Three Simple Tips to Becoming a Safer Driver
In 2022, Queensland recorded the highest number of road accidents in the last decade. This suggests we need more skilled drivers who will follow all the requisite measures to drive safely. In this write-up, we have jotted down a few simple yet practical tips that can go a long way in becoming a safer driver.
Tumblr media
1) Always keep your car in good condition
Like any other machine, a car needs proper care and maintenance. If all the parts of the car are in good condition, it can avoid several unfavorable situations on the road.
2) Follow the safety rules
There are numerous road rules for everyday driving in Brisbane. Some of them include seatbelt rules, checking traffic lights, and keeping lanes. Following these rules can ensure smooth mobility while preventing accidents.
3) Avoid distractions while driving
Driving requires concentration and focus. Therefore, while driving, you should keep all possible distractions at bay. For example, loud music can prevent you to hear the horn of another car running behind. Therefore, keep the volume of the music system low. Similarly, it’s important to keep the smartphone in silent mode
With the above-mentioned tips in mind, you can remain safe and avoid accidents. Well, mastering one’s driving skills requires a lot of time, focus, and discipline. But this can become easier with the guidance of a professional driving coach. If you are looking for a driving instructor in Brisbane, then look no further than Affordable Driving School, Brisbane. Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a respiratory disease that causes flu or cold-like symptoms, but can increase risks or lead to more serious complications like bronchitis or pneumonia, particularly among the elderly, young children, and immunocompromised people.
The disease is in the same family as respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and has been around since at least 2001 when it was first identified in the Netherlands. Its outbreaks are concentrated during colder seasons.
Why is HMPV in the news?
Cases have been surging in northern China, particularly among children, according to local authorities. The country’s centre for disease control (CDC) has warned people to take precautions with health and hygiene, but has also pushed back against online claims of overwhelmed hospitals and fears of another Covid-like pandemic.
“Respiratory infections tend to peak during the winter season,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Friday.
“The diseases appear to be less severe and spread with a smaller scale compared to the previous year.”
The apparent increase in cases is likely partly due to new technology more easily detecting and identifying HMPV, experts told the Guardian.
Also, “I think we’re just more cautious of outbreaks now”, said Dr Jacqueline Stephens, a senior lecturer in public health at Flinders University in Australia. “Everyone is hypervigilant, and you hear this term human metapneumovirus and it sounds kind of scary.”
How serious is HMPV and what are the symptoms?
The symptoms of HMPV are similar to a cold or flu, and it is one of several viruses often lumped under a broad definition of the “common cold”, said Stephens. It is not a notifiable disease like Covid-19 or influenza.
“There’s a range of others … that are not notifiable because they are very common and lots of people get them. They make us feel terrible for a few days but if we rest and recuperate for a few days then we get better,” said Stephens.
Who is most at risk from human metapneumovirus?
HMPV can lead to more serious illnesses like bronchitis and pneumonia among elderly people, very young children, and people who are immunocompromised.
“It certainly can and does cause severe disease, that’s why I think it’s important that people know it’s out there,” said said Prof Paul Griffin, director of infectious diseases at Mater Health Services in Brisbane.
“The challenge is at the moment there’s not much we can do except educate people [that] it’s around to reduce transmission. There’s no vaccine or antivirals, although there are some vaccines in development,” said Griffin.
How worried should we be about the virus?
HMPV is not like Covid-19, in that it has been around for several decades and there is a level of immunity in the global population from past infections, the experts said. Covid-19 was a new disease which had never infected humans before, driving the pandemic-level spread.
“I don’t think we’re necessarily concerned about a pandemic with this virus, but the surge in cases and impact it’s having are significant,” said Griffin. “A good lesson can be taken [from the pandemic] to reduce the spread, particularly given we don’t have vaccines or antivirals for HMPV.”
What should we do about it?
“For a number of years [during Covid] we were good at precautions for reducing the numbers, now we are doing less, and we’re seeing a rebound,” said Griffin.
“I’m certainly not suggesting we go back to the harsh restrictions of Covid, but staying home, practising good cough and sneeze etiquette, and hand hygiene are so important during the winter season.”
Both experts also urged people not to go to work while sick, and Stephens suggested wearing a mask if you do have to go into the community, to prevent further infecting others, especially those at higher risk.

