Page 2: Melanie Griffith was caught in lockdown meltdown mode outside her Los Angeles home yelling at an unsuspecting laborer and giving him a good working over after he somehow crossed her bath and pushed her buttons but it doesn’t take much to get Mel to blow these days because she’s upset about two things which are getting old and not having a man in her life
Page 3: Lisa Marie Presley’s son Ben Keough’s tragic last moments were caught on tape as he argued with his girlfriend according to the coroner’s report on his suicide and security camera footage also captured the eerie sound of an apparent gunshot said the officer who viewed the tape -- Ben had hosted a party for his girlfriend Diana Pinto then about 4 a.m. the 27-year-old musician went to his bedroom; two hours later Diana went to check on him and had to jimmy the bedroom door lock with a bobby pin and she discovered his body and called 911 but Ben was pronounced dead at the scene -- since his death a devastated Lisa Marie has blamed herself for not intervening sooner; Ben had been to rehab several months before and Lisa Marie could see he was struggling with drugs and depression and she has kept a close eye on Ben’s gravesite with Graceland’s surveillance system
Page 4: Anne Heche’s shocking public pronouncement that she wants to reunite with former galpal Ellen DeGeneres was met with fury from Ellen wife Portia de Rossi -- Ellen and Anne were Hollywood’s highest-profile lesbian couple when they dated for three years before their bitter split in 2000 and they haven’t spoken since but Anne announced after her elimination on Dancing with the Stars that she would love to appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show but Portia has made it clear she wants Anne nowhere near her wife and she believes Anne is using Ellen to drum up publicity for herself, lonely Ryan Seacrest is longing for a reunion with former flame Shayna Taylor but she wants no part of him -- workaholic Ryan announced the combustible couple’s third split in June after eight on-and-off years together -- Ryan’s obsession with being the next Dick Clark tests the patience of everybody around him and it’s made him a nightmare to be in a relationship with as Shayna found out firsthand -- Ryan seemed so cocky and sure that breaking up was the right thing to do but not having Shayna there to lean on has really gotten to him however Shayna is refusing to be played for a fool
Page 5: Kelly Clarkson made a massive mistake dumping husband Brandon Blackstock according to famed numerologist Glynis McCants
Page 6: Doting dad Kanye West is spoiling oldest daughter North rotten and it’s causing even more problems between him and wife Kim Kardashian because Kim feels North is getting too spoiled but Kanye won’t hear any of it because North is his firstborn and his princess and he treats her like it -- North is regularly served breakfast in bed on a silver tray and gets whatever she wants even if it’s waffles with strawberries and ice cream and she also has a team of beauticians and a stylist to cater to her every need as though she was a full-grown woman and her wardrobe is extensive and expensive and she never wears the same designer outfit twice plus North also loves to shop online for jewelry and Kanye gives her his credit card and she can spend $100,000 in a single sitting and Kanye just thinks it’s cute
Page 7: Daring Jill Duggar and husband Derick Dillard are rebelling against her conservative parents and causing a full-scale family war as the couple has publicly defied Baptist patriarch Jim Bob Duggar several times since their 2014 marriage and now they’ve been banned from the 19 Kids and Counting reality clan; Jim Bob’s even demanded that their neighbors have nothing to do with them -- Jill and Derick drew Jim Bob’s fury after criticizing her parents’ conservative views and shutting down their own family factory after having two sons and said they’re stopping there for now unlike Jill’s folks who had 19 kids, dog lover Jennifer Aniston adores her new rescue puppy but potty-training the pooch has been the pits so desperate Jen had to sign up her new pup Lord Chesterfield for private lessons with a dog trainer -- she has two other dogs Clyde and Sophie but they’re well-behaved and know to do their business outdoors and Jen loves them all but she forgot how much work it is to train a puppy
Page 8: Prince Harry’s wife Meghan Markle revealed her private battle with depression as her struggles with first-time motherhood and fitting in with the rigid royal family pushed her over the edge but Queen Elizabeth thinks her conniving confession is simply a ploy to sully the monarchy -- Meghan described the emotional pain caused by criticism as a death by a thousand cuts and said if people are saying things about you that aren’t true what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging -- Queen Elizabeth believes Meghan’s confession is a calculated attack on the monarchy and Meghan is acting like the royals waged a war against her but Meghan and Harry’s actions since they quit have infuriated Her Majesty because Meghan keeps orchestrating situations where she takes center stage appearing to support and put the spotlight on those in need but she turns them all into opportunities to talk about herself and how hard her struggle is
Page 9: Rattled Tyra Banks’ rocky start on Dancing with the Stars has her looking for a way to waltz off the show and she is already trying to back out of hosting because she hates the criticism she’s been getting from virtually everyone plus she’s unpopular with the contestants and is bickering behind the scenes with producers who now regret replacing longtime hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews -- ratings have also plummeted since Tyra took the helm with the show losing more than a million viewers in early October from the same week in 2019

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just before spring break, Wanda had approached you after work and sat you down.
“Hey, I want to apologize for what I did. About this whole job and internship nonsense. I was a real bitch, and I shouldn’t have been.”
All you did was slowly nod as you listened.
“Look, I only did it because I really needed it and I figured you’d find another internship easy, but this was looking like my only option.”
You didn’t say anything and she started to get desperate.
“You’re some tough competition, alright? I only did it because I’m threatened by you, doesn’t that make you happy in some way?”
You shook your head. “Wanda, I didn’t want some stupid internship to come between us. So no, I’m not happy you felt like you had to dick me over to get an internship. If you’d just come to me and said you wanted it, I would’ve backed off.”
She bobbed her head, biting her lip as she played with her fingers. “So, still mad?”
“I was never mad. I was hurt. That our friendship meant less than an internship.”
“Well, to be fair, I only said that you were busy, not that you weren’t qualified, if that helps,” she offered, a smile slowly growing on her face.
You couldn’t resist smiling back at her.
“I suppose that’s true, and I do work there now, so… I forgive you.”
“Oh, thank you so much. I’m so sorry,” she cried as she hugged you tight. “It’ll never happen again.”
“As long as we’re friends again,” you said, happy to hug her back.
“Absolutely.”
------------------------------
Following that spring semester, you and Stephen spent all of your time together. If you weren’t at his house, he was at yours, or you were out doing something together. His whole family went on a vacation to the Bahamas and took you with them, then when you all got back from that, your family went to Hawaii, and he came along.
The sex, after your first time together in the lab, only grew better, somehow. You weren’t entirely sure how it could get hotter or better but it did. There was a deep connection every time, and there was always something new, something fresh, something exciting. He wasn’t a selfish lover by any means, and you had no problem repaying that feeling. In some ways, if you weren’t being affectionate, it was hard to keep your hands off each other. Whenever he was overtly kind to your loved ones, whenever he impressed you with science, whenever he did something completely responsible, you were rearing to go. Because like your friends had said long ago -- you have a type -- the successful type. That’s what Stephen was. Mature, well-adjusted, goal oriented, intelligent, funny, and sweet. He filled all the roles you wanted in a partner and more, and how could that not turn you on?
Since senior year was approaching, so were MCATs and med-school applications, so you two discussed your options. Stephen had his sights set on Columbia, whereas you were gunning for Johns Hopkins. Of course, you both applied to every medical college east of the Mississippi.
At first, you agreed that you should go where your careers would take you, that you shouldn’t sacrifice for the other. It felt right to both of you that if you were going to dedicate yourself to this line of work, it needed to be at the place that fit you best, not a place to compromise on.
But when the acceptance letters started coming in, decisions had to be made.
Stephen brought over all of his letters to your house and you were in the dining room, trying to discuss where to go.
“Well if I went to IU, and you went to Columbia--”
“Y/N,” he started, staring at you. You were pacing, talking to yourself, while he sat at the dining room table.
“But then I think it’d be closer if I went to--”
“Y/N,” he said again.
“But then we need to consider.”
