Happy STS! My first time participating, so I'd like to spread some positivity. Would you care to share something about your writing that you're proud of, be it a snippet, strong suit, scene, theme, etc? - @new-royston-cursebreakers
Happy STS and thanks for the ask, @new-royston-cursebreakers!
I dug around and found the very First draft of Crater City, which was written almost a year ago on August 18, 2022! I will be celebrating its birthday soon, Yes. Starting this story is an Accomplishment in itself, and something I am very Proud of!
This draft used to be the very Beginning of the story, back when I wrote linearly. And also back when the story started out with Blair and Elijah having a pre-established relationship. But yeah, I can share a piece of it after the line break!
...
Section 1.1: At the Diner
(Note: it's in Blair's POV)
The night was stormy. It was 3:30 AM when my phone buzzed, alerting me of Elijah’s tragic accident. I was in my fifth dream and getting to the best part–but that's beside the point. I had no choice but to put on a shirt and some pants and drive my ass to the arcade.
I took the freeway and barreled at a speed of 90 in a 70, headlights struggling to keep up with the thick summer smog. I could hardly see where I was driving, so I rolled down the window to smell the way to the arcade. The aroma of pizza and crime filled the car, so I knew it wouldn't be too long until I'd reach the place. Suddenly, the car moved on its own. The steering wheel waved back. Going once…going twice…going thrice…sold!
After the triple donut had concluded, I arrived at the scene.
There were no police or anything because of the sheer number of crimes that occurred on this side of the river, so I was on the lookout for suspicious characters. In the alleyway behind the arcade, lay Elijah, unconscious. I checked his pulse. Cold. I tried to do some of those chest compressions I saw in a movie once, fear climbing up my throat as I realized that in approximately 2.5 seconds, I had to make mouth-to-mouth contact with my best, most platonic friend in the whole wide world. I–
“Oh my god, stop it!” Elijah, unable to hold back laughter, slammed his body against the booth. “‘My best, most platonic friend…’?”
“But you don’t understand, Elijah, I had to resist every urge to make it not look platonic. For the police records." Getting a police report was a privilege these days, so trying to bump up the likeability a notch would help appeal to the boys in blue. Paying for a police report was hard enough as it was.
Elijah scoffed from across the table, “You didn't mention the part where all I texted you was a keyboard smash before passing out.” He ran a hand through his side-shaved green hair. “Seriously, how did you know I was in trouble?"
"Don't be ridiculous," I took a sip from my coffee, now empty, "You don't ever use numbers in your key smashes unless you're drunk. And you're only drunk when I'm with you. And," I leaned over the table with a crooked smile, "We agreed to get drinks the next night. That's how I knew something was up."
Elijah rolled his eyes. "Call it a hunch, I guess..." traces of melancholy were in his smile. He averted his eyes to the window where the tiny people walked a few stories below.
The incident happened a month ago, yet his wounds still seemed fresh. We both understood the severity of that night, yet there wasn't much we could do. With those bastards on the loose, there was no telling if or when they'd strike again.
The only reason we were out in town was because Elijah hadn't been out of his apartment in weeks. It took a bit of bribing him that my plan was flawless before I tied him up and threw him in the passenger's seat, so I'd say things went pretty smoothly. Ultimately, we chose to go to some hole-in-the-wall cafe, none of which the likes of his aggressors could catch wind of. I was like his bodyguard now.
It made me feel sick to see him hurt. I took in his presence in front of me. It'd been five years since we'd known each other and we'd been through some rather unfortunate circumstances. It was insane how we were both still alive. But we promised to stick together no matter what.
Maybe it's the side effects of acute radiation poisoning, but every time my eyes catch a glimpse of his face, there's this golden halo that surrounds him…
"Blair?" Gah! Elijah must have caught me staring at him because his face began to flush. I snapped out of my daydream.
“You’re so cute.” My tongue slipped and it came out like a drunk confession. I leaned into him for a kiss, brushing his lips for a brief moment, then making a direct shot for his drink straw. Bingo. He scowled.
Elijah and I were getting cold glares from the other patrons in the coffee shop. I quickly checked myself: I'm pretty sure I zipped up my pants…I washed my hair yesterday…I even flossed this morning because I ate chicken and I hate it when the stringy bits gets in my teeth…
What was I forgetting? I tilted my head. Maybe it was the intriguing story about Elijah? Perhaps they were jealous. I wouldn’t blame them because I think it’d be an honor to become a news story right after the weather’s announced. That weather girl is fine…
“What? Something about that weather girl?” Elijah was reading my thoughts! Or maybe my thoughts materialized and radiated onto my surroundings. He looked up at the screen in the corner of the ceiling and smirked, “Yeah you’re right, she sure is pretty.”
I scratched my head, “I kinda wish I knew what she was talking about…you know, on the news?”
The news was always talking about things like global warming or nuclear threats or rads or how the world technically ended 5 years ago, yet scientists were surprised that we as a species have still made it. I never really cared too much about it, though. What was there left to do anymore? Besides, I wanted to get to the bottom of who beat the shit out of my boyfriend. The news mentioned neither a "Mister" nor a "Star" yet. What does it take to get some notoriety in this place?

oH top 5 n9/league aus you'd want to see come to fruition ☺️
HELLO yes let's GET IT thank you @lapis-lazuliie!
OKAY so honestly to start off with, definitely the Ross and Varney one because that is such a fucking banging plot!! Like wHAT? Totally not just because of um... sexy vampire Ross, what do you meAn?
Chinnery and Bedford, hello? They would totally be best buds, or even more than that 🥰 like I can just imagine Urban always being there to help him when another veterinary appointment goes wrong, reassuring him that he isn't a failure aWw
Hmmm... Legz Akimbo and Jim! I can just imagine Legz Akimbo being Jim's start before he went into real theatre! For some reason, I can really picture Ollie liking Jim more than Phil and Dave. I think it would be purely platonic though, they best buds. Just imagining Jim just staying out of his way when Ollie has one of his outbursts.
The Pat/Geoff theory I had! Technically it's not an AU but just... it could be! Pat running off to Royston Vasey for some reason, I don't know! I just love that!
And one of my favourite theories of all time, Stella and Stu being SIBLINGS! Like the similarities in both appearance and personality is uncanny, I wouldn't be surprised if this was canon. I wish it was ahhhH lads please make this come true. Like I can just imagine them throwing it down at a club together, drinking martinis. Stella is definitely the reason Stu is in S H I T with Carl, just saying 🤚🏻
Thank you for the suggestion!!

OC-tober Day 6: Mask
Everybody wants to be somebody, and like hell do they want to be whoever they already are.
When Amelia goes out on the town, she steps out of the her that still feels tired from the night before, the Amelia with empty pockets and runs in her stockings. Her new front is lipstick and perfume and a few glittery jewels rented from Nash for a few hours. Her mask is a bright sparkling laugh and a wink at anyone who looks like they want to buy her drinks for the night.
Vinny prefers the shadows to the spotlight. He hides behind a scowl, throws out every insult he’s collected until he can retreat; like a dog that doesn’t want to bite, he just growls and shows his teeth. It’s easier to never open up, then he’ll never worry about getting hurt. His mask is rude sarcasm and an apathetic glare and the self-delusion that if he makes everyone dislike him he’ll never have to care about anyone else.
