I had an unexpected medical emergency a few months ago that really decimated my savings. My partner and I both work full time but it's looking like we still won't have enough to afford rent this month. I keep seeing this argument everywhere so let me explain in the simplest terms I know how why this is not a good argument against TMA/TME.

TMA describes people who are transfeminized. This means people who express femininity/feminine gender identity that conflicts with their gendered assignment. This includes the intersex and non binary people we mean it to include. It is not based on biological sex or being binary.

Can it be argued that other kinds of people be included under that definition? Sure. I'm TMA in a way that is not well known but this does not mean it is a flaw of these terms that must be rectified by dropping them completely.

TME describes everyone else. Those who are not the intended targeted of marginalization that would attack them for being transfeminized. People who do not express femininity or a feminine gender identity in conflict with their assignment. Regardless of what their biology is.

No having transmisogyny directed at you does not make you TMA. No being mistaken as a trans woman does not make you TMA. You being the misdirected target of transmisogyny is not as traumatizing as being its intended one.

If you're so insistent on making a fucking comparison to race let me give you one as an actual goddamn mixed person. I am black and Native. I am targeted by anti-blackness and anti-Indigeneity. Just because I look like an Indian person or an East Asian person and may be attacked by those forces doesn't make me the primary target of them. Just because my Filipino friend got told they had a n*gg*r nose as a kid doesn't mean they are the intended target of anti-black racism. The equivalency being made by people is akin to saying that I am a primary target of anti-Asian or anti-Indian violence or that my friend is now meaningfully targeted by anti-black racism.

You don't know what you're trying to say. In fact you're making a comparison you don't have the life experience to make.

It's actually really goddamn simple. Stop trying to obscure what these words mean because you don't want to accept you have privilege. I have privilege. Everyone has privilege.

It's okay to admit that some of you don't actually understand how oppression dynamics work.
