plot B, Ep 5 = Plot C) rather than all in one really takes a toll on the test. For the most part, Nya and Vania were our only chances for success and it was rare they'd share an episode. We also had the rare rule 3 failure with the Queen of the Munce episode. Thanks Jay. The Island only had Nya until they found Misako, so it was struggling even more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It feels right to see all green when it's a Nya season. In the beginning of Seabound, they put Nya, Pixal, and Maya on a boat together and by jove it made things easy. Late season was a bit trickier because Nya was on her own journey. Crystalized had Skylor, Pixal and some ressurected villains saving the day. Late Crystalized is the way it is because it had so, so many different groupings. I have a chart based on groupings and this season was such a challenge.
Tumblr media
I really felt the difference with Dragons Rising. I mean, you can see the difference, but it was even more clear when doing my data collection because it was just so easy. Rather than grabbing at scraps of dialogue like I had to do in early seasons, there was often a wealth of more meaningful conversation between female characters to choose from. As with the Oni Trilogy, a female villain with a female henchman makes things easy because they scheme together. We also had Nya and Sora on a joint quest. Funnily enough, there is a rare rule 3 failure because Sora and Kreel only talked about Kreel's friend in one episode. Episode 17 had the classic split up issue and actually would've failed entirely if not for Agent Underwood, which is actually a great example of my next point. You can really tell how male is no longer the default because not only is there the introduction of all the fantastic new female main characters, but also there's plenty of random female characters scattered throughout. I haven't seen DRS2P2 yet but I expect it'll be more of the same. I should mention I also made a chart with the reverse (two named men in an episode who talk about eachother about something besides a woman). Only three episodes fail in any capacity. (Say thank you to the Akita, Pixal, and Harumi solo episodes). If you read this whole thing, thank you. I had a lot of fun doing it. Let me know if there's any other charts I can do!

CBS News has a fine heritage and some great news talent, but the folks in charge seem determined to destroy its reputation.
Start with the ludicrous blowback to CBS Mornings host Tony Dokoupil’s Sept. 30 interview with Ta-Nehisi Coates, in which Dokoupil pressed Coates on crucial facts he’d left out of his new anti-Israel book, such as the fact that the Jewish state is “surrounded by countries that want to eliminate it.”
They were all completely reasonable questions to ask about a polemic of its author, an intellectual who certainly should be able to defend his work.
But other network staff were furious at this act of Journalism 101: You’re not supposed to question lefties about their claims, it seems.
Surely they weren’t angry just because Coates is black, or anti-Israel?
Whatever: The suits pulled Dokoupil into a meeting with CBS News standards and practices team and its “Race and Culture Unit,” and reportedly chewed him out on a staff call, claiming his questioning of Coates didn’t meet CBS’ “editorial standards.”
CBS News CEO Wendy McMahon and her lieutenant Adrienne Roark reprimanded him for bringing “bias” to the interview, but failed to explain exactly how.
The re-education effort was also to feature a followup staff meeting moderated by Dr. Donald Grant, whom management called a “mental health expert, DEI strategist and trauma trainer” — but that got squelched after outside critics exposed Grant as wacko whose social-media posts include a racist smear of Sen. Tim Scott.
Meanwhile, Coates on a Trevor Noah podcast suggested that Gayle King (who was also sitting in on the interview, along with Nate Burleson) had told him before the sitdown what she planned to ask.
That sounds a lot more like a violation of good news practice than what Dokoupil did, but there’s no sign of any trouble for King.
Then came Bill Whitaker’s entirely professional interview of Kamala Harris, where she time and again dodged any substantial answers, prompting him to follow up, only for the Democratic candidate for president to dissolve into fresh word-salads and other evasions.
Once again, the higher ups felt compelled to intervene — by blatantly editing the package to make Harris look less awful.
Yes, blatantly: Soon after taping, the network released the raw footage of her hopeless answer to a question about Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu.
But by the time it aired that night, they’d edited in a “response” that was actually pulled from earlier in the conversation, and so make her seem more competent and less, well, Harris-y.
