in the middle of nowhere.
ln x fem!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in which you get the wrong idea in the middle of nowhere, so lando finally pops the question.
hello again! two fics in three days, unhinged jas is back 🤭 right so anyways, here you go! i love this concept so much and i hope you do too, lemme know what you think!
this can absolutely count as part two to everything if you want it to!
songs to set the mood: green eyes::siena by nothing but thieves, fearless by taylor swift, white ferrari by frank ocean, to love by suki waterhouse
warnings: 18+ minors dni! smut, angst for a sec, fluff, bit of choking, reader being stupid, lando also being stupid, then being so sickeningly in love, car sex hehe
2.1k words
the proposal
lando could see it now, the picture clear in his mind. the lines of your dress, clean and white. a veil that flowed, lacy and intricate. your eyes meeting his as you ascended towards him, ready to be bound together in life and love by two silver bands.
all you had to do was say yes. all he had to do was ask.
it was simple enough, getting down on one knee, bowing down before the woman he cherished with everything he had. the planning, however, that went into asking the question was eating him alive.
lando thought that he’d nailed it, finally landing on that one big idea that you’d remember for the rest of your lives. the perfect moment where he’d pledge to be yours forever.
little did he know that while the preparation was killing him slowly, it was also killing you.
-
the car ride was quiet.
lando tried to remain neutral, hiding his nerves and excitement. today was the day, you were en route to a small vineyard in the south of france. the drive from your monaco apartment wasn’t too far, but it was long enough for the pair of you to slip into silence. lando perceived it to be comfortable, glancing at you every now and then, noticing how you were taking in the countryside.
he tried not to concern himself over the way you were fiddling with your hair, chewing at your fingernails. you didn’t seem to notice the way he was watching you, eyes flirting between where you sat and the road ahead. he was more concerned by the dark cloud gathering ahead, but found some hope in the way the sunlight broke through, casting beams of light every which way.
the road was dead, not another car for miles. lando felt like you were the only two people in the world, manoeuvring the vintage lamborghini through the winding lanes, the overhanging trees casting curious shadows. it felt like a fairytale, until, of course, it didn’t.
“do you still love me, lando?” you choked out, finally turning to look at him.
lando slammed the brakes, hard. the way they screeched in protest told him that he’d be dropping a large sum into his mechanics bank account, but he couldn’t find an ounce of care, not when the woman he adored was asking such gut wrenching questions.
“what?” lando spat, delirious with confusion. his eyes were wide, wild with fear. “i- what?” he repeated himself, heart beating dangerously fast, and not in the usual way it did when you spoke.
“you just… are you breaking up with me?” your eyes were brimming with tears, lip quivering ever so slightly, but you stayed strong.
“are you serious?” lando was bewildered. “why would you think that?” he was wracking his brain for anything he’d done wrong.
“you’ve been so distant, at first i thought- well i don’t know what i thought, i just feel like you’re slipping away from me.” you sounded like the shell of your usual self, distraught in the face of it all ending. lando was too.
“baby, i’m so sorry. you’ve got it all wrong, i promise.” lando turned in his seat towards you, quickly checking his mirror as he did, safety first. he grabbed your hands, eyes meeting yours as he tried to convey reassurance.
“why have you been like this, then? have i done something wrong?” and so the troubleshooting began.
lando clenched his teeth, wondering how on earth he could explain his way out of this one without completely letting the cat out of the bag. it seemed that while he was planning perfection, he’d been neglecting you and he felt painfully stupid.
“i can’t… well, i can’t say.” lando replied, voice laced with hesitation. you frowned at his lack of explanation, head tilted in confusion.
“you can’t say? well that’s reassuring.” you bit back sarcastically. “if you don’t want me anymore, i’d rather you just tell me now.”
lando couldn’t believe what he was hearing. three years. three years you’d been together, and he was sure he’d loved you even longer. he was shocked that you thought that low of him, that he’d treat you so poorly, stringing you along. he could admit to himself that he’d made a bit of a mess of this, but he couldn’t accept that you thought he didn’t love you.
lando lived and breathed you.
“are you serious? you think i don’t want you?” his mind was moving a million miles an hour, and it spurred him on to make his next move. “get out the car.”
lando swung his door open, bounding round the door to open your door. there was a little velvet box burning a hole in his pocket, and he could feel it getting hotter with every stride he took. you stared at him dumbfounded when he took your hand, pulling you out of the car and into the road. you glanced around nervously, making sure you weren’t about to cause a car crash, but the coast was clear.
he pulled you into his chest, holding you close, eyes fixed on yours, his own a little teary now.
