Taxi from Brighton to Gatwick: The Ultimate Guide for a Comfortable Journey
Tumblr media
A taxi from Brighton to Gatwick is one of the most convenient and reliable ways to travel between these two popular destinations in the south of England. Whether you're heading to Gatwick Airport for a flight or coming from the airport to explore Brighton, a taxi ride offers a hassle-free and comfortable option. With professional drivers and straightforward service, a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick ensures you reach your destination on time, without the stress of navigating public transport or worrying about the traffic.
In this guide, we will explore the various benefits of choosing a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick, how to book one, and what to expect during your ride. We will also discuss alternative transport options and provide helpful tips to ensure your trip is smooth and efficient.
Why Choose a Taxi from Brighton to Gatwick?
Convenience and Comfort
The primary reason why many travelers opt for a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick is the convenience it offers. Unlike public transport options such as buses or trains, a taxi offers a direct, door-to-door service. Whether you’re heading to the airport early in the morning or late at night, you don’t have to worry about missing your transport or carrying heavy luggage through crowded stations. A taxi will pick you up from your location and take you directly to Gatwick, ensuring a comfortable and stress-free journey.
Time-Saving
If you value your time and want to get to Gatwick without delays, a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick is an excellent choice. With a taxi, you don’t have to wait for buses or trains or make transfers between multiple modes of transport. Depending on traffic conditions, the journey typically takes between 30 and 45 minutes. This means you can avoid the stress of long queues and unreliable public transport, giving you more time to relax before your flight or arrival.
Stress-Free Travel
Traveling to and from an airport can be stressful, especially when carrying luggage or dealing with unfamiliar locations. A taxi from Brighton to Gatwick eliminates this stress by providing a professional driver who knows the fastest and most efficient routes. Whether you’re catching a flight or heading to Brighton for business or leisure, you can rest easy knowing that your driver will handle all the details of your trip, leaving you to focus on what matters most.
How to Book a Taxi from Brighton to Gatwick?
Online Booking
Booking a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick online is one of the most convenient methods. Many reputable taxi services in Brighton offer online booking platforms or apps where you can schedule your ride in advance. Online booking allows you to choose your pick-up time, input your destination, and often even select the type of vehicle you prefer. You can also view an estimate of the fare before confirming your booking, making it easy to plan your travel budget.
Phone Booking
If you prefer a more traditional approach, you can also book a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick over the phone. Most taxi companies in Brighton have dedicated phone lines that allow you to speak directly with a customer service representative. This option is ideal for travelers who have specific questions about the service or need immediate assistance. The representative can also provide an exact fare estimate and help you with any special requirements, such as child seats or extra luggage space.
Airport Taxi Service
Another option is to book a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick through the airport’s official taxi service. Gatwick Airport has a taxi rank with licensed vehicles available for pre-arranged bookings. This service guarantees that you will receive a professional driver familiar with the airport and surrounding areas. While this service may be slightly more expensive than other options, it offers peace of mind and ensures a high level of reliability.
What to Expect During Your Taxi Ride from Brighton to Gatwick?
Professional Drivers
When you book a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick, you can expect to be driven by a licensed and experienced professional. Taxi drivers are familiar with the local routes and traffic patterns, so you can trust them to take the fastest and safest route to your destination. Drivers are also required to maintain a high standard of professionalism and customer service, ensuring that your ride is comfortable and pleasant.
Comfortable Vehicles
Most taxis from Brighton to Gatwick are well-maintained and comfortable, with modern vehicles that offer a smooth ride. Whether you’re traveling alone with a small bag or with a group and large luggage, there are various vehicle options to choose from. For example, larger groups can opt for a minivan or executive taxi, while smaller groups or solo travelers can book a standard four-door sedan. Whichever vehicle you choose, you can expect it to be clean, well-kept, and equipped with air conditioning for your comfort.
Timely Arrival
A major benefit of booking a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick is the timely arrival. Taxis are usually very punctual, picking you up at the scheduled time and ensuring that you arrive at your destination well in advance of your flight. Drivers are familiar with the most efficient routes to avoid traffic delays, and they will monitor the traffic conditions in real time to provide the fastest possible journey.
Luggage Assistance
Traveling with luggage can be a hassle, especially when transferring between different modes of transport. With a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick, you don’t have to worry about lugging your bags through train stations or bus stops. Your driver will assist with loading and unloading your luggage, ensuring that your trip is as easy as possible. If you have special requirements, such as oversized luggage or bulky items, you can mention this during booking, and the taxi service will accommodate your needs.
Benefits of Taking a Taxi from Brighton to Gatwick
Direct, Door-to-Door Service
One of the biggest advantages of a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick is the door-to-door service. Unlike public transport, where you may need to make multiple stops or walk long distances to reach your destination, a taxi will pick you up from your home, hotel, or any other location in Brighton and drop you off directly at Gatwick Airport. This eliminates the hassle of transfers or walking with heavy luggage, making it the most convenient option for many travelers.
