For day 6 of Crittertember its fav platonic ship. For me it is Dogday and Bubba. I don't know really. Since the very start I always saw Bubba as Dogday's bestie. Mostly due to him being the leader and Bubba the smart guy. When going over PPT chapter 3, I found myself thinking about how the dynamics of the critters would work. At no point did I ever see Catnap as a friend to anyone, at least not at the time. So I thought maybe Dogday's best friend was either gonna be Hoppy or Bubba. I picked Bubba for his differences and how a leader character would find value in an intelligent character. And it also would enhance the tragedy since Bubba died first (according to most theories at least), leaving Dogday without his reliable second in command.

They totally respect each other's strengths and have enough in common to bond over shared interests. In this case they both love the outdoors. As you can see from this pic of them as babbis chasing butterflies. Hiking, fishing, bug collections. I decided Bubba is a happy outdoor boi along with Dogday, though maybe not a sporty type (even though I have an unfinished picture of him playing soccer...). It's just Dogday is the type to jump off a cliff into the lake far below. Bubba won't go that far. For Bubba it is also likely for scientific pursuits. Where as Dogday just wants to chase things. And smell the cool nature smells.

I also have a second favorite platonic ship. Although I guess its more a tie. If you have followed this blog for a while you probably know what it is.

Bobby and Crafty of course! I think their personalities would gel together perfectly. I almost can't explain it. In my mind its just a big "duh". I guess it is because Crafty reminds me of a childhood friend.

We drew a lot together, mostly fanart, and nerded out about shows/ cartoons we both liked. Bobby would always be cheering for Crafty's artistic pursuits and Crafty always wants her best friend to just...be happy! They would do everything together and maybe even read each other's secret diaries!

Also I say Crafty reminds me of a friend. I have to keep in mind Crafty tried to kill someone for "red paint". I don't think my friendship was that volatile lol. But yeah. I don't think the Smiling Cs are fully characters. They are concepts that us fans project our desires onto. It can vary wildly from fan to fan.

Onward to day 7. I'm nervous because I'm trying to write out why I like my otp. Hopefully people understand it.

DOGDAY

before you and dogday got together, he would usually just hang out with his friends for valentine's day since well, he had no lover!

but now that your with him, he spends all his time with you!

since of course, playcare doesn't have many places to go, he tries to find little gifts for you!

he also does little coloring dates with you.

"i appreciate you a whole bunch, did you know that?" dogday would tell you.

CATNAP

catnap didn't exactly celebrate anything before you came along.

he'd usually just watch from afar to make sure his friends were safe.

but, you changed that.

the first time you both met, valentines was right around the corner, so you decided to make a paper bouquet.

at first, he ignored your calls when you tried to get his attention but he somewhat gave in.

instead of running away, he stood staring at you.

"for you," you offered. he stared at the paper in your hand. "for me?" he questioned. you nodded and smiled. he hesitantly took it and hit his face in it, shutting his eyes. "thank you."

now, it's mostly catnap who puts in a effort to make you gifts. he loves seeing your reactions and smiles. it warms his heart.

BOBBY BEARHUG

bobby has always been a loving and caring person,especially on valentines day.

so when you both got together, valentines was the best!

you'd cuddle, talk, draw for hours, kisses here and there, a bunch of love.

sometimes, you swore her middle name was love,or, maybe it was.

bobby approached you with a heart shaped box along with a wide smile on her face.

when she got close to you, she pushed it out to you. "here! i got this for you," bobby smiled. "hmm? what is it Bobby — oh!" you opened the box to see hand written notes along with your favorite snacks. she smiled when your mouth went agape. "do you like it?" you stammered over your words for a bit.

"i love it, bobby! thank you!" you hugged her tightly and pecked her cheek, which she returned.

PICKY PIGGY

picky piggy of course, is piggy but really loves to eat, and she loves to see you eat, too!

so instead of paper crafts or anything else, she cooks things for you, fruits, veggies, anything she can shape into a heart!

"lasssst one!" picky happily said as she placed a platter full of heart shaped fruit in-front of you. you smiled, then looked at her. "picky, you know you didn't have to make it all alone, you could've let me help!" picky shushed you and closed her eyes, then made eye contact with you. "No need! This is a special day, and I wanna spoil you, dig in!"

HOPPY HOPSCOTCH

hoppy is usually in a rush for most things, so when valentine's day comes around, she gets worried she won't make things on time, even though she always does, it's just a stress.

"hoppy, seriously, you don't have to rush," your reassured her. "take your time, okay?"

hoppy shook her head in a 'no'. "but — but what if I don't make it on — on time?" you placed your paws on hers. "you will. you always do, don't you?" you kiss her on the cheek and she nods.

"thanks."

KICKIN CHICKEN

Kickin chicken sometimes lets his cool ego overrun him, so when that does happen, you lightly scold him.

"but (nameeee).."

"no buts!" you said, tugging on his charm. "don't tire yourself out. I love the gifts but I care for you more, okay?" you pulled him down for a hug.

"okay.. I'll try not to overdo it next time." kickin' mumbled, pressing kisses onto your shoulder.

BUBBA BUBBAPHANT

bubba is usually studying mathematics and more 'boring' stuff, that's how you view it.

other than him studying, he pushes it aside to spend time with you.

you guys don't do anything really special, his love language is quality time. he loves just being around you and spending time with you.

or, he watches after you while you play with the kids.

he loves seeing you in his sight. he loves you.

CRAFTY-CORN

crafty loves anything, well, crafty! that's exactly why every holiday, especially valentines, she makes a bag of things for you.

it scales to clothes, shoes, drawings, anything she can think of.

"I love it, crafty." you gasped in awe at the shirt you were holding. it had a heart transitioning between red and pink.

"you do? thank god!" crafty sighed. "I had to ask the workers for more red because we ran out! but I'm glad you like it!"

you smiled and her and she smiled back, giving you a gentle kiss.

