Award Season Guesses - late December 2024
Alright, well I still haven't seen The Brutalist (or Nickel Boys) because it's not releasing outside NYC and LA until sometime in January and I have no intention of seeing A Complete Unknown precisely because I am a Bob Dylan fan. So I haven't really updated my list of predictions from about a month ago or so. I am tempted to include The Substance but it is a sliiiiiim possibility given how the Oscars snubs work in horror. So here are my predictions as of late December 2024.
Above the Line Awards:
Alphabetical order as usual. My suspected winners in bold and runner-ups/potential "upsets in italics.
Best Picture:
Anora*
The Brutalist
A Complete Unknown
Conclave
Dune Pt 2
Emilia Perez
Nickel Boys
A Real Pain
Sing Sing
The Substance (????)
Wicked Pt 1
I am going on a limb and guessing The Substance does get in even though I think it is reeeeally a stretch. The Academy snubs horror films all the time, especially in acting (see Toni Collette in Hereditary and Mia Goth in Pearl). But the GG noms made me reconsider even though the GG is a critics/journalism awards show and the Oscars are an industry awards show and like any "election," demographic patterns vary. But actually if anything I think critics are snobbier about horror than industry people so that's a good sign. No idea what will win -- which is fun! 2024 was not nearly as good as 2023, which was an unusually packed year for great movies. But in a way, that makes Awards Season more fun because there isn't a clear front runner. I am leaning Anora right now for BP like I have been all year, but I would NOT underestimate either Wicked or Emilia Perez. I don't like the latter movie very much and while I did really enjoy Wicked I wouldn't say it was the best of the year. But don't underestimate the Oscars leaning populist because all three of the last BP winners in awards season were very much "crowd pleasers" over more "artsy" choices like Power of the Dog or Poor Things. (It feels odd to call Oppenheimer a "crowd pleaser" as that movie is so bleak, but technically, it counts in the sense that many people saw it and both general audiences and industry people liked it. So I'd put it next to EEAO and CODA as a "crowd-pleaser" Best Picture winner and a "populist" choice due to it making so much money because of Barbeheimer despite being, technically, a kinda weird movie when you dissect it. So don't underestimate Wicked!).
Best Director: Sean Baker (Anora), Edward Berger (Conclave), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), maaaaybe Coralie Fargeat, but ONLY if The Substance gets into Best Picture. I have taken Denis Villeneuve (Dune Pt 2) out of my predictions even though he deserves it because Dune Pt 2 was better than the first one. But until I see The Brutalist, I can't evaluate it. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a rare Best Picture and Best Director split.
Best Actress in A Lead Role: Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Perez), Angelina Jolie (Maria), Mikkey Madison (Anora).....and if and only if The Substance The Substance gets into picture, maaaaaybe Demi Moore. She probably deserves it (I haven't seen The Substance because I'm squeamish), but the Academy is awful about nominating horror performances (see Toni Collette for Hereditary). The alternative might be Nicole Kidman for Babygirl.
Best Actor in a Lead Role: Adrian Brody (The Brutalist), Timothee Chalamet (A Complete Unknown), Daniel Craig (Queer), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave).
I am leaning Brody based on trailers alone (the Academy loves an accent and a WWII-post Holcaust drama) but even if Chalamet is mid -- and apparently he is quite good -- the Academy isn't above rewarding lame music biopics. See Austin Butler's nomination for Elvis and Rami Malek winning for Bohemian Rhapsody. ACU is apparently good -- I really hate that kind of biopic so I am not there for it -- so all Chalamet has to do to be decent for the boomer crowd who likes Dylan to vote for him.
Best Supporting Actress: Ariana Grande (Wicked), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), Zoe Saldana (Emilia Perez), Margaret Qualley (The Substance).
Still leaning Saldana but Grande is not to be underestimated (the Academy are more likely to award comedic performances in supporting -- see Ryan Gosling's nom last year. He might have won if RDJ didn't have The Narrative). I am putting Rosselini in there now that she got into GG and if I am going to lean towards The Substance, maybe Qualley. Felicity Jones isn't doing well in critics circles but I think if The Brutlaist is popular, she could be the Emily Blunt of the season (the person who gets nominated for being in a popular movie and tags along but doesn't win anything, which is what happened with Emily Blunt last year because Oppenheimer was so popular with the industry and critics that she got a lot of "tag along" noms but no real wins).
Best Supporting Actor: Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain), Clarence Maclin (Sing Sing), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), Denzel Washington (Gladiator II)...and someone else. Idk maybe one of the Anora guys (Yura Borisov (Igor?). I don't see the supporting performances from Conclave aside from Rosselini getting in because while everyone was good...that is part of the problem. No one but her really stood out because everyone in the supporting cast was so solid and I think Anora is a bit similar in that regard except that Borisov's character sticks out as having a sliver of decency. It's weird to think that the sentence "Oscar winner Kieran Culkin" might be a thing. As much as I like Culkin from Succession, my actual vote would be Maclin. But no one saw that movie :( I am including Washington even though Gladiator II got poor to mixed reviews because he's Denzel. He is such a great actor who was snubbed for his best performances that now they nominate him all the time to make up for it, and it's such a weak year in this category that I'm not complaining.
Original Screenplay: Idk what is original and adapted, but I think Anora wins Screenplay, especially if it doesn't win Best Picture. The recent trend is sometimes to throw a movie that won't be awarded anywhere else a screenplay award (see last year with both American Fiction and Anatomy of A Fall). The other possibility might be A Real Pain if they decide to award it.
