Season 5 Ep 11 - Journey cake
Claire is so excited about peanut butter. It’s meant to be cute and silly, but I GET IT. I feel that peanut butter has some power where you could choose not to eat it for months or years, but if it becomes suddenly unavailable to you, you just go crazy over it. I missed peanut butter like crazy when I lived in Japan and the only place you could get American style peanut butter was Japanese Costco and I would beg my coworker to buy 2lb jars of peanut better for me and I would eat it from a spoon every morning like a lunatic. Enough about me. While I’m reminiscing about peanut butter, the gang finds a burned cabin with lots of murder victims and one horribly burned girl who they must put out of her misery. 😬
Claire loses some Saran Wrap in the 1700s. Cant wait to discover the butterfly effect of that. Just kidding. That doesn’t exist in this show.
It’s bee time! The otter tooth man’s stone suddenly gets very hot and noisy for anyone from the future and little Jemmy. Conclusion: Jemmy can time travel but Jamie still can’t.
But.... Claire used to wear this stone like a necklace and it never burned her, so why now???
No time to work through this. Lots of riders are coming. The dudes we don’t like want more men to patrol for the cabin burning scourge. Jamie says no thanks, though it seems like something he should be interested in....
Hold the phone! Ian. has. some. questions! Thanks for holding on to these questions for several years! Is Claire a fairy, yes or no? Great question! Let’s go in this room to discuss. Wait, don’t close the door on us viewers, Jamie. I want to hear every dumb, insane and brilliant question that Ian’s brain can formulate about being a woman from the future. That is the entertainment I am here for! I would watch that for an entire 50 minutes.
Why must Ulysses live in the Murtagh-Jocasta sex stick palace? Why doesn’t Ulysses get freed for saving the life of his master? Somehow I think they allow that even if the deceased is white.
Oh snap! Ulysses was free this whole time
Roger and Brianna plan their exit strategy.
....Perhaps it’s worth planning a re-entry to 1970s strategy too? You’ve gotta assume property forfeiture, death certificates by now, no assets, perhaps even an unsolved mysteries episode. Roger, how are you going to explain this 3 year gap in your CV? You left your post at Oxford and did fuckall. Not a single publication.
John Grey! He sure loves to drop in.
Ian delights in his new status as secret keeper. He gets to talk about time travel by the river with the ladies now. What a dream! Ian wants to be a time traveler. Something about the lady shaped hole in his heart. The Fraser ladies tell him no. They have worked out some sort of theory about a genetic predisposition to time travel, which excludes Ian, based on really no evidence at all. Sorry, Ian!
John Grey must go back to England. He brings an updated portrait of William. He always brings really good gifts.
Claire has a special perfume she only puts on for sex. Perhaps an open second story window is not the best spot to perch for this sort of activity. The next morning, She makes Jamie look at his own sperm through a microscope. This confrontation with his own sperm inspires him evidently to tell Brianna about the other fruit of his loins-her half brother. They have a little heart to heart. He very sweetly hopes she will look him up in her history books.
Brianna makes her rounds saying her goodbyes. Lizzy is not taking it well. “I was with you in your darkest hour [glossing over when I had your husband beaten and sold into slavery] and your wedding” she cries.
Another sad story about bad man and abused wife.
Roger Mac gives Ian his land
Ulysses will pal around with John Grey until Ulysses decides to do something different. I like that for them. Though John extols that Brianna is impossible not to like, which is ehhh.... let’s leave it for now. John Grey has a love for all things Jamie and the rule is absolute.
They enjoy a family meal of pb&j
Bee time! Ian escorts Roger, Brianna, and Jemmy to the beehive stones of time travel. Ian is so sad to be left behind. My heart flutters a bit when they ask the small toddler to hold a near microscopic ruby in his baby sausage fingers and not to drop it. If you drop it you might be separated from mommy and daddy by 200 years! That is a lot of responsibility for someone with minimal dexterity. I would have put that ruby in the kid’s mitten.
Something goes wrong with the time travel. We don’t know what exactly, except it’s not the case that the magic stones are now housed in a Motel 6, which is what I expected. What do they think this part of New York looks like in the 20th Century? It’s got to be all built over.
Claire gets kidnapped by the bad men. Terrible. Claire is somewhat accustomed to this by now, but those bastards struck Marsali.

Day Three - Wedding
Joanna and Rog are getting married!
…………………………………………………………………………………..
How They Met
· The two meet when Rog is interested in getting Joanna to audition for her band. Rog is working as a cosmetologist and running a fashion boutique with best friend Melina. Jo does contracted electronics repairs, and makes a fairly good living doing so. Jo isn’t impressed with the band at first, but she does like the girls in the band, so she decides to give it a shot and make a hobby of it.
· She never imagined it’d become as big as it does, or that she’d fall in love along the way. (Rog, for her part, at least knew the former would happen.)
