i was distracted and in traffic, i didn't feel it when the earthquake happened / i tried to imagine your reaction, it didn't scare me when the earthquake happened
Wanda Maximoff sat in her car, stuck in the middle of New York City traffic. The honking of horns and the hum of engines created a cacophony around her, but she barely noticed. Her mind was elsewhere, lost in the memories of her past with Y/N. She stared blankly out the window, the world around her a blur as she replayed their moments together over and over in her mind.
Meanwhile, across the city, Y/N was at her apartment. She sat on the couch, flipping through an old photo album filled with pictures of her and Wanda. They had been together for years, and every photo captured a moment of their love and happiness. A smile crept onto Y/N's face as she traced her finger over a picture of them at the beach, their faces lit up with joy. But the smile quickly faded as reality set in; they were no longer together.
Back in the car, Wanda sighed deeply. She thought about the first time she met Y/N, the way their eyes had locked across a crowded room. It had felt like fate, an instant connection that neither of them could deny. She remembered their first date, their first kiss, the way Y/N had made her feel so alive and loved. But those memories were bittersweet now, tainted by the pain of their breakup.
Suddenly, the car in front of her jolted forward, and Wanda snapped back to the present. She glanced around, realizing that traffic was moving again. She pressed her foot on the gas pedal, but her mind quickly drifted back to Y/N. She wondered what she was doing right now, if she ever thought about her. Wanda missed her terribly, but she knew she had to move on.
In her apartment, Y/N was startled by a sudden jolt. The ground shook beneath her, and the building creaked ominously. It took her a moment to realize what was happening: an earthquake. She quickly dropped the photo album and moved to a safer spot, her heart racing. As the shaking intensified, Y/N's thoughts turned to Wanda. Was she safe? Was she scared? Was she thinking about her too?
but it really got me thinkin' were you out drinkin'? were you in the living room chillin' watchin' television? / but it really got me thinkin' that night we went drinkin', stumbled in the house and didn't make it past the kitchen
Her mind raced with possibilities. She imagined Wanda out there, maybe at a bar with the Avengers, laughing and drinking without a care in the world. Or perhaps she was at the compound, sitting comfortably in the living room, watching her favorite sitcom. The thought made Y/N's chest tighten. Despite everything, she couldn't stop caring about Wanda.
Meanwhile, in her car, Wanda's mind drifted back to a memory that always brought a smile to her face. She remembered a night not too long ago when she and Y/N had decided to have some fun and drink a lot. They had stumbled home, laughing uncontrollably at something they couldn't even remember. They had barely made it past the kitchen before collapsing on the floor, still giggling like children. The memory was so vivid, so full of warmth and love, that it made her heart ache.
As the car rocked gently with the aftershocks, Wanda clung to that memory, wishing she could go back to that time. She missed the simplicity of those moments, the unguarded joy they had shared. She missed Y/N more than she could put into words.
Y/N clutched a pillow to her chest, trying to calm her racing heart. Her thoughts were still with Wanda. She remembered that night they had come home drunk, how they had laughed until they couldn't breathe, how safe and loved she had felt in Wanda's arms. It seemed like a lifetime ago now.
"Was she thinking about me?" Y/N whispered to herself, the question hanging in the air like a fragile hope.
The apartment grew quiet again, the only sound the distant wail of sirens. Y/N sighed, her thoughts a tangled mess of love and regret. She knew she shouldn't dwell on the past, but it was hard not to when every little thing reminded her of Wanda.
Wanda, now parked safely at the side of the road, took a deep breath. She pulled out her phone, her fingers hovering over Y/N's contact. She wanted to reach out, to make sure Y/N was okay, but she hesitated. What would she say? How could she explain the mess of emotions inside her?
She leaned back in her seat, closing her eyes and letting the memory of that drunken night wash over her. She could almost hear Y/N's laughter, feel the warmth of her body pressed against hers. It was a bittersweet comfort.
Back in her apartment, Y/N's thoughts returned to that night they had come home drunk. She could still see Wanda's smile, hear her teasing remarks. It was those little moments that she missed the most, the ones that made her feel truly alive.
