Tumblr media
Annie
Yes
Annie would like pda. Not big things but hand holding and in general being close to eachother is on the table.
In general Annie doesn't seem to like big psychical acts, quick hugs or hand holding is what she likes, maybe some cuddles from time to time.
Beowulf
Most definitely
He adores showing you off, so having you on his shoulders, in his hands in general. Doesn't matter how big or small you are he must carry you atleast somewhere.
Hand around the waist is a must every outside appearence.
Big Band
No
He wouldn't really like Pda, I mean, how would you even touch him?
Black Dahlia
Depends
Depends on what's going on really, if it's in her club, just around town, or just inside just the two of you then most definitely.
But if she's trying to do her job and you're assisting her in someway then she wouldn't want to, just so she can focus.
Cerebella
Absolutely!
Adores touching you in someway, always wants you next to her when you go out together.
Doesn't have you around when she's out doing some business so when you are with her she's always asking for some sort of psychical affection.
Double
No
She doesn't really appreciate others seeing her private relationships, especially if she's in her true form it wouldn't really work out if she was.
Eliza
Yes
Will absolutely be touching you someway, something more intimate than hand holding.
If she's not touching you in someway then she definitely has her eye on you.
Fukua
Depends
Really depends on her mood, sometimes she likes holding hands, sometimes she just doesn't want to. Mostly she's in the mood for it though.
Filia
Absolutely
Loves walking around with her hand in yours, loves to peck you on the cheek or the otherway around, her head on your shoulder while sitting down etc.
Marie
Nope
Doesn't want others to see you two be too affectionate, wants to do more active things with you rather than just psychical affection.
MsFortune
In a way
By "in a way" I mean she doesn't really do hand holding or kissing outside, but she just appreciates being super close to you.
Like if she bended her head a little bit her head would touch you.
Painwheel
Usually
Adores holding your hand and being close to you while out, but sometimes she doesn't want to do psychical affection but just wants to stand/sit close to you.
Parasoul
No
She usually doesn't go out with you and if she does she tries to keep professional, sometimes while out she may fold and go quickly back home just so she can be affectionate with you.
Peacock
No
Doesn't like showing affection outside or in front of other people. Will absolutely make up for it by cuddling or watching cartoons together after though.
Robo-Fortune
Doesn't understand
Doesn't really understand the concept of pda, if you somehow got it in her data then she wouldn't care about pda so she'd show affection whenever.
Squigly
Yes
Loves to hold your hand or leaning on you while sitting down. Leviathan will also wrap around you if you seem to be out of it.
Valentine
Nope
Doesn't appreciate to show affection outside, other if she gets jealous then you'll find her gripping onto your waist with her fingers gently pressed onto your hip.

Author’s Note - This took me a year to write. Happy Holidays!
***
You bit your lip as you left your biology lab and headed outside to the sprawling campus of Metropolis University. The air was crisp and fresh as it always was late autumn. It was warmer in Metropolis than it was in Gotham. You theorized it was because the sun shined more here.
Your phone beeped. Your next class wasn’t for another hour and you planned to use this time to finish your paper for Medieval Literature. A sigh escaped you. You pulled out your phone, looking at it as you walked.
‘Are you coming home this weekend?’ You held back an eye roll. Your father couldn’t leave you alone, could he?
‘No, I have plans here. I’ll be back in a month for winter break.’ You looked up to avoid walking into a group of women exiting the library. A smile pulled at your lips. You could show him your medieval lit paper then. Your plan was to write how Beowulf's preoccupation with glory led to the current glorification of superheroes. The look on Bruce’s face would be priceless.
It took him a long time to answer to the point where you were expecting a call from him. However, you only got another text. ‘Be safe.’
You snorted, smiling. That was as close to I love you that Bruce Wayne got. ‘Love you, Dad.’
Just as you hit send, you ran straight into what felt like a brick wall and toppled back to land hard on your butt. The jolt went straight through your bones painfully. You grunted. “I’m so sorry,” a male voice said. A hand appeared in your vision. You eyed it.
“No, I’m sorry. I was texting and walking.” You took the hand after a moment and got to your feet. Your butt hurt a lot. It was going to bruise. You finally looked at the man you ran into. Your breath vaporized from your lungs.
He had the prettiest blue eyes with rich black hair. His smile was big, head tilted like a curious puppy. You couldn’t stop yourself from smiling back at him. “Are you hurt?” He kept your hand a second too long. You felt your face burn.
“No, I’ll be fine.” You pulled your hand away and brushed off your clothes. He looked familiar for some reason. “Have we met before?”
It was his turn to blush as he flicked his head to get the hair out of his eyes. “We’re in the Physics of Star Trek class together.” You bit your lip. Right, that class you took because Tim saw it when you were picking classes and begged you to take it for him. At least it counted as a general course and to be honest, it was pretty cool.
“Oh, you were the one who tried to argue that Superman’s laser eyes were basically the same concept as Star Trek’s phasers.” You shook your head. “Who would have thought that would cause a debate that took the entire class period?”
“I know, right?” He grinned brightly, shifting on his feet. “Well, I was about to get some food from the cafeteria? Would you like to join me?”
You thought about the work you were going to do, but then you remembered how you promised Alfred that you would try to enjoy yourself. “Sure,” you said, turning to walk beside him. “What was your name again? I’m (Y/N) (Y/L/N).” Luckily, Bruce let you enroll under your mother’s name to keep you safe from the dangers that came with the Wayne name.
“I’m Jon Kent.” He held the door to the cafeteria for you. “It’s nice to meet you, (Y/N) (Y/L/N).”
You laughed, heading inside with Jon right behind you.
***
The next day in the Star Trek class, you found Jon sitting next to you with that same dopey, puppy grin on his face. Your heart fluttered when his arm brushed against yours by accident as he raised his hand to start another controversial debate. Jon got a kick out of it. You felt it was some kind of inside joke for him. Maybe he’d explain it to you some day.
After class, Jon walked out with you. “So that was my last class for today. What about you?” he asked, looking at you with his full attention.
“Oh, well it’s the last class for me too.” You smiled when you saw his eyes sparkle at your words.
“Great!” He blushed when he realized he was shouting. His voice softened. “Would you like to go downtown with me? It’s student night at the movie theater. Five dollar tickets.” He chuckled nervously. “The new Transformers movie came out or if you wanted to see something else, I’m game.”
You eyed him, feeling lighter than air. Why did this feel so surreal? Like you were in a movie and this was a classic romance. “Sure.” Your heart skipped a beat when he practically exploded with energy.
“Awesome!” He hopped over a crack in the sidewalk. You swore he floated for a second before he landed.
“I want to drop my stuff off first, so I’ll meet you outside Gnanatti Hall in a half an hour?” You turned away from him, headed toward your dorm.
“Yeah! I’ll see you there.” Jon waved happily at you. You waved back, blushing when you saw people were watching you two. A girl laughed with her friends that Jon was like a lovesick puppy. You felt a wave of doubt flow through you. Could Jon like you like that? You shrugged, deciding not to focus on that right now.
***
Your roommate lounged on their bed, watching you primp yourself in the mirror. “You have a date or something?”
“Maybe? I don’t know.” You shrugged, finishing the last touches on your makeup. It did feel like a date, didn’t it? “I just want to look good anyway in case.”
“Well, if you need the room, just text me. I can go hang out with Taylor in her room, but just don’t be all night,” your roommate said, getting up to grab their laptop.
You wrinkled your nose. “I don’t think it will come to that.” Your heart sank about the idea of being so loose. Besides, you didn’t think Jon was just trying to get into your pants anyway. “But thanks.”
“Sure.” Your roommate opened their laptop and started working on homework. You gathered your purse and phone. “Call me if you need an out.”
“Thanks.” You waved at them and headed out. To think, your dad almost insisted on paying for a private room, but you wanted to have the full experience. Alfred agreed with you. Bruce couldn’t do anything after that.
You glanced at your phone as you headed down the stairs to see a text from Damian. It was a photo of Titus. You sent him a heart back and told him to give him a pet for you. Damian always reached out with Titus as an excuse as if he couldn’t handle missing you himself.
Jon was outside the dorm, bouncing from foot to foot. He grinned when he saw you, nervous energy bouncing off him. You waved and went to meet him. “You look beautiful,” he said, eyes going from your feet to your face several times.
“Thanks.” Your cheeks burned. “You don’t look bad yourself.” Jon blushed and offered you his arm. “Are we walking or taking the bus?”
“I was thinking we could walk. It’s a nice day.” Jon led you down the sidewalk and off campus. You relaxed, letting yourself enjoy.