The Engagement
· Jo is the first to broach the subject of marriage. Rog thinks she’s joking at first, and makes the mistake of laughing. But when she realizes her girlfriend really does want this, she apologizes and takes it into consideration.
· It was never that Rog didn’t want to be with Jo for the rest of her life –she does. But she’s never been too fond of the institution of marriage (she doesn’t exactly have good examples to draw on), so it was never something she believed they needed.
· But Jo really wants it. And Rog is instinctively indifferent to the idea, and wants so much to make Jo happy in any way she can.
· And she loves to throw big parties.
· So she says ‘yes, let’s get married!’ And Jo is so happy she could cry (which she does).
· But then Rog feels a little bad that it wasn’t some Big Romantic Gesture, and starts to make a plan to really blow her girlfriend (fiancée?) away!
· Mel and Brianna are out doing “Love of My Life,” and as it draws to the end of the song Jo and Rog come back out into the shadows. All like normal so far. But then the lights come up toward the very end of the song, and Jo’s wondering like, ‘did they forget the cue or..?’
· And then Rog comes down from the riser with a little box in her hand, and Mel hands her the mic. Jo is staring at her in shock, and everyone in the crowd is confused but also super excited to see what’s going on!
· “I’ve never been one for subtlety, and a love this big deserves an equally big gesture.”
· And she drops to one knee with the biggest smile on her face and Jo’s covering her mouth in shock and the audience goes wild!! And Rog puts the ring on her fiancée’s finger and they hug tight.
· Mel grabs the mic back and teasingly begs them to get a room, and less than a minute later they’re back on track with the show, all happier than ever.
Date
· The wedding is scheduled for April 27th, giving the couple approximately nine months to plan their wedding between studio sessions and interviews and press releases. Rog is stressed out by the process but takes it in stride, only really losing her temper twice during the process. Jo actually finds it very relaxing! She likes organization and details and budgets.
Style
· They have a fairytale princess theme. (Not Disney, more ethereal and fantastical). Appropriate for two members of a band called King, but they both insist it’s a coincidence!
· It’s really a fairytale ending for them. Jo grew up in a very conservative household, and only very few in her family are open-minded enough that she even dares to invite them to the wedding. She never thought she’d be able to happily marry the woman of her dreams, but that day is coming, soon, and she’s so incredibly excited.
· The color scheme is white and pink with gold accents. Very light and regal.
Venue
· They get married at a castle, as any princesses should! The reception is held under a tent on the estate lawn.
Guest List
· The guests are mostly friends, new and old. They do have some family coming, too, but they’re both much happier sharing this day with friends that love and support them than family that doesn’t.
· In total the headcount comes to about 50 for the ceremony and 200 for the reception.
Wedding Party
· The wedding party consists only of their sisters, Melina, and Brianna. Melina is Rog’s maid of honor and Brianna is Jo’s, but Mel is by far most involved in the planning process with them.
Photography & Videography
· It’s very important to them that the wedding photos and videos capture their incredible joy and love for each other. They go for a photographer whose style is very light and airy, almost fairy-like.
· They make a list of all the important moments they want their photographer and videographer to capture. It’s a long list.
DJ & Band
· They have a DJ for the ceremony audio and most of the reception. But they’re in the music industry, and are friends with some big names in the industry, so they call in a few favors to have some great live entertainment.
· They’re very serious about only having love songs and fun songs play –no breakup, heartbreak, or other sad songs. Rog is firmly of the belief that those songs have no place at a wedding, “at least not a happy one.”
· Mel and Brianna go up on stage to sing “You’re My Best Friend.”
Flowers
· Lots of pink and white peonies, mixed with some dark greenery. Jo carries a bouquet; Rog wears a matching flower in her hair.
Dinner, Drinks, & Desserts
· They want to have a wide range of food options for all tastes and dietary needs, and they have enough space to have stations spread out around the dining area. Jo goes for steak and potatoes; Rog beelines for the hibachi grill.
· They splurge on booze, but neither of them plan to get very drunk that night. They want to be sure to remember it all.
· Rog has a sweet tooth, so dessert is very important. Instead of a big wedding cake, they opt for a diverse dessert table, just getting a cute little cake for the sake of cutting (they both really want to shove it in the other’s face.)
Dresses & Other Attire
· They try to match their dresses fairly well, even though they’re going for very different silhouettes –and not seeing each other in their dresses for their wedding days. It requires a lot of coordination between Mel and Brianna to figure out whether their choices will work well together without letting on to Rog or Jo what the other might be wearing. It’s an exhausting arrangement but well worth it.
· Thin and tall Jo decides on a column shape, letting the satin flow from her shoulders down to the floor. It’s very simple but she feels so pretty and elegant, and after trying out several other styles she’s quite certain this is the one for her. It takes some alterations, but by the big day it fits her perfectly and she cries when she sees herself.
· She wears simple white Mary-Jane shoes, and a silver chain choker.
