I couldn't find this MST3K clip anywhere, and I NEED it when I'm feeling steady as a goat and flying over trout. And I hope it will show up in searches for the dozens of us, I'm sure, who search for it.
"He is really good!" "Good? He's the BEST!"

My wheels
Tumblr media
Wheels on my bike, are hummin as they roll,
Out early in the am, just going for a stroll,
Bags are packed, bottles are full, and Lycra on,
It’s crisp in the morning, kiss the wife and I am gone,
First few revolutions are quite stiff,
Give your head a shake and get a grip,
Shifting gears to help warm up legs,
Rolling quicker now, you can feel the air moving in your chest,
Turning the crank, it’s what makes him go,
When on a bike you can be fast or you can go slow,
Hummin tires as you roll, must take a sip,
Legs are loving the circles, they don’t ever wanna quit,
Roads, trails, parkways, they are there to ride,
When going thru the forest, look carefully, deer like to hide,
Mine is a Norco Storm 26er, been thru hell,
This year will be more then 5000 kms, I can tell,
Cars whiz by paying no never mind,
Riding is a passion, sure does beat the grind,
Riding long distances, like the Tour de France,
Who would like to meet along the road, maybe good ol Lance,
Burnin rubber and jammin gears,
Be riding my bike for many more years,
All season I will be riding my Norco 26er,
If the storm breaks down, I’ll just fixer,
Bike and white is the bike, Lycra is what I wear,
Miles pedaled hard( mph), is the way to get there,
Sun rising in the east, moon setting in the west,
This riding season is here, and it’s gonna be the best,
Thru the valley’s and meadows, ride beside streams and rivers,
Ridin long distance is a discipline, not always do you giver,
Lobster gloves in winter, fingerless gloves in summer,
Most days I ride quick, 25 kms or so,but some days I just like to lumber.

Where’d you learn how to steer? You do 80 in second gear When you drive, I can’t relax Got your license from Cracker Jacks You just hit another tree These fender benders are killin’ me
She Drives Like Crazy Like no-one else She Drives Like Crazy And I’m afraid for myself
They’ll put you behind bars We’re not playin’ bumper cars Did a great figure eight In the middle of the interstate Tires squeal wherever we go Even hitchhikers just say no
She Drives Like Crazy Her car’s a mess She Drives Like Crazy She’s got a death wish I guess
She’s a demon behind the wheel Thinks she's drivin’ the Batmobile Burnin’ rubber in school zones Runnin’ over the traffic cones Passin’ semis on the right Now my knuckles are turnin’ white
She Drives Like Crazy She’ll break our necks She Drives Like Crazy She always gets into wrecks
She Drives Like Crazy Like no-one else She Drives Like Crazy Now I’m afraid for myself

Yoruichi had this song blasting as she idly whirled her Aygo around in figure eights on one of the Seireitei’s busier courtyards during a 15-minute advertising window for her driving school.

Favourite Mark Lee lines
Chronological order according to release date, English lines in italics, favourites in bold
1. The 7th sense: (he wrote)
Uh, and that’s a long ass ride
2. Another world: (he did NOT write)
Baby turn it up
3. Mad City: (he wrote)
I love every frickin’ line:
When I’m in the house, guess what happens At the end it always turns out To be empty and demolished (I killed it) I eventually always end up Standing at the center of it Always energetic still clenching A damn mic in my fist now (how) Could this be possible? Am I that powerful? Guess that’s why rumours Around the world are saying that Mark is absolutely fully capable No more rules, just dial my number If you’re ready to have your house blown
Like seriously all of them:
Wow, it’s a boom to the b-boom Igniting the bomb knuckle p-punch It’s about our chemistry that never stops A hulk that is always mad Until we’re all mad I’m breaking it all apart Pump pump from adrenaline, adrenaline rush I can almost feel excitement flowing Through my deep blood, man Never let it fade, keep it going on Cause the music is what pumps it and The beat continues on and on man Why are they doubting, TY? How have we done it Can’t you just see why? How we worked crazy for it Always kept the music going, Kept our bars without no limit and Even turned crazy for it, right
4. Baby don’t like it: (why did he write this lmao)
THIS:
Baby, is it me or are you Doing something to me? When you smile, it’s shining But for some reason, inside you’re lying Dangerously, you’re beautiful You slowly came to me, my dilemma Like a habit, I’m already looking for your hand that’s not there What’s scary is the way you talk What gives me goosebumps is when you smile My focus, my control is all you, uh oh But the problem is, I don’t hate it, oh no I like it when we get closer, when it gets risky Only when you hold my hand, it feels like I have started When I’m with you, Danger seems like a good thing Whether it’s the wrong or right answer You decide for me girl
5. My first and last: (he wrote)
Let’s talk about love Let me talk about love Yeah I’m talking about you Yeah I’m talking about you
6. Trigger the fever: (he wrote)
One person’s shout, I hope the echo is there every day, If all the hearts are the same, I hope there will be an answer
7. Cherry bomb: (he wrote)
This lit verse:
Uh Hard rock scalp Head shot pop No talk, being humble wherever you go I applaud those who explore around Ay because of you, I realized I don’t like being chased so I’m telling you upfront I won’t bow to you Keep watching, every day, they want me to watch Hater hater talk talk Whatever I eat, I digest well if it’s yours Take a fist or stone or a gunshot We’ve gotten stronger, NINE, catch our Cherry bomb
8. Go: (he wrote)
If no one can understand me, Then my dream will make you understand
9. Yestoday: (he wrote)
His entire verse is my favourite:
Okay back inside my 156 bus Kinda feel like thinking back Time passes by so fast I remember the time When we tossed our lives just like wishing coins Boy didn’t know a lot, I think I’m still the same I’m still searching for my galaxy, still don’t know my screen Drowning in looks that are getting worse Getting more spotlight than sunlight everyday Makes me think about how Rap is my new 156 For the future traded yesterday If memories made me Then we make today I hope you like it where I’m now
10. Chain: (he didn’t write)
This:
Everything that merely moves throughout this world Is super effective Rhythm, beat, melody, we make you so crazy Now what’s up flash! Satisfyingly effective Change is electric Yeah, it’s so electric