***
“So I didn’t think you’d be an ice cream person?” Jon teased as he handed you a cone. You smiled, accepting it.
“Who isn’t an ice cream person?” You took a lick, savoring the taste. It reminded you of the rare times your dad would pick you up from school. He always took you out for ice cream after you swore not to tell Alfred.
Jon hummed, taking his own cone. “Lactose intolerant people.” He chuckled, holding the door to the ice cream shop for you. You stepped out into the cold night air. The person inside the shop thought you both were strange for getting ice cream on a chilly night, but Jon was so excited. You couldn’t say no. “My mother doesn’t like it because it’s too cold.”
“Really?” You laughed. “To be honest, my...” You had to think about what to call Alfred. Butler came with it’s own impressions. You didn’t want Jon to know. “Grandfather doesn’t like ice cream either, but he always keeps some around for everyone else.”
“So you have a grandfather?” Jon nudged your side. “Did he raise you?”
You raised an eyebrow at him. The two of you walked slowly back toward campus. “Somewhat. My dad was there too, but my grandfather was the one who was always there.” You smiled, making a note to yourself to call Alfred. “What about you?” You side eyed him with a playful smirk.
“Well, I have a mom and a dad.” He didn’t meet your eye. You caught the slight downturn of his lips. He was holding back something. “I’m not close to my mom’s dad, but I know my dad’s mom pretty well.”
You wrinkled your nose slightly, sensing his discomfort. “I never asked what your major was.”
Jon accepted the subject change with a smile. Funny, was Jon hiding his family like you were hiding yours? “Oh, I’m undecided right now. I have a lot of interests.” He nudged your arm and licked his ice cream. “What about you?”
“I’m majoring in business,” you said, smiling at him before taking a lick of your ice cream. “But I might just switch my major over to classics and minor in something else. I want to do something that interests me instead of what will make me a career.” You bit your lip. Of course, you were set for life simply because of your father. You knew it was a privilege.
“Classics?” Jon blinked. “Wow, that makes a lot of sense.”
You elbowed his side. “What is that supposed to mean?” You narrowed your eyes at him while he smirked.
“I just meant I noticed you were carrying a textbook of Greek lit when we met, so now it makes sense.” Jon took a lick of his ice cream. “I kinda thought you were an Amazon or something.”
You snorted. “Just because I study Greek lit doesn’t mean I’m an Amazon. Are you an alien just because you are in the Star Trek class?” You laughed when Jon choked.
“No.” He chuckled nervously, stumbling over a crack in the sidewalk. You grabbed his arm to steady him. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome. Sorry if I hit a nerve there.” A flash of guilt filled you. You wondered why he seemed so taken back by your comment?
“No, you’re fine.” Jon looked at you. “You just took me by surprise, I guess.” He smiled. “By that logic, would the whole class be Aliens including you?”
“I suppose.” You laughed, finishing your ice cream as you both reached campus. “We should bring that up in class next time.”
Jon laughed hard. You liked the sound of his laugh. It was so open and free. You and Jon kept walking past your dorm hall and doing loops around campus, not wanting the night to end.
***
Weeks past, you and Jon were inseparable. You did your homework together, went to movies, had lunch and dinner together and a billion other things. If this was what falling in love was, you enjoyed it.
Two days before you were going home for winter break, you and Jon were at the Metropolis Mall. It was a huge place and you had to take two buses to make it there. The entire mall was blaring Christmas music and decorated to the nines. Jon was bouncing on his toes like an eager child. You were glad that you had already gotten his gift. He was too excited to not notice if you picked up something for him here.
“So where should we go first?” Jon asked, reaching to take your hand. You smiled at how warm his hand was in yours. It had gotten colder in Metropolis the last few weeks, but Jon was always warm. You don’t know how he did it.
“I don’t know. I need something for Cass, my sister.” You bit your lip. Jon squeezed your hand, pulling you along toward the Cinnabon. “What about you? I mean, besides Cinnabon for yourself?”
“Cinnabon for you too,” Jon chuckled, getting in line. “We need food before we walk around this place anyway.” He squeezed your hand again. “I need to get something for my mom and dad.”
You hummed, distracted by three kids running by. They were clearly high on sugar as their parents chased after them. “This is so strange. We never went to malls when I was growing up.”
“Well, you did live in Gotham. Do they even have one?” Jon teased, letting go of your hand to slid his arm around your waist.
“They do. We just never went.” You avoid telling him how Alfred thought it was an indecent place and refused to allow you to go there. The first time you went was when you were sixteen with friends. So far, you avoided mentioning you were from the Wayne family. Cass was the only name you dared to voice.
“We came every year. My mom loves the decorations.” Jon blushed slightly. “Plus we always went holiday shopping for my dad together.”
You smiled, leaning your head against Jon’s shoulder. “That sounds nice. My family didn’t really have any traditions except for Christmas dinner and presents afterwards.”
“That’s kinda sad.” Jon rubbed your back. You got to the front of the line and Jon ordered for both of you. It’s amazing how well he knew you in such a short amount of time. Then again, you knew him quite well too, which is why you slipped the clerk your credit card before he could give his. “Hey, I got this.”
“Nah, my treat.” You winked up at him, taking the card back once it was processed. “Besides, you need to save your money for nice things for your parents.”
The two of you got your drinks and cinnamon rolls and sat down at one of the tables. “Are you sure you have to go back to Gotham?” Jon asked, frowning slightly.
“Yeah, I promised my family. They’re even coming to pick me up.” You blushed as you tried to take a bite of the cinnamon roll, but it was too big. Jon just went into his, getting frosting on his nose. You laughed, reaching over to wipe it off with your finger.
“So I’ll get to meet them?” Jon asked once he swallowed, smiling when you licked the frosting off your finger. You froze.
“Maybe not.” You bit your lip. “I’d rather they not know about you yet. Keep you to myself.” Your heart sank when you saw his face fall. “Not that I’m trying to hide you or something, it’s just my family is overbearing. I want us to be just us until we add them in. Don’t want to scare you off.” You laughed, smoothing it over.
The sparkle came back to Jon’s eye. “Really?” He took another big bite of his cinnamon roll. “You’re just going to have to go for it, (Y/N).” He nodded to your roll.
You sighed, picking it up and taking a big bite. Frosting got all over your chin and nose, but the taste was worth the mess. Jon reached over to wipe frosting off your face with his finger, copying what you did to him. It made you laugh. Your laughter triggered his too and soon the people around you stared wondering what you two were laughing about.
***
It took several walks around the mall for Jon to find a present for his parents. You finally convinced him to get one of those engraved glass figures. He gave the man a photo of the two of them, and you had to wait an hour for it to be processed.
Meanwhile, you looked for a present for Cass. She was the hardest to shop for. Jon gave his opinion and eventually found you a super soft sweater that you knew Cass would love.
“So we got another half an hour until the glass thing is done.” Jon put his hands in his pockets. He held his elbow out, so you could hook your arm in his. “What should we do?”
“I don’t know.” You laughed, leaning against his arm. “We could...” You frowned when Jon suddenly stopped, tilting his head to the side as if he was listening to something. “You okay?”
“Yeah.” He smiled, pulling away from you. “I just need to use the bathroom real quick.” He blushed and ran back the way you came. You watched him go. It was very odd. He never did something like that before except for the time you maybe got him too excited.
You walked over to a coffee place and ordered yourself and Jon a coffee. You heard the girls’ behind the counter talking about a bank robbery stopped by the young sexy Superman. They must be talking about Conner. You met him once at the manor when he stopped by for Tim. He was very cute and knew he was. Actually, you were sure he was probably the only non-family hero you met. Dad always made sure you were kept out of the way of his night work.
“Hey, I’m back,” Jon said suddenly, appearing behind you. He was out of breath, hair disheveled.
“You didn’t have to run back so fast.” You reached up to adjust his hair. Jon blushed slightly, eyes widening. “I got us coffee.”
“Cool.” He smiled sheepishly, picking up the order once they called your name. He handed you your cup. “Thanks babe.”
You raised an eyebrow at the new nickname before you decided you liked it. “Now what should we do?” You hooked your arm with his and led him away.
“I think we should check out that arcade.” Jon pointed across the way to the brightly lit arcade. “Let’s see what we can do.”
“Alright, but I’ll warn you. I’m pretty good at these.” You nudged his side, laughing when he looked at you in surprise.
“Really? Oh please, I’d like to see that.” He smirked. The two of you wandered inside. You kicked his butt at every single game you played.