“Y/N, I got accepted to Johns Hopkins and I’m going,” he finally said, hoping you heard him.
Still rambling and rattling, his words finally registered with you and you stopped, turning only your head to him. “I’m sorry, what?”
“I got accepted to your school and I’m going to go with you.”
“What? No, no that’s not what we agreed on. We agreed we shouldn’t sacrifice our careers for each other, we’d never do that.”
He stood from the table and put his hands on your biceps. “I’m not. We sacrificed time with each other so I could study abroad. You did that for me, so I could have opportunities like this. I’m repaying you. Johns Hopkins is where you want to go, and I want to be with you. I can’t stand the idea of us living states apart for four years, and that’s not including residency.”
“But what about Columbia? What about neurosurgery?”
“Is all at Johns Hopkins. I can do that anywhere. What matters to me is that you’re happy. It’s not like Hopkins is exactly a downgrade.”
You half smiled. “Are you sure? I don’t want you to wait and look down the road ten years and resent me for this.”
“I’m making this choice, not you. I’m not going to resent you. I’m still getting my degree, it’s no big deal.”
You nodded. “Okay, only if you’re sure.”
“I’m sure about us, about you, the rest is just details.”
He kissed your forehead, then rested his against yours.
“So we’re really doing this? Med school? Together? For four years?”
“Hopefully it’s longer than that.”
------------------------
Four years later….
You had just graduated medical school, about to go into your residency. The graduation ceremony had just ended and your parents and sister found you, along with Stephen’s parents and his brother.
“Oh, get together you two for a picture!” your mom gushed, trying to not cry any more. You two held up your diplomas, smiling proudly with your caps and gowns on.
It was a long, grueling road, but you made it. Both of you made it out with MD-PhDs, somehow, by some crazy miracle. He was guaranteed a fantastic residency, as were you.
“Oh, we’re so proud of you,” Beverly said, coming over and hugging you two at the same time.
“Thank you,” you gushed.
“Oh, wait, shit,” Stephen suddenly said, checking his pockets. “I think I dropped my class ring. It was in my pockets. Hang on,” he said and you started to look around on the ground. He got down on his hands and knees and started to look around, patting the ground.
You turned around to talk to your family for a second, giving him time to look. Then suddenly, he said, “Ah, here it is.”
“Oh, did you find it--” you started to ask, whirling back to face him, only to be stunned when he was on one knee, a ring box opened.
You gasped, throwing your hand over your mouth, you nearly dropped your diploma. Your eyes flashed to the Strange’s who were merely grinning, they must’ve known this was coming, but your family seemed just as shocked as you.
“Y/N, I could list all the ways I love you. From your amazing laugh, to your intelligence that at times, can put mine to shame, putting my ego back in its place. But know that it’s your kind heart, your driven mind, your stunning humor, and overwhelming love that made this decision easy for me. So, Y/N, you started out as my lab partner, how do you feel about being my life partner? What do you say? Will you marry me?” he asked with a giant grin.
“Yes!” you all but screamed, and he laughed, standing so you could hug him quickly before giving him a huge kiss. He slid the ring on your finger and you kissed him again. Then hugs and kisses from both sides of the families went all around. Congratulations were in order and everyone went out for dinner to celebrate a day of fond endings and bright beginnings.
--------------------------
Three years later....
You and Stephen weren’t thrilled at the idea of waiting to actually get married, but you agreed you wanted to have your careers before having a marriage. You waited until you completed your residency and gained licensure and then you’d get married.
Which is where you were today.
The ceremony had already happened, with Stephen in a sharp tux, Victor as his best man, Clint as your Man of Honor. You found a stunning wedding dress that was adorned in every clear crystal on earth.
You wore your mom’s veil, and borrowed Beverly’s bracelet. You got married under an oak tree older than even your grandparents. A garden as your backdrop, with a beautiful crystal ballroom and garden area for the reception.
You had a smaller-ish wedding with only about 65 in attendance, but this felt better to you. Of course, most of your families were there, along with several people from med-school, as well as colleagues at the residencies.
The vows were all said, the vendors were all paid, the dancing was all done.
The sun was just now setting, letting the air cool slightly, but not enough to give a chill at all. Stephen and you were sitting on a little bench that swung, a nice cushion on it, your hand laced with his, your wedding bands shiny and new.
All around you, filling out a little concrete slab under another oak tree, and the end of a small path through the back garden, were your friends.
Tony and Pepper were sitting together, an engagement ring on Pepper’s finger. Clint and Nat together, wedding bands on their hands, and Nat’s baby bump starting to show. T’Challa and his younger sister Shuri were there. Steve and Sharon, a girl he met at his new job. Bucky, Scott, and Sam were all there. Wanda and Pietro were there. Wanda had brought a date, a guy named Paul who had blonde hair who was inside currently. And of course, Peter was there.
Stephen and you had found a moment alone, and stole it, but then Tony found you, and soon after that, everyone else did.
Fourteen people, all but two you’d shared most of your life with. Up until medical school, these people were your family, by every sense of the word. Sure there were bumps, bruises, fights, but after everyone had grown up, you all stayed in contact.
Tony already amassed an empire, leading in engineering. Bruce was working independently on biomolecular research, but every once in a while, he teamed up with Tony to pioneer some project. Bucky and Peter were on his design team, with Scott heading up the mechanics and running a few independent projects. Pepper was Tony’s right hand and they did a wonderful job together. Clint and Nat opened up a training ground for agents for the government -- if they were CIA, FBI, or otherwise, they went to their camp. Steve was head of operations for a finance firm but got in some art in his free time, even selling some of his work. Wanda worked as a psychologist out of Manhattan. Pietro went on to be an Olympic athlete, winning four gold medals for four different categories of running. Sam got work with the Air Force, helping to design and implement their aircrafts. T’Challa went on to be elected as mayor for his hometown. He was the youngest in history, but his ratings were also the highest.
And now, they were all here, to support you two.
For the past hour, you’d been explaining how you and Stephen met, what all had gone down that year, and how everything had transpired to bring you two here.
“Wait, so that’s how you two met?” Sharon suddenly asked.
“Yeah. Kind of dorky, isn’t it?”
“I think it’s cute,” she noted.
“Wait, Tony, you knew Y/N and Stephen were having sex in the lab?” Bruce suddenly demanded, making nearly everyone laugh. “And you just sat there with music playing?!” he questioned, clearly horrified.
Tony grinned. “Hey, what do you want me to say? I wanted to see how far these two love birds would take it with me in the room.”
You two just shrugged, smiling.
“How often did this happen?!” he questioned.
“Well to be fair,” Stephen suddenly said, his cheeks a little pink as you peered up at him lovingly, “that was our first time together.” You scooted a little farther into his open arm, happily remembering the first moments together.
“And you decided to desecrate my lab in doing so,” Tony scoffed.
“Oh, don’t even pretend like you never did that in your lab, Stark,” Sam shot, a shit eating grin on his face.
“That’s besides the point. It’s my lab.”
“Actually, it was the school’s lab, and it was just once,” you assured, laughing.
“Ugh, now I’m going to have nightmares,” Bruce said, shuddering, sitting back in his lawn chair.
“I still can’t believe Loki did that shit to you,” Steve noted, looking down at his beer bottle.
You shrugged. “Hey, the way I see it now, I was a challenge.”
“Still shitty,” Scott noted. “You deserved better.”
“Hey, Debbie Downers, look around, she got ‘better’,” Nat defended and you smiled at her. She winked back at you.
“And clearly you two did too,” you noted. Clint and Nat did get married right after senior year but this was their first baby, and all of you were so thrilled for them.
“Yeah, little guy here is going to make things interesting, right, Daddy?” Nat asked, signing the question to him.
Clint nodded and signed back, “Absolutely, I’m so excited.”
“Shit, I forgot I dated that chick, Molly,” Sam suddenly said, his mind drifting back a few years.
“Yeah? How’d that turn out?” Steve wondered.
“Clearly not well. She ain't here,” he said with a serious face. “Nah, I think she was a little too spacey. Nice girl though.”