This:
Baby, now you gonna be crazy Don’t waste it and choose it now, yeah Believe and just do it
And this:
Hey, are you ready to go? Yeah, there is no fear Yeah, there is no fear
11. We go up: (he wrote)
I can remember your light wherever I am Keep going, we’re the same, wild and free I put the wheels on my board, I danced Let’s go on a faster ride, let’s go
12. Dear Dream: (he wrote)
this verse:
Waking up and looking back at my heart that was distracted This song I see I hope it’s not blurry when I look back at it later I want to know how to color it dark I don’t need to know already I still can’t believe it I see the window of the car we used to ride together Everything around is Looking like a blur just like the outside, movements are fast I guess at one point we followed the speed of the car But honestly I think I’ve stopped in the past That time will always be that time, hope it never fades out
and this:
This is only one part of something passing You can write this down, I believe you will pass on, this bookmark It’s more natural if you leave it to the flow But I don’t want this to sound like We’re about to depart If I ever get lost I wasn’t going to make it obvious Imma call back Don’t forget the tone I called you Chant it like we always did Hope we always feel like
13. Regular: (he wrote)
This verse:
I like shining, you be lyin' I be grindin', you waste time Know you wanna roll with me 'Cause you know I put it down
Also this line:
One way to Mars, you better watch yourself I did it all by myself
14. His solo teaser for SuperM: (I’m pretty sure he wrote this himself)
Too many adulates these days Imma try to tame these names Who the main of this game? I know you can’t stand my name And you know that, that won’t change Knew you from a mile away You won’t see me until I hit it in your face Imma ride like I know just where to be Look at the tire marks, they burnin on the streets Imma ride with my ego cause my ego screams Louder than this engine beep Catch me back when it leaks My feet on the pedal Smell it burning rubber Running on the gear On the wheel, looking at the real mirror Closer then they appear With no one be near This is how it feels to be super automobile in the kill Don’t ever try to come even close
15. Jopping (SuperM): (I don’t think he wrote this)
You think ya big boi, throwing three stacks I’mma a show you how to ball, you a mismatch Opinionated but I’m always spitting straight facts Throwback, I might throw this on an 8 track

Spooky.
I feel u if u wanna protest...
I feel u if u wanna riot...
I feel u if u wanna get involved...
I feel u if u wanna stay out of it...
I feel u if u wanna cry...
I feel u if u are hurt...
I feel u if u wanna hurt someone else...
I feel u if u are praying...
I feel u if u stopped praying...
I feel u if u hate folks like me...
I feel u if u hate folks who don't look like me...
But look:
We don't just need action,we need preparation and a tactical approach...
We don't just need guns,we need precision target practice and gun safety knowledge...
We don't just need government intervention,we need tha RIGHT elected officials in our CITIES...
We don't just need to burn tha established businesses to tha ground,we need to establish our own and support those...
We don't just need anger,we need compassion...
We don't just need God,we need tha Holy Spirit...
Seemingly, media wants to give off tha illusion that we are so divided and its solely race-based...i don't agree to dat...our division is a mentality based on racist principles dat tha country i live in,were founded upon...if someone tells me and my brother tha same information, but he doesn't use it to educate tha next brother,he may as well work for tha enemy...and once tha enemy sees who will work on their side, they can begin tha division...tha enemy has someone on his team dat looks like me,acts like me,dresses like me and maybe even grew up wit me...i would NEVER wanna fight against myself cuz i kno my best and worst moves...but i would strategize a way to take an evil "me" down from tha inside,out...maybe poisoning my apple juice slowly...point is,we KNOW police brutality and other racist acts will never stop...tha thing is,which instance is gonna b tha one dat makes us not only unite, but figure out a way to show we are equal...a mob of angry white protestors went and pushed and shoved law officials and nothin happened...a mob of peaceful black protestors in any situation tends to end with black people reeling back and covering their faces because of gas ans rubber bullets...I've had run-ins wit terrible police...I've had guns drawn on me by police and i didn't do anything...I've been to jail for possession and tha officer tore my car apart and didn't find a crumb of anything...I've been told by POLICE,dat he wishes things were like tha "old days when we could just take y'all out back and be through wit ya"...I've seen tha klan march down tha street...I've also had police help me out...I've been let out of tha back of a police car more than once...I've had cases dismissed...I've had cops stop just to check on me at my job...i kno white people who support me in any venture i pick up...all of us aynt all good...and all of them aynt all bad...but all of us who are on tha same team need to figure dis shyt out...burnin shyt up sends a message,yes...but burnin shyt up witout a way to provide tha next wave of what is lost is not a genius concept...if u think those riots are somethin, imagine a fully,thought-out and well-executed plan...imagine police bein hurt and not their vehicles...imagine a cop laid out for every person they attacked...yawl keep talkin bout coversations people aren't ready for!!...when we gon have tha conversation about what tha fuck we gon do?!?!...you're tired,I'm tired,cool...but guess what...tha enemy is tired of takin it light on us,yawl...we need to get together and make a plan...each major city...every fuckin state...my heart has been very heavy wit all dis stuff goin on and if u kno me,u kno my compassion for tha human race is at a peak...i don't care if we get along or not...i'm just sick of livin in a place where my mom is terrified everyday just cuz i am who i am...not a threat...not a criminal...not a thief...not a cheater...just a black man wit some wisdom in tha think tank...i think of Carter and Cam J everyday...and every day i wanna take a step towards makin tha world they live in a little bit better...i just can't do it alone...i love u all...

