rick's crybaby backstory. that's what he calls it. he had wife (diane) and kid (beth) for whom he was going to give up science entirely (big deal for a rick, apparently he's the only one who was willing to do that !) enter Rick Prime. remember how the multiple realities and multiple versions of characters is a big plotpoint. yea. this Other Rick shows up and tries to get our rick hooked on interdimensional traveling but he refuses! bc he says it sounds lonely! ARGH so prima kills his wife and kid. oh well. we Later find out he's been killing everyone's diane and in fact invented a device that allows you to kill evert version of someone throughout every dimension. so rip diane forever and ever

so our rick goes on a revenge spree. he invents his own portal gun - apparently every other rick borrows their portal gun from prime who's the only one who built it himself. besides Our rick. and starts tracking prime down killing a bunch of other ricks in the process. so many in fact that those remaining build. the citadel of ricks. stay with me. it's like. idk a space station something where a bunch of ricks and their morties live and or stop by to mind their business. whatever. so this haunt for rick prime and killing himself over and over is what eventually gets our rick, who was gonna choose his family and human connections over science and adventure, to be as jaded and nihilistic and Alcoholic as every other rick before and after him. f in the chats for my man

so when the premise of the show is "rick had abandoned beth as a child and randomly crashed into her garage and settled down w her a couple of decades later" we know that's Wrong and that he's been on a quest to avenge her and her mom for all those years. aight. now it also ties into the overarching Plot of rick and morty bc during his quest to kill rick prime our rick also got in general trouble w the Galactic Federation who's like. big ass space government. and made friends w people who want to overthrow it. so he helps fight it yippie. this is how he meets my BELOVED birdperson and squanchy The Boys™ gang gang. we don't have time to discuss that rick's in love w birdperson maybe next time. the federation seems to be permanently dead rn if you care

by evil morty i mean THEE mvp i think some of the most iconic episodes revolve around him he got fed up w his rick and almost killed him put like some computer shit inside of him to control him like a little mechanical puppet. slay. then he went on to. become president of the citadel. slay. and revealed his Final Plan of killing a bunch of ricks and morties to create a portal that would get him out of the. my god. central finite curve. which we find out it's basically. every universe in which rick exists as the smartest being. evil morty's Evil Plan is simply to get out from under ricks' collective thumb and live by himself for himself. there's like a whole morty black market around the universe bc ricks use morties GOD I DON'T WANNA GET INTO IT IT'S SUCH BULLSHIT ACTUALLY but evil morty is my sweetheart he was right he did nothing wrong. he had a convo w our morty that knocks your tits clean off that goes like "if you've ever been sick of him you've been evil too" or "he's attached to us infinitely through his weakness and our forgiveness" like it slaps. it slaps i'm sorry what can i say

EVEN FUCKING SADDER it's like rick has a bunch of random enemies that bother him pissmaster being one of them jerry fuckin Destroys him and it's so humiliating that pissmaster. kills himself and his daughter's looking for him and it pulls at rick's weak spot so he. dresses up. as pissmaster. and sets up this fucking. suicide mission where he saves people from a bomb but dies in the process to kinda. give pissmaster a. proper sendoff. give his daughter closure. you know. it was SAD OK!!!! Unforgettable scenes - Rick finally reveals his backstory

Adult Swim just uploaded the full scene of Rick’s backstory, so now we can share it without worrying about copyright!  It reminds me of when fans used to upload individual fight scenes from ATLA.  Eventually the official channel just uploaded it to YouTube, leading one person to joke: “They saw all these *****ty versions with bad editing and Breaking Benjamin songs added and just thought...fine, I’ll just do it myself.”

Some of the largest YouTube channels in “Rick and Morty” fandom have predicted since the “Eternal Sunshine” episode that Rick’s backstory flashback was actually true.  Yes, Rick really did watch his family die in front of him, and having to relive the memory did bring back trauma.  The only part that wasn’t true was how quickly he made his own breakthrough and traversed dimensions.

Rick does invent the portal gun, but it looks less like the familiar icon and more like the rough version from Birdperson’s memory.  It is implied that this new escape allows Rick to recover from what happened, but then he promptly begins seeking revenge...with a moral compass that has gone out of whack.  He deals weapons, the very thing Morty had had so much trouble grappling with morally.  He obtains a memory crystal and has no issue killing the illegal weapons traders before they double-cross him - in fact, his indifference may imply that he had planned to double-cross them first.  He continues his search and eats noodles in a Japanese-looking setting, which is very reminiscent of “Blade Runner,” then goes on a detour to fight the Federation.  After his falling out with Bird Person, Rick apparently loses the friendship that could have allowed him to let go.  He finds the universe where he believes his tormentor resides.  Rick apparently remains in one dimension with many Ricks, kills countless Ricks (using his portal gun as a teleporter), and then realizes just how far he has come...only to not get revenge.