“you think i don’t want you? god.” lando sighed, shaking his head. one of his hands snaked down to his pocket. “you are the only person i will ever want. i didn’t want to do this here, had a whole plan and everything, but that means nothing to me if the woman i love thinks i don’t want her.”
his little speech had knocked the air out of you, and as he sunk down onto one knee, the colours of the sun hitting him so beautifully, you realised just how wrong you had been.
“baby, from the moment i met you, i knew. i knew you were gonna be my person, i just didn’t even imagine that you’d feel the same way. these years with you have been the best fucking years of my life, and i knew from the beginning that i wanted you by my side through it all.”
he was grinning up at you, a ball of nerves and curls, a few tears falling. you were a river, weeping over him, one hand clutching over your heart, the other fallen to your side.
“maybe i got it wrong, and i’m sorry. i’m so, so sorry. but i’m asking what i’ve wanted to ask for a ridiculously long time.” lando breathed. “will you marry me?”
you blinked, once, twice, choking out breaths between sobs. you dragged him up from the ground, kissing him with everything you had left. it was passionate, heavy with pent up emotion, and you never wanted to let him go. you cupped his face, keeping you together when you broke apart.
“yes, lando.” you whispered. “of course.” he slipped the ring onto your finger, a perfect, effortless fit, and then you were kissing him again, as close as could be, his hands all over you.
that’s when you felt the first drops of rain, the clouds finally breaking, just as they’d been threatening to all day.
“oh, fuck.” lando muttered, ready to pull you back to the car, but you wanted this moment to last.
“it doesn’t matter.” you said, letting the droplets coat your flushed skin. lando just smiled, relief washing over him like the rain.
you were engaged. fuck the rain.
and so, there you were, getting your very own movie moment, kissing in the rain with the love of your life, your fiancé, the man you would spend the rest of your life with. the sun still broke through the clouds, bathing you in light as the rain splattered against the damp ground. the leaves of the trees seemed to glisten, water droplets casting twinkles like fairy lights all around you. somehow, after everything, it was perfect. more perfect that anything you could have asked for, and, as bittersweet as it was to admit it, better than anything lando could have planned.
you threw your head back, staring up at the sky. lando leant forward, kissing over your exposed neck, and you hummed in delight. his lips worked their way up until they were ghosting over the shell of your ear.
“i love you. i will always love you.” lando whispered, and you melted into his hands that had a firm grip on your waist.
you shared a look, every worry dissipated, and you saw your life together, right there in his eyes. a flower littered aisle, him in a sleek black suit, his eyes meeting yours from the other side of the room. and then he was kissing you again and you felt the cool, damp metal of his car against your skin. your mind was full of houses in the country, white bedsheets, children playing in a garden. dinners by a fireplace and maybe a dog. but everything you saw slipped away until the only thing that remained was lando, right here, right now.
he was all over you, wet curls trickling cold water over you, sending a shiver down your spine. you grabbed at his shoulders, pulling at his soaked shirt, the white material translucent from the weather. it clung to him deliciously as you ran your hands over the linen.
“get in the car.” he groaned, sliding the material of your skirt up your legs. you complied instantly, turning to climb into your seat, when he stopped you. “no, honey. on my lap.” he smiled mischievously as he slid into the passenger seat and you quickly followed clambering onto his lap.
lando pulled your left hand up, so that it was resting over his heart. you finally had a chance to properly take in the ring, breathtaking as it was. it was an emerald cut diamond, simple yet elegant, exactly what you’d always envisioned.
“you see that? every time you look at this ring i want you to remember that i will always be yours. okay?” his voice had dropped, making the moment you were in even more intimate.
“okay.” you whispered, and his hand trailed lower, slipping under the hem of your ridden up dress. the other went to your neck, fingers gripping softly at the base of your throat.
“you thought i didn’t want you?” his grip tightened, your eyes wide in awe, fixed on his, murky blue green waters turned dark. “silly girl.” and then his other hand found your underwear, tugging it to the side.
lando moaned when he felt how wet you were, dripping all over his fingers, nice and ready for him. he worked through your folds, applying a firm, slow pressure to your clit. your mouth hung open, eyes fluttering shut from the pleasure, but the way his hand closed around your neck had you staring back at him again.
“i need you.” you whimpered, your own smaller hands gripping at his wrist, pushing him further into your delicate neck, rolling your hips against where his hand worked against your soft flesh.
“don’t doubt me anymore, do you? not when i’m the only one who can make you feel like this?” lando teased, and your stomach tightened, clamping down on the two fingers he’d slipped inside you.
