Set breakdown time! Next up: Tragic Mick's shop.
As before, I've circled the points of interest and numbered them to make them easier to talk about. Cool? Cool. Let's do this!
1: Individually labeled... paper goods? Packets? It's hard to see what these are, but they seem to be priced per item. One is 3 for [off screen]. One is $5.25. If anyone can read more of these, please feel free to chime in!
2: Drawers full of spell components. I can't read them all, but three of them seem to be Whiskers, Vertebrae, and Bezoars.
3: An alarm clock.
4: An array of playing cards.
5: A wall phone.
6: Paper currency. Antique, maybe? It doesn't seem to be designs currently in rotation.
7: A miniature coffin. Incredible.
8: A random mushroom just hanging out on the shelf.
9: An antique-style ceramic phrenology brain map.
10: Some sort of taxidermied animal in a jar.
11: Various dried botanicals.
12: Looks like more spell components.
13: Individually labeled drawers. I can make out: Crow's Feet, Pigeon Brains, Chicken Eyes, Pigeon Eyes. If anyone can read more of these, please feel free to chime in!
14:  A bunch of little drawers.
15: A collection of lanterns.
16: A pair of rabbit statues.
17: Looks like another set of labeled drawers, but I'm not able to make out any of the writing. If anyone can read these, please feel free to chime in!
18: The music box they use to calm the sea monster.
19: A typewriter.
20: The cursed sheet music that calls evils seagulls.
21: A collection of mirrors.
22: Some sort of taxidermy creature. It looks vaguely like the Fiji mermaid and similar fake taxidermy mermaids that used to be put on display to draw an audience.
23: More jars of spell components.
24: An old-fashioned cash register.
25: A statue of what looks to be a Bodhisattva.
26: A bell.
27: A whole lot of books.
28: A mantlepiece clock.
29: A barometer.
30: Is... is this mannequin gradually breaking out of its bindings as the series goes on?? How did I not notice this before this very moment??
31: An assortment of lamps.
32: An antique telephone.
33: The token Mick gives to Niko, a bear of carved out of some sort of dark stone.
34: An array of what look like wood-carving tools.
35: And last but certainly not least… Mick's lunch, which seems to be an entire fish on a piece of toast. Incredible. I wish him the best of it.

I think you should make Farena and Malleus meet again just to humble Leona a lil’ 😜 think you did a birthday thing where that happened and I want more lmao
Anon is referencing this set of interactions (for Leona’s birthday in 2021): Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3
*rubs hands together* 😈 Time to bust out L*ona's sexy hot brain calls for this... HELP ME I'M SO OJITANPILLED RIGHT NOW
Family means Nobody is Left Behind or Forgotten.
Tumblr media
"Kingscholar."
"Lizard."
The Botanical Garden's flora shuddered as the two princes--lion and dragon--regarded each other. They stood several paces apart, Malleus upon a small bridge over an artificial waterway, Leona shrouded in the shadows of wide palm leaves. Combined, their auras were overwhelming, filling the air with a crackling tension like that of wild sparks of electricity.
"Leona? Who is..."
A third figure, one half hidden by foliage, peered out at Malleus. His hair was a fiery red-range mane, his eyes a deep brown, skin the color of chestnuts under golden robes threaded with prancing animals. Everything about the man radiated warmth, as though he were the living embodiment of the sun.
Malleus's lip curled. "It seems I'm disturbing your private forum. Forgive me, I will see myself out."
"Wait."
The red-haired man fully emerged. A pair of lion ears and a tail similar to Leona's came into view. He smiled broadly--and Leona visibly cringed.
"You are... my younger brother's friend, aren't you? The one who helped Cheka find his way when he was lost on campus. I remember your face from Leona's birthday party. I don't believe we had a chance to be properly introduced to one another! Leona was shy and steered us away from each other last time." He approached Malleus without hesitation and stuck out his hand. "Falena."
The fae prince tested the name. "You are the acting regent of Sunset Savanna. The elder Kingscholar."
"Haha, that's right! Leona told you about me, did he?"
"Yeah, keep dreaming," Leona snorted.
"... My, it would be rude of me to make my exit now." Placing one foot in front of the other, Malleus smoothly dipping into a bow. "Malleus Draconia."