She wished things could be different, that they could go back to the way things were. But she knew that wasn't possible. Too much had happened, too much had changed.
Still, she couldn't help but hope that somewhere out there, Wanda was thinking about her too. And maybe, just maybe, they could find their way back to each other someday. But for now, all she had were the memories, and they would have to be enough.
it's been a year now, think I've figured out how, how to let you go and let communication die out / ah, it's been a year now, think I've figured out how, how to think about you without it rippin' my heart out
It had been a year since Y/N and Wanda had broken up and stopped contacting each other. A year filled with moments of trying to forget, trying to move on, and trying to heal. But despite the passage of time, the memories and feelings lingered, refusing to fade.
Wanda sat now in her living room, staring at her phone. Y/N's contact was highlighted on the screen. She had thought she'd finally figured out how to let Y/N go, how to let the communication die out. But as she looked at Y/N's name, her resolve wavered.
"Should I call her?" Wanda whispered to herself, her fingers hovering over the call button. She sighed, leaning back into the couch, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. It had been a year, yet the thought of Y/N still made her heart ache.
Meanwhile, Y/N sat by her window, gazing out at the city lights. She had believed that with time, the pain of losing Wanda would diminish. She thought that by now, she could think about Wanda without it ripping her heart apart. But she was wrong. The wound was still fresh, the pain still sharp.
She picked up a photo from the table beside her. It was of her and Wanda, taken during happier times. They were smiling, arms around each other, radiating joy. A single tear escaped her eye as she traced Wanda's face with her finger.
Wanda took a deep breath and put her phone down, unable to bring herself to call. She had spent the past year convincing herself that she was moving on, that she was letting go. But in truth, she had only been trying to bury her feelings, not confront them.
"Why is this so hard?" Wanda muttered, running a hand through her hair. She stood up and paced the room, memories of Y/N flooding her mind. She remembered their laughter, their shared dreams, and the way Y/N's eyes lit up whenever they were together.
Y/N put the photo back and closed her eyes, trying to steady her breathing. She had hoped that time would heal her, but every thought of Wanda still brought a fresh wave of pain. She missed her deeply, more than she had ever imagined possible.
"Why can't I let you go?" Y/N whispered, her voice filled with anguish. She hugged herself, seeking comfort in the emptiness of her apartment. The silence was deafening, a stark reminder of the void Wanda had left behind.
Wanda sat back down, defeated. She picked up her phone again, scrolling through their old messages. Each one was a reminder of what they had lost, of the love they had shared. She knew she should delete them, but she couldn't bring herself to do it.
She typed out a message, her heart racing. "Hi Y/N, I hope you're doing well. I've been thinking about you a lot lately." She stared at the words, her thumb hovering over the send button. But then, with a sigh, she deleted the message and put her phone away.
Y/N felt a sudden urge to reach out to Wanda, to hear her voice, to know if she was okay. She picked up her phone, her hands trembling. She typed out a message, then deleted it, then typed it out again.
"I miss you, Wanda. I think about you every day."
But she couldn't send it. She knew that reaching out would only reopen old wounds, and she wasn't sure she could handle that.
Wanda sat in the dark, her mind replaying their last moments together. She had hurt Y/N, and she regretted it deeply. She wished she could take back the things she had said, the pain she had caused. But it was too late for regrets.
She whispered to the empty room, "I'm sorry, Y/N. I'm so sorry."
Y/N finally put her phone down, a heavy sigh escaping her lips. She knew that holding on to the past was only causing her more pain, but letting go seemed impossible. The love she had for Wanda was too deep, too ingrained in her soul.
She looked out at the city once more, a silent prayer escaping her lips. "I hope you're happy, Wanda. I hope you're okay."
And so, they both sat in their separate spaces, hearts heavy with the weight of what once was and what could never be again. It had been a year, and they both had tried to move on, but the love they had shared still bound them together in ways they couldn't fully escape.