“no,” you whined. “only you, lando.” and that was enough convincing for him.
he held you up, just enough to free himself from his jeans and boxers, and you gripped his shoulders, clawing at him as you sunk down on his length. the rain fell harder, condensation gathering on the windows as you ground down on him, meeting his thrusts. tears pricked your eyes; he felt so good, fit you like a missing puzzle piece, and you’d doubted him. you knew, in that moment, that you’d never do such a thing again.
moans were shared between you in unison, your foreheads pressed together as you both got closer and closer, the tight space intensifying the desperation to meet your end. his hands were firm on your hips, his body tight underneath your hands. you couldn’t keep the pace, thighs aching where you were straddling him, and he quickly took charge. your head fell to his shoulder, panting into his ear as he gave you everything, putting everything he had into the final few thrusts.
you laid against his chest in silence after, the sunset casting pinks and purples over the car. you grinned lazily, exhausted, your heart fuller than ever before.
“i’m sorry i doubted you.” you mumbled into his neck, nosing at his stubbled jaw.
“i’m sorry i made you doubt me.” he responded, stroking your hair, squeezing you tighter for a second.
“i can’t wait to marry you, lando.” you kissed his jaw, sitting up to smile at him. your hands looped around his neck, twisting his curls around your fingers.
“my wife.” lando chuckled, shaking his head in disbelief. “let’s get you home, hm?”
“please.” you crooned. “i’m sure you need to tell max that you finally asked me, huh?”
“you know me too well.”

So I am still a very very very new weaver and things don't always turn out how I want. This was my first attempt at "overshot", a weave structure which is meant to have a soft thick weft making fancy patterns over and under a square plain weave background, and it was awful! I got the plain weave maths wrong so it isn't square to begin with, and I got the yarns wrong so despite the coloured cotton being twice as thick as the white cotton it didn't cover it up at all. I hated it!
Tried again with half as many plain weave weft shots, to force the colour to be a little denser even though the plain weave was much further off square, and I still hated it and also it was really hard to keep track of the pattern.
And then something on the loom came loose so I couldn't weave at all and I was so disheartened and also I couldn't figure out what was wrong so I pretended the loom didn't exist for like 2 weeks. It was the brake tension screw and it's fine but for a long time I couldn't even face troubleshooting it. Also I made this warp quite wide which was A Choice(TM) for my first attempt at a new technique and it just made all the fixing harder.
Anyway, problem fixed and I made yet another attempt, this time doubling the weft. And it's working! We're finally getting some solid patterns! It's not perfect but it's workable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In theory, those ovals were meant to be circles. So after working 1 full motif I started afresh yet again and shortened the pattern a bit. Switched to purple because I was concerned about using up so much pink on these samples.
Tumblr media
And!!! It's okay! It's not everything I had hoped for but it's alright to look at and it's alright to weave. So finally, FINALLY I moved on with the rainbow instead of restarting again.
Tumblr media
Still experimenting with the pattern a bit, so this particular tea towel won't quite have even stripes, but I like it more and more as I go. It only took like a week of warping and two weeks of suffering and a week of slowly facing the pain and shame. Next project will be anything but overshot, but he only way out is through.
Onwards!

S8 opening disaster predictions
I was patiently waiting for more bts material before making my predictions, but due to recent events, it seems like we're not going to get much more before the premiere, so here goes nothing, I'm making wild guesses out of what we've got so far. (No, we're not going to Oz.)
Bees
We've all seen the constant reference to bees in promos, the latest official teaser seems to indicate a bee-nado as well. I don't think it's an actual tornado with bees in it, or even a The Swarm style large scale bee disaster. In that film the bees crash 2 military helicopters, derail a train and contribute to a nuclear meltdown. I don't think ABC would greenlight The Swarm parody or an actual bee-tornado, especially after how widely mocked Lone Star was for that frozen man CPR scene.
I can see it being a severe bee infestation with multiple bee sting emergencies. Whenever a swamp of bees is reported by media, it's often described as... you've guessed it, a bee tornado. I can totally see the 118 dealing with bee attacks in 8x01.
Tumblr media
I can't think of how the bees alone would be a major disaster though. A couple unfortunate people might get stung by a swamp, some more unlucky firefighters might have to fight through the bees to get to the patient, but it's hardly a city-wide catastrophe. I highly doubt the opening disaster is just about the bees.
Plane
I've already written why I think S8's big disaster would be aviation related, judging by the few photos and clips uploaded by the crew.
Every international airport in the US is required to have enough resources to deal with regular aviation incidents like bird strikes, hot brakes, engine failures, minor runway excursions, etc. There must be a very real possibility of a catastrophic mass casualty event for the fire department to send in engines from outside the airport for support.
