Album art opinions:
The album cover features an old and worn looking plain CD in a clear bag adorned with red hearts with a torn sticker bearing the albums title. This could be a reference to the band considering this album to be a new beginning of sorts. The blank CD could be anything, contain anything, limitless possibilities, just the same as the bands musical potential. The worn appearance of the whole cover referencing everything the band has done up until now, acknowledging both their history and their infinite possibilities for the future.
Color: 5/10
Recognizability: 4/10
Vibes: 8/10
Total: 6/10
Music opinions/notes:
The band did what the fans feared the most, and made a "pop" album. While this is the furthest the group has strayed away from their deathcore days, they proved that they can sound good no matter what they do. Bringing in lo-fi, trap, beat boxing, and other modern pop and rock sounds. It's also very apparent that Oli is getting more comfortable with his clean singing at this point, since there's very little screaming throughout the album. The artist features also are a nice edition, serving their songs well and making a fantastic experience overall.
Mix: 8/10
Lyrics: 8/10
Instruments: 6/10
Vibes: 8/10
Total: 7/10
Total Score: 7/10

Bring Me The Horizon - POST HUMAN: NeX GEn album review
Well I didn't expect to write a full BMTH album review today but here we go. The band officially blueballed their audience to the point that as soon as they passed the longest streak without releasing an album, they surprise-dropped it completely unexpectedly. Just a heads-up, I'm not familiar to the lore of the album, what the Nex Gen is or whatever but still, here's my review:
[ost] dreamseeker
This is the shortest and most basic noise intro they've done I think for a while, it's just sounds of steps and the fade in to the first track
2. YOUtopia
Way before the album was announced, back during the Survivor Horror album cycle Oli said something along the way that the Post Human series wants to explore each of their favorite and most played genres, one of which was "emo" as he said. Emo in a sense that MCR or Underoath was emo, not the old-school way. YOUtopia has definitely the MCR feeling to it, not as much as LosT has though but that is not the point. This song has a bouncy riff, catchy chorus (similar style to Werewolf, the song the guys did with Lil Uzi Vert on his latest album) and the most 'amo' feel outside of the singles for me. Great song, definitely will be played during concerts.
3. Kool-Aid
The last single before they dropped the album, possibly the most balanced song out of the singles. Very catchy chorus, even the first few seconds feel like the "you're gonna die in the pit" fright that I usually feel at concerts. The breakdown is crazy, it has a very death metal guitar solo, what more do you want?
4. Top 10 staTues tHat CriEd bloOd
When I first read the title I thought this would be the most emo song on the album. I was not wrong. The style of 80% of the song is pure pop punk. There's the old school blink-182-like riff, the chorus sounds like it's from a 00's teen movie. Sometimes in the song there are cheeky blastbeat parts which I adored with Super Mario coin sounds that were hilarious. Oh and there's the Poliphia-bridge that made me smile. This is gonna be a top song on the album for sure for me. It's just so unapologetically fun, it's crazy.
5. liMOusIne (feat. AURORA)
The most out of place song for me, it doesn't even feel like BMTH. It sounds like they hopped on the Deftones-core hype train with the 8 or 9 string low tuned guitar riff that is more Sleep Token than BMTH. Still it's a banger, the bridge by AURORA is really catchy as well. The outro of the song is probably my favorite of theirs outside of One Day the Only Butterflies... on the previous album.
6. DArkSide
DArkSide was the fifth single, and in my opinion the most basic bitch one. It just sounds like they wanted to rip off Linkin Park's Somewhere I Belong again, this of course doesn't mean that the song is bad. In fact it grew on me a lot since it got released. The lyrics are very edgy which is expected from a BMTH song but this song was also a bit too cheesy for me, it definitely goes for the safe radio play option that the band still needs to be as popular as they are.
7. a bulleT w- my namE On (feat. Underoath)
If you read this review carefully you might have noticed that I namedropped Underoath earlier. Well, they are featured on the album. This one literally feels like an old-school Underoath song but with Oli's vocals and the modern hyperpop spin that they do through the whole album. At some point Spencer's vocals felt like they were originally be Jordan's which kinda broke my heart a bit, since the Oli+Jordan duo were my favorite songwriters in the scene. If you're a fan of Underoath you should definitely give this one a spin.
8. [ost] (spi)ritual
Intro=Dark Signs by Sleep Token, Lyrics=Fully Satanic, title=clever wordplay. It's a 2 minute long interlude that has some guitars in it so most fans will not be disappointed in it, the biblical references are there for the edge of it but are barely audible, if you're one of those fans who recently got offended by their latest marketing ploy (the Jesus one), then I'd suggest skip this one. Also it's BMTH, they have always been against religion in general so... don't be surprised.
9. n/A
This song broke me. The first two lines are: "Hi, My name is Oli and I'm an addict. I'm here cause I'm not quite all there". The guitar work is very simple in the beginning, reminiscent of Where is My Mind by the Pixies, but you can sense that something big is coming. This is the most personal song on the album, I haven't heard Oli open up this much about suicidal thoughts and addiction since Sempiternal. It also has a grotesque feel to it as he discribes how he would kill himself in various ways (jumping down a building, making love to a chainsaw, etc). This one is also pretty emo, but not just because of the lyrics, by the sound as well. Definitely will be landing on my playlist.
10. LoSt
Undoubtedly my favorite song on the album, i've been constantly listening to it since it came out last year. If there is a thing called "I'm not Okay"-core this is it. The breakdown is the funnest one through the whole discography of the band, the chorus is a clone of the aformentioned MCR song and the pacing feels like a pop punk banger with an easycore breakdown. Still 10/10 for me.
11. sTraNgeRs
It's kinda crazy to think about how much time passed between each single and the album itself. This song will always remind me to coming home from my ex-girlfriend whom I've completely alienated from at that point and humming to myself: We're just a room full of strangers. I know that the original meaning of the song is quite the oposite, it has a sense of unity and togetherness but still, my personal story overwrote this one for me and I cannot help it. This was the second single and in my opinion didn't age as well as the others but still a very good song.