That is: CBS literally faked the “news.”
The editing also featured dubbing in narration by Whitaker over some of her responses, thereby burying more of the inconvenient truths revealed by the interview.
It’s hard to blame the Trump campaign for demanding that CBS release the raw transcript: It’d be one honorable response to being exposed as blatantly partisan hacks.
All this, incidentally, follows the thumb-on-the-scale work of CBS’ moderators in the J.D. Vance-Tim Walz debate, including Margaret Brennan’s utterly partisan and counter-factual “fact-check” of Vance.
CBS should be proud of Dokoupil and Whitaker’s work, ashamed of King and Brennan, yet management instead seems determined to teach up-and-comers to avoid honest journalism.
Ultimate owner Sheri Redstone has publicly supported Dokoupil and implicitly slammed the suits who came down on him.
Redstone’s trying to sell off CBS, but she might want to demand a management housecleaning now, since the folks running the news division seem determined to mis-manage its value down to zero.

Sam Carpenter as your girlfriend headcannons (Part 37)
Tumblr media
The way she kisses you my god her kisses are to die for
No one else can make you blush the way Sam does
And no one can occupy your mind the way Sam does
The way Sam looks at you is like nothing else you’ve ever seen. The way she looks at you and is obsessed over your beauty she cherishes you
And she never wants to stop holding you
Her protectiveness may be a bit too much but you know it’s her way of making you feel safe
Sleeping on her you have a great sleep
Sleeping next to her Sam finds it easier to sleep when you sing to her
(Let’s pretend ghost face loses in a basketball game they will never show their face again and everyone lives)
Wes teases Sam about her crush on you
Chad and Mindy call you and Sam love birds
Gayle and Sidney and Dewy see how happy Sam makes you. They find it cute that Sam always has her arms around you that’s how she claims you hehe
Tara smiled at you and Sam cuddling and it makes her happy to see her sister has found love
You really liked Sam. You’d go bowling with your friends and see Sam. The moment you locked eyes with Sam it was like the universe and fate said you and Sam are meant to be
Your first date with Sam was going bowling and you won
And you and Sam made a bet that if you’d win she had to kiss you because Sam always gives you the I wanna kiss you sexy eyes look when she looks at you
You and Sam held hands as she walked you to your car. And she did it. She kissed you. The kiss was so soft. Electrifying. And so sweet.
And that’s when Sam became your girlfriend
She freaking admires your smile and the way you sway your hips on purpose so Sam could check you out
She loves you so damn much

Nature Warrior Spring!: The latest addition to the long running magical girl franchise that started in the 70's!
Lily Blossom is a new student in Terra High who wishes to one day become the best gardner ever, just like her great-great grandmother. Unfortunately, not everyone sees the value in this, which makes her a popular target for the local bullies. One night, when she gets discouraged, she's visited by a sentient Bellflower who informs her that she's actually part of a long line of Nature Warriors, who's job is to protect the planet and help nature grows! But, recently, the evil Ivy has grown stronger than ever, and wants to drain the world of flowers, and soon, cause the seasons to go out of wack! With the help of three other girls in her school, Lily steps up to the plate to protect planet earth from climate change! But can she do it?
(Reality: Nature Warrior Spring! is an in-universe show in the Chaos universe, aimed for a younger audience in order to teach the importance of protecting nature. It's the show that Nick and Jasmine attached to, and in Nick's case, his powers manifest when he thinks of Jasmine's favorite character. This show plays an important part of Nick's character; his love of his family, especially his little sister, and this cheesy show is the main connection he has of her)
(all images were made on Meiko because I am too fucking lazy to draw goodbye)
Main Characters
Lily Blossom (she/her)
Tumblr media
The main protagonist. She's an excitable, but a bit easily distracted girl who wants to be a gardener when she grows up. Unforutantely, her eccentric nature has made he the perfect target for bullies, which takes a huge hit to her self esteem. Thankfully, she isn't alone: with her new friend and guide, "Bell" (the sentient Bellflower who can transform into a teenage girl), and eventually the three other girls in her school, she can accomplish anything! Also she maaaayyy or may not have a crush on the student councilor president. Maybe.