The emergency vehicles we see in the hangar seem to be parked neatly in rows, so I don't think it's the case of a plane rapidly dropping out of the sky, looking for a place to land as soon as possible, or a sudden accident happening within the vicinity of the airfield. Emergency services have already been notified before the aircraft's arrival, so the trucks are just waiting on the side.
One real life example I can think of that matches these 2 conditions would be JetBlue Flight 292 in 2005. The A320 was flying from Burbank to New York when the pilots realized they couldn't retract the landing gear after takeoff. The crew tried troubleshooting while hand-flying the plane in a holding pattern (the stuck gear prevented the autopilot and the auto-throttle from engaging) to no avail, so they decided to divert to Long Beach and suggested doing a low fly-by for airport officials to assess the damage to the landing gear before attempting to land. It was reported back that the nose gear of the A320 was rotated 90° to the left, meaning it was completely perpendicular to the direction of the fuselage.
Tumblr media
In the case of unsafe landing gear, pilots would usually attempt a gear up belly landing instead, as most modern airliners are designed to handle that. Since the nose gear was sideways in this case, retracting it was not possible, so the pilots decided to hold over the city for more than 2 hours in order to burn fuel (A320s can't dump fuel), then attempt to land at LAX, since its runways are longer and wider.
The LAFD mobilized over 100 firefighters all across the city to the airport and positioned them at different locations along the runway on standby. On the other hand, news stations sent out flocks of helicopters to broadcast the whole incident live on TV. Not only their loved ones at home, but the passengers themselves could utilize the in-flight entertainment system to tune in and witness the very plane they were on circling over LA, with aviation experts on air discussing the potential disastrous scenarios they might encounter.
At around 18:00, the flight crew turned off the in-flight entertainment system and gave the passengers a few minutes to call their loved ones. After that, the plane successfully landed at LAX with 1000 feet of runway to spare. No one was injured.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is what's left of the nose gear wheels.
I'm not saying it will be exactly like this incident, but a major mechanical failure that hinders an aircraft's ability to land safely would fit the most.
Prisoner
Apparently Athena will be on a flight escorting a prisoner in 8x02, at least according to that person working at ONT who posted the photo with Angela on reddit. Naturally, some theorized that the prison would have something to do with the plane going down. I've seen nothing to disprove this theory so far, so it's absolutely a possibility. Although, that would make it the second time in a row a sort of transport vessel with Athena in it runs into a disaster caused by criminal sabotage. It's predictable and repetitive. I also haven't seen in bts stuff the amount of cops required for a hijacking scenario.
What I've noticed from crew photos is that the plane outside of the hangar during filming is a Boeing aircraft, while the cockpit we see earlier at the studio is an Airbus. If there are indeed two different airplanes involved in 8x02, then I can see maybe an impending emergency landing shutting down the airport, the prisoner being stuck inside of a plane on the ground decides to open an emergency exit and makes a run for it. Athena tracking down the prisoner would be the B-plot or something I don't know. I have 0 evidence to back it up, it's just a wild guess.
Sankes Bees on a plane?
Bees swarm airplanes all the time, but getting inside is a different story.
It's kind of hard to miss a swarm of buzzing bees inside an airplane. After pre-flight inspections by technicians and the flight crew, security checks by the cabin crew, the time it takes for the passengers to embark and the baggage to be loaded. then pushing back and taxiing, if a swarm of bees somehow still goes unnoticed, I guess everyone has to be blind and deaf.
Also, if the nature of the disaster is merely a bunch of angry bees attacking people on a plane, it would be quite boring? It would just be a lot of first responders triaging people and applying first aid.
What if the the bees are in the cockpit and the pilots are stung? Well, do both of them just happen to be allergic to bees at the same time? If so, I can maybe see a passenger onboard having to land the plane listening to instructions from the ground. I say 80% chance it'll end badly, thus needing fire rescue. But still, it's a very improbable scenario that requires way to many coincidences.
Bee strike
Airplanes accidentally hit wildlife in the air all the time, the most common one is bird strike, but there have also been locust strike, bat strike, even fish strike.
A swarm of bees is not like a flock of geese, bees don't have bones and are much lighter in mass, so while they can still cause some minor damages to the engine(s), it's usually not a big deal. The leftover bee goo on the windshield might affect visibility, but modern airliners have so many automated systems and navigational aid in place that they can pretty much land in 0 visibility.
So the bees have nothing to do with the plane?
Not exactly, bees and wasps are actually a serious hazard to aviation safety, but not in the way you would think.
Some species of bees and wasps like to build their nests in small, exposed cavities belonging to an aircraft, especially the pitot tubes.