Other than Anora, I think: The Brutalist, A Real Pain, The Substance, and maybe September 5 if they follow the Globes (which they don't always do because the Golden Globes are a press/critics award and the Oscars are industry so different voting demographics).
Adapted Screenplay: No idea what is even in this category. The distinction between Original and Adapted is pretty arbitrary at times (see: Barbie in Adapted last year). My guesses are A Complete Unknown (based on a specific Dylan bio apparently), Conclave (based on a novel), Emilia Perez (I think inspired by something?), Sing Sing (loosely based on a true story) and idk what the fifth slot is.
Who I think will win in the tech categories:
Best Production Design: Wicked. Dune Pt 2 might be an upset.
Costume: Obviously Wicked.
Special Effects: Probably Dune Pt 2 but it could be something I haven't heard of that the effects branch likes, because that happens often.
Hair and Make Up: If The Substance gets in, maaaybe. This is the one category that horror is recognized so I wouldn't be surprised if The Substance and maybe even Nosferatu gets in. But it might be Wicked if the Academy does what it often does and people outside the nominating branches just vote for the movie they like more, in which case it would be Wicked. Dune Pt 2 should get at least a nomination for Rebecca Ferguson's possessed henna.
Cinematography: Either Conclave or Anora. It really depends how 1) Anora does in general and 2) if it does well, if there is a "share the love" vibe. The Academy doesn't do the massive Titanic/Lord of the Rings sweeps anymore (and I'm fine with that) -- see last year giving Zone of Interest the Sound award and American Fiction got Adapted Screenplay when a lot of people thought Oppenheimer was a lock for both because it was the BP frontrunner and, if this was the 2000s, probably would have taken them by default. In the EEAAO year, an Edward Berger film (All Quiet on the Western Front) won cinematography over EEAAO in an upset, so it wouldn't be unprecedented if that happened again with Conclave.I hope it's not Emilia Perez. That movie is very flashy but I don't like the cinematography much. It's all flash no style. Dune Pt 2 will definitely be nominated but I feel like its spring release hurt it.
Score: It'd be cool if Challengers got nominated but I don't see it, unfortunately. The score branch is not that cool and prefers instrumental scores over tech/synth music, even though Trent has been nominated before. I don't know what will win, since Dune 2 is not even eligible.
Sound Design: It better be Dune Pt 2. I think Wicked and probably A Complete Unknown will get nominated because of the music mixing (which, in Wicked, was very subtle and well done and apparently ACU sounds great too). But I really don't like biopics about musicians so I'd rather it not. I wouldn't mind a Wicked nom here, but Dune Pt 2 is so inventive in its sound design that I am rooting for it.
#And to clarify why I say I hate biopics but Amadeus is one of my favorite movies of all time#and Oppenheimer was my pick for BP last year#those movies are quite different than the typical musical/celebrity biopic#when you watch Elvis or Spencer or Jackie or Frost/Nixon (which is a good movie!)#or Bohemian Rhapsody#you have a clear idea of what Elvis and Princess Diana and Jackie Kennedy and Nixon and Freddie Mercury sounded like#how they talked how they moved their image and I get tired of the very baity impressions#not many people go into Oppenheimer (even if you have read books on the subject) with a clear idea of what he sounded like#or his posture. Sure if you look at photos and video Cillian Murphy DID his job but it's not a direct impression#and no one cares because you aren't silently comparing his voice the whole film so I don't see it as a baity biopic role the way Ana what's#her name was a Marilyn Monroe#and in Amadeus...well....aside from the fact it is mostly fictional we don't have a recording of what the real Mozart sounded like#we just have second-hand accounts and that movie exaggerated it bc so much of it is from Salieri's POV#So I would put Murphy and Tom Hulce's performance in Amadeus in a different category#bc they are playing real people but they aren't trying that hard to do an impression and that is refreshing#also I am not a massive Christopher Nolan fan but he said something either last summer or in Oscar campaigning about biopics that hit the#nail on the head. Something along the lines of how *biopic* is not a genre#Lawrence of Arabia is an adventure story Citizen Kane is a psychological drama#Oppenheimer is part origin story part heist movie part court drama#the context was Nolan talking about his influences not bashing anyone#but in doing so he accidentally articulated precisely what i DON'T like about most biopics#there is no drama there is no GENRE and no internal impetus to care about the story unless you like the music of the person or are invested#and no even for musicians I like or stories I find interesting in terms of film making a lot of biopics are pretty lazy in that regard#then again my biggest issue with Maestro was how LITTLE Cooper cared about Bernstein's music so there's a line#lior liveblogs awards season

Happy Valentine's Day!!!
Like Jim Croce once said, I'll have to say I love you in a song ... so I've filled up a playlist of oldies from the 50s through the 70s, each one inspired by a TWST guy! Consider it a gift from me to all of you <3
Some of these songs show how that character falls in love, or what it's like to be in love with them. Some show how you might look at that character when you're in love with them. Or how they might look at you. Some of them were chosen just because it was funny. (Sorry to all Jack fans.)
If you're really curious about why I chose a certain song, feel free to ask! Or suggest another oldie that makes you think of them.
Song list under the cut, so you can skip to your special little guy's song if you're impatient! (Or if you don't have Spotify.)
Enjoy! And have a happy Valentine's Day!
Thanks to @twstinginthewind for helping me come up with a few of these 💖

actual character lore instead of me working on actual fics you’re welcome enjoy!!!!
