"The best trips, like the best love affairs, never really end" 2/2
Our SPITI travel circuit: Mumbai > Chandigarh > Narkanda > Sangla > Tabo > Pin valley > Rangrik > Langza > Komic > Hikkim > Kaza > Chandratal > Manali > Delhi > Mumbai, was for 14 days from 22.08.2024 to 04.09.2024 with Terraveller.
...continued from Part 1 of our jeep safari with stargazing to Spiti, mentioned at the end of this post.
DAY 5 PIN VALLEY to RANGRIK (near Kaza) 28.08.2024:
We reached Rangrik. It was near and ahead of Kaza, but it had peace and was not crowded like Kaza. We stayed at Hotel Norling-inn for 2 nights and used to have buffer dinner and breakfast here.
Tumblr media
One of techies in the group created this sticker of our friend and we all had fun pulling her leg. She took it sportingly.
Tumblr media
At night, social games were played in the rooms and everyone stayed awake to participate. It was a game of verbal accusation based on suspicion, defense based on circumstances and so-called enemity between friends. Haha.
DAY 6 RANGRIK - LANGZA - KOMIC - HIKKIM - KAZA - RANGRIK on 29.08.2024.
We had our breakfast at Rangrik and drove to the sitting Buddha of Langza.
Tumblr media
We broke into a jig to a local song being played by our driver in the vehicle at Langza.
Tumblr media
And we drove to the world's highest restaurant at 15,049 feet at Komic to have lunch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the highest lunch, it was time to connect with family and friends. We drove to the world's highest post office at Hikkim.
Tumblr media
It was mandatory to refuel at the world's highest petrol pump in Kaza.
Tumblr media
There was a HUGE surprise at Kaza for all of us. Tosh bhai, founder of Terraveller had sponspored a dinner treat for all of us at the luxurious restaurant, The Himalayan Cafe. This cafe provided books and board games along with delicious dishes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As usual we played our social games by assembling together in one of the hotel rooms. Whosever room was occupied for the game, couldn't sleep till everyone decided to stop the game and retire by midnight.
DAY 7 RANGRIK to CHANDRATAL on 30.08.2024.
After our breakfast at Norling Inn hotel, we started our journey to the highest point of the jeep safari, Lake Chandratal.
Our lunch was at Losar around mid day. The locals of Losar welcome the tourists sweetly by saying, "hello Sir, Losar". It was quite funny. Cafe Samsong was our lunch point.
Tumblr media
We crossed the camping site of Chandratal at least 3 kms before the lake around 3:10 pm.
Tumblr media
I was happy that we were in time. Kudos to Tosh bhai, founder of Terraveller that he got us here in time. We had ample time to explore the lake.
Tumblr media
And we completed the circumabulation of Chandratal lake, watched the sunset to return to our camp site, Spiti Expedition UC Camps in the twilight. We had a small stargazing session here, post dinner. We wrapped ourselves in our woollens in the cold and windy darkness of Chandratal.
Tumblr media
By the time we returned after stargazing, some had already retired in the warm and cozy tents.
DAY 8 CHANDRATAL to MANALI on 31.08.2024.
We had a good breakfast at Chandratal camp site and left for Manali. The road is long and arduous. Bhavik bhai, who was less fortunate to get the last seat in the vehicle (we had rotation system and everyone got every good and less good seats in the tempo traveller vehicle) must have had a trip of his lifetime. आत्मा परमात्मा एक हो गया.
The roads and the weather is such that you get hungry quickly. We had stopped at Chacha Chachi Chandra Dhaba. The elderly couple who own the dhaba also are super heroes, who have played crucial part in saving lives of many tourists stranded in the mountains.
Tumblr media
We crossed the 9 km Atal Tunnel in 10 minutes. A journey that used to take couple of hours, that may extend even more due to traffic or natural calamities, was now reduced to minutes!
Tumblr media
Lahual welcomed us with its green velvety mountains and we had a tea break at Dorni dhaba. We washed ourselves with the cool waters of a naerby stream here.
Tumblr media
We had lunch at 3 pm, after crosiing the Atal tunnel, but before reaching Manali.
Tumblr media
Our Manali hotel - Snow Peak resorts and cottages was luxurious and those who had booked the shorter trip, checked out. The rest of us checked in.
Tumblr media
Me and my friend were enthusiatic about exploring Manali on foot as soon as possible and we ventured out within 15 minutes of check-in, around 5 pm. We covered Hidimba temple, Ghatotkach temple, Khatu Shyam temple and Manu temple on foot. The darshan at each of these places was divine.
