4 conferences in 10 days…..
After a weekend of rest, I have taken a moment to reflect on what has been an intense yet rewarding few weeks, attending four different conferences back-to-back across two countries: IndieDevDay in Barcelona, Leadership Day by IGDA Finland, Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki, and W Love Games.
This year was especially significant as W Love Games had a booth at IndieDevDay, shared with IGDA, where we introduced the WLG Indie Alliance and upcoming programs for indie developers. The energy was absolutely incredible with three days of insightful talks, countless indie games on display, and valuable discussions with peers from across the industry. I was honoured to host a panel featuring amazing women in the industry - Anna Guxens, Elena Flores and Suzanne Freyjadis, and participate in another panel alongside Carolina Bonnin, Eulalia García and Alexandra Vo.
With little time to catch our breath, we headed back to Helsinki to prepare for Finnish Games Week—a brand-new event in the Finnish gaming scene that has been years in the making. But what exactly is Finnish Games Week?
Finnish Games Week: A Milestone for the Nordic Games Industry
As the Chairperson of W Love Games and Lead Organizer of this event, I am incredibly proud of our team initiating the first-ever Finnish Games Week. Our vision was to create an event that would provide a variety of opportunities for game developers, whether they were looking to advance their businesses or grow individually within their careers. To achieve this, we collaborated with IGDA Finland and Steel Media, merging three of Finland's major gaming events into a single, impactful week.
The result? A carefully curated, five-day program designed to meet the diverse needs of developers, creators, and professionals across the gaming industry. Finnish Games Week kicked off with Leadership Day by IGDA Finland, aimed at industry professionals and future leaders. It was here that many meaningful connections were made, laying the foundation for what would be an incredibly successful week. Following that, Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki took the spotlight for the next two days, offering a business-centric focus with networking opportunities for companies looking to grow in the global market. Finally, we wrapped up the week with W Love Games—a hybrid event that saw over 1k participants worldwide. This final event was all about a dev-to-dev approach, offering talks, workshops, and mentorship designed to provide practical knowledge in a safe and inclusive space for developers to share their stories and expertise.
What is next?
I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved with Finnish Games Week, and we would not be able to do so without our team of volunteers, speakers, workshop facilitators, mentors, partners and sponsors. Big shoutout to Supercell, MiTale, Suomen pelinkehittäjät ry, Metaplay, Fingersoft, Game Makers of Finland, IGDA Finland, Brazil Embassy in Helsinki. The response has been overwhelming, and we are already starting the preparations for Finnish Games Week 2025. If you would like to get involved or host a side event, don’t hesitate to reach out—we are open to new ideas and collaborations!
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this week a success. Finnish Games Week is just the beginning, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds as we continue to grow this incredible community. Stay tuned for the 2025 announcements and upcoming plans! (These awesome friendship-bracelets were made at W Love Games party hosted by Supercell, big thanks to their team for making such a memorable evening! 💜)

Salvador’s Soul: Afro-Brazilian Culture and Carnival in Bahia
Salvador, the vibrant capital of Bahia in northeastern Brazil, pulses with a unique cultural heartbeat, steeped in Afro-Brazilian heritage, mesmerizing rhythms, and colorful celebrations. Often referred to as the “Capital of Happiness,” Salvador’s rich history, lively streets, and famous Carnival make it a destination like no other. Here’s a guide to experiencing the soulful essence of Salvador, from its Afro-Brazilian traditions to the iconic Carnival that fills the city with life.
Begin your journey in Pelourinho, Salvador’s Historic Center, a UNESCO World Heritage site that reflects Brazil’s colonial past and African roots. Cobblestone streets wind past pastel-colored houses, while beautiful churches showcase intricate baroque architecture. Pelourinho, which once held a dark history as the location of slave markets, now stands as a symbol of resilience and cultural celebration. It’s also a hub for capoeira (the Brazilian martial art and dance) performances and Afro-Brazilian drumming groups like Olodum, filling the air with rhythmic beats and energy.
Explore Salvador’s deep-rooted Afro-Brazilian spirituality at Bonfim Church and the Candomblé temples. Bonfim Church, famous for its Senhor do Bonfim celebrations, is a site where Catholic and Afro-Brazilian traditions merge. Tying colorful ribbons on the church’s gates is a local custom symbolizing faith and wishes. For a closer look at Afro-Brazilian spirituality, consider visiting a Candomblé temple. Candomblé, an Afro-Brazilian religion brought by enslaved Africans, is a powerful spiritual practice that honors African deities, or orixás. Witnessing a Candomblé ceremony is a memorable way to gain insight into the city’s deep cultural roots.
For a taste of Bahia’s culinary wonders, head to the São Joaquim Market. This bustling market is a sensory journey filled with exotic fruits, aromatic spices, and fresh seafood. Sample the iconic Bahian dish acarajé, a savory fritter made from black-eyed peas and filled with vatapá, a spicy shrimp paste. This dish, often sold by Baianas dressed in traditional white lace dresses, is a local favorite with roots in West African cuisine.
Visit the beaches of Salvador to experience the relaxed Bahian lifestyle. The city is home to some of Brazil’s most scenic beaches, like Porto da Barra, where locals and visitors alike soak up the sun and enjoy the tranquil waters. A bit further from the center, Itapuã Beach offers a more laid-back vibe, surrounded by palm trees and fresh seafood vendors. Spending time at these beaches offers a glimpse into Salvador’s connection to the sea and its coastal heritage.
