How to Choose the Best Game Development Company?
In the fast-paced world of gaming, selecting the best game development company can make or break your project. Whether you're an indie developer with a passion project or a large corporation looking to create the next blockbuster, choosing the right partner is crucial. But with so many options out there, how do you sift through the noise and find the perfect match? Let's dive into the key factors that will help you make an informed decision.
Tumblr media
Understand Your Project Needs
Before beginning your search, it's crucial to have a solid grasp of your project requirements. Are you developing a 2D or 3D game? What platforms are you targeting? Do you need a company with expertise in certain best game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine? Knowing what you need will help you narrow down your options and find a company that specializes in your specific requirements.
Check the Company's Portfolio
One of the best ways to gauge a company's capabilities is by looking at its portfolio. A strong portfolio should showcase a variety of projects, demonstrating the company's ability to handle different game genres and platforms. Pay attention to the quality of the games they've developed, the complexity of the projects, and whether they've worked on similar projects to yours.
Evaluate Technical Expertise
The best game development company will have a team of skilled developers, designers, and artists who are well-versed in the latest technologies and trends. It's essential to evaluate the technical expertise of the company, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence, physics engines, and animation. Don't hesitate to ask about the technologies they use, their development process, and how they ensure the quality of their work.
Consider Communication and Collaboration
Effective communication is key to a successful game development project. You need a company that not only understands your vision but is also responsive and open to feedback. During your initial interactions, assess how well the company communicates and how willing they are to collaborate. A company that values transparency and keeps you in the loop throughout the development process is likely to be a reliable partner.
Look for Client Testimonials and Reviews
Client testimonials and reviews provide valuable insights into a company's reputation and reliability. Look for feedback from previous clients to see how the company handled past projects. Were they able to meet deadlines? Did they deliver on their promises? A company with a strong track record and positive reviews is more likely to deliver high-quality results.
Consider Cost vs. Value
While cost plays a significant role, it shouldn't be the sole factor in your decision. It's essential to weigh the cost against the value the company brings to your project. A cheaper option may seem appealing, but it could lead to subpar results or delays that could end up costing you more in the long run. The best game development company will offer a balance of quality and affordability, ensuring you get the best bang for your buck.
Check Post-Launch Support
Game development doesn't end with the launch. You'll need ongoing support for updates, bug fixes, and potential expansions. Make sure the company you choose offers post-launch support and has a clear plan for maintaining and improving your game after it goes live.
Evaluate Their Passion for Gaming
Finally, consider the company's passion for gaming. A company that is genuinely excited about your project and the gaming industry as a whole is more likely to go the extra mile to ensure your game's success. Look for signs of enthusiasm and a strong interest in your project during your discussions.
Conclusion
Choosing the best game development company is a critical decision that requires careful consideration. By understanding your project needs, evaluating portfolios, assessing technical expertise, and considering communication and cost, you can find a partner that will help bring your game to life. Remember, the right company will not only have the skills and experience but also the passion and dedication to make your project a success. So take your time, do your research, and choose wisely—the future of your game depends on it!