Comfort and Privacy
A taxi from Brighton to Gatwick offers a level of privacy and comfort that you won’t find on public transport. You can relax in a private vehicle, listen to your favorite music, or catch up on some work while enjoying the air conditioning. With a taxi, you have control over the environment, so you can ensure a more personalized and pleasant experience compared to crowded buses or trains.
Flexible and Convenient Timing
Unlike buses and trains, which have set timetables, a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick can be booked at a time that suits your schedule. Whether you need to depart early in the morning or late in the evening, you can arrange a ride for the exact time you need. This flexibility makes taxis a great choice for early flights or late-night arrivals.
Alternatives to Taxi from Brighton to Gatwick
Train Services
For those looking for a more affordable option, trains are a popular alternative to a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick. The direct train service from Brighton to Gatwick takes approximately 30 minutes and runs regularly throughout the day. Trains are a fast and efficient way to reach Gatwick, but they can be crowded at peak times, and you may need to navigate busy train stations with luggage.
Bus Services
If you’re on a tighter budget, buses are another alternative to a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick. The National Express offers direct coach services between Brighton and Gatwick, with journeys taking around 1 hour and 30 minutes. While buses are generally cheaper than taxis, they can be slower and less comfortable, especially during busy travel periods.
Conclusion:
Opting for a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a comfortable, convenient, and reliable travel option between these two popular locations. Whether you’re traveling for business, leisure, or catching a flight, a taxi provides door-to-door service, professional drivers, and a stress-free experience. With flexible booking options and a range of vehicles to choose from, you can enjoy a smooth and timely journey. For those who prefer not to deal with the hassle of public transport, a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick is the ultimate solution to ensure you arrive at your destination relaxed and on time.

Fast and Reliable: Choosing the Right Taxi Service in Brighton
Brighton, with its vibrant culture, historic landmarks, and stunning seaside, beckons both residents and visitors to explore its charm. Navigating the city's bustling streets and picturesque neighborhoods is made seamless with the right taxi service. In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into the key considerations for choosing a taxi service in Brighton that not only promises speed but also reliability, ensuring you can move through the city with efficiency and confidence.
Tumblr media
The Need for Fast and Reliable Taxi Services
The Pace of City Life
Brighton's lively atmosphere demands transportation that aligns with its pace. Fast and reliable taxi services become essential for those looking to make the most of their time in a city that offers a myriad of attractions, events, and cultural experiences.
Convenience in Connectivity
Whether you're a local commuting to work or a tourist exploring the sights, a taxi that is fast and reliable serves as a convenient and accessible mode of transportation. The ability to connect easily from one point to another contributes significantly to the overall convenience of navigating Brighton.
What to Look for in a Taxi Service
1. Speed Matters - Evaluating Response Time
Quick Response Time
The hallmark of a fast taxi service is a quick response time. Evaluate the average time it takes for a taxi to arrive after a booking or a street hail. This information is crucial, especially when you need prompt transportation, whether for business meetings or catching a train.
Real-Time Tracking
Modern taxi services often provide real-time tracking, allowing you to monitor the location of your taxi before it arrives. Real-time tracking enhances your planning and provides peace of mind, knowing exactly when your ride will be at your location.
2. Reliability - A Pillar of Trust
Fleet Maintenance
Reliability extends beyond speed; it involves the overall condition of the taxi fleet. Choose a taxi service that prioritizes regular maintenance, ensuring that vehicles are in excellent working condition. A well-maintained fleet reduces the likelihood of breakdowns and ensures a smooth ride.
Driver Professionalism
Reliability is also reflected in the professionalism of the taxi drivers. Courteous and knowledgeable drivers who adhere to traffic rules and prioritize passenger safety contribute to a positive and reliable taxi experience.
Tailoring the Taxi Experience to Your Needs
1. Customization Options - Adapting to Passenger Preferences
Specialized Services
The right taxi service recognizes that each passenger may have unique needs. Whether it's accommodating passengers with disabilities, providing child seats, or offering pet-friendly options, customization ensures that the taxi service can adapt to a diverse range of passenger requirements.
Payment Options and Transparency
Customization also extends to payment preferences. Choose a taxi service that offers a variety of payment options, whether it's cash, credit card, or digital wallets. Transparent pricing and detailed receipts contribute to a positive and customizable experience.
2. Technological Advancements - Enhancing the Journey
Mobile Applications for Convenience
Many modern taxi services provide user-friendly mobile applications. These apps allow passengers to book rides, track their taxis, and make payments seamlessly. Technological advancements contribute to the overall convenience and efficiency of the taxi experience.
In-Car Amenities
In-car amenities, such as Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and charging ports, enhance the overall taxi journey. Choose a taxi service that prioritizes passenger comfort by offering these technological enhancements.
Selecting the Right Taxi Service in Brighton: A Checklist
1. Evaluating Your Options - A Step-by-Step Guide
Researching Taxi Services in Brighton
Start your journey by researching the available taxi services in Brighton. Online platforms, reviews, and recommendations from locals can provide valuable insights into the experiences of other passengers.
Comparing Response Times
Pay attention to response times. A taxi service that consistently provides quick response times indicates efficiency and reliability. Compare this aspect among different providers to make an informed choice.