The distance and silence between them were filled with unspoken words and unresolved feelings. They had both learned that time alone couldn't heal all wounds, and some loves, no matter how painful, were impossible to forget.
i know, you know, we know, you weren't down for forever and it's fine. i know, you know, we know, we weren't meant for each other and it's fine
The room was dimly lit, the air thick with tension and unspoken words. Y/N and Wanda sat on opposite ends of the couch, the silence between them deafening. It was the day they had both been dreading, the day they decided to break up.
Wanda looked down at her hands, her fingers twisting the hem of her shirt nervously. "Y/N, I don't know how to say this, but... I can't keep doing this. My life as an Avenger, it's too dangerous. You deserve better, someone who can be there for you all the time."
Y/N's heart ached at Wanda's words, but she nodded, trying to hold back her tears. "I understand, Wanda. Your job is important. I always knew it would come to this."
Wanda's eyes filled with sorrow as she continued, "You're safer without me. I've seen too many people get hurt because of what I do. I don't want that for you."
Wanda reached out, her hand trembling as she touched Y/N's. Wanda's voice broke as she spoke again, "I wish things were different. I wish I could be the person you need me to be. But I can't, and I'm so, so sorry."
Tears welled up in Y/N's eyes as she squeezed Wanda's hand. "It's okay, Wanda. It's not your fault. You came into my life and showed me what love could be, even if it was just for a short time."
Wanda's tears flowed freely now as she looked into Y/N's eyes. "I hate that I'm doing this to you. I hate that I came into your life just to break your heart."
Y/N shook her head, wiping away her own tears. "Don't say that. You didn't just break my heart. You also filled it with so much love and happiness. I'll always cherish that."
Wanda pulled Y/N into a tight embrace, holding her close one last time. "I love you, Y/N. Please remember that."
Y/N clung to Wanda, feeling her heart shatter into a million pieces. "I love you too, Wanda. Always."
They stayed like that for a few moments, holding onto each other, knowing it would be the last time. Finally, they pulled apart, their eyes red and swollen from crying.
Wanda stood up, her legs feeling like lead. "Goodbye, Y/N. I hope you find someone who can give you the love and stability you deserve."
Y/N watched as Wanda walked away, her heart breaking with each step. "Goodbye, Wanda. Take care of yourself."
As the door closed behind Wanda, Y/N sank to the floor, her body wracked with sobs. She had told Wanda it was fine, but deep down, it was anything but fine. She felt like her heart had been ripped out, and she didn't know how she would ever heal from this.
That night, Y/N lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, replaying their last conversation over and over in her mind. She knew Wanda was trying to protect her, but it didn't make the pain any less. She missed Wanda already, missed her presence, her warmth, her love.
Meanwhile, Wanda sat alone in her apartment, tears streaming down her face. She knew she had made the right decision, but it felt like the hardest thing she had ever done. She loved Y/N with all her heart, but she couldn't keep putting her in danger.
Both of them lay awake that night, hearts heavy with sorrow and regret. They had loved each other deeply, but it wasn't enough to overcome the challenges they faced.
but if the world was ending you'd come over, right? you'd come over and you'd stay the night. would you love me for the hell of it?
Y/N thought the disaster was over as the tremors subsided, but she was wrong. The ground began to shake violently once more, and when she looked outside, her eyes widened in horror. The ground shook more violently, buildings crumbled, and the sky was filled with smoke and debris. It wasn't just an earthquake; the city was under attack. Aliens and enemies of the Avengers were wreaking havoc, destroying buildings, and spreading chaos.
Her heart raced, but it wasn't out of fear for herself. Her thoughts were consumed by one person: Wanda. She picked up her phone, her thumb hovering over Wanda's contact name. She wanted to call her, to hear her voice, to know she was safe. But she knew that was impossible. Wanda was an Avenger, and she was undoubtedly in the thick of the battle.
At the Avengers Compound, Wanda was in a tense meeting with the team. Tony Stark, Captain America, Black Widow, and the others were strategizing on how to fend off the attack.
