Grill, or To Be Grilled?
Surprise, surprise! Two brothers, Castin and Warren, share a lighthearted evening grilling together while reflecting on their relationships and teasing each other. (AU)
The courtyard was alive with the quiet hum of evening. Beyond its stone perimeter, the dense forest stretched endlessly, a sea of dark green. The afternoon horizon was something out of a painting, with hues of amber and rose, the kind of sunset that seemed painted just for moments like this.
In the center of the courtyard, a sturdy stone grill stood as the evening’s centerpiece. The smell was strong, blending with the aroma of spices and sizzling food. The grill itself was surrounded by wooden benches and a large table, ready to host whatever feast the brothers could muster.
Farther off, at a sturdy wooden table shaded by an overhanging vine trellis, Cupcake and the Baroness worked together in quiet concentration. The table was cluttered with papers, ink pots, and a single lamp, its soft glow already lit as the sunlight began to wane.
Back by the grill, Warren adjusted the skewers, while humming a familiar tune. Castin, standing beside him, was less focused. His attention shifting between the grill and the scene around them. He kept stealing glances toward the table where the women worked in calm silence.
“You know,” Castin said, “for someone who claims to enjoy cooking, you sure do look like you’re fighting a war over that meat.”
Warren didn’t look up, his eyes were intently fixed on the skewers, clearly overanalyzing it. “It’s called precision,” he replied. “Not that I’d expect someone like you to understand that. You’re more of a... hack-and-slash type.”
Castin let out a bark of laughter, clapping Warren on the shoulder, the Intacian-brotherly signal that all was well with the two men. “Careful, brother. That almost sounded like a compliment to my combat skills.”
“It wasn’t.” Warren’s lips twitched.
Castin leaned against the edge of the grill, arms crossed. “So, tell me, what’s the secret? Is it the skewers, or are you just trying to impress your cupcake over there?” He nodded subtly toward the table, his grin widening.
Warren paused for a beat, he turned to glance at Cupcake. A soft smile crept onto his face. He quickly masked it, returning his attention to the grill. “She’s already impressed,” he said simply.
Castin raised an eyebrow. “Oh, is that right? Because from where I’m standing, it looks like you’re working awfully hard for someone who doesn’t need to try.”
Warren gave Castin a sideways glance, the smirk on his face making it clear he wasn’t going to take the bait. “And from where I’m standing, it looks like you’ve done nothing but talk since we started.”
Castin grinned, raising his hands in a form of surrender. “Alright, alright. I’ll give you that one.” He grabbed a pair of tongs and moved to the other side of the grill, picking up a skewer. “But don’t expect me to go easy on you when it comes to taste. If this turns out bad, I’m blaming you entirely.”
“Fair enough,” Warren said, the two falling into a rhythm as they worked.
The skewers sizzled on the grill, their juices dripping and flaring against the embers below. Castin, with tongs in hand, poked at a skewer of vegetables with all the finesse of someone testing their sword against an invisible foe.
“Careful,” Warren said dryly, watching him out of the corner of his eye. “Those peppers might fight back..”
Castin snorted, giving the skewer a spin before setting it down on the plate. “You joke, but I’ve seen you burn toast. I’m not taking any chances.”
“That was once,” Warren replied, “And it wasn’t toast. It was bread, and it was intentional.”
“Oh, of course,” Castin said, while simultaneously giggling to himself. “Burnt bread. The signature dish of the great Warren the Gladiator. warrior, traveler, and culinary disaster.”
“You’re exhausting.”
The fire crackled in the evening air, the warmth from the grill mixing with the crisp night breeze. Castin flipped the skewers, the metal tongs gliding through the air like a seasoned warrior wielding a sword. He glanced over at his older brother, noticing the way Warren’s features softened every time his eyes landed on Cupcake. It was impossible not to see the way she effortlessly brought out that smile from him, the kind that Castin hadn’t seen much of before she came into his life. What had the councilwoman done to him?
"Don't start acting all sentimental now, Warren," Castin said, "I mean, come on. Look at you, all soft and gooey."
Warren’s lips curled into a grin, but his eyes were still on Cupcake, who was now leaned over the table, gesturing to a pile of papers with a focused intensity. The Baroness, sitting across from her, was equally absorbed in the work, though her occasional smiles betrayed the affection she held for the other woman. Castin didn't need to be told how much the councilwoman meant to Warren.