Her powers are based on the season of Spring.
Lumi Halla (she/her)
Tumblr media
The richest girl in school, Lumi has a rather snobby personality, and at first, looks down on Lily and her rather "lofty" dream of being a gardener. After all, how can you make money after that? No, to her, being born into wealth is the way to go. But everything changes when Lily saves her from one of Ivy's minion, and at the same time, her powers are born. Now one of Lily's allies (and first friend), her snobby personality all of disappears, and the true, kind hearted girl shines. Most of the time, that is.
Her powers are based on the season of Winter.
Cyrus Gayle (she/her)
Tumblr media
A transfer student from Jamaica, Cyrus is a happy-go-lucky girl who strives to make friends with literally everyone. Everyone! She arrives at Terra High not long after Lumi gets her powers, and it takes no time at all for her and Lily to become friends. Lumi...takes a little longer. Her powers manifest after saving her beloved dog--Sunny--from one of Ivy's minion. Despite her fiery powers, she's the most positive member of the team, always there to cheer someone up when they're down.
Her powers are based on the season Summer.
Maple Wood (they/them)
Tumblr media
Despite being the student idol, Maple is actually rather quiet and keeps to themself, and not much is known about them since they've returned from their concert in South Korea. In fact, they don't become a member of the Nature Warriors for about two weeks, until their power manifest while their Detroit concert is attacked and they, along with Lily's friends, save the audience from Ivy. Once they become a full fledged member, the girls are shocked that they're actually a total goofball with the worst taste in food combinations (seriously, who puts caramel on tomatoes? Gross!)
Their powers are based on the season Fall.

A Steddie / Buckingham comedy of errors of sorts. It goes like this.
Robin thinks Chrissy Cunningham might be her non platonic soulmate. She's smart, a little goofy, observant, seems like a great listener, and after what the rumor mill is saying was a pretty intense summer has really come into her own. It's a shame she went straight from dating Jason to Eddie Munson.
"She said she's working on herself," Steve claims, more in tune with the gossip than she is, "pretty hypocritical of you to say guys and girls can't be friends."
Which is pretty hypocritical of him when she knows he only cares cause he's already planning his wedding to Chrissy's new boyfriend; he needs Eddie to be single otherwise he's pining away for his perfect co-babysitter for nothing.
But it doesn't matter if they are dating or if they aren't or if Chrissy Cunningham with her perfect strawberry blonde ponytail is her soulmate, because her parents keep trying to set her up with some friend of a friend. She needs to do something quick before disaster strikes.
Melissa and Richard Buckley still know how to tie one on, when the occasion strikes. They're parents now, they've settled down some. Given in to the picket fence life, keep their yard mowed so Gayle Collins down the way stops glaring. They haven't done anything really crazy since that weekend they left Robin with Minerva and went to see what that whole Woodstock thing was about. Now they mostly just stick to getting as high as they can and stargazing on the weekends that Robin is off with Steve, a sweet boy kind of a square but the brownie recipe he gave them makes the best edibles.
Melissa can tell her daughter is lonely, she notices a lot of things about Robin that she won't tell them. Richard has noticed that their dealer Eddie has started bringing a friend along with him. Eddie is a sweet boy too, raised well respects his elders something they care about now that they've become them, he is also obviously and fantastically gay. Like all the parents in Hawkins, Richard and Melissa have heard how Wayne Munson has taken in that Cunningham girl after she came back from her trip out of state. Melissa remembers being a vaguely out of control youth and knows that a trip out of state is code for one of two things, and Chrissy doesn't look like she's ever been pregnant. Chrissy seems like a girl who might like their daughter.
Steve would die before he denies Robin just about anything. She is the platonic love of his life, they nearly died together, they've come out together. He's pretty sure as long as he has Robin and his kids he'd be content for the rest of his life, romance be damned.