(while i am crumbling into pieces from cramp pain)
back when they announced the totk masterworks book i said i wasnt happy about it bc it would either
prove they thought all this was good from the start and everything went as planned
show us that they had unbelievable better ideas and plans but for some unknow reason scrapped it all
as it stands now with the concepts i have seen ... they somehow did both, some things seemed to have been planned fro mthe start (the whole focus on sonau/zonai stuff for example, which i personally just dont like bc i liked them better as an unkown mystery you never get to meet) and other stuff (like ganondorfs concepts, or the infinitely cooler castle in the sky esque concepts for the sky islands, instead of some nonsensical, meaningless little stone crumbs) was much, much more interesting initially (together with the interviews that said they initially planned to have the battery be a magic meter and make the sonau more magic than tech- but then decided to build their stuff around modern electrical devices just so players would immediately know what it was an what it would do -why????? thats so boring?? and unecessary ?? and they still give you tutorials for it anyway, multiple times??!!- for some ungodly reason)
it makes me more and more sure that this game, that took 6 years to make with most assets already being there (the same time that botw took to make?????????), went through a similar development hell as that one final fantasy game did where the director decided to make it an entirely different game every few weeks bc he saw something cool in another game-
its the only thing that makes sense to me, why else would it be so weirdly ... unfinished, its full of grand ideas badly executed, or like i said in a previous post, like an alpha build (weird! did someone in charge also see cool stuff every few months and decide they wanted it in there too no matter what so everyone had to scramble to try and put it in making the whole jenga tower fall over and over??), just to test how far you can push things, with placeholders everywhere, the same cutscene pasted in where another should be and a placeholder reason to get players to go soemwhere (fake zelda) and rough ideas for puzzles etc, that was never finished, jsut highly polished (in looks, sounds and presentation) in hopes of it being 'good enough' or players not noticing (like, take the underground for example, the idea itself is fantastic and cool as fuck, but its feels like an idea that was never finished and just barely fileld with some things to try and cover up the fact that it was never done, like a statue that wasnt done being carved but ran out of time so they painted it anyway- take the base map and invert it, put some easily accessible points of jumping down into it in random spots to test if the game can handle it- no time left to actually get that idea anywhere more specific and well thought out/put together, so its left like that, put the same texture everywhere, barely modified copies of the same enemies, and some little reward spots that make no sense, modelling three types of trees and an enemy camp is way quicker to do than actually making an entire new map (they didnt have to make it the same size btw, just make it big but unique caves, put the gravity effect down there in enclosed spaces! makes it less weird to have randomly happen in the sky! etc) but its there!! its in the game and if they are lucky most players wont go down there enough to notice how meaningless and unfinished it all is)
knowing they would most likely never admit to it though, probably bc of their reputation, is just addign to the frustrations i have with it :I
(i just hate to not know the reason for things, if the devs, who are usually the ones being worked to the bone for things they know arent good, where put through that bc some executive big shot threw their tables around every so often or neglected their project bc they wanted to focus on something else first ... id like to know, i dont enjoy making up these conspiracy (?) theories .......... but i cant shake this feeling, its jsut makes no sense)

im not excited for pokemon z because i have zero faith in gamefreak, as we all should at this point, but i do hope it is good. i do hope it’s another chance for kalos to really wow people. i remember getting Y back when it came out, and it was. Fine. the most Fine pokemon game i’ve ever played, then and now. it had the unfortunate fate of being a follow up to black/white 2 (some of the best pokemon games ever made) and being the mainline transition to 3D (something they’re still struggling with tbh.) they suffer a lot from those growing pains, a lot of x/y feels underdeveloped or bland. but i really hope this game gives the region new life because all the pieces were there.

climbs back onto the stage to continue a two day old post. also people hating rachel bc she’s rich suck bro she’s 15 what do u want her to do 😭 rr likes writing rich people with helicopters it’s not her fault
#haha i tricked u by making a small little post. now i will continue the two day old post's tags >:]#rachel was: well within her rights to like percy. also to kiss him. he reciprocated and she backed off easily when he didnt#percy was: well with his rights to like both rachel and annabeth. also to kiss rachel. annabeth has zero ownership over him#even if she’s his best friend who likes him. percy’s communication skills or whatever idk#i haven’t read the books in 30 years are not awful. you could argue he’s leading them on but i disagree bc He doesn’t even know what he want#also rachel is in a unique position of being a mortal that understands him and can keep him company during the school year and#it’s not hard to see why percy would be drawn to that. sometimes love triangles go beyond the people it’s about the kind of life he wants.#also he's 15 lol 😭#annabeth was: well within her rights to like percy and to be jealous that her crush is hanging out with a girl that likes him.#she was Not: within her rights to treat rachel badly. at all. she was very needlessly rude.#she also has deep set problems with abandonment that gives her behavior context but does not make it right. part of reading a series abt#teenagers is seeing them mess up and act immaturely. annabeth would not be a compelling character if she was born always right and flawless.#been growing up and becoming their best selves Together for years. a flawless annabeth with a flawed percy would suck for both#of them. her fatal flaw is literally hubris omg it’s not hashtag girlboss to make the female lead perfect 😭#LISTEN. love triangles are so interesting when done right. what does it say about the character that they’re drawn to#these different people. what does it say about the life they want or the mindsets they value. what does it say about them when#they choose someone. beyond choosing a partner what kind of life are they choosing. what exactly are they committing to.#what made them realize this. and what does it say that they ever seriously considered the one who was rejected. romance is often written#as a tool for character development and there are specific themes surrounding the process and the conclusion.#best example for this is the hunger games (which obviously is not similar to pjo at all lol.)#percabeth is more compelling when u accept that percy Actually liked rachel and was considering a relationship with her and#by extension a life more tied to the mortal world.#also if you read all this [sicko meme voice] HAHA YES now u have to join my discussion circle.  please answer my questions:#1. Do you think it’s more acceptable to be “the other girl” in media nowadays?#2. List an example of a love triangle you believe was handled well. What did it bring to the story#and what does it say about the themes and characters involved?#3. Is there a piece of media you wish had a different romantic pairing for a character that would’ve have deepened the themes#of the story more than the actual pairing? Does the canon pairing take away from the themes or do you just think it’s less effective?#4. if you have a sad cat picture please send it to me im running out

Tens of thousands of people have been fired in the tech sector in the last six months alone. With the economy the way it is, and with people who are already unable to get a job, I wonder how an extra 20,000+ jobseekers are going to have any luck finding work.