No visit to Salvador would be complete without experiencing its legendary Carnival, one of the world’s largest street parties. Held annually in February or early March, Salvador’s Carnival differs from the Rio spectacle with a unique Afro-Brazilian focus. The streets come alive with blocos (street bands), electric trios (mobile stages with live bands), and samba-reggae rhythms. Olodum, a prominent Afro-Brazilian drum group, leads vibrant parades that fill the city with energy and pride. Dancing through the streets with locals, or simply watching the vibrant parades, is an unforgettable way to experience Salvador’s joyous spirit.
For those interested in art and history, visit the Afro-Brazilian Museum in Pelourinho. The museum highlights African influences on Brazilian culture, with displays of traditional artifacts, orixá statues, and artwork by Afro-Brazilian artists. It’s a fascinating space to learn more about how African heritage has shaped everything from Salvador’s art to its religion and festivals.
End your day in the lively neighborhood of Rio Vermelho, a cultural and culinary hotspot. Known for its energetic nightlife, Rio Vermelho is home to vibrant bars, seafood restaurants, and live music venues. Try the local moqueca, a coconut-based fish stew seasoned with dendê (palm oil), and enjoy live samba and bossa nova music. This neighborhood captures Salvador’s free-spirited, festive essence, making it a perfect place to unwind after a day of exploration.
Salvador offers travelers a journey through history, culture, and celebration, unlike anywhere else in Brazil. From its Afro-Brazilian roots to its world-famous Carnival, the city embodies a spirit of resilience, joy, and pride in its heritage.
For those looking to make the most of a trip to Salvador, agencies like Roomchai Limited, Bahia Adventure, and Brazil EcoJourneys provide tailored tours, immersive experiences, and guided visits to Salvador’s cultural highlights. These agencies offer opportunities to explore Salvador’s soul deeply, from intimate Candomblé ceremonies to culinary tours and Carnival experiences.

The Colorful World of Parrots: Spotlight on Senegal Birds and Dusky Conures
When it comes to feathered companions, few creatures are as enchanting as parrots. Their vibrant colors, intelligence, and playful nature make them a popular choice for pet owners worldwide. Among the numerous parrot species, the Senegal bird and the dusky conure stand out as two captivating options. This article will explore these birds in detail, examining their characteristics, care requirements, and market prices, particularly focusing on the Senegal bird price.
Discovering the Senegal Bird
A Glimpse into Their Background
The Senegal bird (Poicephalus senegalus) hails from the lush landscapes of West Africa, where it thrives in the savannas and wooded areas. Renowned for its vibrant green plumage, accented with brilliant yellow and orange underparts, the Senegal bird is not only visually stunning but also has a personality to match. With a size averaging between 9 to 10 inches, they fit comfortably into various living environments, making them suitable for both apartment and house living.
Personality Traits: The Joy of Companionship
Senegal birds are known for their affectionate and engaging nature. They form strong bonds with their owners and display a playful demeanor that can bring joy to any household. Their intelligence is remarkable; they can learn a variety of words and phrases, delighting their owners with vocal mimicry. Their playful antics, such as climbing and swinging, will keep you entertained for hours.
Lifespan and Health Considerations
With the right care, Senegal birds can live for 25 years or more. It is vital to provide them with a balanced diet, including high-quality pellets, fresh fruits, and vegetables, along with regular vet check-ups. Common health issues can arise from neglect, such as feather plucking or obesity, so ensuring their physical and mental well-being is crucial.
Introducing the Dusky Conure Bird
A Beautiful Companion
The dusky conure (Aratinga weddellii), also known as the dusky-headed conure, brings its charm from the tropical forests of South America, particularly Brazil. With an average length of 12 to 13 inches, this bird features a striking appearance characterized by its dark head, vibrant green body, and hints of yellow and blue in its plumage.
A Social Butterfly
Dusky conures are celebrated for their sociable and outgoing personalities. They thrive on interaction, both with their human companions and other birds. Their playful nature is infectious, often leading to spontaneous games of fetch or playful banter. These birds possess an innate curiosity, making them explore every nook and cranny of their surroundings.
Lifespan and Essential Care
Similar to the Senegal bird, dusky conures can enjoy a lifespan of 20 to 30 years with proper care. A varied diet consisting of pellets, fruits, and vegetables is crucial for their health. They require mental stimulation and social interaction to prevent boredom and associated behavioral issues.
Side-by-Side: Senegal Birds vs. Dusky Conures
Size and Aesthetic Appeal
While Senegal birds are smaller and more compact, dusky conures have a more elongated and robust body. The vivid colors of both species are a highlight, with Senegal birds flaunting a mix of green, yellow, and orange, while dusky conures display deep greens contrasted by their dark heads and colorful accents.
Behavioral Differences
Both species are playful and affectionate, but their temperaments differ slightly. Senegal birds can be somewhat reserved, forming strong attachments to specific individuals, while dusky conures tend to be more extroverted, enjoying the company of many different people.
Vocalization: A Matter of Volume
Both birds are capable of vocal mimicry, but the volume and style of their calls vary. Senegal birds produce softer, melodious sounds, while dusky conures can be quite loud and boisterous. If noise levels are a concern, it’s essential to consider these differences before making a choice.
The Economic Aspects: Understanding Senegal Bird Price
Evaluating Senegal Bird Price
When it comes to adopting a Senegal bird, potential owners should anticipate a price range between $300 to $700. Several factors can influence this price, including breeder reputation, the bird's age, and whether it has undergone any training.
Influencing Factors
Breeder Reputation: Birds from established breeders who prioritize health and socialization typically command higher prices. A reputable breeder ensures that the bird is well-cared for and socialized from a young age.
Color Mutations: Some Senegal birds display unique color mutations, such as cinnamon or lutino, which can significantly increase their market value. These rarer variations attract collectors and enthusiasts willing to pay more.