Matilda’s mask is a book, held up in front of her nose. Anyone who tries to interrupt her gets a deadpan glance, and she brings the mask back up. Books are always there when you need them, set aside when you don’t, and their words can be taken exactly as you want them--much more reliable friends than people. Much easier to deal with. The exact opposite of how she is, herself.
Rolls wouldn’t believe you if you said he wore a mask. But as he stands there, teetering between the potential for wealth and fame or death, the man can’t see his own face--every move he makes is to keep up the momentum. It wouldn’t matter much if he loved his mother or hated the popular songs on the radio or decided tomorrow he wanted an extended vacation to Fiji. Whatever soul he’s supposed to have, it’s all burning to keep the engine running. Everything he could say is “Rolls Royston” is a persona, right down to his name.
Koko claims her art shows her true self. But choosing which “self” to show to the public filters her through the perception others expect, and the one she wants them to expect. The version of her who’s exhausted in the best way as she signs her latest work is the truest form she has. Everything else is salesmanship. And lately, she’s worried the advertisement is all she really is--after all, that’s who she is at every other moment, even when she’s with her friends.

Tall Drink Of Water
Summary: The reader introduces Jared to her best friends at a Fall carnival.
Pairing: Jared x Reader
Word Count: 1,306
Halloween Request: @wanderlustindreams
~
"I really want a caramel apple. Then again I could go for a fried dough." You ramble on to your boyfriend. "I should probably eat real food first. A hot dog counts as a meal. Right?"
"Y-yeah. Sure." Jared stumbles out barely acknowledging you, more engrossed in the bumper stickers on the car in front of you.
"We should probably do some of the rides first, it wouldn't be wise to do them after eating tons of junk." You think out loud, watching the distracted man next to you nod his head.
"My god. I sound like a sixty year old woman." With a huff, you dig into your handbag then pull out your favorite lip gloss to reapply it.
"Nah. I'd say fifty." Jared plasters on a strained smile, then starts adjusting his leather jacket like it's suddenly too constricting for him.
You and Jared are heading towards a local carnival in your hometown of Royston, Georgia. It's always been a fond childhood memory for you, so it will be the perfect setting to introduce your boyfriend to your two best friends. Although said boyfriend has been behaving strangely for the last couple of hours and it seems there is no end in sight.
"Baby...what's with the fidgeting?" You ask scanning Jared's body language, he clears his throat while his knuckles turn white from griping the steering wheel.
"Huh?" He flicks his hazel eyes over to you then brings his attention back to the road. "I haven't been."
Is your boyfriend serious? He has relentlessly shifted in his seat, thumped his foot on the floor mat and managed to up his hair fixation by twenty percent.
"Wanna try that again?" You suggest to him, turning sideways on the passenger side with a crooked smile.
"It’s nothing. I...I want this to go well. That's all. Is that a crime?" Jared sticks out his bottom lip, before gnawing on it mindlessly with his teeth.
"No." You chuckle and lean closer to him, pushing a few stray strands of chestnut hair behind his ear. "You just seem nervous and I want to help you feel better."
"We don't have time for that, naughty girl." Jared teases with a wink, you roll your eyes while he laughs and pulls into a parking spot.
"We're a little early." He adds softly, studying the silver Rolex on his wrist for way too long.
"Good." You slide your hand into his larger one and move it onto your lap. "So tell me what's happening in that pretty little head of yours."
Jared fights back a low growl rising from his throat, he knows there's no way in hell that you'll let this go. Your unwavering stubbornness both amuses him and drives him bonkers.
"I'm worried about Shelby and Kate liking me." He admits with a frown.
"Hello...have you met you? Of course they'll like you." You rub the back of his hand with yours. "You're extremely lovable, Padalecki."
"Oh shut up." He laughs out, finally cracking a smile before turning serious again.
"This is different, Y/N. I usually don’t care if people like me, if they do then cool but if they don’t than that's their problem. It doesn't matter to me either way.” Jared shares with you.
"Um...I'm confused."
"There's a lot riding on this." Jared points out. "These girls have been in your life forever and they are really important to you. So if they don't like me then I'm screwed. I'm pretty sure you'd pick your two best friends over my dorky ass."
"I see what yo..."
"And you're very important to me, sweetheart. You know that." He declares with a sigh. "So yeah no fucking pressure at all."
You grin warmly, "Just be your charming, goofy self and they will love you. I promise. I'm not worried about it so you shouldn't be either, babe."
"If you say so." He says making you nod at him.
You swing open your door then climb out of the blue SUV with Jared following your lead, "I'm surprised you don't have your signature beanie on."
"I wasn't sure if it was ok." He pauses with a shrug of his strong shoulders.
"I’m not your mother." You snort. "I don't care what you wear, buddy."
"I don't know. This is all very stressful." Jared mumbles retrieving his black beanie from the backseat and slipping it onto the top of his head.
"I get that you want to make a good first impression, honey. And I appreciate it but you don't have to change yourself to do that. Ok?"
"Ok..."
"You look beautiful!" You pat the top of his warm head, then kiss his cheek before landing on his lips.
"You're so weird. Cute but weird." Jared laces his fingers with yours. You two begin walking and the excitement is starting to bubble up once you see all of the carnival lights.
The bustling crowd draws you in and you rush to get over there, your boyfriend laughs trying to catch up as you tug his arm. The smile you give him once you both finally reach the entrance makes his heart swell.
Jared’s emotions wash over him because he feels like the luckiest guy in the world. He doesn’t understand how he scored such an incredible girl but he knows that he'll never let you go.
“There they are!” You gesture to your childhood best friends Shelby and Kate, they’re checking out the professional carved pumpkins displayed everywhere.

“Y/N!” Kate immediately pulls you in for a big hug, Shelby now joining in with her arms wrapped around the two of you. After a few seconds, it breaks apart and you step back near your boyfriend
“Guys...this is Jared.” You beam rocking on your heels as you grab onto his bicep.
“Well aren’t you a tall drink of water.” Shelby purrs at Jared. His eyes widen in shock and it makes you burst out laughing.
“Don’t mind her.” Kate cuts in. “Shelby doesn’t have a filter. You’ll get used to it. I’m Kate.”
“Nice to meet you. Y/N has told me a lot about you both.”Jared replies with a friendly hug for each of your best friends. He starts to relax a bit, realizing that he definitely overreacted about this introduction. But his train of thought is disrupted when a stern voice catches his attention.
"So do you think you're good enough for our friend?" Shelby deadpans with an impressive bitch face.
"Uh..." His mouth hangs open before his pleading eyes lock with yours.
"Kidding!" Your friend erupts into giggles. "You already passed the test, man. Don't worry."
"I did?" Jared cocks his head at the three women smiling wide, he then adjusts his beanie as if it will make things clearer for him.
"Yup." Kate speaks up with a smirk. "Not a lot of guys meet us ya know. Only the ones that Y/N really likes and wants to get serious with."
"Well that's good news." Jared chuckles letting out a much needed sigh of relief, he then unzips his jacket so he can finally breathe.
"Yeah I'm a little picky so..." You trail off hugging his side, a bright shade of pink now appearing on your cheeks.
"Extremely picky!" Shelby corrects you with a roll of her eyes. "We'll let you two kids be all lovely dovey for a few minutes."
