franz kafka's it's a wonderful life (1993)

a wonderful short-movie by peter capaldi, depicting franz kafka stuck in a creative crisis while writing "the metamorphosis", not being able to come up with a creature gregor samsa transforms in - due to his loud environment.

so bizarre and full of little details and references. i enjoyed it a lot. kafka's guilt, about the life and death of an insect - that he himself killed, was an interesting thing to observe.

AND DAMN IT WOULDN'T YA KNOW THIS WAS THE SONG I SANG AT MY HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION SO THIS IS ALREADY ASSOCIATED WITH THE END OF AN ERA BUT TO BE THROAT PUNCHED LIKE THAT!!?!? AT THE END OF T H I S MOVIE OF ALL PLACES???? WITH THE CALLBACKS AND THE BTS FOR ALL THE X-MEN MOVIES AND THE OG DAREDEVIL MOVIE AND ALL THEM AND FAAAACK THEY REALLY DID THAT. Starting a challenge tomorrow where I listen to one TMBG album a day chronologically until my epic journey starts

I read a review about “Wonder Boys,” in which the reviewer suggests that the main character finds it impossible to finish his book due to his inability to make decisions in his real life. This indecisiveness reflects in his book, which, like his life, is complicated and tangled, dictated by desires—desires to be bigger, better, to have it all. But how many of these desires are truly his, and how many come from outside? And can you even have it all? (No.) When you have everything but you’re still not satisfied, maybe you don’t have anything at all. Only after losing the book does he realize this. His life is not meaningful if he is just drifting in the wind, and his book is not meaningful if every idea is in it. ( also funny how the book just got drifted in the wind, which set him free, but even that wasn’t his choice)

This got me wondering: what does my inability to write say about my life? I want to write with my whole being, but I can’t bring myself to do so. I can only write when I am bursting with feelings, and that doesn’t happen much anymore. I have ideas, but they don’t seem as good when I lay them on paper. Or perhaps I’m just not talented enough to convey my thoughts into my words. Even when I force myself to write, I start to hate it afterward. So what does this say about me? Now I wonder.

ALBUM REVIEW NOBODY CARED ABOUT PART VII: SPIRIT PHONE EDITION

Lifetime Achievement Award: 7.75/10

It took me embarrassingly long to realize that the first letters of delta echo alpha delta spell out “D.E.A.D.”. Anyways, EVEN AS WE SPEAK WERE SYNTHESIZING BLOOD AND ORGANS SYNTHESIZING HEART AND SOUL.

Touch Tone Telephone: 7.75/10

Fun fact: this was the first lemon demon song I actually liked enough to listen to it repeatdly. After i stopped liking this song, i stopped listening to lemon demon, then I found cabinet man, and i started listening to lemon demon more and started liking this song again.

Caminet Man: 5/10

Ehh. I get why it’s popular cause it’s a great song. I just stopped liking it as much when I listened to the rest of the album. Also, it’s probably too late to say this, but I’m rating on how much I like it, not on how good it is.

No Eyed Girl: 7.5/10

Love how the bass Im this song is Neil with a voice effect. Great.

Also, if i’m correct the lyric is “without proof i know” but i thought it was “without proof, oh no!”

When he died: 8/10

Unfortunately, instead of listening to this on Spotify or something, I’m listening to it on audiomack, so i doubt get to hear the great transition from “no eyed girl” into “when he died” :(

Never noticed the slight echo on Neil’s voice before, sick

Sweett bod: 8/10

Don’t play this one in front of your parents!

One time in math class, we were listening to the class playlist and this song started playing. My math teacher immediately said “this is horrible, who requested this” and as soon as he read who made the song the whole class looked at me.

My Seven Comfort Movies are:

1. The Clock (1945)

100/10 - Joe and Alice are so cute. Simple but beautiful and sweet romance story. No misery or negatives to it. You feel on the edge of your seat because of the time crunch they’re in.

2. Seventh Heaven (1937)

100/10 - same vibe as The Clock: simple and absolutely the sweetest. Chico and Diane are so tender and cute. Beautiful and innocent love story set in Paris 1914, unfortunately there is a sad turn, but I will not spoil it (although I will say, everyone survives - don’t worry) still very sweet.

3. It Happened One Night (1939)

90/10 - very cute. Another sweet romance. It’s not lovey dovey but you can still tell that they like each other for the majority of the movie. Nice ending. Funny too. I love it very much 😊😌.

4. The Good The Bad and The Ugly (1966)

100/10 - my goodness. This classic western is the king of westerns for me. I also really love Once Upon a Time in the West. Clint is breathtaking and badass. Tuco is fun and crazy and Angel Eyes is cool, they all fit perfectly in the film. The aura is absolutely spot on, the stunning score by Ennio Morricone just make the movie perfect, along with the scenery and the classic style of the movie. It’s beautiful. Always my fav.

5. Dirty Dancing (1987)

9.8/10 - cute. Me and my sister’s summer movie. Patrick Swayze is the beautiful centerpiece in this. The dancing is captivating. The songs are nostalgic and catchy. Only things I’m not fond of is the guy that owns a hotel that calls baby “kid” and Penny because I find them both so annoying and they are unfortunately in the movie for considerable time. Baby herself and her sister are kinda annoying too. Oh well…

6. The Mission (1986)

110/10 - heart breaking. Beautiful. The piece where Gabriel plays his oboe for the native people is so profound and beautiful. I love this movie. The historical portrayal is beautiful and the religious focus meaningful. Sad ending but I won’t spoil it. For me, Gabriel makes it the most sad 😭.

7. Mr Smith Goes to Washington (1939)

100/10 - captivating and beautiful. So inspiring and wholesome. Jimmy is so beautiful in here (as always). Mr smith is just a beautiful person entangled in the corrupt and rotten government politics. He shows what a good politician/senator should be like: he has strong morals and will fight until he drops for what’s right. It may be 2 hours but doesn’t feel at all that long. Great acting in this film, especially from the wonderful James Stewart.

I would like to honourably mention The Shop Around the Corner (1940)

because I love it so much as well ♥️

Also 100/10 - ah yes, another sweet romance movie with Jimmy. What’s there not to love but the bitterness that Ms Novak shows the lovely and Classy Mr Kralik until the end. Very cute and sweet with a lovely ending.

“It’s a Fabulous Life” was a quick and cute holiday read. Perfect for the end of December! This book is for you if you want to fit in a fast paced, no spice, all fluff wlw romance before the end of the year!

My Top 5 Christmas Movies

5. The Santa Clause (1994)- I love Tim Allen as the obnoxious businessman turned (literally) into Santa Clause due to an accident and a magical contract. This movie is both funny and heartwarming.

4. White Christmas (1954)- I love the relationships in this movie; both the friendships and the romances. Amazing musical with great actors!

3. Scrooge (1970)- The musical is hands down my favorite version of A Christmas Carol! Albert Finney (actually 33 in this movie) did an amazing job portraying Scrooge’s character and his change of heart. And the songs were really fun!

2. Miracle on 34th Street (1947)- Nothing beats the original version. Amazing actors, especially Edmund Gwenn (Santa), and the court scene has some of the funniest moments ever! I also love the message of the film.

It's a Wonderful Life (1946)- I watch this movie every year! It shows that one person can make a difference to so many people, and that “no man is a failure who has friends.” It is the most beautiful and touching Christmas film of all time!