"Draconia! As in, crown-prince-of-Briar-Valley Draconia?"
It took all of Leona's willpower not to roll his eyes. Anyone with half of a brain cell would instantly be able to clock this depressing guy's telltale horns.
"The very same."
The surprise that flooded Falena's face quickly dried, giving way to merry laughter. "Leona's got friends in such high places!"
A scoff.
"Would you listen to yourself? I keep hearing you repeat friend, friend, friend like a chattering parrot without one shred of evidence to suggest that would be the case." Leona rolled his shoulders and, smirking, languidly lifted a hand to Falena and Malleus. "To put me and the lizard on equal social standing is a little insulting, don't you think? We're on entirely different playing fields. Crown prince of Briar Valley and acting regent of Sunset Savanna... That sounds like a much better fit to me."
He internally ground his teeth.
Smile and bear with it, Leona coxed himself. You can't let this opportunity slip through the cracks. The chance to establish cordial relations with other countries doesn't come delivered to you on a silver platter every day. Get them to make that connection if it's the last thing you do. If you play your pieces right...
"... Hey, how is that irrigation project coming along?" Leona prodded his brother. "Last I heard on the news, there was a protest blocking construction."
Falena frowned--the first time that day. "It could be going better."
"Irrigation..." Malleus brought a finger to his chin. "You're in the process of constructing waterways?"
"Yeah, to channel water directly to crops," Leona snipped. "As one destined to ascend the throne, surely you're familiar with the concept."
"So it is akin to gargoyles."
"Oi, ain't no one here talkin' about gargoyles!"
"On the contrary, Kingscholar. Gargoyles were designed to redirect rainwater from buildings, thus protecting them from wear and tear. Irrigation systems exist to funnel water to desired areas. It is a similar enough concept."
Let him have this one. Keep the conversation moving!
"Most in our country walk a long way to the nearest source of water--a well or something--and draw buckets one by one, then walk back with it. Real inefficient." Leona dragged out a sigh. "Unfortunately, our people deeply cherish living in harmony with nature. They come out in droves to push against our attempts to improve their circumstances. It's a thorn in our sides."
"Now don't say it like that," Falena tutted. "We are the royal family. It falls to us to assuage our people of worry. If we expand slowly and in an environmentally conscious manner... I'm sure we can all come to an understanding."
"You'll have to excuse my brother. He's got a bleeding heart."
The comment rolled off of Malleus's back like rainwater.
"Hm..." He looked to be lost in thought, his lashes lowering. "I see. Implementation is never as easy as simply giving the order to act.
"I have visited Silk City on a trip with classmates. Their waterways are second to none in all of Twisted Wonderland. Though the climate is dry and sweltering, the children of man that reside there have managed to tame those waters and optimized them for trade.
"Such systems do not exist in my home of Briar Valley, so I cannot say I am familiar with them. We, too, as fae, revere Mother Nature. The last thing we would want is to turn our backs on her and destroy her blessings. However, I saw with my own eyes that those Silk City waterways have brought much prosperity to the people. Perhaps it would be prudent if you were to explain this to your countrymen, along with providing a detailed plan of how you do not intend to expand at the cost of ravaging nature."
"Exactly, exactly!!" Falena beamed, his face like the sun coming out after a storm. "You understand me so well, my friend."
"Friend...?" Malleus's eyes went wide. "Me?"
Checkmate.
"Oh, would you look at that," Leona purred sarcastically, "you've gone and earned my dear onii-sama's respect and admiration. How good for you."
"It sounds like we're birds of a feather, Malleus. From one prince to another... I think you've got a shining future ahead of you." Falena clapped his younger brother on the shoulder, earning a glare from him. "Just like Leona here!"
"This isn't about me," he hissed back. "This is between you and the lizard."
Falena blinked. "But weren't you the one to introduce us?"
"That he was," Malleus agreed with a chuckle. "Kingscholar has a talent for bringing together the most unlikely of people. It's something I've noticed about him."
"It's true, he does!!" Falena had his sibling by both shoulders now. And that massive grin--Oh no, Leona thought. He's switching from Useless King mode to Doting Older Brother mode! "Leona's so good with people! I had the chance to meet some of his dorm members earlier today--there's a variety of beastmen in his dorm, all united under him. That's really amazing!"