"Alright, people. We need to contain the threat in the city first," Tony Stark said, his suit already forming around him. "We need to split up and tackle these invaders on multiple fronts. Wanda, you and Vision take the east side. We need to protect as many civilians as we can. Thor, Banner, and I will handle the west." Tony said, his voice commanding attention.
Wanda nodded, "Got it." she replied, her voice steady. "Alright, team, let's move out." Steve commanded.
Back at the apartment, Y/N sat back down on the couch, her phone still in her hand. She felt strangely calm despite the destruction outside. It wasn't fear that gripped her but a deep sense of longing. She opened Wanda's contact again, staring at the picture of them together. She missed her so much.
Meanwhile, Wanda and Vision were in the east sector, using their powers to shield civilians and fight off the alien attackers. Wanda's mind raced between her mission and thoughts of Y/N. She knew she had to protect the city, but she couldn't shake the worry for her love.
"Wanda, focus!" Vision said gently, noticing her distraction.
"I'm trying!" Wanda replied, her voice strained. "I just... I can't help but think about Y/N. I hope she's okay."
"She's strong," Vision assured her. "And we will protect this city and everyone in it. Let's do what we came here to do."
Wanda nodded, redoubling her efforts. She blasted enemies with her chaos magic, clearing a path for civilians to escape.
all our fears would be irrelevant, if the world was ending, you'd come over, right? the sky'd be falling while I'd hold you tight. no, there wouldn't be a reason why we would even have to say goodbye
Back in the apartment, the building shook as another explosion rocked the city. Y/N took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. She knew Wanda was out there, fighting to keep everyone safe. She had to believe in her.
"Fuck it." Y/N muttered under her breath and dialed Wanda's number. The phone rang, but Wanda didn't answer. She knew it was a long shot, given the chaos outside, but the call instantly went to voicemail.
Y/N sighed, bringing the phone back to her ear. "Wanda, if the world was ending today, you'd come over, right?" she said instantly, knowing that her words would go straight to voicemail.
She paused, listening to the silence on the other end, the faint sounds of explosions and sirens filtering through the walls. "I don't know if you'll hear this, but I just need to say it. I miss you, Wanda. I miss us. All our fears and worries... they don't matter now. If the sky was falling, I know you'd come to me. We'd hold each other tight, and there wouldn't be a reason why we would even have to say goodbye."
Tears welled up in her eyes as she continued, "I still love you, Wanda. I hope you're okay out there. I know you're fighting to keep us safe, but please be careful. I'll be here, waiting for you to come home."
Y/N ended the call, her heart heavy but somehow lighter after saying what she needed to say. She put the phone down and looked out the window. Everything around her was falling apart—the buildings, the ground, people screaming outside. Yet, she felt a strange sense of peace.
if the world was ending you'd come over, right? you'd come over, you'd come over, you'd come over, right?
It had been two years since the battle that had nearly torn the city apart. The streets, once filled with chaos and destruction, were now bustling with life and normalcy. The citizens were slowly rebuilding their lives, and peace had finally returned.
Wanda Maximoff was in her car, driving through the city. The memories of the battle still haunted her, but today she was determined to confront a different kind of ghost. She was on her way to visit Y/N.
As she drove, her mind drifted back to the day she heard Y/N's voicemail. It was just after the battle had ended, and the city was in ruins. Wanda had been in the middle of the fray, fighting alongside Vision and the other Avengers. The adrenaline, the fear, and the urgency had kept her focused. But when she finally had a moment to check her phone, the voicemail from Y/N brought her to her knees.
"Wanda, if the world was ending today, you'd come over, right?" Y/N's voice had been calm, almost resigned. "I don't know if you'll hear this, but I just need to say it. I miss you, Wanda. I miss us. All our fears and worries... they don't matter now. If the sky was falling, I know you'd come to me. We'd hold each other tight, and there wouldn't be a reason why we would even have to say goodbye. I still love you, Wanda. I hope you're okay out there. I know you're fighting to keep us safe, but please be careful. I'll be here, waiting for you to come home."