Training and Socialization: Young birds that have started to learn social behaviors or basic commands may also come with a higher price tag. Training plays a vital role in ensuring the bird adjusts well to its new home.
The Dusky Conure Price
Dusky conures generally range from $500 to $1,200. This price difference compared to Senegal birds can be attributed to their relative rarity and popularity.
Influencing Factors
Availability: Dusky conures are less frequently found in pet stores compared to other conures, leading to increased demand and higher prices.
Breeding Practices: Just like Senegal birds, purchasing from well-regarded breeders focusing on the bird’s overall health and well-being may lead to a higher cost.
Training and Preparation: Dusky conures that have been socialized and trained often come at a premium price due to their readiness for companionship.
Making the Right Choice: Factors to Consider
Assessing Your Lifestyle
Before welcoming either a Senegal bird or a dusky conure into your home, it’s essential to assess your lifestyle and environment. If you have a quieter household and prefer a bird that engages in softer vocalizations, a Senegal bird might be your best choice. On the other hand, if you enjoy a lively atmosphere filled with chatter and interaction, a dusky conure could be the ideal feathered companion.
Space Requirements
Both species require ample space to spread their wings and engage in natural behaviors. While Senegal birds can thrive in slightly smaller cages, dusky conures benefit from larger aviaries that allow for more play and exploration. Ensuring that your living space accommodates their needs is crucial.
Commitment and Care Needs
Owning a parrot is a long-term commitment. Both Senegal birds and dusky conures require daily social interaction, mental stimulation, and physical exercise. Assessing your ability to meet these needs will help you decide which bird may be the right fit for your home.
Building a Bond: Tips for New Bird Owners
Socialization Techniques
Both Senegal birds and dusky conures thrive on social interaction. Spending quality time with your bird, engaging in play, and offering praise when they mimic sounds or perform tricks can strengthen your bond. Positive reinforcement is key!
Enrichment Activities
Keeping your bird mentally stimulated is essential to their happiness. Provide toys, puzzles, and opportunities for foraging to encourage natural behaviors. Rotate toys regularly to keep your bird engaged and prevent boredom.
Diet and Nutrition
A balanced diet is critical for the health of both bird species. Offer a mix of high-quality pellets, fresh fruits, and vegetables to ensure they receive the necessary nutrients. Avoid feeding them avocados, chocolate, or caffeine, as these can be toxic.
Conclusion: Choosing Your Feathered Friend
In the enchanting world of parrots, both the Senegal bird and the dusky conure bird shine brightly with their unique characteristics. Understanding their care requirements, behavioral traits, and market prices—especially the Senegal bird price—can help potential owners make informed decisions.
Whether you choose the affectionate and playful Senegal bird or the lively and sociable dusky conure, both species promise to bring joy and companionship into your life. With proper care and attention, your new feathered friend can become a beloved member of your family for many years.
Final Thoughts
Taking the time to research and understand the specific needs and personalities of these parrot species is essential for a harmonious relationship. No matter which bird you choose, the rewards of companionship and the joy of watching your bird thrive will be truly fulfilling. Happy birdkeeping!

Fall Equinox (NYT) This Sunday, the autumnal equinox is upon us, and with it, a shift to shorter days, longer nights and the astronomical start of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. Equinoxes occur when Earth reaches a point in its orbit where the sun shines directly on the Equator. This happens twice a year, in March and in September, and is a result of Earth’s spinning on an axis that is tilted 23.5 degrees from the plane of its orbit. During an equinox, places around the globe experience nearly equal periods of day and night.
Harris and Trump Battle for Undecided Voters (NYT) Devon Howard is not feeling the joy. Mr. Howard, a 25-year-old airport technician, has no use for Vice President Kamala Harris’s displays of optimism. And he doubts whether either candidate can fix what he sees as a country headed in the wrong direction. Like other voters in Las Vegas, Mr. Howard is fed up with the costs of gas and rent, as his paycheck seems to cover less and less of his regular expenses. “I just don’t like the way they’re playing it, telling us we should all be more optimistic when things just are not looking good right now,” Mr. Howard said while warming up for a softball game in East Las Vegas. “They’re all out for themselves, not helping people like us over here. We just get the same promises, and not much is changing.” His sourness about the economy, the direction of the country and his own personal finances reflects the feelings of millions of Americans. They’re the so-called undecided or persuadable voters in the seven battleground states who will decide the outcome of the 2024 election. While the economy has stabilized, many voters have said they don’t feel it in their lives and are facing far higher prices than they once did. What they want to know from the candidates, above all else, is: What will you do for me?
Secret Service’s next challenge: Keeping scores of world leaders safe at the UN General Assembly (AP) Below United Nations headquarters, a state-of-the-art security post dubbed the “Brain Center” hums with activity on the eve of next week’s high-level meeting of the U.N. General Assembly. The annual diplomatic pilgrimage is bringing more than 140 world leaders to New York City, including the leaders of Israel, the Palestinians and Ukraine. Keeping them safe is the U.S. Secret Service’s next big challenge. The agency, under a cloud after a July assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, is confident in its multi-layer, multi-agency plan to protect the U.N. General Assembly, which is deemed a Super Bowl-level National Special Security Event. The plan—developed with New York City police and the U.N. Security and Safety Service, among other agencies—includes not just motorcades and protective details, but NYPD helicopters and patrol boats, a dozen U.N. security K-9 teams sweeping for explosives, road closures and traffic diversions. The Secret Service is bringing in agents from posts around the world for the event. The Coast Guard is restricting East River access near the U.N. and the Federal Aviation Administration is closing airspace.