A sentiment Robin seems to agree with since she wants him to fake being her boyfriend. Obviously, he says yes. Steve is a good boyfriend, he's always been a good boyfriend. He's attentive, great with parents, knows when to keep the pda to a minimum but also knows when to put on a show. He used to be pretty sure that Mr. and Mrs. Buckley liked him. So he's not really sure why they pulled him aside before movie night.
"Your parents hate me."
"There isn't a parent in Hawkins who hates you."
"You mom just asked me if I didn't think it might be better if I found someone more suited to me."
"What does that even mean?"
"It's basically mom code for I think your the worst person my daughter could have brought home. If I had the choice I'd kill you so why don't you do us both a favor and fuck off."
"I don't think that's right."
"Rob, I love you but conversational nuance isn't exactly your thing."
Eddie likes his job. Sure it's technically not honest work, but who knows maybe down the line they'll legalize it. He's getting in on the ground floor, an entrepreneur. Hawkins is surprisingly pro-weed and Eddie is just fine sticking to that after this summer. His favorite customers are the old folks. Like Miss Brenda at the library or the Buckleys. He always brings Chrissy along when he goes out these days, she feels weird staying in the trailer by herself and he likes having her nearby. She puts people at ease.
Except the Buckleys, who seem strangely obsessed with her. They ask her pointed questions about Dorothy, and surely they mean an actual Dorothy, surely the nice middle aged couple aren't trying to figure out if Chrissy is queer. Sure he got some vibes off of Buckley the younger, but that was before she started dating the love of his life. Now he's starting to think his whole gaydar has gone to shit.
Chrissy, a baby gay who has just broken free of the nastiest case of comp het Eddie has ever seen, answer honestly. She doesn't know a Dorothy, is that one of Robin's band friends? How is Robin, she is so sweet. Chrissy just wishes she had more time in the day so they could see each other more. She's dating Steve right, they make just the cutest couple, don't they think?
Eddie can tell Melissa doesn't. A surprise when even Wayne likes Steve Harrington, thinks he's the bees knees. Loaned him a screwdriver or some shit when the guy was over fixing something at the Mayfield place. She smiles though and agrees that Steve is quite sweet, in a tone that Eddie is far more used to hearing used when people are talking about him than about Steve Harrington. He blinks and the next thing he knows Chrissy is agreeing for them both that dinner on Friday sounds lovely; she'll bring a dessert.
Like she's ever baked in her life.
Chrissy Cunningham has had a rough couple of months, but she's settled now. Sure, she had a breakdown so bad in Eddie's trailer that she ended up having to get professional help; but she got that help and a new support system for herself. Really, the only way life could be much better is if she were dating Robin Buckley.
Eddie likes to tease her, calls her a baby gay like she's a wobbly legged deer still figuring things out. She's had eyes on Robin since the fifth grade, when she got her hair cut short to her shoulders the first time and her teeth still had a gap before her braces went on. Steve is a great guy, she's seen him with the group of freshmen that follow him around like ducklings; she's also watching him now and he's spent most of dinner making moon eyes at Eddie instead of his girlfriend.
She doesn't understand how, Robin is a vision. Full of spit and vinegar, she is firecracker mad glaring at her parents across the table. "You really brought him here? I'm dating Steve, can you not accept that?"
A lot happens at once, Chrissy isn't entirely sure what is going on but it feels a lot like a pot boiling over, something left too long unattended.
"We aren't trying to set you up with our dealer," Mr. Buckley said. "You're not exactly his type."
"Chrissy is such a nice girl." Mrs. Buckley tries.
"You said you stopped that," Steve to Eddie, a lethal pout on his lips and downturned eyes.
"Well, I stopped with the kids," Eddie tries, "I gotta pay the bills somehow, sweetheart."
"Chrissy?" If Robin was a vision in her sharp eyed rage, she's radiant in her pink cheeked surprise.
Once the shock, surprise, and comedy wear off Chrissy thinks there will be tears. Robin's parents seem nice. They seem like the kind of parents you confide in and who hold you tight. She thinks about her mom doing something thoughtful, thinks of her quietly accepting who she is and who she loves; and when she can't do that she thinks of Wayne and Eddie and knows she'd cry once they were alone and the theater of it all was over. So she thinks she might need to make the most of her moment while it's there. "I don't want to be a homewrecker," she jokes, something she's picked up from Eddie, "but I think your boyfriend has his eyes other places."
