Hiii have you watched Devilman Crybaby (2018)? If you haven't then I highly recommend it!! I even suggest you don't go look it up on the internet for the reviews or images online because chances are you'll get spoiled almost immediately— That is of course if you don't mind spoilers but I'd say the spoilers is very very heavy
I guess at most, maybe just the summary?? Their "Satan/Lucifer" is a very pretty boy and the story itself is amazingly gay and tragic <33 I just rewatched it and immediately thought of you and I'm sure you'd enjoy it ^^
Yes!!! I think it's pretty neat !!! My friend basically forced me to watch it and I thought it was fun. Definitely my favorite depiction of Satan of all time.
Funnily enough, I'm a huge fan of the 1987 OVA of Devilman! I actually like it more than the Crybaby version, though mostly because I don't really love when shows are updated from their original comic/manga.
Regardless, yes I like Devilman Crybaby! It's a bit sad though ! They should've had gay sex at the end
#great show but they shouldve have had gay sex before the world ended#I saw it back in 2018 so I don't remember much but I did always find that show and how it did queerness.. very interesting... I should look#I WILL say that I don't really like the manga#Not that I'm a big manga or comic guy because I actually really struggle to read them#But devilman is.... well it's something#mine#ask

the similarities between loustat and ryokira are honestly astounding and the fact that they're only a couple years apart in conception... primordial yaoi
#unfortunately devilman is something i only like in conception#i don't think it's ever been executed well#like the manga is cool for its time but actually enjoyable to read in the modern day? uh... not really#and unfortunately devilman crybaby despite being a great opportunity to improve upon that concept#was shit. sorry

Denji Hayakawa - "Half Your Melon Bread"
🐇.•°•.🐇.•°•.🐇.•°•.🐇.•°•.🐇.•°•.🐇.•°•.🐇.•°•.🐇.
In which a certain chainsaw devil man shares a sweet treat with a stranger at the park after shirking his devil hunting duties for the day. Or; In which you give Denji half of your melon bread out of sympathy poor hungry devil hunter boy. Part 2
🍞•♡•🥐•♡•🥖•♡•🫓•♡•🥨•♡•🥯•♡•🥞•♡•🧇
"Maaan, today was a long one"
Denji groaned out; stretching as he walked along the vacant street.
He had snuck off from Aki and Power not too long ago; ditching his assignment in favor of following a stray dog he'd spotted on the way. Unfortunately, he had lost sight of the dog soon after and now he was lost, wandering about the empty streets.
Just up ahead he spotted a park. It was one of those parks with a half playground; just a singular slide and a standard two-person swing set. There were also quite a few benches that littered the outer border and faced inward toward the playground.
But something caught Denji's eye or rather someone did. On a bench sat a lone person, a human, at least from what he could see at the distance he was standing from them.
Their back was turned to him, but he could see right off the bat that they had some kind of food given the way their arms and mouth were moving. From the ever-shrinking distance he found himself at, Denji believed it was a burger or something; he'd heard those were pretty damn good.
A nice, pillowy, sesame seed bun, melty cheese, crunchy pickles and onions, a thick juicy patty, and every condiment he could get his hands on... man, that sounds amazing right about now.
G U R G L E
Shit, now he was hungry.
Unfortunately due to ditching the blood-loving psycho and cock blocking top knot that were his partners, he had no money to buy food.
But the person on the bench had come to a stop next to his food... would they share with him? Or at least give him some money to buy his own? Probably not, but it's worth a try. So, the chainsaw devilman took a seat next to the stranger and simply glanced at their food from time to time, looking away every time they looked at him.
"Here."
The stranger softly spoke, catching the dirty blonde's attention.
In their hand was half of the packaged snack that they were previously holding; it looked like a bun but it was shiny with a criss-cross pattern on the top. Denji froze, not knowing how to respond; he didn't think he would get this far. Hell, he didn't even know what they were giving him.
"It's melon bread. I didn't poison it or anything; you saw it in the package already."
The stranger speaks again, this time standing up and holding the snack out the the devilman.
Hesitantly, Denji took it from their outstretched hand. He looked it over and lifted it to his nose, taking in it's fruity scent. Then he took a bite; and his mind was blown.
"I hope you enjoy it, you looked hungry. Well, see ya."
The stranger smiled at him gently, letting out a soft chuckle, before turning and walking away.
The dirty blonde-haired boy jumped a bit as he watched them walk away. Was it weird that he wanted them to stay here a bit longer? Should he tell them his name?
But, unfortunately for Denji, when he had finally made up his mind, the stranger was gone.

What other really dark and fucked up animes there are beside Devilman, Madoka Magica, The Promised Neverland (first season was so good and the manga was entertaining, although it did lose it's darkness) and Made in Abyss? Berzerk is still on my watch list for this very reason, and I need to watch Devilman Lady, but anything else?
I have no triggers and content warnings are more like invitations for me, so no need to worry if something is "too much" for me.
I'm looking for really messed stuff that no one would usually recommend for anyone. Not really any well-known stuff, well-known classics or Shonen Jump stuff where the messed up stuff is some psychological little mind game as a side note, or lots of blood (I'm fine with blood but a series being bloody is not messed up for me).
Webcomics are also welcomed! Like Korean web comic Papi Nyang.

Ping-Pong The Animation: eps 1-3
So Masaaki Yuasa [AN12, AN28, AN150] can do no wrong, right? OK, well, I'll admit Ride Your Wave was kinda mid, and Devilman Crybaby goes hard as hell at the beginning and end but sorta treads water in the middle, but... generally speaking! No-one does it like Yuasa.
For reasons I don't really remember, I didn't get very far watching Ping-Pong The Animation some years ago. It should be entirely my shit: Yuasa pulling in a gang of wildly creative animators to put their unique spin on something. However, the first episode didn't entirely hook me, and I never got round to trying the second before something else punted 'watching Ping Pong' out of my brain. ADHD, y'know.