Assessing Fleet Conditions
Evaluate the condition of the taxi fleet. Look for information on fleet maintenance practices, vehicle cleanliness, and overall fleet conditions. A well-maintained fleet is indicative of a reliable taxi service.
Reviewing Driver Feedback
Consider driver feedback. Positive reviews about driver professionalism, courtesy, and safe driving practices contribute to the overall reliability of the taxi service.
The Brighton Taxi Experience: A Journey Through Efficiency
1. Realizing the Journey - Efficient Exploration of Brighton
Fast and Reliable Commutes to Iconic Landmarks
Experience the efficiency of a fast and reliable taxi service as you explore iconic landmarks such as the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Pier, and the historic Lanes. Efficient transportation allows you to maximize your time and make the most of your visit.
Seamless Travel to Cultural Hotspots
Navigate the city's cultural hotspots seamlessly. From the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery to the Brighton Dome, a fast and reliable taxi service ensures that you can immerse yourself in the city's cultural offerings with ease.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the right taxi service in Brighton, one that is both fast and reliable, is pivotal in enhancing your overall experience in this vibrant city. Whether you're a local resident commuting to work or a visitor exploring the sights, a taxi service that prioritizes speed, reliability, and customer satisfaction contributes to a positive and efficient journey. By considering factors such as response time, fleet conditions, driver professionalism, and technological enhancements, you can tailor your taxi experience to match your preferences. The efficiency of a reliable taxi service not only saves time but also adds value to your exploration of Brighton, ensuring that every journey becomes a seamless and enjoyable part of your experience in this charming city.

"listen, jay, we can meet up as soon as this semester ends, alright?" you say, trying to compromise with him. "as soon as I get back, I'll hop on a flight to Austin."
It's not like you wanted to put such a big wedge between the two of you, but you had gotten such a big offer from University of Brighton (full ride, you couldn't turn that down) towards your Art and Design degree, that there was absolutely no way you were going anywhere in the US. You lived in New York originally, you and Schlatt grew up together. It was weird being so far away from him.
"you can't just come now? take a week off or something?" he groaned.
"you know I can't," you sigh, sitting down on the bed in your dorm. "it's may. i'll be there in a few weeks, the term isn't much longer."
it was always odd having this conversation with him. something never felt right. you understood wanting to see him as a friend, but you always wanted to see him more than that. you chalked it up to being so close, but you knew in some small part of your mind that it wasn't the reason.
"alright, fine. but you're coming straight here when you're done."
"deal."
~
schlatt nearly lost an arm and a fucking leg trying to get here. first, the airport in Texas wasn't accepting his passport, then there was an issue with his luggage, and he almost missed his flight. and if that wasn't enough, he couldn't find the correct exit in the airport in Brighton, and there were no taxis available, making him stand there and wait for 45 minutes. thankfully, you had told him the time of your graduation in a phone call a few nights ago when you were complaining about how late it was.
he finally made it to the college after his many issues, and was just in time to watch you walk the stage.
"Y/N L/N, graduating with honors and a bachelor's degree in Art and Design." The crowd clapped as you stepped up on stage, from your seat down on the floor, taking the diploma and shaking the hands of the many people on stage. on your way back down, you think you pot a familiar face, but psych yourself out of the thoughts before you think about it too hard.
the ceremony ends a while after, and the crowd and graduates are dismissed. you planned on just going back to your dorm to pack, taking your cap off and holding it and your diploma under your arm as you walk, staring down at your phone.
"leaving without me?" you hear from behind you, making you perk up and whip around, seeing your favorite person standing behind you.
"oh my god!" you exclaim, jumping into his arms excitedly. tears of joy brim your eyes, laughing as he hugged you back.
you stayed like that for a good minute or so before he put you down and you separated.
"when did you get here?" you ask through laughs, wiping your eyes.
"just a while ago, made it right on time." he answers.
"jesus christ, i love you." you say before even realizing your mistake, and it took you a moment to register his silence.
you look up at him once you realized, a look of terror and guilt on your face. he looks serious, making you question if you had just blown it all. you hadn't even planned on telling him at all.
thankfully, he breaks and laughs, pulling you into a hug again. "love you too, toots."
you let out a breath of relief and laugh, holding him as tight as you can. "you came at the perfect time, I need someone to help me pack."
schlatt playfully groans in response to that, but looks down at you. "i guess i'll help you."

"I’ll Hold Your Hands."
Wilbur x anxious!reader 1303 words • 8.16.23 Request from @ax-y10! Reader has anxiety and picks at their hands and fingers. Reader is also overstimulated and nervous, but Will comforts! wilbur soot masterlist here :)
It's our first date, but you've shown me that even through anxious habits, you'll do anything to make me happy.
♡♡♡
“Hey, you ready?” A soft voice asked through the phone. Even with no effort his accent could send shivers down my spine.
“Mhm,” I hummed. “Give me a moment to come downstairs.” I took one final look in the mirror, making sure my outfit was pressed down enough to compliment my curves and gorgeous enough to let Will know there won’t be any regrets in asking me out. I slipped on the perfect set of shoes before walking out of my hotel room and toward the nearest elevator.