“Aren’t they all?” Bucky asked with a teasing tone before Sam slightly shoved him.
“What a wild ride,” Sam noted, thinking. “It seems like forever ago that we were in sociology together,” he noted.
“I know,” you agreed.
“I can’t believe I was such a bitch to you,” Wanda commented. “I don’t what was wrong with me,” she said with a sour face.
“Small town, lots of competition,” Bucky reminded. “Besides, clearly it worked out anyway, if Y/N got to be your boss.”
“Oh yeah, those first few months were just fantastic. Don’t let Y/N fool you, she totally threw her weight around for the grief I gave her,” Wanda informed to the group, pointing at you.
You nodded humbly. “Hey, can you blame me?”
A resounding “No,” hit your ears and everyone laughed.
“God, you guys,” Pepper suddenly said, “where has the time gone? It’s like just yesterday we were all juniors, just 21--”
“Or 19,” you corrected with a mischievous grin.
“Or 19, and now we’re approaching our 30’s. We’ve got careers. We’re getting married…” she stated, looking around and everyone slowly nodded.
“We graduated together almost a decade ago,” T’Challa remarked, his eyes going wide. “So much has happened. So much time has passed.”
“Where are we going to be in another ten years?” Steve asked as his eyes settled on everyone in the circle, but obviously no one had an answer.
Finally, you spoke up, “Exactly where we want to be.”
“Let’s hope so,” Bucky said.
“Let’s make a pact,” Tony suddenly said, standing up, raising his champagne flute. Everyone else stood as well. “We meet in ten years. No matter where we are, what we’re doing. Life gets busy, and I’m sure we can’t always meet every year, we can agree that on Y/N and Strange’s tenth anniversary, we can get together, just like this.” He paused a second, looking around. “While some of you are brand new to the group, and others have a few more miles than the others, and some of us have been around since the beginning, I think it’s important we keep this group together. Yeah?”
Everyone agreed and raised their glasses.
The rest of the evening, you spent reminiscing, talking about your time back in college, your time growing up in that town, and everyone’s lives since they left. It was the happiest you’d been since Stephen proposed. Your family was back together again.
------------------------------------------
The old gang did get back together ten years later at your anniversary party at your mansion.
Not much had changed for anyone. Tony and Pepper still ruled a technological empire, whom you often worked with to get top of the line medical gear and equipment. Bucky, Scott, and Peter all still working for Stark Industries. T’Challa had moved on to Governor and was talking about running for President, which you fully supported. Clint and Nat left their training program in capable hands and actually joined a private sector for work. Steve and Sharon had married and had children, in fact, so did Tony and Pepper. Peter met a girl named MJ at the company, and they were engaged now. Wanda and her boyfriend, Paul, from the party got married about four years back, and their first baby was on the way. Pietro had retired from Olympics but now he taught and trained other athletes and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Stephen had turned into the nation’s highest paid and sought after neurosurgeon. He was on the front of every discovery, every progressive and innovative surgery, every life saving method.
You were the nation’s highest paid and sought after psychiatrist. You were the pioneer for a deeper look into the human mind and psyche.
Both of you were invited to speak at symposiums, lecture halls, Ted talks, and conferences. You’d both been approached at different points to write books and while Stephen declined, you accepted the offer.
You had three kids, and they were just as bright as you and their father, maybe even more so. Curiosity burned in their veins and solutions lied on their tongues. Two boys, and one girl -- Donna.
After your careers got up and going, you offered to move your families out near you so that you could keep going with your work but not be far from family. Stephen’s parents said they’d move closer but refused financial help. Your parents accepted a small gift to help on a down payment but that was all they’d take.
Claire and Victor actually worked in the area as well, so they lived nearby, so you had everything you’d ever wanted.
Life couldn’t get any better. Every day with Stephen was full of love, adventure, family, and work. Your careers were never a competition, and no matter where the roads took you, you supported each other without ultimatums, expectations, or conditions. Each day was a blessing and more. You’d each given the other a life you’d always dreamed of, and that’s all you could ask for in a life partner.
Now, you stood in your living room with everyone, the kids in the parlor being entertained with the grandparents.
“Well, we made it another ten years,” Tony remarked. “Any regrets, anyone?”
Everyone shook their head as they looked around the room.
“So, everyone’s good? All the kids, all the gray hairs, all the stress?” he pressed.
“Yeah, man, no complaints from me,” Sam remarked.
“Same here,” Scott agreed.
“Wouldn’t trade it for the world,” Peter concurred.
“I’m living the life,” Wanda said happily as she put her head on her husband’s shoulder.
“So that’s it, huh? We all made it?” Tony asked. “Impressive. I was sure that it was touch and go there for a while with Scott and his run ins with the law. And let’s not forget Nat and Clint going total CIA.”
Everyone chuckled.
“No, I think everyone is exactly where they want to be,” you noted, holding Stephen’s hand and looking up at him lovingly. “I know I am.”
He smiled down at you before kissing you quickly.
“Me too,” he agreed.
“Oh, get a room, lovebirds,” Tony joked.
“You mean like your lab?” Stephen shot back before Tony shook his head.
“That’s never going to leave my mind…”
Just then, your mom said it was time to cut the anniversary cake. Everyone nodded and began to leave the living room before Stephen tugged your hand.
“Hey, hold on one second. I want to give you your gift now, in private,” he said.
“Oh?” you said, intrigued.
He nodded and walked over to a box that you hadn’t noticed before. It wasn’t wrapped at all, it was natural, dark wood.
“What is it?”
“Open it up and see, genius,” he quipped with an eye roll. “Honestly, two doctorates and I still have to instruct you on how to open a gift.”
“I’m about to open a can of whoopass on you so hard that not even you will be able to stitch it back up, doctor,” you shot, working on unclasping the box.
As soon as the lid was up, you recognized the contents, well, they were familiar at least. You reached in and pulled out a bundle of letters.
“Letters? Are these the letters from your time abroad?” you asked, leafing through them.
“Actually… these are new. A letter for every year. One on our wedding anniversary, one the day I proposed, one on the day we graduated SLU together, one on the day I got back from abroad, and every other year was one letter on your birthday.”
“You didn’t,” you said, happy tears immediately rolling down your cheek.
“I did,” he said with a cocky grin, reaching up to thumb away the tears. “And I’ll keep doing it.”
“I love you more than anything in the world,” you said in a hushed tone as you stared at him with admiration.
“I love you more than myself, and that’s saying something,” he said with a chuckle. You laughed too before leaning in to wrap your arms around him.
“Where’s my gift?” he asked.
“Oh, it’s right here.” You went to the coffee table and pulled out a loosely wrapped bundle. “Careful, it’s not in a box.”
“I gathered that much,” he shot back.
“Wasn’t sure you could deduce that, Sherlock,” you said, rolling your eyes.
He just smiled as he tore open the bag. “What is this?” he asked, pulling it out.
“Well, you once asked me if I wore a cape, being a superhero. I only thought it was right, then to give you this. You save lives every day, you deserve a cape. But most importantly, all those years ago, in my dorm, you saved mine.”
“This is cheesy,” he remarked before leaning down to kiss you. “But perfect. I love it, and I love you. Happy Anniversary, sweetheart.”
“Happy anniversary, darling,” you cooed back.
The two of you leaned forward, your lips brushing together for a kiss to signify ages of love past, and to come.
Beverly Marsh || Clown Makeup
Okay so I posted this on on my Wattpad account which is Radsavagee. So this is a halloween one.
I would like to mention that I don't know Richie's sexuality so I just said bisexual. I haven't read the book so if anyone would like to tell me so I can put it in future imagines.
This is an au? That's what it's called right? So basically the whole pennywise thing never happened and it's in the 2000's. So I hope you enjoy this.
Also tell me if I have any grammar errors as I do not look at my writing to check them oof.
