Jean-Baptiste Pointe DuSable was born in Saint-Domingue, Haiti (French colony) during the Haitian Revolution. At some point he settled in the part of North America that is now known as the city of Chicago and was described in historical documents as "a handsome negro" He married a Native American woman, Kitiwaha, and they had two children. In 1779, during the American Revolutionary War, he was arrested by the British on suspicion of being an American Patriot sympathizer. In the early 1780s he worked for the British lieutenant-governor of Michilimackinac on an estate at what is now the city of St. Clair, Michigan north of Detroit. In the late 1700's, Jean-Baptiste was the first person to establish an extensive and prosperous trading settlement in what would become the city of Chicago. Historic documents confirm that his property was right at the mouth of the Chicago River. Many people, however, believe that John Kinzie (a white trader) and his family were the first to settle in the area that is now known as Chicago, and it is true that the Kinzie family were Chicago's first "permanent" European settlers. But the truth is that the Kinzie family purchased their property from a French trader who had purchased it from Jean-Baptiste. He died in August 1818, and because he was a Black man, many people tried to white wash the story of Chicago's founding. But in 1912, after the Great Migration, a plaque commemorating Jean-Baptiste appeared in downtown Chicago on the site of his former home. Later in 1913, a white historian named Dr. Milo Milton Quaife also recognized Jean-Baptiste as the founder of Chicago. And as the years went by, more and more Black notables such as Carter G. Woodson and Langston Hughes began to include Jean-Baptiste in their writings as "the brownskin pioneer who founded the Windy City." In 2009, a bronze bust of Jean-Baptiste was designed and placed in Pioneer Square in Chicago along the Magnificent Mile. There is also a popular museum in Chicago named after him called the DuSable Museum of African American History.

Forcible Arrest, Part 4
“Do you see how much easier things are when you co-operate, sir?” said Melissa smoothly. She released Gary from her crushing thigh-grip on his head but then held her prisoner face down into the carpet by placing her nyloned knee firmly on the back of his neck. “I just need to tighten your cuffs now, sir,” the policewoman explained politely and fastened the handcuffs even more restrictively around Gary’s wrists as he gasped in discomfort. “I do hope you’re not too uncomfortable, sir,” the blonde woman cooed, “do tell me if I have restrained you too tightly…”
The breathless Gary, bound behind his back, on his knees and his forehead pressed into the fabric of the rug, was quite unable to make any reply to Melissa’s mock-sympathy whatsoever.
To be continued.

Tory vice-chair Lee Anderson says anti-monarchists should leave UK
Contentious MP reacts to arrest of coronation protesters by telling British republicans to emigrate
Daniel Boffey Chief reporter, Sat 6 May 2023 17.21 BST
The Conservative party’s deputy chair, Lee Anderson, has said that anti-monarchist campaigners should emigrate rather than use their right to free speech to protest against the coronation of Charles III.
The comments followed the arrest of a number of demonstrators at the king’s coronation, including Graham Smith, the chief executive of the country’s largest republican pressure group, Republic, which was formed in 1983.
He tweeted: “Not My King? If you do not wish to live in a country that has a monarchy the solution is not to turn up with your silly boards. The solution is to emigrate.”

I know some folks have been saying “Ed wanted to die in the same place he laid next to Stede-“ WRONG! HE WANTED TO DIE WHERE STEDE LAID NEXT TO HIM!!!
The place Auntie points out as being where his head was crushed by the cannon ball is the exact spot where Stede’s head had been during the arrest and that’s even more insane than the first option. (Anyway, I wanted to correct that assumption. It’s only a matter of like 2 feet, but I still find it an important detail, and figured a visual might help!)

Evidence
“Bye, gents!” laughed June as she looked down at the two young glowering drugs dealers sitting back to back on the pavement, their wrists handcuffed together behind their backs. “We’ll be off now, to track down the other little idiots in your gang. I’m sure the van will be along to pick you up soon!” Norika grinned happily too. “And thanks for the evidence, lads!” she beamed holding up a small package of suspicious-looking white powder. “This will be so helpful when WPC Ackland and I get round to doing your paperwork later on this afternoon!” The sullen young men said nothing as the two policewomen swept past them, tights swishing. June turned round just before joining Norika in their squad car. “Maybe you should think of changing your career, boys!” she smiled at the resentful looking captives before slamming the car door shut.

I think it's funny that the riots have spawned more 'peaceful' anti-immigration protests, like, okay, so you're not throwing bricks and burning cars, but you're still a racist lol

(MPN) The UK and Germany both issued legal disputes to the ICC which slowed down its decision on Netanyahu
In part due to the efforts of the British and German governments, the ICC took over 6 months to issue its arrest warrants for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defence minister Yoav Gallant.
