After applications closed at the end of April, the tournament ran from May 10th, 2024 to October 28th, 2024, just a few days shy of six months! During this time...

★ 143 competitors joined the tournament and made friends ★ 1,813 Propaganda posts were made by the community supporting those competitors, and reblogged to the @kirbyoctournament blog ★ 202 polls were made pitting your favorites against each other ★ across those polls, 43,165 votes were cast ★ and of all these, winners starstruck dee and Rope MF received 1179 votes and 699 votes respectively over the course of the event

★ RANDOM STATS

★ 36% (52) of entered OCs were of the "orb" species, with 33 of those taking up the mantle of "knight" specifically. far and away the most represented species ★ Waddle dees were the next most common entrant, with 17 OCs. ★ Ripple Fairies were the least showcased non common-enemy/custom species type, with only a single representative! ★ Of all OC names, "S" was the most common initial at 16 OCs, a statistic we do feel is influenced by the frequency of "sir" before names. Removing those, it was the letter "A", with 13. ★ The least successful initial was the letter "J", with all but one of their 4 representatives (75%) falling in the first round.

Once again I thank you all so much for supporting me during the Kirby OC Tournament. Especially all my followers & mutual who humored me with all the poll reblog stuff.

As promised the lore. (And I've been cooking this turkey for a while and it's ready to come out of the oven.)

Fair Warning contains spoilers... I will not be explaining all the details of what happening. This is incredibly vague & via musical... so I won't spoil that much (since this does take place during the final arc... Void Termina Saga). The events that are being shown do not happen exactly how they are portrayed, however the essence of what's happening is the same.

Morgan shall be singing "Last Midnight from Into the Woods,"

(OH NO WHAT'S HAPPENING TO KIRBY...Sorry, I can't explain it just yet... Nor why Meta Knight's mask is broken in half... maybe he got into a fight or something, hold the phone I thought Galacta was trapped in insanity... what happened... Sorry if I tell anything of that it'll spoil the good stuff)

Dame Morgan: It's the Last Midnight

So in summary: After they refuse to hand Kirby over, Morgan reveals there's a traitor in their midst... Fumu is the reason why Kirby is in the state he is in (Fumu is currently regretting her life choices). Leaving Meta & Gala shocked, and scared to death at Kirby's current state, while Kirby is sad, and betrayed again...~

And Morgan just having herself a time, living her best life~

In the KBASW series, she tricks three major characters:

Namely: Queen Ripple, Hyness, and Fumu/Tiff. (the most devastating one she tricks)

Dame Morgan is basically a mixture of: "The Witch" from Into the Woods, Morgan from (Merlin's 2008 TV series), Eris from Sinbad (she has the voice of Eris), and the Joker from Batman.

Morgan represents the opposite of Celestine... (via Morgan vs. Merlyn wizard rivalry) The Anti-Celestine so to speak~

The one person she hates more than Arthur is Merlyn/Celestine.

Celestine sees magic as a tool, not a solution or the answer to your problem... promoting true self-improvement comes from within. For there will always be...: another bridge to cross, another monster to slay, another woods to go into. The only way to ever truly be prepared in this world is to learn from each other... and to be kind to one another & share the experience. If you cheat your way throw life will just get harder and move with you... Being better and leading a good example will inspire others to be better along with you.

The change starts within, with us...

While Dame Morgan:

Life is unfair, you play by their rules, you follow the system, sacrifice everything to fit the mold, and yet you can still be cheated out of what you deserve...

And you're telling me I should just "hang in there," "hold on", "it's gonna be okay eventually keep smiling".... nah? Let's stop "pretending to be good", everybody is just in it for themselves so... if you do that you're just a fool waiting to be tricked.

Why not live just for yourself... why not cheat back... why not be the bad guy? That's why her theme is "Stella Jang(스텔라장) _ Villain(빌런)

Morgan represents the easy way out, a quick fix... to blame someone else...an escape. How did she obtain this dark magic... The Jamba Heart...Granting everyone's selfish desires... the reason why everyone falls for it is because she has the charisma to make the offer far too tempting and to pass it up, no.

And guess who was her first customer... Hyness~

The biggest change I probably did the to mix anime & game lore. (Kirby Star Allies) In KBASW AU... Morgan the one who convinced Hyness the Jamba Heart was what he needed to restore his clan. It's the reason she's able to stay hidden for a long while...Allowing the negative to naturally corrupt him and use him as a figurehead...

Despite giving him the Jamaba Heart... she did not tell him exactly how to break the seal on Termina... (Whoops she must have forgotten, how clumsy of her...) Purposely having him fail~

However, the secret to this lies with... FUMU!? Due to the reincarnation of the first ruler of Dreamland... she holds the key to unsealing & controlling Void Termina... She throws them to the wrong person. She's very much tricked into thinking she's helping "Kirby," but... yeah this happens instead.

And of course, there's always a price... though once you do realize you've been bamboozled, she'll remind you that she gave you a choice... Ultimately making you realize it's your own fault at the end of the day. Very much rubbing your head in the mess you've made for yourself. (which is exactly what she's doing to Tiff/Fumu right now.)

