"ROCK 'N' ROLL BAND"
Well, we were just another band out of Boston
On the road to try to make ends meet
Playin' all the bars, sleepin' in our cars
And we practiced right on out in the street
No, we didn't have much money
We barely made enough to survive
But when we got up on stage and got ready to play
People came alive
[Hook]
Rock and roll band, everybody's waitin'
Gettin' crazy, anticipating love and music
Play, play, play
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
[Verse 2]
Dancin' in the streets of Hyannis
We were getting pretty good at the game
People stood in line and didn't seem to mind
You know everybody knew our name
Livin' on rock-n-roll music
Never worry 'bout the things we were missing
When we got up on the stage and got ready to play
Everybody'd listen
[Hook]
Rock and roll band, everybody's waitin'
Gettin' crazy, anticipating love and music
Play, play, play
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
[Guitar Solo]
[Verse 3]
Playin' for a week in Rhode Island
A man came to the stage one night
He smoked a big cigar
Drove a Cadillac car
And said "Boys, I think this band's outta sight"
Sign a record company contract
You know I've got great expectations
When I hear you on the car radio
You're goin' to be a sensation!"
[Hook]
Rock and roll band, everybody's waitin'
Gettin' crazy, anticipating love and music
Play, play, play
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

We are psyched to announce that "Dead Weight," our first original studio recording since 2017, will be streaming everywhere on Friday, July 5, 2024.
Has it been THAT long? Yes, yes it has. If you've seen us live, you've heard "Dead Weight," our anthem about cutting toxic people out of your life. We started recording it in 2023 with several other songs and it's finally ready for release. It features Julia on vocals and a killer three-piece horn section.
The artwork for "Dead Weight" was beautifully drawn by Kat Delitto, guitarist for Indoor Friends. @kattastrophi
Listen to “Dead Weight” streaming everywhere Friday, July 5, 2024. Pre-save on Spotify today.

Boston - Boston
Boston's first album is in my opinion their best. The music is very well produced, and it has some memorable songs. My favorite song is Smokin'.

This is week two of four in the Lady-Vocalist-Hotties-Who-Rock (but aren’t all that famous) month, and I figured I may as well pay homage to my old stomping grounds; the Boston-metro area. Folks, let me tell ya, I just left Boston a few months back and don’t miss it at all. I don’t miss the high taxes, the go-fuck-yourself attitudes, the politics, the grey winters, the cost of living, the Mass-hole drivers, the insular economy/market… I could go on! But you know one thing that Boston has always done 100% right? The music. By God, the music scene in Massachusetts is amazing. From the legendary artists to the live shows, this region of the U.S. is inspired and on fire in a musical sense. Always has been, always will be. Oftentimes, there was and is great music from the region which manages to slip under the radar and go almost completely unnoticed. One such example was tunes by a little band called Splashdown, who’s total lifespan lasted approximately 3-4 years until the late 90’s when they subsequently vanished in a poof that could rival a Harry Houdini disappearing act. Into the 2000’s, the individual members of the group split off into various musical projects such as Freezepop, Anarchy Club and Universal Hall Pass, the latter being where vocalist and resident hottie Melissa Kaplan ended up and technically is the one and only member of. Smash play dear listener, because I want to draw particular attention to the vocal performance in this track, which is not only unconventional but executed REMARKABLY. While the instrumentals of this track are good, the vocal range and emotive expressiveness in Kaplan’s voice is unbelievable. She goes from soft to loud (without any shrill screaming) in about thirty seconds. Fun fact: this is a group that initially discouraged free music sharing on Napster, but shortly thereafter realized it was their primary mode of promotion, eventually encouraging free music sharing until their early death. Massachusetts, I do not miss you. But I will eternally love your coastal creative ingenuity. SHINE ON you crazy musical bastards in the frozen north! And keep those ass-kicking tunes coming until coastal flooding subsumes your metropolitan areas to the point where I’m listening to your old timey tunes from Charlotte Bay! This is Ironspy from their 1999 EP, Redshift. Enjoy!

It really is a shame that bands like this die so early. Given two more decades I’m more than sure this group could have produced some rocking hits. Give it up for the smokin’ voice on Melissa Kaplan and pursue her work because I’m too damn lazy to follow up further. Image credit: https://www.last.fm/music/Splashdown

Boston - More Than a Feeling (Official HD Video)
So many people have come and gone Their faces fade as the years go by Yet I still recall as I wander on As clear as the sun in the summer sky
It's more than a feeling (More than a feeling) When I hear that old song they used to play (More than a feeling) I begin dreaming (More than a feeling) 'Til I see Marianne walk away I see my Marianne walkin' away
When I'm tired and thinking cold I hide in my music, forget the day And dream of a girl I used to know I closed my eyes and she slipped away She slipped away

Song of the Week: "Pop Song Baby" by MEDIOCRE
MEDIOCRE – “Pop Song Baby” The Boston duo MEDIOCRE, Piper Torrison and Keely Martin, are better than their name implies.  On “Pop Song Baby” they take on misogyny in the music business with raging guitars and joyous pop punk. The song is one of five on the band’s new EP To Know You’re Screwed.  And the title track features a comic video filmed on location in Boston so here’s a bonus song of the…