"Boyfriend, what boyfriend?"
"They're showing Clue at The Hawk this weekend, if you want to go with me?"
Robin can't nod her head fast enough.
"Stevie, I noticed you find yourself newly single," Eddie says, sorrow so fake he should rethink his decision to go within 10 feet of the drama department. "If you could bear it, would you want to crash their date make it a double?"
Steve agrees so fast a bit of hair escapes his coif, it falls in a curl at his forehead.
Robin's parents both seem pleased, pleasant smiles that chrissy is becoming more accustomed to seeing on adults now that she resides in the Munson place. "They'll be smug about this forever," Robin confides. Her smile betrays her lack of real dismay.
Chrissy got her girl and her best friend got his boy, so she thinks it's all's well that ends well.

GAYLE RANKIN PHOTOGRAPHED BY ANDREW ARTHUR AND INTERVIEWED FOR ELLE USA MAGAZINE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I was really nervous and, in the best way, really intimidated because after watching the first season of the show”
I was like, ‘Oh, wow. These are serious actors.’
“It’s just a massive ensemble with Liv [Olivia Cooke] and Emma [D’Arcy] at the center, which is just really so exciting to me,” Rankin adds.
But the nerves “dissipated very quickly” during rehearsals and table reads as she got to know her new colleagues, including her frequent scene partner Matt Smith and his dog, Bobby, who he’d sometimes bring to set.
“Then I fell in love with all the actors,” Rankin says.
Cooke, D’Arcy, Phia Saban, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, and Sonoya Mizuno are just a few names she calls out.
“We all became a little bit of a gang and would go out and go dancing....We had a good time.”
Some of them have even come out to watch Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club on Broadway, in which Rankin currently stars as Sally Bowles.
IT MUST BE SO INTERESTING INHABITING A CHARACTER LIKE ALYS, WHO IS VERY SPARSELY FEATURED IN THE BOOK, FIRE & BLOOD — AT LEAST IN THE PARTS COVERED IN THE SHOW SO FAR. WHAT IS IT LIKE AS AN ACTOR TO BUILD A CHARACTER BASED OFF OF LIMITED INFORMATION?
“It’s really fun and a little intimidating because the fandom around these books and this enterprise is so strong and that’s so amazing, but you want to build something that people can relate to and enjoy hand in hand with the book.”
“Because the truth is that you’re absolutely right, there’s hearsay and there’s barely mention of her sometimes.”
“She’s a presence and she becomes this presence that grows and builds throughout the book.”
“Then by the end of the book, she has quite a powerful position in the world and in the story.”
“It’s been interesting to build backwards too.”
To be like, “Okay, so if we were to ever end up here, what would get this place from A to B?”
“It’s been so fun, and there’s so much more to go.”
“There’s so much to build.”
HOW DID YOU INTERPRET OR ATTEMPT TO DEFINE HER POWERS? IS IT MAGIC? IS IT PSYCHIC?
“I like to think of her powers as quite elusive, because that’s probably what they are to her too.”
“As much as she’s aware of what they are, I think they change.”
“She’s powerful in many different ways.”
“I think that she has tactile power; we see her in episode four building some drink for Daemon, which she also tastes herself, which is really interesting.”
“I think she is actually a healer.”
“I think she works as a woods witch, which I would understand as more of a healer and a maester.”
“It’s interesting how we look at what powers are.”
“It’s like, Well, medicine is power.”
“Surgeons have powers.”
“But I also think that she is prophetic.”
“I really believe that, and that’s been talked about a lot.”
“I think there is truth to that, but what I think is a bit of a mystery both to the audience, hopefully, and to her, is how? Where? When? Why? How much of the world can she see?”