So at this point, with no hope of killing the one actually responsible, Rick simply kills everyone attempting to kill him (since he does look like a rampant rogue threat, after all).  A few Ricks surrender to him.  They found the Citadel together, and then Rick returns to a universe with an abandoned Beth.  She is shocked to see him because she believes he left her, and not that he actually watched her die.

A few of the comments stood one.  One user said that it tied the rocky season together - even the “dumb” sperm episode, with its line about always being honest, actually came into play here.

What is the lie?  What is Rick now being honest about?  Wisecrack debated this question in their podcast, mainly focusing on character relationships, but I think this is more of a nod to the audience.  Yes, this really is Rick’s backstory.  No more pulled punches.  No more wondering if it was just fabricated, or if none of it matters...because it does matter to him.

Although there’s been little official news for Rick and Morty season 6, fans can rest assured that the Adult Swim show will be returning for another installment. After a brief delay, the Rick and Morty season 5 finale dropped on September 5, 2021, with episodes 9 and 10 airing back-to-back as a one-hour special.

Rick and Morty season 5 has been a mixed bag, containing some of the show’s best — and arguably, worst — episodes to date. The outing “Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort” was particularly memorable, offering insight into Rick’s past while setting up a storyline for his future. Although the hiatus between episode 8 and the two-part finale surprised many, it was likely a calculated move by Adult Swim, which has invested heavily in their irreverent animated adult comedy.

Leading up to the Rick and Morty season 5 finale, Adult Swim built up hype for the show with unique live-action promos with Christopher Lloyd as Grandpa Rick. While these may or may not have been hinting at a possible live-action movie(most likely the latter), the teasers that took the internet by storm. Clearly, expectations are high for the show going forward. Here’s what we know so far about Rick and Morty season 6.

Rick and Morty has already been renewed for season 6. Since Adult Swim renewed Rick and Morty for 70 episodes back in 2018, and each season has comprised 10 episodes, viewers can expect Rick and Morty to continue until approximately season 10. The Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland series shows no signs of slowing down, and season 6 (and 7) scripts are already being written; however, an exact release date for the show’s next installment is not yet known.

An optimistic guess would predict Rick and Morty season 6 debuting in late-summer 2022, assuming Adult Swim wants to release new episodes roughly the same time each year. Unfortunately, history indicates a different pattern: after the show was renewed in 2018, it took approximately one year and four months for season 4 to debut. Furthermore, there was more than a year between when season 4 ended and season 5 began. Based on those production timelines, Rick and Morty season 6 won’t likely debut until October 2022 at the earliest.

Not much is known about the stories planned for Rick and Morty season 6, but the main characters — Rick, Morty, Summer, Beth, and Jerry — will almost certainly be back for more shenanigans. Rick and Morty season 5 introduced new characters who could return, like Morty’s ex, Planetina, or U.S. marine Coop (who was left traumatized after being transformed into a turkey — all while serving his country). The return of Birdperson in episode 8 sets up an emotional reunion for him and Rick in the future, while the multiple appearances by President Curtis suggest he could be a recurring character in Rick and Morty going forward.

Rick regrets being stupid enough to marry the first girl who was ever nice to him. That girl was Diane. They married shortly after she graduated high school. Rick dropped out during junior year, though she convinced him to get his GED later, thinking his success depended on having a solid education.

While Rick loves his daughter, Beth, he regrets the fact that he had been stupid enough to give into society’s herd instincts of having a family. He believes Diane would have been better off without ever meeting him.

THREE PHOBIAS / FEARS YOU MUSE HAS .   

Rick despises spiders. He’s feared them as long as he can remember. He knows how only four species in Florida are venomous, but it does not stop him from tensing up in the presence of any variety. He has a hard time killing them, even with a laser gun. He’ll freeze up and stare at them for a long time, only springing into action when the spider moves quick and fast. As of late, he tries to get Mimi and Ricky to kill spiders for him if they’re around.

Sobriety terrifies Rick. He cannot imagine living a day perfectly straight. With how he’s abused his body over the years, he needs to drink each day to avoid alcohol withdrawal. And even when he’s not partying, you can catch him snorting a bump of K-lax or coke early in the morning with his coffee. He uses drugs and alcohol in excess to escape from the realities of the world. He does not like dealing with real emotions.

