kon dressing up like a pinup doll and getting some glossy photos taken (by cassie and tim specifically bc they have an eye for hoepics) so he can surprise bart, but when bart sees kon dressed up like betty boop, bart’s sad cuz he likes dressing up too :(
cue bart also getting a photoshoot, except he’s dressed like various kinds of nobility throughout the ages, complete with a fake mustache and multiple hats. his photography crew are carol and preston, and that’s how bartkon take their engagement photos, one dressed like a victorian-era wench and the other one dressed like a rajput (bart stole the sword from a british museum)

Hello Rotomblr! The name’s Oz, I’m not telling yall how old i am but just know im not a minor. I live in Unova currently, but I moved here from Sinnoh actually! Trust me, moving from a place like Sandgem to Virbank was a total culture shock 😅
If you haven’t been able to tell already, I’m autistic as shit, specifically about silent age cartoons. I grew up watching my grandparent’s old tapes and renting dvds from the library, and i guess i never really gave up. Mickey Minun, Oswald the Lucky Buneary, Felix the Meowth, I mean I even had a crush on Betty Boop. But the one I could never get enough of was, as you could probably guess, Sally Smeargle. Ever since then, I’ve been collecting videos and merchandise of her and her friends as much as I can. One day I hope to donate my entire collection to a museum, but I’d want to find a lot more before I do.
Since our favorite little witch is almost 100 years old, I thought I’d start showing you all the more obscure things I’ve been able to find. I’m also here to reach out to other people who might have old posters and tapes as well. My biggest wish is to get my hands on old film reels that were never ported to video, so if you know where I could (hopefully legally) find those, please reach out, and please send me pictures of anything you have!

Betty Boop's Museum (1932)
Hi Kendal, how are you doing today? Well, I'd like to tell you about an amazing short movie that I watched this week. It's called "Betty Boop's Museum", released in 1932 and directed by Dave Fleischer. It was made with ink and paper and captured with a camera.
The short is about Betty Boop and her friend Koko. Basically, Koko is recruiting people for a tour in the Museum, but Betty is his only passenger. When she gets in the museum, she looks at the statue of a man who's starving, and her tender heart gets hurt. That's when decides to feed the guy, but she lost track of time, and spends so much time feeding him. At the end of the day, she gets locked in the museum by accident, right when the skeletons come to life and chase her. Fortunally, Betty is saved by Bimbo and they live happily ever after.
The 1930s comes right before one of the biggest economic crises in human history: the 1929 crash. Several people who had money to keep a comfortable life was going poor, even miserable, for you were lucky if you had something to eat. Betty Boop is always in some risk when she leaves home, for she was Jewish and a woman. The message the animated short was trying to convey was to always be safe and to don't put yourself in risk. Particularly, I really like the design of the movie. It's not as fancy as Snow White, but the retro art is fascinating for me and inspired myself as an artist as well. An artist that I really like and is inspired by the 30s art aesthetic is Asia Ellington.

March 07, 2024 – March 13, 2024 The Museum of Modern Art As America approaches 100 years as an animation powerhouse, MoMA is thrilled to present a comprehensive survey of classic cartoons by the Fleischer Brothers, most famous for their Jazz Age creations Betty Boop and Koko the Clown as well as their wildly popular screen adaptations of E.C. “How are cartoons made?”
It’s a question all of us in animation are often asked.
Jesse Kowalski, Curator of Exhibitions at the Norman Rockwell Museum (Jesse did the great Hanna-Barbera exhibition last year), showed a couple of videos with answers –at least, an answer for the 1930s and 1960s– in his lecture today on the history of animation.
The first video was made by Paramount Newsreels about Fleischer Studios (they distributed Fleischer’s cartoons), producer of Popeye and Betty Boop. The second was made by Jesse about classic Hanna-Barbera (before my tenure). Both are fabulous. The process isn’t all that different today, though of course, a lot of the steps have become digitized.
And here's a cartoon from each studio. (Adventure Time fans, pay close attention to the surrealism and design in the Betty Boop, it ought to look a little familiar).

Meet the Latinx Artists Taking Airbrushing to the Next Level

Meet the Latinx Artists Taking Airbrushing to the Next Level

How it started…
“I got my airbrush compressor maybe five years ago. Right before, I started commuting from Bakersfield to LA for this photo lab I used to work at, so I didn’t have any time to play with it back then. But when I finally moved out here and then found myself freelancing for a bit because of COVID, I picked it back up. I started making clothes for myself, and then friends and random people I would run into would be like, ‘Oh, are you selling that?’ And I was like, ‘No—but I could be.’ So it just kind of took off from there.”

The inspiration…
“Betty Boop, Pink Panther, anything vintage and cartoonish. I just love tapping into that because it’s so playful and specific but can also hold an underlying message. For example, you can spot Betty Boop anywhere, but many people don’t know the origin of the character, so instead of erasing her identity like it’s been done before, I’ll make a point to represent her as a person of color.”
What’s next…
“I recently collaborated with Keyla Marquez on a collection of zoot suits as one of 10 featured artists. I love how everyone’s style is so different. As for right now, I’m in the middle of wrapping things up on my book, Not Urz, that’s going to be released October 15 with Beyond the Streets.”
A graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute and recipient of the Yale Norfolk fellowship, Ayala creates work that documents and reflects on the working-class Latinx experience in Southern California. His paintings and sculptures have been exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States and beyond, including the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, Jeffrey Deitch in New York, and the Aishti Collection in Lebanon.