12. Rip (duskCOre RemIx)
Some segments of the lyrics of this song can be found throughout the teasers BMTH put out in the past few years. This one is a purely hyperpop/heavy pop banger that is very common towards the end of the record. The pacing is again very pop punk and emo, but it has those glitchy effects and even a dance beat at some point. It's a fun one but the poppiest out of the whole record I think. Oh and there's a woah-woah post-chorus which is again, very pop punk. Also despite the sound is very happy and hyper the lyrics are very self-loathing and depict the disappointment Oli had with himself after relapsing during COVID. Just a not so fun fact.
13. AmEN! (feat, Lil Uzi Vert and Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw)
The heaviest song on the album that was premiered live in my home country last year. I'm really disappointed I missed that and am still salty about it. Anyway this song is the same as Darkside for me, it's not a bad one, in fact, the old school BMTH fans will like this one the most, but for me it's not as exciting. I'd rather listen to the random bullshit they come up with than Oli trying to replicate Suicide Season style vocals which tore his throat up back then. But back to the song, it also grew a lot on me, the choir breakdown will always be fun and the lyrics have very much the Hospital of Souls kind of feel and edginess.
14. [ost] puss-e
Speaking of randomness, this one is about the female genitalia. it's an interlude (as every song beginning with [ost]). I think it's the biggest brain fart they had since the Music to Listen to... EP dropped. The callout before the breakbeat is literally: What would you do for pussy?. It's a random noisy shitshow that people will be mad about just like they were during the amo era but this is still unfathomably BMTH at their finest.
15. DiE4u
It's crazy to think about but this song came out almost 3 years ago, back when Survivor Horror had its album cycle and people were still mostly locked up in quarantine. The lyrics are about addiction again, not surprisingly and were inspired by Oli's relapse that I mentioned earlier. During COVID he made some very bad choices that lead him to get on ketamine for the first time since I think 2013 or so. This song is basically him singing to the drugs, it's a little fucked isn't it? It definitely didn't hold up as well as LoSt or AmEN because back in 2021 Oli was still trying to spread the idea he had about making a new genre called heavy pop. Well, some of his ideas are on the album so I guess he was successful.
16. Dig it
The closing track of this massive album and again we're back to the topic of self-hatred. Oli is again very disappointed in himself to a melody that is similar to Something in the Way by Nirvana. Maybe that was an inspiration, since that song also screams self-loathing. Then there's the modern pop drumbeat, but still the instrumentals are very lowkey, it's clear that the intention is to focus on the lyrics. The closure of the track gets heavy as usual and we hear Count Your Blessings era vocals again. There is even a little snippet at the very end after a little silence, that the AI playing the album failed which means the album is over.
Overall it's a great album, I think Oli and the band ended up with a terrific record, however I still miss Jordan's work on some of the songs. Maybe some ideas were scrapped, maybe even reworked at certain points but I'll always miss his handprint from now on I think. All of the fanbase will be happy with this record I guarantee it.

Bring Me The Horizon - Kool-Aid Review
Let's get something out of the way.
Yes, I'm aware Jordan is gone, and yes, I know he worked on this songs early stages and yet does not appear on the credits on Kool Aid.
But am I going to talk about “Post Jordan BMTH” throughout this review? FUCK NO.
I have questions, thoughts, and concerns, that I will NOT let take over the discourse of this song, I'll make a retrospective and rant article on it later (but hopefully not too much later). It's not that deep people (and if it turns out it is then I'll actually be worried)
So! Kool-Aid! Which as a brand can't be done with mixed caps like eVeRYthInG ElsE. But we got badass zombie Kool Aid man, so you win some and lose some.
Now we need to get something else out of the way immediately. It's heavy. Like potentially the heaviest shit they've done since Sempiternal or There is a Hell. We need to talk about it because that is also tainting the discourse around the song because the “Amo Bad, Sempiternal & Count Your Blessings Good” camp gets riled up when Bring Me gets heavy nowadays. We gotta combat that shit people. It's heavy, and I wanna say immediately that's not, in any way, a direct reason for why Im about to say that…
This is, HANDS DOWN, tying with Ludens for the best fuckin Post Human single, and is one of their absolute best showings upon first listen ever. And it has almost jack shit to do with it's heavy elements genre or BMTH era comparisons.
My fucking GOD, it's the first new, released in 2024 song I've heard and it probably could remain as my favorite song of 2024 through to the end of the year and beyond that. I do have one concern I'll mention here and expand on in that aforementioned later article I'm writing, but we'll get to that later.
Firstly, I'd like to say that my personal description of the theme of Nex Gen sonically, much like Survival Horror was “Sempiternal but Evolved” is very much “That's the Spirit (especially including Don't Look Down) but Evolved”. Kool-Aid takes that concept and not only runs with it, but also decides to throw the entire BMTH playbook in like they're adding pinches of other Kool-Aid (BMTH album era) flavors in to augment the red Kool Aids classic (That's the Spirit) flavor. Anybody who compares this mainly to anything other than That's The Spirit or maybe Survival Horror is wrong or lying, I'm not taking that back, I don't make the rules I follow them.
The star of this song is honestly that it was able to take the loose thread of the Church of Genxsis cult plot and the whole “Dark Side of Kool -Aid” that's kind of became a thing and wove it into every part of the lyrical content of this song without any of it coming off as cringy or juvenile. The song sound like both corruption and salvation, desperation & hopelessness, manipulation & rebellion. The entire chorus, the verses, every single line of this song is PERFECT. And yes I'm including ‘you should of known” in there. I think that grammatical error interpreted as a Sheffield-ism like examples of the same thing in earlier albums lyrics makes it better than the correct “should’ve” (or should have), it's a creative choice not an error, and you'll probably grow to like it too in time.