***
“(Y/N)!” You jerked awake only to see your disgruntled roommate hovering over you. “Your boyfriend is here. Can you tell him to only come at decent hours next time?” They went back to their bed.
“Sorry.” You yawned, sitting up to glance at your clock. It was six in the morning. You were supposed to get up in an hour to pack and meet Alfred at eight in the parking lot. Climbing out of bed, you slipped on a pair of slippers and shuffled out of your dorm room to find Jon standing nervously in the hallway. He was fully dressed for the day. Probably doing his morning jog that he told you he did every morning. “What’s up?”
“Hey.” Jon looked you up and down, smiling at your pajamas before taking your hand and guiding you down to the lounge. It was empty at this hour. “I wanted to see you before you left.”
“Jon, we said goodbye last night.” You squeezed his hand, taking a seat on the couch. He sat down right beside you. His thigh brushed against yours. You yawned again, noticing he was wearing the sweatpants you got him.
“I know, but I had to give you my present.” You blinked at him.
“You gave me a lovely bath bomb set, Jon. I can’t wait to use it when I get home.” Leaning over, you kissed his cheek. “You don’t need to get me anything else.”
Jon shook his head. “No, I needed to get you something more meaningful. I talked to one of my friends last night. He told me I was an idiot to give the girl I love bath bombs.” He blushed so red that his face rivaled the poinsettia in the corner of the room.
Your jaw dropped. “Love?” Your mouth went dry, heart spasming. “You love me?”
Jon nodded. “I do.” He smiled shyly, taking your hand in his. “I couldn’t let you go without telling you.”
“I’m coming back, you know.” You laughed nervously. “But I love you too, Jon.” You met his eye, seeing the joy sparkling in his eyes. Slowly, you leaned over to seal a kiss to his lips. Jon melted into you, his arms wrapping around you to pull you against his chest. He was so warm.
Jon started laughing. You giggled along with him, pulling away to gather yourself. Your lips tingled from the pressure. “I wanted to give you this,” Jon said, swallowing back his laughter as he pulled a jewelry box out of his pocket.
“You didn’t have to.” He placed the box in your hand.
“Open it.” Those puppy dog eyes were on full power and you opened the box. Inside was a golden necklace with a tiny star pendant.
A big smile pulled onto your lips as you took it out, noting the tiny designs etched in the star. “Wow.” You took a deep breath. “Can you put it on me?” You turned, handing Jon the necklace.
“Of course.” Jon chuckled. His fingers feather-light on the back of your neck. “I’m glad you like it.” He kissed the back of your neck once he closed the clasp. “I wanted something you could remember me by while you’re at home.”
“It’s not like you won’t be able to call or text me.” You turned to face him, touching the necklace. It made your skin tingle when he gave you that puppy dog grin. “It’s only three weeks. I’m coming back a week before everyone else to set up my internship at the Metropolis Library Archives.”
Jon leaned forward and stole another kiss. “You’re so smart and beautiful. I can’t believe I met you sometimes.”
You smiled into the kiss, pulling away when you caught the time on the wall clock. “I have to get ready to leave.” It hurt to stand up, knowing you wouldn’t see him for three weeks. “But we’ll text.”
“We can even zoom call too.” He got up, frowning slightly. “I love you.”
“I love you.” You took a step toward him. Jon wrapped his arms around your waist. You pressed against him as you slowly kissed him one last time.
***
It surprised you when you got a text from Dick telling you he’d meet you in the parking lot. You went out with your bags, slightly confused. Alfred said he was going to pick you up. Worry nibbled it’s way inside you. Was Dad hurt? Was someone dead? You hated your family sometimes. It was very much like them to not tell you something like that until you had to find out.
Dick leaned against the car with his arms crossed, looking around the campus with interest. You noticed two women were eyeing him, checking him out from afar. You had to hold back the eye roll.
He perked up when he saw you. “Hey kiddo.” He opened his arms for you. You reluctantly gave him a hug. “It’s been too long.”
“Who’s hurt?” you asked. You felt him wince in your arms.
“Why does someone need to be hurt?” Dick pulled away and took your bags to put in the trunk. You noticed he must have borrowed one of Bruce’s cars. It was the Porsche. Dick basically had a claim over that one.
“Because Alfred was going to come pick me up, and the only reason for Alfred to not be here is if he’s needed elsewhere.” You frowned, narrowing your eyes at him when he closed the trunk and allowed you to see him again. He bit his lip, running a hand through his hair.
“Okay, you caught me.” He held up his hands. “Bruce may have taken a bad fall during a recent ski trip.” Your eyes widened. That was code for broken bones or more. You swallowed hard.
“Is he okay?” You asked, a lump forming in your throat. Dick gestured for you to get into the car. You did and he quickly joined you.
Dick turned on the car, turning up the heat. “He had a bad fall when he was chasing Firefly the other day. Broken leg, concussion, and some internal bleeding. He’s fine now though, just has to recover. Alfred needed to stay home to make sure he actually rests.” Dick patted your hand. “Don’t worry, kiddo.”
You felt tears burn in your eyes, but you blinked them away. Dick’s hand squeezed yours. “Why can’t you guys tell me these things?”
“We didn’t want to worry you during finals.” Dick leaned over to kiss your temple. “Bruce asked us not to.”
“Jerk.” You crossed your arms. Keeping your gaze forward, you thought about Jon and felt the weight of the necklace around your neck. You suddenly felt better. “Well, I guess I appreciate that.”
“I did disagree with him, but he didn’t listen.” Dick pulled into traffic. His hand stayed on yours. “How was school?” He grinned, switching subjects. “I heard you changed your major.”
You shrugged your shoulders. “Yeah, I finally decided to do it.” You sighed. “School is fun. The people are nice.”
Dick hummed, glancing at you as he got onto the freeway. “I’m glad you’re doing what makes you happy.” He squeezed your hand. “Now tell me everything.”
You began to tell Dick things, but avoided mentioning Jon. He was your secret for now. The last thing you wanted was your family to find out about him.
***
Jon floated above the city, depressed. He laid out on his back, looking up at the sky with his cape floating below him. His fingers itched to grab his phone to text you, but he stopped himself. “Give her a chance to get home,” he mumbled to himself. “Don’t want to be clingy.”
He heard an burglary alarm in the south side. Flipping around, he zoomed to that end of town and flew right into the jewelry store to grab both robbers and bring them outside. Then he grabbed some chains from the back of a nearby pickup and tied them to the light post. Both robbers blinked in confusion before swearing at him. Jon just smiled at them and flew away.
He did several more good deeds before sitting on top of the Daily Planet. Closing his eyes, he focused on the sound of your heartbeat. Your heartbeat was unique. He remembered when he first heard it in class with you. Then he was lucky enough to actually meet you.
“Jonathan Kent, what are you doing?” Lois Lane said, coming out of the Planet’s roof door. “Aren’t you supposed to be studying for your last final?” She pulled her jacket tighter around her. Jon got to his feet, blushing.
“I wanted to take a break.” He smiled sheepishly. It’s not like Lois knew what he was doing. He made sure to keep you his secret. The last thing he needed was the famous Lois Lane and Clark Kent to scare you off.
Lois hummed, narrowing her eyes at her son. “Right.” She reached to adjust the cape on his shoulders. “Well, Damian stopped by and told us we’re invited to the Manor for Christmas. With his injuries, the family wanted more people around to keep Bruce occupied.”
“Oh yeah, he told me about that when we met up the other night,” Jon said, remembering Damian mentioning that before he told him off for only giving you bath bombs. Lois narrowed her eyes. “It wasn’t long. There was just a concern with Kid Amazo or I guess Man Amazo now?” He chuckled.
“Well as long as you pass your finals.” Lois crossed her arms, smiling at her son. “I haven’t seen you in a while. You missed all our family dinners.”
Jon blushed and glanced over his shoulder. He spent those days with you. “Sorry, Mom. I’ll be there this week.”
“Of course.” She reached up to brush a strand of hair off his forehead. “Now you better go study before the world explodes again or something.”
“Yes, Mom.” Jon kissed her cheek. He floated up into the air. “Tell Dad I said hi and that I’ll see him at dinner this week.”
“Tell him yourself.” Lois waved as Jon flew off into the city. He headed back to Metropolis U, wishing you were there to study with him. Maybe he could text you now? You had to be home by now, right?
***
“Wow, Dad. You’re in bed. I thought you never used it,” you teased, stepping into his bedroom with a big smile of relief. Dick said he was okay, but you couldn’t relax until you saw him with your own eyes.
Bruce grunted, setting his paper down. He was sat up against the pillows with his cast covered leg propped up. “Har, har.” A hint of a smile pulled on his lips as you came over to him and sat on the edge of the bed. “I’m glad you’re home.”