· Rog, to fit the princess theme, goes for an A-line ball gown. It brings all the attention to her and she kind of loves that. It’s also satin with lace trim, and a layer of tulle over her large skirt. It’s one of the first dresses she tried on –Mel found it and knew she would absolutely love it, which she did. Even though she tries on other gowns, it she remains fairly sure she’ll go back to that one, which of course she does.
· Rog wears silver and shear T-strap heels, a diamond choker and matching bracelets.
· The rings are identical silver bands with shimmering opal insets, and “Always & Forever” inscribed on the insides.
Hair & Makeup
· Rog wears her hair in a half-updo. Jo wears hers down. Both of their makeup is elegant and just dramatic enough to show up on camera, Jo’s a bit more natural than Rog’s.
Gift Registry
· Because they don’t need anything, and have more than enough to buy anything they could want, they decide instead to ask guests to donate to one (or all) of their selected favorite charities in place of bringing a gift.
Bridesmaid Attire
· The bridesmaid dresses are rose gold silk. Of course, Mel picked them out. The styles are flat silhouettes but cut is up to the woman’s preferences.
Bachelorette Party
· They have a joint bachelorette party with their bridal party and a few other friends. They go to New York City for a long weekend and just have a crazy time together, shopping and bar-hopping and clubbing in all the best places in the city.
· They’re very glad they did this a week before the wedding, though, because everyone is so horribly hungover half the weekend.
Vows
· R: “I never wanted to get married, and then I met you. You’ve brought such joy and light to my life that I can’t imagine ever giving you up, and so –maybe it was selfish of me— but I knew early on I had to have you forever. You make me want to be the best version of myself just so I can pretend I deserve someone as kind and brave and clever as you. I will cherish you forever and ever. Thank you for wanting to be my wife. I love you.”
· J: “I’ve been dreaming of my wedding day since I was seven years old. It took almost ten more years to realize I didn’t want to marry a man, but another woman, and my fantasy was dashed to pieces. For many years I accepted that it would just never be true –that I would never get to celebrate my love with the woman of my dreams, and decided that maybe I could be happy without ever finding love like I dreamed of. But then I found the greatest love when I wasn’t looking, in a college dive bar. Fate was good to me that day, and I haven’t ever taken it for granted. You’re an incredible woman. You make me feel loved, you make me laugh, and you make me want to be the best that I can be. I’m rambling now because I love you more than words could ever say. So I’ll leave it at this: I love you, Rog. I will love you and care for you and stand by your side from now until the end of time, and am so blessed to receive your love in return.”
Honeymoon
· Rog surprises Jo on their wedding night with lacy white lingerie under her gown.
· They go to Fiji for their honeymoon and have an amazing time. They have the rest of their lives together, and things couldn’t be more perfect.

“Heartbeat” - Claire E.B.R. Fraser One Shot
There were three times in Claire’s life after she left Jamie to his destiny on Culloden Moor that she thought her heart might one day beat again. Three times that she felt like she had something to give and something to take if only to remind herself to live.
Claire’s heart had been ripped out of her chest the moment she passed through the stones, leaving Jamie behind in 1746. It nearly killed her when she realized just when and where she was. He was dead. And there was nothing Claire could do now or ever that would change that fact. She had made a promise to him — to return to Frank, her first husband and raise the child she was now carrying, with him.
It was a lie. Their child was raised in a lie. Frank had been extremely happy when she returned — in shock and disbelief that she had come back to him. But she hadn’t come back, at least not fully. Her heart was with Jamie back in 1746 on the battlefield of Culloden. The only thing that Frank ever had was the physical body of Claire — even then, she could not fully give that to him either.
Try her best to forget the past and move forward, every day was a day lived in agony without Jamie. After her return to Frank, they had stayed at the Reverend’s Manse for a few weeks while she recovered from the journey and they sorted everything out in Scotland. Claire couldn’t help but flinch every time Frank tried to touch her. She knew he was seeking comfort from his long lost wife and she hated herself that she wasn’t that woman anymore.
Once, she had loved Frank and dearly. Young and naive, she had married him when she was nineteen and had followed him wherever he led them. Then when they were parted for six years during the war (the majority of their marriage), Claire and Frank naturally grew distant. That’s what led them to Scotland in the first place — a second honeymoon. Only Claire would wander upon standing stones that called out to her and when she touched them, her life would never be the same.
She had explained to Frank time and time again that she was in love with another man and that he was existed in another century. Thinking her insane, Frank struggled to accept her truth. Only when she told him she was pregnant did he come around and choose to believe whatever story she wanted to tell him. Frank wanted a child, no matter the father. Except he made Claire promise to raise the child to believe that he was their father and not Jamie — a tall, red headed warrior from the 18th century.
Agreeing to this, Claire and Frank moved to Boston where he accepted a job as a professor at Harvard. It hadn’t always been easy and at times, Claire felt extremely lonely. Her marriage with Frank was that of convenience and obligation, but not of love — not as it had been and not as it ever had been with Jamie Fraser.
