‘The First Lady of Television’
 Mrs Betty Marion White Ludden (January 17, 1922 – December 31, 2021)
Mrs Betty White was US television's Golden Girl with the heart of gold, celebrated for her comic acting abilities from TV's early days up to the 21st Century, while remaining committed to her animal activism.
She was a pioneer of early television, with a career spanning nine decades and was among the first women to exert control in front of and behind the camera and the first woman to produce a sitcom (Life with Elizabeth) which contributed to her being named Honorary Mayor of Hollywood in 1955.
Mrs Betty White began her television career in the late 1930s. She starred on Life with Elizabeth in the 1950s and maintained her popularity as a TV personality through appearances on talk, game and variety shows.
Following a lengthy run on The Mary Tyler Moore Show in the 1970s, White co-starred in another popular sitcom the following decade with the launch of The Golden Girls.
In sharp contrast to her Sue Ann character, Mrs White played the sweet and naive Rose Nylund on the popular 1980s sitcom along with co-stars Rue McClanahan, Bea Arrthur and Estelle Getty.
Her success carrying into her 80s and then her 90s, Mrs White joined the cast of Hot in Cleveland in 2010 and that year also became the oldest host of Saturday Night Live.
Still making movies into her 90s, Mrs White joined an all-star cast in 2019's Toy Story 4, voicing a tiger teething toy named Bitey White.
Mrs White worked longer in television than anyone else in that medium, earning her a Guinness World Record in 2018. She received eight Emmy Awards in various categories, three American Comedy Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and a Grammy Award. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and was a 1985 Television Hall of Fame inductee.
Animals (real ones, not toys) were always a passion, and she worked closely with the Los Angeles Zoo and the Morris Animal Foundation for more than four decades.
Rest in Power!