-
I heard a knock on the door and I knew who it was. I was going to do both of our makeup. And I guess out of the two of us I was kind of more girly. We were both a bit of tomboy and girly but I was more on the girly side while she was more on the tomboy side.
I raced down the stairs and I nearly slammed into a wall on the way. I was nervous, butterflies were in my stomach. But I pushed those away because I didn't know her sexuality and I was just assuming she was into guys since she dated Bill. And I hear her state she was straight so I knew I had little to zero chance to date her.
Plus she's my best friend along with Richie. I was more closer to Richie though since I was friends with him since we were little kids and I had known Beverly since high school when Bill started crushing on Beverly. And she was then in the group and quickly her and I become best friends.
Bill and Beverly dated for about a year and a bit and broke up at the start of this year. They had both move on or at least Bill and he recently got a girlfriend. Beverly no longer was sad about the break up and had gotten over it so at a point they had both move on. We had also meet Bill's girlfriend a few times and we all like her including Beverly. The two got on pretty well and it was really good!
Only Richie had fully known of my crush on Beverly and I knew his crush on Eddie. I was the only person to know about his crush because he was worried about people finding out he was bisexual. And I was also the same. No one else And we would honestly just talk on the phone about it quite a lot. It was honestly good I could just talk with him about anything but it would sometimes just hurt knowing that I had no chance with her.
I opened the door and was greeted with a tight hug from Beverly. She was like that with me and I hugged her back and I could smell her perfume. And it wasn't like I was smelling her or ever have that was honestly just a creepy move. But I guess she maybe had put too much perfume on and it was intense you could say.
"It's nice to see you again! I missed you!" Beverly whispered to me as I felt my heart melt and crush itself at the same time. It kind of hurt but in a good way. I laughed a bit.
"It's only been a few days," I commented laughing lightly.
"That's still a lot of time since I last saw my best friend," Beverly commented as I kept my smile.
Now I got best friend zoned. There is no hope for me now. God why do I think I ever have a chance with her. Like if you get friend zoned you are fucked. There is no hope for you.
"Well let's get ready," I said and started to go up my stairs and Beverly followed me in excitement. I walked into my room and started to get everything ready.
"Can't wait for the boys to be over and we can all go trick or treating! It's going to be great!" Beverly exclaimed sitting on my bed as I nodded my head agreeing. It's going to be so much fun no doubt.
I started to getting her face ready. Because I didn't want her face to break out much because no one likes it when you break out more than usual or at all.
"Yeah it's going to be one of the best years of trick or treating no doubt," I commented as I started to put on the makeup. It might be a while and I hope my hand doesn't freeze up.
After an hour of doing Beverly's makeup and my own. I was done and I looked at myself in the mirror.
"Finished," I said to myself as I had just finished my own makeup after I had done Beverly. I started to put all my brushes away and getting them clean and everything.
I hated sharing brushes so I made sure when I was done with Beverly to wash them and clean them and then do my own. I heard Beverly outside the bathroom door that was connected to my bedroom.
So I decided to ask something that had been on my mind for a while.
"Are you fine with Bill's girlfriend Anna being there?" I asked Beverly.
"Yeah I am plus I already like someone else," She said mumbled due to her being in another room and probably on my bed waiting for me to finish everything. After all it was nearly time for when the boys were coming.
But then my mind started to comprehend what Beverly had said. She likes someone else who isn't me.
Ouch. That hurt. I like her.
"Oh." I said and I realised my mistake so I quickly followed it up,"That's good."
"Anyways you can come in now," I said and with that it didn't take long for Beverly to come in rushing. She swung the door opened and she finally looked at herself in the mirror along with myself.
"We looks amazing!" She declared in happiness.
"Yeah we do and you look the best," She added as I blushed lightly. I was happy that my makeup slightly covered my blush. I just hoped she wasn't paying attention.
"You are the best Bev," I whispered smiling.
And I know I said it loud enough for her to hear me.
"So are you," She said pulling me into a hug and I hugged her back.
We sat down on the bed waiting for the fives minutes to past so the boys would be at my door. But I couldn't help but think my chances with her are down the water. And I guessed she noticed my happy mood be replaced.
"Something wrong?" Beverly asked noticing my mood go down. I was just staring at the ground. I needed to tell her about my crush on her. And I was going to do that. If she hated me it would kill because I would lose my best friend and that would hurt even more.
"Look I gotta tell you something and if you want to leave you can," I said and I was hoping she wouldn't leave I was hoping.
"You're scaring me Y/n. And nothing can get me to leave," Beverly said and I hope she was keeping her word.
You can do this. Beverly would just call you a freak or anything. Just like Richie told me that she wouldn't do that. That wasn't a Beverly thing to do. I trusted Richie so I decided to just say it outright.
"I like you," I said quickly and closing my eyes worried of her reaction.
Please no calling names. Please no calling n-
"YES!" I heard her shout and I opened my eyes confused.
Did I hear her right? Did she just say yes? No that's gotta be wrong like thats- thats just not right.
"Huh?" I questioned as I looked at her confused.
"I like you too," Beverly declared happily and smiling the widest I have ever seen her.
"You sure? You ain't faking it," I said still confused.
"Yes I'm sure I like you, you dork," Beverly said pulling me into another hug as the door bell went and I knew it was the boys.
"Lets get our stuff," I commented walking near the door where both of our small bags were. I put mine on my back and grabbed hers about to give it to her.
"And before we go. Do you want to be my girlfriend," Beverly said as I nodded my head.
"Yes," I said smiling.
We walked down the stairs and opened the doors to see the group. I saw Bill as a cheesy vampire and Anna also being a vampire. And they were wearing matching costumes thats adorable. I saw Richie dressing up as the Joker since he loves the Joker. Eddie was the Iron Man and I figured since Tony Stark was his favourite superhero. Stanley was dressing up in his bird watching gear and that wasn't going to expect anything different from him. I knew Mike was dressing up as a Werewolf and I thought of Teen Wolf. And Ben was dressing up as an Explorer and it reminded me as like Carl from Up.
"You l-look good guys," Bill said smiling and wrapped his left arm around Anna.
His stuttering was getting better. And I was happy for him. He seemed to be much more confident now and it's sad that a guy like him was insecure about his stutter and the fact that people were teasing him about it.
He's such a great guy and I know his girlfriend will treat him right and he will treat her right.
"Damn Y/n and Beverly. You two look amazing," Anna said as I smiled at her. She wrapped me into a hug and then Beverly as well and pulled her towards the back of the group to say hi to everyone. I will do that also after I talk to Richie.
"Damn! Look at you guy's make up!" Richie praised us. I laughed slightly. I hugged him and he hugged me back just as tightly. When we let go I turned and locked the front of my door. They didn't noticed as they all began talking to one another.
I thought of Richie's fear of clowns and how we were looking like clowns.
"Are you sure you're fine because last time I checked you were afraid of clowns," I teased him playfully bumping my shoulder against his.
"Well last time I checked you guys were already clowns for not telling each other your feelings towards each other. And now look at you two," Richie sassed out as I had my mouth open in shock. And I could feel myself
I blushed deeply.
"Ohhhh something happened. Tell me everything," He said leaning in to hear all of it.
"I confessed my feelings for her," I stated.
"And?" He said trying to get the information out of me fast enough even though he knew I was going to give it to him.
"She told me she likes me back. And now we are dating," I said excitedly and I saw Richie smiling at me with happiness.
"So you finally got the courage to confess," Richie teased and I rolled my eyes.
"Yes I did and thanks for being there for me Richie," I said gently and I was actually thankful for a best friend like him.
"No problem that's what best friends are for," Richie said as he wrapped his arm around me pulling me into a side hug.
"Now all you gotta do is confess your feelings for you know who," I teased him and he smiled lightly at me while rolling his eyes and shaking his head.
"We gotta get going guys," Bill said as everyone started to get going and I was in the back.
Beverly came to me and held my hand pulling me away from Richie and went in front of the group.
"Hurry up babe I want food," Beverly complained as I blushed and rolled my eyes.