CraftyCorn

Crafty is the goddess of the arts. Theater, dance, crafts, painting, weaving, you name it.

Crafty’s fighting style is like a ballerina, let’s just say. She moves so gracefully, as if she’s dancing, before she suddenly makes a strike. I just love her so much she’s such a girl boss ahhh-

Huge introvert. Barely socializes unless she has to (or Bobby or DogDay or Picky make her)

She is EXTREMELY flexible. You’ll walk into her quarters and find her doing some ungodly yoga pose in the corner of her room. CatNap was the same way, and before everything happened, sometimes they’d be yoga buddies lmao

Speaking of CatNap, her and him were extremely close. Both had similar personalities and sheltered upbringings. They spent a lot of time together before everything. To Crafty, he was a shoulder to cry on.

She’s ace here. She wants to feel romantic attraction, but always feels like she’s physically having to force herself to have those feelings. So she just decided to not get involved in all that.

She’s very observant of her surroundings and can often easily tell when something is wrong. The others occasionally will come to her for advice.

She does have a small ability to be able to grow flowers. However, her flowers never look as though they were naturally created, always having some supernatural element to them. She doesn’t use that ability often though, as it’s hard for her to control.

Bobby Bearhug

Ah, the goddess of love. All different types of love, in fact. Familial, platonic, romantic, she knows it all.

She has a bow and quiver that had been passed down for centuries by different love gods in her line. There are different types of arrows. Arrows that can make you fall in different types of love, and arrows that can make you feel hatred. And then she just has normal arrows lmao.

You must be wondering if she returns Hoppy’s feelings for her? If so, yup, she does. However, despite being the literal goddess of romance, she has no clue that Hoppy returns her feelings. In all honesty, she thinks that Hoppy is too good for her, and way out of her league. Even though Hoppy literally blushes at every single word she says, this girl does not have a clue. And she then precedes to laugh about how Bubba is completely clueless about Kickin’s feelings towards him. It causes everybody in the room to facepalm.

Bobby has the power to charm anybody into doing her bidding. Flutter her eyelashes just a little bit and the mortals will be all over her. It even works on her fellow gods, although not even nearly as strong. She so takes advantage of this.

Bobby is the therapist friend. She’s extremely close with DogDay, as she’s the only one that he feels safe enough around to vent his frustrations. Well, and CatNap of course. All of the gods tend to come to Bobby for advice and love when they need it. Sometimes though, Bobby gets frustrated that she doesn’t get that kind of out in return. She thinks that she’s selfish for that though, so she tends to bury her feelings.

oh, I have an idea. What if SmilingCritter!reader was Catnap's sibling? I suppose we would be a cat too, just a different color. And there is a lot to discuss here: how would other Smiling Critters treat us? What functions would we perform? How would Catnap treat us? How different would our relationship be with him if we were the younger sibling or the older sibling? Would our brother try to convince us that the Prototype would save us all? How would he react if we refused to join the Prototype? What if we were helping the Player, how would Catnap react? And if we joined him, what would happen? In general, yes, I want to see Catnap as our brother 😁

SMILING CRITTERS WITH A READER WHO IS CATNAP SIBLING

SMILING CRITTERS

1. I'll start with what would be your function, I could see the reader as a secondary character who appeared at some point in the Smiling Critters series and the children liked them so much that the company decided to make them merch and more chapters of them.

• At first their only role was to be Catnap's sibling but they decided to give them a better role, being the oldest/youngest of the Smiling Critters.

2. "How would the other Smiling Critters treat us?"

• Dogday trusts you and has a lot of respect for you (double for being his best friend's sibling)

• Picky, Kickin and Hoppy simply see you as a friend-acquaintance

• Bobby adores you and loves hanging out with you.

• Crafty likes to spend time with you and is amused when you tell her stories about the young Catnap(If he even went through childhood—)

• Bubba respects you a lot and likes when you tell things about Catnap (btw Catnap is listening to the conversation with the gloomiest face in the world (he's just nervous))

3. "Would Catnap convince us that the Prototype will save us all?"

• he definitely would, it depends on the situation if you are a younger or older sibling.

• If you are the oldest, he would convince you even if he probably fails (I mean, you are older and smarter than him so you are smart enough to know that the Prototype won't save anyone)

• If you are the youngest, he will convince you little by little, even getting you a little closer to the Prototype, teaching you that you should not be afraid of it.

• He tells you day and night that the Prototype will save you just like it did with him.

4. "How would he react if we rejected the Prototype?"

• I repeat, it depends if you are older or younger.

• If you are older, He will get upset and try to attack you just like the other Smiling Critters.

• You will be imprisoned in a different prison than the others, having a somewhat more comfortable place and with a strap on your neck that allows you to move to a certain extent.

• He will continue to encourage you to believe in the Prototype, he will not kill you but he will hurt you a lot.

• If you are younger, he will think that you are just upset about something and will continue to encourage you to a certain extent, At some point you will also be imprisoned, only you have even more benefits than being older, he convinces you in different ways and sometimes even whispers in your sleep to join in (you'll probably think you're going crazy and your sanity will be screwed)

• He becomes more aggressive and makes more appearances, in some areas you could hear Catnap whispering "traitor..." to you.

• He doesn't care if you're his sibling, not anymore.

• Whether you are older or younger than him, he will continue trying to kill you and will not listen to you.

6. "How would he treat us?"

• It depends on some things

• If you were very close, later he will be a very protective brother even if you were the oldest, he likes to spend time with you and talk about the Prototype.

• But if in the past you didn't talk much, he would treat you with indifference and if the Prototype asked for it, he would kill you or torture you like the other Smiling Critters.

• since you never spoken to him so often, he only sees you as another toy, he doesn't care in the least that you are his brother, even if you beg him he will kill you anyway and without caring.

7. "How would Catnap treat us if we were the oldest or youngest?"

• If you are the oldest, he will treat you with respect and approach you when he is scared (before meeting the Prototype)

• When he met the Prototype and the "hour of joy" is over, he will be somewhat more distanced from you but he still protects you from the darkness, even if you are the oldest.