I was only staying in Brighton for two weeks before heading back home. Wilbur and I have been friends for a while beforehand. It wasn’t until recently that mutual feelings started to bubble up between us. It was a late night 2 AM call when Will asked me:
“Hey, (y/n)..?”
“Yes, Will?”
“Um… If you do come to Brighton anytime soon… I know a lovely place for us to eat dinner.”
I chuckled, noticing the shyness of his voice. “Are you asking me out, Mr. Gold?”
“Perhaps.”
After some packing and planning, I flew out to the United Kingdom to visit friends, travel to different locations, and most of all, go on my first date with the one and only, Wilbur Soot.
The elevator doors slid open. I walked out with the clicking of my shoes echoing down the hallway. Once I made it to the lobby, it didn’t take long to spot the dashing tall man sitting on one of the complementary couches. His legs were crossed with his glasses resting upon the bridge of his nose. I waved at him in an attempt to get his attention, and soon enough he spotted me as well.
Once he got up, I was able to see his outfit more properly. He was wearing black slacks with black dress shoes on, and he wore an orange dress shirt with the top three buttons unbuttoned. His hair was fluffier than usual, and his sleeves were folded up to show his forearms.
A big smile was planted on his face now as he outstretched his arms. I picked up my pace before nearly throwing myself in his embrace, hugging him tightly. His limbs wrapped around my waist before lifting me in the air and twirling me around.
“It feels good to finally see you! He exclaimed through laughs. He put me down and stepped back a bit, admiring my outfit. “You look so beautiful..” He muttered.
A soft chuckle escaped my lips. “I could say the same for you.” I said, making sure I hid my hands behind my back. He raised an eyebrow before reaching for my arm and holding my hand.
“Come on, the restaurant is just a taxi cab away.” He said, to which I nodded in response. We walked side-by-side, but a bit of my confidence faltered. Did he notice my fingers? I painted them this morning so that from a glance, they looked perfectly fine. But I know that with a good look, anyone could notice the peeling skin, the bitten-off nails, and the swollen tips. It’s safe to say, I wasn’t opting to be a hand model anytime soon.
Wilbur kept my hand in his as we entered the taxi. After he directed the driver and paid him, he turned to me. “Hey, you doing alright?” He asked. He used his thumb to soothe the back of my hand, but his furrowed eyebrows and worried glance never left my face.
“Hm? Oh, I’m fine, Will, don’t worry.” I reassured.
I was very much not fine.
I didn’t have the realization that I was in an entirely new country, going on a date with a long-term best friend I’ve had on the internet, to what I presume to be a relatively fancy restaurant in the city—
until now.
Nervously, with my other hand, I started to pick off the skin of my thumb with my index finger, a little frustrated that I was unable to use both hands. Wilbur and I continued to have regular conversations as I absent-mindedly scratched off nail polish and skin.
Once we got to the restaurant, I made sure to hide my other hand in my pocket or behind my back. Anywhere out of Wilbur’s vision. The only time Wilbur let go of my hand was to check off the reservation he had for us as we followed the waiter to our table. In cushioned chairs, we sat across from each other. The white tablecloth and circular surface sat promptly in between us.
Our waiter placed the menus in front of us, and Wilbur immediately picked up the booklet to begin examining the options. I, on the other hand, quickly flipped it open and hid my hands under the table, still fiddling with swollen fingers. Once again, my heart was racing. The abundance of people in the room chattering with utensils clinking against plates, someone I consider important in my life sitting right in front of me, my shaking leg bouncing my hands up and down— I’m getting overstimulated.
“(y/n)? (y/n)!” His voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I looked up, only to notice our waiter was back with a pen and notepad. I glanced over to Will. His head was tilted, and he only looked at me with concerned glistens in his eyes. “Do you know what you want to drink?” He asked softly. I looked over to the waiter again.
“Oh— uh, can I just get a water?” I asked, stammering over my words. The waiter nodded before walking away to retrieve our beverages.
“(y/n), you haven’t been holding up so well and you look pale. Is everything alright?” Wilbur asked. His hands were placed on the table, almost reaching at me so that he may take my hand in his. I sighed, looking down at my lap in shame.
“You promise not to judge, right?” I said.
Wilbur shook his head. “No, no, of course not, love… Tell me what’s wrong.”
With a deep inhale, I placed my hands on the table. My nail polish was chipped, and the tips of my fingers were beet red. By the sides of my nails, my skin was peeling off.
“Oh, sweetheart,” He sighed. Carefully, he picked my hands up by the palm and brought them close to his lips, gingerly kissing each finger with the softness of his lips. My face flushed at the sight, not being able to look away.
“I-it’s just,” I started. Tiny tears started to prick at my eyes. “I didn’t realize how fast this was all happening, and I guess I started to get all… Panic-y. I-I’m just really sorry. I didn’t want to ruin tonight.” I stuttered out with a trembling voice.
“Love, I promise you, you didn’t ruin anything. Everything is okay. Do you want to get out of here? If this is all too much we can go back to the hotel and just hang out there. Anything you want, (y/n). Because what matters at the end of the day, to me, is that we have a great time together.” He planted one last kiss in the palm of my hand. “That’s all I want for us.”