Brazil’s online gambling craze (Reuters) Soccer-mad Brazilians have fallen hard for online sports betting, yielding a boom of interest from foreign gambling companies that may boost state coffers but also threatens to divert funds from consumer spending in other areas. Latin America’s largest economy has seen lower-than-expected growth in consumer spending in the country in recent months, a weakness some banks and think tanks are blaming on gambling. Such a linkage would echo data seen in some U.S. states touched by online gambling fever. Brazilians spent 68.2 billion reais ($12.2 billion) in the year ending in June on betting platforms abroad, according to an analysis by lender Itau Unibanco, based on central bank data. That would put it among the world’s top six sports betting markets. Diego, a 38-year-old factory worker in Sao Paulo who became addicted to sports bets and then online slot machines, said his losses ate up his salary and left him in permanent debt. “I made a lot of money gambling at first, but then I stopped winning. I couldn’t pay my credit card, basic household bills, my rent,” he said. “I practically stopped living.”
Belgium's drug gangs (NZZ/Switzerland) When people think about Belgium, cliches like waffles, fries and bad weather tend to spring to mind. But the country also has a dark side. And this dark side has a name: cocaine. Last year, authorities here seized a record 116 tons of the drug. This makes the port of Antwerp Europe's top cocaine hub, ahead of Rotterdam or Hamburg. Experts estimate that cartels smuggle up to 1,000 tons of the drug into the country every year. One thousand tons. That's enough to generate revenues of approximately 50 billion euros. Belgium has become Europe's center for cocaine distribution—and is consequently increasingly suffering from the violence of the drug cartels. It is today a country where the minister of justice was almost kidnapped, and where journalists, lawyers and police officers are risking their lives to do their jobs. Belgium is a country in which the population of the largest port city is being terrorized by grenade attacks, gunfire and kidnappings. Is Belgium on its way to becoming a narco-state?
How the Kremlin Spreads Its Messages (NYT) Major American social media companies sometimes describe the task of identifying disinformation or other malevolent material pushed online by state actors as an endless game of cat and mouse. This week several of them made a significant play in that game by booting RT and its related Russian state-owned media network off their platforms, a move that in the short term will sharply reduce the network’s audience numbers, media analysts said. But the Kremlin, when thwarted in the past, has quickly devised new ways to get its message out, they noted, and RT can move to other outlets for distribution. Take what happened just two years ago, when Canada and the European Union banned RT outright. Viewership in different countries for channels like RT Deutsch and RT France immediately cratered, but within days new pages appeared that exactly mirrored RT under different, unrelated names that were not blocked and popped up in internet search results, experts noted. The online pages of RT and other, related outlets like Sputnik have built a worldwide audience on Facebook of more than 88 million followers, according to data released on CrowdTangle early this year. RT’s basic message that the West remains an imperialist aggressor meshed well with widespread distrust of the United States and Europe.
Over 20 people wounded after Russia strikes apartment blocks in Ukraine’s Kharkiv (AP) Russian strikes hit high-rise apartment blocks in Ukraine’s Kharkiv, leaving dozens wounded in a second consecutive nighttime attack this week. The bombs fell Saturday night on the district of Shevchenkivsky, in Ukraine’s northeast, local Gov. Oleh Syniehubov said. The attack came after another late Friday that wounded 15 people, including a 10- and 12-year-old, as Russian airstrikes hit three Kharkiv neighborhoods, Terekhov said. According to Ukrainian officials, KAB-type aerial glide bombs were used in both attacks, a retrofitted Soviet weapon that has for months laid waste to eastern Ukraine.
Marxist Dissanayake wins Sri Lanka’s presidential election as voters reject old guard (AP) Marxist lawmaker Anura Kumara Dissanayake won Sri Lanka’s presidential election, the Election Commission announced Sunday, after voters rejected the old political guard that has been widely accused of pushing the South Asian nation toward economic ruin. Dissanayake, whose pro-working class and anti-political elite campaigning made him popular among youth, secured victory over opposition leader Sajith Premadasa and incumbent liberal President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who took over the country two years ago after its economy hit bottom. Dissanayake received 5,740,179 votes, followed by Premadasa with 4,530,902, Election Commission data showed.
The growing conflict between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah (AP) This week saw a dizzying escalation in the nearly yearlong conflict between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah. First came two days of exploding pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah—deadly attacks pinned on Israel that also maimed civilians around Lebanon. Hezbollah’s leader vowed to retaliate, and on Friday the militant group launched a wave of rockets into northern Israel. Later in the day, the commander of Hezbollah’s most elite unit was killed in a strike in Beirut that killed dozens more people. Early Sunday, the cross-border attacks ramped up. Hezbollah launched more than 100 rockets deeper into northern Israel, with some landing near the city of Haifa, and Israel launched hundreds of strikes on Lebanon. Many fear the events are the prelude to an all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed Shiite group that is Lebanon’s most powerful armed force. A war threatens to bring devastation in Lebanon, heavy missile fire into Israeli cities, and further destabilize a region already shaken by the war in Gaza.
Exploding pagers leave clues to Israeli ‘red button’ plot, officials say (Washington Post) The blackened husks of pagers and handheld radios that exploded in a colossal attack on Hezbollah this week have become fragmentary clues to how Israel orchestrated what current and former Israeli and Western security officials said was part of an elaborate, decade-long effort to penetrate the militant group. Markings on the mangled electronic components have left a trail leading back through a manufacturer in Taiwan to a Hungarian shell company suspected of being set up or exploited by Israeli intelligence to disguise its alleged role in delivering the lethally rigged devices to Hezbollah. Security officials in another European capital have probed whether a second shell company there was the real seller behind the pagers deal. Current and former officials have described it as part of a multipronged effort by Israel over the past decade to develop what Israeli officials referred to as a “red button” capability—meaning a potentially devastating penetration of an adversary that can remain dormant for months if not years before being activated. An Israeli intelligence official said that the explosions marked the culmination of a multiyear investment in penetrating Hezbollah’s communications, logistics and procurement structures.