Tumblr media
A pitot tube is a crucial instrument on the fuselage of an aircraft that measures its airspeed. If it becomes clogged by foreign objects, in this bees, wasps and/or their nest, the pilots would be left with unreliable airspeed indications. If they unknowingly fly too slow, the plane risks stalling and crashing, like Birgenair Flight 301 in 1996. Air France Flight 447 also stalled and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean due to blocked pitot tubes, but this time not caused by insects, they were blocked by icing.
Brisbane Airport in Australia struggles with wasps infestation particularly badly. In 2013, some mud daubers managed to clog the pitot tubes on an Etihad A330 in under 2 hours, resulting in an overweight emergency landing. For that, airport authority recommended the use of pitot tube covers for aircrafts on the ground, but that causes a whole new problem.
Tumblr media
Although the pitot tube covers are big red things with "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" written on them, ground crews forgot to remove them before pushing back... twice! The 2022 incident was luckily caught just in time by a refueller nearby, but in 2018, the Malaysian Airlines A330 actually took off with all 3 pitot tube covers still on and the flight crew had to circle back to the airport with no airspeed indications.
While pitot tubes seem to be the most popular among bees and wasps, there have been cases of other openings on an aircraft being blocked by wasps. This Gulfstream business jet had its cabin pressurization relief valve clogged by dried dirt from a mud dauber, leading to a cabin over-pressurization event.
There shouldn't be a catastrophic crash because of unreliable airspeed if the pilots are well trained, but I can imagine a TV show finding some even more crucial flight instruments to be clogged by bees.
Bees as indirect contributors
Of course it can also be the case of bees just happen to sting the one person keeping the aircraft safe. Maybe bees distracted a small aircraft or drone pilot, causing a midair collision.
Or it could be an important airplane mechanic missing work to recover from bee stings. Just last week, an article was published on the Seattle Times detailing the timeline leading up to the Alaska Airlines 737 Max 9 door plug blowout incident. It was revealed that there was basically only one single mechanic who would work on door plugs. On the 2 days when the door plug in question had to be opened and closed back up to replace damaged rivets, the mechanic happened to be on vacation. His replacement, a young trainee, had no idea what they were doing, and the 737 with a ticking time bomb of a door plug rolled straight out of the shop.
Tumblr media
Aviation experts have commented that if the door plug exited the aircraft at a higher altitude, the result would be much more catastrophic: some parts in the cabin could be ripped off, objects would fly out of the plane and possibly ingested into the engine, and if the plane hit cruising altitude, unbuckled passengers and flight attendants up and walking around the cabin would be sucked right out.
Tommy's role in this disaster
The 217 truck is right there next to the 118 one, so Tommy's house is definitely involved. It probably happens at the airport where the 217 is located as well. We've already seen Tommy working on the ground in 7x06, he'll be needed in this kind of all hands on deck situation at his station's airport too.
Tumblr media
He could also be airlifting seriously injured patients to the hospital. One service Air Ops provide that is often overlooked, is VIP transport. Tommy may be asked to fly higher ups of the fire department around the airport to assess the situation. LAFD helicopters were deployed for the JetBlue 292 incident in fact.
*Whisper*
There’s also a chance that Tommy’s helicopter will crash. One crashed in New York back in July because its fuel vent was clogged by a wasp nest.🫣
But I hope not, not so soon. Let me see them be cute and sweet for a while first, that’ll make the angst more delicious.
Conclusion
My predictions are probably super wrong, I don't have a lot to work with, so take them with a grain of salt, maybe think of this as simply a fun read about planes. These all are about as accurate as the Wizard of Oz theory, only I didn't grow up watching classic fantasy musical like a normal person, I watched all 24 seasons of Mayday.
I guess we'll find out in a month.

Random post, but I kept thinking how JO each of them seem very different kind of smart? If that makes sense.. I tried to brake it down by person:
Bojan - conventional smartness: can study well, knows languages, respects elders and likes to be polite, A+ student. But it would be easy to scam him (he's already losing things on his own).
Kris - organizational/manager smartness: can see big picture and troubleshoot on the spot, detailed planner. Also probs believes in tough love: "don't be a bitch, just work hard if you want results" type. But doesn't understand why someone would get upset if what he said was true.
Nace - moral/mediator smartness: has very strong emotional core that many people unfortunately lack, and doesn't fall into prejudice. Observes everything very well and with honest openmindedness. But if something went wrong, would probably judge himself first.
Jan - Jan is this internet quote...
Tumblr media
He's crisis smart - instead of how others panic and then try to look at things from perspective, Jan really really doesn't want to waste energy so he'll panic only when absolutely necessary. Which is never. Very calming to have around, but sometimes he'd laugh at something and would be too lazy to explain what was funny.
