Sassy the Columbian blacktail deer shoo'd away the buck in the yard to have a bit of a sniff at my hand and then take her fawns to the oat tray.

i was a weird wolf kid and got bullied for it so when i was a teenager whenever someone would ask my favorite animal in my head id be like no i cant say wolf thats so cliche... so id usually say cheetah or tiger or magpie. this post has no point i just think its hilarious that part of my self actualization was admitting that my favorite animal actually is still a wolf

if there might be a mountain lion it’s like if your boss might walk by and catch you slacking off :(
for me in WI an important part of the peace of the forest was knowing I was large and strong and capable of intimidating any animals in there out of trying to eat me (There weren’t rly bears by us). It’s different out here in CA with mountain lions. :(

I was texting in the public restroom on my break today and I heard noises on the tile and thought someone had come in and so i went to put my phone away and leave but when I looked up I realized it was just a deer that had wandered into the restroom and I was relieved so I went back to scrolling
It took a few more seconds for my critical thinking skills to catch up to the present but Im glad Im at a point in my life where a blacktail deer can wander into a medical center bathroom and my default process is: well I know she isnt gonna narc on me and her presence is none of MY business either so we're cool

My friend asked me what she could send me that could make up for her not being here to give me a hug and break things with me in a fit of catharsis, and here's what I thought of.
A thousand dollars. Fuck, ten thousand dollars.
A massage. Like a long one that leaves me feeling like overcooked spaghetti afterwards.
A video of her telling me she still thinks I'm cool, even though I'm sick with the cold my two-year-old brought home from daycare and I can't do ANYTHING.
Some ozempic, even though I do and will always stand for the liberation of my own fat body. It's just exhausting trying to fight against so much social hatred just to like myself.
A big box of those gluten-free stroopwafels.
Some of her art - whatever it is she's working on right now.
A guide on how to start a community center, where I can teach free yoga and run a tea/coffee shop with a bakery staffed only by formerly incarcerated folx with a big community garden outside and a food pantry and a playground and weekly free dinners.
A thousand dollars.
Her most recent favorite poem.
The smell of the first snow from her little Oregon mountain town. The sound of the blacktail deer and the coyotes skittering away while we're on an early morning run. The sight of Mt. Shasta, covered in white and streaming clouds bright with the sunrise.
An appointment for a new tattoo.
The surgery my dog needs.
A thousand dollars. A thousand dollars, so I can get her on a plane, and give her that hug, and then we can go break things.

A little guy greeted me outside my home the other day when I came back from the store! I was awestruck that he was so close and looking at me, but he started slowly walking away when I tried to take a picture 😞