—-
Matty- he is my version of the boy that helps clarisse beat up percy jackson 😘 so this man is like freakishly tall. like i’m talking 6’0+ but unfortunately this man is NOT a leader he is a follower and he is a loyal clarisse follower and also her bff let’s be real. he has the potential to be the hottest boy at camp but he can be a little silly at times. constantly stressed bc everyone is testing clarisse and HES GOTTA CLEAN UP THE MESS!!!!!! but let’s be real he is DEADLY with a sword and can fuck a bitch up, but he chooses to be happy!
Carrie- my version of the girl that helps clar beat up percy 😘 blonde hair, same physical style as the show… also clar’s bff except they would never say that. they’re bros. don’t get it twisted. (her and clarisse secretly like to gush over their crushes tg 💔) she is so chill and constantly pulling clarisse out of trouble, knows her very well and always plays to clarisse’s ego bc sometimes this bitch just gotta calm down. also an absolute machine and fucks bitches up on the daily
Jackie- ella purnell/jackie taylor from yellowjackets, basically just her. kinda tom-boyish daughter of aphrodite, still fucks up some makeup and a pretty outfit tho, wickedly good at archery and actively fights against stereotypes. my girl wants to FIGHT!!!! she is kind sarcastic at times, but mostly silly
Tyla- stereotypical daughter of aphrodite 💔 her and jacks are always play fighting “ALL YOU DO IS LOOK AT SHOES” “ALL YOU DO IS WATCH THAT BOY FROM THE APOLLO CABIN PRACTICE ARCHERY!!!!” she is always giggling and laughing she finds everything funny, truly just vibing
matty and tyla are dating yes ok 👍

hi! can I ask you for crime movie recommendations, or just a list of your personal favorites? I've been getting super into crime fiction recently (books and movies), and I'm making a watchlist of movies I want to check out next. heist movies, gangster films, thrillers, anything involving criminals is interesting to me, and I'd really love to hear about your faves! have a nice day <3
hiii, Estelle! oh I love a good crime movie! I grew up on gangster and mob movies tbh so there's some obvious choices like the godfather and goodfellas. continuing with Scorsese, I love casino. I think it's somewhat underrated Scorsese, idk i just don't see it mentioned that often, but it's super fun. the departed as well, people talked shit about it, but it's great. then mean streets, serpico, taxi driver, dog day afternoon, heat, collateral, thief, chinatown. pretty much every Tarantino ever, obviously reservoir dogs and pulp fiction, jackie brown is my favourite and the sort of song of the movie is across 110th street from the movie of the same name, so I'd def recommend that one, it's an underrated flick. heist movie-wise, ocean's eleven kind of the king here. then set it off, bound, inside man, widows, the italian job (the original), topkapi and rififi are underrated ones, the asphalt jungle, the friends of eddie coyle, the taking of pelham 123, the thomas crown affair (the remake), dead presidents, out of sight, point break, the driver, hustlers, a fish called wanda is sooo funny. sexy beast is such a great and intense movie.
if you'd enjoy something criminal and psychosexual, I'd recommend two 60s movies the housemaid and who killed teddy bear? the cook, the thief, the wife and her lover is an insane sexy one. blue velvet fits here as well. Guy Ritchie made the same movie like 4 times tbh, but I love snatch and lock, stock and two smoking barrels, I think the man from uncle is also a fun one. Brian De Palma is good at corny and sleazy and I kinda love his scarface. body double is silly but I love a good voyeuristic movie. along those lines you obviously have rear window and peeping tom, and then to continue with Hitchcock, I love rope, psycho, and think dial m for murder is quite overlooked. natural born killers, true romance and the doom generation for something stupid and bloody. mandatory Fincher recs like se7en and zodiac. I love the usual suspects, it has that twist at the end that for me personally works even upon rewatches. another underrated movie is joy house with beautiful Jane Fonda and Alain Delon in his prime. faster pussycat kill kill is just pure fun and sleaze and gorgeous ladies. I love lady snowblood and scorpion with Meiko Kaji but I know you've seen those. tokyo drifter is a stylish one as well. some obvi french new wave recs like breathless and pierrot le fou. I'd say there's nothing quite like the atmospheric the night of the hunter. I love drive too, it's all style and the only substance is blood. uncut gems and good time are quite good too. out of something extra new, I enjoyed love lies bleeding more than I expected. seven psychopaths and in bruges for something cynical and silly. then fargo, no country for old men, the big lebowski. filth and trainspotting for something utterly dirty and disgusting. not to forget Hannibal Lecter, we can't not mention the silence of the lambs and manhunter. also badlands, dirty harry, carlito's way, eastern promises, the third man, the big sleep, double indemnity, gun crazy, bonnie and clyde, foxy brown, american psycho, the talented mr ripley, prisoners. something more along crime drama strange days, fallen angels, the city of the rising sun and made in hong kong.

Blood Moon. (CW)
CW: Gore, Cannibalism, Primal Food Play, Minor Sex over Corpse
Characters: Phantom, Sodo, Mountain, Swiss, Sunshine, Cumulus, Cirrus, Minor Special, Minor Doves, Minor Bell, Random Siblings of Sin
For the amazing @damagedghoulette !!!
Read it under the cut or on AO3!
"During the blood moon, there was a simple list of rules to follow... The night, even simpler..."
During the blood moon, there was a simple list of rules to follow.
During the day, don't interact with any of the ghouls, even the Nulls. Pack your necessities for the night. Keep your family close to you, and leave behind unnecessary things.
The night, even simpler.
Don't go out past curfew.
Don't let anyone in or out.
Keep your windows closed.