“Merry Christmas, Dad.” You kissed his cheek and took his hand. It was rougher than it used to be. More nicks and calluses.
“How was school?” He squeezed your hand, studying you with that vigilant gaze you used to hate when you were younger. Now you enjoyed it. It was the way he showed he cared. However, his eyes lingered on your necklace and suddenly you changed your mind about that.
“Good. Aced all my classes and changed my major officially. I’ll go for classics with a minor in linguistics instead.” You shrugged your shoulders as you reached up to hide the necklace in your shirt.
Bruce hummed. “Good, I want you to do what you want.” He squeezed your hand again before wrapping his arm around your shoulders and pulling you into his side. “I’m proud of you.”
Your heart warmed. “Thanks Dad.” You eyed his cast. “How long will you be out?”
“Six weeks.” He frowned. “But the boys and Cass have it covered. No need to worry.” He rubbed your shoulder. “Now do you have that paper you wanted me to read?”
You smirked, pulling it up on your phone. “Yeah, I do. Aced it, and it sealed my internship with the Metropolis Library Archives too.” You handed him your phone. Bruce started reading, snorting at the title. All you did was pray Jon didn’t text you while Bruce was looking at your phone.
***
Days later, Jon was laying on his bed in his parents’ apartment. His phone was in his hands. You were about to call him. It took a while to schedule a time. You said your family was nosy. Then again, so was Jon’s, but luckily Clark just left for the watchtower. Out of range.
Your ringtone echoed in his room. He grinned, answering it. “Hey beautiful,” he whispered when he heard his mother turn on the shower. He relaxed, knowing he was in the clear.
“Hey yourself, handsome.” You laughed. Jon’s heart ached at the sound of your voice. “How are you?”
“Good. Just finished family dinner. Now I’m in my room.” Jon stretched his legs, eyeing the old Overwatch poster on his wall. “At my parents’ place.”
“I figured.” You sighed. He heard you moving around on your end. “Well, home has been interesting for me.”
“Really, why?” Jon put an arm behind his head.
“My family is a little crazy.” A dog barked in the background. “Okay, Titus. Come on in.” A door opened and closed. “Sorry, my dog wants to be in my room with me. He gets attached.”
Jon smirked. “Titus huh? Can I see him?”
“Maybe when we zoom call tomorrow? I’m not presentable.” You coughed. “I have to go with my brother to a party and I’m getting dressed.”
“Ooo,” Jon bit his lip, daring to ask the question. “Can you send me a picture of what you’re wearing?”
You hummed. He heard you brushing your hair. “I can, it’s a nicer party. My dad can’t go, so I didn’t want my brother to go alone.” You laughed. “You can’t make fun of what I’m wearing though.”
“Never.” Jon imagined what you could be wearing. He had to shake his head to stop the dirty thoughts. “Whatever you wear is beautiful.”
You laughed again. Jon couldn’t get enough of the sound. “You charmer.” You sighed softly. “Promise you won’t laugh or make a joke?”
“I promise with all my heart.” Jon pulled the phone away from his ear when it buzzed with a text from you. His breath caught in his throat. You were drop dead gorgeous. Jon’s mouth went dry. He coughed hard. “Woah, babe. You’re stunning.”
“Thanks.” Your voice sounded faint “At least you won’t have to worry. My brother will keep people away from me.”
“Thank goodness.” Jon sighed in relief, zooming in on the photo to look at your face. You were blushing. “I was worried I’d have competition.”
“Like any of them would stand a chance.” You blew a kiss into the phone when a voice echoed in the background. Jon swore he heard a familiar ‘TT’ in the background. He shook his head, must be imagining things. You didn’t have anything to do with Damian Wayne. “I got to go. Let’s zoom call tonight, okay?”
“Okay.” Jon grinned as he saw you were wearing his necklace too. “I love you.”
“Love you too.” You hung up the phone quickly just as another voice spoke up. Jon set his phone down and relaxed. He eventually fell asleep, dreaming of you in that beautiful outfit.
***
“TT, what is with the necklace?” Damian demanded as he handed you a drink. The two of you were at the Wayne Foundation Christmas Fundraiser. Since Bruce was out, you and Damian were forced to attend in his absence.
“What?” You blinked, taking the drink before glancing down at Jon’s necklace. It matched your outfit. You hoped he wouldn’t notice anything about it.
“The star?” Damian nodded toward it as he sipped his drink. “It’s cheap.”
You wrinkled your nose, grabbing your necklace in your fist. “It’s not cheap. I happen to like it.” You let go of the necklace and flicked his nose. Damian narrowed his eyes dangerously at you. “Knock it off.”
A few businessmen approached. You and Damian dropped your conversation. Damian mumbled under his breath, but you talking over him. Soon the men moved on, leaving you and Damian alone again.
“You smile more than you used to.” Damian crossed his arms, rolling his shoulders in his nice Armani tux. “It’s disturbing.” He took a drink of the champagne, wrinkling his nose at the taste.
“Just because you rarely smile doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t.” You rolled your eyes, watching the people start to dance not so far away. It was only a matter of time before someone came over to ask for a dance. “I’m enjoying school, Damian. Nothing else.”
Damian hummed. He tensed when he saw Bambi King striding over with her eyes on Damian as if he was a delicious piece of steak. You smirked at him, panic brightening his eyes. “Dance with me now.” He grabbed your hand and dropped his drink on a waiter’s tray.
“Okay, okay.” You laughed, stumbling after him. “You don’t want to be devoured tonight, huh?”
Damian spun you in his arms and started to waltz. “Stop it or I’ll call Zeke what’shisname over.”
You just laughed, dancing with your brother. “How about two more dances and we ditch this place?”
“Excellent.” He spun you around and brought you back to him. “We showed our faces.”
“Alfred will just be happy we stayed this long.” You winked at Damian, catching the sparkle in his eye. He was enjoying himself, even if he wouldn’t admit it.
***
You walked into the kitchen in your pajamas, yawning and giving everyone a lazy wave. It was Christmas Eve morning and the entire family was home. Most were already eating at the table. You stopped to kiss Alfred’s cheek as he flipped pancakes on the stove. “Thanks for breakfast, Alfred.”
“You’re welcome, Miss (Y/N).” Alfred nodded for you to go eat. You went to Bruce next and maneuvered around his elevated foot to kiss his cheek too.
Bruce hummed, watching you as you took your seat next to Tim and across from Damian. Tim eyed you carefully. “What?” You asked Tim after he didn’t look away.
“You are the last to breakfast.” Tim looked around the table before looking back at you. Dick, Barbara, and Cass were chatting among themselves at the other end of the table, but Jason and Damian had their full attention on you. Bruce just went back to his paper, but you knew he was listening.
You shrugged, helping yourself to pancakes and eggs. “I was up late.”
“Talking to someone,” Jason mumbled, smirking when you glared at him. “I heard you giggling when I came in last night.” You and Jon finally got to zoom call each other. It left you giddy, missing him so bad that it hurt.
“I was talking to one of my friends from school.” You kept your head down, knowing you were blushing. “I didn’t know that was a crime.”
Damian snorted. “Is that the person who gave you that cheap necklace?”
Your hand shielded the necklace as if to protect it from his words. “Why are you so obsessed with my necklace? I bought it myself if you must know.” You took a bite of your pancake, suddenly losing your appetite. It was like you were reliving your high school years where your brothers tried to involve themselves in your social life.
“Boys, leave (Y/N) alone,” Bruce said, folding up the paper to take a sip of his coffee. “Your sister is an adult and can talk to whoever she wants.”
“Thank you, Dad.” You smiled smugly at your brothers. Jon was still your secret, but you vowed to be more careful. Last thing you need was your brothers tracking down Jon to give him the ‘shovel talk’.
Tim hummed, poking at his food. “How did that Star Trek class go?” he asked after a moment. You laughed and easily fell into a conversation about the class.
“Hey Bruce,” Dick said as he got up to get another pitcher of orange juice from Alfred. “Are the Kents coming to Christmas dinner?”
You almost choked on your pancake. Kents? “Yes, they are coming,” Bruce said as he poured more coffee into his cup.
“TT, at least it will be somewhat enjoyable with Jon here.” Damian narrowed his eyes at Tim. “Even if we have to tolerate the clone.” Tim glared back at him, but didn’t reply.
Meanwhile, you forced yourself to swallow your food. Your brain rushed at hundred miles per hour. Kents? Jon? Jon Kent? Could there be that many Kents? That many Jon Kents? The blood drained out of your face. You quickly took a sip of your drink to hide it, but Bruce noticed, frowning slightly as he watched you.