That’s what makes the song so powerful in general, but the focal point of the song is obviously the hook and overall chorus. My favorite choruses of Post Human, and BMTH overall, were dethroned the second I finished hearing that chorus in full. That chorus goes so fucking hard, Oli giving what may be simply his best clean singing to date, with a dark and desperate melody that hits the exact emotional beats it's going for. Then let's talk about the verses, which are more surprising in their switchups and flicker between styles even more effortlessly than Kingslayer did, I'd say it does so on par with 1x1 in fact.
Now of course it's heavy second verse, breakdown, and post-chorus near the end are breathtaking, but it's because of their unique and aesthetically interesting and well textured guitar work and the tones the guitar lines are played with, the surprise of hearing them, and just the overall groove and improvement in their quality that didn't exist in their idolized older material. It's that they work equally well with all four vocal tones Oli employs on this track, and work cohesively with the melodic elements to create the intended effect of the song.
Some have questioned whether Oli’s vocals were mixed down on the track, I disagree, and would put forth the theory that in fact the guitars were mixed up, to the levels they would have been at circa Sempiternal/That's The Spirit, so both guitars and vocals exist equally as much instead of vocals at the forefront
As for production: I really like Zakk Cervini’s production in general, he’s credited on multiple of my favorite rock and core genres across the past decade. Given his work with BMTH to date I figure hes probably a best case scenario for production that isn't Jordan, alongside Dan Lancaster. Aside from that personnel wise theres a few things to look at. Firstly theres a writing credit to someone listed as DAIDAI. I looked up their name on genius and came out with a handful of songs they have been credited on (could be relatively new to the industry, however its also worth noting they are credited on AmEN! and DArkSide), I will listen to is credited songs real quick then come back….
Woosh, Im back
So turns out DAIDAI is a member of Japanese metalcore band Paledusk. And as for his credits its the aforementioned last three Nex Gen singles, four Paledusk songs, a Lil Uzi Vert song, and a Shinigami song. I listened through them in the hopes of figuring out exactly what DAIDAI contributed, and… honestly I’m not sure. He at absolute least occasionally has produced the bands songs, and is their guitarist. Listening to the aforementioned tracks I figure he could be responsible for just about any of it. However my money would be that his influence is somewhere in the breakdown or verses, but then again Paledusk has some pretty kickass chorus melodies and hooks, so I genuinely can't say I know where his influence is in the recent BMTH singles.
Lucy Landry is Zakk Cervini’s partner, I found 3 credits on genius, turns out she's done backing vocals on the last 3 Waterparks albums, a couple tracks on Good Charlotte's album Generation Rx, and a Fever 333 song.
Phil Gornell was assistant engineer, his credited discography includes All Time Low, Noah Finnce, Hot Milk, While She Sleeps, a punk goes pop cover by Boston Manor, the Youngblood era live album 5 Seconds of Summer Released, and from BMTH, hes credited as drum engineer on Sempiternal, and assistant engineer on both versions of Ludens.
Julian Gargiulo was credited alongside Cervini as a mixing engineer, hes credited as Assistant Mixing Engineer and Primary Mixing Engineer on Architects most recent single Seeing Red, and DArkSide respectively. His two other two credits of note are as Producer and engineer across 5 different EP’s by a band called Chronologist, and contribution of some Guitar work and Engineering on the As It Is record The Great Depression.
As for what all of this means? Ive heard most of the material that Ive listed alongside those names, and it looks like they've been building this production team up throughout the Post Human era, and I would say its a considerably strong one after hearing Kool-Aid.
Lets give my last thoughts to the outro and another thing people have said was an "omission", I agree with everyone elses assessments on it, its part behind the scenes voice note, part outro & part transition into ToP 10 STatUeS THAT CRiED BLooD. I like that its there and hope it does remain there on the album. As for the apparent "omission" of "Oh Yeah?" I think that the songs more serious, lass meme take on using the Kool-Aid references is actually a GREAT thing, and secondly I think I'd only have wanted it were this a faster paced, Let's Get This Party Started style song.
I give the song a 100, It easily earns it. Okay, I think that's everything …..
👀.
Oh yeah, the thing I'm concerned about that's going to be the third BMTH article I have planned for this month.
Its heaviness is my concern, let me explain.
My concern is this, on one hand you could assume this just means they are trying to make the individual parts of Post Human more cohesive than initially planned. But has anybody else heard the alleged information leaks coming from someone claiming to have an inside source says its 15 tracks long, and all the material that we haven't heard yet was created in the liminal space between Jordan leaving the tour and the official band departure announcement? Combine that with the fact that the heavier songs were originally supposed to be meant for later eps, and that leads to this conundrum: Its an album, it looks like RCA is planning on registering it as such rather than as an EP after all (likely for charting and awards purposes that I personally believe are why Survival Horror was snubbed by the Grammy’s/Recording Academy), its an album that due to its physical release having to be 6 months delayed after its official release in the early summer, won't be followed up by another release until 2025 in all likelihood. Ludens was released in 2019, Post Human could technically be said to celebrate its 5th anniversary as an era by the approximate time of the Nex Gen physical copy release date. Its an album thats now 4 years post its predecessor, in a series of four thats complete release finish line seems to jump farther down the road every time progress is made. I’m worried they are planning to kill off Post Human after Nex Gen drops to skip over it and start just releasing singles like they had planned to at the whole “4 EP’s, 1 year” stage of this era. And I have a whole fucking article in the works about why I think that hopefully wont happen.
But yeah, the song slaps go stream it to make it chart higher cos the band deserves it okay bye

Single Review: “wonderful life” by Bring Me the Horizon
Tumblr media
The second single from amo (out on January 25th, 2019 via Sony Music Entertainment UK Limited) -- “wonderful life” – continues to showcase the creativity Bring Me the Horizon possesses and just how daring they’re willing be as they put more distance between themselves and the original metalcore sound that was crucial to their early successes. That makes them one of the more intriguing bands currently in existence, due to the fact that breaking a mold you’ve cast yourself in runs the risk of alienating longtime fans; and for those fans who thought their previous record was a vast departure, it seems that this forthcoming one will be even more eclectic. “wonderful life” alone incorporates a plethora of genres, even subtly hinting back to BMTH’s initial sound while also splicing it with some hard and heavy rock and alternative styles as well as a catchy pop tone. In regard to that pop influence, it relies heavily on a synth as well as some programming aspects, the electronic components generating an undeniable vibe that draws the listener in. All of that culminates with the breakdown. Done in the vein of what one might typically hear in EDM or even hip-hop, it still fits with the exuberant display that defines the track. Primal yet polished, it’s teeming with raw power. The use of some horns in the final moment isn’t to be overlooked, either. As out of place as it may sound, upon hearing it, it just sounds so behooving of the track, allowing it to pull off a triumphant, overwhelmingly positive tone as it finishes strong.