I couldn’t help the small sniffle as the warmth of his words wrapped me tightly in a blanket. I looked at him with lovestruck in my eyes. I wanted to do nothing but melt in his embrace, bury myself in the crook of his neck every morning, to hold hands while walking around the big city. At that moment I knew—
I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.
With the sincerest smile, I looked at him.
“Just keep holding my hands, Will.”
In turn, his dimples nearly lit up my whole world.
“Only for you.”

You hated heartbreak and the way it seemed to accompany you like an old friend. Several bad breakups led to the collective feeling of needing to leave, wanting to run, so you did. It wasn’t hard to find a university you could study abroad in and accommodations, especially with the proficiency in your courses meaning a scholarship wasn’t hard to find. Choosing a place to go was the hardest part; you knew you wanted to go to the UK, but you didn’t know where. Thankfully, there was a pretty simple solution: throwing a dart at a map. Leading you here: Brighton. The taxi drove you to your new apartment, and there was a rock song playing you’d wished to have gotten the name of before you got dropped off.
After a week of unpacking and settling in, you’d gotten notably bored. So you decided to look for a place to go, or something to do, and you stumbled across a pretty small club that seemed quite nice. You walked in, and at first it reminded you of the dive bars back in America, but a bit nicer. You went up to the bar and ordered quickly, trying to speak a bit quieter given the glaringly obvious American accent. It wasn’t enough to entirely hide it, though. Once you got your drink, a blond boy who’d been next to you at the bar spoke up, loudly.
“Are you American?”
You looked at him and nodded. He seemed a bit younger, but given that he was in here meant he was probably at least 18. “Yeah, I just moved here.”
He perked up, grinning, “Follow me!” He didn’t give you much a choice before grabbing your arm and dragging you over to his friends, “My name’s Tommy, by the way! My brother Wilbur loves America, so he’ll be excited to meet you, c’mon!”
You chuckled, allowing yourself to be dragged over by him. He brought you to a group of five people, two of whom were incredibly tall. All five of them were giving an incredulous look at Tommy, making you laugh a bit.
“Wilbur!” Tommy basically yelled as he pulled you over, “I found an American!”
You fought the urge to hide your face in your hands, instead taking a sip of your drink.
One of the taller guys, who you presumed was Wilbur, sputtered at Tommy, “Tommy! You can’t just drag someone over because they’re American, for fucks sake.”
“Yes, but you love America and you needed some cheering up, so ta-da!”
Wilbur just facepalmed, sighing and looking over at you now. He was an attractive guy, light brown curls and a tall frame, plus a good fashion sense if the Doc Martins were anything to go off of. “I am so sorry he abducted you. He is a child with no sense of manners.”
You chuckled softly, especially as Tommy gasped dramatically in response. “It’s alright,” you smiled softly, “Beats the alternative of sitting alone at the bar for an hour, so.” You shrugged.
Wilbur gave you a bit of a thoughtful look, but before he could speak up, the girl next to Tommy spoke.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you, even if he literally just dragged you over. I’m Molly, Tommy’s girlfriend.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” you smiled softly, before Tommy took charge once more.
“Yes, right! Introductions! I’m Tommy, obviously the coolest one here, Molly is my wonderful and only wife, Jack over there is an dick, don’t be friends with him, but that’s his girlfriend Ellie, she’s too cool for him. You spoke to Wilbur, my lame brother, already, and the only one taller than him is the very gorgeous Ranboo,” he explained.
Not a single person looked pleased with his explanation, but they also didn’t exactly look surprised by him.
“Right, well, nice to meet you guys. I’m Y/N.”
“So, you’re actually from America? Are you visiting?” Jack asked, a kind smile on his face.
“Yeah, uh, I just moved here actually. I just needed a change of pace, I guess, so I actually transferred to the university out here.”
He nodded, and you could feel the entire group’s eyes on you for a moment. It was a bit unsettling, but that was more just the nerves.
“Cool, fellow American,” the tallest one, Ranboo, spoke up. You looked up at him (he was really tall), and you smiled.
“Glad to know I’m not the only one out here. How’d you end up out here?”
“Uh… work, actually. It’s kind of a long story, but I had to move out here for my work stuff, so I did.” He shifted his eyes a bit as he spoke, and you just nodded, assuming he didn’t want to be pressed on the matter.
“Wilbur,” Tommy spoke, “tell them some cool America facts.”
“Tommy, they very likely know them better than me given that they actually lived there.” Wilbur chuckled softly.
I smiled softly at Wilbur, “I’d still like to hear them. Maybe I can tell you if you’re mistaken about any of them.”
He looked over and gave you a grin, and the conversations paired off. You and Wilbur discussed America and where you lived, and the fact that Americans need to stop building parking lots, which you agreed with.
After nearly an hour and a half, he disengaged, turning to Tommy, “I have to head out now, Toms. I’ll see you tomorrow though, yeah?”
Tommy nodded, then gave Wilbur a bit of an evil grin, turning to you, “Did Wilbur tell you he’s a big musician? He’s got to leave early because he’s got a gig tomorrow and has to do boring musician things.”
“Really?” You grinned softly, “That’s really fucking cool.”