#i just want to point out that this isn't just automation. it's different for every company but a lot of it comes down to profiteering imo#the video game industry made disgusting amounts of money during the pandemic. best three years of sales in history#but that momentum was never going to keep up forever. even when the momentum was at full swing people were getting laid off#Activision-Blizzard laid off over a hundred people just before christmas while bobby kotick got a $250 million bonus#thst might have even been before the pandemic#but you're seeing it with microsoft and ubisoft. wouldn't surprise me if sony and nintendo were following suit in a less public manner#microsoft - arguably the biggest tech conglomerate in the world (next to tencent) - laid off 10 thousand workers alone#i live in a town with just over 10 thousand people. in my entire fucking town. in my perspective that's more or less the world around me#all of those people - jobless#facebook - didn't like 7k people just get fired? that's hot on the heels of john carmack leaving too#john carmack is probably one of the top 100 people in the tech industry. his tech improvements helped aging PC hardware keep up for years#DOOM might be a meme but it ran that well because id software under john carmack revolutionised rendering techniques and scrolling#and stuff like that. john carmack has been at the forefront of graphical technology and game development for 30+ years#that's resulted in a couple duds like RAGE. he was also all-in on voxel technology before he moved into VR#all of that was context for this: john carmack left meta (who bought oculus) and lambasted the company for poor management on the way out#saying that he'd never seen such unnecessary and wanton expenditure in his career. meta were throwing their money at things thay don't work#here's john carmack trying to lay the groundwork of a successful game for meta's metaverse. here's meta chasing superfluous buzzwords#meta spent almost $14 BILLION on buzzwords and marketing at the behest of the actual tech. and then they FIRED 7000 PEOPLE!!!!!!#they had a HAIL MARY working on their game - because metaverse IS A GAME - and they prioritised SELLING THE PRODUCT BEFORE BUILDING IT#IT COST THEM $14 BILLION + THEIR HAIL MARY - AND THEN THEY FIRED THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE!!!!!!#Ubisoft and Activision-Blizzard have been facing mass resignations after years of abusive and toxic workplaces#and on top of that they're firing people too. google stadia just went under. it wouldn't surprise me if 2k and rockstar were firing people#I don't know how many other unemployed people there are in america - hundreds of thousands? but 20k more is even worse for everyone#keep in mind that even with a $14 billion loss - meta still makes billions. Microsoft is in no financial danger#tech is more lucrative now than ever. i genuinely believe that these cuts are to keep record profits at record heights#because the pandemic boom is ending and their ALREADY OBSCENELY LUCRATIVE revenue flows are going back to normal#so 20k+ tech workers are losing their jobs to keep $80 billion instead of $79 billion. all of those people - jobless#that's 20 thousand people with individual lives and families and expenses. lost their jobs in the last six months#that example i gave - $80 billion instead of $79 billion. that's not revenue. that's profit.#all of those people out of work due to incompetence at best and rank orofiteering at worst. their salaries and benefits come under revenue

been meanin to pick up the reboot again to formulate more Bad Opinions on it. i have tons even right now though
i’ve been thinking about how i see its approach to being a “Saints Row” game in the context of the rest of the series. like sr1 and 2 knew exactly what they were and embraced it, they’re the result of the experimental era of the then fresh open world crime genre by people who were hopefully passionate and excited about what they were making. srtt and sriv are all wrapped around how much they are Not SR1 and SR2 Anymore You Guys, like they’re some really weird navel gazey/inwards turned creative endeavors that only worked in the moment if ever, but they definitely do engage with what came before a whole lot. the reboot... doesn’t really care either way. it’s not interested in any of the source material one bit and for the most part does not engage with it beyond some very surface level stuff if you’re generous. you can definitely tell the srr team were taking notes on what features worked and did not work in the old games (as you should), but it doesn’t really feel like it went beyond technical aspects like “people want layered clothing back”. “passion” isn’t something that you could ever demand of developers, this is ultimately their job and it’s the video game industry and most of these people had probably never worked on sr before, but i can’t help feeling bad anyways when the game just gives such a sense of cold detachment and lack of affection for what it’s supposed to be rebooting
