The fear, frustration and adrenaline were a volatile combination swirling around in Brooke's body after watching Brody's fight, leading the blonde to lash out with her words without even taking a minute to realize how her comments were coming across. Brooke could tell by the look that hung heavy on Brody's features and the slight tremor in his voice that she had hurt him, even without meaning to. That thought alone felt like another punch to the gut, one that was akin to the actual blows Brody had just endured in the ring only several minutes earlier. She never wanted him to see her as the enemy, not when she cared about him even far more than he probably realized.

The truth Brody admitted had Brooke's throat tightening. She knew that was the case, but hearing it from his mouth and the pain in his tone made it so much worse. " Of course that's not what I want to hear. " Brooke's expression softened, eyes nearly pleading with him to stop down this path of self-destruction. She didn't know how to make him see that it led nowhere good. Tears threatened her vision again, along quick with the realization that this was not the time nor the place to show any sort of vulnerability. Not for her and certainly not for Brody either, especially with so many potential opponents and betters around, all with very watchful eyes. " Come with me. " Brooke urged, reaching for his hand and gently curling her fingers in-between his, careful to avoid the knuckles that looked bruised or swollen. Moving at a pace slower than what she would walk on any normal day, obviously for his sake, Brooke guided Brody towards the back locker room, hoping they would make it there without consequence and even more so, that they would have some privacy when they got there. Thankfully, it was deserted. With all the commotion going on inside the actual gym, it was no wonder why.

" Sit. " Brooke gestured with her chin towards one of the benches not littered with dirty clothes or fighting gear as she headed towards a first aid kit hanging on the far wall. Carrying it back to where Brody had seated himself, she busied herself for a moment by familiarizing herself with the contents. Tearing open an alcohol swab, Brooke eased herself between Brody's partly spread legs. Gingerly taking his chin between her fingers, Brooke tilted his face up towards her, a sad sort of smile ghosting her lips, eyes lit with its usual fond tenderness when looking at him. "You know I wasn't trying to insult you out there, right ? " With feather-light movements, she began to dab at the split skin above his eyebrow oozing with fresh blood. Brooke didn't need to warn him it would sting. It wasn't like he didn't already know that. And given what he just faced in the ring and subsequently admitted to her about wanting the pain, Brooke didn't think the slight burn would even phase him. " You're one of the best fighters I've ever seen, Brody. Truly. " She added quietly, intentionally avoiding the male's gaze as she focused on cleaning the most prominent wound on his face. " I just hate watching you hurt yourself for nothing... I don't understand it. "

His body was hot and it wasn't just because he had just finished the fight that was the topic of their argument. Anger bubbled where defensiveness also grew, eyes tracking Brooke's movements as if she were his opponent in the ring and not someone who very obviously fucking cared about his well-being. He appreciated her for her critiques and guidance where no one else had offered but in moments like these where they were all but at each other's throats and especially coming off the high of a fight. It wasn't easy listening to Brooke point out every single one of his terrible mistakes, ones he could have avoided, ones he should have avoided because he was fucking better than that guy by a long shot. Yeah, he'd won anyway but not without letting that prick get in a few good licks and one too many according to Brooke.

Brody shook his head but regretted it the second he did it, dizziness clouding his vision for just a moment before he centered himself again and focused on Brooke. "Why do you have to tear into me like that? You just... pick apart everything I fucking do wrong," just like his dad. It hit a sore spot and he had to swallow down the bitterness he knew Brooke didn't deserve aimed at her. Hearing his father tear him down since childhood should have made him calloused to it from other people and he knew what Brooke was saying and usually did was totally different but he couldn't help taking it the wrong way.

"Yeah, okay, I fucking get it Brooke. I'm an idiot and fucked up on purpose, is that what you want to hear? That I let that prick hit me so hard just so I would get hurt because I want to hurt?" It sounded just as stupid coming from his mouth as it did in his head but the reason was honest. He wanted to hurt because all his life he'd been force fed that it was all he deserved. When Brody's mother died, so did the happiness in his life.

Homelessness/Houselessness:

What makes Life is Strange 2 special is its overarching themes of displacement, exclusion, and being “the other.” The game explores these themes in a variety of ways. The first way it explores them is by tackling Houselessness/Homelessness, and more importantly, youth Houselessness/Homelessness, which is seldom discussed. Throughout the game, there are various representations of characters who are homeless, nomadic, or are living unconventional lifestyles. Sean and Daniel lose their mother after she leaves to be raised by their father alone and end up losing their father after a racial profiling incident with a police officer occurs; the boys are left with no caretakers. Our protagonists are completely displaced and are considered criminals, thugs, outlaws, murderers, etc. The labels harm them even more, however, due to their Mexican American identities.

On the other end of the homeless/houseless spectrum, are characters like Brody (Brody Holloway), who was raised in an upper-class family but decided the unconventional and nomadic lifestyle was best for him. He becomes a traveling journalist and has the freedom to protest, write blogs, do podcasts, etc. He has the freedom to roam around and be creative because of the high class, safe, and structured upbringing he came from.

There are many other drifters Sean and Daniel meet along their journey. We’re introduced to characters like Cassidy who comes from an emotionally abusive family, where her father was racist and addicted to drugs, and her mother was complacent to it all. There’s also characters like Finn (Finnegan McNamara), whose father ratted him and his brothers out to law enforcement after starting an illegal business with them. The game gives us wide arrange of perspectives on and outcomes of homelessness/houselessness, some choose it, and others don’t have a choice but to live the way they do.