“Yeah, well, Wilbur’s lame, but his band is cool. You should come to the gig!” Tommy exclaimed, and Wilbur’s cheeks dusted red, eyes widening at Tommy.
“I’d love to, but, only if it’s okay with you, I guess,” You looked up at Wilbur, raising your eyebrows.
He nodded a bit stiffly, “yeah, no, that’d be great. The more the merrier. I’ll see you both tomorrow then.” He waved, heading off quite quickly after.
“Is… he going to be mad at you for inviting me?” You chuckled, looking over at Tommy.
“Eh, he will be at first. I’ll probably wake up to an upset text, but it’s just because he gets nervous playing in front of people he wants to impress. Once he does fine after, he’ll text me all ‘Oh, Tommy, you’re so smart and right, thank you for inviting them since I was too much of a pussyhole to ask myself,’” he mocked Wilbur’s voice, and you laughed a bit. You blushed slightly at the implication that Wilbur wanted to impress you.
After a bit longer, the group dispersed, and you headed home. You actually ended up living pretty close to Tommy, who was about two blocks down from you. As you headed inside to your apartment, you smiled and got excited at the idea of going to the gig tomorrow and seeing Wilbur again. You fell asleep excited and wondering what type of music you’d hear from him and pleased with the people you’d happened to find.
You managed to get to the gig without too much trouble the next day, and you were shocked by the sheer amount of people waiting outside. Tommy had texted you about going to a back entrance, which thankfully wasn’t too hard to find. He was waiting by the door to help you in as well, and you felt immediately starstruck.
The place was pretty big, and Wilbur was already standing in the centre of the stage, practicing something on his guitar. The lights were hitting him perfectly, and he looked like an angel. You struggled to look away, until Tommy came up and basically draped himself against you.
“Stop simpin’ after Wilbur, c’monnnn, we’re heading backstage. He needs his little ‘rockstar-practice time’ or whatever.”
You flushed, turning away from Wilbur, “I’m not simping, I’m just in awe. This is really cool.”
“Yeah, yeah, well,” he walked further backstage with you following him, “you should’ve seen how long it took him to get used to it. Whole band did a bunch of fake shows to get used to performing.”
“Really? That’s smart, actually.”
Tommy just shrugged, taking you to room backstage where there was a much larger group of people than the night before. You recognized Molly and Jack, but the other three were complete strangers.
“Oh, Y/N, you came!” Molly grinned, waving. You waved back at her, nodding a bit.
“These lot are more of the band. They are much cooler than Wilbur, you’ll find. That’s Ash, Leandra, and Mark.”
You waved, saying a quick hello, before allowing yourself to become an observer of the conversation.
The show started not too long after, with you, Jack, Molly, and Tommy watching from the side stage. You quickly discovered that the band, Lovejoy, was incredibly popular, and their music was fantastic. And Wilbur.
Wilbur was something else on stage. He was fully in his element, lights covering him in halo glows. His voice was melodic, and it made you want to melt. From the side stage, you could see how he leaned against the mic, the passion in his voice, and the intensity he matched in each song. It was about halfway through the show though, that you felt you blood run cold.
The song you’d heard in the cab when you moved in. It was their song. And if that wasn’t just the biggest coincidence slapping you in the face than god knows what was. You didn’t know what to make of it, other than feeling incredibly overwhelmed by fate and the new friends you’d made.
By the end of the show, you felt strange. You felt incredibly uncertain about your place in the world most days, but for some reason, as you watched Wilbur approach you and the group, you felt like there was no where else you belonged.
“Hey,” he walked over with a grin, “You came! What did you think?”
He looked almost nervous as he asked, sweat still dripping from his forehead as you chuckled, “It was amazing! I actually recognized one as well!”
A startled look crossed his face for a moment, “You did? Which one?”
“The, ah, I didn’t catch the name of it originally, but I want to say it’s Call Me What You Like if the setlists are correct. It was playing in my cab when I was dropped off in Brighton.”
He grinned, “Really? It was on the radio?”
You nodded, “Yeah! I thought it was fantastic, but I didn’t have time to catch the name. At least now I don’t have to worry about forgetting it.”
“Oh, trust me, I wouldn’t let you,” he gave you a grin that shined brighter than any light on that stage, and you felt butterflies flood your stomach as you considered that maybe it was fate that brought you here.
Sometimes you didn’t consider the ways that time worked. In the span of one year, so much more had changed than you’d ever even considered. You moved to a new country, started a new school, made new friends. You cut your hair, changed your wardrobe, got a better music taste. You became much more social, started dating Wilbur, learned to feel more confident in yourself.
The relationship probably was the most shocking of anything to happen. But it happened quickly, and it felt so right and so easy, as if your previous heartbreaks never occurred. You still had problems, mind you, however, there was something within you telling you it was fate constantly.
You thought about fate a lot when you thought about your relationship. The random effect of the universe tended to have a weird way of making you think about stuff like that. The statistical chances of choosing to move to Brighton by throwing a dart at a map, of hearing Wilbur’s song play in your cab. Then there were the numerous things you’d learned over time, small coincidences that pointed to a string of fate tying you together. Of the color of his first album being the color of your first prom dress. Of the time he visited America and ended up staying twenty minutes from where you lived. Of your first boyfriend sharing Wilbur’s middle name. Of all these tiny clues of parallel moments within your lives that you could only see now in retrospect.