today's new driving lesson experience: driving in one of the three days of rain that Brisbane receives*.
I'm starting to freak out less about cars behind me, which is paradoxically making me less afraid of going the speed limit. I'm also getting less paranoid about taking bends at a speed higher than 'crawling', although the wet had me re-paranoid about it. I'm also getting better about judging when it's safe to go, although I missed one right turn opportunity that was a bit glaring :(
I was able to chat more with the instructor in general, which I feel is a good sign. we talked about what I'd need to do to be test-ready, which is unfortunately practicing manoeuvres. we also talked about which test centre to test at and apparently the testing centre nearest me is notorious for being worst in the state. I have no idea if he was just gassing me up, but he was very insistent that he'd be happy with me doing the test tomorrow, my worst sins are just giving way too much and going too slow sometimes. I'm glad I still have a gajillion lessons booked though, this is stuff that will come with time :v
learning to drive as a teen was a frustrating and sometimes terrifying and often tearful experience. all in all, I'm glad to be coming to it again as an adult. it turns out that all those years building resilience have actually been good for something other than crises!
*(unless it's a flood year)

What Christian Hull thinks of Brisbane's gay dating scene
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/what-christian-hull-thinks-of-brisbanes-gay-dating-scene/
What Christian Hull thinks of Brisbane's gay dating scene
Tumblr media
Openly gay comedian and content creator Christian Hull has millions of followers on social media.
We caught up with the Brisbane-based funny man for a chat on his new life here and being an “influencer.”
New life and dating scene in Brisbane
You moved up from Melbourne Brisbane five years ago, what’s some of the biggest differences you’ve seen between the cities and people?
THE WEATHER. I left Melbourne because it was cold, dark and grey. The winters were horrible and the summers were dry and boiling. Honestly, the weather in Victoria isn’t for me.
When I used to do comedy shows up in Brisbane I would love my time here. Howard Smith Wharves is gorgeous. James Street is just stunning.
I was told Brisbane was boring and there was nothing to do but that’s not the experience I had when I visited. You have access to so much and what sold it for me was Noosa was a short drive away.
The vibe and the people are so much more chill. Even Noosa is less snobby and more chill than most parts of Sydney and Melbourne.
Have you got to immerse yourself into the queer and dating scene here?
I’m the biggest introvert on the planet I hate going out and I’m not a big drinker. I also live alone and love my own company.
I’m not someone who dates. I am a massive whore who tends to operate more in the shadows doing naughty things.
Let me tell you having spent time in Sydney and Melbourne the men in Brisbane are far more talented in my opinion.
Sure they ‘serve c*nt’ but they aren’t c*nts. I found the men here really friendly and easy to talk to. Also very attractive.

Highlights of 2024
You had a crazy 2024 with plane spins, world cruises, your Bad Friends tour and meeting Darren Hayes, what was your highlight?
2024 was an insane year for me. Highlights include going back to Jarvis Bay on the NSW South Coast.
We used to holiday here as kids and we, as a family of 6 million, rented a place for the week and got to hang out again.
This time my brothers all had kids and we were all grown up and mildly responsible. We don’t get to do that as a family anymore so it was really nice to all be together yelling at each other for a week.
Other highlights include getting on the famous Ultimate World Cruise and experiencing what being on a cruise liner was like for the first time. IT WAS HORRIBLE! Loud and bright. Imagine a floating nursing home casino.
I don’t mean to shit all over something so popular but this was not a fun experience for me. It is in my highlights only because I stepped out of my comfort zone and embarked on this trip alone. I made amazing friends onboard and had the best time almost dying at different ports in Indonesia. I look back and laugh at how insane this experience was.