FMCG Market - Forecast(2024 - 2030)
FMCG Market Overview
The FMCG market size is estimated to reach $16.2 billion by the year 2026 and is poised to grow at a CAGR of 6.7% during the forecast period of 2021-2026. FMCG refers to Fast Moving Consumer Goods, or also known as consumer-packaged goods. As the name is derogatory, all the goods included in this market have a short shelf life, and the consumer's daily need items are mostly up on the shelves. Owing to the fast rotation of goods, it becomes elementary to have superior supply chain management. Moreover, vendor-managed inventory offers better prospects to the distribution channels as they are skilled in that same domain. Consumer grocery items, along with certain home care items, make the FMCG segment whole. Moreover, manufacturers are now putting dietary supplements along with over-the-counter medicines under the head of FMCG, as they are of utmost importance to the current generation owing to their nutritional benefits. The customization and altered product offerings to different segments of the society, along with lucrative marketing strategies, are some of the factors driving the FMCG industry forward during the forecast period of 2021-2026.

Key Takeaways
North American market, held a dominant revenue share in the year 2020. It is owing to high disposable income, concentrated population density, and modernization to adopt branded products that are offered by the FMCG segment. Asia-Pacific shows optimal growth opportunities for the manufacturers. It is owing to the growing middle class, premiumization, and lastly, changing lifestyle.
The demand for FMCG products will be driven by the customization and altered customer product offerings to the target market. However, poor relative servicing is a challenge faced by the FMCG industry.
Detailed analysis of the Strength, Weaknesses, and Opportunities of the prominent players operating in the market will be provided in the FMCG report.
FMCG Market Segment Analysis- By Product Types
The FMCG market based on product types can be segmented into food and beverages, personal care, health care, home care, and consumer electronics. The food and beverages segment held a dominant share in the year 2020. It is owing to a vast list of products offerings and alterations created by the various companies operating. Beverages are not just limited to water, tea, or any other former items. It incorporates multiple new inventions, which help the consumer attain the nutritional benefits and not compensate for the tastes.
Moreover, the food and beverages segment is estimated to be the fastest-growing segment, with a CAGR of 7.5% over the forecast period of 2021-2026. It is owing to the rising population of millennials and the preferential shift toward obtaining their diet from vegan products. 1 in 3 food products launched in the UK are now vegan. More importantly, the ready-to-go, with high nutrition content, is seeing a compelling demand.
Inquiry Before Buying
FMCG Market Segment Analysis- By Distribution Channel
The FMCG market based on distribution channels can be segmented into offline and online stores. The offline stores held the largest market share in the year 2020. It is owing to the property and characteristics of the offline stores to display multiple items on the shelves to create a sale. As a result, consumers are better positioned to understand the product characteristics and gain additional discounts when offline stores post their purchases.
However, online stores are estimated to be the fastest-growing segment, with a CAGR of 8.1% over the forecast period of 2021-2026. It is owing to better customer relationship management tools now incorporated by the companies to gain a hold on their regular customers. As a result, regular customers are offered discounts, cashback, and other benefits on the website. Additionally, the retail margin goes down while offering the products online. For example, Tata Tea Gold costs INR 625 in hypermarkets but costs INR 483 in online stores.
FMCG Market Segment Analysis- By Geography
The FMCG market based on Geography can be further segmented into North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, South America, and the Rest of the World. Geographically, Asia-Pacific held the largest share of 34% as compared to the other regions. It is owing to the robust supply management systems and reliance on vendor-managed inventories, which in turn reduces the damages and induces rapid consumption without the inclination of prices. Asia-Pacific also offers lucrative growth opportunities to the FMCG market. It is owing to the increasing young population in regions such as India and China. For example, India has a 65% young population, with education systems revamping, the consumption of packaged goods is bound to increase. Government initiatives supporting the manufacturing abilities while increasing the consumers' spending ability will act as a key reason for this region.

FMCG Market Drivers
Augmentation of Big-Data Analytics in the FMCG Market is helping to understand the needs of customers.
Big- Data analytics has been a prevalent discipline used across the industries. The latest advent of the analytical tool in the FMCG segment has helped the product manufacturers to comprehend consumer needs. The facts are more evident than the survey is what the FMCG companies believe. For example, Coco-Cola launched the program with Hewlett Packard by the name of “Share a Coke,” the analytical tools helped estimate the target audience for the program, and specific label coke bottles were rolled out to consumers. The following year Coco Coal recorded a 19% sales growth. Moreover, the customized offers entail the consumers to feel privileged and opt for buying that product.
The promotion of sustainable product offerings is helping the FMCG market to gain traction.
Consumers have become more concerned about the climatic changes and how their daily routines hamper the environment in matters more than one. As a result, product manufacturers focus on providing the desired goods in an optimal package, which is either reusable or recyclable. Moreover, in the UK, supermarkets contribute to 810,000 tonnes of throwaway packaging, which is hampering the environment. To counter the move, Tesco, the first retailer in the UK, announced removing plastic-wrapped multipacks from its offerings altogether. The following activities will result in the elimination of 350 tonnes of plastic annually.