There were three times in Claire’s life after she left Jamie to his destiny on Culloden Moor that she thought her heart might one day beat again. Three times that she felt like she had something to give and something to take if only to remind herself to live.
Frank and Claire tried in the beginning. But no amount of trying on either end would save their marriage. A couple of years after Brianna was born (with flaming red hair), they decided to no longer share one bed. Several times Claire had come to Frank, feeling desperate, aching with desire, but when she made love to him, it wasn’t Frank who she was thinking of. It was always Jamie and with her eyes closed, she could pretend it really was him. Frank was a prideful man, and smart as well — catching on to the fact that she couldn’t and wouldn’t fully be able to give herself to him.
So they continued to raise Brianna as best they could while also managing to live their own separate personal lives. It was when Brianna was seven and brought home her friend Jessica Nelson to play that Claire found out her heart could beat — even just a little.
When Claire and Frank first moved to Boston, they knew no one. But Claire found a quick friend with Millie Nelson and over the next several years; her and her husband Jerry were invited over for many dinners. Claire didn’t have many friends save Millie and Joe Abernathy who was working to become a doctor just like Claire.
Millie wasn’t as daft as she seemed, she knew something wasn’t quite right between Claire and Frank and had asked her as much one day when Millie brought over her daughter Jessica.
“Is everything alright between you and Frank?” Millie took the martini from Claire’s out stretched hand and took a seat on the couch in Claire’s living room.
“Everything’s as fine as it’ll ever be,” Claire smiled, pouring her own drink before joining Millie on the couch. “Why do you ask?”
“I notice these things,” her friend touched her knee lightly. “I only ask now because I can tell you two aren’t the perfect couple you try so hard to show.” Claire started to object, but Millie raised her hand. “It’s also because I see mine and Jerry’s relationship reflected in yours.”
“You two are having problems?”
“Have been for years,” Millie said over the top of her glass. “I found him cheating on me with his secretary, some blonde bimbo. I wanted him out of the house, but he promised to work on our relationship,” Millie rolled her eyes.
Claire was hesitant to reveal too much of what it had actually been like between her and Frank. The arrangement they had come to agree upon worked for them. It was far from ideal, but their circumstances were also extremely rare.
“Frank and I —“ Claire began, shamefully looking down at her lap. “Well we’ve both seen other people. I haven’t in quite some time, but the fact of the matter is that I was married to Frank when it happened.”
“An affair? Oh how juicy!” Millie nodded, urging for Claire to go on.
“Don’t you think I’m a horrible person? You just called your husband’s mistress a blonde bimbo,” Claire smirked.
“When it’s not my life, it’s fascinating,” Millie remarked, biting the olive from the toothpick. “So you slept with another man and Frank cheated as well?”
It hurt to hear the reality out loud, but it was also a relief in some ways to be able to talk about it with someone. “Yes, it was many years ago and just the one man. Frank and I have agreed to have sort of an open relationship.”
“That’s progressive,” Millie’s eyes shot up. “I’m sure Jerry would love that! He’d probably even suggest we invite his secretary to join us in bed.”
Claire finished her drink, tossing her head back and wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. She set down the glass on the coffee table in front of her. “You and Jerry are still together though, so did you work it out?”
“Oh we’re trying, been seeing a counselor for weeks now, but I don’t see it working,” Millie scoffed and set her glass down next to Claire’s. “It’s not like I wanna get divorced, but every time I look at him I see… her, writhing underneath him, Christ it makes my skin boil!”
“We don’t have to talk about it,” Claire said, reaching out to lay her hand over Millie’s. “Let’s talk about something a bit lighter shall we?”
While their girls played upstairs in Brianna’s room, Claire and Millie discussed everything from new recipes to the latest flick in the cinema. Even though it was late afternoon, they both had another round of martinis and relaxed without the presence of screaming children nearby.
Claire had just finished telling Millie about Brianna losing another one of her teeth, it had fallen out when she was trying to eat an apple and gotten stuck. Blood had poured out of Bree’s mouth and soaked the front of her dress. It was a front tooth, but Bree was so excited she had run around the house, holding up her tooth and screaming about the tooth fairy.
“Jessica lost all her baby teeth,” Millie smiled. “Keeps asking when’s the next time money will appear under her pillow!”
“Yes, well Brianna only has a few left now.”
Glancing up at the clock, Claire realized that Frank would be home in about an hour from work. She really should start preparing dinner, but her woozy head and the company of Millie was keeping her parked on the couch.
“Can I ask you something Claire?”
“Of course, I’m an open book,” Claire smiled. Well, she was open about everything except a particular red headed scot, but she was quite certain Millie wouldn’t be asking about that.
“Have you ever—“ her friends cheeks blushed and she shook her head. “Nah, it’s silly.”
“Wot is it, Millie?” Claire laughed, nudging her leg.