God I couldn't wait for the memories of tonight. Tonight has got to be the best Halloween night of all time.
Dear Dad,
greetings from somewhere east of El Paso. I have gone from one end of the state to the other and you have been on my mind a lot lately especially since I went home and attended homecoming meeting some of the people you went to school with and graduated with, in 1949. But you were on my mind even before that because where I am teaching there is a lady that looks exactly like Miss Hathaway from the Beverly Hillbillies and I think of the times we watched that together, back in the day when our tv had a tuning knob and only got in two stations.
I think about you a lot and I miss you all the time even though it's been so so long that you've been gone. In my life, I have come to realize that friends are overrated and this is one of the things you used to tell me all the time. It is one of many things you were right about, along with drinking, drugs and chasing boys, though I have to stay ou were wrong about all that racist bullshit you used to expouse. Anyway, just like love, with friendship, the media tells us and sells us this great lie and we all buy into it . But for me, past a certain age, it was never like that. There are still people I labeled as my friends but for the most part, I am alone with my thoughts out here and that's the way I like it ----which is the way you taught me to be and I think that you would be proud.
Believe it or not, I am still friends with Joey Douglass and Rose although I hear from Joey very seldom. Rose and Joey both married rich men so their reality is much different than mine. .At 45 Rose decided she wanted to be in a punk rock band which is really funny because when I was 15 and *I* wanted to be in punk rock band she pretty much laughed at me. But like I said, she is rich and has lots of time on her hands so she bought a guitar and found people to teach her to play and now that's what she does and part of me is jealous even though I could not imagine getting up and playing in front of people. I am so riddled with anxiety I can barely speak to people. I know you used to think I’d never shut up but after 20 years of living with someone who talked over me and interrupted me every time I opened my mouth I eventually learned nothing I had to say mattered a great deal and I stopped talking altogether. Susan is still around though and she has not changed at all. She drove me to Terri’s funeral when she knew I was too distraught to drive myself but played it off and made jokes about my bad driving all the way there. She brought me soup when I was sick and even now that I am back in another far-flung town, she still checks in with me. And we talk aout you all the time.
Probably, it would also make you happy to know that I have only had sex with one man in my entire life and I find sex, in general, to be awful and overrated. Although I would very much like to try it with a girl, that probably will never happen either. I stayed a virgin longer than most, mainly because I was afraid. even in death, of disappointing you. I'm glad I waited for true love but in the end, it didn't really matter.
Homecoming I also got to hang out with your family. And I can hear you telling me, clear as day “He may be my brother but he's no kin to me”, talking about your brother Tony.
I never understood how much you hated them and I never understood why until the last few years when I actually had to hang out with them myself. They are horrible people who call themselves Christian but have little understanding of the word, and think they are better than everyone else. They are racist, sexist, narrow-minded and hate everyone who is not rich, Christian, and male. And you were no saint and you are most definitely a racist, but they just passed you on everything it's like being related to Nazis. Anyway I just felt really bad because as a kid I thought they were so glamorous and cool because they were rich and I never understood why you hated them so much but oh my god now I do and I really wish you were here so I could tell you I was sorry that I didn't understand back then.
I miss you a lot. You were not a perfect man but you were all I had in this world and now with Terri gone, I am completely ......completely alone.
I am getting baptized next week, all alone without, any family or friends to see it, in a very small church where I don't know a single soul. But you know when the Lord calls it is best not to keep Him waiting.
Goodbye, dad, I miss you,
Your daughter who shares your name
Kevin Hart & Tyrese Defend Ellen DeGeneres Amid ‘Toxic Workplace’ Accusations + Former ‘ELLEN’ DJ Tony Okungbowa Admits He Felt ‘Toxicity’ On Set
Kevin Hart and Tyrese are speaking out to defend his friend Ellen DeGeneres after she was accused of creating a toxic work environment by several former employees. Just recently, former “ELLEN” show DJ Tony Okungbowa went on the record to say he felt the “toxicity” on the set. Oh wow. More inside…
Famed talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has been accused of creating a “toxic work environment,” which has launched a storm of controversy.
Over the years, Ellen has seemingly been unproblematic. However, several people who have worked with the daytime talk show host claim she’s nothing like the bubbly personality she portrays on television. Apparently, it’s a totally different Ellen behind-the-scenes at the EMMY winning series.
One current and ten former employees of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” have anonymously come forward to expose what’s been going down on the set of the “ELLEN” show. The individuals spoke to Buzzfeed News last month on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retribution.
The former employees claim they were subjected to favoritism by executive producers, faced microaggressions and were fired after taking medical leave or bereavement days.
One former employee – a black woman – said she experienced racist comments from senior level producers.
A Black woman who used to work on The Ellen DeGeneres Show told BuzzFeed News she experienced racist comments, actions, and “microaggressions” during her year and a half as an employee. She said when she was hired, a senior-level producer told her and another Black employee, “Oh wow, you both have box braids; I hope we don’t get you confused.” And at a work party, she said, one of the main writers told her, “I’m sorry, I only know the names of the white people who work here,” and other coworkers “awkwardly laughed it off” instead of coming to her defense.
Another former employee said after taking a one-month medical leave following a suicide attempt, they returned to work and were told their position was being eliminated.
After working on The Ellen DeGeneres Show for nearly a year, one former employee said they took medical leave for one month to check into a mental health facility for a suicide attempt. But the week they returned to work, they were told their position was being eliminated.
“You'd think that if someone just tried to kill themselves, you don’t want to add any more stress to their lives,” the employee, whose story was corroborated by four other employees and medical records, told BuzzFeed News. “Some of the producers talk openly in public about addiction and mental health awareness, but they’re the reason there’s a stigma,” they said. “They definitely don’t practice what they preach with the ‘be kind’ mantra."
Some of the other employees said they were instructed by their direct managers to NOT speak to Ellen if they saw her around the office. No specific claims were made against Ellen – mainly these three executive producers who are in charge.
“People focus on rumors about how Ellen is mean and everything like that, but that's not the problem. The issue is these three executive producers running the show who are in charge of all these people [and] who make the culture and are putting out this feeling of bullying and being mean,” another former employee claimed. “They feel that everybody who works at The Ellen Show is lucky to work there — ‘So if you have a problem, you should leave because we’ll hire someone else because everybody wants to work here.’”
Executive producers Ed Glavin, Mary Connelly and Andy Lassner released a statement to E! News addressing the allegations, claiming they are taking them “very seriously.”
”We are truly heartbroken and sorry to learn that even one person in our production family has had a negative experience. It's not who we are and not who we strive to be, and not the mission Ellen has set for us,” the statement reads.
"For the record, the day to day responsibility of the Ellen show is completely on us," the statement read. "We take all of this very seriously and we realize, as many in the world are learning, that we need to do better, are committed to do better, and we will do better."
The show is undergoing an internal investigation by WarnerMedia.
Several of Ellen’s celeb friends have come to her defense, including Katy Perry and Ashton Kutcher. Now, comedian Kevin Hart is coming to Ellen’s defense.
”It’s crazy to see my friend go thru what she’s going thru publicly. I have known Ellen for years and I can honestly say that she’s one of the dopest people on the f*cking planet,” Kevin wrote in an Instagram caption along with a picture of himself and Ellen on her show.
The Night School star said Ellen has always treated him and his family with love and kindness.
”She has treated my family and my team with love and respect from day 1,” he wrote.
Kev said he’s tired of how it seems the Internet preys on people’s downfall.
”The internet has become a crazy world of negativity....we are falling in love with peoples down fall. It’s honestly sad...When did we get here? I stand by the ones that I know and that I love,” he continued.
He concluded his message saying the post was not put up to disregard the feelings of others and their experiences. But, he felt it was important to share what his experiences with Ellen have been like.
”This post is not meant to disregard the feelings of others and their experiences....It’s simply to show what my experiences have been with my friend. Love you for life Ellen,” he wrote.