"Yeah we'll go get a snack." Kate chimes in with Shelby in tow, both girls already striding in the opposite direction
Jared waves at them before griping your hips and pressing you flush against him, "You could've told me that, little girl." He whispers into your ear.
"I like to keep you on your toes, Padalecki." You chuckle at him.

all of the above for office glam (i wanna compare notes 👀)
Oh my Lord haha, here we go!!
who hogs the duvet? ~ I think vince would be more likely to do this, he doesn’t do it on purpose, he just subconsciously wants to be warm and snug!
who texts/rings to check how their day is going? ~ they both do this (especially when separated) but vince definitely texts a lot more e.g when ross is at work and vince texts him about the most mundane shit just to stay in contact throughout the day💓
who’s the most creative when it comes to gifts? ~ hmm 🤔 I’d surprisingly say this was ross? He’d do anything to make sure that vince has the best he can offer, so he spends months in advance when debating what he should get for vince on special occasions.
who gets up first in the morning? ~ at the very beginning of the relationship it would be vince, making sure he looks perfect for when ross wakes up (our insecure vince hc😓👀) but after ross catches him doing this and vince breaks down and ross ultimately comforts him, it then changes to ross when he either gets up for work or gets up earlier in order to make a nice breakfast for himself and vince☺️
who suggests new things in bed? ~ both of them when they’re comfy within the relationship, however at the start ross was a bit less open with his kinks because he isn’t used to sharing such intimate info with other people, but when he and vince realise that what they’re into is so similar ross wastes no time in suggesting new naughty things and vince is v excited and v pleased!!
who cries at movies? ~ Vince. Ross sometimes is emotionally swayed but he’s never been one to cry at movies.
who gives unprompted massages? ~ ross!! As said before, he adores being able to spoil vince and vince feels like he’s the centre of ross’ world (which he deffo is☺️)
who fusses over the other when they’re sick? ~ both of them, they’re quite protective over each other, even if they have different ways of showing it
who gets jealous easiest? ~ they both do get jealous from time to time but ross is definitely the most frequent, due to how much attention vince gets
who has the most embarrassing taste in music? ~ ross! He doesn’t have much of a taste in music before vince (just listens to whatever’s on the radio) however ross has always been pretty into Madonna, which he’s always been embarrassed over (e.g his step dad telling him that boys don’t listen to Madonna, very harmful) however vince helps him overcome this embarrassment
who collects something unusual? ~ as stated before ross collects horror memorabilia. (Much like Reece!)
who takes the longest to get ready? ~ we all know it’s vince😅
who is the most tidy and organised? ~ definitely ross!!
who gets most excited about the holidays? ~ vince, he gets giddy like a little kid. Ross enjoys seeing vince like this.
who is the big spoon/little spoons? ~ this switches depending on mood and whatever the other is feeling, however the default is big spoon ross/little spoon vince, like the night they first cuddled in ross’ hotel room💝
who gets most competitive when playing games and/or sports? ~ vince definitely has a competitive streak but ross really does put 100% of his effort into winning haha.
who starts the most arguments? ~ I think this is ross, especially when he’s had a bad day, or he’s been drinking 😓

Freudian Slip
Crack fic. What happens when @commanderweir‘s Section Commander Kader ends up on Lizzie’s Avenger way way out of time. Based on Section Commander Kader’s character pool bio, which reads: “An incident involving a Dimensional Gate spat the future Section Commander back in time. He’s desperate to find a way home. [SYSTEM DICTATION, CMDR. Weir: “Bullshit he is. If I made this man a Commander, I’ll eat Rabbit’s hat.]”
There was a certain amount of bullshit she was used to, for want of a better term.
Aliens. Dimension hopping. One of her best friends secretly being an alien. She had come to accept these things as normal.
What was not normal was having not one, but two Sally Roystons, and one handsome, very apologetic stranger in her quarters.
She drew in a breath. “Royston, for want of a more diplomatic way to ask this: what the fuck?”
Royston had the decency to look bashful, wringing her hands. “Uh, these two are from an … alternate timeline? But I mean, I guess alternate’s not entirely accurate. It’s later than ours. But, it is also alternate because …” she gestured. “Anyway. He’s an XCOM Section Commander. Which. Uh. Seems incongruous because he’s barely older than I am and he’s working for Uncle Will, but I digress. He’s got identification. She’s me, time hopped and raised by Will, and now going to have to explain to him how she blew her cover. Because that’s going to be a fun discussion.”
The other Sally’s cheeks reddened.
Lizzie squeezed her eyes shut. “Why are they here?”
“Dimension gate incident for him. And then other me went to fix it.”
The older woman buried her face in her hands. “Fine. Just. Clean it up.”
“What’re you gonna do?”
“You really think Weir’s not hearing about this?”
Royston chewed on her lip. “Fair.”
--
She kept to the edge of the room, the meeting already tense. The parties assembled were somewhat accustomed to interruptions, but she was in no mood to add to the already contentious atmosphere.
Fed up, Weir dismissed them all, then looked up at her, exasperated.
“I’m not going to make your day better,” she warned.
He threw up his hands. “You’re not the only one.”
“Do you know what your daughter did?”
It was only after he nearly choked on his drink that she realized her mistake.

If This Was A Movie, V
// While Effie Trinket is Hollywood’s darling and all her dreams seem to be finally coming true, Haymitch Abernathy is drinking himself into an early grave and shuts the world out completely. However, Plutarch Heavensbee decides it’s time for his comeback. The two main stars can’t stand each other and tension builds up soon, but as they dive in deep into this project, somewhere between shooting love scenes, fighting on-set, fighting off-set, opening up hesitantly and helping their younger colleagues deal with everything this world brings, they grow closer and closer, until one day they realize they’re not pretending anymore. | Hayffie Actors AU //
“A HELPING HAND”
i.
NOW
The camera flashes were blinding. The rush was overwhelming. The reflectors were too bright and the place was too crowded. It was all extremes and there was no time to take a break from them when she stopped before the entrance to the red carpet area and took a deep breath as if she was the nineteen-year-old girl attending her first premiere again.
She was in the movie for exactly three minutes and forty-seven seconds back then and everybody looked at it like it was the greatest achievement Effie could get in her life, but it wasn’t enough for her. It wasn’t what she knew she could reach, and it definitely wasn’t all she would get. She was too determined than to settle with supporting roles and living her life out on Broadway. She wanted the world to lie at her feet. She wanted men to lust after her and she wanted women to strive to be her. She wanted the cameras, she wanted the leading roles, she wanted this shiny red Dior gown and those skyscraper Dior heels and her name on the list of nominees.
She had it, all of it, and she still didn’t feel any pride or happiness or even satisfaction, because the only person she wanted to share this with wasn’t here.
“Are you even coming to the party later?” Johanna asked and sleeked her electric blue long-sleeved velvet dress that was tight in all the right places and made the usually street-style oriented young woman look like a goddess with its long veil and diamond-decorated choker made of the same material. She measured Effie with her wide, cynical chocolate eyes and sighed, finally cracking some mercy upon her. “Have you been like this the entire time?”