This is a shame because even the very next episode seriously goes, as does the one after that. But also this anime isn't entirely what I was expecting (crazy sakugafest full of Yuasa weirdness). Not to say it doesn't do a lot of really unique stuff with its cinematography and animation, but these first episodes at least are more about like... dissociation! ennui!
But more on that in a mo. First I wanna continue the thread of 'how do you animate sports'.
So, ping-pong, or table tennis. Not a sport I know much about, I'll be honest. (To be fair I don't know a lot about sports in general outside of some very specific niches. The sports I've pursued so far are rather eclectic: swimming, fencing, tai chi chuan, and roller derby; I never got particularly far in any and it's been years since I've done them.)
I'll inevitably be drawing a lot of comparisons to The First Slam Dunk, the other sports anime I've watched recently. I do think it's a productive comparison though! Both of them bring something of the visual language of manga into their presentation in unique ways. I have not yet read the Ping Pong manga, but it's by Taiyō Matsumoto, otherwise known for scifi manga like Tekkonkinkreet (god tier movie, still need to read the manga) and Number Five. So that's a pretty impressive track record!
If you go take a look at some scans of Ping Pong, what will immediately jump out is the shaky, rough line style and unusual camera angles and compositions.
The stylisation is also very different from a lot of manga. Noses are fully drawn, eyes are realistically small, and in contrast, lips and mouths tend to get the emphasis - as well as hands.
Knowing this makes a lot of the creative choices in the anime make sense! It also adopts a shaky lineart style, and makes use of heavy line weights and spotting blacks to add definition. It also has a lot of crazy closeups and layouts, and it loves a visual metaphor. But most of all, the most striking element of this anime is how often it loves to split the picture up into little panels...
...which [eli]'s subs do a really good job of typesetting, incidentally, moving the dialogue to fit naturally into the split composition. And while this shot with 7 smaller shots is perhaps on the extreme end, splits of three or more are pretty frequent. It's a really interesting way to evoke the effect of seeing a whole page of manga
So, as you proooobably know, ping-pong is a game of bouncing balls off a little table and directing them into places the opponent will find it hard to hit them back. From watching this anime I picked up that there are a number of styles of holding the racket (e.g. 'penhold grip' and 'shakehand') and approaches to hitting the ball (e.g. 'chopping'). A lot of this pretty much went over my head, but honestly it didn't matter, since the narrative significance was pretty much always evident.
Compared to basketball, though, ping-pong is a pretty tricky sport to make visually interesting! Sure, you have the players running to and fro, and that can lead to some interesting poses, but how do you get the drama and tension into this?
Ping-pong additionally is all 2D, it doesn't have the sort of resources that Toei could throw at making the best looking 3DCG basketball game ever. It is limited to a TV-feasible drawing count. So it has to make use of clever limited-animation tricks to get the most impact out of fewest drawings.
Let's take an example sequence from episode 3. A minor character is about to get his ass kicked by Tsukimoto. Tsukimoto is something of a pingpong prodigy, and yet he is very emotionally closed-off and even standoffish; he doesn't particularly seem to like the game very much, and doesn't particularly feel inclined to flex on other players and get into the status games. But other players, like Wenge, have heard about him and want to see what he's got.
First we have the setup. Other characters are observing and discussing the game. Since ping-pong tends to involve very rapid exchanges, it can follow the classic shōnen model where there's a lot of talking, flashy fight sequence, more talking...
The cut happens in two steps, maintaining the vertical dividing line. This approach to cutting is used a lot in Ping-Pong, and it's quite a creative way to keep visual interest when it's using a lot of largely static shots. The panel on the right is more animated than the panel on the left, a naturalistic depiction of bouncing the ball off the table.
Things start moving faster here. A rapid pan on the image on the left disguises the fact that this anticipation pose is actually not moving at all. This then goes into a rapid, explosive moment as this guy serves.
The final pose is held for a couple of seconds while the voiceover line discussing his intended move finishes. This sort of elasticity of time is a very Osamu Dezaki type of move - it's something that Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata actually really disliked.
A sound effect hits as Tsukimoto appears on the right in silhouette, anticipating his reaction, and setting up the next shot which leaves the split picture and hides the background for just a moment, as if to put us in Tsukimoto's shoes: he only sees the ball.
Tsukimoto follows through and holds this pose - the ball is the only thing moving here. The ball moves mainly on 2s while Tsukimoto moves on 3s and 2s, and he and the ball move on alternating frames. He holds the pose as the ball zips off to the right (bouncing off the corner of the table), with a speed lines-like effect. At the end of the shot, the ball freezes in the air for the moment while the sound echoes.
The actual table-tennis round lasts just seconds, and the drawing count involved is pretty minimal, but it does a lot with those drawings.
We go back to voiceovers and reactions in the next few shots, returning to the split video as Tsukimoto's opponent thinks about how he'd really rather be at the beach...
Often, these comic-like compositions will change one panel at a time, and while one panel is animated another panel will be still, naturally moving your eyes across the screen. It is an approach similar to some experiments I've seen in 'animated comics' viewed in a web browser, where the panels do not appear all at once, but enter with some animation.
So this is the sort of animation technique that Ping Pong uses. It's effective! Elsewhere the cuts are used in a less direct, continuity-editing way and more in a juxtaposition/montage way. For example, Wenge's desire to return to China is symbolised by match cutting/fading to shots of an aeroplane.
And there is a recurring image, which I'm sure will be expanded on, of Tsukimoto hiding in a cupboard and wishing for a tokusatsu hero to come save him from his isolation. As Tsukimoto's feelings about himself change, the toku hero is replaced by a robot. At this points it starts to feel like an outright Ikuhara anime.