"Yes, it's impressive. I've heard that, among beastmen, traditions and beliefs are drastically different. It is a unique challenge to bring them together--yet Kingscholar achieves this flawlessly." Now it was Malleus's turn to smirk. "Fae are quite varied as well. It will soon be my responsibility to bring about that same unification. Fufufu... Mayhaps I should look to Kingscholar as an exemplar."
Leona directed his glare at Malleus. This scaly bastard...!
"No thanks. I want no part in that," he replied bluntly. "I should leave the ruling to you kings."
"Leona," Falena protested, "he's correct. If you were to lend your help, set an example... We could--" he stopped, correcting himself. "You could unite so many people. I know you could."
"This again," he spat, those few words coated with venom.
It always came back to that.
The promise of acceptance, respect. Rewards for all his efforts. A prize dangled before him, always snatched away at the last possible second.
"... I've said enough here."
Leona turned on his heel, shoving his hands into his pockets, and began strolling away. Deeper and deeper into the thicket. Ignoring his brother calling after him, the frantic footsteps following.
"Kingscholar."
There was an eruption of green light in Leona's path. When it dissipated, Malleus stood in front of him. He looked visibly displeased.
"Out of my way," Leona growled, attempting to step around him.
Another flash, and Malleus teleported himself in front of his fellow dorm leader once again. "You will not simply walk away from this," he warned.
"I can walk away whenever I like. You're the kings discussing your domains. This doesn't concern me."
"That is not what I meant." Malleus's brows drew together. "You will not simply walk away from family."
"What do you know about family?!" Leona snarled. "Don't act like you have any leg to stand on."
"You shall mourn that you did not cherish them once they are already lost to the abyss." His voice was dark, commanding. "You will hear what your brother has to say."
Leona held his stare--the danger in it, sharp as a blade. He glanced back, spotting Falena with his fiery hair amid the leaves and vines, as mournful as a kitten that had been left out in the rain.
There's no getting out of this. If I bust out my strongest magic here, the entire Botanical Garden is going to be sanded and I'll never hear the end of it from Crewel. Ugh, I've gotta opt for a tactical surrender.
Sending Malleus his most scathing look, he managed one final curse.
"Damn you, lizard."
Maybe he had been the one checkmated today.

The animators were Kurahi shippers and you can’t change my mind: exhibit A
Enthusiastic reading-too-much-Kurahi-but-not-really into the animation~
Tumblr media
From episodes 68 & 69, “Setting the Trap” and “The Power of Taboo”
So anyone creative that writes or draws or what have you can tell you that everything actually is intentional, and by that I mean, every word you pick to write and every design or illustration you make is a choice. We make choices, we decide, and then those things are up for interpretation.
All of that is to say: I think these animators were kurahi shippers or something man, there's an interesting visual in these two episodes that happens repeatedly. pls don’t judge me for my intense meta bullshit that’s about occur lol
When Kaito is about to take Hiei’s soul, he looks down at him, and we see a violet colored flash in his glasses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After he takes his soul, it’s encased in that same shade of purple. We know from earlier episodes and later on when their souls are returned that souls don’t have a color, they’re just white/translucent, so that means Kaito color-coded the souls by his own volition. Purple for Hiei, blue for Botan, and yellow for Kuwabara.
Tumblr media
What’s interesting is…this purple color/flashes of purple light don’t go away. They’re present during Kurama’s battle of wits with Kaito and their negotiation of the terms.
Now someone might say, “well Hiei’s soul is positioned on the rightmost side and the purple visually stands out better, it makes sense it would show, it doesn’t mean anything.” And perhaps they’re right, but I don’t think so.
Again, these things are intentional choices, regardless of whether or not what they mean is agreed upon. They chose to make Hiei’s that color, they chose to position it to the side, and they chose to use it for this visual effect.
Most important to note: this visual choice is only done for Hiei’s color, purple. There’s no ambient light in the room and it’s the exact same color, ergo very intentionally done. They don’t rotate between colors, they never show flashes of blue or yellow or all three—it’s only purple.
Tumblr media
⬆️ here for example. Arguably we should be able to see the blue and yellow reflected in his glasses, too. But we don’t. Just that fuchsia color. Just Hiei’s soul.