"I’m just saying," Warren muttered, not bothering to look at Castin, his attention fixed on Cupcake. “She makes everything easy.”
“Yeah, I see that. You’re practically glowing every time she looks your way. You’re not fooling anyone.”
Warren shook his head and chuckled at what he thought to be absurdity. “Maybe it’s just that I’ve found someone who actually makes sense of all the mess going on in Steelgate.”
Castin’s expression softened for a moment, and he glanced over at his wife, who was laughing softly at something Cupcake had said. Only reminding Castin of what the woman meant to him, always the calm in his storm. He could never quite explain it, but with her, he felt grounded in a way he hadn’t before. That warmth, that steadiness between them, had been there from the start, and now it only grew.
“Yeah, I know what you mean,” Castin said, his voice quieter. “I feel the same way about her.” He jerked his thumb in the direction of the Baroness. “I didn’t even know what it was like to have someone get me. Not like she does.”
Warren finally turned his head to look at Castin, and there was something more in his eyes now—something understanding. “I get it. I do.”
Castin gave him a sidelong glance. “Good, because you’re no fun when you’re being all tough and moody.”
Warren smirked, but it was genuine now, not the dry humor he usually carried. “Yeah, well, I’d blame you for that if I thought you weren’t enjoying watching me get soft.”
“Not soft,” Castin teased, waving the tongs. “Just... settled.”
Warren let out a quiet laugh, shaking his head. “Whatever you say.”
The silence between them was comfortable now. No more teasing or prodding—just the easy understanding of brothers who had been through their share of struggles and battles, but who were learning, in their own way, that life could be something more than just survival.
"So," Castin said after a while, his tone shifting slightly as he turned back to the grill, his eyes flickering toward Cupcake and the Baroness, “How’s she doing?” He didn’t need to say her name; they both knew who he meant.
“She’s great. She’s happy, Castin. And that’s enough for me.”
Castin knew exactly what his brother meant. They both knew that kind of happiness. Contentment that wasn’t just about having someone by your side, but about being with that person in a way that made everything else feel less important. That kind of ease was rare, and the two of them had found it in their own ways.
“You deserve it,” Castin muttered, his voice a little rougher than usual. “Both of you.”
Warren looked at him then, his smile slipping into something softer, more serious. “I know.”
Nothing in Steelgate, or any nation for that matter, had been the same since the abolishment of slavery. They were free, together at last, no longer afraid of the public eye. Or the firestorm it left in its wake. Warren could still hardly believe Cupcake had wanted to be with him after everything he'd put her through. Although, he tries not to question it too often, he just reminds himself to be grateful.
Just then, Cupcake looked up from the papers, her gaze meeting Warren’s across the distance. She smiled that smile of hers, radiant and effortless, a pearly smile, and it made Warren’s heart skip in that way that Castin had seen before, the way he could see it now, too. Castin couldn’t help but grin at the sight.
“Go on, she’s calling you.”
Warren didn’t need to be told twice. He stood, already walking towards her. “I’ll be back. Keep an eye on the skewers, will you?”
They met halfway, and for a moment, it was as if the world around them paused. Castin felt a jolt in his chest, a brief pang of something that felt oddly like pride.
Cupcake reached out, and Warren took her hand, their fingers curling together as if the world had suddenly become theirs. They didn’t need to say anything, everything between them was unspoken, woven into every touch, every glance, every shared moment of peace. Castin then brings his gaze elsewhere when Warren brings Cupcake into a deep kiss. Castin could tell, just from the way Warren’s smile softened when he looked at her, that this wasn’t just about love. It was something far more profound than that.
He let out a calm sigh. Back to the Baroness, who had turned her attention toward him for a brief moment. Her expression hadn’t changed much, always composed, always careful, but there was something in her eyes that Castin recognized, an unspoken understanding between them. It wasn’t love in the way others might see it. It was quieter, more contained. And yet, it was all-encompassing, like the ground beneath your feet that you never noticed until you tried to step away.
He returned her look with a nod, and though the moment was fleeting, Castin felt something inside him settle.
Warren and Cupcake, lost in their own world, didn’t notice the quiet exchange between the brothers. But Castin didn’t mind.