“This may come off sounding strange, but I just wondered if you’ve ever kissed another woman,” she rushed it all out, letting out a deep breath in the process. In fact, Claire had never kissed another woman. She knew of girls that did during the war, mostly from loneliness, but Claire had experimented like that herself. It wasn’t exactly talked about either, at least not in public.
“I haven’t,” Claire shook her head. “Have you?”
“Oh God no!” Millie’s hand flew over her heart.
“Why do you ask?” Claire smirked.
“I was just curious what it would be like is all, I thought maybe you had since you certainly aren’t getting any from Frank,” Millie blushed. “Forget I asked,” she waved her hand away.
As she sat there, looking at Millie, she noticed how pink her lips were. How soft her skin looked and how beautiful her friend really was. Claire had never harbored any feelings towards other women and she didn’t think she would suddenly start now, but something compelled her to lean in closer and so she did.
“What are you doing, Claire?” Millie asked as Claire scooted closer towards her. Claire laid her hand on top of her shoulder, her other hand coming up to cup her cheek.
“You said you wanted to know what it was like…” she waited, looking into her friend’s blue eyes, looking for a sign.
“I did,” Millie gulped audibly.
Claire’s heart was racing and it was all she could hear as she closed the small space between her and the other woman. It was odd at first, mostly because she hadn’t actually kissed anyone in a long time, but soon her lips found the way of it again.
Millie was stiff at first, simply sitting there and letting Claire move against her. Sliding her hand down over her arm, Claire squeezed Millie’s hand and then parted her lips, urging her to give in. To give in to whatever was happening between them and forget everything that said it wasn’t right. The feeling of her lips on Claire’s felt right. Even if it was just this one moment that they shared, Claire felt something stir up inside her that she thought long dead. It was that feeling of being wanted. Not that Frank hadn’t wanted her, but Claire was only reminded of what she couldn’t have (Jamie) every time she looked at him.
Soft moans came from both of the women as they relaxed and began to kiss each other. Claire took charge, brushing her fingers back through Millie’s hair. She parted her lips, pressing her tongue against Millie’s and sucked lightly. Shifting slightly on the couch, Claire pressed herself flush against her friend, feeling the softness of her breasts on her own. She knew how irresponsible this was — Bree and Jessica were just upstairs. But she needed this, she needed to know that she was capable of feeling once again.
Millie was breathing hard, her own hands resting lightly on Claire’s back. The women broke apart and looked into each other’s eyes and then started laughing. Claire leaned her forehead against Millie’s and sighed before moving back on the couch.
Wiping at her lips, Claire met Millie’s eyes, her cheeks blushing. “So?”
“If you kiss like that with Frank, I don’t know how he ever let you get away from his bed,” Millie laughed, wiping at her own lips. “I — well I liked it.”
“I did too,” Claire nodded in agreement. “I feel a little bit reckless, don’t you?”
They both laughed again, feeling a pump of adrenaline for doing something they shouldn’t have. It’s not like Frank would care and it’s not like she was ever going to tell him for that matter. A few moment later, before both women could talk about the kiss in more detail, Bree and Jessica came running down the stairs in search of snacks.
“You can have an apple, but nothing more darling. Daddy will be home soon and I need to start dinner.”
Millie rose from the couch then, followed by Claire. “I guess we better get out of your hair then, leave you to your dinner.”
“You’re welcome to stay if you’d like!”
“That’s a kind offer, but I know Jerry’s expecting his roast beef tonight,” Millie smiled and Claire couldn’t help but feel sorry for her. It was 1955 and divorce while not unheard of, it was still not common for a woman to leave her husband. Claire only hoped her friend would be able to work things out between her and her husband.
“Another time then,” Claire smiled and hugged her friend goodbye. “Say ‘thank you’ to Jessica’s mum for letting her come over and play, Bree.”
“Thank you Mrs. Nelson,” Bree smiled politely, waving as Jessica and Millie left.
Frank came home twenty minutes later, oblivious to the way Claire jumped out of her skin at the slam of the front door. They ate dinner together as a family, and Claire was mostly silent, letting Bree tell Frank all about her day.
That night as she feel asleep to the soft snoring of her husband, she pressed her fingers against her lips, desperately trying to recall the feeling of Millie’s lips on hers. For the first time in years, Claire didn’t feel merely like a shell of a human being, but that she had hope that one day she might find love again that really made her heart beat in her chest.
The second time Claire felt a flutter in her heart didn’t happen until many years later. Frank had been seeing a woman named Sandy for years now — all in private of course. Claire found out about her on the day of her graduation from medical school. She knew Frank was discreet, but it was still odd to come face to face with her. But Claire couldn’t hold it over his head because she knew she gave no real effort to their marriage and they had agreed on this — to live together for the sake of Bree, but separately for the sake of their hearts.
His name was Robert Lewis — a fellow doctor that had been flirting with Claire on and off for years. He knew she was married, he saw the ring on her left hand — had even commented on her wearing two bands on either hand. She hadn’t told him about the silver band she wore on her right… that was just for her.