Jure - Social smartness. I honestly don't know why but Jure strikes me as the overall smartest of the group. I have absolutely no evidence why. Like, he likes mischief but would never cross any boundaries. And if things would really go down bad, he'd see that before it blows up and would warn everyone. You know how cats can sense an earthquake few minutes before it actually happens? Something like that. The only "but" for Jure is that he'd probably would wonder off into the fields when he gets too tired of people without telling anyone, exactly like a cat.
Anyway, might be why they're so successful - all kind of smarts in one band 🧠 ( next time: a study on what type of dumb they are)
Bonus: Jere is intuition smart. His intuition works so well that he doesn't need brain.

highlights from ruth buscombe's podcast interview (or, views from a strategist baddie on the track)
listened to the ruth buscombe - the former ferrari, haas and sauber strategist - pitstop podcast over lunch and intended to make only a few notes, but she’s so sharp and funny that i ended up scribbling loads. anyway, enjoy:
youtube
ruth’s on gardening leave atm (hasn’t said where she’s going yet. peep the quadrant hoodie tho...). they have long gardening leave because strategists and engineers have so much proprietary info on the cars, they’re usually allowed at least a year to wait it out so they don’t (in theory) bring the intel with them
ruth worked with the FIA to build and simulate where the DRS zones should be because DRS used to be a free for all across the whole track. crazy to imagine huh
on planning for a race vs being reactive: if other teams make a “wrong” strategy in a race or something unexpected like change their number of pitstops, you’d have to be fluid in responding to that or it fucks your race too. she used daniel in shanghai (?) one year as an example
ruth was with seb for his first ferrari win!! legend. there were a number of personnel changes when he arrived and then she was “left holding the strategy baby [for that race] and i was like — okay!” lol. “this was after 2014 a winless season and you don’t want that because you bring shame upon the whole of italy”. aksjsksks.
kinda wild tho. ruth called for the two stop in sepang that resulted in seb’s race win and was 25 when this happened. making the calls like that is so impressive
on vegas: the maths of poker is the same as the maths of strategy (what!!!!! incredible)
she worked with charles and says he’s a very genuine guy, and very talented obviously
they ask her about the lewis ferrari signing and she drops the lore that lewis had actually been in talks with them ages ago, before the merc era. “maybe this [urge] has always been there”.
she was a DIEHARD mclaren fan and went to the ferrari job interview as practice but ended up saying yes to ferrari 💀💀 “ferrari carbed and ice creamed their way to my heart. and they showed me the factory bits you don’t normally see” she’s so real. “i went to ferrari for the interview and then mclaren. like the old grey mclaren not the cool one now. people thought something was wrong with me cus i grew up loving mclaren and then i was going to work at ferrari” AHHAHAKSKSKKSKS
kind of hilariously, she gets motion sickness from watching and monitoring the sim side of the engineering, which is kinda why she switched to the strategy side. the switch happened after one of the races with nando and massa, she proposed unsealing a gearbox on one of the cars, a legal thing, and it got the team a good result so that was history

all the sacrifice is for race day because it’s such a punishing career travel and time-wise. “if you do not see pressure as a privilege this is probably not the job for you”
on diversity: there’s a study from before liberty media’s takeover that said “the average f1 fan is a 53 year old white male blue collar worker who lived in coventry”. and now there’s a much wider range of fans. and also directly references lewis’s mission 44 as helping to broaden reach.

random but: “the first time ross brawn sent me an email i printed it out. best. day. of my life.” 😂
on strategy calls and being able to adapt for different tracks: “as a strategist you do not want to be a one trick pony. you want like. a whole field of ponies”

It's been a long time since Xdinary Heroes participated in a festival event. After putting so much focus on their Break the Brake World Tour and their recently-released Troubleshooting album, they finally went back to participate in a festival concert show and this time, it is in Kyung Hee University.
It's good to see Xdinary Heroes doing this again. It's good to know that despite their popularity now, they can still squeeze in such engagements on their quite busy schedule. It's a relief to be able to realize that our OT6 still has their feet rooted to the ground. And for a Villain, there's enough reason to feel so proud of EXDIZ.

Xdinary Heroes's Discography
Tumblr media
Hello Fishies!! Today is one of my favorite bands : Xdinary Hereos. I love their music so much, and with the music I normally listen to in Kpop, they are like a refreshing glass of lemonade.
Disclaimer!! This is purely my opinion. If you disagree, that's fin, but be respectful. We all have our own taste, and we cannot fault each other for that.