The riff that kicks “wonderful life” off is as classic as could be. A hybrid of rock and nu metal, it’s euphoric in a way but also haunting, alluding to the chaos that’s about to unfold; and when the track cuts loose, it makes sure that it’s an all-out assault, being unrelenting for the next four minutes or so. Self-described as being “mostly word vomit” by vocalist and songwriter Oliver Sykes during one interview, the singer also remarked that the lyrics were done freestyle in the studio. At times you can tell that, specifically during the intro where Sykes sounds as if he’s embarking on a train of thought and just seeing where it goes. Other than that, though, as unorganized as some of the lyrics may seem at times, it could be argued that never has such randomness sounded as significant and meaningful as it does during “wonderful life”. From that intro where he is pondering the gradual decay of the brain that begins when people are still just in their twenties Sykes moves on to an array of topics that constantly feel cohesive. In what some could view as being a bit disturbing, he likens his current disposition to that of an infamous killer, at least in regard to the fact that he wears a smile, masking the deeper feelings he’s experiencing from those around him. That’s crucial to the narrative, though, this latest single addressing the multiple feelings often raging within a person. In this instance, that seems to focus on the desire to be home and simultaneously still wanting to go out and enjoy a night on the town, enjoying the former to an extent but also needing to be a part of the action along with not wanting to be fully “domesticated” just yet. There’s a sort of sad irony about the chorus that works in contrast to the song’s title, Sykes proclaiming “Oh, what a wonderful life!” immediately after singing “…Nobody cares if I’m dead or alive…”. However, it’s difficult to discern if it’s meant to be slightly tongue-in-cheek or rather legitimate feelings that have come to be the new normal; and helping to give the track a little something extra is Cradle of Filth's Dani Filth, the vocalist being brought in to spice up the bridge. His throaty growls are absolutely chilling, and brief as his guest spot may be, it is unforgettable. It doesn’t seem that fans will be able to find any middle ground with this new material, either bound to love it or hate it. Nevertheless, it deserves recognition for what it is. And what it is, is Sykes, Matt Kean, Lee Malia, Matt Nicholls and Jordan Fish continuing to redefine themselves as musicians and a band. Thus far with the released singles there’s barely a thread even connecting this to 2015’s That's the Spirit, just proving that when they got to work writing for amo they didn’t have any self-imposed restrictions. Everything was allowed to flow as it may, and the result has been something that wields a universal appeal while also being a bit edgy. Parts of “wonderful life” do sound a bit more mainstream with more commercial undertones, though at other moments, if you listen carefully, there’s no arguing that Bring Me the Horizon is still very much in touch with roots. Whether he’s screaming or singing (in a surprisingly pristine manner in this instance) there’s a constant ferocity about the ever impassioned Sykes; the music casually bridging together genres that typically wouldn’t even be associated together, which just speaks to the artistry of the musicians that they could pull off a massive soundscape like this in such a cohesive way. Personally, “MANTRA” didn’t connect with me that much, but “wonderful life” is a brilliant piece that challenges preconceived notions of what can and can’t work in music. And hopefully BMTH will continue to push that envelope throughout the remaining tracks of amo. TOP 15 BRING ME THE HORIZON SONGS as of 16 January 2019
15. The Comedown - Suicide Season (2008)
"I dug my grave so I'll die in it"
Though I like Bring Me The Horizon’s newer style better, I do appreciate their old heavier style. There were a few on this album I was debating between but I went with The Comedown because of the lyrics and also the progression of the song, it goes through a few different feelings and I really like that effect in a song.
14. It Never Ends - There Is A Hell, Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is a Heaven, Let’s Keep It A Secret. (2010)
"I've said it once, I've said it twice, I've said it a thousand fucking times, that I'm okay, that I'm fine, that it's all just in my mind"
There is a lot of layers to this song in terms of musical content, which I really appreciate. The chorus of this song is super memorable as well, relatable for some, catchy.
13. Antivist - Sempiternal (2013)
"Oh, give me a break you deluded, ill-informed, self-serving pricks, if you really believe in the words that you preach, get off your screens and up to the streets, there will be no peaceful revolution, no war without blood"
Probably one of my favorite albums of all time as of now, Sempiternal has a lot of messages and I think this song has really interesting lyrical content with the heaviness needed for the message.
12. Wonderful Life - Amo (2019)
"I feel numb now, is that a feeling? Like a plastic boxed orange with no peel on, I wanna waste, I wanna waste, I wanna waste away"
Though Amo is not released until January 25, I really loved every single Bring Me The Horizon has shown audiences from it. I have personally had this song on repeat since I first heard it. I like that it is a bit heavier than singles like Medicine, I think from what I’ve heard it will fit the album nicely. Also love the chorus of this song.
11. Can You Feel My Heart - Sempiternal (2013)
"I'm scared to get close, and I hate being alone"
The first track off of Sempiternal, this song is one I always can listen to. It has a great flow to me, plus I can relate to the lyrical content in this song.
10. Avalanche - That’s The Spirit (2015)
"Cut me open and tell me what's inside, diagnose me, 'cause I can't keep wonderin why, and no it's not a phase, cause it happens all the time, start over check again, now, tell me what you find"
Off of probably my favorite Bring Me The Horizon album, the track Avalanche is interesting, sounds upbeat but has heavy lyrical content, which is a theme for this album. Again, I really relate to a lot of the lyrics in the track, and the explosive chorus really gets to me.