Ignore the cries.
Don't use fire.
Don't use any water.
Keep a light on near the door.
The clergy could always tell when a blood moon was coming, watching as ghouls became hungrier and more stoic. How the bubbly laughter of one has become that of menacing stares. It was part of their life now, quarantining and evacuating the siblings of sin to the second ministry nearby - keeping the Ghouls locked in the main clergy. Doors never stopped them, however.
Of course, there were always the “brave” ones. The ones too attached to their ghoul lover to leave them for the time being. The reckless and protesting ones. The elders of the church knew better from past year's and past blood to not fight against those that didn't trust their words. They lost too many people trying to save those that didn't listen.
Sister Jackie, was one of those simple fools. Standing outside with a cigarette pressed to her lips, inhaling sharply before blowing smoke out. Leaning against the cold stone wall, she looked around, scoffing as there was nothing but the gentle sound of nature. With another drag, she stood up, rubbing her tobacco against the wall and throwing the butt to the ground - heading towards the door. As she went to pull out her key, the sound of crying made her freeze.
The sister of sin slowly turned, seeing all too familiar bat wings in a tree. She tilted her head, slowly walking forwards. Of course, Jackie had been told about the crying… But they couldn't have meant this. This sounded genuine.
“Phantom?” She called out, seeing the newly summoed Quintessence finally look up - eyes full of tears.
He brought his claws to his mouth, chewing softly from anxiety as he kept sobbing. “Si-Sister Jackie…” He looked around frantically, tail wrapped around his leg as he looked down at her. “I'm scared…”
The woman cooed, raising her arms and watching Phantom slowly move down to be in her hold. “About all this baloney? Pft. Look at you, Phantom! You're not going blood thirsty, nothing like that. This whole thing is a rumor mill that I'm positive elder ghouls started just so you guys could have parties.”
The bat just shook his head, continuing to cry in her shoulder as Jackie began to walk them back to the ministry. “You don't understand! They were clawing, an-and my own pack, they… They're so scary and…” He began to sob again, nails clutching into her nightgown. “I'm so scared."
“Aww, Tom…” She brought her key out, opening the door. “I'll protect you, how about that?”
“Do you promise?”
“I promise.”
Jackie unlocked the door, and a sickening crunch echoed. She gasped for breath, body trembling before she fell backwards. Phantom let out a deep, unearthly growl as he yanked his head back, pulling her external carotid and flesh back. Blood spurted over his face and the ground, purring as he got comfortable on her chest - continuing to go back and forth to lap at her blood and eat flesh. His tail raised as he felt a hand go through his hair, looking up with a giant smile as Sodo stood above him.
“Did I do good?!” Phantom squealed, a bright smile on his bloody face.
He purred as Sodo rubbed under his chin before walking into the now open ministry - taking that as his “well done.”
The halls were empty and pitch black, Sodo’s nails going along the walls as he stalked inside. His blackened face and smoke clouding him - but attention being drawn as a body removed itself from the shadows.
Swiss skipped next to his pack leader, showing a toothy smile as he walked backwards. “Using Phantom? Damn that was smart!” He spoke in their tongue. “You missed Rain’s kill, though. He got a whole two in one! These two brothers fucking by the lake, before he crawled up next to them - did this cute little trill and started rubbing and purring, got them to focus on him and bam! Bashed their heads in with each other. God it was hot!”
The fire ghoul let out a soft laugh, bringing his pointer up to where his mouth would be - Swiss rolling his eyes before laughing as he sunk through the shadows under a door. Sodo moved, pushing himself up on the wall and listening silently as he heard Swiss’ calm demeanor and voice.
“Hey, hey! It's okay! Listen, I'm a multi so, you know, I'm not really affected by it. I just get horny and high! Besides, I wanted to come visit some of my favorite people, see how y'all were doing!”
Priceless. It took a few more minutes before a scream echoed through the halls, Sodo watching as a brother of sin stumbled out; running outside the open door when Swiss got in the doorway.
“I'm sorry! I didn't mean to snap their neck!” He stood with his arms out, eventually laughing as the brother kept going, making his way back into his room to enjoy his kill.
The brother, Allen, held puke back as he passed by the disfigured corpse near the entrance - and multiple others scattered around the field. Tears pushed down his face as he ran into the woods, desperate to get away. He knew there was a brick wall that had a gate to the outside, something the Ghouls couldn't go beyond without their masters nearby to break the barrier. Allen panted, trying to weave through the trees and thick brush before coming to a clearing. His lungs burned, the brother leaning against a tree to catch his breath.
Looking around, Allen heard… Nothing. Not even the crickets or frogs. Not a single firefly in sight like usual. He leaned against the tree, rubbing his face and eyes, putting a hand behind him to push off.
The man's face quickly became that of confusion, eyebrows furrowed as he looked behind him, hand clutching heavy amounts of fur. Allen slowly was filled with fear as hot breath blew onto the top of his head, slowly looking up to see black eyes staring back - chest slowly rising. The glimmer of white rows of fangs made him stumble back and on the woods floor, crawling backwards as he watched the Earth Ghoul step forwards with it's giant hoof. A bloodcurdling scream left his throat as he went back to his feet, running away as the echo of laughter joined.
The trees seemed to be against him, somehow getting taller - tunnel vision doing Allen's view as he pushed by branches and fallen logs. He made a quick turn, only to come face-to-face with those bead eyes, turning back around to run the opposite direction. Whispers, laughs, and the sounds of branches cracking sent Allen into a spiral, quickly getting lost. He couldn't help but clutch his hair, sobbing as he twirled around frantically, trying to figure out which way to go. Once more, the tears began, picking up a stick as the sound of footsteps came from every direction.