• If you are the youngest, he will be very protective and will always be close to you to make sure that no one hurts you.

• He will keep you away from other toys to protect you, he won't even let you near the Mini Critters, much less Dogday, he says he will brainwash you.

8. "How would he react if we accepted the Prototype?"

• He is happy that you finally accept the Prototype, daily he takes you with his "statue" of the Prototype that he has so that you both can "pray" to it (I don't know how to explain it)

• He will ask you to go see Dogday, even if in the past you were a couple or very close friends, he will specifically ask you to see him.

• it is to give you an idea of ​​what happens to those who reject the Prototype.

• Don't even think about crying in Catnap's presence, he'll think you're just a weakling and not strong enough to serve the Prototype.

Do you have any headcanons for the Smiling Critters?

Oh I do actually! Many of which that I was planning on making a comic on, but never really had the motivation to draw them ^^;

I will talk about them here as a post of all my HCs for them, however (that’s all for now, anyway)

Bobby Bearhug

-Has a collection of plush toys that she likes to cuddle with

-Has a hobby on photography. Loves taking photos of her friends smiling and having fun together

-Has a photo book created by Crafty as a gift. Keeps her collection of photos in there and would flip through it whenever she feels nostalgic or misses her friends

-Has a honey farm

-Because of this she’s also a pretty good gardener. Has a beautiful garden in her backyard

-Can’t cook for sh!t, but she’s good at brewing tea with her signature honey mixed into it

-Haven’t really decided on whether I want this, but despite being a bear she is vegan

-Touch is her love language, so whenever she wants to reassure her friends when they’re in distress she’d squeeze their hand slightly and be as close to them as possible

-Sometimes gets involved in things that she really shouldn’t be involved in

-Really strong

Dogday

-Dangerously selfless. Would die protecting his friends

-Has an ego on being “the leader” of the group, and is hesitant on giving that role to someone else due to his insecurity on him not having a specific specialty that makes him unique from the others (his friends loves him regardless, but he doesn’t know that until it was explicitly told to him)

-Later grew to have an interest on rock music

-Despite wearing a smile on his face, he hides his emotions deep deep down in order to not worry anyone

-A fast runner rivalling Hoppy

-Doesn’t really like sitting alone with his thoughts. Often seen doing something

-Has an older brother whom he looks up to. He’s the only family member he knows of

-Has a strong moral compass

-Can be really intimidating if he has to be

-Doesn’t bark often, his bite can really hurt though

Picky is nice. She likes to go over and eat at her house every once and a while, even helping her make food sometimes! She's kind, but can be a bit rough at times... Catnap is strange, that's the best way she can put it. He's not bad! She knows he's not very talkative, so she doesn't force him to talk. She also makes sure he's ok with her daily hugs, though she can be forgetful. And when she can't sleep... He's. ALWAYS THERE. Crafty! Her best friend ever! First person she met actually! She LOVES giving her hugs and complimenting her on her art when she can. She's such a talented artist! Bubba can be a bit much sometimes, but she doesn't mind at all. She listens to him talk on, and then she can share info she knows! But... She's a bit worried though, knowing the elephant, he stays up very often. Why he stays up, she doesn't know... She just hopes he's ok. Hoppy... Oh Hoppy. Where does she start? She's always at her games to cheer her on, even if she loses, she's there to congratulate her on being so cool! She loves watching her run around, kick the ball, everytime she cheers when she scores... It makes her heart soar!! ❤ She knows it's love, but she doesn't know how to tell her. Kickin is cool too! Not as cool as Hoppy, but still epic nonetheless. She likes being friends with him and he's actually really good at the sports he does. Though that chicken can be a little dumb sometimes, oh well. Dogday! The leader! He's always so sunny and cheerful! She loves talking with him, giving him hugs galore! He's the one that likes the hugs the most. His fur is so soft, and he even helps her out with valentine's day presents for everyone. Who could ask for a better leader?

Picky Piggy :

Bobby is a nice gal. Always there to cheer someone up. Hell, she's helped with gardening, keeping the barn good, and baking/cooking goods. Though, she can be TOO touchy sometimes, she's trying her best to learn boundaries, so she isn't pushing too much. Catnap, she doesn't care too much about. She stays out of his way, he stays out of hers. He's weird, yes, but as long as she's not bothering him, he doesn't interact. The only time they Eben kinda talk is during group activities or when they need to sleep... Creepy. Crafty is kinda silly sometimes. She makes great art, yet never seems to understand that! She always thinks she can be better, but she's already good enough. Picky herself has tried to paint, but isn't the best. Bubba is nice to talk to. He rambles on sometimes, but never really is too annoying. She doesn't mind being around him. Although he has insisted she eat less, and she's tried, but it ain't easy when you're a pig known for eating. She just ain't the best at that. Kickin and Hoppy are very similar in many ways, the most notable being they're both sporty and energetic. She likes them, they're not bad, but they have tried getting her to do a bunch of sports she doesn't care about. She's told them, and they backed off, but they keep doing it, and it's a bit annoying. Though she finds the sibling rivalry they have funny. Dogday is very nice! He's always happy and go lucky, with a big grin, an idea, and an adventure. He's energetic, yes, but not to the point she is annoyed by him. He's always trying to make sure everyone is happy and having fun, and she likes that about him.

