Winter was always you and matt’s second favorite season next to fall, mainly because Christmas is in the winter time. You and him have made a tradition of planning 25 days of Christmas festivities that you two wanted to do together leading up to Christmas together.

It could be in LA or Boston or even as far as being outside or inside the house if it was too cold for you two.

Which brings you to now, day 10 of your 25 day Christmas festivities which just so happen to be something you and matt quite enjoyed doing together, ice skating.

"Matt no im going to fall'

you squeal keeping a tight grip on his hand as he begin to skate away from you.

'baby you should know how to do this we have been doing this for a few years now'

matt chuckles as you as he looks back at you trying not to fall face first on the ice.

' no no no you cant talk okay ice skating is in your blood you literally did hockey for fucksake'

you whine out.

' okay thats fair'

he chuckles out pulling on your arm to get you up to where he was so you are right beside him as you let out a squeal from the action as you grip onto his forearm tightly giggling.

'i got you princess i got you'

he chuckles out replying to your action as he places his hand ontop of yours.

' you got the popcorn babygirl'

matt asks you admiring your present as you and him are dressed in your matching Christmas pj pants marking day 19 of your 25 days of festivities leading up to christmas

"yeah you ready to watch wait what are we watching'

you respond and question him as you sit down next to him on the couch with the bowl of popcorn.

"um we could watch elf'

matt suggests looking at you and digging his hand in the bowl of popcorn placed on your lap, hoping you agree with him.

"the grinch"

you exclaim your eyes lighting up as you look at him.

"what no i love you but lets watch elf baby'

he sighs out looking at you placing his hand on your thigh as you let a pouting expression display on your face.

"babyy no"

you whine out dragging the 'y' and the 'o' in your response to your boyfriend.

"rock, paper, sisscors"

you suggest determined to win because you want to watch the grinch, setting the bowl of popcorn on the coffee table in front of you two.

"seriously"

matt chuckles out looking at you next him as you have shifted your whole body towards him with your hands ready to play.

"yes matt right now what scared you are going to lose"

you joke giggling as he rolls his eyes and shifts his body to face you.

You begin playing the first round of rock paper sisscors, you winning the first round playing down paper and him playing rock. little did you know matt had a little trick up his sleeve.

"last round nervous"

you chuckle pushing some of his hair out of your face.

"nah"

matt cockily states as you two began to play the last round which was the tie breaker. Matt when you weren't paying too much attention seeing you were mainly focusing on what move you were going to play rather than think about what he was going to play, he quickly swap his hand from paper to sisscors once he saw you playing paper.

"WHAT"

you gasp out look at matt seeing and realizing what he did.

"elf it is"

matt chuckles.

"you can't do that you cheated"

you state pouting as he looks at you chuckling wrapping his arms around your torso still in complete shock.

"matt no i really wanted to watch the grinch I won seriously"

you giggle along with him wrapping your arms around his leaning in figure seeing his arms were still around your torso.

"okay okay fine because i love you we will watch the grinch'

matt sighs out giving in sitting up and placing a kiss on your forehead.

"dude stop thats not what we need arent we making cookies"

matt groans out leaning against the shopping cart, as you and him are at Target getting some quick ingredients for the cookies you two were going to make at your house making it day 22 of your Christmas festivities and unbeknownst to you Matt wanted to mess with you a little to see if you noticed the name change.

"did you just call me dude im not dude"

you turn around pouting and shifting your focus completely away from the item you were looking at kind of offended and hurt that your boyfriend didn't call you 'princess' or 'babygirl' like he always does.

"bro do you really need a rug that says 'merry christmas' on it"

he questions you as he walks over looking at the rug you were holding in your hands, matt slightly noticing the matching chrome silver nails you and him got yesterday as they shimmered in the warm lighting in the store. Although you couldn't even focus on the question matt asked you still hurt that he had yet to call you what you know he always calls you.

"what"

matt questions as you are just staring at him with a confused and hurt emotion clearly visible across you face.

"matt seriously im not a bro or dude"

you whine out slightly tugging the rug out of his shared grasp and setting it back where you picked it up from on the shelf and beginning to walk into the next aisle being the candles and quite frankly you needed a new one so this was a necessary and valid purchase if you got one.

"dude are you done yet smelling candles"

matt ask you again as you slowly turn to him setting the candle down tucking some hair behind you ear.

"yeah i think i want this one"

you softly reply hurt evident in your voice.

"bro this are really good lets get these"

matt suggest holding up the chocolate chip cookie bag as you two moved into the premade cookie aisle.