It's almost October (can you believe it?), which means it's the season for scary movies on TCM. Things start out on Friday, Oct. 1 with a daytime lineup of pre-code horror. We'll be DVRing director Fritz Lang's influential German film, The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (1933) airing at 10:30 am ET/7:30 am PT, but there's also a lot of old Hollywood favorites, including The Most Dangerous Game (1932) at 8 am ET/5 am PT and Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933) at 3:45 pm ET/12:45 pm PT. Sunday nights in October will also feature horror films. Director Alfred Hitchcock's thriller The Birds (1963) at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT will be part of a night of creature features.
Here's the best of the rest for the week of Sept. 27, 2021:
1. Citizen Kane (1941) at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT Monday, Sept. 27: Writer/director/star Orson Welles' masterpiece about a newspaper mogul is part of a night of programming featuring the new Academy Museum in Los Angeles. There's something more than a hope that viewers will get a gander at the world's most famous sled before the evening is over.
2. National Silent Movie Day on Wednesday, Sept. 29: Honestly, you couldn't go wrong DVRing everything during this daylong celebration of the artistry of silent films (if you're interested here's a link to the complete September schedule https://www.tcm.com/schedule-monthly...) but we'll point you to the sublime tragic beauty of Maria Falconetti in The Passion of Joan of Arc (1927) at 2 pm ET/11 am PT and the sublime comic beauty of Buster Keaton in Sherlock, Jr. (1924) at 1:15 am ET/10:15 pm PT. The documentaries airing include Be Natural (2018) at 9:45 pm ET/6:45 pm PT a tribute to pioneering female filmmaker Alice Guy-Blache.
3. An Affair to Remember (1957) at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT Thursday, Sept. 30: This all-time great romantic weepie starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr is a great way to wrap up September. An Affair to Remember is part of a daylong lineup celebrating the centenary of Scottish actor Deborah Kerr, who was born Sept. 30, 1921, in Glasgow.
4. Fleischer Animation 100th Anniversary-Part 2 at 10:45 pm ET/7:45 pm PT Saturday, Oct. 2: This compilation of cartoons from the famed Fleischer Studios includes Saturday matinee favorites like Betty Boop and Popeye. My About Post
My name is Josefina. I have been 20 since 7/29/2022.
I work in the parks system and also create and sell independent comic books. I’m on Instagram as @puppetscereal .
Comics/Cartoons
I’m mainly interested in Donald Duck and his family and relatives and friends. I like the comics published by Dell, Western Publishing, & Gladstone. Naturally, I appreciate the cinematic shorts as well. I also like the 1940s package films like Three Caballeros and I am obsessed with Romano Scarpa’s animated video for the Topolino show intro.
I like animation history a lot. I am generally anti-Disney (Walt Disney and the company), but pro-many Disney properties and artists.
As for other comics, I am really into Popeye, by E.C. Segar and the comic books by Bud Sangredorf. I think that is my #1 after Donald and Uncle Scrooge. I also like John Stanley’s take on Marge Buell’s Little Lulu and his Melvin Monster comics, other children’s comics, and introspective, narrative comics like Lynda Barry makes.
I like Fleischer animation a lot as well. I’m partial to Jazz-age Fleischer Betty Boop with Cab Calloway, Don Redman, Louis Armstrong, etc.
I also like some Disney features, like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, and Pinocchio. I usually skip to the good parts though. My favorite characters are the fairy characters, like the dwarfs, the fairy godmothers and Maleficent, and the Evening Star/Blue Fairy from Pinocchio.
"The Supernatural"/"The Unknown"
Speaking of which, I am also extremely interested in faeries, folklore, and the “Other World”. I like Brian Froud’s book, Faeries, a lot as well as several other fairy site guides, anthologies, and encyclopedias.
I am interested in ghosts and have had a few paranormal experiences.
Other
I enjoy primates and learning about them.
My Work
I am also interested in ecology, land management, land design, and public outreach/government communications. I work in outdoor work and park systems. I have worked in nature interpretation and in manual outdoor work. I will probably not talk about this as much on here, but if it comes up I would love to share.
I am passionate about access to public spaces, food distribution, non-consumer third spaces, etc.
I do graphic design and illustration somewhat regularly for IRLs and work projects. I am adjacent to the "high"/museum art world but have many criticisms of it. My favorite way to draw is for fun.
I like to build games and I would like to have an amusement park, venue, or themed restaurant. I have built minigolf and corn hole. I am going to work on pinball this year.
I am in college and I study environmental science, art, and Spanish. I would like to study more policy and history as well.
I am extremely passionate. I can be very particular about what I believe. Please be forewarned that I may post opinions about comics and animation especially. I am trying to be sure not to be mean.
My tagging system is pretty random but #my art is art and various letter tags are for friends/family members.