“It’s just harder for me now,” Effie old her quietly. She was very well-aware of what she looked like. She looked defeated, and there was no point in hiding it in front of Johanna. The disappointment was too big to hide. “I just hoped…”
“Hope,” Johanna spat and took Effie by her arm, not exactly gently, and walked her a few steps away to make space for the other celebrities to enter the carpet. “Trinket, you’re one hell of a drama queen. He’s not here – so what?” She frowned, put her hands on her hips and jerked her head towards Katniss and Peeta who were waiting a few yards away, laughing at something on Peeta’s phone, and towards Finnick, Annie and Mags who were in a lively conversation with Plutarch. “We are here,” she hissed, “so light the fuck up. Don’t spoil it for us – besides, you deserve to enjoy this. You did your job well even without him, so you can carry on with that now.”
Effie stared at Johanna in genuine and rightful shock. “Johanna-“
“If he came, I’d gladly stick something up his coward ass, anyway, so it’s maybe better that he’s not here.” Johanna took Effie by her wrist and squeezed it tightly with a mischievous smirk. “C’mon. Let’s show him what he’s missing.”
“Johanna,” Effie cracked a genuine laughter, “thank you.”
“Don’t thank me, just stop keeping me,” the younger woman tugged at her wrist, “they’re waiting for us.”
ii.
BEFORE
April, Venice
Effie let the hot water drips trail down her soaked hair, naked spine, pearly-white arms, long lean legs and pool by her pink-painted toenails. She saw her reflection in the shower’s glass door, her mascara was running and so was her nose, because despite her best attempts, she still didn’t get rid of the rigor that had taken over her when she got out of the freezing, filthy water.
God, she was so angry. It was just genuine, hot anger, directed at no one else but Haymitch Abernathy who, if she had the opportunity, she’d gladly repeatedly hit with something into his head. There was no one she had ever felt so much whole-hearted disgust for.
He had tried. After she had ran away from the trailer, following her fit of rage, he went after her. He had tracked her down to the costume trailer where she had chosen to hide, and tried to talk to her. However, in her eyes, he was the originator of everything that could possibly go wrong, and it had only ended up in a heated fight that went on for whole long minutes and had apparently amused the hell out of everyone in earshot. He told her she was an arrogant bitch, she told him that he was just a drunken good-for-nothing and they have mutually sent each other to go screw themselves. He was the one who walked out on her this time, and she didn’t even attempt to stop him.
Why should she? He missed up big time. She had spent thirty minutes under the shower and she still felt dirty and chilled to the bone. He had ruined the entire shooting day – one day that was going to cost everyone time and money, not that there was already exactly an excess of either. It wouldn’t be nearly as bad if she knew that he was sober. But no – he had to come there with that arrogant expression on his face and a cup of some Virginia-style Irish coffee and blasted about having it all together. Sure thing.
The filming was a disaster so far.
She violently turned off the water, already sick of the tangerine-scented shower gel she had been covering her whole body in for the last half an hour, reached for her puffy white towel with her monogram that she had brought from home, wrapped herself in it and walked out of the bathroom.
While she curtained the window and started drying herself, she noticed, in the corner of her eye her phone that was lying on the chest of drawers by the window.
Of course, Effie thought of Seneca daily. Not all the time, but often enough to make her feel regretful. By the pool, where she liked it the most and where he could have been sitting next to her or where she could watch him while he was swimming; before she fell asleep, because she knew that if he could be here, he’d be falling asleep next to her, under the same blanket, breathing the same air, their bare skins brushing against each other; when she was walking around the set and thinking of how everything could have been so very different, had he still been here.
She liked Venice but she couldn’t wait for the filming to finally move to Florence, where she’d get much more shooting time. She needed to distract herself and there was no better way to do than to fully immerse herself into her job. Now, that she had nothing much to do, she was more likely to get consumed by her ever-present melancholia – and to give into her tendency to be obsessively watching what was going on back home.
The surprising answer was simple – nothing.
Olivia Royston, her publicist and long-time friend, managed to handle the past few rocky weeks gracefully and with a clear mind, something Effie was incapable of lately, too heartbroken and too worried about her career. Now, everything seemed to be settling down and though she knew that real acceptance still wasn’t in her ability at the moment, the worst was finally behind her. Getting to go away for some time was helpful and the one thing she kept in her mind was that the public’s short-term memory is very bad. They might dig out some dirt from time to time or bring it up again when enough months have passed and they were lacking their banner headlines, but nobody really cared.
Except Seneca’s fiancée, of course.
Fiona Winchester has reached out to Effie many times – after Seneca’s death, after his funeral, and after she had learned that they have already casted Haymitch into Seneca’s role and that Effie was the one to help them organize this. She has called Effie many things, starting with whore, and definitely not stopping at a hyena who was just using Seneca for his fame and was still trying to profit from his death. Effie’s publicist, her lawyers and her management were supposed to handle this, but Effie knew what it felt like to be in Fiona’s shoes – she had been with Aiden for five years, after all.
So, truth be told, she was more worried about what Fiona’s rightful anger could do to her career than the public’s fleeting opinions.
True to the credo that no news are also good news, she decided to put all her worries to rest for now and had strictly forbidden herself to try to contact Olivia. After all, if things got bad, she’d know.
She put on a baby blue sundress and a brownish cardigan and started blow-drying her hair, but stopped half-way through, put the dryer back into the holder, sprayed on some perfume, put on some mascara and blush and left her room in determination.
That determination hadn’t left her even after she realized that she had no idea where Haymitch’s room was. Running around the complex looking for him wasn’t what she was willing to do just to get to yell at him, but then she imagined slapping him and it had not only slightly improved her mood, but also reinforced her resolve. Besides, there weren’t that many places where he could be. It was either the cafeteria, the lobby, the pool, the internet café or the pool bar. Or maybe he had stayed on the set, but under no circumstances was she going back there today. It was too humiliating.
There was no trace of him in the café or the lobby, so she headed out. When she walked into the pool area, Peeta and Finnick were already there, sitting on a bench. Finnick was sitting with his back straight as a ruler, with his head up in the air and a dead serious expression on his face while Peeta was drawing something into his sketchbook and had a small mischievous smile on his cracked lips. His freckled face lit up when he looked up and saw her.
“Effie,” he said and Finnick looked over as well, “do you wanna join?”
“Thank you, Peeta, but I am actually looking for someone,“ she said, but out of courtesy walked closer nevertheless. She looked over to Peeta’s lap where he had his pencil case and a paper with the drawing. “Now that is a piece of art.”
“What?” Finnick reached for the paper and whisked it from Peeta’s hands who was trying to take it away from him with a chuckle. “I said a portrait! That’s a caricature, boy. I’m offended, you know? I’m leaving now.”
“See you,” Peeta was still laughing when Finnick got up and dramatically ran his fingers through his reddish locks.
“I’m now going to find a better company.” He turned to Effie and did something like a curtsy. “Not that there’s better company than you, but here my personal portraitist is incapable of doing his job, so I have to act aggrieved now. See you at lunch.”
He left them there alone, disappearing into the cafeteria where he headed straight to the dessert section where he winked at a ginger girl in the hotel’s white uniform.
“Sissy,” Peeta laughed and raised the sketchbook. “I might sometimes come draw here. It’s quiet. It seems like we’re the only guests in this whole place.”
“I am actually fine with that,” Effie admitted and watched him open the sketchbook and a glimpse of a few drawing and doodles have caught her attention. “Would you mind if I had a look?”