Robert was persistent and he had Claire figured out. At least he thought he did. It was obvious to anyone who looked even a little bit that Frank and Claire didn’t live the perfect marriage. Perhaps that’s why Robert kept pushing her to go out on a date with him. Bree was in her senior year of high school and in the summer she was going on a tour of colleges with Frank. Claire needed to stay behind and tend to her patients and besides, she knew Bree didn’t really want her to go with them.
Claire spent more time at the hospital than she did with Bree and while she often regretted it, she would never regret the lives that she had saved. Medicine was a part of her, something she had always known was in her blood. That was something she had in common with Robert and so one day when he asked her yet again to have a drink with him, she agreed. But she told him to wait a month, because Bree and Frank would be gone. Claire didn’t want to risk her daughter finding out about her mother going on a date with another man. She knew Brianna wasn’t oblivious to the shouting and fighting that went on between her and Frank, but that didn’t mean she needed to learn about the way her parents lived their lives. One day, but that day wasn’t now.
The next month passed quickly and Claire had worked herself up to a nervous wreck. It was her friend, Joe Abernathy that had convinced her to not cancel on Robert.
“Lady J, you have a date tonight with the hottest doctor in this whole damn hospital,” he laughed. “Screw Frank, well… don’t screw Frank, but you get what I mean.”
“Frank doesn’t give a rat’s arse what I do,” Claire sighed, crossing her arms. “It’s just one date anyways. I mostly just said yes so he would stop asking me.”
“Where are you going?”
“A bar downtown,” Claire said as she wrapped her scarf around her neck. She was heading out from work with Robert any minute now. “It’s not like anyone will recognize me, I never leave this place!”
“Have fun, LJ and relax. It’s just drinks and a nice night,” Joe smiled and gave her a pat on the back. “You’re a stunning woman and you might even get lucky tonight.”
“Joe!” Claire swatted at his arm, laughing as she turned to leave their shared office.
As it happened, the night with Robert had been rather successful. They talked about their patients and why they had wanted to study medicine. And as the night moved on, they opened up and he asked her why she had agreed to come on the date with him.
“You want me to be honest?”
“No, I want you to lie,” Robert laughed, taking a sip of his whisky. “Tell me the truth, if you want.”
“Well mostly I agreed because I wanted you to stop asking me,” Claire blushed. “But also I think you’re a nice man and you’ve always been kind to me.”
“I like you, Claire Randall,” Robert lifted his glass to hers. “It’s been my honor to share this evening with you.”
Drinks in a dimly lit bar wasn’t the only thing they shared that night. With no one at home, Claire had invited him inside. She felt reckless, tipsy and a bit aroused at the thought of having sex with him.
Why did doing bad things have to feel so damn good!?
They hadn’t made it far, only to the living room where Robert had unclasped her garters and pulled her dress up around her waist. He was handsy and only a little bit taller than her. But he tasted like whisky and his kisses burned along her neck and chest. As they stumbled to the ground and Robert reached into his pocket for a condom, Claire almost stopped it there. Once he slid it down on his cock, he leaned forward and Claire moaned, shutting her eyes tight at the sensation she hadn’t felt in more than a decade.
She wrapped one leg around his waist, angling her hips as he thrust deep into her. Something she’d locked up inside of her was let loose and she kissed his jaw, biting slightly, eliciting moans from him. Her hands wandered along his back, tugging on his shirt, pushing him into her.
He had been gentle, but also drunk. With four hard thrusts, Claire came with a cry and Robert followed soon after, holding his body weight above her on his arms. He offered to stay the night, and she considered it, but that was all she could handle for one night.
“Thank you, Robert,” Claire kissed his cheek at the door. “I had a good time.”
“It was my pleasure, Claire,” he kissed her hand and then they parted ways.
Nothing ever came out of that one date. A few months later, Robert had met a woman at a grocery store and by the time Christmas rolled around, they were engaged to be married. Claire was determined that love wasn’t in the cards for her. She had had one great love in her life. One man that she loved with all of her heart, all of her soul and she knew she would never find that again.
Claire had managed to keep the ghost of Jamie at bay most nights and days. But a couple years later, after another fight when Frank asked her if she would ever truly move on from Jamie, he had gotten in a car accident and died. She had wept, running to his lifeless body after Frank told her the news. She was already at the hospital and ended up sitting with him for nearly an hour before his body was taken down to the morgue.
“I did love you,” she had whispered and kissed him goodbye one last time.
The third time Claire’s heart started to beat on its own was when after months of searching and with the help of the Reverend’s adopted son and her daughter — they found out Jamie was alive.
At least, he was still alive back in the 18th century. He hadn’t died on Culloden Moor, he had made it out alive and was a printer in Edinburgh. Roger Wakefield had found an old clipping of a pamphlet printed by a man named Alexander Malcolm — two of Jamie’s middle names.