There is occasionally a little bit of CG, mainly when Tsukimoto uses a different type of racket surface, and the way the ball and racket make contact is the crucial thing that the shot is trying to convey...
It gets the job done, but I'm glad they stuck with 2D for most of it.
So I went in the first time expecting like, crazy elaborate sakuga - and to be fair, the OP, animated by none other than Shinya Ohira, delivers on that front - but if anything what I've seen so far in Ping-Pong is actually a triumph of storyboarding and limited animation techniques. I think back then I didn't have the eyes to appreciate it in the same way.
OK, that's the film nerd stuff, but what about the story? Ping Pong follows two school friends, Makoto Tsukimoto aka "Smile" (right), and Yutaka Hoshino aka "Peco" (left). Smile is defined by a flat affect and a standoffish persona. He's just going through the motions. He's very good at ping-pong, but to him it's just a way to pass time, and he's scornful about the idea of caring all that much about it. Much like Shinji with his casette player, Tsukimoto is pretty much always staring at a handheld games console rather than make eye contact with anyone.
Peco on the other hand is the more childish one - playful, kinda arrogant, very much an 'emotions on his sleeve' kinda guy. He sulks when he loses and gloats when he wins, and is constantly seen with bubblegum or other kinds of candy. He provides a lot of our commentary when he chats with the other players.
日本語上手 readers probably noticed the tsuki (moon) vs hoshi (star) symbolism thing they've got going on here!
High-school table tennis in this story seems to be a rather 'tough love' kinda world. Most of these players tend to look down on those who can't meet their level. Going easy on someone is seen as weakness, or cultivating bad habits, by almost everyone. Tsukimoto doesn't play at his full potential because he isn't as invested in winning as all these weirdos, but it seems that might be starting to change...
The coach is interesting. He's an old man and fairly disdainful of the club at large, and prone to speaking English randomly with a heavy accent. But he gets excited at the prospect of getting Tsukimoto to unleash his full potential, in terms that are repeatedly metaphorically compared to romance/marriage.
And when Tsukimoto gets sick of it, he challenges him to a game, with the stakes as...
Cue Makima/Beatrice images here I guess.
Tsukimoto de facto wins when the coach collapses, but this episode marks a change of heart. He starts to think of himself as a robot - the affect of a robot replacing the affect of the toku hero in his fantasy. And in this way he does what people seem to want and plays ping pong with mechanical precision, expressed once again in visual metaphor (shot here from a cool transformation sequence)...
What if I just dissociate harder? This is gonna end well.
So it really is one of those kind of like 'ennui of being a teenager' kind of stories - c.f. say FLCL. 'Boy with complicated emotional landscape' is Yuasa bread and butter, but the particular variant here seems a little unusual for him - they tend to be a little more earnest. I'm curious to see how Tsukimoto develops.
I am definitely enjoying the arrogant Chinese player Kong Wenge. Dude's got a lot of screen presence, and while I'm sure he'll get shown up sooner or later, he makes for a very fun antagonist of sorts.
In comparison to Slam Dunk... one thing that's significantly different about table tennis is that it's an individual rather than a team sport, which means it's harder to have an ensemble cast all contributing to the protagonists' eventual victory - instead it's about a lot of individual arcs interweaving with each other, individual duels. Besides that, it does seem like it will be following a similar arc of a character in an emotional hole (grief for Ryota, depression for Tsukimoto) finding new meaning and purpose through sports - though I can't be sure how things are gonna go for Tsukimoto here!
The tone however is quite different. Even when it's silly, I feel like Slam Dunk is a very sincere story. There's little detachment or irony, or false consciousness - with perhaps the major exception of Ryota's mother, who lets her own grief and trauma get in the way of understanding her son. But ultimately 'why would you care this much about basketball' is not a question that anyone would ask in Slam Dunk. Even the judo guy in the manga who's trying to recruit Sakuragi is just as hot-blooded about his own sport of choice.
There's a difference in like, general affect about the players as well, which has something to do with the sport itself. Yeah, Sakuragi's superpower is his 'genius' ability to predict rebounds, and there is plenty of strategising in Slam Dunk - but basketball is still a sport that very much emphasises physical power, and as much as Slam Dunk will work hard to sell you on a clever trick pass, the visuals are also emphasising the speed that players are dashing, the height they're jumping, their physique. Table tennis by contrast seems to be a sport that's more about prediction and mind games.
That said it is equally just like Matsumoto's style being different from Inoue's. Now I know it's by the guy who wrote Tekkonkinkreet, a lot about this series falls into place! There's a sense of tension here, of being fundamentally at odds with the world. The autismfeels. This is reflected also in the drawings - the characters don't entirely seem comfortable in their embodiment.
So if that's what I'm getting from just three eps, I'm very excited to see what the remaining 8 have to offer. This series is probably too long to cram into Animation Night format, but we'll see...

❥• sounds from the bedroom [18+ only]
⇢ devilman crybaby edition
what akira + ryo sound like in bed with you
AKIRA FUDO
“Fuck, fuck, fuck—shit!”
Lots of snarls and grunts, cursing. Akira sounds downright animalistic in the bedroom, that if you’re passing by unaware, you’d be hard-pressed to believe that’s a human making those sounds…
If his orgasm is particularly strong, he’ll roar too. It’s hard to keep him quiet. Investing in a gag for him might be a smart idea.
There are moments where the old Akira appears. Sometimes he’s sweet and hesitant, asking if this feels okay, if you need something—water, a break, or a pillow under your back. But other times he’s full on feral. Filthy-mouthed, he holds nothing back, describing in detail what you feel like clenching around his cock, how just the thought of being buried inside you has made him hard all day, how badly he wants to fuck you until his name is all you can remember to say, etc.