The biggest thing within this string was the connection you felt to him that first night. It felt like that little string pulled you straight into that bar. When all of a sudden, all the stress and feelings you’d had about heartbreak and needing to run felt soothed, all past mistakes feeling fuzzy in comparison to something that was so right.
“Darling,” Wilbur chuckled softly, “What are you thinking so hard about?” He smiled, walking over to where you were already laying down, ready for bed.
“Do you ever think about fate?” You asked as he gently pressed a kiss to your forehead.
“Not often, I guess. Why?”
“I just think about us, and I just feel like there’s been a string connecting us, tying us together, and we just couldn’t see it.”
He smiled softly, slowly getting into bed next to you, “You think?”
“I don’t know for certain. But I know that there’s way too many coincidences to be normal. And that in one year, just by moving here… I don’t know it feels like I wasn’t living before being here, and even more now that I’m with you. I actually feel in charge of my life. Like time just changed everything for the better, and I have to at least believe that maybe it’s because fate brought us here.”
He wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you into him, “Yeah. I’ve never quite thought about it like that. I like that idea though. I mean, the chances of us actually meeting were so slim. As much as I don’t love the concept of fate, I’ll love fate for this. Because if fate is what brought me to you, then I owe it so much.”
You smiled lovingly at him, leaning forward to kiss him gently, “I owe it so much too. That- that little thread of gold tying us together.”
He held you a bit tighter, turning off the lamp next to him, “You think it’d be gold?”
“Oh, absolutely.”
He chuckled, “Why is that?”
“Because it’s your last name. And the leaves were gold when I moved here in the fall. What about you?”
“Hm,” he hummed, “Gold could be fitting. But I think it’d be some sort of blue or purple, like the sunset we watched on our first proper date.”
“That’d be nice,” you smiled softly, “I’m just glad it was there, if it is real.”
“Me too, love,” he whispered, before pulling you into a slow and gentle kiss.

A Study in Scarlet: The Lauriston Gardens Mystery
To quote the current dress regulations of the Royal Navy (https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/-/media/royal-navy-responsive/documents/reference-library/br-3-vol-1/chapter-38.pdf): "Sideburns for RM [Royal Marines] Personnel shall not extend below halfway down the ear." Moustaches can be worn by Royal Marines at their discretion, but not regular Royal Navy personnel. Beards require authorisation and are to be shaved off if the situation means that a gas mask is likely to be needed.
A hansom is a two-wheeled horsedrawn carriage with the driver sitting on an open-air seat at the back and officially two (although three could squeeze in) passengers in an enclosed cab below him, being able to give the driver instructions through a trap door. They were the standard London taxi until motorcabs turned up in 1908 and were largely superseded by the early 1920s, although the last licence for a hansom wasn't given up until 1947. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hansom_cab)
Taxis in London can be hailed on the street or via cab ranks. Minicabs were of course not a thing at this point. The taxi business in London has been regulated since 1635 - when the numbers proliferating the streets were starting to cause hazards.
A hat tip to @geeoharee for raising the distance involved for the taxi journey. At around 5.4 miles drive, you would probably be looking at around 24 at today's prices, depending on traffic.
The Brixton Road dates back to the Roman era as it was part of the London to Brighton (to use their modern names) road - it is today part of the A23 that follows the same route and is notably used for the annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. It had - and still has - a lot of Regency-style houses.
Strand is a major throughfare in the City of Westminster, part of the London theatreland area.
Trichinopoly is now called Tiruchirappalli, a major city in Tamil Nadu, India.

Tumblr media
no warnings just reader with her sister
————
“you’re late” crystal says as she opens the door
“only by two minutes”
“two minutes that i will be later to work”
“lo se lo se lo siento”
i know i know i’m sorry
she shuts the door
“i thought you and miguel were on the outs”
“we are, what are you talking about”
“wet hair that was clearly washed with men’s products”
“hey!”
“-glowing skin” she sniffs “day old clothes. my guess? you were at his place not even ten minutes ago”
you turn around and roll your eyes at her but when you do your hair that you had positioned to cover your neck falls off your shoulder
she gasps “and y/n Pardo are those hickies?!”
“what?! no” you hastily pull your hair back into place
“oh. my. god.”
“it’s not a big deal”
“mana are you kidding. hickeys are how men claim their territory. they can’t pee on you so they mark your neck for every other person to see that you’re taken even when they’re not around. he’s essentially saying “hands off! she mine”
mine. the thought sends shivers through you
“i thought you were gonna be late to work”
“mm you’re lucky, but we ~will~ talk about this later.”
“Niños, ven a despedirte de tu mamá”
boys come say goodbye to your mama”
Diego and Matias run in and tackle her with hugs and then immediately run over to you next
“se bueno hijos”
be good boys
“tu tambien hermana. hey do yourself a favor borrow something from my closet and uh concealers in the bathroom” she winks
you too sis
she heads out leaving you to a whole day with your favorite boys in the world.
you help Matias with his worksheets for school while Diego showed you all the toys he had gotten for his birthday.. again.