"did i do something wrong"

you pout out starting to looked down and pick at your nails feeling like tears were going to start spilling out at any second.

"no what why would you ask that"

matt slightly chuckles as he can see his childish antics are starting to get to you.

"you keep calling me bro and dude"

you huff out dropping your arms at your sides defeated.

"you dont like when i call you that"

matt jokes putting the cookie dough in the cart.

"no matt i dont im your girlfriend"

you whine out.

"well what do you want me to call you then"

matt asks continuing to joke around.

"nevermind"

you pout out turning on your heels walking away from him to the check out area.

"babe babe wait"

he exclaims out running up to catching you by your hips pulling you into him as he nuzzles his face in your neck from behind you.

"i was just messing with youuu"

matt chuckles out dragging out the 'u'

"youre fucking stupid"

you groan out trying to get out of his tight grip.

"what you didnt like that dude"

matt jokes again.

"Stopp"

you whine dragging 'p'

"no not at all i actually thought I did something wrong because you always call me-"

you pout as you turn around to face him as he releases his grip on your hips.

"princess or my babygirl"

he replies.

"yeah"

you softly reply.

"im sorry just messing with you my love"

he reiterates leaving a kiss on your forehead.

You guys have now made it to day 24 which was Christmas eve and you Matt and his brothers and their partners decided to walk and look at the Christmas lights.

You knew Chris' girlfriend extremely well just because she is your best friend you laugh every time as you see how happy she is with Chris considering she was in complete denial about even liking him in the first place.

"would you guys pick up the pace losers"

chris exclaims to nick and his boyfriend as his girlfriend and you and matt laugh at his antics.

"shut the fuck up chris we will get there when we get there"

nick rolls his eyes replying to the youngest.

" I feel like you and matt have been MIA all holiday season"

chris' girlfriend giggles as chris wraps his arms around her shoulder as you all walk side by side on the sidewalk.

"thats so not true we just have been doing our own thing"

you giggle out as matt nuzzles his cold nose on your face.

"what so fucking every chance you guys get"

chris snorts as his girlfriend smacks in the stomach.

"seriously dude fuck off no"

matt rolls his eyes replying to his brother.

You exclaim cutting off your own sentence gazing at the lights.

Now it is Day 25, Christmas Day and you and Matt are now exchanging Christmas gifts with each other like you do every year at your place.

"i got this for you"

you smile softly turning to face your boyfriend criss cross on the couch you two were sitting on as he does the same as you hand he the present wrapped in blue and silver stripped wrapping paper.

" what is it"

he chuckles taking the present from your hands.

"open it"

you giggle as he begins to unwrap it, revealing a silver chain with a horse shaped pendant attached to it.

“Wait what the fuck baby this is sick”

He exclaims holding up the chain.

“You like it”

You question giggling as he sets it back in the box leaning over and placing a kiss on you supple lips.

“I love it”

He replies as he stands up to grab the gift he had for you.

“Okay your turn close your eyes”

He chuckles as he hides the box with the bow on top behind his back.

“Oookayyy”

You question covering your eyes with your hands. Matt carefully kneels down on one leg opening the box up to reveal this diamond ring.

“Okay you can open now”

Matt softly states as you begin to uncover your hands from your eyes immediately gasping.

“You’re joking’

You whine out as you notice the diamond ring in front of you.

“Matt”

you begin to cry out reaching out and caressing his cheeks.

“Baby from the moment I met you in preschool I knew you were the one for me and spending these last years being your boyfriend it just confirmed that I do want to spend the rest of my life with you and I couldn't see myself doing life with anyone else; will you marry me"

matt gleams as he asks the long awaited question.

"yes matthew i will marry you"

you sniffle leaning you forehead on his after he slips the ring on your fingers.

"you made me cry matt on christmas"

you giggle out wiping away your stray tears as matt sit back on the couch next to you.

he chuckles as you quickly look at him acknowledging the new nickname he gave you smiling at him leaning in to connect your guys' lips.

So Mew is officially in his Reputation era. And the aesthetics that he chose for the transformation was fascinating to me and @lurkingshan. Mew was, in his own words, setting out to be "as nasty as the nasty ones". And then went ahead and completely modelled his appearance after Ray.

So does he think Ray is one of the "nasty" ones? Well, turns out, not quite. We see him trying to look confident with his fake hookup with Guy, but he fails. He's nervous, and it shows. He also tells Boston later in the episode that he "doesn't have to be as filthy as him".

