Uh, do I need to apologize for indirectly promoting the idea of a lower-quality sideblog? (And was I the first to notably do that, or did I get that idea from someone else? Hmn.)
it's a strange feeling, finding out two of my favorite tumblr blogs from back in high school were the same person the entire time

what are gnomic utterances?
things that are surreal in a very particular way. you know when you turn a piece of embroidery over and see all the chaotic tangled threads on the back that are still sort of in the shape of the design on the front? or when you're playing a glitchy video game and you accidentally clip through a wall and and see the hollow backsides of what was supposed to be the scenery? 'gnomic utterances' is my tag for things that make me feel like that about reality

david chalmers is a real person but also a literary character that has a recurring role on my blog. i dont think the real guy cares all that much about philosophical zombies beyond the basic premise of a thought experiment related to the hard problem of consciousness. but the fake david chalmers who lives on my blog could not possibly relent from his fearless crusade to identify the imposter people who lack qualia, he's desperate to save physicalism by showing how we can construct empirical ways of differentiating the wheat from the chaff. there are missing persons cases tangentially associated with the NYU philosophy department that have run cold. fmri data has proved inconclusive but the postdoctoral acolytes and their grad students have resorted to studying vedanta and practicing breath control in search of other avenues. one day there will be a breakthrough that will exonerate them their blasphemy. or there will be a missed bribe that will send law enforcement flooding in by the hundreds to put a stop to the illegal and sacrilegous experiments being done on alleged zombies who cannot be proven not to lack the light of a human soul

The first verse that stopped me in my tracks when I was rereading the Bible as an exchristian was Romans 7 verse 18. "For I know nothing good dwells in me."
I read that verse and I grabbed a pen and I underlined it and wrote in the margin, "For I know that good dwells in me."
It felt so powerful, to finally speak back after hearing these messages so passively before. And I was able to see the seeds of my harmful core beliefs in these verses: my learned helplessness, my low self esteem, my depression, and my fear. And I just kept going, underlining and rewriting verses that I thought were harmful. And those verses and the notes in the margin of my childhood bible eventually became this account.
I’ve been running this blog since 2020 and it’s been a wonderful experience, connecting with other people who are deconstructing or deconverting from Christianity, sharing our joy and our grief, trading tips on dealing with evangelizers, and recommending authors and other creators who are doing great things in this space.
I try to write what would have been helpful to me early on in my deconstruction. I know how difficult it is retrain our brains to stop reinforcing painful patterns. Because letting go of harmful Christian behaviors is in some ways harder than letting go of the beliefs themselves.
Thank you for following, liking, and sharing my work. It means the world to me that we have this opportunity to see the good in each other.

idk it just feels weird that when this website blows up in outrage over a person getting termed that person is almost always a transfem, when other trans people got termed in the same way there isn't a peep out of anybody

And that I'm not the only one who gets annoyed to see Obama voters whose positions are still those of a modal 2010 Democrat talk about "we on the right."
In your opinion, is the blog mitigatedchaos "right-wing"?

Discord Server: House of Vampire Milfs (1977)
It’s October and I think we’re due for another promo post! Very chill, 18+ horror themed Discord server.
We frequently stream movies and TV shows, and do occasional book clubs. I also run TTRPG one shots for server regulars. As Halloween is approaching we will be doing more horror movie streams, particularly.
We have dedicated channels for: the Vampire Chronicles/Interview With the Vampire, the Locked Tomb, Dracula, Hellsing, Succession, and Game of Thrones. Generally we talk a lot about most horror media and some anime as well.
Message me if you’d like an invite link!

Update: I was unexpectedly laid off from my day job!
It’s a big loss and I’m still reeling, but I also see this as an opportunity to spend more time creating ex-Christian content. My work on this blog has been incredibly meaningful to me over the last few years. I hope it has been to you, too.
If you can support me on Patreon, it would really help me make progress in my ongoing projects:
The UnDevotional: A book featuring my top rewritten verses along with essays and exercises.
Mere ExChristianity: A book that responds to C.S. Lewis’s famous work and reclaims morality from Christianity.
Patreon: A private blog with patron-exclusive essays, chapter drafts, and illustrations.
joyfulapostate: This blog right here, now with more rewritten verses, deconstruction essays, and ex-Christian illustrations.
If you aren’t able to support me on Patreon, I am still deeply grateful for your attention (as well as your likes and reblogs).

Hello again, apologies for the longer-than-expected absence. I’m sorry if my last post had anyone worried. My health problems are much better, but real life stuff got super busy and the next thing I knew it was April?? 2w 7m. Thank you to everyone who sent kind messages!
I’m going to answer some of the asks folks have sent me and then we’ll get back to the reread.
There will also be a new schedule, or lack thereof. I was really excited by the idea of posting one chapter a day, but turns out I have too much to say for that to stay feasible. I’ll be posting sporadically whenever I get the chance, but don’t worry if there are interruptions. I’ll be back soon enough.
Thank you again for your patience, and for reading. And for forgiving when I accidentally queue personal posts to this blog (jesus that was embarrassing…)
And now, let’s continue the voyage!