#TBT to 2016. . . I miss my long hair. I miss being showered with tire bits. I miss the stinging smell of burnin rubber. I miss the all around whackness that is FD. . . . I realized it will be extremely hard for me to probably attend any of the rounds this year because of school/the bar/job hunting. Welp, there will be more chances in the future. I hope 😅. You were tired. Beyond tired. The lactic acid in your tensed muscles burned more like battery acid and your teeth were clenched to the point that you thought they may shatter in your mouth like shards of glass. When you managed to pry your eyes open momentarily the edge of your vision was blindingly white.
 “Is he, well--?”
“We won’t know until the morning, his cells need time to rearrange.”
“And you think this rearrangement can get rid of his...his…”
“His curse. Because it appears to also manifest itself physically, this should help manage the symptoms that psychiatric care could not.”
“He just, well, he looks like he’s in so much pain.”
“The process isn’t easy, sir. These moments of struggle, however, are worth a lifetime of normalcy, or at least as normal as someone like him can be. Where’s his mother?”
“His mother won’t see him.”
“I see.”
“She’s...well, she’s a bit disturbed as well.”
“Mmm, I see. Well, nonetheless, he needs to rest tonight. Enough current has gone through his brain to light a 500 watt incandescent lamp. The nurses will be checking on him overnight to make sure no more convulsions occur. Let him rest for now, though. He should be exhausted enough to sleep through the night.”
Footsteps against a hard floor and the closing of a door and then silence. It took you a moment to remember where you were and why you were even here. Your “electroshock therapy,” or whatever the doctors called it, must be over. Your legs burned as if you had run miles uphill and were at odds with your brain which felt like it was coming out of the darkest slumber. You tried to take a deep breath but realized a leather strap ran across it tightly. You felt the familiar adrenaline rush of panic. Usually, this feeling would be accompanied by some strange event that no one could explain. You unlocked impossible locks to escape rooms, you broke a shelf of dishes a room away, or, if it was a particularly strong reaction, spontaneously set things ablaze. Now, though, you were too tired, far too tired. You let the muscles in your entire body relax in an orgasmic sort of release and fell back into the comfort of unconsciousness.
The next morning, you were woken by a nurse throwing open the curtains surrounding your bed. Light sliced through your eyes and immediately the knot of a headache began to form in your skull.
“Rise and shine, love.”    You still felt tired, but the absolute blackness of dreamless sleep seemed a bit clarifying. You also had a small seed of hope in your heart. Maybe, just maybe now you could be normal. Maybe people, even your parents, wouldn’t be scared of you.
“Let’s get up, the sooner you get your muscles moving again the better!” You looked at the clock. The nurse was far too cheerful for 7 a.m.
You slipped on your pants and sweater and noticed that your skin was red and shiny and looked almost burnt where the straps had been across your body. You stood up and wobbled for a minute, but with the nurses’ help you gained your legs enough to walk down the hall to meet your father. He was as unreadable as ever and looked you up and down with curiosity as you approached like he was already trying to determine if you had been fixed.
“Mum, I’m home,” you said softly at the bedroom door. Your father, still not speaking to you, urged with a nod to try again.
“Mum?” you knocked with your knuckles, “I’m back from the doctor.”
A low, ghastly groan came from the other side of the door. It sounded inhuman, or demonic, as people liked to say.
“Alright, you go in,” you father finally said.
You pushed open the heavy wooden door, leaning into it with all your weight. In the center of a huge room lay an iron bed. There was no other furniture in the room besides a small table which held an oil lamp. The walls were bare but for a wooden cross directly above the bed and one dirty window with the curtains drawn shut.
“Mum…” you stepped in slowly. Your father immediately slammed the door and locked it with a key, nearly catching your arm. The sound seemed only to annoy the figure lying in the bed which again moaned loudly.
“Mum..I...I think the treatment may have worked,” you inched across the worn wooden floor trying to mask your terror with a cautious smile, “And the nurse said that, well, if you want to that is, that possibly...if it’s successful on me, they may be able to help you too.”
You felt something grab you by the collar, though all that was there seemed to be air. Your mother reached a withered, bony hand from under the blankets and was holding out a fountain pen like some sort of wand.
“W-where did you get that…?” you said nervously. She wasn’t supposed to have any sort of sharp objects at all, or anything that resembled a stick or rod.
She flicked the fountain pen, sending a spray of ink like black blood across the floor and you flew towards her as if someone had pushed you in the back. She flicked it again and you fell to your knees, legs locked together. This time the ink had splattered across your face.
“Mum, you’re not s-supposed to…”
“You’re not normal,” she said with a sandpapery voice.
“What?”
“You’ll never be normal. You’ll never be like they want you to be. You’re like me,” her voice was small but loaded with hatred, “They’ll want to change you, but they never will. They never will!”
She flicked the pen again and you crashed into the opposite wall. She had never been this strong before. She’d never had someone to channel her power.
“Mother...stop…” you pleaded, trying to remain calm. You didn’t want to feed her with your own fear.
“You’re better off dead than living in this world,” she spat.
“No...you’re wrong. I’m going to get better.”
“You’ll never be like them.”
“Maybe I don’t have to be.”