Catnap :

He hates them all. They're so.. FUCKING ANNOYING. They talk and talk, running around.. They even pull him along on their shitty adventures! And they're always asking him to help when they can't sleep. Oh how he wishes.. HOW HE WISHES HE COULD MAKE THEM SLEEP FOREVER TO DIE AND FADE AWAY INTO OBSCURITY! He can... He knows he can, the red gas was made to put people to sleep so that [REDACTED]. But something is stopping. Not something. SOMEONE. That damn, annoying, cheerful dog. What was his problem? He was always smiles, tail wags, and happy arua and.. He... Didn't know why, but it made him feel something other than rage and anger... Something that made his own tail sway and made him heat up. What was wrong with him, why was he like this? He hated it, but also liked it..? That canine is the only reason he's even staying, why he even joined... He hates it. He hates this feeling, he hates everything but that dog! Stupid dog. .... He knows this will all come to an end. They'll figure it out eventually, that elephant already is trying to, he knows he is. He can see the elephant staring at him, analyzing him. He's seen nights where he stays up, looking up and reading through books. If he wasn't stealthy, he would have been caught by now. He wants to put him to sleep, but the chicken always comes and does that for him. That's the only time he's thankful that elephant is gay. He doesn't have to worry too much. But, still... He has to stop this. He can't let them find out. And he knows how.

CraftyCorn :

Bobby is also so kind and nice. She comes over everyday, and everyday, Crafty shows her her art! Whether that be a new piece, a WIP, an updated version of the art before, Bobby didn't care. Bobby just always loved to see how she improved, and Crafty always loved getting compliments from her. All of these love and affection she was getting showered with resulted in her gaining a bit of a crush on the lovey bear. Picky is an interesting person to be around. She's always making goods, and always sharing them with the others. Though Picky leaves most of it for herself, Crafty still finds their friendship good. So yeah. Picky isn't the best painter, but she can always teach her! Catnap is nice. She was the first person Dogday introduced him to, since they're close friends, and she found him nice. Crafty would often show him her art, knowing the cat didn't care or mind. She didn't need words, just needed a head nod and a thumbs up. They don't talk, and Crafty doesn't mind. She likes to sit in silence while Catnap just stared at her art. Or at her. She didn't know, but he was always quiet, and she never minded. Bubba and her talk. He's always supportive of her, and she can proudly show her art to him. Like a dad! She comes up to him, he asks what she needs, and she shows him her art, which he compliments. He also gives feedback and comments about her art to help her improve, which she enjoys. He explains and teaches her things too, like math and science. He's gotten her art tools to help with her art. Hoppy is nice to be around. She's energetic, fun, and loves getting dirty and messy with her. But she can be a bit too energetic and fast, which she can't keep up with at times. But they're good friends! Kickin is a prankster, but also one of the coolest people she knows! He's always doing some cool and awesome stunt fearlessly, and she appreciates that about him! She's the polar opposite of him, shy, reserved, nervous... He's so cool, she just wishes she could be even the factor of awesome he is! She gained a crush on him a while back and confessed, but he politely turned her down since he did not feel the same way. But they're still good friends, nothing changed there. The crush eventually went away. Dogday, one of her best friends! He's always running around playing, and she loves to join in. He's always showing her affection and helps plan out her art contests. She and Dogday like to go on walks through the park, and Dogday talks while Crafty sketches what she sees. She likes being around him. Though Catnap always stares at her when she hugs Dogday when he's around. Whatever..

Bubba Bubbaphant :

Bobby is a very kind and caring person. Every time he's down in the dust, she comes along to try and make him feel better. Sure she can be a bit TOO clingy and touchy sometimes, so he has to tap her shoulder with his trunk, but she's still very sweet and motherly to everyone. Though he doesn't like it when she tries to play match maker since that isn't how the mind works you can't just put people together and make it work. Picky and him don't really have a relationship in his eyes. He's tried helping with her eating a bunch of food, but she eventually gives up, so he's instead advised her to eat healthy foods. He's still trying, but it's not that easy. Catnap. He doesn't know what that.. Thing is. It's a cat, yes, but he's not like them. That weird smoke he produces, the fact they are obsessed with it when he breathes it out... Begging for more, begging to sleep... And the weird thing is, the others are just... FINE WITH THIS? This isn't normal, HE'S NOT NORMAL. He's tried researching everything, day and night, best he's found so far is that California Poppy flowers have been known to help with sleep disorders, they're no where near California! Dogday should have never taken this cat in, it's driving him insane trying to figure out what the hell Catnap is. He doesn't want to admit it but. Catnap scares him. He hates him, and yet, he's scared to anger him. Something is wrong with that cat.. He... Maybe he just needs more s l e e p... Crafty is basically his daughter. She's always looking towards him for help or guidance on her art, and he agrees, teaching her about color theory and how to draw certain things. He even gets her art supplies and other tools on her birthday and other holidays. He loves seeing her improve and get better over time. It makes him happy. Hoppy and him don't really have a relationship, much like Picky. He is impressed with her skill and endurance while sporting, but they don't really talk to much. Kickin, the dare devil, and his amazing boyfriend. He's always there for his games, to watch him surf (and also make sure he doesn't wipe out), and all in all being a supportive boyfriend. Kickin is so crazy sometimes, and Bubba can't help but find that so cute and adorable. Especially when he first met the guy. Bubba wishes he could be as strong and brave as him, but he knows Kickin loves him being the nerdy and smart guy he is, so he wouldn't change that for the world. When Bubba is stressed out and on the brink of a breakdown, he will ring up Kickin, who will rush down and comfort the elephant. This is the same for the amount of nights he's spent staying up researching. Kickin will just go into his house, and if Bubba's still up, he's dragging him to bed to sleep. He fights back, but it falls on deaf ears as he snuggles with him. He loves him as much as can. Dogday was always someone he found interesting. His huge bursts of energy, excitement, and the want to make sure everyone is included intrigued him. He never knew how the dog had so much in him, but he never cared too much. It is nice to see he was happy as always at least. He's tried asking and telling him about Catnap and how maybe getting them addicted to the red smoke he produced is not good for them, but he always has to look on the bright side of everyone. It's a nice trait, but it's also detrimental when Catnap is most likely hurting them. He just wishes the dog wasn't so naive...