Now with that out of the way, let's go!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If I had to give their Korean title tracks a rank it would be :
1.Break The Brake 2.Little Things 3.Test Me 4.Freakin' Bad 5.Haircut 6.Happy Death Day
When the first second of Break The Brake came on, I knew it was my favorite title track. It's like perfect and I will never not think it's one of the best songs released in 2023. Y'all do not come for me. Happy Death Day had me in a chokehold when it first came out. But as time has passed and they released more music, it sadly became the last on the list. I will say however that HDD being last on the list just shows how flawless their titles are.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If I had to give their Korean albums an overall rank it would be :
1.Hello, World! 2.Livelock 3.Deadlock 4.Troubleshooting 5.Overload
Ever since it's release, Hello,Word! has ALWAYS been a favorite of me from the group and in general. I personally believe it was the best album of 2022. Every single song hits just as much as the first listen and every listen after that. I could go on forever about my love for this album. While I think every album is amazing, one had to be last, and that sadly was Overload. There's nothing wrong with this album, I love it so much, I just find myself going to it the least out of all their albums.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My favorite song from each album :
Hello, World! Strawberry Cake - It's just so perfect and one of my fav Bsides in general.
Overload Zzz.. - She's just so fun and unserious. I love it so much
Deadlock Good Enough - It hits me in the gut so fucking hard.
Livelock PLUTO - I felt like I was floating on another planet the first time I heard it.
Troubleshooting Money On My Mind - I don't see enough of y'all talking about her. She is it. One of their best songs.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just a couple extra things :
My least favorite song is Ghost. I have nothing against her. If it's is my least favorite, again, that's saying how good of a discography they have to me.
A song I wish I could hear again for the time is KNOCK DOWN. Specifically Gunil's bride on to the end.
Song Recs : LUNATIC Dear.H Paranoid Night of Fireworks
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you so much if you made it to the end!! I hope this was a fun little read for you and I hope you stick around ≧◡≦

In the intricate world of automotive maintenance and repair, two essential components stand out as the keys to unlocking automotive expertise: understanding car parts and having access to reliable mechanic guides. Whether you're an amateur car enthusiast or a seasoned mechanic, the knowledge of your vehicle's components and the guidance provided by mechanic manuals are indispensable. This article explores the importance of knowing your car inside and out and the vital role played by best oil in ensuring efficient maintenance and repairs.
Deconstructing the Car's Anatomy: To navigate the realm of car maintenance effectively, one must first unravel the complex anatomy of an automobile. This knowledge empowers car owners to make informed decisions and maintain control over their automotive investments.
Safety and Peace of Mind: Beyond financial considerations, understanding car parts and having access to reliable mechanic guides contribute to safety and peace of mind. A well-maintained vehicle is less likely to experience sudden breakdowns, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring that drivers and passengers reach their destinations safely. Furthermore, knowledge of car parts enables individuals to identify potential issues early, preventing minor concerns from escalating into major problems while on the road.
Environmental Responsibility: In an age of growing environmental awareness, proficiency in car parts knowledge can also lead to more eco-friendly choices. Understanding your vehicle's intricacies allows you to make informed decisions about maintenance and upgrades that can improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. This not only benefits the environment but also lowers fuel costs and minimizes your carbon footprint, aligning your automotive choices with a more sustainable future.
In conclusion, car parts knowledge and mechanic guides are the cornerstones of automotive expertise. Whether you're driven by the desire to save money, enhance safety, reduce your environmental impact, or simply gain a deeper understanding of your vehicle, these resources empower you to make informed decisions and embark on a journey of automotive mastery. So, the next time you encounter a mysterious noise under the hood or a warning light on your dashboard, remember that with the right knowledge and guidance, the road ahead is paved with confidence and automotive proficiency.

Is it ever difficult for you to know when you're describing too much for a scene or when you need to stop?
hmm you know, not anymore? which feels weird to say because that used to be something i would AGONIZE about, but on reflection with like bitter snow (which, sidebar, creative drought notwithstanding i am still working on) it… really hasn’t been. like the question itself of if something is too much or too little these days is more on the level of fiddling with sentence structure or word choice in that it’s something i do in revision, and making the decision to pare back or lengthen has become fairly intuitive and painless.
and i think that’s probably just down to practice. i’m 29. i started writing novel-length fiction when i was 14 and have been writing basically all the time since then; even when stalled out on long term WIPs (like now) i write a lot, in the form of scraps of scenes or dialogue or character studies or fictional lore and so forth. so i am, i think, at a point where certain things are starting to gel because i’ve got a pretty solid grasp of what i like and how i want my prose to feel and also the skill to Make That Happen.