Around the same time Kevin put up his post in defense of Ellen, one of the show’s former DJs shared what he experienced on the “ELLEN” show set.
Tony Okungbowa, the actor/DJ known as DJ Tony, is the first person to go on record about the alleged toxic work environment. He admitted he "did experience and feel the toxicity of the environment" during his tenure as the show's resident DJ.
"I have been getting calls asking me about the Ellen Degeneres Show and I would like to address the time I spent there. I was on air talent from 2003-2006 and from 2007 -2013," the “Bob Hearts Abishola” actor wrote. "While I am grateful for the opportunity it afforded me, I did experience and feel the toxicity of the environment and I stand with my former colleagues in their quest to create a healthier and more inclusive workplace as the show moves forward."
Hey Guys, I hope you are all keeping safe out there during these trying times. I have been getting calls asking me about the Ellen Degeneres Show and I would like to address the time I spent there. Today, singer/actor Tyrese took to his Insagram page to defend Ellen with a super lengthy post:
Someone get this message to Ellen! Thanks! If I could call her on the phone I would say the words.. Elephants don’t swap flies.. They just keep walking... God made the feathers on a ducks back to somehow have the water to roll off and not penetrate... People in this town and fans will build you UP.... As they watch you climb ALL the way UP the ladder they will stand at the bottom of that same ladder and pull out there biggest GUN and shoot you in the ass over and over and over until you fall... You are MADE FOR THIS..... This too shall pass..... I’ve learned over the years that when things get uncomfortable it’s because GOD is preparing you for the NEW SEASON of your life.... He wants disloyal people to REVEAL THEMSELVES.... He wants people who have went above and beyond for over the YEARS who have no integrity to revel themselves... Ellen was JUST honored and praised for giving and giving and giving [ cause this is what she does constantly on her show and in real life ] and now this? Ellen if you see this message..... You are a GEM of a women and wife..... I am not one of the lucky ones who have hung with you 40 to 50 times over the years... But I know a kind hearted and giving person when I see one and you fit the bill....... Last time I seen you.. You were at the Soho house rooftop in Beverly Hills and I literally sat there and said “There is NO WAY I’m not gonna speak to and hug the great Ellen on the way out”.... And sure enough you stood up and hugged me and smiled and did that usual beautiful Ellen thing.... You will be just fine.... Every set back is a set UP for even more greater things to come..... You can call me anytime I’m not kind at all..... You stay kind, I will be your BAD GUY and fight your battles...... lol [ before y’all even attempt to come for me? Just know I don’t GAF for 1.... and 2? I’m just speaking facts about Ellen based on my own personal experiences and more importantly how I feel about her in general....... Ellen there’s not enough bad articles and or rumors and or bloggers in the WORLD that can undo the beauty that you’ve brought into our world........ Stay strong sis I’m here... #ForeverFan
As of now, Ellen has yet to respond to the accusations publicly. It’s reported she apologized to her staff last week in a letter addressing workplace complaints. Ellen’s wife, Portia de Rossi, showed support of her wife on Instagram.
"To all our fans....we see you. Thank you for your support. #stopbotattacks,” she wrote.
It’s unclear what the #stopbotattacks hashtag is about.
"Ellen’s nice to guests and fans, but with her staff and employees, she has extremely high standards,” a source told US Weekly.
“They know that Ellen can be tough but accept that about her and know that it takes a lot of work to run a tight ship like her show,” another insider said. “They get it.”
5 Great Moments In Entertainment History (Nobody Witnessed)
Today, everything is documented by the millions of cameras in our pockets, on our street corners, or installed in our toilets by our creepy landlords. As a culture, we miss nothing. The internet is our collective memory, and it is omniscient. Praise be to YouTube (may you always like and subscribe). But back in the before times, if something truly unique and amazing happened, you either had to be standing right there to watch it or hope whoever was there had excellent descriptive skills. There are a ton of incredible pop culture moments we just plain missed at the time, and if we want to revisit them now, we can only close our eyes and imagine. For example …
5
Eazy-E Recorded With Guns ‘N’ Roses
Axl Rose was an early supporter of NWA, and that’s surprising, if only for the fact that Axl Rose ever supported anyone. The feeling was mutual; the two groups inexplicably became friendly, started hanging out after shows, and even discussed touring together. But those plans fell through when NWA’s then-manager / real-life cartoon villain Jerry Heller demanded too much money. DJ Yella blames the ensuing fallout for Dr. Dre leaving the group, but even that couldn’t tarnish the beautiful friendship between NWA and Guns ‘N’ Roses.
Eazy-E thought the media treated Guns ‘N’ Roses too harshly after the release of their controversial song “One In A Million.” And E didn’t just issue a statement in Axl’s defense; he recorded a demo for a proposed collaboration. According to Axl, the song “attack[ed] the media over attacking [me],” and it was … not very good. That’s probably why it’s never been released. It’s just as well; try not to think about what their supergroup name would be.
Though there was no official collaboration, the two bands did still jam together occasionally. Slash even played guitar (uncredited) on E’s contribution to the Beverly Hills Cop III soundtrack.
Eddie Murphy’s character’s name in that film?
Axel.
Coincidence?
Probably.
The Star Wars Cast Partied With Monty Python And The Rolling Stones
It all began when Carrie Fisher woke up the night before shooting a famous scene to find Eric Idle and Michael Palin of Monty Python partying downstairs. This is not as weird as it sounds. During filming for The Empire Strikes Back, Fisher was renting Idle’s London house while the Pythons filmed Life Of Brian in Tunisia. Oh, and the Rolling Stones were there too, because they just materialize when enough famous people get loaded together in one place. Drunken calls were made, as they always are, and the other two-thirds of the Star Wars main trio soon arrived:
Eric Idle Along with the guy they shaved to make the Chewbacca costume.
It turned out to be quite a shindig, thanks in no small part to a potent date liqueur Idle had brought with him from Tunisia. It is alternately called the “Tunisian Death Drink,” or “Tunisian Table Cleaner,” presumably depending on the damage done. The Pythons had been using it on set to keep extras awake and make them work longer, because labor laws in the ’70s were either terrible or awesome, it’s hard to tell. It seems the stuff worked as advertised, because the Star Wars cast stayed up until dawn drinking and partying. Fisher and Ford arrived two hours late to the set that morning, with a combined total of zero hours sleep. Wide awake and still shitfaced, they filmed their arrival in Cloud City — one of the few scenes in the series in which they can be caught smiling:
Lucasfilm Possibly because they were still drunk, and possibly because they are the only people to cross the Millennium Falcon off their “Places to do it” list.
And now you know why.
3
George Carlin Got Arrested With Lenny Bruce
Lenny Bruce was arrested for obscenity so many times that he literally lost count. He’s basically the messiah of modern comedy, in that he was … moderately inconvenienced for our sins. But, like, a lot! One of those arrests happened after a show at the Gate of Horn in Chicago in 1962. Bruce performed a set for a small crowd which included a joke about President Truman being “strung up … by the balls.” It was precisely what the undercover policeman in the audience was waiting to hear. Yes, “dick joke stings” were a thing in the ’60s. After pulling Bruce offstage, hopefully with a comically oversized hook, police stood at the door to check the ID of everyone whose party they had just pooped. One of those people was a man who would go on to be widely considered Bruce’s spiritual successor: 25-year-old George Carlin.
And he was completely hammered.
Carlin didn’t exactly respect authority on his most sober days, so it’s no surprise what happened next. He informed the police that he didn’t “believe in ID,” and for the unthinkable offense of sarcasm, he earned his own luxury seat in the police car, right next to Bruce and the club owner.
Bruce sorta knew Carlin from previous shows, but he couldn’t have known that he was now sitting next to the man who would take up his torch one day. So upon learning what his fan and compatriot had gone down for, he looked Carlin in the eye and … called him a schmuck. Carlin had apparently made quite the impression, because according to Penn Jillette, a tape exists of Bruce talking about the “asshole kid” who got arrested with him that night. Don’t mistake Bruce’s vulgarity for malice; it was Bruce who eventually got Carlin his first agent. In the ’60s, being called an asshole by Lenny Bruce was the best thing that could happen to you.