“I know you’ve been wanting this. Don’t deny it. You’re practically squirming under my tongue. Ah—shit, was that too much?”
Also the sounds of your coupling. Akira definitely, ahem, can make anything slick with just how much he cums. The smack of his hips against your ass, the loud, lewd squelch of each thrust of his cock displacing his cum inside you.
He’s also much more likely to confess while his cock is buried inside you. It might be strange, but for Akira, ravenous lust goes hand-in-hand with deep, adoring love.
“Fuck—I think I—I really—l-love you...!”
But afterwards, he kind of needs that reassurance that you feel the same. Like he’s just accidentally bared his heart to you. He needs to know if it’s reciprocated.
(“Hey, about what I said. Yeah. Just ignore... oh. You feel the same? That—that’s great! That makes me so… happy.)
But back to horny. Akira does horny so well.
“You’re so tight. It’s like your pussy was made for me.”
He has lots of fantasies surrounding you, and he’s not afraid to describe them in explicit detail. Voicing them aloud is a big part of foreplay for him.
“Heh... don’t tell me you’re done already. I’ve been waiting so longto do this...”
“Gonna... fucking... c-cum!”
“You look so cute with my cock in your mouth. but you know what would look even cuter on you?” His voice lowers. “My cum overflowing from your mouth.”
He’s also prone to saying dirty things while jerking off, especially if he knows he has an audience. If it’s just him, alone, he’ll curse and grunt, calling out your name every now and then as his hand works furiously over his length. His groans of your name progressively getting louder until he shouts it, pleasure wracking his body. But if you’re watching? Oh, he puts on a show. He’s cockier, more intentional with his hands drifting down his body before he grasps himself. He describes, hoarsely, how badly he wants it to be your mouth instead of his hand, how he’s hard and aching and ready to be enveloped in your tight, wet heat—
“Fuck... you know just what I like...! You’re too much, I’m gonna finish—”
Post-coital, Akira gets kind of quiet. He likes to bask in the moment, in the intimacy of it all. He prefers physical contact, so he speaks more with his actions, drawing you close to him, playing with your hair, listening to you ramble with the softest look on his face.
(But also—snoring. He snores so damn loud. Sex takes a lot out of him.)
RYO ASUKA
Ryo is quiet. When he’s jerking it, he barely makes a sound. He sees it as a form of release, so he doesn’t bother taking his time. Soft exhales, the most sound he makes is sigh once he finishes.
“I know you’re watching me. Why don’t you come in if you’re so curious.”
He has a detached manner of speaking that continues into the bedroom. It can be incredibly arousing if you’re into degradation or aloof partners. The way his voice never wavers, never giving a hint as to if he’s enjoying things, even while his cock is buried in the tight heat of your throat, can be a turn-on.
If anything, he’s more curious about what noises he can get youto make. He makes it his personal mission to document every kind of sound you can make.
“Oh that? I bought it online. It has good reviews and several interesting features. I’d like to observe how it works on you.”
Expect lots of toys. Vibrators, dildos, fuck machines, etc. There’s always some interesting noises coming from his bedroom, like buzzing, or the sound of machinery at work, mingled with your cries. Akira has learned the hard way not to go snooping behind Ryo’s closed doors.
Ryo’s not into sexting. He knows there’s appeal behind naughty pictures and messages, but he doesn’t care for them. If you really want him to get dirty talking, it has to be over phone. He likes being able to pick apart your reactions.
“I did like that picture you sent me. But I’d prefer to see it up close. Come over in five. I think it would be to both our benefits.”
His aloofness can somehow make anything sound like a dirty promise. It leaves you in a state of constant anticipation, wondering just when Ryo is going to make good on his promise.
Video sex though. Ryo finds something appealing about the way the technology can add a layer of distance, and he can be more of an observer. He likes to command you, in his calm and measured tone, to strip for him, to spread your legs for him, and touch yourself the way he would. Sometimes when he’s too busy with work, he’ll multitask; if he hears your cries of pleasure stop, even for a second, he’ll turn his attention away from his work to ask why you’re holding back on him.
“I didn’t tell you to stop, did I? Keep going. I’m not done with work yet, but rest assured—when I am, you’ll have my undivided attention.”
Professor/student roleplay. Ryo is very good at making you feel like his hopelessly incompetent student. The way his eyes coolly glance over you, before dismissing you as not even worth his time. He also is good at making you work for it.
“You call this an essay? Pathetic. Your grades are dismal. You’ll have to do some extra credit assignments for me after class. Oh, and don’t wear anything to them. You won’t need your clothes.”
The only way to really get him to lose it and be vocal is to take control from him. Ryo isn’t expecting it, and he sure as hell doesn’t like it, at all, but there are moments—maybe Akira’s rejected him for Miki again, and despite his posturing, he actually does feel shunned and lonely—that maybe he’ll let you dominate him. The way his orgasm rushes over him in a flurry is a surefire way to get him to choke out a groan, his face aflush, eyes wide. Ryo… still doesn’t appreciate bottoming, but perhaps he’ll allow you the opportunity to try it. One more time.
“Wait. Don’t—Don’t stop. I… I didn’t think it would feel like this. Keep going. U-Until I say you can stop.”

Hey guys it’s me your favorite hazbin slop critic with more slop takes.
Something that has been bothering me lately, like badly is Lucifer in general. From his design, his status to his writing.
A lot of other smarter bloggers have already talked about Viv’s problems with daddy issue characters and making them sympathetic, so I won’t really discuss Lucifer’s writing in that regard as I don’t think I can add much.
I’m also aware some critics like Lucifer, as well as fans and to that I say, good for you! Like genuinely, if you like Lucifer from hazbin hotel, there’s nothing wrong with that! ( i literally like sir Pentious and he barely has any real screen time episodes or development so I cannot speak.)
Okay, rant from here on.
