This song popped up in my shuffle feed and as I was working in my studio. It made me reflect as to where I first heard it. “El Doctor” an animated short film by Suzan Pitt 1943-2019 (RIP🙏❤️)

“In a crumbling 1920s Mexican hospital, patients with bizarre afflictions are in constant need of medical attention, but the miserable doctor in charge prefers to drink. I had the privilege of taking an experimental animation class at CalArts back in 2016/17 taught by Suzan. She was such an inspiring person to be around. Years laters I find myself digging into the richness of her animations.

Along with the stunning imaginative visual comedic storyline; the films soundtrack is full of beautiful haunting melancholic music. With music by Los Madrugadores, Maya y Cantu, Conjunto San Antonio Alegre, Trio Alegre, and Beto Villa.

Although he is a wealthy man, it is unclear whether "The Count" has acquired his wealth solely through poker or if there are other secret sources of his fortune. He is a master at shielding his private life and concealing his true self from the world.

Beyond his unpredictable appearances in casinos, Dominic lives secluded from the public eye. Whether he has friends or family is unknown. Speculations and rumors about his past and living circumstances are widespread, but he doesn't let anyone peek into his cards.

What prompts Dominic to suddenly step into the public eye and sign up for a Bachelorette show, stirring up rumors? Is he looking to redefine his image or bring a touch of normality into his life? Does he feel lonely in his reclusive lifestyle and yearn for human connection or a romantic relationship? Could he be seeking an authentic relationship untainted by his wealth or reputation as a gambling genius?

Might this show, of all things, offer him a chance to meet someone who appreciates him for his true self, beyond his secrets and his reputation? Dominic isn't the type to follow conventional paths; he's unpredictable, so let the games begin ...

Cacao’s music focuses on how immigration laws have shaped the Mexican identity, and the status of “dreamers.” In his album Undocorridos, Mendoza writes, “Mexican culture is an oral tradition, [ corridos] have been the perfect medium to preserve those stories and highlight the popular culture and keep alive people’s voice, “la voz del pueblo.”

Some songs Mendoza has written include Somos Corridos (We’re Pushed Out), Los Inmigrantes de Stillmore (The Immigrants of Stillmore), DWH (Driving While Hispanic), and Dicen Que la Migra (They say “ICE” is-). Each song holds a significant meaning and story to the immigrants in the state of Georgia.

Los Inmigrantes de Stillmore refers to a roundup of undocumented immigrants in the Georgia town of Stillmore. This song depicts imagery of immigrants hiding in the woods, and the pain of families that have been broken up, “There is no justice for the poultry workers. [It does] Not matter they pays taxes; they are treated as criminals.” Cacao’s song DWH (Driving While Hispanic) makes commentary about how all 50 states have yet to allow undocumented immigrants to obtain a driver’s license.

As of 2021, only 16 US states allow for undocumented immigrants to obtain a drivers license. In the Corrido, officers arrest immigrants for “driving while hispanic” by asking one simple question, “Can I see your driver’s license?” One of Cacao’s most important message is his Corrido, Dicen Que la Migra (They Say “ICE” is- ).

This song combines the storytelling of Corridos with advice for immigrants everywhere, “If they come for your home and knock on your door, don’t open, silly, or the beast would take you along with them, and if they request papers, you have rights, make sure to assert them.”