2
Salvador Dali Made A Surrealist Cartoon With Walt Disney
Salvador Dali and Walt Disney first met at a house party thrown by Jack Warner, and they instantly hit it off. Dali considered Disney one of America’s greatest surrealists, and if you’ve seen Dumbo, it’s hard to argue with him.
They got along so well, in fact, that they decided to collaborate on an animated short. It would have been Dali’s only animation credit. It was to include Walt’s animation style, a Mexican love ballad, and as many of Dali’s mind-demons as they could cram in there.
The result was a film called Destino, the heartwarming story of a young woman (that’s Disney’s bit), and the personification of time that falls in love with her (theeeere’s Dali). Featured scenes include dozens of basketball-sized eyes staring at a rapidly stripping woman, who is then sucked into a conch shell, then later has her head morph into a dandelion, and then a baseball, which is nailed for a home run. Baseball as a metaphor for life is cool, but the bread hats could use some explanation.
The project was soon abandoned, so we’ll never see exactly what Waltador had in mind, but it was eventually completed by Disney’s nephew, presumably after a blow to the head knocked some repressed memories loose. His version was screened around the world back in 1999, but considering you were probably deep into your boy band phase at the time, you probably didn’t see it. Fortunately, we have YouTube (praise be, may you always like and subscribe), as well as some truly terrifying concept art.
Jimi Hendrix Jammed With Eric Clapton — And Scared Him Offstage
Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton: We’ve heard the guitar gods cover each other’s songs, but can you imagine them jamming together? Well, you’re gonna have to. Imagine, that is, because it actually happened, but we have no recording of it.
The story goes that while he was still relatively unknown, Hendrix hopped on stage at a college show Clapton was playing and proceeded to melt the faces of everybody present with his rendition of Howlin’ Wolf’s “Killing Floor.” Clapton famously considered that particular song far too difficult to play live, and Hendrix played it with both hands behind his back.
K&K Ulf Kruger/Getty Images And he didn’t even have the tabs to the song.
It’s hard to say how Clapton felt about the whole thing, but actions speak louder than words: He walked right off the goddamn stage. Backstage, Clapton was seen trying and failing to light a cigarette while muttering “Is he really that good?”
Inspired by (or perhaps out of spite for) Hendrix, “Killing Floor” would eventually make it’s way into Clapton’s set list. But Hendrix showed him up again by using it as the opener during his breakthrough performance at the Monterey Pop Festival the following year. We’re not sure what Clapton did to Jimi to provoke such savagery, but one thing is certain: When Clapton eventually passes, Jimi’s going to be waiting for him at the pearly gates with guitar at the ready.
Tony Alpsen is also to blame for Ying & Yan, a weekly comic strip about conjoined twins who can’t stand each other. At press time, it has not been removed from Yingandyan.com, Tapastic, or Twitter. Watch Dawn tweet into the void and wait for the void to tweet back at @DawnSmash.
You too can get trippy with Dali and Disney right here. But be strong. Not everyone can handle watching their childhood melt in front of their very eyes.
A Los Angeles Guide for Rising Musicians: My Journey as a Manager
By: Astrid Hernandez
To become a musician takes talent—maybe that talent is something one works towards over the years, or maybe it’s something they’re born with. Nonetheless, having the ability to make and play music for people is a dream many musicians have, but how easily can it be obtained? Throughout my life, I have met many talented people who wish to pursue a career in music; however, one person who has stood out to me is my friend, Joseph Aleshaiker. I met Joe a little less than a year ago, and right off the bat his charisma and determination to pursue a career in music was astonishing. Having been playing music since he was nine years old, Joe brings together rock elements inspired by bands such as Muse, Queen, and Nirvana while incorporating the Spanish flamenco style guitar to create a hauntingly beautiful sound.
In the couple of months before school ended last year, Joe wanted to get even more serious about his music and decided that over the summer he was going to perform as much as he could. However, as a previous performer he knew just how hard it can be to get gigs. Up until this point I was giving Joe small bits of advice here and there on his sound, merchandise, how he desperately needed a website, and places I’d come across that were offering gigs. Seeing his passion radiating through him, I decided to take on the challenge of being Joe’s manager over the summer and help him get gigs. I figured if a person with no ties to the industry could help a musician perform in front of crowds, then anyone who’s willing to put in the work can do so as well.
With a determined mindset, I notified Joe of my plans and began my journey as a manager. I remember first thinking, “How am I going to do this?” I didn’t know any places that would have musicians come in to play live music. To be quite honest, I was very lost at first, but as time went by it became easier. When I first started I dedicated around six hours a week to solely researching coffee shops, restaurants, and bars that offer live music. By the end of the summer, I was dedicating around two hours a week to the task, simply because I knew exactly what to do to find what I needed. One of the first gigs I found for Joe was a small one at The Republic of Pie in North Hollywood. I remember attending and seeing the 20 people sitting near the stage watching Joe as he played—it was nowhere near a large stage or a full-on concert, but it was a very close and personal gig. We all enjoyed some good food and great music, and that’s how it went for a while.
When I first started sending Joe gigs I wasn’t doing him much of a favor by sending him bigger venues such as Hotel Café. We received rejections and silence from many places. I could occasionally see how it affected Joe, but this only made me more determined to find him places that would give him a yes. However, rejection comes in different forms—a simple silence is more bearable than an email saying, “No thank you, we’re not interested”, and an email is more bearable than performing somewhere three times only to then have them tell you they wouldn't like to have you back. Unfortunately, Joe went through all of these forms of rejection, standing strong through the first two, but having the last form take a toll on him. Hearing someone tell him they wouldn’t like him to return lowered his self-esteem as a musician and caused him to make the decision that he needed a short break from performing. Rejection is a stepping stone all musicians have to stumble upon as a point in their careers, and it’s okay to let it hurt—it’s even okay to take a break, as long as you come back stronger.
Joe ended up playing at Holy Grounds in Pasadena, Tony’s Deli in Anaheim, Nite Light in LA, and The Mint in LA over the course of two months leading up to one of his favorite performances at 626 Night Market. As a person who attends 626 Night Market nearly every year, I knew that the musicians were given actual stages and tend to draw fairly large crowds. I am almost always a person in one of those crowds supporting rising musicians. That day Joe was on an actual stage five feet off the floor looking down at his crowd rather than straight at them like he was used to. His experiences with his smaller gigs had led up to this, and he killed it. With a one hour set and an insane amount of energy, he did his set and radiated energy every second he was jumping around the stage. This is as good as it gets, we thought, a good way to end the summer. However, prior to summer starting I had Joe audition for This is Bruin Life, a huge show at the beginning of the school year designed to welcome UCLA students back to school. When he was accepted to perform in the show, Joe realized he was going to be playing in Pauley Pavilion a little later than he should have. Joe originally thought what he auditioned for was a much smaller event than what I knew it was. So, when This is Bruin Life arrived, Joe performed in a nearly full stadium with around 7000 people in attendance. It was after this performance that we realized this was where we wanted to end the summer. From coffee shops to stages to stadiums, the three month journey in which I set out to be a manager was complete, and the progress Joe made in his performances spoke for themselves.
This summer made me realize just how rough performers have it in LA. While it seems like a huge city, the options for performers aren’t as abundant. Every other week I’d find myself looking into towns on the outskirts of LA because, in reality, there aren’t many places that give rising musicians a chance. I almost always emphasized how I could only find a couple venues at times. A typical email I’d send Joe would read along the lines of
Hi Joe Joe,
I only found 3 more venues this week but hopefully, they end up working out for you! One is more of a music festival and two are venues, so let me know what they say.
Echo Park Rising : Locations Vary - Check out the website before you sign up. This is more of a festival type of thing.