It hadn’t been an easy journey. Brianna was furious with her when she told her the truth that she had kept for twenty long years. Jamie Fraser was her father and not only did she belong to another man, but that man was an 18th century highlander. This revelation had nearly broken Claire and Bree apart, but when the three of them witnessed Gillian Edgars (Who Claire had known as Geillis Duncan) on top of Craig Na Dun disappear into thin air — that’s when Bree believed her.
It took seeing it with her own eyes, for Bree to really believe Claire had been telling the truth. After that, they had spent months looking for signs of Jamie and when they found that clipping, proving that Jamie was alive, Bree had told her mother that she had to go back and find him.
“Bree, have you thought this through? If I go, I may never be able to come back. It’s not like an elevator where you can just jump on and off.”
“You’ve done it before,” Bree squeezed her mother’s hand.
“But there are no guarantees. It’s… possible we may never see each other again, can you live with that?” Claire felt her heart tighten at the thought of leaving her daughter behind. “Cause I don’t know if I can. To not be there, to see you get married, walk you down the aisle. Or to watch you become a mother, hold my first grandchild…”
“I know,” Bree looked down at their joined hands. “It won’t be easy. But I have been trying to figure out if I was more Randall or Fraser and what I realized is that Im more you than I am either of my father’s and if I can turn out to be half the woman you are, then I’ll be fine.”
Claire lifted her hand, brushing back her daughter’s red hair, “But I’m the one who knows you better than anyone,” Claire sighed, tears filling her eyes.
“You know who doesn’t know me?” Bree said, “Jamie. You owe it to him to go back and I want you go and tell him everything.”
Claire was quiet as she looked at her daughter and then briefly down.
“There’s something else, isn’t there?”
“What if he’s forgotten me or what if he doesn’t love me anymore?” There was still a chance that it wasn’t Jamie that was this Alexander Malcolm or that he had in fact moved on with his life. It’d been nearly twenty years since that day on Craig Na Dun.
“You told me what you felt for Jamie was the most powerful thing you ever felt in your life, has that changed?”
“No,” Claire said quickly.
“Then you have to trust it’s the same for him. You gave Jamie up for me, now I have to give him back to you.” Claire hugged her daughter, holding her close and trying to memorize everything about her.
It was just a few days after Christmas that Claire left. She left her daughter behind with Roger Wakefield, hoping that she would be able to find her own happiness. She left her old life behind and focused on finding Jamie.
With every step she took towards the print shop on Carfax Close, her heart began to beat louder and louder until she could only hear the drumming of her pulse in her ears.
A bell chimed as she opened the door.
A few more steps.
A voice.
“Is that you Geordie? Took ye long enough.”
More steps. Louder heartbeat.
“Where’d ye go to get the ash? To Glasgow?”
A pause.
“It isn’t Geordie, it’s me… Claire.”
He turned around slowly, her highlander and when his eyes met hers for the first time in twenty years, Claire’s heart came back to life and she knew everything would be alright.

You tried to ignore your toothache, only smiling at your sister, Mal, and your other friends. You tried to forget about it, assuming the problem would go away soon. However, that didn’t seem to be the case.
You felt someone touch your arm and turned to see Evie smiling at you: “Are you okay, (YOUR NAME)?”
You nodded, “I’m fine. Listen, I’ve gotta go. I’ll see you all later.”
You hugged Mal and waved to the others. Evie raised her eyebrows, watching you leave.
“Can you get me in tomorrow afternoon?” you asked, and then you listened to the receptionist of Auradon’s dentist office.
You looked up when you heard someone open your dorm room door. Evie came into the room and she smiled at you. You waved back. She sat down on the edge of your bed, waiting for you to finish your phone call.
“Okay,” you spoke into your phone, “that’s fine. Thank you.”
You finished the phone call and looked at your blue-haired friend... and crush: “What’s up, E?”
Evie shrugged. You took a moment to admire her. She had changed so much since you and the others left the Isle of the Lost. You all had come so far. However, Evie seemed to be the happiest out of you all.
“(YOUR NAME)?” asked Evie.
“Yeah, what’s up?” you asked, snapping out of your thoughts.
“Do you want me to go with you?” she asked, though she had paused for a brief moment.
You smiled, but you were rather confused: “‘Go with me’ where exactly?”
“To the dentist?” she questioned. “It’s pretty obvious you’ve got a toothache. You’ve had it for a few days now.”
You smirked, “What are you? A tooth fairy?”
“No, but I know you don’t like the dentist... and I just thought that you’d like for someone to go with you,” replied Evie.
You nodded, Okay. So, should we consider this a date or...”
A grin spread across Evie’s face as you trailed off, but she simply left the room. Despite this, you could tell what she thinking. Harry Hook was passing by when you moved into the corridor.
“Ah! (YOUR NAME), you’re just the person I was looking for,” he greeted. “I was wondering if you’d like to go out sometime?”
You closed your door, and shook your head in response, “Harry, you’re sweet and all, but let’s just say... I’m not going to be available for a long time.”