9. Run - That’s The Spirit (2015)
"But through the silence, you will feel it burn"
The track right after Avalanche, Run is my number 9 pick. There is something about this song that hits me really deep, plus the drums are sick.
8. Medicine - Amo (2019)
"Cause I cut my teeth and bit my tongue till my mouth was dripping blood, but I never dished the dirt, just held my breath, while you dragged me through the mud"
Bring Me The Horizon’s most recent single Medicine really grew on me. The first time I heard the full song, I was very happily surprised. Again, another song that has been on repeat since I’ve heard it the first time, I think this is just a really well done, smart track.
7. Sleepwalking - Sempiternal (2013)
"My secrets are burning a hole through my heart and my bones catch a fever"
If I had to show someone one BMTH song to introduce them to the band, I think I would go with Sleepwalking. I think this track does a great job at kind of describing the band, it has really smart lyrical content, heavy but has a catchy chorus, we have the BMTH unique electronic pieces, I think this song is really great and one I always come back to.
6. Throne - That’s The Spirit (2015)
"I was an ocean, lost in the open, nothing could take the pain away"
My top six songs were honestly hard to rank. Throne is an awesome track, honestly I think anyone could listen to it and enjoy it in some way.
5. The House Of Wolves - Sempiternal (2013)
"And when you die the only kingdom you'll see is two foot wide and six foot deep"
The House Of Wolves was one of the first BMTH songs that I feel in love with. I still listen to this track with the same emotion as the first time I heard it. Though the lyrical content is pretty heavy, there is just something about this song that sucks me in, and come on the bridge is so good.
4. Shadow Moses - Sempiternal (2013)
"Secrets don't sleep till they're took to the grave"
I honestly don’t think I will ever get sick of this song. I probably have listened to it a thousand times, but every time when the full band kicks in after the intro I feel it. To me, I think this is one of BMTH’s best songs, it has so many layers, heavy in some spots, soft in others but it flows so so good together. I do not exaggerate when I say every time I hear this song I scream “THIS IS SEMPITERNAL”.
3. Mantra - Amo (2019)
"Close your eyes and listen carefully, imagine you're stood on a beach, water gently lapping at your feet, but now you're sinking, what were you thinking, that' all the time we have this week"
Again, a song from an album that has not been released yet. I had to, this song is so infectious. So so smart, I swear I did not start paying attention to song lyrics until I heard this song. It definitely would be in my top 100 songs ever.
2. Doomed - That’s The Spirit (2015)
"So leave the light on, I'm coming home, it's getting darker, but I'll carry on, the sun don't shine, but it never did and when it rains it fucking pours but I think I like it, and you know that I'm in love with the mess"
Here we go with the really personal commentary on these tracks. I had a really hard time with my top two picks because they both definitely mean a lot to me. Lots of relatable lyrical content with this pick. There is so much emotion in this song, and I honestly hear it every time I listen to this song. I scream every word of this song when I listen by myself. Also holy shit! What a fucking awesome way to start an album.
1. Happy Song - That’s The Spirit (2015)
"Don't wake us up we'd rather just keep dreamin' cause the nightmares in our heads are bad enough"
Here we go, number 1 is Happy Song. As someone who struggles with anxiety daily, I have looked to this song many times. Everything about this song, that guitar sound you could spot anywhere, the irony of the lyrics, the emotion filled choruses and don’t even get me start on the bridge into the end.

Bring Me The Horizon - mother tongue : i don’t care about the sound change anymore bc this is adorable
okay i don’t care about the sound change anymore. this song is amazing and i can’t wait for it to drop this friday.
as a girl that does speak another language other than english this is cute.
if you didn’t understand the last comment:
the song is about (or rather dedicated to) oli’s wife he married recently, alissa salls, who is originally brazilian.
that’s why the album title and this song has portuguese lyrics.
and this is just cute. like it’s cute. i don’t care. i don’t care they ain’t rock/metal anymore. i’m so fucken ready for this album. this song is good.
and even if you’re a bmth listener that prefers the older stuff than this, you can at least appreciate how well produced this is. they did a good job.
also this is pop music done right. you can admit that.
I JUST WANT THIS ALBUM TO ARRIVE UGH.
i’ll be dropping a full album review soon... stay tuned, love you all that actually stay here for this content.
and thanks for 600 followers too

BMTH - AMO review (took me hell lot of time so go read it!)
1. I apologize if you feel something
Just some kind of intro, nothing much interesting about it. Its just bunch of random sounds with few lyrics. Not big deal.
2. MANTRA
First single we got and first spark of hope for this album. Honestly when this came out my expectations went really high. I hoped that amo will dive even deeper into this cult stuff and it will unite all fans again. That would be really awesome in my opinion. But unfortunately (at least for me) its only this song and it don't have much in common with rest of the album. Musically okay song, can easily fit into their discography. I really enjoy it, one of better songs from album lyrics also alright. Just Quite wasted potential
3.nihilist blues (feat. Grimes)
Oh boi, here it all gone wrong. Really strange electro kinda sounds I would not be surprised if monstercat would release this. Huge EDM vibes. I cannot distinguish who is singing what. Lyrics extremely deep, maybe unnecessarily too deep. Most likely i won't play this lot often. Maybe if i will ever be on drugs cause this song sounds super psycho.
4. in the dark
First of all, i must say, hearing positive sounds by bmth is quite welcome change by me. But what it kinda counters it,  its quite forgetable song, both lyricaly and musicaly, its not catchy and very generic, good idea but badly executed in my opinion
5. wonderful life (feat. Dani Filth)
Second single, amazing song, not just because its heavy, but it have idea, it have emotion, its surprising and fresh, i really like it, one of my favourite from album. Only bad thing i can say about it, its kinda missing that breakdown with some solo guitar, maybe it would be too much XD but the entire album is missing this feature and this song suits it the best
6. ouch
about this song, its one huge lie that Jordan said about it. But its sequel to follow you, i understand this song, even if its honestly not the best, kinda unfinished, missing instrumentals and over all not much even a song more like random sound with some talk
7. medicine
Third single and I kinda have love/hate relationship with this one, i get the emotion, i get the idea, i only dont understand why it had to be pop song? I actually like this song, but only as this awesome cover , go check it out!!!
