when you want to use incognito mode for something you don't want in your browsing history but you forget to open incognito and that thing you wanted for incognito is now in your history and you have to shamefully erase it out of there when you're done

Hotspot history is a list of your past Wi-Fi connections on your phone. You should delete it to keep your internet activity private and secure.
The person who owns the WiFi network, ISP, has the ability to see what you search for and the websites you visit, even if you use incognito mode. Additionally, the owner of the router can find this information in the router logs.

4t2 Rusty Elliette & Victoria Suits
I put these in the same post because they come from the same set, found here. As with most outfits I do these days, I only did a subset of the swatches, but I did use the same colors for both sets. However... I did do them for different age groups (sorry).
Rusty Elliette Suit: TF-EF, all appropriate morphs, 12 swatches. DOWNLOAD
Rusty Victoria Suit: AU-EU, elders use adult mesh, all appropriate morphs, 12 swatches. DOWNLOAD

I figure you might know this: is there any connection between historic poisonous makeup / skin cream, and the tendency of modern skin whitening creams to have high heavy metal levels? Like, one paper suggested that the high mercury levels of black US women are explicable by (illegally imported) creams and not e.g. pollution. Does mercury/ lead / arsenic actually improve skin somehow, or is it a contaminant, or what?!
Yikes! I always feel awful for people who are subject to those pressures- for light-skinned women, we're told to set ourselves up for cancer by tanning, and dark-skinned women are pressed to use poisonous bleaching creams. It's not the SAME pressure, since one has the weight of systemic racism behind it, of course. I just find it interesting (in a sad way) that no matter what skin tone you have, someone wants you to harm yourself to change it.
That said, I don't know much about skin-bleaching agents in the past (besides lemon juice for getting rid of freckles, which is a great way to badly sunburn yourself). Venetian ceruse and other white lead "foundations" were basically just a translucent white paint, not a skin product. The lead was only to get the white color. They were also not as commonly used- at least in the 16th century and later -as people often think today. The dangers were pretty well-known, if not fully understood, to the point where the 1760 death of unpopular socialite Maria Gunning was blamed on white lead makeup. A story which is still widely believed, even though I found no solid evidence for it being anything but slander.
The arsenic thing came from an 1851 scientific paper by Johann Jakob von Tschudi, in which he described Alpine peasants slowly acclimating themselves to larger and larger doses of arsenic over years. He speculated that the lovely complexions of women and girls in these villages might be due to arsenic-eating, though by what mechanism is unclear- long-term arsenic exposure actually darkens the skin, something Europeans at the time would not have held in high regard. Still, the beauty industry picked this up and unscrupulous companies began selling arsenic "complexion wafers," which made pretty much every skincare claim under the sun: they were good for acne, freckles, redness, roughness, oily skin, wrinkles...you name it. Of course, the fact that these companies were so unscrupulous probably saved women who believed the claims of "safe dosage" on the packaging- an 1893 study of one popular brand, in the Boston Journal of Health, found that the wafers contained nearly undetectable amounts of arsenic or none at all. That's just one brand, but it's not hard to imagine others doing likewise.
I know less about mercury in skincare/beauty products because you don't hear about it as much, but I did find evidence that it's been used in bleaching creams as far back as the early 20th century (again, targeting mostly women of color). Also that the use of cinnabar in some rouge preparations, in ancient Rome and Iberia, may have caused some mercury poisoning.
So yeah. Less related to the lead and arsenic history, but it seems mercury bleaching creams have at least a 100-year legacy. Horrifying.

Heyyyyyy, my parents are super passionate about an organization called the Alabaster Jar Project that helps victims of human trafficking integrate back into society. They're centered in San Diego, which is a hot spot for trafficking, so they all do as much as they can, but they're always looking for funding opportunities.
Harrah's Casino in SoCal is hosting a voting contest for several charities, and the winners get a BIG cash donation ($50,000!). The Alabaster Jar Project has been chosen to participate in it, and we REALLY need people to vote for it!
We'd super appreciate you voting for the Alabaster Jar Project in this fundraising campaign.
You don't need an account! You can vote right on the page, and the Alabaster Jar Project is the first option.

Thanks for helping us!! :)

I just reread some chapters and I just have to ask, in your opinion, why are Jake and Jerry so scared of my girl Luah😭 What did she do to them
Big Deal Shenanigans: Lua is back
Tumblr media
Jerry slams open the meeting room door, dripping with sweat. "Lua is back!"
Jake blinks, taking a moment to process then he stands up abruptly, chair falling back and hitting the ground with a clatter. "Lua is back?"
Jerry nods. "She's back."
Jason, a split second later, pops his head round the doorway, "Lua's back?!"
Jake confirms it. "Yeah, Lua is back."
"Who's back?" A second head appears around the doorway, Brad this time.
"Lua!" The men chorus.
"Lua?!" The blood drains from Brad's face.
"Who's Lua?"
Four heads simultaneously whip around to stare at Lineman. What a question.
.
.
"That's Lua," Jake whispers, as the Big Deal boys peer around the corner, heads stacked on top of one another with Jerry at the tippity top.
Lineman watches her walking down the barren street, suitcase rolling behind her. She looks very normal, all things considered. From the way they spoke about her, he was expecting something of a monster.
He tells the rest of the guys this and they all gasp in shock.
"You have no idea," Jason says as Jake mutters "No idea at all".
"She's a menace," Brad agrees, and the rest of the men nod their heads sagely.
"She can fight, she's not part of a harem, she's fiery," Their boss explains, situated at the bottom of the stack, and down on all fours.
Lineman scratches his head. He doesn't get why any of these are negatives.
"She has a..." Brad tries to suppress a shiver and fails, "a personality."
"Still a plot device," Jerry murmurs and the rest of the men look up at him in confusion, "Sorry," he offers, looking contrite, "didn't mean to break the fourth wall."

I keep seeing people respond to the Microsoft Recall bullshit with there's an ability to disable it and that misses the point. Several points in fact.
It's only a matter of time until an update bugs/"bugs" it and re-enables it without warning so people who had previously disabled it think they're in the clear until their info is leaked or they get a warning they're low on storage space.
If people don't have admin rights, they may not be able to disable it. Laptops given by work or school lock down what people can do with them, some going as far as dictating which browser one has to use on them. Even if you don't need admin rights to disable Recall, you may not have the ability to do so without losing the laptop and/or job and/or education.
I'm unsure of how it would handle multiple accounts but if it can be locked by someone else to always be enabled, children and people in abusive situations would also be unable to disable it. Even if it can't be locked, disabling it could result in punishment from a parent or the abuser.
Is it really disabled or is it "disabled" in that what the user sees is it being disabled while it's still collecting information and/or sending information to Microsoft in the background?
Such a feature should never have been automatically enabled in the first place. It's bad, predatory design to have such a feature enabled from the start and to expect users AKA customers to go out of their way to look up and then opt-out of something.
If disabling it really disables it, it can still result in stress and concern that it's not. The vast majority of people do not have the skills or knowledge to look into the OS guts to give themselves peace of mind that it really truly is disabled.
I'm sure I'm missing some, too.
TLDR is disabling is a bandaid someone else may rip off for you, someone may hurt you if you use, it may not work at all except as a placebo, and should have never been needed in the first place.

After my phone spontaneously decided to go kaboom and took three years of photos, notes and passwords along with it, I had to start over with a completely clean slate on a new device.
Had to chuckle when I saw this :’)