Wanda's heart had shattered when she heard those words. She had dropped her phone, tears streaming down her face, the weight of her love and guilt crashing down on her.
Flashbacks of the battle filled her mind as she drove. She remembered the moment she had found Y/N's apartment building, reduced to rubble. Panic had set in as she frantically searched through the debris, her powers moving massive chunks of concrete and metal. Her heart had stopped when she found Y/N, buried beneath the wreckage.
The scene replayed in her mind with agonizing clarity. Wanda had cradled Y/N's lifeless body, tears pouring down her face. She had screamed for help, but it was too late.
Y/N was gone.
Now, two years later, Wanda parked her car at the cemetery. Her steps were slow and heavy as she approached Y/N's grave. The weight of her grief and regret pressed down on her with every step. She knelt beside the grave, her fingers tracing the name etched into the stone.
"Y/N," she whispered, her voice breaking. Tears pooled in her eyes, spilling over as she spoke. "I'm so sorry."
Wanda's shoulders shook with sobs as she continued, "I miss you every day. I hear your voice in my dreams, and I see your smile in my memories. I thought I could protect everyone, but I couldn't protect you. You were everything to me, and I lost you."
She stayed there for what felt like hours, talking to Y/N, pouring out her heart and soul. She recounted their memories, their laughter, and their love. She spoke of the future they had dreamed of but never got to live. And she apologized, over and over, for not being there when it mattered most.
"I'm so sorry, Y/N," Wanda said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I love you. I always will. I failed you, and I have to live with that. But I promise I'll keep fighting, for you and for the world you believed in. I won't let your memory fade."
She pressed her forehead against the cold stone, her tears soaking into the ground. "I hope you're at peace now. I hope you know how much you meant to me. You were my world. I'm so, so sorry."
As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the cemetery, Wanda finally stood up. She wiped her tears but the sorrow in her heart remained. She placed a gentle kiss on the gravestone, a final farewell to the love of her life.
"I'm sorry, Y/N," she whispered one last time. "I wasn't there when the world was ending. I'm sorry, I didn't come. I was busy saving the world, and I failed to save you. I failed to save my own world."
With a heavy heart, Wanda walked back to her car. The city was at peace, but her soul would forever carry the scars of that day. As she drove away, she made a silent vow to honor Y/N's memory, to keep fighting for the world they had both believed in, and to never forget the love they had shared.
if the world was ending, you'd come over, right?

Y/N'S POV Lizzie and I had been together for five years. We met in college, fell deeply in love, and spent countless nights talking about our dreams and aspirations. We were each other's rock, supporting each other through thick and thin.
But how can a perfect relationship turn into a toxic one where we barely talk anymore?
I sit and watch you reading with your head low
I don't know what happened. I don't know how to fix it, it that I didn't even know exist. One second we were fine then the next, we're like strangers.
All I could do is sit here and watch her read the script for her new movie. Reading with her head low and sitting far away from me, almost as if I have a disease. As if there's an invisible wall between us.
We would always sit in silence, her pretending to watch TV or read books, but the tension between us was palpable. I know she could feel my eyes on her, but she never spared me a glance. It was as if she was avoiding me intentionally.
Minutes ticked by, and I decided to make her food. After making anchovy, I gently touch her on the shoulder. She jumped, startled, and looked up to find me standing next to her, holding out a plate.
"I made you your favorite," I said softly, my voice barely above a whisper. "Anchovy toast."
Lizzie took the plate from my hand, "Thank you." she replied before looking back at the script once again.
I simply nodded and sat down where I originally sitting, and focused on my own hands folded in my lap with a sigh.
I wake and watch you breathing with your eyes close. I sit and watch you, I notice everything you do or don't do, you're so much older and wiser
I woke up around five in the morning, the sun hadn't completely risen yet, but the little lighting shone through the curtains, casting a soft glow across the room. My gaze fell upon my girlfriend, who lay beside me sleeping lightly. The rise and fall of her chest matched the rhythm of her breathing, a calming sight that used to bring me comfort.