Vivziepop is so bad at religious imagery it is laughable. Lucifer’s theme of the garden of Eden and ringmaster of a circus sound good but she fails to mesh them together. I lowkey thought the snake on his hat was a worm. His design is the generic sexy man copy paste top hat bow and or tie and suit with weirdly shaped feet. Canes may or may not be included.
Lucifer doesn’t feel like Lucifer at all. I sort of understand what she was going for by making him a guy failure, but I feel like compared to other works with a similar episode count, cough DEVILMAN CRYBABY cough, she fails to accurately capture the intrigue and allure of Lucifer through his said persona and design.
While we’re talking about persona and design, Devilman crybaby’s Satan, Ryo, is so excellent. From the writing, the clash of ideals, the reveal to the final form and fight, it’s perfect. Satan and Lucifer are things I feel people cannot accurately capture in works, because while Jesus is a perfect human, Satan and Lucifer go beyond anything human as they are pure evil and, light.
So it’s really fucking embarrassing when a character who is also Lucifer has a similar arc ( clash of ideals, final form, fight ) and fails in every single way.
I understand that hazbin hotel obviously is a lighter show, that Lucifer isn’t trying to be the MAIN big evil nor is he, from the protagonists perspective, the villian, but for the ruler of hell, the light bringer and enemy of heaven … he doesn’t really size up and he’s another generic Vivziepop character in a pile of them.
To wrap this up, it’s just very disappointing. As someone who is very hyperfixated on demonology and the literature and philosophy of Lucifer, Viv fails to recreate an ounce of intelligence or thought that goes into writing a being of horror and evil.
Better Lucifer’s imo: Devilman crybaby, paradise lost (shocker guys ong who knew I’d reccomend it ) Sandman, and hot take but CSM public safety arc ( I could make an argument on how makima represents Lucifer but that’s another post sometime soon.)

scott pilgrim takes off is really, really lovely. it’s not all the time you can innately sense that a piece of media is made with love, but this show exudes it in every way. short of trigger, i can’t think of an anime studio that could’ve done a better job than the motherfuckers who made devilman crybaby
it’s not a straight retelling of the graphic novels. if anything, it’s like the eva rebuilds; it takes a hard turn where you don’t expect it and becomes something entirely new that builds on and interrogates the source material. i think this was the right decision; bryan lee o’malley was apparently only interested in doing it the “right way” if his work ever got another adaptation, and this feels like something kind of personal.
it’s been well over a decade since i read the scott pilgrim series, so i forget a lot of the details, but i do have vague recollections of it displaying a kind of stunted view of relationships and people’s pasts. i think a lot of this show was o’malley grappling with not only that, but also the fact that he made a bunch of money off of it and brought a genuinely lovable characters into people’s lives while still maybe having the wrong idea.
but this isn’t a revisionist apology or a boilerplate “it’s about trauma” rereading of an older work, it’s a love letter to a flawed work that takes efforts to make up for its faults. a friend called it a transformative work, and i couldn’t agree more. this is what scott pilgrim always could’ve been.
required viewing if you liked the books, the movie, and/or even the game, even a little

Can you write the DMC boys with the reader having a date night by flying around the city with their devil trigger forms?
Just got inspiration from the scene in Across the Spiderverse where Miles and Gwen swing around the city catching up with each other : https://youtu.be/PPHxyyubleg?si=up2SBl2bQNFrqkfm
Maybe they got bored then the reader decide “Hey why don’t we fly around the city at night?” but the boys just laughed, stating that she can’t fly ( that is before knowing she can devil trigger and she is a devil herself ) so she’s like….
Reader: Bet you didn’t know I can do this *cue jumping off the roof of the shop*
They obviously panic as they try to look down from upon, hoping she does not flat out die just to find out she’s standing stick to the wall of the building while in her Devil Trigger
Reader: You wanna come with me, handsome?
And that lead to a whole date night scenario and them perching on the side of a building, hanging upside down talking about each other’s commotion, what’s been weighing them down recently and overall heartfelt conversations to vent their feelings out
———————————————————————————
P/S: If u don’t mind, the Reader’s devil trigger is similar to Sirene from Devilman because I can’t get enough of her design
Ok, here you go!
Sparda boys + V x Reader DT!Date headcannons
¤ Dante ¤
-You and Dante were just hanging out in the city, walking around, seeing the sights and climbing on old buildings for no particular reason.
-It was fun, for a time, but you guys got bored pretty soon, and as you sat around wondering what you should do, an idea popped into your head.
-"Let's fly around for a while," You told him; Dante simply laughed. "You can't fly," He replied, still chuckling. "You're no devil."
-Snickering, you decided to prove him wrong by diving off the building you guys were sitting atop, laughing and whooping wildly.
-Dante was beyond surprised to see you do something so recklessly, and thinking you expected him to catch you, Triggered immediately and looked over the edge, thinking it might already be too late.
-Thank God, you were alright, hovering just a few inches away from the side of the building. Giggling, you held out your hand, which he took, his fears now evaporating.
-You guys flew around the city for a while, joking, teasing, playfully fighting and laughing the entire time. 10/10, he would do it again.
■ Vergil ■
-You and Vergil were just walking around, wandering the rock countryside aimlessly.
-Then you had the bright idea to suddenly launch yourself off of one of the nearby cliffs, a huge grin on your face the entire time.
-Vergil mentally panicked and Triggered immediately, wondering just what the hell would possess you to do such a thing.
-To his surprise, you were perfectly fine! You'd Triggered and were now flying around in circles, whooping and laughing. You caught sight of him staring at you like you were a ghost and brightly offered your hand out to him. "Come on, handsome!"
-Vergil took a minute to let his heart rate go back down, then let out a little half cough half chuckle. "Alright then." He mumbled, Triggering as well and hurrying to join you.
