2. Day-to-day Travelling

Obviously the following applies not just to Brisbane, where Bluey’s family live, but to a lot of cities.

Bluey’s family live in a typical residential suburb, mostly single-family homes… although it’s a suburb that seems to have other land uses nearby (like a planetarium) and they are close to the downtown. They also have a bus stop near their home.

While there are walkable mixed-use areas (meaning they contain a mix of different uses) in Brisbane, like the commercial district near the restaurant in “Favorite Thing” and the riverfront touristy area across the river from downtown in “Ice Cream”, to complete regular daily activities (e.g. to work, go to school, complete errands, etc.) Bluey’s family routinely drives for most trip purposes.

Trips for purposes such as:

Grocery shopping

Picking up Chinese food

Trip to the home improvement superstore Hammerbarn

Visits to Bluey’s friends and family

Errands like trip across the city to pick up a used surfboard in “Show and Tell”

School and daycare trips: Bluey attends a specialty school in a rural area that parents have to drive to.

Note that there’s also very little traffic on the streets in “Bluey” Brisbane, even though real-life Brisbane has significant traffic. It could be said that this makes driving look slightly more attractive than it actually is.