“The Kents are always well mannered. Perhaps some of it can rub off,” Alfred said pointedly as he added another plate of pancakes to the table.
“We’re not that bad, Al.” Dick chuckled. Jason was looking at you too, eyebrow raised in concern.
“Maybe Cass, (Y/N), and I aren’t, but you boys...” Barbara said, rolling her eyes.
You finished your glass and carefully set it down. Your hand was shaking so bad that it clattered against your plate. “(Y/N), are you alright?” Bruce whispered as Damian and Tim started arguing.
You licked your lips. “Are the Kents from Metropolis?”
Bruce raised his eyebrows. A hint of a smirk pulled at his lips. “They’re the Supers, sweetheart. Superman, Superboys, Lois Lane.”
“Superboys? Like more than one?” Your eyes widened. Suddenly flashes of Jon quickly leaving you with excuses of bathroom runs only to come back completely disheveled. How sometimes he seemed to almost float. The look on his face when you joked he must be an alien for being in the Star Trek class. You could be wrong, hoped you were.
Bruce chuckled softly. “Yes, Conner was the first and still is full time, Jon is the second, part time due to college.” Bruce took a sip of his coffee. His eyes studied you as the world’s greatest detective only could. “Jon goes to your school.”
Your stomach dropped to your feet. “Oh no.” You pressed your hand over your mouth and jumped out of your chair. The chair clattered to the ground as you ran out of the room to the nearest bathroom.
Slamming the door behind you and locking it, you slid down to the floor. Your chest tightened.
“How the fuck did I happen to meet Superboy and fall in love with him? Oh my god, I’m going to die. Jon’s going to die.” You pulled your knees into your chest. “How could I be so dumb? Why didn’t I pay more attention to other heroes?”
You touched your necklace, clutching the star so tightly that it embedded into your palm.
A soft knock on the door made you flinch. “(Y/N), are you okay?” Cass asked softly. You reached up to open the door and motioned for Cass to come inside. She slipped in and quickly closed the door behind her.
“Cass, I’m screwed,” you whispered softly, grabbing her hand and pulling her to the floor with you. You tensed when you heard the boys outside, loudly eavesdropping.
She blinked in confusion. Cass clicked her tongue, settling down beside you. “Why? You’re not pregnant.”
“Of course you would know that.” You groaned and rested your forehead on your knees. “Damn it. I was so happy, but now I’m screwed because I’m so stupid and I didn’t even realize who he was.”
Cass hummed. She wrapped an arm around your shoulders. “You are dating someone?” You sighed, nodding your head. It was nice she could read you so well. You didn’t have to say anything. “The family won’t approve?”
“No.” You swallowed hard. A lump hard in your throat. “And they are going to find out so much sooner than I wanted.”
You watched her frown in thought before her eyes lit up. “Oh no.”
“Yes.” Tears filled your eyes. “It’s going to be so bad.” A sob slipped out of you. You pressed your hand against your mouth to silence it.
Cass rubbed your back, kissing your temple. “We will get through this, but first you have to call Jon. He needs to know that you know and if he doesn’t know about you, then you need to tell him.”
“But then what? He’s going to be here tomorrow. I don’t know if I can act like I don’t know him.” You bit your lip hard to stop another sob.
“No, but we can get allies.” Cass smirked. You looked at her confused, but she just hummed and pulled you into a tight hug. “Trust me.”

The kids at the children’s hospital laughed and waved as both Jon and Clark flew away. Jon had a permanent smile on his face. This was one of his favorite part of the holidays, being able to visit hospitals and children’s homes on Christmas Eve. It made their Christmas. His heart felt warm.
“Having a good time, son?” Clark asked once Jon and him were far above the city.
“Yeah, I love doing this sort of thing.” Jon wished you were here. He knew you would love this as much as he did. Closing his eyes, he listened for your heartbeat. It was still in Gotham and faster than normal.
“What’s wrong?” Clark asked, tilting his head to listen too.
Jon swallowed hard, opening his eyes. “Nothing.” Maybe you were working out? Or just having some fun? He shouldn’t be worried.
Clark hummed, studying Jon. “We should head home. Your mother probably has some cookies made already.”
Jon licked his lips. “Can’t wait.” Clark flew toward home, but Jon stopped when his phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket, almost dropping it when he saw it was you. Clark paused, watching Jon curiously. Jon smiled sheepishly before putting the phone to his ear. “Hello?”
“Hi.” You sounded off. Jon’s stomach dropped slightly. “I don’t know how to say this.”
“Babe, are you breaking up with me?” Jon chuckled humorlessly. Clark flew a little closer, pretending that he wasn’t eavesdropping. Jon couldn’t find it in himself to care.
“No, but it might be easier,” you muttered almost under your breath. That was like a knife in Jon’s heart. He felt so confused. “Jon, do you know who I am?”
Jon blinked, flinching slightly. Clark tensed at the sight. “(Y/N) (Y/L/N), what’s going on?” Jon said. Clark’s eyes widened at the sound of your name. Jon frowned at Clark, wondering if Clark knew your name for some reason. Could have been from the internship you scored? Would Clark know about that?
You sighed. Jon heard someone talk to you. “Yeah, he doesn’t have a clue either. I’m not the only dumb one,” you said to them, voice fainter as if you covered the speaker of your phone. Jon clenched his hand around his phone. It took all he had not to just fly to you and demand answers. “Jon, do you really not know who my family is? Like at all?” you asked him again.
“Your family doesn’t matter to me. I love you, damn it,” Jon snapped, blushing when his father face palmed. Why did he feel like he was missing something?
Something almost like a sob came from you. Jon tensed at the sound. “Jonathan Kent, my father is Bruce Wayne.”
Time stopped. The blood drained out of Jon’s face. His phone slipped out of his hand. “Oh my god.”
The next thing Jon knew, he was sitting on a rooftop with his father talking to you on the phone. Jon tried to wet his mouth, pushing aside all the images of Damian and Bruce murdering him for dating their (Y/N). Damian mentioned you once or twice, but Jon never met you or even seen a photo of you before.
Jon watched his father blankly. He felt numb. How could he have been so dumb? All the signs were there. You even looked a bit like Damian when he thought about it.
“I’m on board with your plan and I’ll update Jon once he recovers from the shock.” Clark chuckled, watching Jon with a teasing expression. “And it’s nice to finally meet you, (Y/N). Your father always spoke highly of you.”
Jon stumbled to his feet, reaching for the phone. Clark shook his head before hanging up the phone. “Jon, my sweet boy.” Clark pulled Jon into a hug. “I love you so much, but you get into so much trouble.”
“Are you saying that because I’m going to die tomorrow?” Jon mumbled, resting his chin on Clark’s shoulder. “I really love her, Dad.”
“I know.” Clark pulled back to look him in the eye. “We got a plan. You’re not going to start World War Three when Damian and Bruce whip out the kryptonite. (Y/N) is just as smart as her father bragged all these years.”
“Of course, she’s smart. She’s amazing.”  Jon grinned, thinking about you. “I can’t believe I was so dumb. I should have known.”
Clark chuckled, ruffling Jon’s hair. Jon groaned at the touch. “To be fair, I don’t think (Y/N) knew about you either.”
Jon sighed, taking his phone back and shoving it in his pocket. “So, do I get to know more about this plan?”
“We can discuss it when we get home.” Clark floated up into the sky. “I can’t wait to tell your mother.” He flew toward home.
“Hey!” Jon flew after him, but Clark just flew faster. “That’s not nice! At least let me tell her! Dad!”
***
Later that day, you and Cass slowly recruited Barbara and Steph. Barbara was on board with little convincing, giving you a big hug. Steph on the other hand...luckily she was spending Christmas Eve with her mom.
“You’re dating Superboy?! Oh my god, oh my god. Damian’s going to freak! Can I be there when he finds out? Oh, please, please, please,” Steph shouted through the phone. You, Cass, and Barbara were in your bedroom, strategizing.
“I mean you’ll be here tomorrow since your mom is working Christmas Day, so you’ll witness,” you said dully. Your heart pounded like a sledgehammer just thinking about it. Even with allies, you weren’t sure how it would go. You kept seeing Jon’s death, Damian losing his only friend all because of you.
Cass clicked her tongue. She held her hand out for the phone. You handed it over before covering your face with your hands. Cass talked quietly with Steph. Barbara rubbed your back, giving you a sympathetic smile.
“It’s okay.” Barbara whispered in your ear. “It’s all going to be okay.”