Tumblr media
We were hungry after a walk to these temples, nestled in the hills of Manali and had momos at Green forest cafe behind Hidimba temple in Manali.
Tumblr media
We were happy that we had one more night in Manali.
DAY 9 MANALI on 01.09.2024.
Today was trip to the left bank of Manali, Naggar-side. The breakfast at our luxurious hotel was quite sumptuous and varied.
Tumblr media
I really don't remember what we had at the restaurant of Naggar Palace. Basically trout was on everybody's mind, but there was some film shooting going on and the restaurant couldn't serve it.
Tumblr media
BY the time we reached Manali, I was famished and was feeling weak. I had tea with biscuit at the Manali bus stand. Tosh took us to Manali sweets, a restaurant famous for its tea and snacks. We had chole-samosa, jalebi and tea here.
Tumblr media
It turned out to be an appetizer for the famished soul. Tosh suggested Super Bake restaurant on the Mall road and described that slice pizza would be available here. It wasn't.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of our friends had paid a visit to their local friends in Manali and they prepared Siddu, which is a local dish. It is bread with either sweet or savoury filling. Our friends got siddu for all of us, those who missed this local delicacy.
Tumblr media
I still repent what followed after the gluttony of these cakes. I was bloated and we tried pan, which didn't help. FInally we decided to walk slowly to the hotel, even if it meant an uphill climb. For the next two hours we walked very slowly, halting for almost 45 minutes at the Hidimba temple. I swore not to overeat again.
I thought I had retired until my friends pulled a successful ghost prank on me.
DAY 10 MANALI to MANDI on 02.09.2024.
This was going to be the second last day of our tour. We all decided to go slow and soak in the most of the trip, now that it was about to end. We had a slow breakfast at the Manali hotel and as usual, it was sumptuous. We were going to Parashar lake and it is quite far. It took almost 6 hours to reach. En route, we stopped at a resort named Heavenly Forest for lunch. The steaming hot rice with dal and a dollop of butter was delicious. It was raining outside as we relished this lunch.
Tumblr media
We returned after sightseeing Parashar lake and were dropped at Mandi bus stand, as our bus to New Delhi was to be boarded. A couple had flight the next day and were dropped at the hotel at Mandi.
Tumblr media
The rest of the friends had extended plans to stay in Manali and they returned and reached Manali around 2 am.
DAY 11 MANDI on 03.09.2024.
Though I was not for the stay in the Mandi hotel, my friends were gracious to share the photos of their breakfast.
Tumblr media
That ends my trip, as we reached Mumbai from New Delhi. I relived my experience while writing this post. Hope you all enjoyed reading it.

"You can think well, love well, sleep well, if you have dined well." 1/2
Terraveller experience: comfortable stay with great food and friends for company when I travelled to Spiti from 22.08.2024 to 04.09.2024 (14 days).
Our travel circuit: Mumbai > Chandigarh > Narkanda > Sangla > Tabo > Pin valley > Rangrik > Langza > Komic > Hikkim > Kaza > Chandratal > Manali > Delhi > Mumbai.
DAY minus 1 MUMBAI TO CHANDIGARH 22.08.2024: by train.
Tumblr media
The peanuts of Bharuch are famous for their bigger size and best flavour. We skipped the train meals to enjoy a Domino's pizza.
Tumblr media
DAY 0 CHANDIGARH 23.08.2024:
A fully furnished and fully AC 3-BHK flat with 2 master bedrooms booked via AirBnb.
Tumblr media
We experienced a paranormal activity here.
Tumblr media
Our evening snacks at Khanna's Nukkad Dhaba at Zirakpur.
Tumblr media
We enjoyed the dinner at P. Bhagat Tarachand at Zirakpur.
Tumblr media
DAY 1 CHANDIGARH TO NARKANDA via Shimla 24.08.2024:
We had breakfast at Bikanerwala in Zirakpur, Punjab near Chandigarh.
Tumblr media
We reported with Terraveler at 10 am. Our driver Mr. OmPrakash Thakur was a local himachali person from Mandi.
Tumblr media
Lunch was the Verma's home stay and restaurant, after crossing Simla.
Tumblr media
We sipped tea watching this gorgeous sunset while our tempo traveler refueled.
Tumblr media
After a long ride starting at 10 am in the morning, we reached our destination, narkanda at 8 pm and we all were relieved to get out of the vehicle. We checked in the Treeline cottages at Narkanda.