So while he's not trying to be "nasty" or "filthy", he IS trying to be a transgressor. A rule-breaker. And he’s trying to emulate some of that chaotic energy Ray is always exuding without sinking all the way to Boston’s level. He wants to step out of line, but he still wants to stand within the moral boundary enough to claim superiority, as we see him do at Boston's house.

Which explains why Mew thinks Ray is not "right" for him, even if he’s willing to give him a chance to soothe his ego after Top’s cheating.

And when the time comes, it'll be oh-so-easy for Top to convince Mew that Ray is not "good" for him.

Oh I gotta know your opinion on the covens fave books, with bonus questions: do any of the older witches have absurdly strong opinions on very old books, and does Lilia prefer to read in her native language?

Fascinating question! Let's start with Lilia, because I've also been wondering if she ever came back to Sicily after emigrating – however far back that was. When was it, actually? Did she wander Europe covenless and sad for a century or so before catching the first ship to the new world in the 1600s? Or did she join the wave of 19th/20th century southern Italian immigrants? How involved was she in the Renaissance art circles? Did she ever meet the greats? Did she model for any of them? I hope she had time to cozy up with Artemisia Gentileschi at some point, they would have been a match made in heaven.

I think it would have been difficult for her to travel back once she moved, with money being such a big issue for her, and she'd have lost contact with her roots for a while. Until she discovered how easy it is nowadays to get ebooks in Italian! I imagine her as the most technological of the coven after Jen, so you know she got her hands on a second hand e-reader (NOT a Kindle, thankyouverymuch) and started pirating Italian recentish literature like crazy, with special emphasis on female authors, she read and loved Deledda, de Céspedes, Maraini, Ginzburg, Morante, Murgia. She thinks Elena Ferrante is overrated.

(It goes without saying that you shouldn't pirate books and use your library card instead, but Lilia is a witch and by extension a rule-breaker.)

Despite her recent forays in modern literature, Lilia's favorite author has always been and always will be Boccaccio. As a teenager she would write racy Decameron fanfic – I mean, even racier than the Decameron itself. She used to save copies from church bonfires.

I headcanon Jen as being born in the late 1800s and I think that as a young adult she was somewhat part of the early 20th century Black cultural scene (when she had the time in between work and studies), she definitely partook in the Harlem Renaissance even if she was critical of some aspects of it. She was more into music and fashion but also read plenty, her favorite author being Zora Neale Hurston.

After Boston she stopped doing most of the things that brought her joy, including reading. But ironically enough, nowadays she has constructed a bit of a #booktok persona: it all started when she posted a picture of Normal People next to her morning matcha (someone had forgotten it at the organic coffee shop and she snatched it for the aesthetic). That seemed to interest her followers, so she started publishing biweekly videos reviewing all the buzzworthy new books. She doesn't actually read the books and the reviews are written with chatGPT (yikes). Hopefully that'll stop now that she doesn't need to scam people for a living.

Alice only ever reads for pleasure. 1980s fantasy holds a special place in heart because she grew up with it, she loved Terry Pratchett, Diana Wynne Jones, Tamora Pierce, Brian Jaques, Terry Brooks and Margaret Weis (in this exact order.) Agatha used to be a Goodreads top five user until she got kicked out for breaking basically every community guideline. She runs a literary blog called "The Cunt of Montecristo" and has been a controversial celebrity in the online reading circles for at least 30 years. Despite being mostly into nonfiction she has reviewed thousands of novels and has very specific beef with long-dead writers that don't make any sense unless she somehow knew them in person. She also claims to know which authors were queer and which were boring and hetero. Her pinned page is a list of all the female authors she hypothetically, definitely not for real fucked, with notable mentions like Eliot, two Brontë sisters (Anne thwarted her), Zelda Fitzgerald, Fannie Hurst, Austen of course (took her v card), and Alcott (she's the reason Jo didn't end up with Laurie).

Regrettably (or luckily) she never met Woolf. Dickinson wouldn't give her the time of day. Mary Shelley was too straight and too into pale-ass moody idiots, Agatha never forgave her and indeed Frankenstein isn't at all her favorite book and she doesn't cry every time she reads it.

Everyone’s gone UFO crazy. Maybe The X-Files should come back

Starring in a poignant new film adapted from his own novel, David Duchovny reveals the heartache of almost losing his daughter... and why his most famous show could yet return

No wonder David Duchovny has written, directed and stars in his latest movie Bucky F***ing Dent... it’s based on his own bestselling 2016 novel of the same name. Poignant and funny, it examines a father-son relationship via baseball, with X-Files star David playing Marty the dad, who’s dying of lung cancer, and Logan Marshall-Green from Spider-Man: Homecoming as his estranged son Ted.