Hoppy Hopscotch :

She and Bobby always had a great relationship, finding comfort in one another. Bobby cheers her on at her matches with Kickin, and she helps Bobby work out. Though what shocked her the most about the nice, respectable, motherly bear is the sheer strength that women possesses. She thought she was strong, yet that women had muscle. She always found it hot though, so she can't complaining. Especially when she can get carried after a tough match. So she happily takes it. She can't wait to ask her out. Picky is nice. She makes amazing food, and she likes rough housing sometimes. Though while she tries to get Picky to work out and pay sports, the gal always turns down the favor, not liking to or wanting to, which she respects (for the most part). But she's still nice! She doesn't mind Catnap. They don't get to interact much, since she's always running around and he much rather sleep the whole day. The only times they interact is when she accidentally bumps into him while he's sleeping or when he's helping them with sleep. Catnap seems like a nice guy though! Crafty was fun to tease sometimes. The girl is always shy and jumpy, so it can be funny to prank her sometimes. Though she knows she can be very easily scared, so she always puts it on the low for her pranks. She also knows that she shouldn't make her mad... That didn't go well when she ACCIDENTALLY ruined one of the paintings she was working on.. Hoppy couldn't play soccer with a broken leg. But they're good friends, even after that! Bubba can be annoying at times, always talking about his science mumbo jumbo, whatever (no clue what the hell Kickin sees in him). It can get very boring very fast for her, she doesn't really care at all about it. But he's not a bad person, he's the one they go to for medical help when they get hurt after all. He's trained and knows much more than she ever could, so she respects him for that. She just wishes he wouldn't ramble on sometimes. Ah, Kickin! Her enemy and rival... Or well, brother. She and Kickin have been siblings for a long time now, ever since her parents found the small egg in a bush while walking, thus took him in. She grown attached, and ever since, they've been the sporty duo who fight to win. Even though he has WAY too much of an ego sometimes, he's a good brother and she wouldn't ever ask for anyone else. She loves to pull his leg and mess with the ego filled chicken, though sometimes it backfires on her. Like the time she started the "prank wars" with him. It resulted in both her and him getting scolded and being put in "time out" essentially. She and Dogday get along very well! He's the most energetic out of everyone, even Kickin, so getting to run around with him and play all sorts of fun hyperactive games really helps with all the energy she saves up. He also is really good at fetch, so they will often play it. Fun guy all around! No wonder he's the leader.

KickinChicken :

Bobby and him get along, she loves to just show him affection to the max, and he doesn't mind it. Except for sometimes when she just runs up to him and hugs him out of the blue. He doesn't like that. He also hates it when she just states hugging him without asking. Though she had tried to improve and stop doing that, which he likes. So she's not that bad! He doesn't mind Picky that much. He wished she would play sports with them more, but he can't force her. She makes food for their events, which he enjoys, so she's not that bad. But they just don't interact a lot. Catnap is ok. He helps them sleep when they can't, like a thundering night or after a nightmare, so the guy's cook. But Bubba had gone on rants about the guy and how something wasn't right about him, making him a little afraid or scared of the guy. Though Bubba could just be anxious and paranoid, so he's still giving Catnap the benefit of the doubt. Crafty is a sweet girl! Kind, shy, nervous, and a great artist! Though he overlooks the girl due to her quietness, he also sees her as a friend. He tries to teach her how to speak louder and be more assertive, but the poor woman can't bring herself to do so, thinking she'll come off mean and rude, no matter how much he reassures her. Her art is amazing, but she's so shy she couldn't even show him at first since she thought he was gonna find it childish and dumb. He wishes she could express herself more. Bubba! What a sweet gentleman. Always telling him new facts and things he found out, and when he sees a cool plant, that man will list off what plant it is, how to grow it, and what not. He also helps him when he gets hurt, which is often, so he's thankful for that. He's there to comfort him when he gets scared (which is easily) and make sure he's ok. He loves playing with Bubba's big floppy ears when he's stressed. It calms him down, and helps him relax. Anyways, both he and Bubba make mistakes, yes, like the time he and him had a small argument because he accidentally broke one of Bubba's favorite mugs, but he wouldn't love anyone else. He just loves snuggling into that guy. He couldn't get enough! He also always helps the other with his sleeping issues, since that poor guy has been staying up more often. So he goes over, drags him to bed, then cuddles with him under a weighted blanket. It helps Bubba fall asleep. He wishes he could stop staying up multiple nights, but he insists that it's for a reason and that he has to continue his research. But he'll continue to help him, no matter what. Hoppy, his sister, is a pain in the ass. But also his friend. She always teases him and messes with him just to spite him. She's been like that for years. He and her fight about random small things, and always try to beat and top the other in what they're doing, causing a competition between them. A constant battle basically. They're always at each other trying to be better than the other, whether that be in sport, baking, running, anything. Like siblings always do. She's a great big sister though, has helped him through tough times, and he can't be more grateful. Dogday is like that guy you always see around the block. Always running, always doing things, always happy and excited, and just a great guy overall. He goes to him when he needs to plan things with the group or ask him when an we went is happening. He also goes to him just to pay video games and fetch with him, since the dog loves that game. He's so sweet sometimes.

Dogday :

He finds everyone as his best friend! They're all nice to him and, as their leader, he must make sure everyone is happy and included! However, Bubba has been telling him that Catnap could be a danger to the group, and how the red smoke is causing problems for them, and how maybe Catnap isn't a good person... He doesn't understand though! Catnap is such a sweet, adorable, quiet kitty that sleeps a lot. There's nothing wrong with him, he thinks that at least. Speaking of which, Catnap. He's been having these strange happy feelings lately around him. His purring is calming, the way he yawns and curls back up is so cute, and when he's all sleepy and tired.. He's just a ball of adorableness! Is that a word? He doesn't know. But it's how Catnap is! He just wants to give him all the kisses in the world! He's talked with Bobby about the feelings, and she says it's love. He's not sure yet though if it is love or not. Maybe he just... Really likes his best friend! That's it. Maybe...