Harry stared after you as you ran to catch up with Evie. You joined the blue-haired girl and instantly began talking about your future date. That conversation also included all your dates to come.

NAME :// BARTER UTONIUM ORIGIN :// POWERPUFF GIRLS AGE :// TWENTY-TWO JOB :// SECURITY GUARD FC :// BRIANNA HILDEBRAND
Got a mouth full of gasoline Don't you bring your mind in me Well I gave you all I got to give I know that ain't no way to live
BIOGRAPHY ://
Growing up, Barter had always admittedly felt shadowed by her siblings, more so by Blossom. Blossom had always been perfect. Smart, calm, practical, and gorgeous, she was instantly popular and fell into the roll of the ‘leader’. Bonnabell was so sweet and loving, their cute charm radiating perfect. Then there was Barter; too aggressive, too negative, too much. They grossed out the other girls in their year and Barter found that they could only really deal with guys for friends, and even then most of them weren’t all that accepting of a girl as violent as her. After getting into countless fights with them and winning them all, it was hard to even make friends with them in the end. There were a couple who stuck, but in the end she’d always have to hang out with her ‘perfect’ siblings and feel.. less than perfect in every way.
Barter took out a lot of her frustration on her sisters. She’d tease and bully Bonnabell, only realising that she’d taken it too far when they were reduced to tears. Blossom didn’t upset so easily, and their bossy behaviour always butted heads with Barter’s aggression and jealousy. When the three worked together they were the perfect team. Blossom’s knowledge, Bonnabell’s compassion, and Barter’s confidence. But whenever an inevitable fight started, more often than not started by Barter, it always ended in tears. Making her siblings cry makes Barter feel worse. As jealous as she may get, her family was the most important thing to her. Sometimes she forgets that people aren’t as durable as her, both in a physical or verbal fight. As the self-proclaimed ‘fighter’ of the family, Barter has made it her duty to protect her sisters. It doesn’t help that a lot of the pain inflicted on them come from her though.
Bart keeps a very strong front around people. With the exception of her family in her child years, no one has seen her cry. She’s not all that sure that she can anymore. She’s not one for being sentimental or expressing emotions other than rage or excitement. Barter lives for the adrenaline, to live life at its fullest without any of that ‘stopping to smell the flowers’ shit. She just wants to live fast and hard. There are domestic things that she’s capable of, though no one outside of her family knows it. Growing up with a single father with four children, she had to take up her fair share of housework. She’s an amazing cook, though she only ever cooks for them. After moving out on her own, her diet has changed to nightly take-out and fast food. Just because she can take care of herself doesn’t mean she will. She also quite likes gardening, hiding away a few plants (mostly cacti and flytraps) in her room where no one can see. They’re about the only things in her house that are taken care of.
Living on her own away from her sisters is.. a learning process. As overshadowed as she felt growing up with them, they were her everything. They were a team. She grew up in a house of five and now she’s living on her lonesome. It’s why she hosts so many parties. It doesn’t feel right being at home alone all the time. Even when there’s no party, the music never really does stop blaring.
Work is great. No one gives her hassle over being too violent anymore. She gets praise and, better yet, money. Ever since she was a child she always did have an unhealthy obsession with money, even to the point of trying to knock other kids’ teeth out for ‘tooth fairy money’. It’s violent and it pays. And, of course, she’s doing her part for the community. Keeping the peace, so to speak. Being the hero and saving the people, now that’s a pretty nice gig if you ask her.
AESTHETIC ://
Whips. Animals free to live their own lives. Forrests standing tall after hundreds of years. Oxygen. Trying hard enough to know that you’ll succeed. Success. Cigarettes butts and full ashtrays. Power lines against the night sky. Deep underbrush that you could lose yourself in. Snakes. Wolves and monsters under your bed. The thought of being alone without being able to. She forges through.
MISC ://
Barter has always been hot tempered and easy to get into a fight. She keeps herself at peak physical form just in case anyone decides that they have a bone to pick with her. The thought of getting into a fight is almost exciting, which is more than likely why she enjoys her job so much. She would never word it like this to her superiors or even anyone that matters, but it's almost like she's getting paid to fight. Sure, it's more to hold the peace, but it's almost getting paid to fight.
Middle child syndrome is strong in this one, Barter knowing that she can get away with almost anything if she tries hard enough.
Being a security guard is a good job. It's something that makes her father proud and her siblings prouder, something that will always be a part of her background and who she is. She can't remember a day when she didn't want to do this with her life because even as a child she wanted to protect people. This is just the right place for her to have ended up.
Pessimistic at best, Barter has been known to be quite a buzzkill at times. With that being said, she does know how to host a mean party in her studio flat.
Takes her fashion sense very literally, only owning black grey and green clothes.
CONNECTION ://
Blossom and Bonnabell Utonium : Her sisters and the girls that will always have Barter’s trust and support.
Preston Utonium : Her father. Good strong relationship.
Joseph Utonium : Adoptive brother.