Then you make lunch and decide take them to brighton beach for the afternoon. the water will be too cold to go in but it’ll be a good chance for them to blow off steam and get outside.
the day passes quickly, but you still find your mind wandering back to miguel every so often.
why was he being so… good. even though he was a super hero compared to every other spider man sometimes he didn’t seem like one. superheroes didn’t brood or throw things. and yet he had comforted you through a panic attack, cooked food for you, helped you in… a few other ways.
he had done a fair share of asshole things and you had no intention of mothering him into shape. still he was trying.. and you weren’t perfect either.
you weren’t necessarily thinking about a relationship but… it was starting to feel like you were in one.
before you could spiral any farther down that rabbit hole diego came running up with a shell he’d found.
“woah chico eso es genial”
that’s cool
“puedo quedármelo?”
can i keep it
“por supuesto, podemos enseñárselo a tu mamá”
of course we can show it to your mama”
“Matias, vamos, hora de irse”
come on, it’s time to go
after a lot of begging to stay and a little bit of bribery you were back in the taxi on the way home.
it was dark out and the boys were in bed, Matias was reading to Diego to help him practice. his teachers had apparently noted that he was a little behind but since he’d started doing story time every night he had definitely improved.
Crystal walked in the door looking absolutely exhausted. she came in and kisses your forehead
“i am so glad i never have to worry about you swallowing balloons full of hallucinogenics ”
“what” you laugh
she waves you off and goes to say goodnight to the boys. she comes back out in pajamas and flops down on the couch next to you
“wine?”
“tequila”
“ay ya veo, one of those cases huh?”
she snorts “si”
you pour some tequila and guava juice over ice and hand it to her. she takes a greatful sip and sinks into the cushions.
“wanna talk about it”
“god no. i don’t want to think about work tonight, tomorrow, or at work for that matter”
“fair”
“you know what i do want to talk about”
“the super cool seashell we found at the beach today” you ask hopefully
“yeahhh that and your super fine super hero friend”
“there’s nothing to talk about crystal”
“mm see if you were just fucking that would be true but you’re fucking and fighting and then fucking again”
“so?”
“soooo there’s feelings there. and you are not good at those”
“hey give me some credit here i’ve gotten better about it”
“mm fine maybe a little bit. seriously though y/n you need to talk about it, i know you enough to know you’re probably overthinking about it right now”
“no i- i mean.. maybe a little”
“cmon, spill it, gimme all the juicy details”
“we’re not teenagers im not gonna gossip about boys with you”
“uh yes you are because i’m your older sister and i’m basically the boss of you so talk”
and you do. the tequila makes it easier. you fill her in on every single thing, leaving out only a few select explicit details. when you finally stop talking she stares at you with her mouth hanging open.
“why are you looking at me like that”
“i’m not looking at you any way”
“yes, yes you are. i know that face, you have something to say”
“no no im fine im good”
“i gave you every detail you don’t get to hold out on me now”
“i just.. want you to be careful mana. i know you can take care of yourself but this sounds complicated.. not just physically, emotionally. don’t get caught up in the good moments if they don’t outweigh the bad.”
you look down at your drink
“i know. i’m trying”
“what is it tia may always says? for every bad day, a good man-“
“-makes a hundred good ones. yeah. shes such a bad ass.”
“yeah she is, she never let tío ben get away with anything”
“no she did not. I can still hear her “Benicio! no te alejes de mi”
don’t walk away from me
“Benicio! necesito un bolso nuevo”
i need a new bag
your laughter eventually dies down and you’re quiet for a while.
“i went to see him”
you don’t have to explain. she knows exactly what you mean
“oh you did?” something about the way she says it sounds weird but you dismiss it
“marcus suggested it actually, figured it was time”
“i miss him”
“me too”
she rests her head on your shoulder and you two sit like that until she dozes off. you gingerly take the glass from her hand and set it on the coffee table. it’s almost 1.
you support her head as you lay her down and cover her with a blanket. you check your phone and notice there’s multiple texts from jess and the kids asking about what happened last night. you scroll through them but you stop when you notice a text that had come through two hours ago.
it was from miguel. he never texted, hated using a phone, he just had lyla call you or showed up evidently.
will you be home tonight?
you knew he meant home as in your other universe, but if you were any other two people it could just as easily be a partner asking if you’re coming home, to our shared space. the thought weirded you out.
you weren’t sure wether or not to text back, you
knew he was probably awake working since you weren’t there.
you were so sleepy, you could’ve easily crawled into crystals bed and passed out but you didn’t want to spend another night away from home. you sneak into the boys room and plant a gentle kiss on both foreheads and then climb onto the roof because the living room is too cramped for opening portals.
you step in and step out into your kitchen. you tug your clothes off as you walk to your bed and drop your bag on the floor next to you. you don’t even have the energy to grab pajamas for yourself so you reach for the closest thing which happens to be miguel’s shirt that you’d stuffed in with your jacket on accident before leaving.
you’re asleep before your head even hits the pillow.