Dogday, although sunny and joyful, can obviously get VERY stressed regularly. As if in case any of his friends get into a small fight, he gets to stay up all night trying to figure out a way to reconcile the group back together. Telling himself that "it's what the leader has to do". Of course, Craftycorn gets worried by how Dogday's house lights are still on. And decides to go check up on him. She's not as good as Catnap in helping people go to sleep, but she is non less a good company to stick around. So if Dogday declines to get to sleep right away when Crafty asks him about it, she considers perhaps doing some arts and crafts to at least ease his mind. Hopefully, him falling asleep at the desk to then be tucked him with a blanket.

More Random Smiling Critters Headcanons

DogDay And Crafty are both secretly royals who ran away. DogDay because he didn't wanna marry a princess he doesn't know and Crafty because she was sick of all the rules. Which is super ironic, because Crafty is that very princess DogDay didn't wanna marry and they fell in love anyway. (Shout out to @agusart2blue for the Princess Craftycorn thing)

Kickin, being the second critter to wake up in the morning, crows to wake everyone else up (Stereotypical, I know). The others have yet to succeed in stopping him from doing this.

Picky, as a farmgirl, is a master of DIY.

Hoppy is the only one of only two people who knows DogDay and Crafty's secret royal status. And when she thinks nobody's looking, she likes to dress up in Crafty's old dresses.

CatNap is insanely prepared for almost anything. LITERALLY almost anything.

Bubba has a huge sweet tooth.

Another thing, Catnap is the only other one who knows about the secret royals. He even has plans (and contingency plans on top of contingency plans) for when either of them either or both of them decide to accept their duties.

When it comes to card games, Bobby is undefeatable. Even when she doesn't know how to play them in the first place.

She’s so fast too, like crazy fast! I think she’s too fast though. She beats me at literally EVERYTHING. That’s okay though! I’m gonna keep getting better until I can win! But yeah. Bobby found out. I’m terrified for my life.

So we’re starting to run out of food. Catnap said to trust in the prototype and that he’s gonna save us and stuff. I call bull. We need food, not a savior! But he said the prototype has a plan, so I guess we’ll be fine. Still though, I’m getting tired of eating moldy salami.

Crafty’s starting to lose it. She started nagging me nonstop because she keeps running out of red marker. I’m gonna avoid her from now on. Her drawings are getting weird. Really weird. Like borderline creepy stuff. She’s going bonkers man, I’m telling you.

We ran out of food. Woke up this morning to Picky scoring through the rest of our god damn supply. I swear I am going to SCREAM DUDE!! So what if she’s always hungry?! She’s not the only one who needs food to survive! Unbelievable. What the hell are we going to do now?

So that was CatNap’s back up plan. Oh my god. I don’t want to even think about what I’ve done today. I recognized him. Who I ate. He was there when I first woke up. Taking notes in the corner of the room on his clipboard. I feel sick to my stomach. How long are we going to have to do this for?

Today feels special. I don’t know why. It just does. Also I’m sorry I haven’t been writing in you as much. I’m just scared of getting caught writing in this thing. What if someone reads it? What if CatNap reads it? Will he get mad at me for what I wrote a few months ago about the prototype? Maybe I should erase it. No I can’t do that, I wrote it in marker. I’m going to keep this thing hidden inside my zipper pocket for now, until I find a better spot.

There was a freaking execution today. I’m so disturbed right now. It was one of the tiny DogDays. I’m not really sure what he did, but CatNap made us all watch as he ripped the poor guy apart. He said that’s what happens if you are a heretic. That’s what happens if you speak out even the slightest against the prototype. Bubba told me that he thought one of the other minis had tattled to CatNap about what that tiny DogDay did. That’s insane. I can’t imagine any of my friends doing that to me. Would they do that to me? No, I’m being an idiot. They’d never do that. Regardless I can’t let him find this thing. I don’t want to end up like that mini.

August 8, 1996

It’s officially been a full year since the Hour of Joy. It’s weird to think about. How many full humans have I eaten by now? Maybe eight? Ten? Twelve? Twenty? I lose count. I don’t feel anything when I eat them anymore. It’s easier to imagine them without faces. I always cut off the head so I don’t have to see it. On the bright side, we finally found the pump for the soccer ball. Hoppy and I can finally start playing again. I don’t really think either of us want to though. At least not right now.

Hoppy and I had another fight today. I’m writing in this thing because Bobby made us separate. I don’t like being mad at her. I want to apologize but I’m scared to approach her right now. I miss DogDay. I don’t write about him much but I miss him. His name is kind of forbidden to even speak nowadays. Picky thinks he abandoned us. I don’t think he did. He’d never do that. But if he did I want him to come back. Everything’s falling apart without him.

Bubba got gassed. Badly. I’m so worried about him. We don’t even know why, we just walked in the room and there he was, laying on the ground with scratch marks all over him. How could CatNap have done such a thing? He’s sick. Just sick. I’ve been taking care of him now. I don’t want to leave his side. I’m worried that if I leave for a moment that something will happen to him. Hoppy’s been making me stay active. Sometimes she’s the only reason I keep going on. It’d be so easy just to end it all. She’s there for me though. I love her. God, I love her. I never want anything to happen to her. But I know something’s going to happen to her. That something’s going to happen to all of us eventually. When it happens to her though, it’s gonna happen to me next. I promise it will.

I found a boombox today. It’s really cool. I’ve been playing it for Bubba recently. He’s still asleep. I hope he wakes up soon. Did I ever mention in here that I like to dance? It’s really fun. July. It’s already July. I took that long to recover? Seriously? That was three whole months. Well, I guess loosing an eye will do that to you. I’m still surprised that Picky took care of me while I was hurt. I tried to ask her why but she didn’t respond, so I guess that was that. That doesn’t matter though. He’s alive. He’s alive. DogDay’s alive! He’s been here this entire time, sitting right below our noses and we had no clue! If I can just figure out a way to get him out then he can save us all from this mess! I know he can! Bubba woke up. He finally woke up! Oh my god, he finally woke up! It’s been how long, eight months? I’m so thankful. He’s really scared though. He must’ve been through hell. I know from experience the nightmares that stuff gives you aren’t pleasant. I can’t imagine going through that for a whole year. Poor guy.