Moreover, a plant-based diet has been given preference all over the world owing to sustainability. The manufacturers readily accepted the following interest, and now, 1 in 3 products offered are vegan. While producing FMCG goods, energy efficiency is another issue that the brands adopt and involve the public in the aftermath.
FMCG Market Challenges
The hindrance created in sales owing to providing relative servicing.
Mostly, in the FMCG market, several brands happen to take the shelves of the retail store. Hence, it becomes essential to offer product differentiation and offering of one brand over the other. Relative Servicing addresses the value provided in contrast with the competition. According to a study conducted by 155 brands, when the relative servicing is not appropriate, the brands performed 81% of their average. While, at the place where the relative servicing was reasonable, the brands registered a 1.2x increase in the revenue.
The lack of skills pertaining to reading the market by the sales professionals is a ready challenge faced by the FMCG Industry.
The responsibility of the sales professionals in the field becomes of utmost importance. And if their skills and knowledge cannot capture the prevailing trends and explain the same to the consumer, the overall sales go down. If the companies don’t know the on-field consumer wants and reactions, the offerings cannot be customized, and the deals are hampered. The consumer behavior is dynamic, and the FMCG brand, which is fluent in capturing the so-called trend, will prevail in the market. Companies often hire professionals to ease the marketing process but do not check their knowledge to gain customer insights and wants. Failing to which, the customer doesn’t become their “premium” consumer.

Largest Street Market in the Amazon Sells Endangered Sharks and Rays
Some body parts are also illegally sold in other countries. In Asia, fins may reach up to US$1,000 per kilogramme
At 3:30am, we can still find dozens of local fishermen struggling to sell their merchandise near the Ver-o-Peso Market, located in the city of Belém, in the North of Brazil. 'Only R$10 per kilo — anyone?', one of them keeps asking.
Today’s 'bargain' is dogfish or shark. Unlike other fish on display, these have had their heads and fins cut off. 'This one here is known as baby shark', says the man. 'It’s great for making moqueca' [a traditional Brazilian fish stew].
Through genetic sequencing, we find that the fish they are selling is actually smalltail shark (Carcharhinus porosus), a species considered critically endangered by the Fauna Risk Assessment published by ICMBio (Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation).
Brazil's consumption of this type of fish is high. Based purely on import data, around 17,000 tonnes were consumed in 2021, and 13,000 in 2022 (there is no official data on fishing in the country). However, Brazilians are unaware that this kind of fishing involves illegal practices and threatens the species. From a commercial perspective, by-products or other body parts attract the greatest interest.

Excuse Me what is pulp and why is it importan?
Good question! And probably one I should have answered sooner. Time to put on the historian hat for this one.
"Pulp" is a term used mainly to describe forms of storytelling that sprang out or were dominant in 20th century cheap all-fiction American magazines from the 1900s to the 1950s. The pulp magazine began in 1896, when Frank Munsey's Argosy magazine, in order to cut costs, dropped the non-fiction articles and photographs and switched from glossy paper to the much less expensive wood pulp paper, hence the name. The pulp magazines would mainly take off as a distinct market and format in 1904, when Street & Smith learned that Popular Magazine, despite being marketed towards boys, was being consumed by men of all ages, so they increased page count and started putting popular authors on the issues.
It was specifically the 1905 reprint of H.Rider Haggard's Ayesha that not only put Street & Smith on the map as rivals to Argosy, but also inspired other companies to start publishing in the pulp format. Pulps encompassed literally everything that the authors felt like publishing. Westerns, romance, horror, sci-fi, railroad stories, war stories, war aviation stories. Zeppelins had a short-lived subgenre. Celebrities got their own magazines, it was really any genre or format they could pull off, anything they could get away with.
Nowadays, although they came quite late in it's history, the American pulps are most famous for it's "hero pulps", characters like The Shadow and Doc Savage that are viewed as a formative influence on comic book superheroes. The pulp magazines in America lasted until the 1950s, when cumulative factors such as paper shortages, diminishing audience returns and the closing of it's biggest publishers led to it dying off, although in the decades since there's always been publishers calling their magazines pulp. That's the American pulp history.
But pulps are a phenomenon that spans the entire world and has a much bigger history to it, because pulps have become synonymous with cheap fiction magazines and those have a much bigger history. In America, before the pulps, you had the dime novels, the direct predecessors of the pulps, as well as the novelettes. England had it's penny dreadfuls and story papers, and continued publishing pulp-format magazines past the American 1950s, and that's how we got Elric of Melniboné. France and Russia arguably got to it first with it's 1800s coulporters, chapbooks and particularly the feuilletons which lasted all the way to the 20th century and created characters such as Arsene Lupin, Fantomas and The Phantom of the Opera. The Germans published pulp under the name hefteromane. Japan also published pulp magazines both original as well as imported, and the current "light-novel" phenomenon started off as an equivalent of pulp magazines (it's even on the Wikipedia page). China has wuxia, Brazil has cordel, Italy has gialli. There were Indian, Persian, Ethiopian, Canadian, Australian pulps and much more. Look anywhere in the world and you'll find examples of "pulp" happening again and again, under different circumstances and time periods.
Even if we stick to American fiction, it's impossible to state that all pulp heroes must come from the 1900s-1950s pulp magazines, because that forces us to exclude some of the most popular pulp heroes like Indiana Jones, Green Hornet, Rocketeer and The Phantom. Pulp may have once been a term meant to refer to pulp magazines exclusively, but it's morphed and lost structure and it's become the closest thing we have to a general umbrella term that allows us to try and consolidate these under a shared history. It's a lot, as you can see, and it's why several pulp historians that broaden their scope outside of 1930s American fiction have adopted Roland Barthes's definition of pulp as "A Metaphor With No Brakes In It", which is still the closest thing to a true working definition we have.