“Leave me alone!” Allen screamed, his voice cracking. “Get the fuck away from me!”
A whistle sounded right behind him, Allen yelling and swinging the thick branch behind - only to hit nothing. Another whistle, and as he went to swing the other way he was met with resistance. The man looked down, hands trembling as he watched vines take his branch away - stepping backwards only to have another resistance. Vines quickly wrapped around his pants, tightening against the skin. Allen yelled, feeling the same thorns wrap around his arms and force him up into the air - displayed as a starfish. He screamed as his muscles and bones were strained, head tilted back as pain overtook his body.
Mountain slowly crept out from the trees, positioning himself under Allen and tilting his head - the human paying him no attention as he was focused on the sounds and feelings of his bones being ripped out of the socket before finally he was split. His limbs torn off, body cutting through the middle and dropping gallons of blood and organs onto the leaf covered floor. The ghoul huffed, closing his eyes and basking as blood rain came down up on his face, slowly twirling as he enjoyed the shower.
The ghoul looked over his shoulder as he felt a smaller presence, seeing Phantom who had been lurking the entire time. Mountain ushered him over, crouching down with a smile which the bat happily walked over. Reaching down, Mountain offered a lung to the newly, watching his eyes light up as he dug in. Phantom moaned at the taste, moving to sit on Mountain's lap as the larger sat down, picking his parts off the dirt.
“Are you enjoying your first moon?” Mountain whispered, nuzzling into Phantom's hair as he chewed on intestines like jerky.
The Quint nodded, swallowing before speaking. “Yeah!! Oh it was so cool! I got my first kill and everything! But I just- I feel so hungry like-”
“Like you're not satisfied?”
Phantom shook his head, looking at his mate for more guidance. “You won't feel filled by only one and scraps from me. Maybe about two of your own and a few other scraps.”
The bat purred with a nod, curling against Mountain's fluffy chest, wings fluttering in response. “Cirrus said something about meeting back near the lake after - why?”
Mountain huffed, feeling his cock jump. He broke off another part of the intestines, spitting out excess. “Blood mating. Brings us closer, and then usually we share our overall ‘leftovers.’”
The bat trilled, his own face getting warm but silently finishing his organ - looking over as he heard frantic footsteps. In an instant, vines covered their spot like a dome. Phantom peeked through the cracks, watching a duo of earth ghouls chase after a nude sister - screaming for help before being tackled and quickly torn at. Before he could watch more, Mountain cupped his face and turned him away, offering the second lung.
“Be careful around others, too. Packs don't get along very well during blood moons.”
“Why?”
Mountain shrugged, reaching up to take a dangling thigh of Allen. “There's a few reasons, but mostly just possession over kills. Don't want the threat of someone taking theirs. So packs usually don't merge for giant kills. Especially those with no packs or mates, they get extremely aggressive, too.”
The Quintessence sat in silence again, feeling the earth ghoul rub his shoulder. After a moment, he watched with curiosity as vines wrapped around the remaining parts of the body after Mountain stuffed remaining organs into one side. He broke off the thorns, keeping Phantom in one arm and now dragging the body by his element.
“Where are we going?” Phantom sat up more in Mount’s arm, tail wagging as he looked around.
“Did Swiss not tell you?”
“Tell me what?”
The earth ghoul grumbled under his breath. “Well, you were supposed to stay with Sodo. But, besides that, every two hours there's a check in to make sure no one's hurt or… Deceased from other packs. We also start piling our hunts together for the end of our night.”
“Oh!” Phantom's feet began to kick back and forth happily, feeling Mountain's hands press against his bare thigh. “That makes sense!”
Mountain stood at the treeline, observing his surroundings before stepping out, making his way to the shed near the edge of the lake - Phantom waving excitedly as he seen Cumulus, Swiss, and Rain already there who waved back. Mountain dropped his body in the already large pile, the smell keeping them on their toes. They began to chit amongst themselves, purring and checking over one another’s body. The strong scent of burning flesh got their attention, trilling happily as Sodo walked up with his claws dug into two scalps, Sunshine carrying another burnt corpse.
“Baby, you know I love you, but you know I prefer mine sauteed and not crispy!” Swiss chuckled, earning a glare from the fire ghoul as he dropped off his own.
“Shush.” He looked around, tail flicking. “Where's Cirrus?”
As if on cue, a chit made the pack look behind them. Phil was walking up, holding Cirrus in his arms while the Doves and Bell stood back, watching silently.
Swiss and Sodo instantly jogged up, the pack watching with worry as they couldn't hear the conversation. Swiss took the Ghoulette, quickly coming back over and sitting her down. He observed her leg, a deep, and thick bite exposing her muscle.
“Fuck, Rus… I thought you were with Lus'?” Swiss mumbled, letting his hands glow over her leg.
“We were-” She hissed out on pain, gripping the cold soil under her nails. “Our kills split up so we split up. Fucking- Ugh!” Her tail flicked as more pain went through her leg. “Damn single Earth rammed into me, took my kill. Fucker bit me once I hit the floor… Gaia was near though, and he seen me.”
Phantom crawled off of Mountain's lap, holding Cirrus close to send comforting waves, letting her sink into his hold. He looked over to watch Sodo and Spec trade a few miscellaneous organs for two hearts, purring and rubbing over one another before separating; Spec jogging to his own pack before they went back into the treeline.