“What’s going on in there!?” your father asked through the door.
“Nothing--” you tried to reply, but were cut off by another invisible blow, this time to the center of your stomach. You tried to stand up, your instinct was to run, to get away from this as soon as possible. Before you could pull yourself to your feet, your mother had begun to speak again. It sounded like some ancient language, like Latin.
“Crucio.”
In a moment you were sure that you were once again getting electroshock therapy, this time fully conscious. Every nerve ending in your body felt like it was being filed away. Your bowels and stomach emptied their contents as you screamed the most primal sound you could make. The door slammed open, you heard your father scream and felt the floor rumble like an earthquake. Suddenly, the room was on fire and you weren’t sure if you couldn’t breathe because of the smoke or because of the pain.
The next time you awake it’s in an alley, with a trash bin blocking the bitterly cold wind with colorful figures standing over you. They seemed to be two people in full-length jewel toned cloaks trimmed decoratively. Once again, you found yourself an observer of a conversation about you.
“But how’d it get this bad, Gertie? He’s half-dead!”
“We can’t track every single obscurial in the entire world.”
“Yeah, but really, now what? ‘is parents is dead. No orphanage is going to take ‘im at this age, and now the bleedin’ Ministry is gonna be on our arses for not catchin’ this sooner!”
“Calm down, Tim.”
“Calm down? I just had to risk me flippin’ life draggin’ this kid outta a burnin’ building! An’ now I’ll be facin’ an inquiry!”
“You weren’t going to die. I was there as well.”
“Ohh, my hero!”
“Just shut up for a minute. We need to figure out what to do with this boy. His life is the priority right now.”
“I saw we leave ‘em. Leave it up to nature.”
“That’s a horrible idea.”
“He don’t ‘ave any other family?”
“They’re not going to take him. The entire neighborhood is already starting rumors that it’s arson.”
“What about another wizardin’ family lookin’ to adopt?”
“It’s not that simple. But…”
“But what?”
“He’s school-aged, right?”
“Yer not thinkin’ of sending ‘im to Hogwarts?”
“I think it might be his only chance at a normal life. No way can he go back to the Muggle world now, and if we could find a family for him to stay with during the summers…”
“He’d be so behind everyone else!”
“Better than developing a full blown obscurus.”
They both went silent for a moment.
“ ‘Is mum was real powerful…”
“Which is exactly why we can’t risk the development of an obscurus. Then it won’t just be an inquiry, but our heads.” “Blimey…”
“Let’s just get him to the Leaky Cauldron and make sure he stays alive long enough.”
“Yea…”
You felt two hands grab each of your arms and, still pretending you were asleep, felt them pick you up slightly. There was immediately a great whooshing sound and you felt your entire being stretched like a rubber-band. Your eyes flew open and before you could blink you were standing in a completely different place.    You were in some kind of pub. Everything was cast with the golden glow of a giant hearth and a huge pile of metal steins shined from behind the bar.
“ ‘Es awake!”
The two robed figures turned to face you. The tall, pale on grabbed you by the shoulders, “My boy, are you alright?”
“Erm,” was all you could manage.
“Thank goodness you are conscious. Do you feel nauseous? Sick in any way?”
“Just...just tired. But, where am I?”
“The Leaky Cauldron, my boy. We’ll explain later. Right now you need to rest. You’re safe now.”
“Yer in good ‘ands!” the shorter wizard added with the warmest smile you had ever received.
“Who’s this?” a young, auburn-haired witch turned to face you from the bar. She had large, sparkling hazel eyes. She wore a maroon cloak with a twisting golden dragon embroidered around the hem.
“Ah, Madam Scamander.”
“That’s Miss to you, Gertie.”
“Miss Scamander, this ‘ere’s an Obscurial! Well, almost one. ‘Is whole family’s dead.”
Gertie elbowed Tim hard in the gut, causing Tim to fold forward and let out a steady stream of expletives like a punctured balloon lets out air.
“Is that so?” Miss Scamander’s eyes darkened and her friendly smile was gone, “I’m so, so sorry.” She looked you directly in the eye, something many throughout your life had been too terrified to do.
“What Tim means is that yes, he was close to developing an Obscurus, but it seems we found him in time. The rest is just noise for now as we need to find him a place to stay for a few days.”
“He can stay with me,” Miss Scamander offered immediately.
“What? That would be asking too much, Madam. Far too much of anyone. He needs constant supervision.”
“I’m home all the time, and now that Theseus’ graduated we have a spare room.”
Gertie and Tim looked at each other nervously and then to you.
“This is dangerous magic, Miss. We don’ even know if he’ll be fit for school. He don’ even know ‘imself the extent of ‘is powers.”
“My powers?” you cut in.
“Yes, your magic,” said Gertie softly.
“Magic?”
“Oh, you didn’t even explain things to him,” Miss Scamander gave a reprimanding glare to the two men aside you.
“Aw, come on! We jus’ picked ‘im up!”
“We just rescued him from a burning house, ma’am. We can straight here. Not really much time to--”
“Well, you’re a wizard,” Miss Scamander said to you, once again meeting your eyes.
“You don’t have to be so frank…” Gertie said, the wind blown from his sails. It was as if she’d ruined some big surprise.
“The pup might as well know,” Miss Scamander tucked a few strands of her bobbed hair behind her ear, “It’s good to know there are others like you.”
“Others...like me?” you dared.
Miss Scamander’s smile returned triumphantly as she nodded.
“Well, we still need to work out loding--”
“I told you, he can stay with me until the Ministry figures something out. If he was really that close to developing an Obscurus he certainly needs attention. Plus, Newt’s about the same age. He can teach him a little about our world.”