Why is it important? You tell me. I don't like to stake claims about stuff being "important", everyone's got their own priorities in life. Surely a lot of people would scoff at the idea of old populist fiction published in what was functionally equivalent to toilet paper having any sort of "importance". On the other hand, some people definitely want to talk big about the pulps as a cultural bedrock of fiction, something that's baked into the lifeblood of all fiction as we currently know it. Which it is, mind you, but I don't like to talk about pulp fiction's value being derived mainly from merely the things it inspired.
There is definitely a historical importance to be had in cataloguing them. According to the US's foremost pulp researcher Jess Nevins, 38% of all American pulps no longer exist, and 14% of all American pulps survive in less than five copies. Many libraries have very scant, if any, records on them, many collectors are hard to locate and are uncooperative when it comes to sharing information and letting outsiders view their collections. A lot of them are bound up in legal complications that prevents them from taking off in the public domain, and a lot of them ARE public domain but are completely inacessible as research material. And that's the American pulps, foreign pulps have fared far worse in posterity, with records inaccessible to people unfamiliar with the language or locations, many existing merely in mentions on decades-old records, and hundreds if not thousands of them being completely gone beyond recovery or recall.
Gone, dead, wasted, destroyed. They can't be found in barbershops or warehouse or bookstores, not even in antique stores. Hundreds, thousands of characters, stories and creators, gone. Time and posterity have crushed them to dust, forgotten and ignored by their successors. Unfettered by pretenses of respectability that repressed their glossier counterparts, in packages meant to be destroyed after reading, proudly announcing itself as trash. Things that should have never even lasted as long as they did have died many times now. It's heroes peripherical shapeshifters, nearly all of whom seem dead, quite dead, as dead as fictional characters can possibly be.
But they do not die forever. Many of them have, maybe most of them have, but many of them linger on.
"The strange red flickering of 1930’s fiction seems distant now. You hold in your hand the product of a time too remote to recall, and feel a slow stir of wonder. The smell of pulp pages, an illustration, an advertisement, these fragile things mark the slow hammering of time and display what it has done. About you are today’s machines, today’s shadows.
Outside the window, leaves hang against the sky, as did leaves during the 1930’s. The sound of voices are no different then than now. You hold the magazine and feel something quite delicate slipping past. These solid forms surrounding you are all insubstantial. Time’s hammer will also pass across them, leaving little enough behind." - Spider, by Robert Sampson
Many of the things people call dead are just things that have been sleeping for a while or haven't had the chance to be born. Pulp fiction is dead on the page, inert, unless your imagination breathes live to it, and every now and then, one way or another, these characters dig themselves out of dustbins. Maybe it's a brief revival, maybe it's a successful reboot. Maybe they find publishers, or maybe the public domain allows them to find new life. Maybe new creators do interesting things with them, and maybe, just maybe, they live again because some won't shut up about them online. Some curious impulse led you to me, did it not?
We all have our Frankensteins to obsess over, and these are some of mine. As someone who's lived a life perpetually restless over pursuit of knowledge, pulp has lured me like a moth to flame, because I literally never run out of things to discover within it, I never run out of possibilities. As the years pass and the public domain starts being more and more open to the public, more and more narrative real state is brought forth for writers and artists and creators to play around.
Pulp is the dark matter of fiction, the uncatalogued depths of the ocean, the darkest recesses of space. It's the box of your grandfather's belongings, the treasure you find in an attic, a body part sticking out from an old playground. It's the things that don't work, don't succeed, the things that don't fit, that are out of place. That shouldn't live and succeed, and did so anyway. The things that slither in the cracks, the shadows behind the curtain.
Aren't you interested in peering on what's behind the curtain?
The exquisite workmanship of the head, of a pre-pyramidal age, and the hieroglyphics, symbols of a language that was forgotten when Rome was young–these, Kane sensed, were additions as modern to the antiquity of the staff itself as would be English words carved on the stone monoliths of Stonehenge.
As for the cat-head–looking at it sometimes Kane had a peculiar feeling of alteration; a faint sensing that once the pommel of the staff was carved with a different design. The dust-ancient Egyptian who had carved the head of Bast had merely altered the original figure, and what that figure had been, Kane had never tried to guess.
A close scrutiny of the staff always aroused a disquieting and almost dizzy suggestion of abysses of eons, unprovocative to further speculation. - The Footfalls Within, by Robert E Howard, quoted by Stuart Hopen’s The Mythic American Culture

thinking about ….
suna rintarō going to japan nationals and meeting his first young fans (who are like 5 years-old) before a match and they will do his infamous pose. he gets all flustered because these children are the first ones who don’t get intimidated by his gaze, which is why he does the pose as well, small blush faintly evident on his face when the children giggle in joy
kita shinsuke visiting onigiri miya quite often to watch the msby match with aran and osamu, while cheering loudly for his old teammate. and when he gets home to his granny, he will humbly reside the whole match while proudly stating that he’s grateful to have been the captain of his talented underclassmen. he would also personally deliver his rice to osamu and they would reminisce on their high school years
bokuto kōtarō having an press interview after the match, all sweaty and still full of adrenaline, while trying to look at each individual camera exclaiming how elated he feels that they won the match. however, by doing so he makes the camera crew feel kinda dizzy when trying to keep up with his energetic movements. he keeps on jumping up and down and his arms are going everywhere, almost hitting atsumu in the process who is standing next to him, having his own interview
sakusa kiyoomi keeping every single gift and letter from fans, especially his young fans. he puts all the letters in different plastic folders so they don’t crinkle and places the folders in a big album (kinda like a photo album, but with letters) and he often browse through it before bed. the gifts are displayed in a special display cabinet. he also stops when fans recognize him and he will take a picture with them and his fans know how crowds make him feels. that’s why they keep a safe distance from him, while forming a line so he won’t feel overwhelmed
hinata shōyō taking natsu on vacation to brazil when he’s on his break from volleybal and showing her all the sights and hotspots he’s been to during his time there. he also takes her to the people he met. on his vacation, he reunites with nishinoya and asahi who are visiting brazil as well. shōyō would try to teach them all basic portuguese, noya would teach shōyō how to fish and asahi takes natsu on a shopping trip to the local markets/shops. they would also play a lot of beach volleybal and later group face-time with the old team

day 3 : lost
Today I made sure to have a better breakfast of toast and hard boiled eggs. Then we walked to The British Museum where everyone’s allergies were acting up terribly. Something I had been noticing before but really noticed this morning was the amount of particles in the air. Some are just pollen but I always wonder if some has to do with all the smoking people do here.