like i know it’s supposed to be a whole new start. an attempt at redefining what “Saints Row” means, maybe. if the game actually did something that strongly resonated with a whole new audience that’d be one thing, but... it really didn’t? people overall just really don’t seem to care for it and while some of its numerous issues can be fixed with patches, some are unfortunately just built in and a symptom of wider issues at the company

I slept in and just woke up, so here's what I've been able to figure out while sipping coffee:
Twitter has officially rebranded to X just a day or two after the move was announced.
The official branding is that a tweet is now called "an X", for which there are too many jokes to make.
The official account is still @twitter because someone else owns @X and they didn't reclaim the username first.
The logo is 𝕏 which is the Unicode character Unicode U+1D54F so the logo cannot be copyrighted and it is highly likely that it cannot be protected as a trademark.
Outside the visual logo, the trademark for the use of the name "X" in social media is held by Meta/Facebook, while the trademark for "X" in finance/commerce is owned by Microsoft.
The rebranding has been stopped in Japan as the term "X Japan" is trademarked by the band X JAPAN.
Elon had workers taking down the "Twitter" name from the side of the building. He did not have any permits to do this. The building owner called the cops who stopped the crew midway through so the sign just says "er".
He still plans to call his streaming and media hosting branch of the company as "Xvideo". Nobody tell him.
This man wants you to give him control over all of your financial information.
Edit to add further developments:
Yes, this is all real. Check the notes and people have pictures. I understand the skepticism because it feels like a joke, but to the best of my knowledge, everything in the above is accurate.
Microsoft also owns the trademark on X for chatting and gaming because, y'know, X-box.
The logo came from a random podcaster who tweeted it at Musk.
The act of sending a tweet is now known as "Xeet". They even added a guide for how to Xeet.
The branding change is inconsistent. Some icons have changed, some have not, and the words "tweet" and "Twitter" are still all over the place on the site.
TweetDeck is currently unaffected and I hope it's because they forgot that it exists again. The complete negligence toward that tool and just leaving it the hell alone is the only thing that makes the site usable (and some of us are stuck on there for work).
This is likely because Musk was forced out of PayPal due to a failed credit line project and because he wanted to rename the site to "X-Paypal" and eventually just to "X".
This became a big deal behind the scenes as Musk paid over $1 million for the domain X.com and wanted to rebrand the company that already had the brand awareness people were using it as a verb to "pay online" (as in "I'll paypal you the money")
X.com is not currently owned by Musk. It is held by a domain registrar (I believe GoDaddy but I'm not entirely sure). Meaning as long as he's hung onto this idea of making X Corp a thing, he couldn't be arsed to pay the $15/year domain renewal.
Bloomberg estimates the rebranding wiped between $4 to $20 billion from the valuation of Twitter due to the loss of brand awareness.
The company was already worth less than half of the $44 billion Musk paid for it in the first place, meaning this may end up a worse deal than when Yahoo bought Tumblr.
One estimation (though this is with a grain of salt) said that Twitter is three months from defaulting on its loans taken out to buy the site. Those loans were secured with Tesla stock. Meaning the bank will seize that stock and, since it won't be enough to pay the debt (since it's worth around 50-75% of what it was at the time of the loan), they can start seizing personal assets of Elon Musk including the Twitter company itself and his interest in SpaceX.
Sesame Street's official accounts mocked the rebranding.