Tumblr media
Even when we were tired, I got my friends out under the dark open sky to observe the Milky Way and the constellations of Scorpio and Sagittarius.
Afterwards, we headed for the dinner at the restaurant of Treeline cottages.
Tumblr media
We had breakfast overlooking the apple orchards which are nestled between the tall and dense conifers on the slopes of the mountains.
Tumblr media
DAY 2 NARKANDA TO SANGLA 25.08.2024:
After visit to Rampur Bushahr palace, which didn't even provide the tourists with public convenience we bought some fruits at the local market. These apples are from Thanedar, the birthplace of apples in Asia. They were fresh, crunch and juicy.
Tumblr media
We then headed to this restaurant on the highway. The split curds were the highlight of the menu.
Tumblr media
We were always sightseing even while traveling in the vehicle. Tosh was informing us about the importance of the places we were passing by. Sometimes, we halted for photos too.
We reached Chitkul, the last or the first Indian village along the Indo-Tibetian border. Again we were facing the problem of public convenience and I went ahead to find washrooms for our group of 14 at Chitkul. The first restaurant denied us, even when we were ready to be their customers. The second restaurant welcomed us and provided us with a clean washroom. In all this search, I made a deal with the second restaurant that I will ensure 14 tea &/or snacks are ordered by our group. Now after getting refreshed, it was announced that we have a time limit of half an hour and everyone opted to sightsee in Chitkul. I ordered my tea and waited for it to be served and then many friends sat at the table. Even if we may not be all 14 at the restaurant, the number was healthy and I was happy to give back to the restaurant, who welcomed us for the loo-break. In this bargain, I lost the time to see Chitkul, but Tosh was gracious to me allow a walk in the village. In fact, he came and showed us the old village too! I was happy, that I didn't miss anything - the tea or the sights.
Tumblr media
Afterwards, we backtracked to Sangla. Here we were staying in Hotel Prakash and our meals were at Hotel Prakash regency, which is just opposite it.
Tumblr media
Our dinner at Hotel Prakash Regency.
Tumblr media
DAY 3 SANGLA to TABO 26.08.2024:
Breakfast here at Sangla was with a view of Kinnaur Kailash mountain, which is always shrouded in clouds.
Tumblr media
We moved ahead and reached the devil shoulder, Mt. Reo Purgyil - which overlooks the sangam or confluence of River Spiti and River Sutluj at a place called Khab. The sun was hot and so was the lunch at this roadside dhaba which was managed by the woman power of that village.
Tumblr media
Rajma Chawal and Chowmein noodles are the staple dishes of this region.
Tumblr media
After the sightseeing the Nako village and the lake, we reached Tabo and checked-in at Lari village at bungalow, Samdup Khangsar Homestay. The hosts of this place were warm and gracious local folks, who welcomed us in their family and ensured that we as their guests had a fabulous experience. We stargazed from terrace of this bungalow.
Tumblr media
Dinner at Tabo (photo is awaited).
DAY 4 TABO to PIN VALLEY 27.08.2024:
Breakfast at Lari's bungalow home stay.
Tumblr media
We had traditional breafast of Tibetian bread (phaley) with a dollop of butter, spicy green chutney and curds. The fresh apricots were complimentary from the host.
Tumblr media
We reached Dhankar Gompa and Tosh of Terraveller offered us a choice between a trek to an high altitude Dhankar lake and lunch at the restaurant of the monastery. Few of us opted to trek and the rest enjoyed the lunch of thukpa and Tibetian omelette with bottled gauva juice.
Tumblr media
Those who trekked to Dhankar lake had a lunch of fresh plums and scenery. 13 people and a box of plums, literally.
Tumblr media
After tea at the Dhankar gompa's restaurant, we restarted our journey to one of the remote regions of Spiti - Pin Valley. We reached Mudh village in the dark around 8 pm and were dead tired from the arduous journey. Nobody clicked photos here at Sonam Tara Home Stay at Mudh village as we all were tired. Also the dinner photos were skipped. But there is a priceless memory which had been shared by a friend. Kudos to Tosh bhai of Terraveller.
Tumblr media
DAY 5 PIN VALLEY to RANGRIK (near Kaza) 28.08.2024:
We woke up fresh and our breakfast was here opposite our home stay at Tara Traveller's cafe at Mudh, Pin valley.
Tumblr media
Kaza was on the menu. We explored it on foot and Tosh recommended Cafe Piti for lunch. Though the service was late, it was made up by the courteous staff and the taste of the food served. There were fossils on display at this restaurant.