So what does it mean (to me)?
Tumblr media
I think it means that Hiei is most important to him, and somehow Kaito has clocked that. Hiei’s soul is the one reflected in Kaito’s glasses while they negotiate the rules of their game.
Tumblr media
And it’s only reflected/shown in his eyes when he’s looking at kurama (other than Hiei prior to the soul stealing!), not anywhere in the room, which is what makes me think that Kaito knows how significant the relationship between Kurama and Hiei is. He (literally in a visual sense) can see it. These flashes happen the most/almost exclusively during this scene—as if he’s dangling Hiei’s soul specifically to bait Kurama into playing his game.
Tumblr media
It’s symbolic of how meaningful the relationship is to him, because it’s shown like it’s the bargaining chip to make the game happen. When he taunts Kurama that he still hasn’t made his choice, the reflection is there again. The significance is only emphasized by the fact that it doesn’t happen with anyone else’s soul/color.
Additionally, I like that Kaito’s hand is hovering over Hiei’s soul when Kurama threatens to erase him from reality. I don’t think this is strong evidence or anything, but it compliments my theory here quite nicely lol.
Tumblr media
Bonus (aka this doesn’t really have evidentiary support but hey it rolls with this pretty well): look at how mad Kurama is after Hiei’s soul is taken. Angry husband.
Tumblr media
TLDR: they knew wtf they were doing with this man YOU CANT MAKE ME BELIEVE OTHERWISE

Hello beloved tuna 💚
How about a number 9 for the spotify wrapped?? (And if u feel like throwing any SEN guys in there I would simply love to see them)
Tumblr media
HI THEO. you can tell I've been listening/reading too much murderbot when I start writing in the cadence that freaking kevin r free uses to do the audiobooks. so here, have some SEN ranchers. this song is actually on the SEN ranchers playlist! so I drummed up a little something that I think takes place around that time, where tango is about to receive notice that he's to come back to the Prometheus
(794 words)
Jimmy feels the pressure of all his emotions in his chest like a bubble about to burst. He's made of complex metal lattice, wires and tiny fibers that move like muscle, tubes and chambers holding cooling fluids and lubricants, silicon that filled spaces left behind and protected the various moving parts, made up his skin filled with sensors. Still, the part of him that felt, that processed emotion in a way he wasn't sure he was supposed to, still created that sense of feeling in his chest, as if the air filters and chambers of fluid had seized up all at once and were grinding to start again.
It wasn't a bad feeling though. This one he liked. A lot. It was the closest he had felt to being real in a long time. But it sucked to know that he liked it, and that he only liked it because it made him feel present, because the present was a time in which he knew minutes were slipping through his hands in a way his internal clock couldn't properly count.
Way back, when Tango first arrived, almost three months ago, he had told Jimmy that he was only there for a month. The successes and failures of their botanical project had meant Tango had stayed longer. It had given them more than enough time to become friends, dissect the little things that made them something other than human, find a piece of each other within the parts most similar. It was odd. And good. And Jimmy liked the idea of being like someone, rather than so different from his shipmates.
Tango was in his room now—their room, maybe, if Jimmy were feeling brave. The thought of sharing, be that personal space, personal data, personal storage, memory, RAM, emotion, feeling, thought, was a thing that was equally as confusing as it was terrifying. Jimmy was made of emotion—concocted from a hacked emotional core that HASA allowed to be installed in him, and with no way of processing any of the emotion, to filter it through subroutines designed to handle it, to manage it, with the secondary buffer it was supposed to have, Jimmy had too many times fallen victim to its overwhelming charge of his system. So sharing that very large, very vulnerable part of him wasn’t something he thought Tango could handle. Tango simply wasn’t housing an emotional core. Sure, his processor was large, and the long-term storage he had was complex (and Jimmy would know, they’d both poked around in his code and parts as a fun side project, considering Tango had finally decided that Jimmy should simply upload the rest of his data into Tango’s memory in case their project ended early. Tango had been reluctant to do that when he first arrived—he was built to learn, not to just store and retrieve. But what was learning but storing and retrieving, Jimmy had argued, and by the time their three months were meeting a yet-unknown close, they’d gone and backed up the data into Tango’s skull, and looked for fun), but he didn’t have the emotional capacity Jimmy did. And maybe he wouldn’t for a long time.