-You guys flew around for a bit before settling on an even higher cliff to talk, venting out your stress to one another and generally chatting about your lives.
-It was a rare moment of peace that Vergil rarely gets to experience with you. He wishes he could spend more nights like these with you.
□ Nero □
-You and Nero were goofing around in the city, playing a game of high stakes tag where you leaped from building to building.
-It was upon one of thse buildings where you began to grow rather bored, so you decided to spice up life by throwing yourself off the roof.
-Nero wasn't sure what the saw was real for a minute, thinking he just imagined that. A second or two passed before he realized that you really had done that--you did just jump off a building, presumably to your death.
-Nero's pseudo devil trigger activated immediately, and he rocketed after you, only to find you alive and well, floating around, waiting for him, it seemed.
-He was overwhelmed with this new information, discovering his girlfriend was a demon was truly jarring, so was learning she could fly.
-Of course he had to go with you once you offered your hand to him, because come on, who wouldn't?
-You and Nero had the time of your lives flying around and chatting amongst yourselves. It was an experience like no other, one Nero wishes to repeat sometime.
● V ●
-You and V happened to be sitting together atop a tall precipice, not really doing much of anything.
-You were in the middle of wondering what you should do, when an idea hit you. You would reveal the truth about yourself right now.
-Without a word, you tossed yourself off the cliff, presumably falling to your death. V let out a tiny little squeak of fear upon seeing you do this, and immediately had Griffon fly him out to see what became of you.
-Thankfully, you were alive, just flying around, waiting for him to join you. This was extremely frightening for V; he didn't expect to discover his girlfriend was a winged demon today, but here he was.
-Ah well, appearances don't matter to V, (Griffon begs to differ) so he readily joined you.
-You guys had a lot of fun soaring through the skies together and would have readily spent the whole night doing that, but Griffon got tired, forcing you guys to find a place to land.
-There, you guys chatted about your lives, kissed, hugged, cuddled, and watched the stars like the lovebirds you were. How adorable.

So, I'm not into any specific ships. No hate to any shippers, anyone can ship whoever they want. But, I can't help but notice that BNHA for the last 20- 25 chapters really focused on BKDK. Like, is the mangaka really want to focused only on Midoriya and Bakugou's relationship? Sorry if I'm wrong. Kinda like, until the end, all that Naruto think about only Sasuke, right? What do you think?
⚠️(This post isn't safe for bkdk shippers proceed with caution)⚠️
Iam not sure what horikoshi himself plans to do with BKDK and if he really wants to make it canon. I sometimes doubt that horikoshi would actually do it (I honestly don't want him to make it canon) but it's a possibility at this point.
It makes sense that BKDK would be promoted a lot in the manga especially now because of what majority of the fanbase likes. I guess what Iam trying to say is that majority of the fanbase likes and hypes up BKDK. Heck have you seen some bk stans who would see like one panel of bk and that's all they would talk about in the chapter instead of actually understanding the stuff thats going on. Now this obviously doesn't apply to every bk or BKDK fans but it applies to a lot of them.
I kinda of get where you're coming from when you say that BKDK and Sasunaru are similar but I believe that they aren't in the way they're written. To me Sasunaru has better development and build up but that isn't to say that it's also heavily flawed and the Naruto ending + war arc was horribly written. A lot of the time Naruto's character is lacking (and thats something that a lot of Naruto blogs have rightfully pointed out) so whenever he would talk and it would be about sasuke it may feel like thats the only thing he talks about without him developing as a character learning about his clan, the corruption in the system and what it actually means to be hokage.
I feel like when it comes to BKDK the reason it gets so much attention from hori is because he himself focuses on it to please the fans whereas with sasunaru it's a bit complicated because sure it's somewhat well written (honestly it could use a lot of work with both characters especially naruto), has a large fanbase (as far as iam aware) but i dont think you can hse the reason of "kishi simply wrote them to please fans and he was never gonna make them canon".
Don't quote me on this but I remember hearing that apparently Naruto and sasukes dynamic was written and somewhat inspired by some BL manga like devilman crybaby so I see where the queer coding of that relationship comes from.
#mha#naruto#kishimoto#horikoshi#i dont know how to tag this#anti bkdk#anti bakugou katsuki#anti bakudeku#anti bakugo katsuki#honestly i dont often hate on ships but i hate bkdk#maybe it just the fans and my own bias#naruto is flawed#sasunaru could of worked#anon ask#thanks for the ask!

Zero Sum
And soon it will be all said and done And we will all be back together as one If we will continue at all
----------
The aftermath of Akira and Satan's war, with a certain gloomy angel witnessing from an outsider viewpoint.
(Inspired by the song of the same name by Nine Inch Nails)
Sooo…It definitely has been a while. (Even more so considering I've barely posted about my Undertale Devilman fanfic here...Oops)
UH BUT ANYWAY! What started off with me saying the Year Zero album fit TOO well with Devilman evolved into me writing something very self-indulgent.
Sooo yeah, hope you guys like the angst. (Also, Azrael appears here, too, so that be a small treat as well).

You totally should watch the Masaki Yuasa movies!
A couple of months ago, I did this thing where I watched a couple of anime movies, that had gone under my radar. Because let's face it: Outside of franchise related anime movies, we will mostly be aware of Studio Ghibli, Makoto Shinkai and Mamoru Hosoda. Other anime movies will often not be talked about in western anime spaces.
So, I consulted AniChart and just went through all sorts of anime movies, that were barely talked about.
The first of those was Ride Your Wave. And as @udaberriwrites, who got my life reaction, can tell you: This movie went places. It was one of the rare examples where there was a straight romance in an anime movie that I totally could get behind. A romance I found romantic. (Maybe not that much of a surprise, given the screenplay was bei Reiko Yoshida, who... just was a big influence on me. I loved so much of her stuff as a kid.) And then I looked at the timestamp of the movie. 25 minutes out of 96. And I went like: "One of them is gonna die, right?" And yes, I was right. So, I thought it was going to be a movie about moving on after loosing a loved person. Maybe about finding new love. But... Let me tell you, that was not were this movie went. Instead it just went on to be off the walls bonkers.
