So I've been rewatching the Twilight movies and certain scenes from them recently, and there's something that caught my eye while going through the post-battle scene in Eclipse.
We have Jane and the others show up, being like "blah blah blah, you guys did pretty well against all these newborns, how curious, blah blah" before Jane notices that one of the newborns is still alive, pointing out Bree.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, here's where it gets interesting for me. Because Jasper immediately moves and stands next to her protectively.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And yeah, sure, he's the newborn expert, he's in charge of all-things newborn vampires, so in that sense alone it makes sense for him to associate himself with her in that way, but I think it's a lot more than that; namely something that is always mentioned in passing in the movies, but never really pointed out as something significant (unlike Edward's telepathy and Alice's precognition, which are always mentioned first in terms of desirable acquisitions of power). I of course speak of his pathokinesis.
Bree is scared. At this point she has realized that she's a vampire and what that means for her life, but she has no idea if she will come out of this stand-off alive, so naturally, she is nervous.
And thanks to his pathokinesis, of course Jasper can feel that. So I think he's standing with her, almost protectively, not just because he's in charge of her, but because he can feel her fear and tries to comfort her with his presence (she with her vampire sight can of course see that his skin is decked out in scars, so that intimidating display alone probably tells her him being on her side is a good thing).
And then we come to Jane starting to torture Bree, and me having another observation.
Tumblr media
When she falls to the ground and is screaming in agony, we can assume that Jasper can feel that, too (not the pain itself, but the mental anguish connected to it). And look how startled he seems when he sees her fall and looks from Bree to Jane.
Tumblr media
This moment here makes me think that this is probably the first time he's ever seen Jane's power in person. Of course he knew about her, knew what her powers are. Alice probably filled him in in detail about the events in Volterra from New Moon, and I assume Carlisle has shared many stories over the years, too.
But hearing about something and actually seeing it first-hand are two very different things.
For someone like him, who can feel what other people are feeling, from their happiest moments to their most devastating mental pain, watching Jane not only use her powers, but relish in their effect without a second thought since she can't feel the pain she's causing, must be absolutely nauseating, for lack of a better word.
Jasper's experienced several lifetimes of anguish by proximity and is trying his best to make others feel better, while Jane deals blow after blow with her powers without any consequence. It must feel wrong and unfair to him.
Anyway, back to the point.
Tumblr media
This is the face of a man who has fully realized what the antagonistic force is capable of, and he'll be sure to be prepared, next time they cross paths.
And lastly, something sad.
Tumblr media
He turns his back on Bree, probably because he can't deal with watching her die on top of feeling her fear and pain. Neither he nor the other Cullens can stop Bree's death from happening without declaring war on the Volturi in the process (because I'm certain that's how Jane and the others would see their push-back).
So all he can do is turn away, and maybe make an effort to lessen her pain (it doesn't look like he did, but I think it would make sense if he used his powers to make death less frightening for Bree).
Anyway, rest in peace, Bree, you would have made a wonderful addition to the Cullen family. ♥

I'm currently writing a fanfiction about a parentified!Bella Swan (All Renee slander accepted here) coming to Forks and finding comfort and safety in a found-family Cullens. Is there any scenarios you can think of where any member of the Cullens take care of Bella? I'd love to include some scenarios cooked up from you guys! Here's a couple that will be included already in the fiction, by me:
-Charlie bringing Bella dinner while she's in her room, caring to make it the way that she likes it.
-Expanding more on the hospital scene with Carlisle when the car crash happens with him acting almost fatherly towards her even when she suspects he's in on it. -The Cullens opting to be quiet during the night when Bella stays over because they care about her sleep.
-Emmett giving her a ride to school when her truck breaks down, offering to give it a look when as well.
What do you guys think? I'd be happy to credit you for any ideas once it comes out :)

who is your dream cast for Bree? I know she’s a very minor character but still curious :)
That's the thing, she's such a minor character (and I wasn't exactly a fan of the merging of Short Life and Eclipse into the same movie, as it felt like movie spaghetti on a movie wall that didn't mesh well into a cohesive film) that I don't need a dream cast for her.
What I don't want is someone too attractive/noticeable. Bree is supposed to be an ordinary girl who ended up in this bananas situation/turned into a vampire. I would want to evoke that "normal girl" persona when thinking of Bree.
That means no Anya Taylor-Joy.
Zendaya has closer vibes in that she's good at playing a cute but normal high school teen, but she's too recognizable now and I just don't see her for the only scene that counts. And she's too famous.
I honestly can't think of someone off the top of my head, but it would have to be someone pretty enough but not movie-star pretty (helped by makeup and, in theory, by being made to be whatever the movie is showing vampires as today) but also deliver the raw emotional energy of this girl being betrayed and burned alive by the Volturi.
Because that's the scene where Bree is vitally important and what should leave the most impact in the film.
Whoever Bree is, that's what she has to pull off.