But he’d let him in. Just like Tango had let Jimmy root around inside his code and trusted him not to delete something essential. And Jimmy hated the idea that he might be losing this soon. He’d overheard Fwhip at some point, talking low to Tango in the hallway. Something about callbacks and data transfers, names of admirals Jimmy had never heard of, but sounded important. He had meant to ask Tango, but had never summoned the strength or reason to do so.
Jimmy watches Tango out of the side of his vision. Tango stayed because he had something to do. Maybe if Jimmy sabotaged their data, Tango would stay. Maybe if he changed something, fixed part of the system but not another, took data into long-term storage where they couldn't access it. Whatever he could do. Tango would stay here. And he wouldn't be alone.
But he couldn't do that to Tango. Which is why this feeling hurts so much. He liked it, because it hurt. And he hated it, because it meant he was coming to terms with the idea that Tango was leaving.
Scott called it grief. Jimmy thinks that robots shouldn't have learned how to grieve. It made looking at his friend Tango that much harder. It made watching him try to laugh and smile that much more difficult. But tucked away in Jimmy's room, watching the display surface show reruns of media Jimmy had long since seen, Tango laughs, and Jimmy grins his way. He’s getting better at that—laughing. Jimmy likes it.
And maybe he likes grief. Just a little.
(send me a number 1-100 and I'll try to write a little something based on the song!)

Falling through his realm
Hi everyone! Thank you for reading this story. This was like my story Falling down to the Queen's roses. This was not a part 2 rather a similar to that concept. Keep in mind that you a reader is a half-fae like sebek. Thank you once again for reading this story. I really appreciate it very much.
Sypnosis: In which you got sent into another world where Maleficent or known as Malleus rule over the faeries.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
How does one understand magic?" You wondered. You sat down under the protection of tall trees, away from the sun's gaze. You opted to spend your time at the library, but with exams coming around, the chairs would be quite full at a moment. Instead, you chose a spot on the botanical garden away from the students sight.
Despite being a magic-user, you still couldn't grasp the abilities of your magic. You were neither bad nor good at magic, but as you used it as a tool, you were slowly doubting if it was worth the effort.
"Does magic bring peace?" You mumbled once more, turning the pages onto another as you tried to read. Try as you might, you kept rereading the lines many times before giving up on your attempt. Instead, you gazed up high; the green leaves covered the bluish sky, yet you didn't mind the view. You closed your eyes and breathed in the fresh air, letting your head fall backward and hitting the wooden tree lightly. The leaves sway back and forth, lulling you to sleep. You were exhausted; helping your dorm for the upcoming school festival, having to use your magic for a long run, and staying up late just so you could finish your schoolwork was no easy feat.
Even as you slept, you picked up a crunch sound heading your way. Your response was to simply continue sleeping, hoping just a little they could leave. Yet they didn't. Slowly and surely, their foot made their way until they are an arm's distance from you.
"Tch, a herbivore from diasomnia is in my way, he growled. You fluttered your eyes and glanced at his figure, noticing his irritation. It seems you were at one of his hideouts. His silence continued once more, and his patience is wearing thin. You nod your head in greeting before plastering a smile on your face.
"Housewarden Kingscholar, can I help you?"
"Crawling away from my spot will help."
You sighed. "Is that so? Well, then, if you excuse me, you said, closing the book and standing up from the ground. His expression stayed emotionless, yet you didn't miss the way his eye twitched at your movement.
"What's wrong? A cat bit your tongue?" He taunted.
"None at all." You checked your belongings once more and tilted your head to look at him. You plastered a smile once more without any fight. He opened his mouth but closed it; he mumbled something under his breath and turned his back on you. You frowned in confusion before shrugging and leaving the garden. You passed by some familiar students and greet them, you hold some small conversation with Ruggie Bucchi alerting him where Housewarden Leona was and stride your way towards the mirror.
"Y/N, are you already heading back?"
"Vice housewarden Lilia. Yes, was the dorm still under preparation?" You paused in your tracks and greeted. Lilia's deep red eyes held joy; his lips curled up a smile and he nodded.
"Indeed, but it was almost done. It was fun designing the main area, did it not?" He put the back of his hand to his chin and closed his eyes, chuckling.