The downsides
On the downside, you had some troubles around your Fuck Off shop, ran into a cyclone and fractured a rib, what life lessons did you take away from all of this?
I took away that I am and will always be the biggest disaster of a human. I just end up filming myself have these horrific moments and people laugh at me – I love that my mess of a life brings people joy. Thanks for that!
I’m lucky that I’m able to go on these adventures, try new things and break a rib in the process. The rib incident was only in Noosa and it was because I was trying to get into a boat from the river and fell on a metal pole and injured myself.
As I always say film everything and never stop the camera. The friends I was with were filming the moment and instead of helping me they just zoomed in and watched me screaming in the river in pain and also in shock because I thought I was going to be eaten by the river sharks. It’s amazing footage.
Shutting down my online store was not a hard decision for me I was well and truly over running a business after 4 years and sales weren’t good and I was losing money. It was the best decision I could have made and I’m so much happier for it now.
Being an “influencer”
How do you feel about being described as an influencer?
I feel like a bikini model or travel blogger when that term is used. Influencer is a bit of a gross term but I’ll embrace it.
Everyone knows exactly what that is so it’s a fair description of what I do. I wouldn’t ever call myself that. I like to say “I make shitty videos online” when people ask what I do.
  View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Christian Hull (@christianhull)
What are some misconceptions people have about influencers?
None, they are all true. Influencers can be the nicest and also the most entitled. I remember going to an event once, I never go to events and this was one of the first I had been to in years.
I was wandering around saying hello to other creators and influencers and one of them seemed very disinterested in holding a conversation with me.
We were very different in age and I’m an old grandpa so to be fair I was super boring to them. As soon as they found out I had a big following on TikTok however they changed their tune.
They were all over me asking me to do videos with them and link with brands I had worked with. It was so gross, it’s a lot of social climbing and just using other people to get ahead. I hate that.
Dealing with fans
You have millions of followers across your social platforms, what are some of the nicest things some of your fans have done for you?
When I closed down my business I had $250K worth of stock sitting in the warehouse and I wasn’t sure I’d sell any of it.
When I announced I was closing and the reasons why, people were so awesome. I ended up selling almost all of the stock. This was such a great feeling and I will forever be thankful.
  View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Christian Hull (@christianhull)
Have you had any odd or worrying interactions with fans though?
Thankfully not. I have the best and friendliest fans. Some scream ‘FUCK OFF” out their car windows which I absolutely froth at.
Brings me so much joy. I can never tell if it’s said with love or hate. I’m just going to assume love.
If you could go on tour with any comedian living or dead, who would it be and why?
I don’t think I could go on tour with any of my favourite comedians. The pressure would be too insane. I would kill to MC a show starring Joan Rivers. I got to meet her when she was here in 2009 hosting the Sydney Mardi Gras.
She told me “Find the oldest wealthiest man you can and suck his dick into the will. He will be dead soon and you can thank me later”
Body positivity
You exude body positivity in your content, is that something you’re deliberate about and how important is it to just be yourself?
For 35 years I hated my body and now the scales have tipped the other way. I no longer hate how I look.
I’m about to turn 38 and the last two years have been crazy. I joined OnlyFans and have been very open about my body and sharing a lot of everything.
I’m a very sexual person so finally being comfortable in my skin has made me even more of a whore with no shame at all. I love it!
I’m so happy to rock a pair of buddy smugglers at the beach or at my local sauna. People don’t really care it turns out I was my biggest critic. Now I look in the mirror and think “Who is that? I’d like to buy him a drink.”

A post shared by Christian Hull (@christianhull)
What has been your proudest achievement to date?
Failing English in high school and having the worst spelling and grammar but to have published a best-selling book. Writing my book was such an enjoyable process and the finished product I was so happy with.
What is coming up for you in 2025?
NOTHING! I don’t make plans things just happen.
Plans make me nervous. I’m excited to have no upcoming comedy tours and no big projects.
I have nothing in the pipeline for 2025. Something is bound to happen and I’m excited to find out what that is.
