Kosmo Mono 100 x Seagull TLR
Well it has been some time since I’ve gotten around to writing about photography. It’s not that I haven’t been thinking about it or shooting when I can… It’s just been some time since I’ve had the time to sit down and write down my thoughts. So here goes some film photo talk about a roll of film I shot last fall, I think it was late October into early November. Scene 1. Late last fall I took a…

Irish Rail's Wicklow Cabin—Armstrong Levers at Work.
In the summer of 1998, Denis McCabe and I paid a visit to Wicklow Cabin on the Dublin & South Eastern route. Working with Ilford HP5 35mm film loaded in a Nikon, I exposed this photograph of the signalman working the old mechnical frame. I don’t recall his name, but he was friendly and enjoyed having his photo made. I processed the film in Ilford ID11, and many years later scanned the negatives…

Fishing against the Light (and rain)
This photo I shared eight years ago is a great example of contre-jour, the term for shooting directly into the light source.
Some dish for fun while others fish for food by Luther Roseman Dease II This photo I shared eight years ago is a great example of contre-jour, the term for shooting directly into the light source. Luther explains that the light creates a form of the subject without releasing its precious and cluttered details unto photography’s artistry. See many more examples in his Contre-Jour gallery on…

Like a Leica
Ok, let’s not get too carried away – I haven’t won the lottery – but I do actually have a Leica lens, albeit attached (permanently) to my old Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 pocket camera. I bought this camera back in 2009, mainly because the photographic stalwart, Charlie Waite, was advertising them. Now I’m not sure if Charlie ever actually used one, but it was convincing enough for me to be won over.…

Kodak TMAX 400 x Nikon | Autumn 2021 - Summer 2022
Kodak TMAX 400 x Nikon | Autumn 2021 – Summer 2022
So this is a bit of an accompaniment piece to my last post as I had to change a roll of film on location to get a few more shots of the Civitan Club building in Smiths Falls. I had been shooting a roll of Kodak TMAX 400 and the roll abruptly ended at 24 frames… I was confounded and confused for a moment thinking my trusty F4 had jammed up or something and then quickly realized after rewinding the…
