Boarbone
Created by combining Porklin with Boanz
A beast evolved from a Porklin who had gotten lost and spent too much time around Boanz. After spending lots of time crawling around to avoid being eaten, it adapted to running on all fours. It’s hide is tough and covered in thick, stiff hairs, along with bony plates that resemble a boanz.

Porklin + Boanz
Overcoming it's fear of boanz, a porklin began to hunt and consume the apparently undead creatures, developing into a vicious alpha predator with bony plates adorning it's massive body.
--------
Originally called Boarbone, this is the last one of the originals to be traced at a higher resolution.

Skulletar
Goober + Boanz
The unfortunate result of a boanz consuming a goober and subsequently being absorbed by it's would-be prey. In spite of it's ghastly appearance, it maintains a friendly demeanor and happily guides travelers through dangerous environments.
--------
The first of the original fusions that got redesigned. I felt like the previous skulletar's face felt a little flat.

Grubby + Boanz
A vicious predator that lurks in boggy, swampy areas. It's harpoon-like proboscis is tough and sharp enough to pierce through the toughest hides to drain it's prey dry. When actual prey is scarce, they can also drain large plants of their moisture for nutrients at well.

Skulletar
Created by fusing a Goober with a Boanz
A goober which had absorbed a boanz. It’s body had become viscous and tar-like, with bones and other debris getting stuck in it. In spite of a spooky appearance and less than pleasant smell, it’s a jovial and friendly creature that guides lost travelers through dangerous terrains. It often uses flat stones as finger and palm pads.

So! I've already posted the updated art of these guys to replace the original set, but I've now got them with dex entries to provide a little lore! May or may not do individual, more detailed posts for each of these guys later!
Dex entries below the cut!
Boanz
These diminutive creatures constantly hunger, eating anything they can, from other creatures to garbage to dirt, to fill a mysterious emptiness inside themselves. Tamers are advised to have plenty of snacks available or use appetite suppressants to avoid bites being taken out of them.
Tads
Large polywogs that enjoy damp environments and water. In spite of their underdeveloped legs, they can hop quite a distance.
Grubby
Large, green grubs that are a staple of many predators’ diets. To try to defend themselves, they curl into balls and roll as fast as they can to escape.
Maji
It is unknown what the true form of Maji is beneath it’s cloak and hat. They enjoy stargazing on mountaintops, dreaming of crafting powerful spells.
Rox
Living geodes that seem to wander aimlessly. Judging by how often they bump into things, they appear to be either blind or careless, the latter of which they can afford to be due to how very few things will eat rocks. They have an attraction towards vibrations.
Pippin
Friendly little angels that enjoy helping others. They appear to feed on the gratitude of those whom they aid.
Dervin
Mischievous little devils that enjoy playing tricks on humans, such as moving things while nobody is looking or suddenly shrieking to startle people.
Bulbo
Creatures that resemble sentient plant bulbs. They spend the daytime with their root-like feet buried in the ground as they bask in the sun. At night, they wander in search of water.
Furbin
These highly-adaptable, energetic balls of fur tend to make great pets for children. When food is scarce, they become less active to save energy.
Chikki
Birds that are commonly seen in forested areas, they primarily hunt Grubbies and forage for berries and nuts. The brightness and vibrancy of their crests seems to be an indicator of their overall health.
Dragling
Vicious red lizards that prefer warm or dry climates. They are highly protective of what they deem to be theirs, and spit flames to fight rivals.
Porklin
Small in stature and timid in nature, Porklins wield a surprising amount of strength to protect themselves from predators. They seem to have an intense fear of Boanz.
Skwire
Skwires train with each other endlessly to become great warriors, wielding wooden swords and shields to fight.
Gidget
In the past it was thought that Gidgets and Royaplushes were abandoned toys that came to life. Gidgets are highly social and seem to have a fear of being alone.
Goober
Friendly blobs that seem to enjoy the company of others, and seem unaware of the possible dangers around them. Their eyes float freely in their translucent bodies, but it’s unknown if they actually register anything due to a visible lack of brain.
Spikorn
Strange, rodent-like lizards, they gnaw on metals that they somehow incorporate into the spikes on their shells. The ones with bigger spikes are often viewed as higher in rank.
Gupple
Simple-minded fish that protect themselves by spitting jets of water. They seem capable of traveling on land for short distances, and are surprisingly good at jumping.
Sparkin
These living power cores seem to hibernate when summer hits in an attempt to prevent overheating and exploding.
Mushtool
Mushroom-like creatures that dwell in caves. Their springy bodies give them a strong resistance to impacts. Their short limbs are amazingly effective at digging.
Royaplush
Along with Gidgets, these were thought to be discarded toys that came to life to enact a grudge for being abandoned. While the truth of their nature is still unknown, Royaplush are favored by children for their soft, warm bodies. Though many find their large, glassy eyes to be unnerving.

When someone wanna try to talk shit about Leonard "Bones" McCoy as a Star Trek doctor on this the day of our Lord right in front of my croissant:
We a touch touchy 'bout our Boanz, fren. That's our BONES.
You best be careful with your words when the doc's name come out that mouth, dumplin'.
Oh you think you got somethin' to say about Leonard Horatio McCoy? You wanna square up?
Do I have to roll up my sleeves and get to fisticuffs on behalf of my Sweet Southern Gentleman's honour?
*Menacingly* Oh bless your heart, dear. Bless your heart.
You must like the taste of hospital food.
Inspired by this post on reddit of someone attempting to shade Bones but the Trekkies let. Them. Have it.
(I'm really just kidding here guys, please don't in all seriousness be mean to anyone on the internet. Have civil discussions, don't call the police on me please-)
Gif sources: Gfycat
Edit:
My actual response to the reddit thread about Bones bc you know I simply couldn't resist picking up for Bones. (*shaky voice* I love him, dad.)
How you say something can matter just as much as what, though.
Do your best to be respectful and civil to each other; after all, we are all here because we love Star Trek. IDIC!🖖💚
1shirt2shirtredshirtdeadshirt:
"Bones isn't saying he is 100% ignorant about the physiology of Vulcans, he is saying that he feels uncomfortable as a professional carrying out an experimental procedure that he has never done firsthand in those conditions. There were a lot of factors that made this particular event very stressful for Bones.
While he has read about the procedure in practice, he has never done any real-world field application of the Vulcan surgical techniques and training that he did receive.
He's not saying "I don't know how to do this" -- clearly, because he does the procedure successfully.
He is saying "I've never done this procedure in real life on a living Vulcan; as a medical professional, this is a highly unusual and a risky situation with the stressors compounded (ship shaking all over the place, experimental blood transfusions, attempted murder and mayhem afoot).
He is saying "I'm scared to do this on my best friend slash the best first officer in the fleet plus his dad who is an immensely valuable diplomat in this insane set of circumstances."
What sane doctor doesn't feel nervous about performing a highly experimental medical procedure plus surgery on two individuals who have no backup blood on board if things go sour? (Spock was able to experimentally generate just enough Vulcan blood to do the procedure so if anything went awry, they'd both die).
Plus the fact that the ship was getting thrown all over the place while he was performing delicate heart surgery . . . I feel like all things considered, McCoy had a justifiable right to be nervous and say so.
That's also something I loved about his character; he was fallible, humble, and had no qualms voicing when he felt out of his depth or uncomfortable. But in that same breath, if someone -- anyone -- needed his help despite his reservations, he'd always step up to the plate to try to help."