Peeta’s ears and cheeks turned crimson. “I don’t know, I mean- I don’t mind, but… it’s nothing much, really.”
“I’m sure you are very talented,” she said when he gave the notebook to her.
The very first drawing was a sketch of a sculpture by a rosebush. It wasn’t colored, but the shading was brilliant, and it had an atmosphere and came across pretty realistic. In the right corner beneath it was Peeta’s humble signature. The next few pages were similar scenes, and then there was an unfinished picture of the St. Mark’s Basilica and the St. Mark’s Square. Peeta had a significant sense of detail – the people in the streets, the ornamentation of the church, the atmosphere. He bothered to draw each face and each ice cream con and every old cobble.
“What are you saying, they are great,” Effie argued genuinely and handed it back. “I am being serious, this must have taken you so much time and effort.”
“Thanks, but not really,” he replied, still blushing badly, “it kind of just finishes itself. It’s a relax.” He paused and then he seemed like he wanted to add something, but Effie’s attention was distracted by a sight that deeply concerned her. Peeta’s eyes followed her gaze through one of the many huge French windows that were the partition between the pool’s sitting area and the inside bar. “Is that-“
“Yes,” she gritted through her teeth.
“He doesn’t look well.”
“That’s nothing against what’s going to happen to him once I get him.” Effie was up within milliseconds and already on her way to the bar with Peeta in tow.
The bar was empty, with no one but Haymitch sitting at one of the stools, not exactly stably, with three empty whiskey glasses surrounding the fourth, full one, and judging by his state, she could tell that it wasn’t only three whiskeys that were running through his veins now. One look at the abashed bartender, a short dark-haired woman with tattoos covering her neck and arms, and she knew.
“It’s okay,” she told the bartender quietly and approached Haymitch from behind, who was saying something that was hardly eligible and to be honest, Effie felt like she didn’t necessarily need to know. She hit his back and didn’t even bother to make it gentle. “Seriously?”
He turned around violently, spilling the whiskey in the process. His face gave away the fact that he was hardly keeping it together, and when he saw Effie and Peeta, his expression shifted towards annoyed. “Hey, Trinkeeeet… came for a drink?” He turned to the bartender. “Two more!”
“Ignore him,” Effie said sharply and gripped Haymitch by his biceps while looking over her shoulder. “Peeta, have you got any money here? He’ll give it back to you later…”
“I wrote it on his room,” the bartender informed them in a strong Italian accent, shaking her head. “It’s eleven in the morning. Is he okay?”
“He won’t be soon,” Effie promised her. “Thank you.”
Together, her and Peeta threw Haymitch’s arms over their shoulders and went on their journey to the elevators, hoping no one was going to see this mess.
“Trinket,” Haymitch put his face way too close to her own, his lips nearly touching her ear which prompted a shiver down her spine, his breath smelling like liquor and held-back vomit, “let’s have a drink… Plut- Plutarch wants us to be friends… are we friends Trinket?”
“I’m going to kill you,” she answered his question simply.
“Haymitch, are you alright?” Peeta asked when the older man let out an ugly drunken hiccup. “Are you getting sick?”
“Yeah, this whole time,” Haymitch’s legs entangled and he temporarily lost his balance, nearly taking both Effie and Peeta with him, hadn’t it been for Peeta’s strong arms holding him up. “I’m sick of everything… I’m sick of this all… and of you, Trinket…“
“Yes, and you are an absolute darling, aren’t you,” she fired back absent-mindedly, looking over the lobby. No one, but the receptionist was there – she gave them a curious look, but didn’t say anything. The elevator took insanely long to come – way too long, because Haymitch obviously was getting pretty sick.
“I’m gonna… I’m gonna-“
“No!” both of them let out, and the elevator came just in time – they got in, smashed the button with the third floor, the door closed and Haymitch’s stomach did some akin to a backflip. The next second, its content was all over Effie’s yellow dress.
“YOU IDIOT-“
“Effie-“ Peeta’s fingers touched her arm as he reached out to her over Haymitch’s shoulders in a calming gesture.
“I can’t believe this,” she lashed out, pushing Haymitch away just when the door opened. To their great relief, this hall was empty as well. Peeta was definitely right about the place being very calm. “I’m going to murder him. Which room is it?”
“I don’t know,” Peeta turned to Haymitch. “Which room?”
“I don’t know…” he hiccupped again, gripping their shoulders tightly. “I think… I don’t know… I’ve gotta-“
“It should be on the card,” Effie said and reached into the pocket of Haymitch’s jeans.
“You didn’t even let me buy you a drink and you’re sticking your hand in my pants?”
Effie was about to spat something in return, but she just got the card and pulled it out. “Twenty-four.”
They stumbled with their drunken co-star a few doors back and clumsily put the card into the code reader. Together, all three got into the room and Effie let Peeta lead Haymitch directly into the en-suited bathroom form which she could hear the typical sounds following a heavy drinking and shut the door behind her.
She took a defeated look at her dress. She smelled like liquor, vomit and the expensive clothes were ruined for good – she certainly wasn’t keeping them after this. His room was messy, she had expected that, but it was also dirty and she was disgusted by it, almost as much as by what he had just done to her dress. There was a pool of whiskey and shards of a broken bottle by his bed, which was probably what had lead him into the bar. After silently cursing him, she entered the bathroom to see Peeta helping Haymitch out of his dirty clothes covered in whiskey and vomit stains.
“Is he going to be okay?”
“Yeah, sure.” Peeta threw Haymitch’s shirt into the sink and turned on the water in the shower. “You can go put yourself together, I can manage it here.”
Effie pouted at the prospect. “Are you sure? I shouldn’t leave you here like this…”
“If there’s a problem, I’ll let you know,” Peeta promised. “I’ll stay with him for a while. He shouldn’t be alone. I’ll order him some coffee and something light to eat. It’s going to be alright.”
“Fine,” she agreed finally, fully aware that it didn’t take that much to persuade her and she wasn’t even feeling too bad about it. She walked over to Peeta to caress his arm gratefully and bowed down to Haymitch who was mumbling something she couldn’t properly make out. Just as she was about to tell him that he was going to regret this tomorrow day, he threw up again. “Okay,” she stood up straight and adjusted her clothes, quite uselessly, considering their state. “Thank you so much, Peeta. I’ll come check on you two once I… get rid of this,” she waved at the horribly smelling stains on her dress and left the bathroom.
Once she closed the door behind her, she faced Plutarch.
“Effie-“ he eyed her up and down questioningly, taking in the stains on her dress and the angry flush on her cheeks. “What happened? Isn’t that Haymitch’s room?”
“Yes, he…” she hesitated for a second, “he got sick. Peeta is there with him.”
She could see the suspicion of the worst dancing across his features, so she had chosen to elaborate. “He ate something bad. He’s going to be okay, just minor food poisoning, I’d say.”
“Oh God…” Plutarch sighed heavily and rubbed his temple. “Is he going to be okay? I need him to be fine, we’ve got two more scenes to do here…”
“He’ll be perfectly fine by tomorrow,” Effie reassured him promptly, “trust me, it’s nothing serious. He just needs to get it all out and rest. Peeta said he’ll tell me how he’s doing.”