He was learning that sometimes, it was the things that were not said that spoke the loudest.
“So,” Warren said as he returned to the grill, his eyes still bright from the brief interaction, “We ready to eat?”
Castin grinned at him. “I thought you’d never ask.”
The evening had settled into a comfortable rhythm, the conversation now flowing naturally between the two brothers. The unpredictability of their pasts hadn’t gone away, he still carried the weight of it. But it didn’t seem as heavy tonight. The world felt manageable, grounded.
As the fire crackled and the last skewers sizzled, Castin’s thoughts drifted back to his wife, the Baroness. She was still sitting at the table with Cupcake, discussing something that had to do with sponsors, though there was a subtle shift in her demeanor when she looked up to catch Castin’s eye. He could tell she was content, and thankfully comfortable and it made his heart flutter with affection.
Cupcake was bent over her papers, pointing out something to the Baroness, and Castin could see the little moments of laughter they shared, those quiet exchanges that, to someone who didn’t know them, might seem insignificant. But to Castin, they spoke volumes.
“Alright, alright, let’s wrap this up. I can’t be out here all night while you play Mr. Perfect Husband.”
Warren looked up with an exaggerated sigh, “You’re just jealous because my wife’s better at paperwork than yours.” He was clearly trying to push Castin’s buttons, but Castin wasn’t biting.
“Oh, please. Like I’d need her help with something like that,” Castin said, his tone light but carrying the same underlying affection as always. “I’m perfectly capable of signing my own name. And when I need a woman’s opinion, I go to the Baroness. You know, the one who doesn’t give me that look when I mess up something simple. Pretty easy to get an honest opinion when you have a baller-shot caller of a wife.”
The Baroness tilted her head, her usual cool gaze softening when she looked at Castin. “You’re right,” she said, her voice quiet but steady. “The paperwork can wait for now, husband."
The words were almost soothing in their simplicity, and Castin felt a small but significant smile stretch across his face.
“See?” he said to Warren, his voice teasing but warm. “I’ve got it easy.”
Cupcake joined them soon after, walking toward the grill with that bright smile of hers, and Warren’s whole demeanor shifted in an instant, his focus now entirely on her, as if the entire world had condensed into just the two of them. Castin couldn’t help but shake his head, though his smile remained. It was something, seeing his older brother like this.
“Come on, let’s eat,” Cupcake said, her voice light and playful, with just a hint of authority. It was clear she wasn’t just speaking to Warren. She glanced at the two of them and motioned for them to join her at the table.
Castin pushed the grill lid down and handed over the last of the skewers, then turned to Warren with a smirk. “You know, I’d say we should sit this out, but you look too happy to be letting go of your lady for too long.”
Warren laughed, though it was a soft sound, and it made Castin realize just how much they’d changed over the years. The man who used to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders was now lighter, settled in his life with Cupcake, no longer running from whatever shadows lingered. And Castin could see the same thing in his own life, though it wasn’t as obvious.
“Alright, alright,” Warren said, as he followed Cupcake and Castin to the table. “But don’t get used to this. I’m not sharing my food with either of you.”
“Pfft,” Castin teased, waving a hand. “You’re lucky I’m even letting you off the hook. Just don’t expect to sit at my table when I’m in charge of the grill.”
“Oh, we’ve got plenty of time for that later,” Warren replied, his smile widening as he sat beside Cupcake. “Don’t worry, Castin. You’ll get your turn to grill, and complain about everything while doing it.”
As they sat down, the easy chatter of the night continued. Cupcake and Warren exchanged small jokes while the Baroness remained quiet, though her sharp eyes never strayed far from her husband. Castin, in the end, didn’t need much more than this, the warmth of the fire, the easy presence of those he cared about, and the simple joy of a meal shared with family.
It wasn’t the kind of life Castin had imagined for himself all those years ago, but it was the kind of life he’d come to appreciate, in all its quiet moments. There was something deeply fulfilling about being here, now, in this place, surrounded by the people who made everything seem worthwhile.
“So,” Castin started after a few moments of quiet, his eyes flicking to Warren and Cupcake, then to the Baroness, “I’m thinking about grabbing a new sword. Maybe one that’s more my style, y’know? Something a little less... standard.”