Hi Hat LA : Located: 5043 York Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90042 Some free shows, some you have to pay for, so shoot them an email and see what they say. Oh, check out the website too. [email protected]
Resident : Located: 428 S Hewitt St, Los Angeles, CA 90013 Some free shows, some you have to pay for, same as Hi Hat. “If you’re interested in booking a show at Resident, please [email protected] ”
As always Best wishes,
Almighty dictator
the girl with anger issues
who's also stressing over life... Astrid!
Since we were such close friends, I’d make sure each email had something funny incorporated in it, to which Joe would reply to in a couple of days with a hilarious comment and an update on which places said yes. I’d note every yes on a Word doc in which I’d keep all his potential gigs listed. I truly became invested in this experience. This whole journey truly proves that it is completely possible to perform in front of crowds without the help of a label or a professional manager—all you need is a laptop and a couple of hours to spare. Reach out to other musicians and see how they land their gigs. What is most important is that you have the passion and determination to play no matter how many people are in front of you or how big your stage is.
While I may have been the one emailing Joe on a weekly basis with places he could play at, he got them to take a chance on him based on his talent. When this summer came to an end, so did my job as a full-time manager. However, Joe’s job as a performer hasn’t ended in the slightest. He is still performing and giving his all at following his dreams to make them a reality, pushing through the low moments when they come and performing and enjoying the highs. His next gig is on the 24th of October at the Fowler Museum at UCLA.
Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War press conference blowout!
Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War press conference blowout!
Marvel’s new blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War, which opens on April 27th 2018, has the superheroes joining forces to attempt to stop a threat that is too big for any of them to handle alone … Thanos (Josh Brolin).
The despot of intergalactic infamy is on a mission to collect all six of the Infinity Stones, which will give him unbelievable power to destroy the universe – this leads to an historic showdown.
Disney brought together most of the superheroes for the press junket in Beverly Hills – Chris Evan (Steve Rogers/Captain America) is in New York doing a play. So with 24 members of the cast and crew on stage, appropriately hosted by Jeff Goldblum (Grandmaster, Thor: Ragnarok) each participant was asked one question.
So here are a few words from some of Marvel’s incredible cast:
Robert Downey Jr (Tony Stark/Iron Man)
In this movie, Tony’s domestic life has changed. Can you talk a little about that, and are you in Avenger’s 4?
Robert: Pepper and Tony have clearly resolved their differences. It’s the exact opposite of where Tony has been physically and mentally before; but before long necessity intervenes in the form of Thanos.
Yes, (I’m in Avengers 4). We’ve already filmed it. I’ll have to see in the screening tomorrow. If I die tomorrow I’m going to be confused.
Don Cheadle (Colonel James Rhodes/War Machine)
Your character had somewhat of a tragic arch the last time we saw you in Civil War. Can you talk a little bit about preparing for Infinity War?
Cheadle: I think there’s always a lot of eye-candy and very dramatic things happening, big spectacular fights and amazing things that we see onscreen. And then it comes down to these characters in their inner-personal situations with one another and their personal journeys that they have.
Where it comes to Rhodey, I’m glad that this is something that’s carried through and wasn’t just dropped. It’s a line that actually goes through both of the films and comes into play in a very important way. It’s nice to have something that’s cohesive and continues and keeps me grounded and the character grounded.
Chris Hemsworth (Thor)
Chris Hemsworth (Thor) at the Avengers: Infinity War press conference ©2018 Marvel Studios
What scene did you find most challenging to film for this movie?
Hemsworth: The first day was what you’re seeing on the trailers, Thor meeting the Guardians. It felt like the first day of school for me. They all knew each other and I didn’t, so I was the new kid. I had some weird nervous butterflies floating around my body. But Chris Pratt gave me a big hug and all the butterflies flew out of my ears. That was a fun scene, to have a whole new dynamic and set of people to interact with.
This whole film for me I felt like a fan, meeting a lot of these people and characters that I’ve watched on screen and admired. To be on screen with them as Thor, but as Chris also, was pretty damned exciting.
Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord)
This is the first time the Guardians of the Galaxy characters are in an Avengers film. How does that make you feel?
Pratt: Marvel is doing something the fans have wanted from day one. It is happening and it’s really exciting for the fans, but also on a personal level for me. What an honor to be invited to this table. It feels really good, and I was so grateful for the opportunity.
Tom Hiddleston (Loki)
Avengers: Infinity War – Loki (Tom Hiddleston) ©2018 Marvel Studios, photo by Chuck Zlotnick
Talk a little about your journey as Loki?
Hiddleston: The whole journey has been completely beyond my expectations. The way in which the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been received and embraced by audiences around the world has been the most surprising source of delight for me in my career. I count myself very lucky as an actor to have had the opportunity to play a character that strikes a chord with audiences the way Loki does.
I am astonished that I’m still here. Loki has fallen through a wormhole and faked his own death and I honestly never expected to be playing this part for so long. I think many people can say that. The great privilege that I’ve had is working with every single person on this stage. The writing has been so great, they create these characters with such precision that what happens in the space between those characters is always unique and you’re guaranteed to see that (when you see the movie).
Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/The Hulk)
Avengers: Infinity War – Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) ©2018 Marvel Studios
Ruffalo: Banner has been struggling with excitability because he is afraid to bring out the Hulk. He always felt like he was sitting on his emotions and sitting on his extremes, and in Thor: Ragnarok, he’s not always angry anymore.
So now, Banner’s able to have a little bit more of a human range as a character. He could get angry… he could get excited… he could get upset.
Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange)
Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) at the Avengers: Infinity War press conference ©2018 Marvel Studios
You’ve said in interviews that you’ve read the script for this, but the Russo brothers are saying nobody has read the real final script.
Cumberbatch: I read a script; whether I read the script is for them to know and me to find out when I see the movie tomorrow. But whatever script you read it’s never the film, is it? It always changes. Whatever I read is not necessarily what you’re going to see.
Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man)
Avengers: Infinity War – Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Tom Holland) ©2018 Marvel Studios
Has being a part of the Avengers universe sunk in yet?
Holland: I never in a million years would have dreamed that I’d ever be in one of these movies, let alone playing Spider-Man. It’s a dream come true for me to be part of it. I’ve grown up watching Robert Downey Jr., Chris Pratt and so many of the actors in the film.
For any young actor to be a part of this universe is a huge opportunity and responsibility. I’m just so proud to be a part of it.
Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa/Black Panther)
Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa/Black Panther) at the Avengers: Infinity War press conference ©2018 Marvel Studios
What is T’Challa’s evolvement since we last saw him in Black Panther?
Boseman: Captain America: Civil War set up Black Panther, and that film sets up one of the most important themes for Avengers: Infinity War, which is Wakanda has come out of hiding and its borders are being opened so that its assets and treasures can be shared with the rest of the world. There is a strong camaraderie between Captain America and Black Panther, which builds a certain amount of trust. It opens a door in T’Challa’s heart and creates a shift in him where he begins to try to trust outsiders.
I think we have a strong presence in the movie and it was great to have some of these people, I’m not going to say who, in Wakanda. But it is its own movie and it was great to go from what we did with Black Panther and bring some of that into Avengers.
Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Falcon)
With such a star-studded cast have you had to fight for screen time?
Mackie: Well, a wise man once said, some men need an hour to make their presence felt, some men need thirty seconds.
Josh Brolin (Thanos)
Avengers: Infinity War – Thanos (Josh Brolin) ©2018 Marvel Studios
From the trailer, it looks like you’re fighting everybody but that maybe you’re impressed with a few people. Who is Thanos most impressed with?
Brolin: I looked in the trailer like I was impressed by other people? Then obviously I didn’t do my job very well. Being a person of the color purple and being naked on the set the whole time I was doing this in order to create a vibe of fear. I really thought that I scared everybody, but apparently not.
Who was I impressed by? Anthony Mackie, and strangely enough it only took 25 seconds for me to be incredibly impressed by him! (everyone roars with laughter) Everybody has their weakness, and Anthony Mackie is Thanos’ weakness.