“Where did you two even disappear?” He asked angrily. “I was just looking for you. I thought you would both come back once you put yourselves together, and then Cressida comes and says that you have both decided to just-“
“I’m so sorry, Plutarch,” she interrupted him sternly, “but I can’t work with him. It’s just beyond me right now-“
“Effie, you are an actress,” he hissed. “For the love of God. You don’t have to like each other, though I’d prefer it if you did. But just do your job. Get over your egos. I’m sorry about what happened this morning, but listen to this – I don’t care what is going on between you two, I don’t care if you show up drunk or sober, I don’t care if your mothers died, I don’t care if-“ he inhaled sharply when he realized he was raising his voice a little too much. “Whatever happens, you two are going to be on the set tomorrow morning, exactly at eight, ready to do what you have promised me to do. Are we clear?”
Effie felt the blush appearing on her chest and neck, but decided to keep decorum. “Very well,” she said quietly, “I will make sure of that.”
“Okay. I’ll come take a look at him later.” He measured Effie with one more doubtful look. “I just hope it wasn’t the lobsters.” With that, he turned around to disappear in the elevator.
iii.
Haymitch hadn’t appeared during dinner, which wasn’t surprising, and when Effie asked Peeta, he said that he was still asleep. Peeta took Haymitch’s card with the words that he didn’t need it right now anyway and went to check on him every two hours. Effie went with him after dinner, in a clean salmon dress, with a glass of water, a bowl of chicken soup she had ordered to her room, and a bottle of Advil.
He was lying on his stomach, in a stained white t-shirt and grey sweatpants, and these clothes were drained with sweat. His facial muscles were jerking and he was shaking in his sleep. When she carefully placed the back of her hand on his forehead, she grew worried. “I think he has a fever. Maybe we should call someone.”
“Wait,” Peeta said and ran out, leaving the door cracked open. From the hall, Effie could hear a knocking and quiet voices.
While she waited, she watched the man in the bed. He was repelling and the mere look at him made her so angry. This was exactly what she was so afraid would happen. This was what they could have expected to happen. She’d gladly slap him all over his face and she just wanted him to get better so she could accomplish that.
“We’re back,” Peeta announced when he rushed back into the room with Katniss at his feet. She had her hair in a loose side braid and her grumpy face and a phone in her hand were clear indicators that taking care of Haymitch Abernathy wasn’t what she had planned to do this evening. “Katniss’ mum is a nurse. She knows what to do.”
“Actually, I don’t. I’m not a nurse,” the girl replied moodily, setting her grey eyes on the sleeping Haymitch. “What happened?”
Effie sighed. “He got drunk. We don’t know how much he had, but I don’t think it’s normal to sleep for so long, and he looks like he has a fever, so…”
With a resigned grunt, Katniss walked over to him, pressed her hand against his forehead like Effie previously did, put her palm on his back to feel his fitful breathing and looked over to them. “How much does he drink?”
Neither of them knew the answer. “He has problems with this, we all know that,” Peeta said, “he was supposed to get somewhat sober before coming here.”
“But he drank today,” Effie added, rage taking over her once more when she remembered that day.
“It could be withdrawals, but I’m not sure.” Katniss got up and started typing something on her phone. “Maybe he knew he was falling into it so he went to get something to drink and had too much. He should be fine, but I’ll ask mum.”
“I’ll tell Chaff,” Effie decided. “Thank you, Katniss. Maybe we should leave him be for now. We’ll see in the morning.”
Katniss nodded without much concern and put the phone into the pocket of her corduroy brown pants, already on the leave. “Someone should check on him before going to bed.”
"Thanks,” Peeta said, but Katniss was on her way out of the door and didn’t pay any attention to his gratitude. “And sorry for bothering.”
Effie folded her arms over her chest and pouted. “Is everyone from the South like this?”
“I’m not,” Peeta chuckled lightly. “I’ll check on him before I’ll go to sleep and if he’s not better tomorrow morning, we’ll tell Plutarch what happened and will take him to the hospital or something.”
“I’ll come take a look at him, too,” Effie said defeatistly, uncomfortable with the thought of letting the boy look after this absolutely unpredictable man on his own. “Just knock on my door when you’re going.”
The whole filming was, indeed, already a disaster.
iv.
The night was ink dark, soaked with the smell of drying rain on the concrete and filled with wet fog, leaving petite drops of water on the windshield, rearview mirror and the battered bodywork. The wipers were still on, running frantically from one side to the other and his eyes followed them. He couldn’t remember how to turn them off.
He saw the front lights in his peripheral vision, but his reactions were too slow. The rough leather of the steering wheel felt slippery beneath his palms, even though they were sweaty, and the highway in front of him was, he could swear, winding, but, and he was almost sure of that, there weren’t supposed to be any corners or curves.
But there was someone else, someone who was touching his face, his neck, who was whispering something to him, and they somehow didn’t fit into that narrative, but they weren’t changing it, either. This narrative always led to the same ending.
The second car was way too close but his body wasn’t collaborating with his brain’s confused orders. He originally wanted to press the brake but it was too late; so he just pulled the steering wheel, but there was a crash nevertheless.
The last thing he heard was the crunch of tires, someone’s screams and a deafening blast; the last thing he felt was the gravity-defeating force that launched him through the windshield.
v.
His whole body jerked and his eyes shot open. His vision was blurry, but he located a ceramic bowl and a glass of water on his nightstand. The windows were cracked open and there was a clean shirt for him on the chair beside the bed. The room smelled like disinfection and flowers. It took him a few seconds to realize that he wasn’t in Richmond and that he wasn’t in a hospital, either, and that there were no fresh flowers. The smell was vaguely familiar, though.

The Origin of Tapas Food -
The Origins:
What we now call "tapas" has its roots in the Spanish word "tapar," meaning "to cover." The practice of covering one's drink with a slice of bread or cured gammon to keep flies at bay has its roots in a culinary custom that goes back several centuries in Spain. From its humble beginnings, the art of tapas has grown into a complex repertory of appetisers and snacks, with each region of Spain contributing its own special flavour.
Importance in Culture:
In Spain, tapas is more than simply a meal; it's a way of life. As part of the "ir de tapas" (going out for tapas) tradition, people would visit different bars and have a drink and a small dish at each stop. This transforms tapas from a mere meal into a way of life that promotes social contact, conversation, and companionship.
Diversity and New Ideas:
Tapas are little appetisers served with cheese and olives in Spain. More complex tapas include dishes like 'patatas bravas' (hot potatoes) and 'gambas al ajillo' (garlic shrimp). Tapas are delicious because they are versatile; they can satisfy any taste. As a result of chefs' openness to trying new things, the tapas tradition is always developing.

Last night I had a dream I was still friends with Emily and I woke up this morning to thinking, do I ask too much out of friendship or are my expectations too high, my initial thought was yes. That’s why I kept shouting at her so rage-fully and why it ended with me acting like a completely horrible version of myself.
But then I really thought about it and I’m in no way excusing what I did because I’ll always be disgusted with myself for that and there is nothing that can justify it. But putting that incident aside I really do think our friendship had been doomed for a good year prior and prior to that I think i asked for too much, I was just asking the wrong person.
Emily and I got along really well, she felt like my sister but our versions of friendship and what we need out of it are different and that why I was doomed. The last year we kept having little argument and i always seem felt like it was my fault because I was the on getting angry and shouting but my reasons for getting angry were justified, maybe I could have handled it a little calmer but I still think I had every right to be angry.