The real Bucky Dent went down in history for scoring an unlikely home run for the New York Yankees in a 1978 tie-breaker against arch rivals the Boston Red Sox, and the film’s title is how generations of Boston fans have referred to him ever since, a metaphor for heartbreak. Set in that same year, the film follows struggling writer Ted as he moves back into his childhood home when he hears his father is dying, prompting a whirlwind of dark revelations from the past. Meanwhile, Boston fan Marty’s health dips whenever his beloved Red Sox lose, so New York fan Ted orchestrates the illusion of a Boston winning streak...

Marty has transferred his feelings for an old flame (the secret love of his life, not his wife) to the Red Sox. ‘The intensity of fandom has always puzzled me,’ says David. ‘It has to be a kind of sublimation. My father and I liked playing baseball; my best childhood memory is playing it with him and enjoying the simple communication you can have through a game, but we didn’t share the fandom thing.

‘Marty’s transposed his feelings for this woman to the Red Sox, and the movie is really about the idea of losing. In America there’s a sick addiction to winning and winners, but most of us have to lose every day. Suffering makes us human - it unites us all.’

There’s a moment in the film when Marty is talking about a chest infection that almost killed Ted as a child. Marty says he begged God or whoever to take his lungs instead and let Ted live. ‘One thing I’ve never told anyone is that when my daughter was nine months old she got really ill,’ reveals David. ‘Her mother [actress Tea Leoni] and I had to face the fact we might lose her and I remember feeling so devastated, I didn’t think I could love anything again if she died.’

His daughter West, now 24, has since become a successful actress who seems to have inherited her mother’s stunning blonde looks and her father’s charisma. ‘I think she has a greater passion for acting than either of her parents ever did,’ he says. They also have a son Kyd, 21, and David says the hardest moment of his life was telling them he and Tea were divorcing ten years ago, as his own parents had done when he was 12. ‘It was far worse telling them than actually experiencing it. When you’re a child you just try to get through it, you don’t feel responsible. As a parent I felt at least 50 per cent responsible.’

Tall and thin with good skin and an easy charm, David seems untouched by the ageing process, although this role is a huge shift from the Lotharios he usually plays, such as bed-hopping writer Hank in comedy-drama series Californication. Does getting older bother him? ‘Of course, and as an actor you have to think of the different roles you’ll be offered. When I was writing this script I was thinking I’d play Ted, the son. We tried to make it four or five years ago and I was still going to play Ted, but then when it came to doing it I realised it just wouldn’t work, so I thought I’d play Marty. And that was exciting because it was very different.’

Californication won two Emmys and a Golden Globe, but was notorious for its portrayal of LA’s seedier side. Does he think it could be made now? ‘Certainly they would insist on intimacy coaches, but I don’t think it would be made now, for the wrong reasons. There was a misunderstanding about what it was about. It was meant to be funny, and it was meant to be about family and love. But what everybody got excited about was not that,’ he says, referring to the furore over the sex scenes. ‘In my mind the show was misperceived.’

Another of David’s roles that would spark a row today was a transgender FBI agent in Twin Peaks in the early 90s, when almost no transgender women were on TV. Again it was groundbreaking. ‘But if you’re playing a murderer no one asks you, “Have you murdered people?”’ he says. ‘It was just being an actor.’

David is, of course, best known for The X-Files, in which he played UFO-obsessed FBI agent Mulder opposite Gillian Anderson’s sceptical Scully. The series finally bowed out in 2018 after 11 series, but could there ever be another? ‘Maybe - it might even be more current now,’ he says, referring to the recent release of top-secret UFO files in the US. ‘I’m not personally interested in UFOs so it doesn’t make it more exciting for me to revisit The X-Files. It was a role I played but I wasn’t passionate about the subject. Maybe I’m the only one who isn’t.’

There was a brouhaha at the time about the huge pay discrepancy between David and Gillian, and I wonder if it would be difficult for him to work with her again. ‘As far as I know, by the end there was no difference at all between us, but Hollywood salaries are very weird,’ he says. ‘I’m going to London soon and I’ll see Gillian because she lives there now. I saw her in the West End doing All About Eve and I enjoyed it. She wished me luck with Bucky too.’

In recent years David has explored his passion for music, releasing a couple of folk-rock albums. So does he see himself as an actor, a director or a musician? ‘All of them, I’m an artist,’ he says. ‘I can filter stuff through a song, a novel, a performance or through directing. There are all kinds of ways of being an artist. I write best about dramatic things. There’s a way to deal with suffering to create art.’
