Was rereading Jade City and realised how unhinged "Hilo eating cereals in the kitchen in the same clothes that he wore the previous night to carry out a massacre" was

A certain fantasy trilogy has become my new favorite thing recently, So here's Hilo from that series 👀

very niche double overlap, but i think that after wat i was hoping that the end of kaladin's story would be spiritually similar to the end of hilo's story in green bone saga. Not that kaladin and hilo are that similar in personality, but that hilo's end was perfect for him specifically, and was about the character we had always been with. what had changed was gradual, over many years and iterations of his life.

I think 9 days was too short for me to feel like kaladin was done. i needed him to grow old, i needed him to spend years being on the outside of things, feeling frustrated and young and then gradually becoming older and wiser as his friends and his family die around him. and then near the very end of his life, taking the hands of the heralds and welcoming pain like an old friend, someone he had walked with for so long and finally understood.

idk i just think 9 days to heal from clinical depression and years as a slave was a bit fast for me

Hilo and Anden from Jade City. Through the entire trilogy I just love how their family relationship is, highs and lows. Also consider the first time we see them interact Anden already knows to take off his glasses cos Hilo is gonna really fight him for a “joke”. They’re both messed up…

I couldn’t resist teen Anden with floppy hair no one’s told him to cut in a while…

my best boy Kaul Hilo was written so well. so much baby girl put into him, so much cunt. so much love and unweavering loyalty in his family. he gives it all of himself to them even tho he knows he’s putting in more devotion than theO others. and yet, he doesn’t really try to understand them, he won’t let them be outside of what he pictures for them, what he thinks is right and would do for his family. and the author does such a good job of showing how much he adores them from his perspective but won’t try to be more understanding, to really see their struggles and who they are. he’ll jump to forgiveness and forgetting  but won’t consider seeing it from their perspective. if he did that, his relationship with others would be so much better but he doen’t see it !!!!

Pretty middle and last child coded if you ask me. That was right before she pledged her loyalty but the thought was there. Sibling goals.