“How do you know that?” You looked up at her, tears burning your eyes.
Barbara smiled. “When they see how happy you and Jon are, they’ll have to accept it. Damian loves you both. He wants you to both be happy. Bruce wants you to be happy.”
You groaned, flopping down on the bed. “I don’t know.” You grabbed your pillow and pressed your face into it. Barbara patted your knee. You always had a close relationship with her. She was the one who told you about the internship at the Metropolis Library Archives and the first one you told about getting it.
“You do know. Now stop moping, we got a plan to form.” Barbara pulled the pillow from your face. Cass hung up the phone and set it on your bedside table. “We need to get some of the boys in on this.” Barbara crossed her arms.
Cass clicked her tongue again before leaving the room suddenly. You and Barbara shared a look. “I don’t know. The boys never keep things quiet,” you said after a moment.
“True, but the more allies the better in this case.” Barbara smiled. “We’ll have to bring in Alfred for sure.”
“I’ll tell him later. Alone.” You blushed. Alfred might have been your confidant when you were younger, but the idea of telling him about Jon...it made you wince. Alfred wouldn’t judge you though.
Cass reentered the room with Jason and Tim behind her. Tim looked confused, sipping a cup of coffee while Jason seemed slightly concerned at the sight of you. You realized you still looked like a mess from all the tears you shed earlier.
“Okay, what’s going on?” Tim asked sharply. Cass closed and locked the door behind them. Jason sat next to you on the bed, eyeing you carefully.
“We need you to be understanding and willing to support (Y/N),” Barbara said, glaring at Tim then Jason. “No matter what.”
“Don’t tell me you’re pregnant.” Tim ran a hand through his hair. “Because I don’t want to be anywhere near the manor when you tell Bruce.”
“I’m not pregnant. Why does everyone think that?” You blushed, wiping your eyes with your sleeve.
Jason cleared his throat. “Well, that’s the running theory downstairs.”
Barbara rolled her eyes. “You’re all idiots.”
Cass held up a hand, silencing the room. “(Y/N), tell them.”
You hugged the pillow to your chest. Your blood turned to ice. If you felt this bad telling Tim and Jason, how was it going to be with Damian and Bruce.
“We won’t judge you, (Y/N). We’re worried about you,” Jason said, putting a hand on your shoulder and squeezing gently.
“Honest. We’re here for you, even if you’re being a little overemotional,” Tim added, sipping his coffee. Cass punched his arm. Tim yelped in response.
You took a deep breath. “I’m dating Jon Kent.”
Silence followed. You glanced between Jason and Tim. Both were froze, eyes wide. Barbara smirked at the sight while Cass just rolled her eyes.
Finally, a chuckle escaped from Jason before spilling into full out laughter. He rolled off the bed, holding his stomach as if it would burst from the laughter alone. Tim slowly blinked and downed the rest of his coffee in one go.
“It’s not funny.” You nudged Jason’s side with your toe.
“But it is.” Jason choked, still laughing. Barbara sighed, reaching down to pinch Jason’s ear. He yowled in pain as she drag him up and onto the bed. “Ouch, okay. Not funny.”
“How? Why?” Tim asked, setting his cup down before sitting on the other side of you.
“I didn’t know it was him. We met at school, and fell in love.” You touched your necklace. Both of your brothers watching the movement. “It wasn’t until this morning when you all mentioned Superboy was Jon Kent that it hit me.”
Jason chuckled, holding up his hands when Barbara threatened his ear again. “So Bruce and Damian don’t know yet?”
“No, but we need you with us and to go with our plan.” Cass straightened, glaring at Tim and Jason. “For (Y/N).”
Tim sighed. “I’m always on your side...but I get to bring Kon in on this.” He smirked, nudging your side.
“Kon already knows. We already informed Clark and Lois. They promised to tell him,” you said, smiling at Tim’s surprise. You turned to Jason. “Jay?”
Jason rolled his shoulders. “Well, I guess I can help, but I reserve the right to give Jon the shovel talk.”
You groaned while the others laughed. “Please no.”
“Nope, I got to hold over my big brother rights.” Jason held up his hands. “Right, Tim?”
Tim shrugged. “I don’t care as much, but sure.”
You laid back on your bed, slapping a hand over your eyes as everyone laughed. It felt better, knowing that if you got through telling Jason and Tim, the rest will be not as challenging. At least you hoped.

When Jon landed outside of Wayne Manor on Christmas Day, he closed his eyes and found your heartbeat. Your heart was music to his ears. He grinned, running a hand through his messy hair to get it back to normal.
“He’s love sick already,” Kon chuckled, bumping Jon in the back as he jogged ahead to knock on the front door. Jon glared at him.
“You’re not going to fool anyone for long,” Lois said, reaching up to fix Jon’s hair again. Jon groaned, gently pushing Lois’ hands away.
“I’m not that bad, Mom.” Jon crossed his arms as the front door opened to reveal Damian Wayne himself.
“TT, Kents.” He stepped aside let them in. “Father is in the den.”
“Thank you, Damian.” Clark and Lois headed toward the den, knowing the way. Kon was jogging up the stairs. Jon stayed next to Damian.
Damian eyed Jon carefully. Jon swallowed hard, biting his lip. “So how are things?” Jon asked. Damian raised an eyebrow in response. Jon blushed. Lois was right, Jon wasn’t going to keep it a secret for long. He listened for you again. You were in the kitchen. It sounded like you were peeling potatoes.
“Good.” Damian stalked toward the den. Titus ran out of the kitchen, tongue wagging, tail thumbing as he jumped on Jon. Jon laughed, petting him. Damian pursed his lips. “Titus, down.”
Titus obeyed. “It’s okay. He’s a good boy.” Jon laughed when he heard your laugh from the kitchen. Everything in him wanted to go see you, but it would ruin the plan.
Damian hummed and stalked off toward the den. Jon followed with Titus beside him. Bruce was in his armchair, his cast resting on a stool. The Kents were on the couch. The conversation was light. Bruce was even smiling slightly. Jon let out the breath he didn’t know he was holding. Maybe this wouldn’t be so bad?
“TT, Father, are you comfortable?” Damian went to Bruce and stood beside him. He folded his arms, glaring slightly. Jon blinked. Maybe Damian knew something was up? He swallowed hard and took a seat next to Clark. Jon’s stomach flip flopped. He felt like a bomb was ticking down in the room and he had to sit and wait for it.
After a few minutes of just the parents talking, Steph, Cass, Tim, Kon, and Jason walked into the room all together. They were all smiling oddly. Steph gave Jon a big wink. Jon flinched and blushed when he saw Damian’s frown at the sight.
“Hey Mr. Lane,” Steph teased, taking a seat on the floor by the Christmas tree. “Mrs. Lane.”
Clark just hummed. Lois kissed his cheek. Cass joined Steph by the tree. Tim, Kon, and Jason sat on the other couch. Jason put his feet up and smirked over at Jon. Jon narrowed his eyes. He hoped they wouldn’t give it away. Damian was watching his siblings with suspicion already.
“Merry Christmas, everyone,” Alfred said. He stepped into the room with a tray of appetizers, coffee, and hot chocolate. Clark got up to help.
“Aww, you must be (Y/N),” Lois said suddenly. Jon jumped to his feet, spun to find you behind Alfred with another tray. His heart fluttered as you smiled. You were wearing a red sweater that looked amazing on you.
He shot forward to take the tray from you. “Let me help.”
“Thank you.” Your eyes sparkled. Jon lost himself in them until someone cleared their throat. Your eyes widened along with Jon’s as you both turned to look at the rest of the family. Damian and Bruce were frowning while everyone else just smiled knowingly.
“We’re dead,” you said under your breath, biting your lip as Damian tensed. Jon saw Damian connecting the dots.
“Trust in the plan,” Jon whispered back. He walked over to set the tray on the coffee table.
You stayed by the door. Jon took his seat again. Lois patted his knee and leaned closer. “You blew it, sweetheart,” she whispered. Jon swallowed hard.
Dick came in with a third tray with Barbara right behind him. He stopped when he saw you huddled by the door, Damian and Bruce’s stony expressions and everyone else’s knowing looks. “What’s going on?” Dick asked. Barbara hushed him.
Damian looked from Jon to you several times. Jon kept his eyes on you. He hated the scared look in your eye. Slowly, Jon stood back up. The room went silent as Jon walked back to you.
“Let’s just do it. He’s going to figure it out in a sec anyway.” Jon took your hand. Your lips trembled, squeezing his hand like he was your lifeline. He kissed the back of your hand. He heard a few ‘aww’s and ‘ooo’s behind him.
