Bad Times At The El Royale (2018) Review
The Hateful Motel 6. Bad Times At The El Royale (2018) #Review
“Bad Times At The El Royale” sees “Cabin In The Woods” writer/ director Drew Goddard indulging his inner Tarantino as he sets up this lurid, pulpy neo-noir tale of deceit, desperation and death in a faded motel, still trading on its glamorous past and novelty location.
In 1959, a man arrives at the El Royale hotel to bury a bag of money under the floor of one of the rooms only to be shot dead by…

Critics' reviews
"A schizoid thing: terribly, terribly entertaining, and at times just a wee bit soulless." Michael O'Sullivan: The Washington Post
"A worthwhile watch, even if for most, the script’s payoff isn’t enough to justify the pacing problems." Peter Debruge: Variety
"A piece of major studio entertainment so patient, artful, and thrilling that it might as well be a time machine to the mid-'90s." David Ehrlich: IndieWire
"[It] could have been creepier, wittier, sharper in its construction and packed with bombshell revelations that would have made its payoff actually pay off (…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)" Peter Travers: Rolling Stone
"It's great to look at, nearly giddy with pop-culture love, and its particulars are intriguing. But those pieces — by turns weird, soulful and exhilarating — merely accumulate, when they should be generating magic." Sheri Linden: The Hollywood Reporter
"[It] starts with a lot of promise and a full head of steam; even half-way through I was engaged. But the movie eventually careens off the track (…) Rating: ★★½ (out of 4)" James Berardinelli: ReelViews
"For a while, the performances and the visual style keep you easily engaged (...) but at some point (...) you want something more substantial than even Hemsworth’s admittedly mesmerizing snaky hips." Manohla Dargis: The New York Time Characters enter the ominous digs in “Bad Times at the El Royale,” but they don’t always exit. This is hardly news. As the title suggests, El Royale — a motor lodge with pretensions of grandeur, which seems like an apt metaphor for this movie — isn’t a place for a good night’s sleep. It’s a spot for intrigue, desperation, swinging tunes and bloodletting. Mostly, it is a wellspring for a lot of talk, both seemingly idle chatter and carefully obfuscating oratories. Words are never casually exchanged at the Royale here but are instead deployed like weapons in what soon resembles a war of all against all. These many words have flowed from Drew Goddard, a screenwriter whose high-profile credits include “The Martian” and who made his directing debut with the self-knowing horror movie “The Cabin in the Woods.” He also directed “Bad Times” and imbued it with a similar self-consciousness, an attitude that has become almost a default in genre movies. Like many contemporary filmmakers who take on established cinematic forms, Goddard wants to play inside the frame and also to put his individuality on the picture. Optimistically set at the intersection of Agatha Christie and Quentin Tarantino, “Bad Times” is a hard-boiled thriller with flashes of a horror but largely a statement of authorial intent. The movie starts off on an ominous note that soon turns faintly comic after a solitary man (Nick Offerman) enters a motel room that, partly because of the frontal presentation, resembles a stage. A study in midcentury drab, the room is clean, borderline austere, meticulously arranged and one flickering light bulb away from David Lynch-style uneasiness. The man’s fedora and the silhouette of his clothing suggest that it’s the 1950s. He soon doffs his hat and begins moving the room’s furnishings to expose the wooden floor, which he then methodically tears up. One of the few silent characters in the movie, he doesn’t say a word; and then, in a flash, he’s dead.

As a sideman, Lundgren has been involved in dozens of other recordings across a broad range of labels.
In addition, Lundgren has produced albums for the Volenza label, including recordings by the John Venkiah Trio, Fanny Gunnarsson Quartet and Hannah Svensson. He has also produced several of his own records.

Latest story from https://movietvtechgeeks.com/billy-wickman-talks-supernatural-skittles-elvis-katz/
Billy Wickman talks 'Supernatural' Skittles and Elvis Katz
With a Supernatural character name like Elvis Katz, how could you go wrong? From playing a Sam fan (asking what it was like being Lucifer’s vessel) to being possessed by a crossroads demon … lots. Billy Wickman plays Elvis and plays him very well …
He might look familiar as he also appeared on Supernatural 719 investigating a haunted house.
Tell us about your character, Elvis Katz.
When you meet Elvis, he has already accepted his good friend Asa’s death, as it’s a dangerous business in which we’re involved. Elvis became a demon hunter for the excitement, camaraderie, and possible underground fame. He knows the Winchester stories and would love nothing more than to be in one. Now that he is in one, Elvis has left the building.
Where you familiar with Supernatural before you were cast?
Absolutely! My wife watches and my friend Ivan is a super-fan (he’s gonna lose his mind when he reads that). Also, this being season 12, the show has been integral in developing the Vancouver film industry to what it is today.
Do you have any behind-the-scenes stories you can share?
I reminded Jensen of a story he’s told (video below), about walking into an electronics store to find a shocked young woman with a Skittles mosaic portrait of HIM in progress on the floor. He was floored to hear that that weirdo woman is now my lovely wife. We had a good laugh about that spooky, coincidental, almost Supernatural experience;)
ALT: John Badham (our director) is an incredible man. Name anyone in the film industry over the last 50 years; John has a great story about them. He is super knowledgable about Film and always cracking jokes; Dad jokes, but jokes.
What did you enjoy most about filming with the cast?
After this many seasons, my dudes have developed great chemistry with each other and the crew. Everyone is on the same page and in a good mood. They welcome guest actors, making it comfortable for you to explore your character. Jensen has clearly been in a lot of knife fights because we choreographed ours outside the stage in about 20 minutes. Jared and I enjoyed working together on a Christmas movie years ago, and he’s still funny as ever.
Do you have any current projects that you’d like to share?
I have been heating up lately, check episodes of Prison Break, Rogue, and Timeless soon. Also, watch for me next year in Loudermilk and War for the Planet of the Apes.

War For The Planet Of The Apes (2017) Review
War! What is it good for? Concluding the #PlanetOfTheApes trilogy, that's what. #Review
As a rule, I’m not a fan of prequels. But rules were made to be broken, and “War For The Planet Of The Apes” manages to thwart two of mine: it’s a superb prequel and it’s the third chapter of a trilogy which is the best of the three. In the aftermath of Koba’s betrayal and attack on the humans, Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his tribe of apes are hiding in the Californian forests, forced into a…