In summary, she pretty much invites you to be your worst self; she's the villain but deliciously so! :3

The Great Marx & Magolor Tie

AHHHHH omg thank you!! 😭😭 i'm really happy to hear that! i guess i should start by explaining exactly what my smashverse actually is lol. basically i follow the idea that smash bros is an alternate universe where all video game worlds exist together in one, so the meta knight i draw on my sideblog isn't the same meta knight from the "canon" kirby games (the kirbyverse). of course, this means the events of smash (subspace, world of light etc) are unique to him. might seem unnecessary but it's just the way i like to do it lol, i feel like it grants more worldbuilding freedom and also justifies certain characterization differences. i won't even get into the implication that smash characters are toys, that's a whole other can of worms

ANYWAY!! in-universe, smash games are divided into "tournament seasons". registered fighters have rooms at the smash castle, but there's no rule saying they HAVE to stay there or enter every tourney (for example, kirby could just be at home in dream land one day and not partake in any smash activities). just like in real life, smash tourneys are always happening, but sometimes there are bigger tournaments held called "majors". it's up to the individual fighter if they want to enter or not, but meta knight has one of the best track records of showing up, even if he doesn't always win. there are prize pools, and fighters can also be sponsored (meta knight is sponsored by the gates of hell, rodin's bar from bayonetta). currently, the smash castle is pretty empty and turnouts tend to be low. but when a new game is released (a new "season" begins), the place is packed and brimming with activity.

the timeline basically follows meta knight from brawl, where he absolutely decimated the competition and became that season's champion, to wiiu, where he got a lil slack (nerfed) after growing too accustomed to winning and neglected to keep up the strict training regimen, and finally to ultimate, where he's mostly just focused on supporting younger newcomers and only really enters tournaments for his diehard fans who continued to stick with him even as his rank fell from #1, to #16, to #50 over the years. basically he's just a lame dad now lol, but people still really respect him for what he's accomplished. i talked a little more about his individual relationships with other characters over here!

i apologize for how long-winded this was lol, my smash fixation has come back strong in the past year or so BUT REALLY THANK U FOR ASKING <3

- Please put an image when submitting (especially if the character is a background character/nameless)

- You can't submit more characters at once (except if they are canonically a duo/trio/quartet or more both from platonic and romantic nature) (just don't exaggerate submitting things like the "strawhat crew", "cabin 7" or the "owl house" or teams with way too many member (like 4+ members). I understand the indecision but sometimes it can be too much)

- Characters from Harry Potter, DMSP or Hazbin Hotel are not going to be accepted for personal opinions

- No IRL people but characters that are caricatures and interpreted by the IRL person are accepted

Example: "Ramboo (IRL Youtuber) deserves more screentime 🚫"

"Ramboo (character from Generational Loss) deserves more screentime☑️"

- Don't be (the creepy and horny type of weird) weird about them please

For a while I’ve thought about having a Kirbysona, personally deciding between NESP and Poppy Bro, but I wanted to ask you something

Is it normal to have multiple sonas for a particular fandom?

Lemme ask, What is "normal?" A set of standards made by someone else?

I wonder how many people here were online during like the late 2000s, early 2010s- when I remember seeing "Mary Sue" discourse happening a lot in the Kirby fandom. It was so mean-spirited for no reason. There was a lot of pointing and laughing and gossiping about characters that didn't "conform to a certain standard of canon." What really was the harm of appropriately shipping OCs and canon? Giving them tons of cool powers or being best friends with their favorite characters and saving the universe a bunch? The existence of someone else's story and characters doesn't erase or overwrite anyone else's!

I'm really happy to see that negative attitude has faded over time and there are more positive celebrations of people's characters, like the OC Tournament or Artfight! :)

Anyway, sonas represent YOU! If you feel like an NESP one day, and a Poppy Bro another, I say be BOTH! Be a shapeshifter! Or just have multiple forms! That doesn't need to be logically justified! We are fluid beings, and allowed to change and feel differently as time passes! Don't make chains for yourself by conforming to what is "normal!" Break free! Keep your sense of whimsy! Especially in a universe like Kirby where basically anything is possible! The only rule is that there are no rules!! When it comes to your art and writing, you are your own boss! >:D

Also, I don't think I've seen Poppy Bros or NESP sonas yet. That sounds super duper fun and creative!! Everyone's Kirbysonas can hang out in Dreamland and eat fresh apples and take naps under trees and enjoy each other's company over a picnic. <3

I don't know how you do it, but I haven't recognized any of these characters (except having a very vague idea of who William Afton is) and just looking at the pictures, I almost always decide to punt. Something about the pictures you choose (I think it's their typical facial expressions combined with the angle of their heads but idk) makes my go my foot is ready. Special shout outs go to the two falling anime girls, who were coming down at the most optimal punting trajectory possible, and the Kirby dude, who was soccerball shaped for my convenience. Also, turns out I can't bring myself to kick a cat, no matter how evil he(?) might be.

actually, the truth is i also don't recognise the vast majority of the characters you guys submit

honestly, sometimes i think you guys are speaking in tongues

the thing is, even though i sometimes joke that i literally have no applicable skills other than tumblr polls, that's not entirely true

turns out, after 7 months of running @hot-take-tournament i have developed exactly one applicable skill

i've never once received a take on a fandom i'm familiar with, so when i make polls and puns and personalised yes/no responses i always do it from scratch

as a result, i've gained the ability to scour the internet for information on pretty much anything extremely quickly

and i am able to use that in real life, it genuinely really helps at college

to give you an idea of how fast i am, when i get a lot of punting submissions all at once, sometimes i like to set myself a time limit of 15 minutes and then see how many characters i can research and poll within that time

not to brag, but my current personal best is 16

that's a poll on a character i know nothing about, complete with a picture and popular fandom tags, queued every 52 seconds

so basically, i don't recognise the characters, but give me a dedicated half hour and i'll know all your blorbos better than you do