“Madam Scamander--”
“I insist. I can’t leave someone in need just like that. Especially not when I have plenty of room and food.”
“Erm…”
“C’mon, Gert! This could work out perfect!”
“I suppose…”
“That way we can say the boy is with, er, family. No inquiry today, mate!”
“Oh, fine,” Gertie conceded.
Miss Scamander clapped her hands together and stood up. Her skin was tanned and sun-spotted giving her a rather radiant glow.
“Alright, pup, let's get you home and washed up. You’re going to be just alright. More than alright, in fact.”
She reached a hand out to you and you clasped it with your own shaking one. Thoroughly confused, but attracted to her motherly disposition, you decided to trust her.

Buggy Popper: Games of the Retro-Bit Super Retro-Cade
Tumblr media
Data East, 1986
Many of you will know this game under another title. Probably Bump ‘n’ Jump. Maybe Burnin’ Rubber. I’m not sure why Retro-Bit elected to use the 1986 Japanese Famicom version of the game for this set, but it doesn’t really matter what it’s called, I suppose. You’ll have to deal with a couple of instances of Japanese text, but I’m sure you’d get the gist whether the flashing red sign had an exclamation point or kanji on it. Hit that jump button, or crash into the scenery. Buggy Popper is a pretty great game for its vintage, to be honest. The original arcade game was released in 1982 and its simple mechanics are still quite enjoyable to this day. Your goal is to safely guide your buggy to the end of each level. In addition to environmental hazards, you’ll have to deal with a limited fuel supply and some seriously aggressive fellow drivers.
Tumblr media
You can bump those cars if you want, but your best means of dealing with almost every problem in the game is to jump. Your car can leap high into the air at the touch of a button, allowing you to hop over obstacles and, satisfyingly, crush your fellow drivers underneath your tires. It’s a tough game, but it’s an awful lot of fun. As the game goes on, the stage layouts get more difficult to negotiate, and your enemies become more varied and deadly. It’s tense, fast, and feels great to master. A genuine arcade classic, competently ported and presented for your approval. Definitely worth running to now and then if you get tired of shoot-em-ups and brawlers.

NBA Summer Vacation Watch: Rookies and Olds
Welcome back, sun seekers! As the off-season continues to disappoint and remain highly eventful, summer vacation news of our favorite ballers stays strapped in the backseat of sports journalism. But as expressed in the inaugural edition of this column, I have you covered, even as all other reputable sources fail. We will live by the ancient motto "No shirt, no shoes, no problem," all summer long.
If there's one thing I've learned about NBA summer vacations, it's that rookies really know how to do it sometimes. A combination of not really having a clue and not a lot of responsibility can make for an excellent use of downtime. Let's catch up with a few of the NBA's future best and brightest.

Interview
USA April 1984
She's the hottest, shrewdest be-bop darling on the pop charts - a crossover dream with a powerful, girlie-sweet voice and the best dancer/performer since Michael Jackson: hip enough for the attitude of the Lower East Side, hep enough for the thousands of East Coast fans in the nightclubs who've seen her show or the "Burnin' Up" video. Although there are plans to form a band, Madonna (her given name) currently performs to a pre-recorded rhythm track, with three back-up dancers who mimic her lead in a sort of Raggedy Ann, "Solid Gold-gone-berserk" choreography: a very happy dance. A product of Detroit, Madonna is endowed with a geniune dose of Motown. Good grades and great dancing earned her a scholarship to the University of Michigan's dance program, and from there she headed to New York, where she danced and starved in the Alvin Ailey School and the Pear Lang Dance Company. Next she became a back-up singer/dancer for a European tour of Patrick Hernandez whose manager recognized her potential immediately and sent her off to Paris, "where we make big star." Things became a little too comfortable, and after a great deal of ennui and money spent, Madonna returned to the East Village with the idea of joining a new wave band. Making a demo of original material, Madonna hustled the tape until Mark Kamins, the disc jockey at Danceteria, finally played and then produced it. The song, "Everynody," became a club favorite and her first single, followed by "Holiday," "Physical Attraction," "Burnin' Up," and most recently, "Borderline." Her album, "Madonna," (Warner/Sire) was released last summer. Currently managed by Fred DeMann (Michael Jackson's ex-manager), Madonna will make her film debut in Jon Peters' "Visionquest" this August.
I met with Madonna in the Sigma Sound Recording Studio on West 50th Street where her beau, John “Jellybean” Benitez (Fun House DJ and NY’s most sought after mixer) was just leaving. Madonna: I'm remixing "Borderline," the next single we're releasing. We're doing a seven-inch and a dance mix... It's been a really long day: if it looks like I haven't slept in three days it's because I haven't. Glenn Albin: Tell me about your film Visionquest. M: We shot it in Spokane, Washington. It was very cold, lonely and boring. I do three new songs, two that I wrote and one other that's a ballad. Jon (Peters) and I met for another movie that he's producing, and when it came time for Vision Quest, they didn't want to get an actress to pretend she's a singer. They wanted someone with a lot of style already.
GA: You met Barbra Streisand through Jon Peters. How was your meeting with her? M: Oh, it was great. I had dinner at her house and she was genuinely ineterested in an exchange as one singer to another. I had this rag tied in my hair the way I do, and she wanted to know everything about the way I dressed, the jewelry I wore, the way I sang, about how I grew up in Detroit. GA: What do you think of people comparing you to Frances Farmer, and the new Monroe? But the best one I heard today - Baby Dietrich. M: That's what Scuvallo called me. I was lying on the floor posing for photographs and he's going, "Lower your eyelids," and so I did that and he's saying, "Oh my God, it's Baby Dietrich." I couldn't stop laughing. Everyone gets compared. GA: So what about the kids you grew up with, the black kids in Detroit? I mean, you come from a house with eight kids and a housekeeper.