I THINK ALYS AND DAEMON'S DYNAMIC IS REALLY INTERESTING. SHE SEEMS FASCINATED BY HIM, BUT ALSO HAS HIM WRAPPED AROUND HER FINGER. SHE CAN PLAY AROUND WITH HIS EMOTIONS. WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE WANTS FROM HIM? WHAT DOES SHE FIND INTERESTING ABOUT HIM? WHY DOES SHE WANT TO HELP HIM TOO?
It’s so funny when you were describing her, I was like, “Oh, yeah. The qualities that any good woman should have.”
EXACTLY. THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH HER.
“No, no, no, no. I know.”
I was just like, “Wow, she sounds great.”
“Why does she want to help him? What we discovered really early on is that there’s something inside of this dynamic in this relationship...there’s something for Alys in it.”
“It’s not just one-sided, I think.”
“We had to really figure that out, because if you are someone who’s prophetic and who knows [the future], why bother?”
“Why take on this man, who is extremely powerful and dangerous and volatile and also extraordinary?”
“I think [with] Alys, it’s almost as if she’s like a 12th-wave feminist or something.”
“She is able to look at the masculine and embrace it in a complex and hopefully forward-moving way.”
“A way to get to “the other” and reach them.”
“I think that’s really cool whilst also getting something for herself too.”
“I think she’s really interested in that.”
“She’s interested in progress, I think, for herself, for the realm...”
“Can you imagine if we could see the future, and what would you do with that information? I don’t know if she’s trying to change it, and that’s really up to the audience.”
“I’ve made decisions inside of my work, but I think why she wants to help him is that she also sees parts of herself in him.”
“A loneliness. A stubbornness. A lostness.”
“I don’t know what to do with my power.”
“I don’t know what to do with my feelings.”
“There’s a kinship there, which I think is really shocking and surprising.”
SO, HER INVOLVEMENT WITH GROVER TULLY'S PASSING IN EPISODE 6: DO WE THINK SHE'S MAYBE ALSO TRYING TO DO SOMETHING FOR HERSELF THERE? LIKE, “I HELPED YOU. WILL YOU HELP ME?”
That just goes to the age-old question, Is there a selfless act?”
Psychologists would probably say, “No, there’s not.”
“What is in it for Alys? I think it’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out.”
“I think that’s what we’ve been trying to build is, what’s in it for this person?”
IT'S INTERESTING TO SEE HOW REACTIONS ONLINE CAN RANGE FROM THAT TO THE OVERWHELMING SUPPORT FOR 'HOUSE OF THE DRAGON.' BEFORE YOUR FIRST EPISODE, I SAW TWEETS THAT WERE LIKE, “IT'S ALYS RIVERS NIGHT!” AND PEOPLE WERE SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO APPEAR.
“It’s like, [gestures her hand up and down like a wave].”
TOTALLY UP AND DOWN.
“It’s been an extreme time.”
“It’s been really extreme.”
“I’ve been so lucky to have amazing people around me and also Jenny Tversky [Rankin’s publicist] being at the absolute helm of that to remind me what this is about.”
“I have to really be real.”
“I was worried that it was going to really negatively affect me, but actually, I’m so happy—the happiest I’ve ever been.”
“I feel stronger, truly, than I ever, ever have been.”
“It’s been hard-won, but a little bit through the fire in some ways over this period of time.”

HOTD Season 2 Review
Now that we have the season in its entirety, I just wanted to put my thoughts down on paper - likes and dislikes. End of season yapping basically.
Things I Liked/Enjoyed
The acting this season was outstanding from all fronts, especially from our actors that were given some of the best material to work with - Emma and Rhys are my standouts for this season (Mentions also go to Matt, Tom and Jefferson).
I loved all our newcomers this season - Freddy, Gayle, Simon - They all did an incredible job and their characters had some of the best characterisation this season imo.
Production/filmography/lighting/costuming etc have all been either massively improved or have exceeded season one.
Both dragon action sequences (Rook’s Rest & The Sowing) were remarkable. They did a fabulous job in terms of visuals and the practical side - it makes me look forward to the battle and action scenes going forward.
