Tuna in for some good news! 🐟📰🎉

Pacific bluefin tuna are the Olympic athletes of the ocean—and among the most economically valuable fish in the sea. But with too few rules to prevent overfishing, these once-abundant fish were hunted down until just 2% of their historical population remained. 

But there’s hope! Over the past 30 years, the Aquarium has played a central role in bringing them back—from tagging and tracking tunas, to educating the public on the issue through our Seafood Watch program, to advising on international fisheries management, and more. 

Today, Pacific bluefin tuna are up to 23% of their historical population! There’s still work to do, but the prospects for these iconic fish are now so much brighter.

Today, after being reminded of events they'd rather forget, Jack holes up in their room, a blanket draped over their shoulders as they search for something on their phone to calm them down. After about half an hour of ignoring any verbal attempt to get them to rejoin the group, a soft knock sounds against the aged wood of their door. They ignore it at first, then they hear the sliding of someone sitting against the wall outside. Picking themself up of the bed, they shuffle to the door and open it to reveal a determined Sam, with something in his hand.

With a wave, and the enticing smell of freshly popped popcorn, Sam convinces Jack to follow him back to the Dean Cave, where he finally reveals what he's been holding. Sam shows Jack the very faded cover of a film Dean had stolen for him from a small video store in the late 80's: The Brave Little Toaster. He sheepishly admits that, although it's a kids movie, he secretly thinks of it when he's stressed, recently remembering that it was tucked under a seat of the Impala, waiting to be rediscovered.

Sam inserts the tape into the recently thrifted VHS player and he and Jack sit in the softly lit room and forget their troubles for a while, silently thinking about self worth and joking about how a hunter would deal with animated electronics.

In Regards To Your 2024 Summary:

Holy shit it’s been another year????? The hell?????

Also! Your art style is gorgeous and that being found in 2023 and then refined throughout late 2023 and the entirety of 2024 really shows, as does your growth in panel layouts, perspective, and — as you said — experimentation. If you ever post your animation or video game art I’m looking forward to it.

As cheesy as it sounds, being able to laugh at funny comics and look at all the details of your art really made my 2024 brighter, even when things were hard. Including looking at your older art— it doesn’t need to be new to be enjoyable! I’m glad your art is well loved and it’s a privilege to have been here since the (near) beginning. I hope you take care of yourself in 2025 and beyond!

Thank you so much for keeping up with my art journey throughout these last two years! Two years!!! I am baffled at how that feels both too long and too short!

Admittedly, my art summary didn't manage to capture the fact that I did a lot of comic layouts that I'm really proud of. I also drew more backgrounds and made some very detailed works (*Dungeon Meshi spoilers for these examples*).

The growth is lot more evident when comparing my 'best' comics of 2023 to 2024:

Sometimes the growth is vertical, sometimes it is horizontal - and damn, sometimes it goes out of sight into the Z-plane. But it is always happening!