“No...my sister?!” Damian snapped. Jon stepped slightly in front of you to take the hit of a hot coffee cup against his chest. It shattered. Jon felt the heat from the coffee soaking into his clothes. “You mean all this time?! That harlot you were talking about constantly was my sister?!”
Jon bit his lip. “Well, yeah, but to be fair, I didn’t know she was your sister.” He held up his hands as Damian grabbed another cup. Alfred clicked his tongue and took the cup from Damian’s grasp. The others were watching like it was the finale of their favorite series. Your entire body shook, pressing yourself against Jon’s back.
“How didn’t you know?! Her name is (Y/N)?! You have seen her pictures?!” Damian stomped toward Jon. Luckily, Clark stepped into his path.
“Calm down, Damian. I can vouch that neither of them knew who each other were until yesterday,” Clark said, putting his hands on Damian’s shoulders.
“You’ve seen pictures of me?” you said to Jon, peeking over his shoulder.
“I must have.” He bit his lip, racking his brain. Maybe? Then again, you were probably too beautiful in person that a photo wouldn’t have done you justice. He looked at Bruce. Bruce’s expression hadn’t changed.
“Damian, I love her,” Jon said when Damian jerked away from Clark. Jon’s eyes flickered to Bruce. “Like a lot.”
You stepped out from behind Jon. “And I love him.” Slowly you walked past Damian and went to Bruce’s side. “You’re not mad, are you, Dad?”
Bruce looked at you. Jon swore he saw Bruce’s lips twitch. A lump formed in Jon’s throat. “Damian, relax. I understand this is a shock, but keep your head,” Bruce said, focusing on Damian before turning back to you. “As long as you’re happy and he treats you well, I will be fine.”
Damian crossed his arms, huffing before storming out of the room with Titus behind him. Jon watched him go and sighed. He knew Damian would need to cool off before he could patch things up.
“Wait a minute? Did everyone know, but me?” Dick asked the room after he saw no one else was startled by the news.
“Sorry, Dickhead, but you can’t keep a secret,” Jason said, laughing when Dick pressed his hand against his heart like he had been shot. The tension eased in the room, everyone laughing and teasing. Everyone began to drink and eat. Alfred slipped out of the room and came back with a broom and dustpan to clean the glass on the floor.
Jon knelt down to hold the dustpan for him. “Thank you, Mr. Kent,” Alfred said.
You appeared at Jon’s side. “We should change your shirt. It’s going to stain,” you said. Jon looked down. He grinned, having forgotten about it.
“Probably.” He let you take his hand. Alfred raised an eyebrow as you both slipped out of the room. “You know this probably isn’t a good idea for us to go off by ourselves.”
“We’ll be fine.” You smirked at him, leading him upstairs and toward a bedroom he had never really noticed before. It was across from Damian’s. Jon felt so dumb. There was a sign with your name on the door. How could he not have noticed?
Your room was clean and was very much you. Jon hummed, stopping to look at the photos on your wall. Most were of the family, but there were a few with people he didn’t know. He wondered if you had a photo of him to put up now that the secret was out.
“Here.” You came from your closet with a shirt. “This is one of Dick’s old shirts that he gave me. I usually sleep in it, but...well, it’s clean.” You handed him the shirt. A slight blush came to your cheeks. “I’ll put your shirt to soak in my sink. We should be able to get the stain out if we act now.”
Jon took off his shirt, smirking when he caught you staring. “Thank, babe.”
You snorted, shaking your head. “I missed you.” You stepped forward and placed a kiss on his lips. Jon melted, drinking in your scent, the softness of your lips against his. Your hands rested on his chest. The warmth of your hands made him shiver.
“I missed you too.” Jon smiled, pulling away when he heard several heavy footsteps on the stairs. He heard them stop by Damian’s room to collect him. “I think your brothers are coming to give me the shovel talk.”
You groaned, rolling your eyes as you took his soiled shirt. He slipped on the clean shirt, loving that it smelled like the laundry detergent you always used. “I can’t stop them. I promised Jason and Tim that they could if we had their support.”
Jon bit his lip, listening to some chuckles from your brothers. “I’ll see you at dinner. Don’t worry.”
“I’m not.” You kissed his lips again just as your brothers knocked on your door. “They know I love you, so they wouldn’t kill you.”
“Well, I wouldn’t say that.” Jon hugged you tight before letting you go. You sighed and opened your door. Jason looked gleeful, Tim seemed bored, Dick was worried, while Damian had a particular devious look about him. “So, I know you want to talk to me,” Jon said, sending you a wink. You frowned slightly. “But you’ll have to catch me first.” Jon ran toward your window, opening it smoothly and flying out.
Over the shouts of your brothers, Jon heard you laughing. It was best sound he had ever heard and one he wanted to hear for all the Christmases to come.

Gren x GN!Reader NSFW Headcanons
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your comments are delicious >:)
I may have made Grenny boy a little too ooc, my bad
🌙 He's the type to act like a sleeze but he's a pretty caring guy. He doesn't show his emotions on his sleeve at all, and you might not even think he's flirting with you at first, but he is. Gren grew up with tough love in an even tougher environment, but he tries his best. He does have a heart, after all mama's boy, Beowulf didn't extinguish that shit centuries ago.
🌙 However, when he's had a few drinks, he's very forward about what he wants. He's a big fan of leaning against the bar and openly flirting with you like that. He tries to be a gentleman sometimes if he's feeling like it, offering to buy you a few drinks here and there while he butchers pick-up lines like crazy.
🌙 He's the type to be a sloppy kisser. It doesn't matter if he's sober or drunk, things get a little messy. He's a man starved for attention, and you're the kind soul that's gonna give it to him. He's very physical with his kisses, almost always turning it into a makeout session where his hands travel all across your body, eventually leading him right to your sex where he loves to tease.
🌙 He loves making out in the elevator on your way to either of your apartments. Just the build-up alone is enough to get this man rock hard. He's very eager to let you know that is, too, grinding against your backside while his hands trace down your torso as you try to unlock the door.
🌙 He has such a filthy mouth. I hope you like degration and dirty talk, because this man is dishing it out. He says it all in this deep and gravelly voice that sends little electrical pulses right into your sex that it makes your head spin. He even tops some it off with a sickly sweet little pet name to hook you in.
🌙 Loves rough sex. If the headboard ain't knocking, he's not going fast enough. He may be one thin as fuck guy, but under that glamour is a big hulking beast with a firey sex drive.
🌙 He's done it with numerous other fables, even before having to flee the Homelands. He's seen it all, though trolls tend to rank higher on his list. He loves the idea of both of you dropping your glamours for the night and fucking like wild animals, but the fragility of the bed, as well as the rest of the apartment, often stops you both.
🌙 Please be careful of his bad arm. The scar is very much still there and there are often times where it gives out under the weight he puts on it to fuck you senseless. He loves nothing more than for you to massage it afterwards and leave tender little kisses on it. Try not to dig your nails in too much on that one side.
🌙 One of his favorite things to do is to partially drop his glamour enough for that tongue to come out. He loves lapping and licking at your sex with that big, long, wet tongue of his. He makes eye contact the entire time, and if you even think about looking away, he barely grazes his teeth over your sensitive skin to really get your attention.
🌙 He's very much a dom. He doesn't dislike the idea of being submissive with you, he just doesn't feel comfortable yet. The last time someone dominated him, it ended with him dead in some Danish swamp, so...
🌙 He loves deepthroating you. He loves nothing more than to knot his fingers in your hair and face-fuck you until he cums right down your throat. Just the noises alone are enough to get him in the mood. He loves to drag you up by your hair and shoulders and then kiss you, loving how he tastes in your mouth.
🌙 He's not ashamed to lose control, just a little ashamed of the mess that comes with it. He loves the power, but feels guilty about the dents he leaves in the walls from making the headboard bang against it so much. It's lead him to come up with some interesting ideas on how and where to fuck you.
🌙 One of those thoughts being in a crowded bar. He wants nothing more than to take you in some secluded little corner and make it look like you're just sitting in his lap or something when really he's just slipping his dick in you and you both have to play it cool.
🌙 Or fucking in the back of the Trip Trap when Holly is busy up front. The stock room is dark and tight and he loves the feeling of being so close and cramped with you that he has to pin you to the wall and all. Being so close leaves so little to the imagination when it's pressed right up against you.
🌙 He loves to sext, especially when you're at work and he's not. He always turns up the heat to the point he sends you a picture of what he's doing, but it's very obvious what the out-of-focus thing is at the bottom of the picture.