I am very happy that the show runners ultimately did not hide away with dream sequences and gave us a haunted Harrenhal.
I loved Rhaenyra’s cult leader/messiah complex in episode seven and I hope they reintroduce that in season three and beyond - I think as it’s seemly confirmed that  Nettles has been removed, this will serve as a great way to push Rhaenyra’s state of mind/paranoia when they dragon seeds betray her.
Matt Smith
Things I Disliked/Unsure Off
This is probably partly due to budgeting, but I honestly do think the writing team is having a really tough time coming up with meaningful arcs that push the story forward, given how much time/’nothing’ happens in between events in the books. A lot of this season was in limbo, and it did feel stagnant. A lot of events had no effect on the overall story, or did briefly, and then quickly forgotten.
As much as I hate to say it, I do believe it has fallen into the ‘evil men start wars, and women just want peace and are too gentle/delicate for it’, and by default it has made Rhaenrya and Alicent seem like incompetent rulers, that do not understand that their past actions have had there part in causing this to happen, or are completely naive to the realities of their current positions.
The Greens being in conflict with each other makes sense, but the conflict within the black camp did not. Showing Rhaenyra to so secretive and hostile towards her own faction (especially Jace), and so gracious toward the greens, the people that have genuinely harmed her, was a really bizarre choice. I really do hope not receiving Aegon when she arrives to KL will be the final blow.
I did not like that Daemon’s core journey this season was him deciding that he did not want to be king. It was a rehash of part of his season one arc that should have concluded with him crowning Rhaenyra. I don’t think there was an issue with him doubting Rhaenyra as a ruler I was at points honestly, but him wanting to be king was never on his cards. The visions could have been a shorter arc and the rivermen arc could have been bulked out more i'm not too up his ass I’ll admit when its not working. I could change my mind on this in season three, depending if they do show the growth Daemon has gone through via his relationship with his girls, Rhaneyra etc
Alicent was a struggle this season. I think she could have been so much fun, so it’s disappointing that they have watered her down so intensely. Perhaps they thought ‘a woman will do anything for her children, to keep them alive, no matter the cost’ was too similar to Cersei? But I wish they had gone that direction, and gave Alicent the guilt Cersei never had, that that ultimately is what drives her ‘mad’. I just think it is such a jarring contrast on the amazing characterisation they did with her in S1 episode six through eight. Going from forcing your son onto the throne in fear for his life, to giving his head on a silver platter to the person you usurped… is certainly a choice. By going and ending Alicent's 'arc' this season they way that they have, they have made her as a character, dare I say pointless? Where does Alicent go from here, if you really think about it? The war has barely started, all her children are alive and she has already given up? You cannot retcon the damage S2 has done to her, they have given her nothing to work with going forward. Absolutely nothing. And the rest of the story has and will suffer for it.
Just ultimately frustrated we will seemingly not get ‘bastard blood shed at war’ conversation - the impact a Rhaenyra and Alicent reunion would have had had they waited until season three, with two of Rhaenyra’s sons dead, would have been incredible and actually felt earned, and I’m sad we will not get it.
The fact that show runners, writers, directors and even some of the cast contradict themselves from interview to interview, really makes it seem none of them have agreed on characterisation or arc, and I feel I can see that within some of the writing and decisions. I feel like I could ask one of them, ‘Is Daemon in love with Alicent?’ and they would respond with some yes/no ‘don’t rule anything out’ answer.
They need to stop cutting pivotal moments to leave up to interpretation. This audience has proven time and time again, it cannot interpret the most basic scenes logically, never mind moments that are actually up for interpretation. It didn't work in season one, it didn't work in season two. It just comes across as the writers room could not agree.
I think I speak for us all when I say cutting Black Aly, Sabitha, the Lads, Nettles etc. is heartbreaking.
At this point I’ve decided ; HOTD as an adaptation of the book is awful - it’s a bad adaptation, “unreliable narrator” or not. But as a stand alone show, it’s fine. Not outstanding, not terrible. Season one had is small issues, season two had some bigger ones, but I am hopeful that they will stick the landing. Season three will be the real test.