pacing—fundamentally description that is too long or not long enough is a pacing concern—depends a lot on tone and style. for example: pratchett. the discworld series takes a very minimalistic, snappy approach to description (a LOT of scenes are almost pure dialogue!) but still feels vivid and grounded in its setting because the descriptive voice is so strong; it’s awesome and a joy to read and also a style that absolutely does not work for me because i HATE writing it. (mimicking the styles of other writers is a valuable exercise for the same reason that doing studies is a valuable exercise for artists.)
i think that’s a crucial thing to realize. the right answer for one writer—even a writer whose stories you really like and whose craft you really admire—might be the wrong answer for you, and to a certain extent figuring this stuff out is about developing your own style and having confidence in that. and i also think that if you find yourself getting hung up on questions like “is this too much?” and “where do i stop?” on a regular basis, it might be helpful to start picking apart WHEN and WHY those questions occur, because it might be that you’ve hit the natural end point of a passage or scene and the doubts are happening because you’re second-guessing yourself and trying to keep writing beyond that point. or maybe it’s arising from insecurity and you’re trying to pump the brakes too early because you don’t trust yourself to know when enough is enough. or maybe it’s more granular, like a habit of repeating the same idea in different ways or letting scenes just kind of trail off instead of ending. when something feels like it isn’t working the best thing you can do for yourself as a writer is to pin down WHY, because from there it’s just troubleshooting.

Considering a career as a Wind Turbine Technician
If you're considering becoming a wind turbine technician, there are a few things you should know before jumping into this career path. Here are some key points to keep in mind:
Education and training: To become a wind turbine technician, you generally need a high school diploma or GED certificate and either technical school certification or an associate's degree in wind turbine technology [1]. You can also train on the job, but having some formal education and training can give you a leg up in the field.
Job outlook: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of wind turbine technicians is projected to grow 44 percent from 2021 to 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations. About 1,900 openings for wind turbine technicians are projected each year, on average, over the decade [2]. This means that there will likely be plenty of job opportunities in the field.
Salary: Earnings for wind turbine technicians can vary depending on location, employer, and experience. According to the BLS, wind turbine technicians earned a median annual salary of more than $61,000 in 2022 6].
Job duties: Wind turbine technicians are responsible for performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting problems, and dealing with urgent issues on the three primary parts of a turbine - the tower, the blades, and the nacelle, composed of the generator, gearbox, and brakes [11]. The role can be physically demanding and may require working outdoors in harsh weather conditions [4].
Skills needed: Wind turbine technicians need to be able to identify and solve problems quickly and efficiently [5]. They should also be comfortable using hand and power tools, as well as computer equipment, to fix and maintain turbines [16]. Safety is also a critical aspect of the job, so wind turbine techs should be familiar with safety procedures and comfortable climbing up to 300 feet in the air [16].
Overall, the field of wind turbine technology offers promising job prospects and the opportunity to work in a hands-on environment that contributes to ecological health. It can be physically demanding, and you'll need to be comfortable working outdoors and at heights, but the rewards can be significant. Electrical engineer with experience in designing wiring systems for trucks (and similar applications) here.
Look, I loathe Elon Musk as much as the rest of y’all, and I think the Cybertruck is an ugly-ass shitshow with an assortment of other problems, but the information here is isn’t really accurate to how this system works. Which isn’t surprising, considering that cybrtrkguy seems to be completely misunderstanding the way this whole thing gets wired up.
A typical motor vehicle has a central controller. Everything else gets fed back to it through wires that are usually bundled into harnesses depending on what part of the vehicle it’s coming from. For example, your brake lights, backup camera, rear blinkers, and everything else on the back of your car will have its wiring sent back through a harness all the way to the front of the car, where the aforementioned controller is. (It’s actually a bit more complicated than that, but that’s the basic idea.)
For the Cybertruck, Tesla replaced the main controller with a network of smaller, localized controllers; with a main harness to facilitate communication between the controllers (and, of course, send power to the local controllers/distribution boxes to distribute as needed).
As someone who’s had to design, work on, and troubleshoot electrical systems for vehicles and larger diesel engine-based power systems…this isn’t a terrible idea; in fact, I can see the appeal of it. In addition to the cost savings that comes from reducing the amount of wiring needed to make the truck work, they’ve also made it so that any problems that arise are localized - that is, if something goes wrong with the components in your passenger-side door, all of the reworking and rewiring will take place inside the door itself. There’s no need to have to trace wires all the way to the front of the truck, get under the hood, pull panels off the dashboard, etc.; all the work you’re doing is in one place. I would think that, for similar reasons, manufacturing would be simpler. (Ironically, the criticism of this system having a single point of failure is backwards - by spreading control of individual systems across multiple networked controllers, they’ve spread out the possible points of failure.)
Granted, I still think the Cybertruck is a dumpster fire, but not because of the wiring.