Bree Tanner deserved better, and not just from a narrative standpoint (although I think it would have been interesting to see how the story changed if she’d remained alive), but in regards to Bella. Bree gets only a handful of paragraphs in Eclipse, but we see Bella describe and empathize with her, even noting that the girl looked young, perhaps only fifteen. And then Bree is dismembered by Felix, and she’s never mentioned again.
Tumblr media
Imagine if Bella had hung onto that little girl, felt remorse and sympathy for her. Bree was, after all, turned and then subsequently killed because of Bella. All of the newborns were. But we don’t hear anything about them, only how they were violent monsters. They were all human once, but the narrative ignores this. Bree was an actual child. If it wasn’t for Bella, and by extension, the Cullens, Bree would have lived a normal life in Seattle.
Bella should have thought about all of this. It should have been in the back of her mind: guilt and sadness and maybe a little self-loathing too. And the continued fear that maybe when she went through the change, she would be that uncontrollable, bloodthirsty creature too.
Tumblr media
But of course, Stephanie Meyer chose to ignore Bella’s trauma per usual, and so we never hear of Bree again; instead we get sappy romance and a vampire-hybrid baby, Bella’s trauma forgotten and never truly addressed. But that’s nothing new here.
Anyway, Bree Tanner deserved better.

🌟 Dive Into the Ultimate Twilight Saga Adventure – Now with Extra Sparkle! 🌟
Hey Twihards and Ratties! 🦇 Grab your favorite mug of hot coffee ☕, that nice cold iced coffee 🧊, or even a glass of wine 🍷 (if you're of age) because I've got the ultimate guide to binge-reading the Twilight Saga like never before. We're talking full immersion here, mixing Bella’s and Edward’s stories together for double the drama and double the romance!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Twilight & Midnight Sun Duo: Kick things off with *Twilight's Preface*, then switch it up by reading chapters from both *Twilight* 🍎 and *Midnight Sun* ☀️. It's like watching two sides of the same coin—Bella’s human touch versus Edward’s brooding vamp vibes. Trust me, it’s a game-changer!
Tumblr media
Eclipse & Bree Tanner Special: Just when things heat up in *Eclipse* 🌒, hit pause after Chapter 17 and switch to *The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner* ⌛. It’s a short trip into the life of a newborn vamp that’ll give you all the feels and some behind-the-scenes action before jumping back into the main event. If I made a mistake with this tandem reading spot, or if you know a better place to weave Bree's story in, please let me know—I couldn't find a definitive tandem reading list for these!
Tumblr media
Future Possibilities: Even though *New Moon* 🌕 and *Breaking Dawn* ♟️ don't currently have companion books to weave through, I've included them because who knows what the future holds? Maybe Stephenie Meyer will surprise us with more deep dives into these parts of the saga!
Tumblr media
Extra Sparkles: I didn't forget about "Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined" or "The Official Illustrated Guide". I intentionally left them out because "Life and Death" offers an alternate timeline, and the Guide is more of a reference tool than a part of the main saga's story. 🚫📕
Tumblr media
What’s the Best Book?: Whether you’re reading the saga for the first time or revisiting it, which book captured your heart the most? Share your top pick after this epic journey! 💖📚
A Note from Me: I worked hard to give the fans this guide, and I'll update it if Stephenie releases more. She did say she has two more books in the works, so stay tuned! 📚✨
So, are you ready to revisit Forks? Because the Cullens are waiting, and this reading journey is going to be epic! 🌲🌙

I will forever be pissed jacob imprinted on the baby, it would be such a better story if he imprited on someone like bree tanner & if the cullens took her in he would still be close to bella just without all the weird shit, and we could get more of jacobs story of him hating vampires and now imprinting on one, and she is not!!!!! a baby!!!!!!
HOLD ON JACOB / BREE IS SOME SERIOUS TEA... I haven't actually read the short second life of bree tanner (I did read like 15 pages after seeing this ask but I just can't be bothered tbh), but from what I gather it seems like she's witty enough & has kind of dry humour, bookish, sweet, a little nihilistic, not a baby... I can really see the vision here.
I agree that Jacob hating vampires and then having to grapple with imprinting on one has the potential to be SUCH a compelling arc, and the way it's handled in the book is obviously an all-time massive flop. if imprinting was a profound soulmate connection without all the weird shit about instantly losing your free will, it'd be so interesting to see the internal struggle involved in that. with a full person who he is actually interested in & experiences attraction to as opposed to a toddler he's effectively grooming.
& I can just see the vibes! They're both 16 year olds who were turned into monsters just to serve in a war they don't want to participate in, neither of them like being inhuman but are slowly growing into it.
anon you may be a little bit of a genius for this I can't lie

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner Book Review
Tumblr media
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner
Author: Stephanie Meyer
Description: I turned off my brain. Who you were going to hunt was the kind of decision you had to make before you scented your prey. It was too late now to choose anything.
Rating: ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆
Review: Stephanie Meyer’s short novella The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner was a breath of fresh air in an embittered world. Its pacing starts off slow and it doesn’t really pick up until halfway through, though the sluggish start may be forgiven by its emotional ending.
The novella gives depth to an undeserving book, almost unfairly inducing attachment to characters that will never return. It’s the perfect length for what it is and it doesn’t stray from its purpose.
The title says it all.