I’ll start with Emily’s birthday, technically I don’t blame either of us for that. I blame Kerry and my over trust that she would use her words to tell people where I had gone. But when we finally found each other that night everyone was so mad at me for leaving and no one would listen to my side of the story. So I started to shout to be heard. And he’s the thing about that group of friends, they put the way you react over why you are reacting that way. So it didn’t matter that I had told Kerry I had gone to the toilet, it didn’t matter that I had given her all of my things including my phone, ID and bank card and told her id be right back, it only mattered that I couldn’t find them so assumed they’d gone to planet, like we said we were going to and that I got angry that I was suddenly the bad guy. I was then made to feel like I was crazy and that I had to take time away and fix myself, yes that was my decision but none of them made me fell like I could just carry on like normal when in actual fact I was taking time away because I was still so mad that I had somehow been the bad guy.
Then there was my birthday, Emily and Leah forgot. I expected Leah to forget because she’s never around and I she’s not very good at getting in contact but I didn’t expect Emily to forget because she’s known me since we were four years old, in which we’d been friends in primary school and 6 years after school as well. The day after they both apologised and I accepted at first but then i realised I was till made and thought, instead of keeping to myself for, I’ll share how I feel. You know the healthy thing to do but I was greeted with angry because I didn’t say it originally and I hadn’t been mad at Leah. I explained that it wasn’t out of character for Leah to forget, she had been away for three year and we’d barley spoken in that time. She was meant to be my best friend who I see every week so it hurt a little more, I then explained that this triggered some things in me relating to having abandonment and rejection issues which come from the very real abandonment of my dad and then the multiple rejections from every male in my life after that. Her response was, she has her own issues to worry about, I was expecting too much and I wasn’t her problem. That literally broke my heart. Another rejection. This very obvious gaslighting that I didn’t really know was gaslighting at the time made me feel like I was asking too much and I put my feeling aside and her first because she has diagnosed depression and I don’t. Of course download that year came up and how I had ignored that she was depressed and has left her to watch wrestling, when in reality, how was I supposed to know she was feeling depressed, I was in my tent with it zipped just as much, of not more than she was and I remember very clearly telling her and Royston to follow me and they both just stood there, I then reach the entrance and called them over again and saved them two seat, in which Royston came and Emily didn’t but I said I’d agree to disagree because I didn’t want to get into more arguments.
Fast forward to the end of August and Emily and Sharon decided to go on a night out and not invite me to pre drinks which I know sounds like a really petty thing to get made about but what not even a month prior I had told her about my abandonment and rejection issues, I think it was pretty insensitive. Why invite me at all if you are going to exclude me. I remember her saying it just didn’t cross her mind, which in it itself was part of the problem, if true. I told her when has that ever happened. When have we ever done that. She said I did it the week before or something but I was my boyfriend at the time. Just like when she was with her boyfriend she’s meet us there too. We’d never done it when it was just us and it just looked malicious. If I was intentional then, yes it was mean and thoughtless if it did t cross her mind that still just as bad because it shows a lack of consideration for what I had told her less than a month earlier and how much that actually meant to her. I again, wrongfully got very hrwated because she was trying to justify it, I didn’t think it was worth justifying because it was wrong and I told her she was a bitch and a bad friend which at the time i very much meant, I later regretted for upsetting her so much that she left and now looking back I kinda think i true again.
I’m that was the last argument, three arguments in two months but they were all big, for us anyway and I think it showed a lot of our true colours. My inability to control my temper and her lack of care for someone who is meant to be there best friend and how she’s manipulative she can be. I don’t think she intentionally was manipulative or show a lack of care, I just think that who she is and she doesn’t even realise she’s doing it.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying she a bad person or that she always this horrible friend with lack of empathy because she’s not, I was just about to write out all the things that was but the only one i could think of was funny. She can be caring when it suits her but this is where our friendship styles differ because I literally dropped everything for her anytime she needed something but it was never the same and yes, she never asked me to do that so I shouldn’t expect that but I do. I expect my friends to realise what I do and do it in return. Is that selfish and self serving, maybe but that’s just how I feel about it.
And on top of all that there was the fact that she wanted to be friend with Liam after everything he’d done to me. The fact that she never asked me how I was coping with all that stuff not once. I always had to bring it up. She always just thought I was being dramatic.
I keep saying it’s my fault that I didn’t say anything but I actually did and she continued this pattern of behaviour. I honestly think it was just a matter of time before our friendship imploded. I’m not saying I’m innocent, I definitely did things wrong as well and that’s also part of the problem. We did too many things to each that built up.
I just handled it the completely wrong way. The scariest part is I have 0 memory of if. It’s like I completely black out and that’s never happened to me before. I’ve learned that the interaction with Bonnie and jovis dad triggered me. I need to work on controlling my emotions. I was unaware that I could be triggered like that and that could cause a black out but now I know and I can’t work on it.
I of course feel guilt every day for what I did and I believe I genuinely and honestly apologised to her and now I just have to work on forgiving myself where I need to be forgiven and accepting when I actually wasn’t in the wrong then moving on.
I’m in anew chapter of my life and I intend to be outgoing and experience new things that I would stop myself doing before

A FTSE 100 dividend stock I’ve bought and will hold for decades
The brilliant blue-chip I’m discussing here is one which I’ve been happy to spend my own cash on: Unilever (LSE: ULVR).
Since its formation 90 years ago through the union of Britain’s Lever Brothers and Dutch spread manufacturer Margarine Unie, this FTSE 100 firm has gone from strength to strength, moving beyond its continental borders through a mixture of acquisitions and good old-fashioned organic expansion.
A staggering sales record
Right now, Unilever has a product range encompassing more than 400 brands which are used by a jaw-dropping 2.5bn people across the globe EVERY DAY. The key to this popularity? The wide variety of product ranges in which it operates, from ice cream and shower gel, through to bleach and laundry detergent, and the intense pulling power of these brands.
Kantar Worldpanel’s latest ‘Brand Footprint’ chronicling the world’s most-demanded labels illustrated perfectly the beloved nature of the Footsie firm’s labels. Of the 17 fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) brands which are bought 1bn times or more each year, Unilever is proprietor to six. And its Lifebuoy soaps, Sunsilk shampoos, and Knorr food flavourings all sit inside the top 10 most popular brands on this list.
Another healthy acquisition
The enduring appeal of Unilever’s labels over the years then should give you the confidence to buy the FTSE 100 business in expectation of strong and sustained earnings (and consequently dividend) growth many years into the future.
If you’re not convinced though, there’s another particular reason why I’m excited by its profits outlook in the near-term and beyond. It’s the company’s rising might in the consumer health category, an arena which is growing at a rapid pace because of growing health awareness in emerging markets and rising spending power in these regions.
Back in December, Unilever bought out GlaxosmithKline’s health food drinks portfolio, comprising the likes of Horlicks and Boost, in India and a swathe of other fast-growing Asian countries. These products generated cumulative turnover of €550m last year, and demographic changes in these regions should keep sales pounding higher (Horlicks has grown at a double-digit rate over the past decade and a half).