While there was so much at the museum to see, we went right to the remains of the Parthenon and walked around for a bit. It was tragic that it’s all in pieces around the room and that it can’t be all together like it was meant to be but the team who took it from Athens experimented with how to take it down plus the Ottoman Empire had exploded the building because they stored gunpowder in there in years prior.
Then we went and saw Mayan works as well as stuff from the Benine Kingdom. They were cool but they don’t peek my interest nearly as much.
Something that has been a main topic of discussion is whether or not what the British did - stealing art and artifacts and keeping them - was right or wrong. Many objects in the collection of the British Museum were either stolen or the cheated away from people and cultures. There were some items that were on loan and then were given to the museum in exchange for money or an object in return which I thought was particularly interesting. Giving everything back to their original countries is not the right answer to me. If the Italians want their Parthenon back, that’s fine but wait until we recreate it in replicas. I think that each museum should have a Doryphoros. Knowledge should be shared and not hidden around the world where it is impossible to access. I wouldn’t ever travel to Africa to see the art but I will go intro the exhibitions on display and learn about what they have there while I am there to visit my Van Gogh. The artworks that are in the British Museum have changed the world because they were there. For better or worse but I’d like to think that art has helped us to see other cultures and to grow and think and as it stands, traveling all over the world is not possible for everyone to do but to go to a museum and to see what they value in others and in themselves is something we can’t just give up. I feel that returning the originals to countries is fair in the case that we can have a replica in its place. I’d love to be able to take a class of students to see The Starry Night as they learn about it.
After class, some friends and I wandered for a bit and came across a pink climbing glob where we took some photos then went inside a building and played Uno for a while before heading back. We stopped at a cool witch shop but it couldn’t have been real because there were no crystals. Then we had a big late lunch after a run to the market.
Then a friend and I joined another group to go to the Sky Garden. It was recommended as the best way to see the city and it was free. We tried to time it so we could be there right before sunset and get some awesome photos but the lady said we needed reservations so we quickly booked tickets for 10:15pm (an hour later). Then we hung out at a war memorial where we shared stories to kill the time.
Then we went back for our reservation and the lady rudely told us that what we booked was a consultation for a reservation at least 2 weeks out. So we left and tried to go home but ended up lost on the tube for an hour. Then we met Erik and his lovey girlfriend. Erik was drunk and asking everyone where they were from. Something about the trains is that no one talks and it’s really quiet so it was us and Erik talking and it turns out that he’s from Ireland, she’s from London, there was a man from South Africa, a family from Brazil then us from Florida, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota. Turns out we had the whole globe in one car and no idea until Erik had asked. Then his girlfriend helped us get to where we needed to be to get home.

‘Gold in the sea’: Brazil’s booming fish bladder trade
Amazon fishers are cashing in on a booming maw industry fuelled by Chinese demand, but the threat of overfishing looms.
[Image description: fishers unload yellow croaker in the fishing town of Vigia in the northeast of Para state, Brazil.]
It was 7am on a day in late October last year and Belem, a port city in northern Brazil lying on the edge of the Amazon rainforest and about 100km inland from the Atlantic Ocean, was already sweltering hot.
Belem’s Ver-o-Peso open-air market, one of the largest in Latin America, was starting to get crowded with customers who came to buy from the colourful tropical fruits, herbs and vegetables on offer. Nearby, on the river, was the fish market, housed in a 19th-century iron building with high ceilings. Fishmongers had set up fish caught in the Amazon River and the Atlantic, which arrived at dawn. The salty odour of fish – new and old – hung in the humid air. Rows of stalls displayed their wares while sellers skilfully gutted fish as they waited for customers, setting the bones and heads to one side.
While fish is not cheap in Para state, where Belem is the capital, for most people these days it is more affordable than red meat or chicken. The meat stands opposite the fish market are almost all closed, and those that remain get few customers.
“It’s like gold in the sea,” fishers we spoke to said of the yellow croaker.
Ajuruteua’s long, white beach, once packed with fishers using a traditional method to catch fish that involves setting up a trap using thin pieces of wood and snaring the catch when the tide goes out, is now almost empty, waiting for the city folks who come for the weekend. The method, called corrals, no longer works. Fewer fish now come close to shore and many residents have since turned to tourism. For those who still fish, but don’t have the money to invest in a bigger fishing boat or net, yellow croaker “gold” is out of reach.
For fishers on Brazil’s Amazon coast, catching yellow croaker fish maw for export has increasingly become a vital source of income. Some are making a fortune from organs that were previously discarded.
Yet, a lack of fishing regulation could mean that, like any gold rush, this boom could end.