M: Housekeeper meaning a big, fat black maid that made dinner for us, not this hoity-toity girl in a little white apron. GA: The point is that you come from a different part of town than these kids who were your friends M: No, they lived right down the street. I grew up in Pontiac, and it was during the riots and all the black people, the black families were coming into the neighbroughood, and all the white families were freaking out and moving out. That was during the '60s when all the looting and stuff was going on. We were one of the families that didn't move.
GA: So this is where your "soul" came from, from Pontiac? Just living in Detroit you obviously have pride for Motown, but it's got to be more. M: Well, you see, I went to the Catholic school there. I had to get bused there from the neighborhood I lived in, and most of the kids that lived down the block went to the local public school. So, I'd come home in my uniform, but I didn't hang out with the girls in my school. GA: And you sat on their stoop and you did stuff together? M: Yeah, and they were always playing records, those little portable old 45s that you could carry together like a suitcase; they just stuck them out on their front porch or in their driveways. GA: And that was your first place to dance? M: Yeah. And they didn't have to go in to eat dinner or anything. I thought that was great. I envied them. They didn't have any rules. GA: When was the last time you were back? M: This Thanksgiving. I called my father from Washington where we were shooting the movie and said, "Jellybean's with me and we're coming to Detroit, so be ready." I came home with black pants, a black T-shirt, no jewelry at all and my hair just sort of not combed - that's pretty conservative. No boots or spiked or anything, and my father spent most of the time looking at me, going, "You always dress like that? Is that a costume?" GA: What's your music about? M: It's all about escapism. To make people forget about the problems of the world. It's just to cheer people up. People go out to dance to get away and forget about their problems, like a holiday, and that's what the music's about - to get together and forget. GA: The East Village today is the scene like Greenwich Village was in the '50s, but it seems to be much more fashion-oriented. M: It is. It's fashionable to "slum." To live with five people in an apartment and to wear the same outfit every day, to never comb your hair and to live on jellybeans - no pun intended. You know, half the people I hung out with from the downtown area have totally snubbed me. They think that I'm selling out and stuff. If I go back to clubs they won't talk to me. Nasty little digs like, "Little Madonna, now she's a big star and she can't talk to us." That's why I don't feel a real unity with all those people, becuase half of them have totally ousted me anyway. They say like, "Oh, she never really hung out anyway, she's not really downtown." GA: But you obviously still go out. M: When I'm around weekends and I'm not too tired. Saturday night at the Roxy are great now. I go to the Fun House, too. GA: What gives you confidence, which you seem to have in abundance? M: Well, I grew up in a really big family and in an environment where you had to get over it to be heard. I was like the she-devil. GA: I suppose you were the loudest? M: Yeah. My father used to pay us money for the grades we got on our report cards, and he geared me up for being competitive when I was really young. My mother died when I was really young so I didn't have this image of what feminine girls do or anything. And my father never brought me up to get married and have kids, he atually braught me up to be very goal-orianted, to be a lawyer or doctor and study, study, study. We didn't get allowances, but we definitely got rewards for achieving. And I have all these brothers and sisters so, of course, I sought out the opportunity to be number one all the time. I got the best grades, straight A's. Subsequently, all my brothers and sisters hated me. GA: Did you fight with them? M: All the time. I was the tattletale of the family. I was the rat-fink. I had my father wrapped around my finger. No, no, I mean I was the oldest girl. I had two older brothers, but they would skip classes all the time. They were really bad boys. GA: What sort of music did you listen to when you were growing up? M: When I was growing up, my older brothers were into hard rock and I hated it. And they would purposely scratch the needle across my pop records, like my Incense and Peppermints record, and my Gary Pucket Young Girl Get Out of My Mind record, and they would tell me it was trash, and say, "Get that sh*t out of here." Then they'd put on something like Mahavishnu Orchestra. GA: What's "Boy Toy" on your belt buckle? M: It's my tag name. It's what I am when I write graffiti... I like nicknames. I think Jellybean's got the best one though. The name of my publishing company is "Webo Girl." It's actually a direct translation: "Webo" means "Ball shaker" in Spanish. But it's the name of a dance... like the Smurf. It's the way everybody was dancing awhile ago, and I named my publishing company that because me and this girl Debbie and this girl Claudia were the only white girls that could Webo at the Roxy. And Kano, the graffiti artist, painted on the back of our jackets, one of the painting, one of his pieces and it said, "Webo Gals." And that was the name of our group. GA: Do you envision a time when they'll be marketing the Madonna Doll? M: The doll who's hair you don't have to comb. GA: With little rubber bracelets and a drawstring in the back. M: And the only thong she says is, "Stop pulling my hair." "Leave me alone," "How much money do you make?" or "Come here, little boy."

When Tires Need Burnin’, Petty’s Challenger Keeps Burnin’!
Late-model Challengers are cars of many “est’s.” Sometimes this is a good thing, sometimes not so much. When parked next to a new Camaro or Mustang, the Challenger measures the longest, widest, tallest, and heaviest. No bueno. Nevertheless, with 392 cubic inches and 485 hp on tap, the Scat Pack Challenger upholds traditional muscle car values with the utmost conviction by boasting the biggest and brawniest naturally aspirated motor of the trio. It just happens to be wrapped in the prettiest sheetmetal, too. Muy bueno. The best way to add mas bueno to the formula is by infusing some more spice into the Challenger’s suspension. For the sake of Mopar pride, General Tire (a subsidiary of Continental) and Petty’s Garage teamed up to build the ultimate 2016 Scat Pack Challenger capable of whooping Camaros and Mustangs in battlefields both straight and twisty.