You shared his joyous expression and agreed. For once, the dorm was filled with more noise than before. It was usually quiet every time you came back, yet you didn't mind the change. For a while, the two of you stood there talking until you noticed the clock nearby.
"I should get back soon; I wouldn't hold you back from your duty, Vice-Housewarden Lilia."
He chuckled lightly and patted your shoulder. "Ow, don't be so formal, Y/N,
We are both in our third years. Call me Lilia."
"Ah, well then, Lilia-san. I wished you the best of luck." You fumbled your words at the sudden request before smiling.
"You as well. Stay safe, Y/N."
He returned your words and left you on your record. You turn around and
Head your way towards the mirror and step in.
But something is wrong.
.
Your magic.
.
.
Is bursting with mana engulfing your whole body.
.
.
It hurts so much. You could feel your magic slipping by. Your vision was distorted as you fell down in pain. Whimpering in pain, you tried to use your pen whispering some magic spells but to no avail. Even the world around you seems to be shaking. Your body couldn't handle anymore and blacked out in an instant.
When you woke up, your head was aching. 'Where was I? ' You rubbed your temple to ease the pain. At the very least, you still wear the uniform, and your magic pen is by your side. But you feel empty. The magic running through your course was nonexistent, as if it weren't there at all. Your heart thumps against your chest as you breathe.
You lost your magic.
No, it must be something. After all, you were exhausted.
You reasoned. You calm your nerves and focus on the bright side.
Yet... Why do you feel as if it won't come back?
A half-fae turn human now.
No, don't even think about it. You comfort yourself more before turning around and looking at the surroundings. The sun was replaced by the moon shining on the ground, and you wondered how many hours had passed. You note how everything differs from NRC's. The air was much colder than diasomnia, and the area wasn't supposed to be wide. There shouldn't be a castle in the distance or thorn walls creeping from the side. You concluded you were neither in Diasomnia nor at NRC.
Where are you?
You didn't have time to grasp everything when strange soldiers headed your way. Your eyes widened, and you turned to run. You couldn't believe your luck; what made them want to capture you?
"A human! Quick capture her!" one of the soldiers ordered, earning them to yell in agreement.
"Wait, I-" Huffing, you maneuvered your way, dodging their attacks, and almost fell down when they released a rock mere meters away. You tried to use your magic, but it was still useless. Your attention was on your pen, and failed to noticed a newcomer in front, you bumped into them and fell to the ground.
"What a surprise, human. You boldly went your way here despite the dangers lurking around."
Lilia?
"Lilia-"
Your vision was suddenly covered with a cloth, and your heart pounded as you heard the swishing sounds of bats swarming around you, carrying you in the air. You squeaked and tried to swat them away, but they held on enough that it could have hurt had it not been for the long sleeve of your uniform.
"I wouldn't try that if I were you." His amused voice filled your ears, and you couldn't help but compare them earlier; his tone was much colder than before.
"Lilia-san, what is going on? Why aren't we back at NRC? Could you please-"
"Stop asking questions. And its Vanrouge. Once we reach the king, you could give your statement to him." he sneered.
You shut your mouth when you notice a shift in the air. His tone was much colder than before. With that they continued. You relied on your ears, but the only sound you ever heard was multiple footsteps. Yet you could feel magic surging around you. You tried your magic once more, but it was the same as before. Nothing. For a while, they cackled and chat around. You couldn't hear Lilia at all. You dreaded everytime they stop from their tracks. Your nerves gets the better of you as you thout about the king.
Would he be lenient?
Without warning, the cloth on your eyes was suddenly pulled down. You blink your eyes adjusting them before meeting the gaze of the one sitting on a throne. He was already staring at you.
"My king, we have brought a human near the wall." Lilia lowered herself towards the ground, his head tilting downward as he greeted his king. You gasp as you took in the figure. His green-slitted eyes, his cool-black hair was longer than before, and instead of a school uniform, he wore a robe covering most of his body and a bit of the ground. He still had his horns, but what shakes you the most is his stare. It was much scarier than usual.
He looks at you as if your words may fail you or approve your worth under his command.
And you know he will.
Taking a deep breath, you whispered your blessings to the seven. And slowly speak with the king.