Speaking of real emotions, love scares Rick more than any other. Familial love bothers him, as it makes him more loyal and caring than he’d ever admit, but being head-over-heels over someone is what keeps him up at night. He always tries to tell himself how love is just a chemical that compels animals to breed. He tells himself fucking is more honest and efficient than making love. He thinks staying tied down to one person is nearly impossible. However, this logic hasn’t kept him safe from falling in love with Ricky.

FOUR HEADCANONS YOU HAVE FOR THEM THAT YOU NEVER TOLD ANYONE .

Rick was not one of the cool kids growing up. In fact, he was a nerd all throughout school. It didn’t matter quite as much in grade school, but middle school and high school were low points in his life. Jocks liked stuffing him into lockers and giving him swirlies. Nobody ever invited the science geek to their parties. Rick always told himself one day he’d be too cool for all of them, but in reality he just wanted a place where everyone could hang without it being some lame popularity contest.

Since sometimes science is more art than science (and a lot of people don’t get that), Rick took up playing guitar at age thirteen. One of the first songs he successfully covered was Don McClean’s “American Pie.” Between playing the guitar and conducting science experiments, he kept himself occupied enough to forget about the fact that nobody really liked him at school.

Shortly after Rick married Diane, he discovered intergalactic travel via portal gun. During his travels of the multiverse, Rick met both Birdperson and Squanchy at a wild party on planet Klutox. The three became fast friends. It didn’t take long for them to form a band, though their version of the Flesh Curtains had a New Wave twist. He invited Diane to come along on their tours, though she seldom came since she told Rick how holding down her job and paying the rent on their shared apartment mattered, too.

Diane hoped the birth of their daughter would finally make Rick calm down, but Beth’s birth only made Rick intergalactic travel and partying increase. He had trouble coming to terms with the fact he’d actually brought another human life into this already overpopulated world. He had no idea how to raise her right, still being relatively young himself and without a great example from his own father. He often came home totally wasted. One time, while playing airplane with his daughter drunk, he accidentally dropped young Beth, giving the poor girl a concussion and a trip to the ER. This put a serious wedge between Diane and Rick, and she never trusted him to be alone with their daughter again.

Rick originally sought Miami out for camouflage against the Galactic Federation, but their relationship quickly became so much more than that with countless adventures while Rick took a year off from his club. Rick groomed Miami into the finest dancer Blue Velvet ever saw, only for it to all be taken away from him when the family became wise to the situation. Even without his trademark blond locks, Miami still retains the sass and confidence Rick instilled him with. He also accepts Mimi and trusts him to take care of his grandfather.

Ricky (@protegc) - The new love of Rick’s life! He never thought he’d love again after what happened in the past with Diane, but bam! There’s Ricky to fuck up the status quo. While they haven’t known each other for long, Rick already knows he loves Ricky. And it scares him to death. He doesn’t want to have something beautiful with someone and ruin it all somehow. He also thinks Ricky’s too good for him.

Mimi (@miamihxtness) - An alternate version of Rick’s grandson, Rick cares about Mimi a great deal, even though he wouldn’t readily admit that under normal circumstances. He’s grateful Mimi came with him the day he scouted him out. Even though the arrangement began as temporary, Rick hopes Mimi stays by his side for the rest of his days.

Moonrock (@moonrockshot) - An older Morty who’s a royal pain in Rick’s ass. This little shit makes his own club and drags Rick on adventures when he’s majorly hung over. Despite their constant spats, Rick actually has a soft spot for Moony. He wishes Moony would stick around more, but he doesn’t expect him to, as much as it pisses him off.

Miami C-114 (@sun-loving-boy) - An alternate version of his grandson, Rick feels a connection with the kid despite not knowing him well yet. This Morty looked after him when he was blackout drunk. Plus, he’s blond, sassy, and a bitchin’ dresser. What’s not to like?

Morty (@unlncky) - A Morty who Rick met in Mortytown. The two met only recently, but Rick finds himself wondering about how this Morty’s doing more than he’d like to admit. When he sneaks into Mortytown and manages some drug deals, he typically makes a point of seeking this Morty out to see if he’s still alive. He expects him to die of Space AIDS one day.

Doc (@emergency-rick) - A surgeon Rick who he doesn’t know well yet. Rick plans on having some fun with Doc soon...in a motel. Anyone who makes Rick feel sexy ultimately wins some points, even if he doesn’t remember them the next morning.

Her wings are probably meant to look a bit like a butterfly, for the fairy image. But I think that part is probably just aesthetic.

They loook about the same or hers has smoother transitions to each spike. But yeah, butterfly wings would make sense.
