I work for a non-Department of Defense contractor (I’m maliciously stupid, not maliciously evil) and genAI is explicitly banned at work. If you so much as even navigate to a genAI website (the exception being Google and Bing search), you are sent to meet with Brad.

There’s plenty of Brads where I work, but there’s only one Brad (TM) and we all know who it is. You meet with Brad and you become not an employee of the company anymore. It’s fine if you meet with him in passing, but never in his office.

It’s easy to avoid Brad(TM)’s office: Don’t break company and government department policy, don’t download Google Chrome, and don’t use Generative AI.

I stopped using it altogether in my personal life because even for scaffolding common React.JS components it does a bad job. Anything more complex than a simple component and it gets messy, loses context, and because AI CAN’T USE ACTUAL LOGICAL REASON (NO FOR REAL, APPLE’S MATHEMATICS RESEARCH TEAM PROVED IT) it can’t even follow stateful behavior in a system without thinking Jesus Has Returned.

Generative AI is, and always will be, a sham disguised as a way to solve the “employee expense” problem. It won’t be until people die and shit breaks that the C-Suite trust fund morons who thought they were God’s gift to humanity realize that AI actually sucks and they drop it for something else trendy like they did with Bitcoin, NFTs, and web3.

I’m sorry to say this, but we will learn what it is like when knowledge itself has been enshitified and people will get hurt and die as a result.