Warren snorted. “Just don’t start talking about new toys in front of her,” he teased, gesturing toward Cupcake. “You know she’ll try to buy you the most expensive one she can find.”
Castin laughed, though it was more of a huff. “Doesn’t matter,” he said. “The Baroness already knows that if it’s not worth having, I won’t bother.”
The Baroness gave a small, knowing smile, though she remained silent. The way she observed Castin sometimes, intently, as if she could see all the layers beneath the surface, made Castin wonder if she understood him more than he realized.
Cupcake, never one to let a comment slide, smiled at Warren. “Well, as long as you don’t start talking about buying anything that makes me feel like I’m married to a walking weapon, I think we’re good.”
The conversation carried on with the usual back-and-forth, their teasing light-hearted and comfortable. In these moments, with the rest of the night ahead, everything felt right.

I love AU where Yuuji is Sukuna baby brother but I think the reverse have such a hilarious potential. Edgy teen Sukuna and his big brother Yuuji who try to make him see the good side of life
Or angst where Sukuna is depressed and Yuuji have the same objective

I’m gonna be sharing my Owl House Wips and Aus for a while now that it’s over and I’m definitely hyper fixating on them.
Brother Au
Hunter is the first child Manny and Camila adopted when they assumed they couldn’t have children together. Two years later, to their surprise they have Luz. They grow up as brother and sister and bond with each other, Hunter even taking over more responsibilities when Manny passed away because he was determined not to let Camila falter or his little sister be sad for too long. He tends to ignore his own feelings on the matter and his insecurities of proving his place once he realized/found out he was adopted.
When Luz goes to camp Hunter feels bad but hopes that she will make some friends. When the letters start coming back he finds them suspicious, (she spelled her own name wrong?) but it sounded like she was having fun so maybe she was distracted? When ‘Luz’ returns he feels like she’s not even the same person anymore, but Camila just thinks the camp changed her so he has to accept it. But it’s hard to see his super active and loving little sister so distant with him and she doesn’t have any of her old habits.
When they finally find out Vee is a basilisk, Hunter doesn’t take it nearly as well as Camila.
Basically Luz is living the same life in the demon realm, but the story would focus on everything with Hunter, Camila, Luz, and Vee.
I’m not sure if someone would replace Hunter or if his role would be ignored yet.

Y!Royalty Veins!AU
Tumblr media
HELLO THERE! IT'S ME! >:D
So, head ups this ramble will have some mentions of violence, kidnap, and murder! Be warned!
Also, this deals with yandere themes and in no way, shape, or form am I encouraging this! This is fiction and not meant to be taken seriously! Report or call for help if this happens in real life!
Okay, warnings over now onto the context to this ramble!
Main AU Plot Points -
So, first off, I'm making this clear (if you haven't read the tags) that Izuku and Tomura are related! Yandere Tomura is strictly a platonic yandere not romantic! So, please don't come after me. :D
Izuku and Tomura are both reincarnations from KNY that have been reborn in MHA.
Now, I'm still unsure if I should make them a reincarnation of actual KnY characters or just that they lived in the same period as demons or were supporting characters. I'm leaning on not making them actual characters because I have an idea on how their past lives went, here's what I got:
Izuku was to be wed to a woman of higher status, Izuku was and still is the younger of the two, Tenko back then was an odd fellow. He was very protective of his younger brother and while he didn't like Izuku's fiance, he didn't disapprove of the marriage towards the end because the girl was genuine nice and made his little brother smile and feel loved.
Someone worth of tolerance.
However, there wedding never happened after a demon, maybe an upper or lower moon that resembles All for One, crashed into their little home, and, at a desperate attempt to keep Tenko alive, Izuku sacrificed himself to let Tenko live.
Why?
Izuku loved his big brother, he kept him alive, and took care of him when they were younger. Their parents died of an illness and they were rather poor but they made do with what they had. Izuku felt, during the moment, like it was his turn to protect Tenko after having being a supposed burden on him.
He wasn't.
Izuku was more kinder and docile between the two but carried a fierce and determined charisma despite being smaller than average. Which is how he was able to score someone of higher status, she fell in love by Izuku's kindness and determination despite being lesser than her.