8. sugar honey ice & tea
really praised song by metal fans, but for me, its not as good as they may talk about it. Music is fine, but lyrics are very forgetable once again. Definitely not bad song, it only miss that powerful chorus that you would remember and sing along. But yeah, this song is quite dope and i definitely dont mind it
9. why you gotta kick me when I am down?
this is just pathetic hate speech to fans who wanted some different music. bmth are fighting their fans for absolutely zero reason. if they would explain the album better and perhaps add one song similar to Throne instead of this, it would be so much better, by doing this, answering to toxic fans with even more toxicity and threatening them, this may only end up wrong for band. They have to realise that at the end of the day, they are paid only by their fans
10. fresh bruises
for me, this is one song too much. I understand that they are experimenting and stuff. but at this point on the album, putting such a generic boring electro song, I would always skip it. expect of that, i just would repeat what i said to nihilist blues
11. mother tongue
althrough not heavy, this song is really decent. Seems lot as rip-off of “Toto // Africa” to me, but hey, thats a good song as well, i like listening to it, but sadly, its nothing new
12. heavy metal (feat. Rahzel)
One of my favourite ones as well. It makes “ why you gotta kick me when I am down? “ looks stupid, silly and even more unnecessary. If he wanted adress anything to fans, this could’ve been just fair enough, we didnt need another song. But this one, both lyricaly and musicaly is really good, i like it. Its also another Jordan lie, what he said about it, but whatever i guess. that beatboxing part was maybe bit unnecessary as well, but i didnt mind it much and i really can enjoy it
13. I dont know what to say
because no one close to me passed away so far (i am really thankful for that), i cant emapthize with this song, but even if i could, this is basically “memorial“ from third album, but worse version since it have lyrics. basically rip-off of MCR // cancer
OVERALL. album is for my taste bit too experimental. I most likely will be listening to maybe 5 songs (+ that medicine cover) at best. I am not sure if this is right way to go. If they wanted to sing about love but also mind their fans they could’ve easly go for style like Arctic Monkeys have, it would’ve been much better. definitely not worth waiting 4 years album, but i guess better than nothing. Hopefully next time they will do better, i wish them good luck

Bring Me The Horizon “Amo” Label: Sony/RCA Genre: Pop Rock, Alternative Metal, Electronic, Experimental Release Date: January 25, 2019
*Disclaimer* This is my 2nd time going through the album, so my words might represent what I feel for something that could be partial to the latter of the album.
Vocals: 9.5 Instrumentation: 7 Creativity: 9 Originality: 8 Production: 10 Flow: 6 Composition: 7.5 Lasting Value: 8
Tracklist: 1. I Apologize If You Feel Something Honestly, this kind of does set the tone for the album. It’s going to have major electronics, practically in every track, and unexpected music genre’s at every turn. The album is really experimental, and it’s telling you right off the bat. 6/10
2. Mantra As an ACTUAL kickoff to the album, this is done really well. It’s a blend of TTS with greater pop rock influences, which sometimes can go south. This though, is a high energy, fun track that should please anybody not looking for something Suicide Season or before. 9/10
3. Nihilist Blues (feat. Grimes) And here we start with the experimentation. If this wasn’t on a BMTH album, you would never ever guess it was them, as most of the song is heavy synth with very Oli’s vocals being produced beyond outside his normal sound range. If this was released outside the album, or say under a secret band moniker, I would probably appreciate this more, but this track addition on, especially being so early on in the album, really breaks up the flow from what we really should be expecting from this album. 8/10
4. In the Dark This track is pretty forgettable. It takes the weirdness and experimentation showing off this album, and mixes it with a generic formula. There’s nothing that stands out about this track, especially compared to the other highs throughout the rest of the album. If you want something chill and beach-y, then this is for you, but not for me. 4/10
5. Wonderful Life (feat. Dani Filth) I hate calling this the “heaviest” track on the album, because it’s really not that heavy, especially compared to any BMTH album before TTS. It has some alternative metal sense to it, but they probably could’ve done more to this to warrant a “heavy” track. Besides that, the song’s not bad, it has it’s high points like the last bridge of the track, but it feels off at times, like it’s provoking the listener to expect more than what’s been presented. 7/10
6. Ouch Pure garbage filler. It works with the electronics of the album, but come on, we don’t need interludes in the album unless they’re necessary. 2/10
7. Medicine The first serious poppy-rock track, and it works really well. I want to sing along with this track every time it comes on. An album with tracks exactly like this would have been probably the best way to go if they seriously wanted to break into mainstream. 10/10
8. Sugar Honey Ice & Tea SHIT, this sounds like a Fall Out Boy track. If only FOB was more like their copycat song, then they’d be better. You gotta praise them when a band does another band’s sound better. 9/10
9. Why You Gotta Kick Me When I’m Down? When that very first 60 seconds kicks in you honestly don’t really know where this track will go, but when that chorus hits you realize you’re 100% in and ready for the rest. This has heavy R&B and Rap influences, and it totally works too. It’s experimentation is on levels with Nihilist Blues, but this feels like it belongs after hearing the last 8 tracks. Only part that is questionable is the little snippet at the very end of the track. 9/10
10. Fresh Bruises A ridiculously long interlude. Why does this exist? It’s all repetitive electronics and computerized vocals, showcasing no prowess towards the sound of the album. Be gone with you! 0/10
11. Mother Tongue Soft, poppy song. But it’s not tiring as you hear many vocal ranges from Oli here. It fits pretty well with a mixture of Tracks 7 and 8, but on a slightly lighter note. It’s also the song with Amo in the lyrics. 9/10
12. Heavy Metal (feat. Rahzel) This song was pretty alright, until the end. I want to tell you what the ending is, I really do, I also want you to listen to this track yourself to find out that the ending is the perfect amount to say that it’s not enough. I came out of that song saying “That’s it?!”. If there was any hype to this track at all, the hype definitely wasn’t real. 6/10
13. I Don’t Know What to Say I liked the Strings section. That’s about it with this one. 3/10
Songs Kept: 7 out of 13
Final Score: 70/100%  |  Grade: C
Verdict: I don’t say this often, but give us more of the poppy stuff.