Eventually, Swiss’ finished her leg, being cautious and wrapping it with some of Mountain's aloe. “There. Try to stay in one spot, stick with someone.”
Rain trilled, offering for her to stay near the water with him which she accepted. The pack began to relax some, Sodo and Rain taking the first watch so the pack could eat - even still, leaving the rest on guard. The newlys were put up first, Cumulus showing how to open the skin with just their claws, which organ was better filling, and what was classified as a ‘snack.’
…
After separating multiple times and regrouping, their pile was finally pleasurable enough to end their night. The Ghoulettes had agreed to take the final watch, Cirrus settled on top of the shed since she couldn't move much - the other two settled within the trees to high grounds.
Phantom let out a long, stringy moan as he was bent over the open chest cavity of one of Sodo’s kill, still finding his stomach growling - Swiss behind him and slowly thrusting into his body. The bat trilled, nuzzling his face back into the ever so cooling body, tongue licking at a small puddle of blood still inside. The Multi adjusted himself, gripping Phantom's hips and beginning to thrust harder into his hole. The bat squealed again as Swiss began to hit his prostate, cock straining as he brought a hand down to ease some of his need. Phantom could feel himself getting queasy, his own hot breath echoing against the corpse’s chest, ribs poking into his cheek.
“Almost, baby- Fuck, almost.” Swiss growled, his own moans sharp and high.
His talons dug into the ground as he slammed forwards, knot starting to catch before finally latching. The Quint sobbed his moan as he came onto the ground, feeling Swiss fill him full. His wings expanded before folding again, whining as Swiss lifted his chest up to get off the human. An arm went under his knees, lifting him up but not pulling against the knot settled inside. Swiss waddled them over to the rest of the pack, Rain purring as he opened his arms for Phantom's chest the be against him. The two began to kiss, rubbing their cheeks together before butting horns.
Very shortly, kisses began to be shared, Swiss leaning over the two smaller bodies to pepper Sodo’s sleeping face - Mountain joining in on their leader. Settling back down, the pack stayed close to one another, tails and hands holding what they could on each other.
“I have a question…” Phantom mumbled, earning his pack to look up at him. “How… Does everything work after this? I-I mean the clergy knows we killed members and siblings.”
Mountain spoke up, propping his head up on his hand. “We clean up our mess. It's kind of a hush situation, really. They know it happens, no one's really allowed to talk about it. But, yeah, we just clean everything. Earths clear the forest, Water clears the lakes, Fire and Air are left burning bodies. While Quintessence is left on mops and brooms.” The earth ghoul laughed.
The newly summon nodded, curling against Rain and Swiss before exhaling, lightly picking at dried blood on his chin.
“It's morbid to say but… I had fun…”
“Not morbid.” Swiss chimed in. “It's natural instinct. Hunts, no matter what, are fun! Part of who we are. I mean, look at Spec and Bell. Those two call themselves humans and even they participate in the hunt. It's literally just our nature.”
“Yeah, true.” Phantom shrugged. “Thank you guys.”
A kiss on his neck by Rain was all he needed to relax on the ground, falling asleep to the sound of his packs breathing.

May I ask about the Star Vs downspiral? I remember seeing commercials about that show but that's the extent of what I know. But I'm curious now.
Well, honestly there was a Lot that contributed to its fall from grace, but here are some of the lowlights.
(It's been a very long time since I watched this show so I may be forgetting some details; this is how I remember it).
A) Four prominent characters are drawn into a horrible, horrible love square. Star herself, Marco, who is the other main character whose family she stays with while on Earth, her ex-boyfriend Tom, and another character who we meet later, Kelly. I'm sure some people always shipped Star and Marco, whatever, but a significant amount of the fandom including myself were beyond content with their relationship staying platonic---romance was not a factor that needed to be brought in to make us care about their dynamic. In fact, romance just about killed any enjoyment for them at all because it was so poorly written.
Marco and Star go back and forth between taking that romantic step and subsequently rejecting each other for various reasons. At some point Star gets back with her ex, Tom, who seems to have turned over a new leaf. Marco and Tom even have episodes where they hang out together too. Then Marco starts dating Kelly at the same time Star and Tom start to fall out again.
Now that I'm writing this I've realized I actually forgot another entire character who was wrapped up in this; Jackie Lynn, who Marco has a crush on in the early season(s?). She and Marco are together at some point until she leaves him because he's clearly not into her anymore. There are five characters who get stuck in this terrible plotline.
It's just... so needlessly dramatic and completely unnecessary. Star and Marco end up together, of course, but in doing so they completely screw over those two other characters, and by that time, their relationship just leaves a bad taste in fans' mouths.
B) Star VS as a show initially started out as pretty episodic and pivoted to a more narrative-driven storyline later on, which isn't at all necessarily bad, but a lot of what I personally liked about the show ended up being pushed to the wayside because of the bigger emphasis on the plot, and it was disappointing. Not everything needs to have a massive earth-shattering narrative to be good.
The early episodes were character-driven, full of incredibly interesting worldbuilding, and just fun to watch. All of those things were shoved away to make room for something more dramatic and serious.
C) The main bad guys are also pretty much an entire species which is never a good idea because it breeds so many uncomfortable writing decisions. They're "monsters" and they are The Bad Guys, who the Regular People need to stay away from. The narrative kinda tries to challenge this concept, but in the end it's really just not important whatsoever.
Honorable mention) When the show was still good, Marco had a couple episodes in which really interesting things were happening with his gender; he crossdressed as part of Plot and then seemed as as if he was confused about how it made him feel? But later on that plotline turned into more of a joke than it already was and went nowhere. Just weird.