I am not going to spoil the movie for you. Just believe me: It is bonkers. And it is amazing. Really, really amazing.
Now, the next movie on my watchlist was Inu-Oh. A movie in a really weird animation style that originally turned me off. But that had such compelling characters and in the end really alive animation, that it kinda just captured me.
Again, I do not want to spoil the movie to you. But it was certainly something.
Well, and then I realized that those two movies, that I just happened to watch one after the other had been made by the same director: Masaaki Yuasa.
Now I was intrigued and just put in the other movies by him over the next few days. One of them I had seen before: The Night is Short, Walk On Girl.
And watching all those movies back, I could make out several things that tied them together. Mostly in terms of animation.
The characters are often very simplified, but the animation is very alive - actually following those old methods of animation, that would allow for characters to be off-model to show action. There is little in terms of shadows.
The characters are so lively. And it is just... nice to watch.
So, really. Watch the man's movies and anime. He also had done Devilman Crybaby, by the way. It is most certainly something else. Especially his movies.
The movies are:
The Night is Short, Walk on Girl Lu Over the Wall Ride your Wave Japan Sinks: 2020 Inu-Oh
Have fun!

invincible and spiderverse aren’t “kid shows.” do you see 2d animation and assume it’s a kids cartoon?
No, I just straight-up did not know what Invincible was until I googled it just now, I just assumed that it was because the rest of the shows on the post were a.) for children and b.) Tumblr famously has a really bad habit of only watching shows for kids and then getting mad about how there's either no nuance in them (like Steven Universe discourse), or mad because the adult shows they DO watch are 'problematic' in nature. So OP showing more complex female characters from kid's shows and then saying Tumblr couldn't handle them would track pretty well with its track record of its users saying they want badass complex female characters and then throwing a tantrum when they actually show up on screen.
Into the Spiderverse is still something that I would consider for kids tho, bc its only rated at PG. That doesn't mean that adults can't watch or enjoy it or that it's any lesser for it, but it's still a movie aimed primarily at older kids/young teens. So yeah, kid's cartoon. Not really sure why you're being so hostile about it being labeled as such, bc there's nothing wrong with enjoying kid's animation- the issue inherent to people on Tumblr only liking shows catered to 10-13 year olds is that it ends up creating people whose literary analysis skills never develop past that age range. Which is what I was making a jab at.
(I find this ask kind of ironic considering the fact that the very few things I watch that aren't nature documentaries are all 2D animation, it's just that my tastes are solidly on the Devilman Crybaby/Castlevania spectrum so I rarely dabble in the shit that Tumblr usually loves. I don't really get into live action stuff because I have a chronically bad time with eye contact and faceblindness, so like, all of the shit I enjoy is either 2D or 3D animation. I'm not one of those idiots who associates it exclusively with kid's shows, rather I associate Tumblr fandoms exclusively with kid's shows)
#anon#reply#like i dont think that enjoying kids shows is a crime but i dont see the point of claiming that a pg movie isn't also catered to kids#that's still an all-ages movie imo#what IS a crime is only watching kid's shows so your ability to handle morally complex characters stops at fucking steven universe

Akira, Curiosity
"The s/o has a very religious family, so after finding out Akira is a devilman the reader gets really scared and cautious but at the same time really curious and wants to know more about his devilman form and how the whole devilman thing works - v - You don't have to though, and thank you! ^^"
Words: 787
The sunset was always so beautiful reflecting off the water. The boardwalk was your favorite place to go after church. You found the water more relaxing than church somehow, and it made you feel conflicted. Wasn't the church supposed to be the most calming thing in your life? As you questioned yourself and your beliefs, you came closer to the boardwalk. As you approached, you noticed someone else sitting by the water. He looked familiar.. Looking on for a minute, you realized it was Akira. You went to school with him. Everyone had noticed the sudden change in his appearance, it was all anyone talked about, especially all the girls. There was a rumor that he had made a 'deal with the devil' of a sort and that was the origin of why he seemed so different. Despite being a little bit afraid, you felt your curiosity getting the better of you. Walking down toward the end of the boardwalk where he was sitting, he heard you from behind him and turned his head around to look at you.
"Oh, hey.." He said, giving you a slight smile. "We go to school together, right? I've seen you around before." He scooted over, patting the wood beside of him. How was he this nice if he had supposedly been making deals with devils? It didn't make any sense to you. You walked close to him, sitting down. You took off your shoes, letting your feet down into the cool water and sighing.
"Nice to actually meet you." You said. "I was.. curious about you." He put his arm on his knee, still looking out toward the water.
"Curious? About what?" He half laughed at you, like he couldn't believe you would be interested in anything about him.
"You." You stated, plainly. "I've heard a lot about you." You let your feet move back and forth in the cool water, enjoying the sensation.
"Like what? That I'm dealing with the devil?" He grinned.
"Well, yeah. That." He seemed far too nice to have anything to do with a devil. Even so, the way he grinned made you feel a little bit anxious. You tried your best to ignore it.
"You just came from the church up there, didn't you? Aren't you afraid of me?" You shrugged your shoulders at him, doing your best to hide it.
"No, not really. You seem nice. I don't see how you could have anything to do with the devil." You played with the hem of your dress with your fingers, looking down at your lap.
"You're brave for a church girl. I do have something to do with the devil. Maybe you should be afraid of me." He let his head fall, and it looked as if he was going to cry. His eyes filled with tears, but they didn't fall. Something was really off about him. You placed your hand gently on his arm, doing your best to comfort him.