At first blush, the brash graphic treatment here may look like a gimmick, but there’s nothing gimmicky about a 700hp supercharged Hemi Challenger—painted Petty Blue—built by Richard Petty’s own shop, Petty’s Garage. Unlike the stripe and wheel packages that gussied up many a promotional vehicle of yore, the General Tire Challenger oozes authentic hot rodding DNA from every single one of its mechanically enhanced chromosomes. Evidently, there are some real car guys at General Tire who knew exactly what to do when tasked with promoting the company’s new partnership with ARCA. What better way to celebrate General Tire’s new role as the official tire supplier of the grassroots circle track series than by building a modern-day tribute to the legendary Mopars from stock car racing history?
Easy answer: There is no better way. “When our General Tire brand started sponsoring ARCA in 2016, we wanted to mark the occasion by building something that paid tribute to the rich history of circle track racing at the grassroots level, so working with Richard Petty was a no-brainer,” Greg Vandermark of parent company Continental Tires explains. “The Mopars Richard Petty dominated the sport in are some of the most legendary cars in racing history, and we wanted a car built in the likeness of Richard’s race cars. We also wanted a car that showcases the performance of General Tire’s new G-Max AS-03 and upcoming AS-05 performance all-season tires. These are the top-of-the-line tires for the brand, and the Challenger’s supercharged Hemi and Petty-tuned suspension can certainly put them to the test.”
Getting 700 hp and 675 lb-ft of torque to hook through an independent rear suspension and 275mm-wide tires is no small feat. Likewise, Chrysler’s LX/LC platform in stock form isn’t exactly known for its athleticism. Addressing both, Petty’s Garage offers a full catalog of bolt-on suspension upgrades for Challengers, Chargers, and Chrysler 300Cs. To stiffen up the chassis for the additional loads it’s destined to endure, Petty’s Garage installed a set of braces between the front struts and rear shocks. Taking advantage of that extra stiffness are double-adjustable coilovers as well as three-way adjustable sway bars that measure 35mm up front and 22mm out back. Polyurethane bushings replace the squirmy rubber units to anchor the rear cradle more solidly in place and reduce wheel hop. Sticking it all to the pavement is General Tire G-Max AS-03 rubber wrapped around 20-inch Forgeline SC3C wheels.
Just like a good circle track machine, the Challenger’s handling is neither tight nor loose. The 4,200-pound Mopar just flat-out grips. “Since the Challenger is so much heavier than a Camaro or Mustang, one of our primary goals with this car was to significantly improve the handling. Getting power out of these new Hemi motors and tuning them right takes a fair amount of expertise, but getting LX and LC cars to handle like a true performance car is a huge challenge that took a lot of effort,” says Will Cheek of Petty’s Garage. “The before and after difference in handling is night and day. The car itself is a one-off build, but all the suspension parts are available off the shelf on our website.”
Sure, precise handling is nice, but any car that wears the Challenger nameplate must go fast in a straight line. With 392 cubic inches of Hemi shuddering beneath the shaker hood, Scat Pack Challengers are pretty darn stout from the factory, ripping mid-12-second e.t.’s in stock trim. Petty’s Garage upped the ante even more by installing a Magnuson supercharger system set to eight psi of boost. Getting the exhaust molecules moving more freely are a set of Kooks long-tube headers and a MagnaFlow after-cat exhaust system. These simple yet effective tweaks increase output to 700 horsepower and 675 lb-ft.
While the tough guy in all of us can pretend like performance is the only thing that matters, it’s impossible not to go ga-ga over the Challenger’s retro paint and graphics. Inspired by the greatest Mopar race machines ever piloted by the King, Petty’s Garage started the transformation by spraying the car in a fresh coat of BASF/RM Petty Blue paint. Other body enhancements include a custom rear fascia and a functional rear spoiler that looks like it’s been pulled straight off of a Cup car. Of course, there are stock car-style sponsor graphics running behind the front wheel arches, as well as the legendary number 43 graphics applied to the doors.
Undoubtedly, cynics will declare that the General Tire Challenger is just the latest car in a long line of one-off or limited-edition models that a famous racer signed off on after it was already finished. Little do these tools know that the winningest driver in NASCAR history doesn’t just attached his name—and the legacy of seven championships and 200 race wins that come with it—to any run-of-the-mill machine.
Rest assured that Richard Petty himself played a very active role in the car’s development. “Richard didn’t just want to put a supercharger on the car and call it a day. He really encouraged us to build an all-around performance car along with a suspension package that could handle all that power,” Cheek recounts. “Richard’s a big fan of the single-outlet center exhaust, and he really pushed us to do it. In order to make that happen, we took an off-the-shelf MagnaFlow exhaust system, then merged the tailpipes together off each side of the car to create a single center outlet. This required modifying the floorboard and building a custom rear fascia around the exhaust outlet.”
After Petty’s Garage put the finishing touches on the Challenger and delivered it to General Tire, the car has lived a busy life of touring the ARCA race schedule. At events, it shares the stage next to one of Richard Petty’s infamous Road Runner stock cars in a retro-themed display. Instead of giving the car away to just one lucky winner, General Tire plans on auctioning the car off. Part of the proceeds will help fund the next project car, but more importantly, a generous portion of the proceeds will get donated to Victory Junction. Founded by the Petty family in honor of Richard’s late grandson, Adam, the race-themed camp gives children who face challenging medical conditions the opportunity to experience camp just like any other kid.