Tenko was more quiet and brash, spiting out words of cruelty, and disliking anyone and everyone. He was rumoured to be a rude and mean big brother. However, the fiance was determined to marry Izuku despite the rumours Tenko had. She grew to like how protective and soft he was with his little brother and at some point she won over, well scored, Tenko's trust on letting her marry Izuku!
The demon accident, left the two distraught and while people blamed Tenko, the fiance did not, she helped Tenko move and escape his ceil and while she married into another household, she never stopped loving Izuku. She was unhappy with the marriage and at some point took her own life.
Tenko on the other hand, ran far away, and carried hatred and disgust after the accident. He felt empty and hallow and never once tried to open up again. He cared for Izuku very much, he was the older of the two! He was a big brother and yet he failed to do his job right.
Tomura grew up and became a demon slayer and rose through the ranks to where he became a Hashira, however, I don't think it will be the same Taisho Era Hashira, maybe a past one? Not clearly sure and I have no idea what breathing style he would use.
He died killing the demon (that turned into Uppermoon Six, perhaps) and dragging him down with him.
Tenko/Tomura hates the colour red.
Tomura is the first one, between the two, to remember their past life. He remembers vividly of the past of an older brother failing to protect his little brother. He doesn't recall them right away, his memory is choppy, and foggy at first.
Keep in mind, that Tenko first got his memories as a child and had a hard time comprehending who and why he was remembering this. He had to deal with his father and quirk awakening while also being basically brainwashed by All for One during this time. It wasn't his priority until later.
However, he recalls the colour of emerald green, a bright yet determined smile, and of boy. He meets this boy during the USJ attack.
Tomura was very confused on why the boy in the USJ resembled the boy in his dreams. It became more of a problem after hearing his name and colour. The emerald green jump starting the past that they shared.
Tomura finally understands when the attack of the summer camp happens. When he met the boy, Midoriya Izuku, in the mall, he was able to observe him more clearer and have a closer look. It was probably a coincidence that they look so alike.
Tomura basically asks his usual question on why the public was talking about Stain this, Stain that, and afterwards asks, in a rather vague way, about his life. Not directly of course, Tomura just wanted to know something.
After he gets his answers, it will be only a matter of time till he got Izuku in his grasp again.
Meanwhile, Izuku here is in denial, he got his memories in similar fashion like Tomura but instead on figuring them out, he pushes them away. He denies them.
I'm thinking the main reason why is because Tomura is a villain. Izuku doesn't want to think about the possibility he's actually related to someone who probably killed many or because some of his past life influences him till this day. Izuku back then loved and cared for his big brother despite his flaws, however, his "big brother" now is but a villain. Izuku now sees that and refuses to believe any kinship.
He denies it which frustrates Tomura because he wants Izuku to remember so he can start over. So, they can start over in their new life.
Other plot points I failed to mention -
One thing I definitely have planned is that AFO and Tomura have a rocky relationship. This Tomura hates the colour red, he hates but is fixated on AFO, he didn't know why till later.
During the Summer Camp, Tomura specifically asks for Izuku to be kidnapped, not Bakugou, the "Get Bakugou" is a decoy for their actual goal.
Izuku knows there's something off about himself from the beginning. There are certain skills and a fog in his memory that catch him so off guard he wonders if he's okay sometimes. He doesn't dig too deep about it for a number of reasons.
One of the other reasons was to leave it alone.
Will Izuku remember eventually? Yeah, he'll remember but he will have a hard time coming to terms with his memories and past life. It will not go smoothly.
Finally, what happens at the end? Izuku is trapped in the grasps of Tomura, Tenko once upon a time, and he will not be escaping anytime soon. :)
If I'm being honest, this is an older idea in my series of "Yandere Dekubowl," (which can be found in my AO3) I haven't posted this idea because I couldn't figure out how to type it out. It felt fine but there's something missing about it. I might figure it out later on but who knows. :]
I think I explained this decently? These were in my fanfic book ideas and I decided "Hmm, why not share it?" So, I did. :P
Anyways, that's all I have today, thank you for reading my ramble and I shall go back into the abyss.

AU where Anakin and Owen are actually brothers like we deserved in the films. Nothing about the plot changes it just makes everything like 20% sadder. (Plus space wizard farmer family shenanigans).
I honestly believe half-brother Owen could give Anakin enough of a reality check for this to be a fix-it au LOL
