Douma x reader miniseries

Intro

Ever since before you were born, your family had been loyal followers to the Eternal Paradise cult. You knew your father hadn’t liked that idea and stopped communicating with everyone in the family except you. And after you were born, you were expected to follow it as well. You didn’t complain at first.

But one day while you were going to the temple yourself you had accidentally walked in on the leader eating a human.

Obviously you terrified but your instincts took over and you immediately grabbed the nearest object that could do damage. Which was a random wooden stick. You defensively raised it to protect yourself if he tried to do anything to you.

“What did you do?” you demanded, your voice seething with anger.

“Now, now Y/N-chan,” he says, his voice not once wavering, “Lower the stick.”

His voice darkened as he said those last three words. It was clear who had the upper hand.

You wanted to give in. But the stick felt glued to your hands. It was a lose-lose situation. But you didn’t back down.

“Hand it to me,” his voice sends a chill down your spine.

The atmosphere becomes cold.

He reaches his hand out, gesturing for you to give it to him.

Without a second thought you lunge towards him. You raise the wooden stick and try to hit the side of his head. You were quite skilled at close combat as your father had been a former demon slayer and trained you from time to time.

But he grabs the stick midair and stops you from doing anything else. You reluctantly let go of the stick as your head clears. What a stupid thing to do. Now you were going to get killed and eaten by your psychotic cult leader.

You back away as he steps closer to you with a smile that told you that he was pure evil.

“Backing away now?” he asks, though it didn’t sound like much of a question, “I was honestly quite impressed with your defiance.”

Your body tenses as he speaks.

“I have an offer for you,” he says menacingly.

You feel the chill of his bloodlust. It terrified you.

“What is it?” you question him.

He chuckles softly, a sweet yet scary sound.

“Aren’t you a curious one,” he ignored your question, “How about this? You train under me for a few years and in return you and your family gets spares from getting eaten.”

“What’s in it for you that you are making this deal?” you ask, suspicious of the offer, “And what’s there you can teach me?”

He smirks, “I have my reasons for wanting you as a student. One of them is that I sense potential from you. As for the other question, I would say I’m quite a powerful uppermoon.”

Uppermoon? You’ve heard that word somewhere. But where?

Flashback———————————————————

You were training with your father on a sunny day. You were still a child back then.

“Father, tell me about being a demon slayer,” you had requested.

“Ah,” he smiles brightly, “Well we use katanas to slay the demons, hence the name. It’s a difficult job but I’m certain you will one day be strong enough to defeat an uppermoon. You have potential.”

“What’s an uppermoon?” you had asked.

“They are high ranking demons. Usually, only hashira can defeat them.”

“You think I can be a hashira?” you exclaimed in shock.

He ruffles your hair, “Of course. You have potential. Now let’s review swinging the katana.”

You nodded excitedly. Working with wooden katanas were your favourite parts of training. You had hoped to wield a real one someday.

At the time you weren’t sure you could be a demon slayer. Everyone else in your family seemed to have a whole lifeline planned out for you.

Uppermoons are high ranking demons. So it meant the cult leader was a demon. And a high ranking demon too. You never actually bothered to learn his name.

“I accept,” you finally say.

You knew that you had to either accept or be murdered and eaten, risking your entire family in the process.

“That’s great!” he says with a bright smile that seemed almost genuine, “We’ll start tomorrow!”

The years passed by in a whirlwind. Days and days of near impossible training, being Douma’s personal blood supply, and keeping up with it all as a human.

He taught you some things about his blood demon art that you turned into a breathing style since humans couldn’t use blood demon art.

You called it “ice breathing” and you could do things such as make the temperature colder, summon icicles of different sizes, and blast icy wind with a strike of your katana.

In order for you to train properly, you did acquire a used katana from a demon slayer Douma had killed.

One day you were striking down dummies with your katana in the room you used to train when you suddenly heard anguished screams. It was a normal thing to hear in Douma’s temple but the screams sounded off to you.

You sheathed your katana and walked towards the sound. It was coming from the preying area as expected.

You opened the sliding door slightly, enough to peek in. There say Douma on his throne, drinking blood from an unconscious women’s neck.

But it wasn’t just any women. It your mother.

You gasped in surprise and threw on the door completely.

Douma smiles when he sees you, “Come in Y/N, although I’d suggest knocking next time.”

“You told me that if I trained under you, you’d keep my family from harm!” you accused.

“Ah yes. I did say that didn’t I?” Douma says calmly, “I suppose I didn’t mention that they’d be eaten after those few years.”

You were in a stunned silence. Douma continues to enjoy his ‘meal’ as he relishes in the fear he has given you.

You were smart. You knew your mother was beyond help. You couldn’t even see the rising and falling of her chest anymore. You turned and ran right out the door just before tears streamed down your face.

You headed to your room to grab all your items. The katana in case anything happened, some clothes, a few snacks to live off on, and some survival items. You put them all in a backpack.

Meanwhile, Douma was wiping his mouth as blood had stained his face. He smiles evilly.

“I know you’ll come back my Y/N-chan. After all, your mine.”