D) How the show ended was one of the absolute worst I've ever seen. I truly cannot explain to you just how--bizarre it is; anticlimactic, rushed, unexpected in the worst way. To stop people from fighting, Star makes the incredibly quick decision to just. destroy magic.
So she does.
The aftermath shows that the two dimensions (Earth and Star's original home, Mewni) are now merged together in some sort of 'happy' fusion, magic is completely not a thing anymore, and entire species that have before been shown to canonically need magic to survive are dead because of it, though the show doesn't think to provide a better explanation for that at all.
And it ends.
#yeah.#I also may be forgetting things too#this was sooooo insane to me#star vs the forces of evil#smokey answers#le-sam

I'm tempted to make a 1970s TMNT AU.
Imagine Splinter watching Mork & Mindy, Dallas, Good Times, The Love Boat, Charlie's Angels, and Three's Company every week.
Imagine Leo being obsessed with all the martial arts movies coming out, and watching "Drunken Master" so many times that Splinter has to scold him for adopting Jackie Chan's fighting style.
Imagine Don watching Martin Cooper present the world's first portable phone... then going on to make a much improved version, himself when he was just twelve years old.
Imagine Raphael going out into the richer parts of the city during the gas crisis and siphoning fuel out of businessmen's cars and putting it into cars in the poorer parts of town.
Imagine Mike filling out those "do you want to be an artist" ads in his comic books and sending them in, hoping to get to be a professional comics artist some day.
Imagine all of the Turtles trekking out into the Blizzard of 1978, completely bundled up to both keep warm and keep from being seen, to help the locals dig their cars and homes out of the snow.
Imagine April's apartment all in shades of avocado and gold, with bean bag chairs and macrame and shag carpet; and her having pin-straight hair but trying out the Farrah Fawcett look, ultimately finding it too labor-intensive.
Imagine Casey Jones with a Tom Selleck mustache and a mullet, riding a Harley-Davidson XR750, and having a massive collection of 8-Tracks.
I mean, the 70s was a fascinating decade. It was a time of rising crime and political turmoil, television was in a state of great flux, there was a gas crisis that brought out the absolute worst in people, New York saw blackouts and arson and unprecedented weather events, the Bronx was compared to a war zone and looked like one... terrorism was on the rise, the music industry was reaching out and stretching its legs, the battle of the sexes was in full swing, gun sales were on the rise... Watergate, Vietnam, the Son of Sam...
It was a hard time, but also an interesting time.

Janstar&Tomco Fankids
I did these for fun. The girl is Asteroida and the boy is Gabriel.
When Marco and Jackie went to the school dance party, Star and Janna to witness the Clown Bon Bon. Janna tried to comfort Star. After that Star and Janna get together. After the death of Toffee, Marco came to Mewni. And at the end of Season 3, during the battle with the Meteora, Tom confesses his love for Marco, though Marco is then sucked out of his soul by Meteora (and later recovered).
Apocalypse ending: In the ending, Star and others did not choose to destroy magic, but chose to go back together to fight Mina with others. Although the enemies were defeated in the end, it caused great damage and heavy casualties to Mewni. Like, Moon is dead at that time.Star and other people travel around different dimensions, seeking for solutions. Years later, in Mewni, which is still not fully recovered, the two teenagers do their best to survive while waiting for their family members who are often away.
Good ending: For various reasons, the Solaria Warriors were defeated and the magic was not destroyed. The Eclipsa continues to be Queen, with the help of Star and Moon. Years later, a few years after Meteora inherited the wand, two adventurous teenagers(don't want to go to school?) set off on a journey with their family.
1. Asteroida Butterfly
Age: 13-16
Gender: ♀
Mother: Star, Janna
Star and Janna's daughter, has been covering up her cheek marks. Calm, with few mood swings. People would find it difficult to get to know Her. Think twice before she acts. Sometimes people wonder, "Is it really the daughter of Star Butterfly?" Don't like "fancy" things, such as too complicated clothing style (such as royal dress), thinking being practical is more important. Got a scar from some accident. In some cases do not resist bright colors and easy to move clothes, because "it is easy to be found in the face of danger." The one in charge of strategy. She didn't inherit a wand, and she can't do magic. One of the few pleasures in life is collecting and telling horrible stories. Take self-study courses while traveling. Interested in all kinds of paranormal events and video games.
2. Gabriel Lucitor
Age: Similar to Asteroida
Gender: ♂
Father: Tom, Marco
The son of Tom and Marco, he's been hiding his third, red eye (but three-eyed demons are common, right?). Lost a horn due to some accident. A lot of strength, so a little narcissistic, easy to brag. However, in fact, except for asteroida, he is not good at communicating with girls (because he's too shy to speak easily). Sometimes people wonder, "Is it really Marco's son?" Surprisingly, he can't stand mess.
He and Asteroida have been working together, and he is responsible for receiving the strategies of Asteroida. Although Asteroida likes to talk about something strange and scary, he thinks that it is not scary at all, and will intentionally interrupt her.
When not traveling, he likes to wear prince clothes. Interested in martial arts and video games

True Tales of the Illuminati Season 3 IS FULLY FUNDED!!!
Good News, everyone!
Our listeners have blown us away and we have made our 9k funding goal for a third five-episode season of True Tales of the Illuminati, a audio comedy about over-worked, underpaid stooges of the illuminati and their bizarre, pathetic failures to change history as we know it.
