I like billf0rd in the way the parallel between stancest, how they are foils of each other and both so important to Ford’s character and his growth. It’s a fascinating dynamic to explore. And I love me some toxic Yaoi.

But something about seeing so many fanarts and fanfictions and AUs ignore the canon torture that Bill put Ford through, the psychological damage that Ford still does in canon suffer from, kind of rubs me in the wrong way. Like it’s fun to do “what-if’s” and explore different dynamics, it’s great that people are doing and creating so many wonderful pieces of art and literature around it, it is! But Billf0rd at its core is not a cute and blushy relationship, and it was not mutually abusive. Ford being a victim of Bill’s violent abuse and torture is the core of the relationship, it was never healthy and fun and cute.

Idk, I like seeing the fanart and AUs, but I think there needs to be some acknowledgment that the pairing itself is steeped in pain and abuse, that is the one definable thing about the relationship and for Bill and Ford’s character, and taking that away is losing the essence of the characters and the ship. Again, I enjoy the ship, I truly do! No antis here. Just, you know.

do you think billf0rd is meant to be canon in any way? i wont have a chance to read the books for a while. tbf im not the best at reading tone or between the lines anyway, or updated on lore things either, but i love the show (but not billf0rd).

one of my pals thinks people are reading with shipping glasses on, but a summary of b.o.b. i read seems like it does imply feelings, but i cant tell if thats intentional or is other characters being amatonormative about unhealthy relationships and behaviors.

I personally think it's up to the eye of the beholder.

I think it's played up in the book for a joke by the writers, to some degree. Because it IS kinda funny to imply that lol, but also I don't really take it seriously. There's also a moment where Bill says that Ford isn't really attracted to much, and is more focused on planning and being logical.

But also I also am not really a fan of BillFord, not really at all. My personal headcanon is Ford is aroace and obsessed with Bill as an anomaly, a god, and someone who treats him as a genius. Bill's species, to me, is asexual (the biological definition) and reproduce via their magic or some other way. Bill does not think like a human, and thus doesn't have human rules of attraction.

To me, it's not romantic, or sexual, or like the normal ways we think of platonic. It's a secret fourth thing that's extremely toxic and messed up and leaves both characters worse off (for a while). And that isn't NOT supported by the book. The book can be read how YOU want it. It's written in a certain way to be funny, and it IS funny. The 'hee hee toxic exes' is written in a way that made me laugh a ton.

It was a terrible, fucked up relationship, which is shown in the show, elaborated on in the book, and HAMMERED home HARD in the thisisnotawebsite site. And the fun part is, YOU get to decide how to read and determine it.

I choose to see it as 'trickster god and devotee, where one thinks he is the god's equal and one thinks he is independent of any connections but is really not and HATES it' to sort of sum it up. You can also choose :)

Sorry if you've already received like 9k asks about your bill x toyota post, but my god do I agree. I actually like the ship and was initially elated at the rise of "toxic yuri/yaoi" dynamics because I thought that meant that acceptance of weirdnasty ships was on the rise, only to see it get co-opted by folks who will still snipe at people one rung freakier than they are. And I don't just mean incest dynamics or whatever, but also literally if the yuri is too toxic, a la if it's anything harsher than slight enemies who sometimes call each other stupid. I feel like some guy at the devil's sacrament watching people tell each other not to worship the devil THAT hard because it's sinful. As a fanatic billf0rd shipper I am so confused on the Stancest hate. like its ok you dont like incest, fair enough, but have you considered putting down the stones I like my glass house to stay intact actually.

it really sucks bc billf0rd is good conceptually but there are so many Annoying Newgens that do not Get It and it sucksss cuz it's like okay is this person based or the most annoying person on the planet. truly one of the worst consequences of ur ship being made canon is having to deal with all the annoying new people