"You are a kind person, I can sense it. I know you are. Despite anything else." You said, trying to let him know that he's not alone if he feels that he is fighting a losing battle with some inner demons. He looked at you, giving you a genuine smile through his tear filled eyes.
"You're real nice. Thanks." He wiped the tears from his eyes. "Sorry, we barely know each other. I shouldn't be saying this stuff to you." He stood up, as if he was getting ready to leave.
"I wanna know more about this whole 'devil' thing you believe you have going on." You looked to the sunset, seeing the sky turn a light purple color as the sun was fading below the skyline. "I wanna help, if I can. Religion or not. Something tells me you're deeply troubled." He didn't speak for a minute, and you gave him the time to gather his thoughts and think about what he wanted to say next.
"I am.. but I don't think there's anything you can do to help." He shrugged his shoulders.
"Will talking help at all? I'll be here to listen, if you need it, Akira. Sometimes that's all someone needs." He smiled, putting his hands in his pockets.
"Sure.. I'll come back tomorrow?" He said, you nodding your head in response to let him know that you would come back as well. "Okay.. but you should probably start heading home. It gets dangerous around here at night."
"How do you know that?" You questioned, pulling your feet out of the water and air drying them by swinging them around a little bit. You stood up, putting your shoes back on.
"The devil isn't just in hell, you know."

Tekken 8 - Anti Reina Mishima Stamp(Rant) Huge Tekken 8 Spoilers!
This is gonna piss off Reina fans, but just a friendly reminder..... this is my opinion. If you love her, go on a page that praises her. You won't get it here. Alright here goes.
I was playing Tekken 8 at my friend's house. It was a fun time, and the story has improved from Tekken 7 (with the bland, monotone narrator gone, thank god) and..... Tekken 6 (ugh!) but has a few flaws.
The biggest flaw which almost ruined Tekken 8 for me, was this character, called Reina Mishima.
This is without a doubt, one of the most poorly written female characters I have ever seen in my entire life.
You mean to tell me that Lucky Chloe gets shit from Tekken fans, but Reina Mishima gets a free pass? WTF? I mean I am not a fan of Lucky Chloe (ok her character design is cute, but she is abusive AF to Eddie T.T) but at least she wasn't a forced and contrived, plot device character like Reina, and is just a dumb troll character from the creator, as a middle finger to their haters that really hated her guts.
Like you think Rey from Star Wars, Disney Remake Mulan, Bella Swan, or Captain Marvel were bad?
Well, that is nothing comparred to this DeviantArt OC, Mary-Sue reject.
So Reina is the daughter of Heihachi Mishima. (Oh, so we are doing the Lars Alexandersson plot-twist, from Tekken 6 again, in 2024... aka lazy, repetitive writing for Tekken 8 when it comes to introducing new characters... got it 👍)
My issues with her that makes her a poorly written character is that:
-She is a flawless fighter, like Disney remake's Mulan bad. I know she is suppose to have flawless fighting moves like Heihachi, but good god, this is just embarrasing.
Edit: Ok, I understand that it is a fighting game, and the Mishima's are suppose to be powerful, badass fighters, so Reina should be no exception. Fair enough. I still think she is a self-insert character because she was just thrown into the story, with no buildup or references from previous games (Same issue I had with Lars in Tekken 6 btw, he just exists to replace Jin as a MC, and they made him a Mishima to make him more relavant, instead of him just standing out on his own as a character. I don't hate Lars btw, he has a cool character design, but the hair is riduclous, and I felt indifferent towards him at first, but now I kinda see him as a potential father figure to Jin in Tekken 8.)
-She is trying too hard to be a hardcore, edgy, tomboy, cool-looking version of Asuka, so I will call her the poor man's Asuka Kazama.
-Her character design and oufit is uninspired and too modern for my liking (Black boots, black short-shorts and A black and purple hoddie, huh.... how creative... -_-) oh and short black hair and purple streaks to add to the edgy, tomboy look. (Or the Karen look as I like to call it ^^)
-She is younger than Jin Kazama, YOUNGER! Despite being Jin's aunty. Yes, you heard correctly. I think the creators wanted a self-insert character to have some sort of sex appeal, which is why they made her look younger and prettier, and show off her legs (which gives me the ick.) And her calling Jin "Senpai" didn't help either.
(I also didn't like the fact the creators made Kazumi Mishima and Jun Kazama look younger than their own sons, like what is wrong with looking a bit older, mature and graceful? I actually want to see a badass, old lady in Tekken that can fight! Kazumi felt like a missed opportunity in that sense.)
-She manages to beat the shit out of Kazuya in her ending, despite her looking like a twig. Reminding me too much of something out Inuyasha, when that abusive, unbearable, bratty, girl Kagome would do the same thing to her love interest Inuyasha, for comedy! 🙄
I will admit that Kazuya is a shitty father (Sorry fans 😭 don't kill me) at least Kazuya has flaws, he is a damaged man, blinded by hatred, rage and has an obssession with power, like it's a drug to him. A wrathful devilman, but not completely heartless, otherwise he would just be another mini Heihachi.
Reina has no flaws, no personality, no interesting backstory and is just a pathetic Jerk-Sue Character (a Mary-Sue that is a Jerk, with no consequences for her actions.)
-She is also not a good plot-twist character either, again, she just ripped off Lars' backstory, so there is no originality from her.
-And to add to the cherry on top, when it comes to her being a poorly written, fanfic-styled Mary-Sue character, she is also....... a devil! 😈 Unless if it is revealed that she is Kazumi's daughter or something, then why the hell does she have to devil gene? And she wants to be the new Heihachi, huh? Wait till she finds out that Heihachi is the OG devil hater.
Terrible twist, terrible story, and a terrible first impression of Reina. 🤬 Fuck this character!