Bring Me The Horizon - amo album review
I’ve been a fan of BMTH since the late-There is a hell era and obviously they surprised me once again. I’m gonna go song by song on the album because each of the songs have something in them that differs from the one before.
i apologize if you feel something, the first track is already a lot more different than the previous BMTH albums. It begins as a typical intro with long silences between the melody. Then Oli starts to sing on a really high pitched poppy autotuned voice. You can hear no instruments whatsoever except the synth that plays the melody. Then it changes to this ambient style that somehow suits the band’s music but feels awkward without the guitar and drums. When I first heard this song I already realized it was nothing special, just a little intro that might hype up the crowd before they start performing.
MANTRA, the first single of the album is a little less heavy than the That’s The Spirit era songs. A lot less heavy if you think about how Oli’s vocal style changed since 2015. It finally has drums and heavily distorted low tuned guitar and even screams in the background but it still feels like an alternative rock song just because of the verses and the high pitched bridge. The guitar riff is banging, the chorus is catchy, not a bad song afterall but it will still disappoint the old fans of the band.
nihilist blues is definitely the weirdest song on the record. It’s basically a trance/europop song that divides the listeners to two types: the first one would say: what the fuck is this shit, i’m not listening to this album anymore, and the second one would be: wow they’re brave as hell for doing this, I’m looking forward for the rest. I’m not a big expert on europop or trance or whatever electronic music genres there are but it really reminded me of an Armin van Buuren beat and apparently they copied a little from a relatively new Evanescence song as well. Grimes is featured in the song and her vocal style fits it really well. It has a creepy feeling that makes the song feel like you’re in a club full of drug addicts and the only thing left for you to survive is becoming an addict (for the music). Personally I think probably something like this was on the band’s mind when they wrote this. You definitely won’t like this one unless you like electronic music. You can hear the drums and guitars in it (they’re playing the electronic distorted thing with a tremolo pedal probably) but it’s barely recognizable.
in the dark, the next song has a really strange feeling. It sounds like a pop song because of the samples it uses but it still has the guitar (both clean and distorted) that reminded me of Doomed from the previous album. Both the guitars and the vocals are catchy as hell and after the first few listens you can hear what was the point of writing this song, here that “gateway band” thing begins that Oli mentions in a lot of his recent interviews. They want to be a gateway band that shows people the grand spectrum of music from electronic to heavy metal (or metalcore if you’re a genre-nazi) and do the same thing that Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit did for popularizing the crossover of rap and hip-hop and screamy, heavy rock music. It has the same experiencing feeling that got me into Linkin Park and even tho the song and its lyrics are kinda forgettable, the intention is clear and I personally like it a lot.
wonderful life, the second single of the album is without a doubt one of the heaviest ones on it. The intro seems like a classic BMTH style guitar intro with a little less distortion and a really weird, progressive time signature (for my ear at least). The main riff is simple, heavy and you can definitely bang you head to it. The chorus is catchy, the lyrics are relatable for the emo kids, it has a squealing scream from Dani Filth, which makes it seem like the metalcore days are creeping on the band. The outro chorus reminded me of their song ‘Oh No” from the previous record just because it’s so monumental but maybe that’s just me.
ouch is a cheap interlude in my opinion. It’s not even 2 minutes, the samples get boring in the end. It has a drum and bass kind of feeling to it. It reminded me of Cure For The Itch by Linkin Park, just because of the placement and the “drum” beats on it. The nanana thing that goes on in the chorus also gets boring really quickly. The lyrics are about Oli’s ex-wife Hannah Snowdon and it has a nice throwback to their 2015 song, Follow You with the “under your spell” lines, and it’s clear that he left that time behind with this song.
medicine, the song with the weird-ass video is the next one on the album. If you haven’t heard a single BMTH song in your life and you’re into the more pop-ish side of alternative you’ll probably say: holy shit this is a banger. The first couple of lines in the chorus are really far-fetched in my opinion, it’s the “we’re edgy and cool kids” vibe that is either cringy or makes you feel like the band got old and they still want to appeal to teenagers and young adults. The message of the song is the same as the previous one. The melody of the chorus and the vocals overall are not that bad, they’re catchy, but just like the intro of the album, it still misses the guitars, although this one has some really quiet clean guitars in the background. It’s clear that the vocals are in the focus and it’s stressed by shoving autotuned Oli’s voice down our throat.
sugar, honey, ice and tea is one of my favorites off the album without a doubt. The riff is heavy, the song still feels like an alternative rock song but this time the guitar tone for me seemed like an old HIM song that’s mixed with a That’s the spirit era beat, lyrics and melody. It has the same feeling when I heard Happy Song for the first time but this one has a Throne-like chorus with the samples going instead of Oli’s voice. In the outro Oli goes crazy and lets out Count Your Blessings-era styled screams which definitely help the song appeal to older fans. It’s gonna be played at concerts for sure.
why you gotta kick me when i’m down, oh boy where do i begin. Imagine Post Malone writing a song for a no name alternative rock band. Add overdistorted guitars and a mumble rap beat and lyrics. You’re done, you get this song. It shifts genres so fast that it seems like Oli went from ‘Lil Sykes’ and back to himself a couple times in just 4 minutes. It’s not a terrible song but if you don’t like the style of modern soundcloud rappers and the whole mumble rap mixed with guitars thing you’re gonna hate this one.
fresh bruises, after the mumble rap song the boys in the band were probably like: hmmm what’s the next popular thing in 2019 that has nothing to do with rock. That’s right:”lo-fi hiphop for sleeping and studying” radios. The lyrics are only 2 lines, the beat gets faster but it’s still boring, even for an interlude. Definitely the most forgettable song in the album.