Definitely a mizunoe / Mizunoto because he's rude and just lets others do his job for him and just uses a plain katana or a scattergun (IF HE DOESN'T USE BREATHING STYLES)

Engineer probably uses a mixture of lightning and stone breathing because of how used he is to electric things like his robots (proud father <3) he's very speedy with his breathing style (he tries his best)

He's a tsuchinoto for his devotion to fighting and his unique way of fighting he uses a double sided axe (kinda like a scythe but the blades or bigger and the stick is smaller by like three inches)

Sniper probably uses serpent breathing because he's used to sniping and it's like the closet it is to that or something (even just piss breathing/j)

He uses this longer version of a machete because professionals have standards and fighting demons with short weapons is NOT professional. He's a kanoto because he doesn't train that much which leads to him fighting low rank demons to no rank demons

He can't breathe. Okay I'm joking if he did have a breathing style it would be mist breathing because of (NOT BECAUSE OF HIS SMOKING HABIT) but because of how he can just disappear out of nowhere with one of the forms

Medic most likely uses blood/blood Sakura breathing OR insect breathing he just likes things that reminds him of work OFF of work so he decided to go with that

He's probably rank kanoto (they're all beginners so ERM yeah :3) despite him being pretty strong and smart in the field and uses a plain katana OR the weapon shinobou uses depending on what breathing style (I didn't fully decide yet :3)

Tips for Creating Breathing Styles?

So, I'm making a breathing style to go with a character (and there's logical reasons I'm having them make a breathing style, but I'm not going to spoil that here) and I would like some pointers/tips/constructive criticism if y'all are cool with that. I'm kinda just going to copy and paste my notes into here so any name mentions are my character and can just be ignored.

Note(s):

I am not Japanese nor am I a practitioner of Shinto so any criticism of my lack of knowledge will be ignored cause I'm already rather aware of that. That's why I'm asking for help.

Also, you do not even know how much research I've already put into this project so just kindly point me in the right direction and I will happily fuck off.

Also also, don't judge my egregious use of wikipedia. If there are better sources I should be using please just tell me what they are.

Anyways, thanks in advance, here's my notes:

Vaguely based off the mikagura Ren does during festivals

Kind of mimicking the mai and odori portions of the dance

I should probably look up videos for reference; that might help

Is an offshoot of Kaminari no Kokyu and ~technically~ Hono no Kokyu

1st Kata: Kiyome (Purity)

A languid slash that leaves behind a feeling of peace

Usually used when an oni surrenders

If the slash doesn’t behead the oni, the oni’s regeneration ability is reduced

Helps them to remember some human memories?

2nd Kata: Mikagura (Shinto Dance)

Maybe have a reference to Amaterasu or Ame-no-Uzume since they were the ones that started the legend that created kagura

Footwork taken from the mikagura dance? I don’t know shit about sword-fighting

3rd Kata: Hyoi (Possession)

A spinning slash that includes multiple rotations

The demon slayer’s strength and reflexes are then greatly enhanced for a time?

Kind of meant to mimic the end of the mai portion to a mikagura when the miko is meant to be possessed by a kami

Ends up creating a fire whirl as well

4th Kata: Izanami (One of the First Kami)

The effect of the attack creates a feeling of burning alive

Kind of like how Izanami died giving birth to Kagutsuchi

5th Kata: Akuryo Taisan (Exorcism (essentially, but kind of not really))

I have no idea what this would do yet but it would definitely hurt

I imagine it would also hurt without a nichirin weapon tho

6th Kata: Tatarigami (Cataclysmic Demons)

A reference to the fact this is based off of firestorms?

The effect of this one would be even more if it comes right after the 3rd, 8th, or 9th kata. Or maybe after any other kata

It's a combo kata I guess

Probably a strike that focuses on power?

7th Kata: Amano-Iwato (the cave Amaterasu hid in)

A slash that creates a bright flash of light that mimics sunlight

Can disorient and blind an opponent

Meant to reference when Amaterasu left her cave after hiding

Maybe I’ll just call it Amaterasu so Izanami’s not the only god referenced

8th Kata: Jigoku (Hell)

Eight consecutive attacks that burn more and more as they reach the end

Has the effect of reducing an oni’s regeneration ability

There’s a special effect for each attack but I don’t know what they are yet

All I know is they represent each level of Jigoku

Or maybe the effect is that there is more and more of an actual firestorm around them as the attacks continue?

Final slash results in a bigass explosion like from a pyrocumulonimbus?

9th Kata: Kuji-Kiri (Nine Symbolic Cuts)

Nine consecutive slashes and cuts made in the correct horizontal and vertical order while saying the yo and in-syllables in the correct order

Rin, Pyo, To, Sha, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Zai, Zen?

The effect of this kata greatly reduces an oni’s regeneration ability

If the Kuji-Kiri is done to an oni w/out a nichirin sword it still hurts like a bitch imo

The Raven Hashira

He invented a subtype of air breathing he calls Feather Breathing.

While he is competent as any other hashira, he mainly helps take care of the crows before they are assigned to Slayers.