Bubba’s been having trouble walking lately. His legs give out whenever he tries. I guess that makes sense. He hasn’t used his legs in a while. OKAY SO THAT WAS A HORRIBLE IDEA. Not only did I find absolutely NOTHING, but I almost got my head bashed in with a freaking mace! That biology teacher has gone wack. Completely wack. Then again, she’s not the only one. I still hear Hoppy. She still visits me. I’ll be in the middle of something and then I’ll just see her. I think I’m starting to hallucinate. I know that’s really bad. But I enjoy seeing her. Even if all she does is cuss me out. It gives me hope. Hope that she’s not Never mind. I shouldn’t be thinking about that. Bury that nice and deep along with the other scary thoughts. She’s not dead. She’s not dead she’s not dead she’s not dead she’s not dead.

Third year anniversary. Or is it the fourth? I don’t feel like doing the math. Bubba can walk again now, but all he does is sit against a wall. It feels like my effort was wasted, if I’m honest. He doesn’t like eating. Or sleeping. He hates sleeping. I tried to give him some books to read that I stole from the councilors office, but he ignored them. Some days he refuses to sleep so badly to the point where I have to knock him out for him to get a little shut eye. I feel bad for him. He doesn’t deserve this. If I could take his place I would in a heartbeat. Maybe if it was me instead of him I wouldn’t have messed up so horribly.

It’s one of those days where the hallucinations are bad again. Sometimes I wonder if it even is a hallucination. Am I actually seeing her? She’s looking over my shoulder right now. Watching me write. She looks so real. And the stuff she says feels so real. I want her to be real. I want to hold her in my arms. She just told me if I ever try to do that she’s going to push me off the cloud I’m on. I think she knows I wouldn’t save myself.

[OLD] So I found this Smiling Critters relationship chart and did it with my OCs because I want to talk about them more

First up is Rozzie Rockoon!

more detailed explanations of her relationships with the main cast of critters are under the cut!

DogDay:

“DogDay’s awesome! He’s totally lead guitar material.”

“Rozzie’s really fun to hang out with! She’s great at playing music too!”

Rozzie and DogDay are good friends! Rozzie admires DogDay’s leadership skills, and DogDay likes Rozzie’s music. Even though DogDay doesn’t hang out with Rozzie as much as the main critters, they enjoy hanging out together, and he often invites her to hang out when she’s around.

Bobby Bearhug:

“Bobby? She’s nice! She’s just a bit… mushy-gushy? It’s not really my style, y’know?”

“Rozzie’s an amazing musician! And she’s just as good a songwriter! I wonder if she’s working on any of my suggestions…”

Bobby considers Rozzie a good friend (no surprise there), and loves her singing! She often tries to suggest song ideas for Rozzie to write, usually having to do with love or romance. Rozzie thinks Bobby is nice, but is a bit off-put by all her lovey-dovey stuff, mainly because Rozzie hasn’t ever been interested in romantic stuff. She’s tried to make a song with her prompts, but hasn’t gotten very far.

CraftyCorn:

“Crafty’s my art sister from another mister! Love her artwork, dude!”

“Rozzie’s very nice! I love making art with her!”

Crafty is a bit shy around Rozzie at first, but they soon bond over their shared love of the arts! Crafty once designed an outfit for Rozzie’s performances, and in return, Rozzie wrote a song inspired by one of Crafty paintings.

Hoppy Hoppscotch:

“Hoppy’s so much fun! I love her energy! I bet she’d be tons of fun at a concert!”

“Rozzie’s so, so, so cool! …And really understanding, thankfully.”

Hoppy and Rozzie hit it off almost immediately, thanks to their shared tomboyishness. Rozzie tried to teach her to play the drums once. It… didn’t go so well. (Hoppy accidently tore one of the snare drums. Rozzie wasn’t upset, and the drum was easily fixed, but Hoppy decided that playing instruments probably wasn’t her thing.)

Catnap:

“Catnap seems chill! And… a little bit creepy, to be honest.”

“Rozzie’s music is lovely. But her sleep schedule could use some work.”

Rozzie doesn’t dislike CatNap, but she also can’t help but be somewhat unsettled by him. It doesn’t help that CatNap once snuck into Rozzie’s house to put her to sleep when he noticed she was up late working on a song. Catnap either doesn’t notice this, or doesn’t care. He like’s Rozzie’s music, especially her more relaxed songs.

PickyPiggy:

“Picky’s nice! She’s an awesome cook, and she’s got great taste in music!”

“Rozzie’s just peachy keen! And she likes country music, like me!”

Rozzie and Picky don’t immediately hit it off, as they have trouble finding any common ground, but they eventually find a mutual interest in country music! They probably discuss their favorite country musicians over snacks and stuff every so often.

KickinChicken:

“Kickin’s super cool! Dude’s got tons of style!”

“Rozzie rocks! She’s almost as cool as I am!”

Like with Hoppy, Kickin and Rozzie hit it off really quickly. Kickin also plays an instrument (specifically, he plays the bass guitar), so they frequently get together and have jam sessions! Him playing the bass is actually what gave Rozzie the idea to try and teach Hoppy the drums, so they could start a band together! It didn’t end up panning out, though…

Bubba Bubbaphant:

“That Bubba dude is really smart! I wish I was as good at remembering stuff as him.”

“Rozzie’s nice! And surprisingly calm when she’s not playing music.”

Bubba initially finds Rozzie to be a bit intense, but he eventually warms up to her once they interact when she’s not playing music, finding her to be actually pretty mellow and relaxed. Rozzie, on the other hand, took a liking to Bubba pretty quickly, being impressed by his memory and intelligence.

You know, you talking about a SC AU makes me think a bit. In Poppy Worldwide you said that there is, in fact, a Smiling Critters fandom and the BBI Critters know about it/are a part of it. Do you think people in-universe would make AUs of the Smiling Critters? Would the Critters know about them and gush about them? Would the Critters themselves make their own AUs?