A lifeboat in tough times
Now no-one is pretending that the trading environment won’t be tough for the consumer goods manufacturers in 2019, and possibly beyond. Both Unilever and rival Reckitt Benckiser have recently bemoaned the “challenging” market conditions that are impacting trade at the present time.
It’s reassuring then that despite these travails the City still expects the aforementioned strength of Unilever’s brands to continue delivering chunky earnings growth (by 9% in 2019 and 11% next year, more specifically).
And so this resilient hero is expected to continue on its path of raising dividends too, resulting in chubby yields of 3.4% and 3.7% for this year and next. If you’re searching for safe-havens that should deliver knockout shareholder returns in the years ahead, I believe that this big-cap is one of the best to buy right now.

Unblocking a Blocked Drain Adelaide
Block drain Adelaide are one of the most annoying events that can happen to you when you are at home. There are various reasons why you would be facing this problem. The most common causes of these blockages included
Foreign objects and debris. Foreign objects that find their way to your drainage may chock your drainage and cause a blocked drain Brisbane. These objects are usually the objects that are used during cleaning or with water. Soaps, hair, fats, and food are the most common objects that usually cause a blocked drain Adelaide.
Broken pipes can cause a blocked drain Adelaide.
Your drainage may be blocked because the pipes that channel the water are broken. Broken pipes allow foreign objects that are within the path of the pipe to find their way into the drainage system. Once they are within the system, they prevent the flow of water resulting in a blocked drain Adelaide.
Water flow related issues can cause a blocked drain Adelaide.
Blockage because of water flow issues are usually as a result of poor installation. If the pipe is such that it requires the flow to go uphill or flow in a levelled ground without external pressure, chances of blockages are high.
How to tell where the problem lies of your blocked drain Adelaide.
If the blockage is in one sink or toilet, then the problem is probably with the flow channel of the toilet before it reaches the house drainage system. If more than one sink has a slow flow or are blocked, then you need to do an inspection on your home pipe work. The problem may be within the house or outside. Look for a square or round plate that accesses the drainage outside your home and check if there is a flow. If the whole neighborhood is complaining while your whole drainage system is blocked, then the problem is probably with the main drainage system of your neighborhood.
How to unblock a blocked drain Adelaide
If the blockage is within your house, there are many options that you may use to solve the problem. They include:
Plunger
Grab a toilet plunger and suck water off the blocked sinks or toilets. Fill the sink or the toilet until it is almost full then pump the outlet using the plunger. This way, your will suck the debris or particles that have blocked the system and allow the drainage to continue flowing.
Use Pepsi or Coke
These drinks are good at removing clogs because they dissolve the calcium that may be causing the clog. Grab two litres of any of the mentioned drinks at their room temperature, pour it down the drain, and let the bubble fizz out. One hour later, armed with hot water, rinse the system. You may use baking soda and vinegar instead of the drinks. If this fails it is best to call a plumber Adelaide to unblock your blocked drain Adelaide.
If you have an issue with a blocked drain Adelaide or hot water system Adelaide, then you need a 24-hour plumber Adelaide or an emergency plumber Adelaide to service you. EHI Awards recognise global digital exemplars Four global digital exemplar trusts among the 49 shortlisted entries for the only awards dedicated to healthcare IT, which are being co-located with the EHI Live conference and exhibition for the first time
London: Four NHS foundation trusts are in the running for a new award to recognise the best global digital exemplar of the year.
Cambridge University Hospitals, Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals, Oxford University Hospitals, and Royal Berkshire NHS foundation trusts have been shortlisted in the new category of the EHI Awards 2017.
Teams from the four organisations will now attend a judging day on 30 October. In total, 49 individuals and organisations have been shortlisted in ten categories of this year’s awards, which are being co-located with the EHI Live conference and exhibition for the first time.
The awards will be presented on the first day of EHI Live 2017, which takes place at the NEC in Birmingham on 31 October and 1 November, with the presentation followed by a celebration drinks reception.
Lead judge Jonathan Wallace, Professor of Innovation at the School of Computing at Ulster University, said: “The EHI Awards 2017 are the only awards dedicated to healthcare IT. The EHI Awards have always attracted a strong set of entries reflecting the latest developments in health and care technology, and this year has been no exception.
“The judges have already enjoyed learning about some of the great projects that are going on across the UK to improve the efficiency and safety of healthcare, and to support frontline staff and patients. We now look forward to meeting the shortlisted entrants; and to seeing the winners presented with their awards at one of the highlights of this year’s EHI Live.”
The global digital exemplars programme was set up by NHS England following a review of NHS IT by US expert Professor Robert Wachter. Sixteen acute trusts and seven mental health trusts were announced as global digital exemplars last year, and eighteen acute trusts were named as ‘fast followers’ earlier this month.
The global digital exemplars and their fast followers will deploy the very latest IT themselves and develop a blueprint for further trusts to follow.
Cambridge University Hospitals, Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals and Oxford University Hospitals NHS foundation trusts are all global digital exemplars. Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is Oxford’s fast follower, and entered the awards for its work on a cardiology system.
The other categories in this year’s awards are: chief clinical information officer of the year, chief information officer of the year, healthcare industry leader (a people’s choice award), best trust or health board of the year, best system or initiative adoption or roll-out, best mental health initiative, best nursing technology, best app for clinicians, and best app for patients and carers.
Five individuals, teams or projects have been shortlisted in each category. EHI Live is the UK’s leading event for healthcare IT, and will celebrate its tenth edition by incorporating the awards for the first time, to help celebrate success in the industry. Bottled Beers, Ciders:
Glass bottles are used for storing bottled brews and ciders. The tight caps protect the contents. Beverages in bottles can be found on restaurant and bar menus and in grocery store aisles.
Beer and cider in cans
Beverages that come in cans are packaged in aluminium containers. Beer and cider cans provide superior protection from light and oxygen, two elements that can diminish their quality.
Production Process-
Beers and Ciders on Tap:
Kegs are a common container for draught beverages because of their mass production. They are typically less processed than their bottled equivalents and frequently remain unpasteurized. A more natural and genuine taste may come from this.
Beers and Ciders in Bottles:
Beverages in bottles undergo pasteurization, a heating process that destroys harmful bacteria and yeast. This method can be used to preserve food for longer periods, but it may also affect the taste.
Flavor and Freshness-
Beers and Ciders on Tap:
The flavour of draught beverages may be brighter and more refreshing because they're poured straight from the keg. Reduced exposure to light and air, as well as the lack of pasteurization, can result in a richer flavour profile.
Beers and Ciders in Bottles:
The pasteurization procedure often gives bottled drinks a distinct flavour from their draught equivalents. Nonetheless, they are easily accessible and can provide a reliable flavour profile.
Effects on the Environment -
Beers and Ciders on Tap:
Waste is reduced by serving beverages from a tap rather than from bottles or cans. Kegs can be used more than once, cutting down on waste and saving the planet.
Beers and Ciders in Bottles:
Energy expenditures for making and transporting bottles, especially those made of glass, are higher. They can, however, be recycled.
Beer and cider in cans
Lightweight and easily recyclable, aluminium cans are a sustainable packaging choice. They take up less room in transit, which is convenient.
Wines and Spirits for the Connoisseur:
King James has an extensive selection of great spirits from all over the world. It doesn't matter if you prefer gin, vodka, rum, whisky, cognac, vermouth, or tequila; each category has at least one hidden gem.
