What Makes A Loud Mouth Brown Girl?

I got loud because I got scared. But lots of people have different reasons for being loud. Loud Mouth Brown Girl(s), are people who don't live by the standards that society sets for them.

They set their own rules, they come from all over the world, and most importantly, they are Mullato, Biracial, Black women, who have been told they can be anything they want, as long as they choose to deny their Blackness.

I've been told repeatedly that my Blackness is either to be fetishized, or doesn't count, by people who didn't know me, or understand how those first few years of discovering my own kind of Blackness, were so important.

I've had Black women tell me that I'm both too much and not enough at the same time. I've had Black women exclude me and while that's fine, I don't fit into all the circles, I am also more cautious about letting Black culture into my life because of the number of times I've been rebuffed for being too Black, or not Black enough.

These days I accept that not everyone will like me, and certainly not everyone will love me, but I'm the Loud Mouth Brown Girl, and no one can take that away from me. I took a horrible experience and turned it into a beautiful, sweet lemonade. I did that, no one else.

That's what makes a loud-mouthed brown girl.