As a young teenager who was wise beyond his years, Adam Petty dreamed of building a camp like Victory Junction in scenic North Carolina. Unfortunately, Adam tragically lost his life in a racing accident at just 19 years of age, but his dream lived on. With the help of their friends and the racing community, the Petty family banded together and opened the gates to Victory Junction in 2004.
The Petty legacy runs deep, spanning four generations of racers, and some of the most iconic race cars in all of motorsports. On the surface, the General Tire/Petty’s Garage collaboration elevates the Challenger platform to a 700hp supercharged beast capable of whooping Camaros and Mustangs in battlefields both straight and twisty. Beyond the machinery, however, is a car that doesn’t just tap into the Petty legacy, it also vows to keep it going in more ways than one.
Even with the Magnuson supercharger bolted in place, the Shaker hood ducting remains functional—a pretty significant feat. The adjustment knobs for the front struts are within easy reach.
As legend has it, one day when Richard Petty and his friend were painting his race car, they realized they had some leftover cans of blue and white, but not enough of each to paint the car one solid color. Their solution was mixing the blue and white cans together. Petty Blue would become so popular that today the color is trademarked.
The impetus behind the General Tire Challenger is the company’s new G-Max AS-03 and AS-05 all-season performance tire family, worn proudly here in a 275/45R20 footprint on a 20 x 9.5-inch Forgeline roller.
The cabin features a Barton Industries shifter and Petty’s Garage floormats. The headrests are custom embroidered with the Petty’s Garage logo as well.
To create the slick single-outlet exhaust, Petty’s garage modified the tailpipes of an off-the-shelf MagnaFlow system. In essence, it’s a true dual system whose driver- and passenger-side tailpipes merge into a single center outlet.
Built from 4130 chrome-moly tubing, the rear shock tower brace weighs just 6.8 pounds, yet substantially stiffens the chassis. Instead of merely attaching both shock towers together, the brace triangulates chassis load into the framerail behind the rear seat.

I don't want to alarm anyone but baby Bruno has been at it all summer so far. My boy picked up a new broom, looked jacked in an IHOP, and hit the beach with another fun-loving Raptors rookie, Lucas Riva Amarante "Bebê" Nogueira, resplendent in sunset gradient boardshorts that made me, for a minute, not focus on what the hell are those two doing in Santa Monica—guys, get the hell away from L.A.
Rating: 2 years away from being 2 years away from the best summer vacation of his life
Permanent Vacation
This off-season has blessed two separate NBA legacies with indefinite vacations. But there is a yin and yang to the long holiday, and it's worth examining the probable results of these two sides of the sabbatical coin.
Phil Jackson
Though he may yet have a coaching career somewhere in front of him, for now it seems improbable that any team would want to scoop up this twisted tire-fire starter anytime soon. Thus, Phil may be looking at an unfolding vista of free time to fill with trips to his favorite Thai place in Sioux City. If I may suggest a vacation for you, Phil, how about Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance-ing the biggest triangle of them all, with a trip to Bermuda!
Rating: Extremely dark and incredibly broke
Paul Pierce
The truth is The Truth is having the time of his life, and doesn't need vacation advice from anybody. Paul Pierce started his symbolic waived contract of a summer vacation by being seated next to Nicki Minaj at the NBA Awards and will likely, hopefully, spend the rest of his days hanging out with KG and calling out hypothetical trades as a broadcaster, using himself as the guy you would or wouldn't get in return, a.k.a. bottling cold-pressed #truthjuice forever.
Rating: 5 copy-and-pasted rocket ship emojis executed on 2 phones—a perfect 10

Yogi Ferrell
Mavericks point guard and big fan of burnin' rubber Kevin Duane "Yogi" Ferrell was at the Texas Motor Speedway to take in IndyCar's Rainguard Water Sealers 600 and meet 77-year-old Mario Andretti. I wish there was a picture of Yogi in the car to see once and for all how deep those seats are, but life on the track's a mystery, as they say.
Rating: 3 scorched tires out of 4
Willy Hernangómez
Speaking of tire fires, you have to wish the best for lil' Will: once his summer frolics come to a close, he's probably going back to his scorched-earth team in the fall. (Will we have to get a #FreeWilly hashtag going? Just look at his smile and tell me you aren't concerned for him.)
Willy is the only NBA player we've seen on a jet ski this off-season thus far, tearing around off the coast of one of the Canary Islands no less, but don't panic, it's only almost July.
Rating: 3 lil surfboard emoji guys minus 1 missed opportunity to post a YouTube link to the 'Big Willie Style' video
Marshall Plumlee
Honestly I had to Google "which Plumlee youngest" and was, as ever with a Plumlee, disappointed by the results. Marshall is in Yonkers and got a guitar? Cool.
Rating: Minus 2 for high socks and being a Plumlee, plus 1 for tagging Justin Holiday who did not respond
Marcus Georges-Hunt
Yes, Marcus! Live your whole summer Moving Like Bernie in the hyperbaric chamber of a resort pool in the Dominican Republic, taking leave of it only to pose on the beach with a macaw on your head and a monkey in your hand. Gazing through the watery shroud we ask, "Are those hot dogs on his swim trunks?" and venturing forth in his slideshow we are graced with the answer: allover hot dogs.
Rating: All the fixings, those nice grill marks and little slices on the top, a sizzling sound—truly top dog
Jaylen Brown
Jaylen was in Córdoba, Spain, kicking the ball around. Then he met Chris Tucker and drank what looks like champagne out of a small plastic cup. You are a credit to Boston and to summer vacations.