There's four new minisodes up on the feed for your listening enjoyment--including Tom Crowley’s (Wooden Overcoats, Victoriocity) The Quibblerman Conundrum, a love letter to 50s sci-fi about an intrepid scientist awakening a ‘terrifying secret’ from ‘space’--which will hopefully tide you over until we release our third season, which will not be about space, but rather, about the Enlightenment. What will Beck, Jackie and Ishmael do when they're exposed to a decadent world of philosophy and monographs? Certainly, they wouldn't prefer reading books, drinking in greenhouses and kissing to a life of meaningless propaganda and drudgery… would they?
Thank you so much to everyone who donated to the crowdfund. Our show is, frankly, lavishly produced for something of its size and we don't run ads--everything we make is 100% listener supported. If you like fast-paced, stupid comedy described as "Inside Job meets The Emperor's New Groove" (Inside Job fact: we were first) we hope you'll give us a listen.
Alright, that’s enough from us, thanks for tolerating all of our posting here this month, and a million thanks to those of you who saw our pleas and decided to support us. We’ll see you soon.
Illuminati, Ollominoto, The True Tales Team

a few years ago u had a very fun oc trick or treating piece…. if the s/n crew existed in the real world 2024 what costumes are they wearing on halloween 🎤
sam this is such a good question thank you.......theyre fucking weirdies. is the thing
samira: real life italian artist giovanni battist piranesi. shed even carry around a little model of one of the imaginary prisons
jackie: boromir. From lord of the rings. not cause he died its not a thematic thing they just went dude boromir is so cool. I wanna be boromir
oscar: cobel from severance...........NOT NORMAL.
louie: pickman friendstable. my beautiful knight with a disorder
odilia + feynman: couples costume of the iconic lesbian wire mother and cloth mother costume image that goes around. feynman is wire mother odilia is cloth mother
bell: bell really wanted to do a buddy costume with feynman and be two historic figures from signoise, the challenge to the deep and lagomorph (both cavers) and got really upset that shes doing a couples costume with odilia instead even though he is forty five years old. he ends up being marconi instead.
gil: boring ass generic werewolf costume but hes really invested in trying to scare kids who come to his door like that one episode of gravity falls
elin: too miserable for a costume. the light in front of his house is turned off youre not getting candy if you go there
grace + darce: matching star trek uniforms but if you ask grace theyre troi and riker and if you ask darce theyre harry kim and tom paris. 'the colors dont work out like that though' i never said darcy knew what he was takling about.
verrier: SHAKESPEARE!!!!! shes memorized like half a sonnet for it. but only half. and not even one of the better sonnets.
decade: imagine for the sake of this au that decade is a person and not a city its fine. whatever. old deuteronomy from cats.
#asks#sallytwo#signal to noise#THANK YOU SAM. THIS WAS FUN........#this is not me making an assignment for what character theyre most like this is what they would choose.#also im now imagining them all living in a beautiful neighborhood together and going down the street knocking on everyones doors....#so cute.....very charming. wah

Marco diaz hdc! (fem!reader)
AN:The other day I finished SVTFOE(long story)and I can't get Marco out of my mind stop,I love this silly lil boy
Summary:Those are some headcanons with Marco, you are in Star's place(but instead of Star it's YN yk)
Warnings:None Genre:Fluff
1.When you guys first met,he was kinda surprised about you, like,a magic princess from another dimension?-
"Who are you?-"
"I'm YN Butterfly!~"
2.It was hard getting used to live with you, magic 24/7,fighting with Ludo and his monsters, and being always in trouble. However,Marco got used to it,it was actually fun
3.He's always there for you, even at your worst,he tries everything to make you feel better,he hates seeing you sad
4.He worries about you soooo much,he's always covering your back and helping you to not almost die by trying a new spell
5.He loves going to your events, even if that means having to dress up all fancy and going to another dimenssion
6.You guys have so much conexion that it makes everyone think that you both are dating, even when Marco was dating Jackie
7.Movie nights with Marco's nachos are a must,he makes the best nachos in the entire galaxy
8.He doesn't get along at all with all your friends, but he tries! His relationship with Ponyhead is still in progress
9.He will always mention you in a conversation with anyone, friends, family,it doesn't matter,if he can talk about you,he will
10.Your parents love him! Maybe more than that one horrible relationship you had with Tom years ago?Probably more than that
"Marco!My man!How are you?"
"River,hi!"
"You are taking good care of YN right son?"
"Of course"
"That's nice, you better not break her heart or I'll break your bones"
"What?-"
"Nothing!"
11.Even after almost dying many times,he's still by your side
"Marco, why are we still best friends?"
"What?"
"Like, you could have been crushed by that glass when Toffee kidnapped you,or when you had a tentacle instead of an arm,I almost killed you many times, why are you still my best friend?"
"YN,don't say that, even after all those things,I'm still your best friend, because I know that someway, you will find a solution to those problems"
"Awww romantic Marco!"
12.However,he kinda gets irritated by some stuff, like, why did you had to buy him a gift card that almost kills him?or infiltrating in a reformatory to end the patriarchy and almost getting brainwashed?
13.Every little detail or gift that you give him,he saves it as if it was gold.Even if you gave him a stone that looked like him,he would save it forever
"Marco Marco!Look what I found!"
"A-rock?"
"It's not just a rock,it looks like you, look! Those are your eyes, your mouth, and it even has your mole!"
"Yeah,it does look like me,thanks YN"
14.Just you disappearing for 0.1 seconds makes him lose his mind
This was kinda short, should I make more of these?