As I lay in bed, I couldn't help but watch my partner, Lizzie, sleeping peacefully beside me. I stayed there, watching her for a moment and appreciate the sight before me. But despite the serenity of the scene, I still felt a pang of sadness in my heart.
Lizzie had always been a restless sleeper, constantly shifting positions throughout the night and sometimes even talking in her sleep. But tonight, she was lying completely still, her face calm and relaxed. If someone saw it, they would instantly let it go and think that she's in a deep slumber but I'm not just someone.
I know the truth.
She was pretending to be asleep and it felt like she didn't want to wake up beside me, like she is simply tolerating my presence.
I wait by the door like I'm just a kid, use my best colors for your portrait
They were small things I did for her, but meaningful nonetheless. Always wait by the door every day to greet her, to offer and show her some love and comfort after a hard day at work. I would always stand there, gazing out into the evening sky, hoping to catch a glimpse of my lover making her way home from work. It didn't matter what time it was, or how tired I am after a long day, I always made sure to be there, waiting for Lizzie.
I even took painting classes as it seemed to ease my mind. I poured all of my emotions into my painting, using every color in the palette to capture the beauty of Lizzie's face. I spent hours each day working on the portrait, trying to convey the depth of my feelings for her and I'd use my best colors for her portraits.
Lay the table with the fancy shit, and watch you tolerate it
I had always been a perfectionist when it comes to cooking and entertaining. I would always spent hours in the kitchen, preparing elaborate meals and setting beautiful tables for my lover. I would carefully select the finest ingredients, meticulously prepare each dish, and arrange the table with exquisite linens, flowers, and candles.
I'd make her favorite dishes, lay the table with best cutlery and yet again, no matter how hard I tried, she never seemed to appreciate my efforts. All Lizzie gave back were strained smiles, small and almost whispered hums, and nods in acknowledgment of my attempts, and a whisper of "thanks," as she shoveled the food into her mouth, barely taking the time to taste or savor any of it.
she seemed to simply… tolerate it.
If it's all in my head tell me now, tell me I've got it wrong somehow
Despite my best efforts to communicate openly and honestly with Lizzie, I felt like she wasn't really listening to me, and it made me feel invisible. I began to wonder if I was overthinking everything, if maybe I was the one who was misinterpreting our interactions. Maybe I was being too sensitive, too needy.
Maybe I was the one who was crazy, paranoid.
I felt so alone, so lost, and so unsure of what to do.
I know my love should be celebrated, but you tolerate it
I began to feel like I was living in a dream world where everything I created was invisible to everyone else. It was as if I was speaking a language that nobody understood, except for my own echoes in mind.
"Liz," I said with a trembling voice, "I've been giving everything I have to make you happy, but it feels like you don't see or appreciate it anymore. I feel taken for granted."
My choice of words caught her off guard, she paused for a moment before responding. "Y/N, I never asked you to do all these things for me. I don't need grand gestures to feel loved, I thought you knew that."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Was this really what our relationship had become? A constant stream of argument and neglect?
Tears welled up in my eyes as I realized the disconnect between our expectations. I had been trying so hard to show her love in a way that I thought she would appreciate, but it had only pushed us further apart.
And it happen, I finally snapped.
I felt a surge of anger and frustration well up inside of me.
Why was I putting so much effort into something that seemed to bring her no joy? Why did I care so deeply about pleasing someone who didn't seem to care about me at all?
I knew, I couldn't keep living this way, constantly pouring my heart and soul into something that brought me nothing but pain and disappointment. I realized that no matter how much I gave, Lizzie would never truly reciprocate and still, I constantly yearn for someone who clearly did not want me.
With a heavy heart, I packed my bags. Our relationship had become toxic, with me constantly sacrificing myself for someone who didn't appreciate me. I knew it was time to leave, before I lost any more pieces of myself.
Before leaving, I took a one last look, the last thing I want to remember was the way Elizabeth used to laugh at my jokes, enjoy our food, take me out on dates. The last thing I want to remember was how she used to love my presence, and not just tolerate it.
Maybe one day someone would be enough to have their love celebrated by her.