"Your Majesty-"

There’s this one detail that has been staying in the back of my mind for a long time and maybe I’m too focused on it but there is an almost constant clock ticking in the sound track. This, combined with whatever is in the woods and Pyro’s illness, I feel like it has something to do with running out of time. The series is clearly going in a murder mystery direction and with how intentional every piece of the episode is, I wouldn’t be surprised if the sound design is important too. Especially considering Ivory makes all the music herself.
Idk, but somewhat unrelated, god Whitepine is gorgeous and I’m sure the several botanical references made will have no impact on the story nor any symbolism whatsoever
Wellll for one, we already know the Hemlocke is poisonous :)
Also, the clock may have to do with having background noise but also running out of time too <3

Weed Killin'
Quill made their way to the chem lab. While it might be more fun to use a weed whacker, there were undoubtedly many threats laying in a garden. After all this place is owned by some dude who can like, talk to plants and shit. That's already a red flag!
The chemical laboratory was very sterile in design. Silver, grey, and white colors with blindingly bright lights. The design was very much a standard college lab, with several tables spread about lined with microscopes, vials, and safety goggles. Quill made their way to the back that held all the chemical cabinets. Quill reached for the one in front of them and pulled. Nothing. Another pull. Nothing.
With a heave the door finally popped open and a body came tumbling out! Quill hurriedly shoved the corpse off of them. Some red goggles clattered across the tiled floor, making this cadaver an Insurgent. The body had blood leaking from the eyes, and part of the jaw was exposed as if it had acid poured on it. Upon further inspection, Quill could identify this body as belonging to Nathaniel Abernathy, the Chem expert for the Bravo Team. In his death, he seemed to have clutched onto a bottle: Weedkiller X with a note crumpled onto it.
"Pipe valve. Pull microscope oran-" the note read before the rest of it had been seemingly destroyed. Quill stepped over the body of their fallen comrade and went looking for what the note described. Finding the orange-looking microscope, (such an ugly color), they pulled it down, which emitted a loud clank. A panel of the wall slid open, revealing an insert for a liquid to be poured into. Quill poured all of the Weedkiller X into the insert and hurried back to the main hallway.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The large door appeared to have not changed, the large stalks and vines from the plants still wrapped tightly around the door. Perhaps something is blocking the pipes? Quill recalled a door they passed between here and the chem lab and made their way to it. Upon entering the room they were hit with a blast of humid air.
The room seemed to be a botanical garden of some kind: Planters filled with vegetables filled the rooms as scattered tools were haphazardly placed along the walls. Occasionally misters sprayed a light tinge of water across the room. The main focus of the room, however, lay in the back. Sitting in two large plots were even larger venus-flytraps, however, they had eyes and were drooling. A man wearing Insurgent gear tried to run towards Quill, but had his legs snagged by the plants, and was pulled in between them. By the time Quill clocked him as Field Photographer Traysen, the plants had used their vines to pull the poor guy in two, which the plants happily shared as they crunched down on his bones.
Quill wagered that these two plants were the ones impeding their progress. Out of their peripherals, they spotted a valve for the sprinklers in the room. They slowly shifted over, not wanting to alert the feasting plants to their presence. They just wanted one fucking set of rooms without a death. Softly stepping over the large, exposed roots they made it to the valve and quickly began turning it.
The misters began to spray out a harsh pinkish liquid over the room. The two plants began to wail and cry as their leaves turned brown and died. They flopped down onto their planters as they started to shrink in size.
"Pipe blockage alleviated. Resuming normal flow." An automated voice from a vine-obstructed wall monitor chirped. Quill quickly ran out of the room, slightly sliding across the wet floor. They made it to the large set of doors to see the broken pipe splurting out herbicide, quickly disintegrating the vines and stalks. With a giddy smile, Quill pushed open the doors and ran through.
Something was weird though. The walls were like rocks, and Quill could feel their ears popping. Had they magically dropped in elevation? Weren't those doors supposed to lead to a sky bridge? Why were they underground now? Those questions faded as they spotted something supremely useful: A train!
The unlocked doors invited Quill in, who quickly made their way to the engine room. It seemed to be a modern electric, given that it had a handle to control the direction. There were two options: Forward and backward. They seemed to have time now to think, and think they shall.