So a photographer named Jack Rosenberg posted a pic of M on his IG account. The pic from her IG profile pic. I’m assuming he took the pic because he commented in his IG it’s great capturing these moments together. What happened to Misan? Did he got markled? I bet it’s Jack who recorded M on the beach not Harry. What I also noticed every time M launches something an eventful tragedy overtakes her spotlight. Everyone is talking about what happened in New Orleans and the cybertruck that exploded in front of the Trump hotel. Early this morning there was a mass shooting at a club in Queens, NY. Everyone is talking about these events going on. On my IG account not that much is reporting about M’s comeback. M has been trying to gain attention since day one and nothing is working. I’m surprised she wasn’t at Gayle King’s surprise bday party. I thought Gayle, Oprah and M are besties. She didn’t get the invite? If this IG comeback fails what’s her next gig? A TikToker.
She just keeps trying. I will give her that….she is very persistent. She should give up! Thanks! Great post😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

sorry it’s Jake Rosenberg not Jack. 😂

Gayle Rankin on Alys Rivers
"I'm obsessed with her. I've always given the opportunity to play people who are pretty prophetic, which is cool, but it's a lot of pressure!" she says with a laugh. "She's so fucking cool."
"I want to really ground her and find her humanity [...] but she has a lot of power, too. [...] I don't think we've seen half of it yet, so that will be fun. "My particular storyline is quite, for the moment, contained. Contained, let's say—very wild, but contained."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm so happy for those words that Gayle has said about her role as Alys, now we can only hope that the writers make a good story for Alys, they can do it, we know very little about her, I wish and hope that they make a great story about her

pairing - dad!oscar piastri x mom!reader
summary - when Oscar and reader decides to bring their daughters to a race, they become the princess of the paddock
a/n - this will be aged up obviously, just another normal day 🤍 ah hem, here we go; Gayle (5), Niamh (3), Lola (1) also i have this idea of matching Owalas with the kids, i don’t know they’re so cuteeee
★ ☆ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“Three kids, three water bottles for hydration, three mini bags of their things and entertainment will be; well you know the race and the people.”
“Nice thinking mom,” Avery teases and elbows Y/n in the arm.
“Hey, all I want to do during a race day is relax and let Oscar watch the kids before the actual race begins. Also I just want to be a cool mom who has matching water bottles with her kids.” Y/n shrugs, taking a sip from her Owala.
The two watch as Gayle and Niamh run around Lando, laughing and talking with her. Lola toddles around with Oscar’s help, trying her best to catch up with her sisters.
Y/n and Avery stand in the sunlight with their sunglasses resting on their faces. Y/n holds her water in her hold while Avery has her arms folded.
“I don’t think I’ve ever told you how much I love the Brazil race. Lovely weather, well most of the time.” Avery shrugs with a smile on her and Y/n laughs.
“Just like every other race destination, unpredictable.” Y/n sighs and she laughs once again watching Lola fall down on her butt as she tries to run after Lando.
The toddler laughs and flailing her arms around energetically. Oscar chuckles as he helps her up and into his arms.
He swings her around and gently rocks her. The girls hover around their dad as they all try to grab his attention. Of course, he can’t help but divide his attention among the three and make all three of them giggle at one of his dad jokes.
Y/n sighs with a content smile on her face and leans against Avery’s shoulder.
“Makes you want to have one right? You know Jefferson is very ready, you’ve seen him with the girls.” Avery rolls her eyes and Y/n gently hits her hip against hers.
“Yes, because having a toddler who looks actually like Jefferson with his green eyes and black curls and pale skin running around while he’s gone in Paris for fashion week and there is a messy house is a great idea. And if I’m like you and end up having three kids because we can’t get rid of each other, then that’s kind of a lot. Three kids with dark green eyes and perfect black curls.” Avery hums and holds onto Y/n’s arm.
“Sounds like you already can see your kids, or you have baby fever.” Y/n teases and Avery shakes her head.
“Jefferson does, not me.”
“Sure, let’s check that out again in five years.