I like to think that someone made an in-universe version of Eggritos' AMAZING Frowning Critters AU, and the crew decided that they should all cosplay it. The BBI critters would love all the AUs! I can imagine Crafty in Angel's chunky computer they bought in 2002 seeing an AU for the first time and going "wait, I never saw this before! Did they do more stuff for the show?", and then discovering what AUs and OCs are.

Crafty wants to tell the group, but doesn't know if they would be weirded out by it. She sure loves what she saw, and the concept of fanfiction, fanart and doing whatever SHE wants to do with the show amazes her. She's in a 4-hour long deepdive into Smiling Critters OCs in 2005 DeviantArt when Bobby asks her what she's doing, and she tells her about it. Bobby is amazed by the idea! It's like an evolution of what the kids at Playcare did! She then tells Hoppy, who at that time was still confined in her bed, who calls for Kickin and Dogday to come in, catching the attention of Bubba. Crafty shyly explains to them what she found, and then everyone in the tiny house is now staring at the computer screen and seeing what people have to offer. Catnap at that time was still hesitant to talk to the group, but he watched from afar, also very amused.

The group tells Angel about this, who's just "oh, makes sense!", and then Crafty dives head-first into drawing their cartoon selves to resemble their BBI bodies more. She shows Catnap her drawing, hesitant that he would hate it, but Catnap is just "you drew me???? But you only draw the people you like!!!", and Crafty tells him that she knows he's trying to be better, so why not give him that chance? And that's how they start talking to each other again.

The BBI critters all love the AUs they find! They also made some of their own: A horror one to cope with the trauma, one based in the second more "edgy" reboot where it's more of a silly rewrite (they made DayNap canon on that one), another that's a parody of the telenovelas they watch with Angel while learning pt-br, and a MLP x Smiling Critters crossover made by Crafty. They also cosplay the AUs they like the most!

DOGDAY

dogday loves holidays. especially christmas. holidays mean ; no looking after kids. It also means he gets to hang out with his friends, to hang out with you.

there's not much you can get from just around playcare, but you can get some things from out of playcare, which leads to dogday begging staff for things from the outside.

eventually, they get tired of his begging and just give it to him to shut him up, and on christmas day he tells you he has a surprise for you — then you walk to his living room to see STACKS of presents.

"all for you!" dogday chirps as he hugs you tightly. "we can hang out after, if you want to.?"

for dogday, hanging out = playing in the 'snow' all day.

CATNAP

catnap again, doesn't exactly celebrate holidays unless you force him to. which you do, every year.

you make catnap one of those itchy christmas sweaters for him to wear, it takes a bit to make him wear it but he eventually gives in.

you usually try to involve catnap in the critter's activities, which he hates. not the fact your trying; but the fact he has to be social.

either way, when playcare winds down catnap spends the night with you watching what tv shows they have and eating cookies (animal safe, of course.)

BOBBY BEARHUG

bobby loves giving, she likes receiving but LOVES giving.

meaning on christmas not only does her love multiply, but her gifts too!

she even asked her friends to set up a mistletoe just so you could both kiss under it.

everything else aside, when the sun goes down there's nothing she loves more when it comes to cuddling with you under cozy blankets drinking hot chocolate and old romantic christmas movies.

"aweee!! aren't they such a cute couple like us?"

PICKY PIGGY

picky loves to cook. she loves to cook for fun, for her friends, and mostly you.

so when christmas comes around, best believe that you'll both be in the kitchen for hours cooking stuff as the snow falls outside.

even if they don't come out THAT well, picky loves spending time with you. even if it means a burnt cookie smell lingers around her house.

"it's okay! we tried in the end, that's all that matters!"

HOPPY HOPSCOTCH

hoppy loves being outside, so having to be cooped inside was a struggle.

but when you said you could both just gear up and go outside, she was over the moon.

you both ended up getting into snowball fights and getting sick, but hoppy found it worth it.

even if it meant having to stay inside for the rest of the week.

"hey, but I mean," she started. "it's more time with you. that's good for me."

KICKIN CHICKEN

just like hoppy, he loves to be outside in any weather.

but, he's taken consideration of what you tell him.

so just to be sure this one time.. he decided to take it slow and just walk around playcare with you, in warm clothing of course.

kickin' was usually hyper, so this surprised you. but you enjoyed it. he was happy to see the snow.

"this is nice — not running around and getting sick. pretty cool if I say so myself."

BUBBA BUBBAPHANT

bubba is mostly a stay inside person, which you don't mind. being outside is not always the answer.

that didn't mean he would just study all day though, he'd try his best to please you by watching shows, cooking (the best he can.)

all the running around and watching shows made you a bit tired, so he would let you lay down on the couch with him.

"today was great," he squeezed you a bit. "thank you."

CRAFTYCORN

crafty enjoys coloring and crafts, it's in her name.

so when it comes to christmas, everything she makes is christmas themed, and a gift for you.

she even made a little christmas city made out of paper, and you loved it.

My Smiling Critters headcanons Part 2( ⚠️Poppy Playtime Orientation Book spoilers ahead⚠️)

Sometimes Bubba will mumble his thought process to himself (like Deku from Mha) and everyone just stares until someone asks if he’s done or if he’s ok

Bobby is Huggy Wuggy and Kissy Missy’s #1 fan. They’re her favorite couple.

Kickin has a high pitched scream. Hoppy once jumped from behind a bush and scared him, and she will never let him live it down for as long as she lives.

Crafty and Catnap have become good friends due to their common shyness and awkwardness. They help each other improve their social skills and stick by each other to not feel alone when the whole gang is together. (Dogday is proud of both of them)

Catnap likes to watch Crafty draw. And Crafty has even offered to teach him on a few occasions.

Picky and Bobby have a garden where they grow flowers, fruits, and vegetables together

Dogday has had to help Catnap down from trees on a few occasions

Favorite Flavor Ice Cream :