mother tongue, is the last single before the album came out. It’s the most honest love song from Oli that he’s probably ever gonna write. For personal reasons right now I can relate to it but if you can’t, you’re gonna forget this song even after a couple of listens. It has a powerful chorus, a radio friendly pop beat, cute ass lyrics and the most important thing: it has the potential to infect the radio stations and get the band even more recognition. The chord progression is really popular, (has the same chords as Africa by Toto), the vocals (with the help of autotune) are great. It has the Follow You vibes all over again but here you get an impression of a happy Oli Sykes that is in a fulfilling relationship and has a stable mental state. This progression is really respectable even if you don’t like the song itself.
heavy metal is my most favorite track from the record. It’s basically a huge “fuck you” to the oldest fans who only play Medusa and Pray for Plagues on repeat to this day, 13 years after their release. It’s got that middle finger in the lyrics that makes you think: damn this band really wanted a change and nothing can stop them. The song made me feel like Meteora days Linkin Park once again because of its beatbox styled bridge and the dropped, heavy guitars. This song shows the new direction of the band once and for all: they wanna make all types of music for both new AND old fans (listen to the last couple of seconds for the Pray for Plagues style vocals from Oli) but still says that nope we’re not gonna change, we grew up, we still like our old songs but you’re not gonna hear them from us because we’re different people now. Big props to the band to be this brave and say: this shit ain’t heavy metal.
i don’t know what to say, the last song on the record for me seemed really off topic from the album until I read what it’s written about. It’s about a friend of Oli who passed away from cancer. Oli didn’t write a song posthomously but the lyrics make it seem like he did. The song itself would sound like an 80′s power ballad from a classic rock band for me if I wouldn’t notice Oli’s vocals and the modern drum beat at some places. It even has a damned guitar solo, an acoustic guitar throughout, and orchestra. (which again reminded me Oh No, the closing track of That’s The Spirit) The song is forgettable for me, even though the message is really touching and meaningful. For a closing track it’s good but since it’s really different from the rest of the album it seems that they only put this song on just to honor that friend that it’s written about.
The album is one of the weirdest concepts I’ve heard from any rock band since A Thousand Suns by Linkin Park. The band put their heart and soul in it, you can tell by the level of production. On some songs it’s really well executed, others seem cheap and boring. My summary is that old BMTH is dead, they’re still gonna play rock music as they did with their previous records but they’re gonna expand and experiment to other directions, making it as progressive as possible just to keep the music entertaining.

Bring Me The Horizon  - AMO
Track List:
I Apologize if you Feel Something
Mantra
Nihilist Blues
In The Dark
Wonderful Life
Ouch
Medicine
Sugar Honey Ice & Tea
Why You Gotta Kick Me When I’m Down?
Fresh Bruises
Mother Tongue
Heavy Metal
I Don’t Know What To Say
I don’t even know how to introduce this band anymore, I don’t think I have to really because I’m pretty sure everyone’s heard of them at this point. So Bring Me The Horizon WERE one of the biggest names in metal for a time, but how it would appear that they’re not really interested in that sort of thing anymore and are barrelling down a path to the mainstream seen, so lets see the damage.
Let's just get it out there, we all know it by now this is not a metal album, not by any means. Putting that aside I’m going to look through and see if I can pick out anything that would make me go out and buy the record. So the only songs I can pull out that I’d even consider songs are “Mantra”, “Wonderful Life”, “Sugar Honey Ice & Tea”, “Why You Gotta Kick Me When I’m Down?”, “Mother Tongue” and “Heavy Metal”. Now thats no disrespect to people who like the other tracks but from a rock or metal perspective where these guys come from they seem to just be filler to beef the album up, some standard dance track fodder.
What can I say, I mean they’re a bunch of talented musicians there is no dispute in that, but there is a sense of sadness in the fact they’ve moved on from what they were extremely good at and what got them to where they are. Whatever though, it is what it is and it's still quite enjoyable stuff.

Amo
I'm a few weeks late but I want to praise BMTH for their newest album, Amo. Regardless if you like the style of music or not, the care and thought put into both the production and the lyrics is evident in every single track. I'll be posting a commentary of every single track by the end of the week.
Moving on, I want to talk about their performance too. I go to a shit ton of concerts, and I can safely say that its one of the best I've ever been to. They played an even mix of both new and previous songs from Sempiternal and That's The Spirit.
Their opening acts were also very well-chosen, my personal favorite being Fever 333, which had amazing energy (at one point the lead singer literally climbed up the wall to the second floor balconies) and an even better message for their audience.
While I do prefer their heavier music, I've been a fan of Bring Me The Horizon for a very long time, and overall I'm happy with the change. Bands are allowed to grow, and if a certain style of music doesn't make them happy anymore then they're allowed to change it.

I've listened to amo a few times now per Oli's suggestion and honestly, it's a decent album. It has its songs that slap but also some that just don't do anything for me. Here are my listening thoughts on the 4th time around.
Tumblr media
i apologise if you feel something (opener, skip)
MANTRA (jam!)
nihilist blues (long and meh, skip)
in the dark (mood dependent)
wonderful life (jam)
ouch (decent filler, may bop)
medicine (sing-along time)
sugar honey ice & tea (post medicine jam)
why you gotta kick me... (skip)
fresh bruises (likely skip)
mother tongue (definite bop)
heavy metal (probably skip, honestly)
i don't know what to say (may listen but likely skip)
This definitely isn't my favorite release by Bring Me The Horizon, and no, it's not because I'm salty that they aren't heavy metal anymore, I get what they're trying to do, I just don't know if they hit their marks. If they truly want to be the gateway to heavier music, I believe songs like medicine, sugar honey ice & tea, and MANTRA are the direction they should go vs. the more forgettable electronic sound of tracks like nihilist blues and pretty much all my other skip worthy picks. I'd give the album a 6.5/10 because while about half the album in my opinion is rather characterless, the songs that do hit home do it very well.