🌙 But if you sext him while he's out? Prepare that ass because you're not gonna get any sleep all night long. Teasing him while he's out is a very dangerous game, and Gren subscribes to the term of: Play stupid game win stupid prizes, and you're definitely gonna get fucked stupid.
🌙 He takes all of the complaints from neighbors with a stupid and very cocky grin on his face. Even when you're ducking your head down to hide your embarrassment, he's proud as hell. He's teasing you about it later.
🌙 Definitely the type to smoke a cigarette after sex. He always offers you one, too. If you're not a smoker and you're not too keen on cigarette smoke staining your walls and smelling up your sheets, he takes it outside. Whether it's a small patio you have, the fire escape or just fully opening a window, he's smoking a cigarette. And he will walk out fully nude with his dick out and all, he has no shame.

March 2014
It had been a month since the dance, and since Josh and you had officially become a couple. Throughout the month, Josh has been nothing but sweet. Leaving you little notes in your locker, doing the same in return. It was hard only having one class together, so you were only able to see each other during lunch and poetry.
You spent most weeknights together and spent every weekend together - whether you were at his place, or he came over to your house. You had been helping him more on his film as it finally completed and you both were getting ready to present it to everyone you cared deeply about.
“Sunshine! Can you hand me the hard drive please?” He turned towards you, as you grabbed the hard drive, placing it in his hand.
“This film came out really well Josh.” You smiled softly, kissing his cheek.
“Couldn’t have done it without your help mama.”A blush crept on his face as he chuckled softly.
“So my family is going to come over Friday night to watch the film with all of us.” You smiled nervously.
Your dad always thought the film dream you had was silly, but you truly had a passion for it like Josh had. And it often resulted in arguments with your father. You had applied to different colleges for a filming and photography degree. With Josh’s help of course, he had applied to most of the colleges you did too.
“Has your dad said anything…” He trailed off, unsure about how to go with the conversation.
“Well we didn’t argue if that’s what you’re trying to ask.”
He stood up wrapping his arms around you in a hug. “He’ll eventually see how important film is to you. You’re going to be amazing.” He smiled, kissing your lips softly.
You kissed him back, then pulled away slowly hugging him tightly before parting away.
“Come on, we should probably head out to the garage. Jake wants to get another practice in order to be ready for Saturday’s gig.” He rubbed your arm.
You nodded, following behind him out to the garage. You opted on sitting on the couch, sitting next to Valerie - the girl Jake had recently started going steady with.
“Hey!” You smiled softly at her,
“Hey Y/N! Are you excited for Saturday?” She shifted her attention towards you.
“Yeah, this will be the first gig I see them perform. It’ll be a very different atmosphere.” You rubbed your hands together.
You and Val had sat there watching the guys play a couple songs from their setlist they had made up. Josh always made you proud no matter what he did, but seeing him perform with his brothers was something else.
Tumblr media
The week had gone by, and Friday was here already. Your poetry class felt longer than usual today, Josh and yourself sat in the back of the classroom. Mr.Zawalski had wanted to finish the film Beowulf, so you and Josh decided to just watch the film as you wrote notes back and forth to each other.
Is your family still planning on joining us tonight?
Yeah, but my dad has been in a mood the past few days. :(
It’s okay, he’ll open up eventually. I think this film will show him. :)
I’m just glad I have your support <3
Of course Sunny, always <3
Then Mr.Zawalski turned the lights on in the classroom, causing everyone to groan from the harsh lighting adjustment. You folded your note between you and Josh stashing it into your folder.
“Do you want a ride home?” He smiled at you,
“If it’s not an issue, I don’t want Jake getting his panties in a bunch like the other week.” You giggled remembering them bickering about practice.
“He can suck it. I just don’t want my baby to ride the bus.” He smiled, wrapping an arm around your shoulder, walking over to your locker to gather your things to head home.
“Josh…”
“What’s the matter Sunny?”
You melted at his nickname for you. It always drove you crazy, no matter what.
“I just. I’m really worried about my dad’s reaction. Especially because I think I’ve decided on where to go for college…” You walked out to his car with him, Jake hadn’t gotten to the car yet.
“I know how much his support means to you Y/N… And I want you to know that you will not disappoint him. Just show him how much this means to you.” He rubbed your shoulders.
“And you not only have your mom and sister’s support, but you have mine, the guys, my sister and even my parents.” He chuckled softly, caressing your cheek.
“Sometimes I feel like I’m making the wrong choices…” You put your head down in his hand.
He lifts your face up to meet his gaze. He pushes a piece of your hair behind your ear.
“Sunshine, you’re not making the wrong choices. You’re following your heart. And that is most important.”
He smiled, leaning forward and placing his lips against yours softly.
“Can we go?”
You two pulled away to see the voice coming from Jake, leaned up against the car chuckling softly as he watched the scene in front of him.
You blushed and nodded, getting into the passenger seat. While Jake sat in the back and Josh got in the driver's side.
Josh then dropped you off at home, after reassuring him you would be at his house later to watch the film you both worked on. Walking into the house, you could hear the television playing the news as your father sits in his normal spot on the couch, staring at the tv intently. Your mother on the other hand was finishing up the days work of cleaning the house, while your sister sat in the living room doing her homework while trying to ignore the sounds of the tv.
Walking into the mud room you set your things down, taking your shoes off and walking into the living room sitting down.
“Hi pumpkin.” Your dad smiled at you softly.
“Hi dad, how was your day?” You smiled bringing your knees up to your chest wrapping your arms around them.
“Oh it was good, how was your day?” He turned the volume of the TV down.
“It was good…” You smiled softly,
“What time must we be at the Kiszka’s tonight?”
“Josh wants to start the film at 7. It’s about an hour long…” You chewed the inside of your cheek nervously.
“An hour? Wow… I’m impressed.” Your father replied in a sarcastic tone.
“Yeah. It was going to only be a 30 minute film. But Josh had insisted on using an idea of mine to the film and extend it.” You placed your feet, getting ready to stand.
“Pumpkin… I just. I don’t know-“
“Honey! Someone is on the phone for you.” Your mom yelled for your dad, giving you the chance to leave the room.
You felt tears at the brim of your eyes. You had decided to take a shower, to make yourself feel somewhat better and get ready for tonight.
Tumblr media
It was around quarter to 7 and your family was ready to head over to Josh’s. You had packed a small bag, considering you would be staying the night to help the guys tomorrow for their gig.
Your sister and yourself got in the back of you dad’s pick up, as your mom got into the passenger side. Your dad drove off to make the way to the Kiszka’s.
Upon arriving your dad had gotten out, helping your mom out of the truck while you and your sister followed behind them. Your father knocked on the door, and Kelly had answered it. “Hey! Welcome, come on in. Karen is finishing up making drinks and getting popcorn ready.” He motioned for everyone to file in.
You had immediately made way to Ronnie’s room setting your bag in there to make your parents aware you would in fact not be staying in Josh’s room tonight. Not that it would matter, since you would be sleeping in the basement anyways.
Walking out of Ronnie’s room you ran into Josh - making him fall back a couple of inches from the sudden impact.
“Oh, sunny. You scared me.” He chuckled, clenching his chest.
“I’m sorry Joshy…” You giggled, grabbing his hand rubbing circles.
“It’s okay mama.” He smiled, kissing your cheek.
“Josh… I don’t think he’s going to like it. He was ready to go on about how film isn’t a good career choice…” You sighed.
“Y/N. You are going to be amazing. Don’t let one person’s judgment dictate your dream.”
He caressed your cheek looking into your eyes - giving you one of his most reassuring smiles he could muster.
“If anything, only you can judge your choices. No one else.”
“Thank you… Thank you for being so understanding about everything.” You sighed feeling a little bit of relief, grabbing the hand that rested on your cheek, squeezing it gently.
“Now come on, we have a film to show.” He giggled dragging you downstairs to the living room with him.
You opted to sit on the loveseat with Josh, while your parents sat on the big couch with Karen and Kelly. Everyone else made themselves comfy on the floor or pulled a folding chair from the closet.
Josh had held your hand the entire time while the film played. Rubbing circles into your hand to keep you calm as he could tell you were tense from what your father would think of your work.
Once the film had finished everyone in the room was cheering and clapping on the film. You smiled, hugging Josh tightly.
“My god, you kids are going places!” Karen shot up from the couch hugging both you and Josh.
“Thank you mom.” Josh smiled at her,
“Thank you Mrs. Kiszka. It means a lot.” You smiled softly, looking over her shoulder to see your parents making their way.
“Sweetie, you are absolutely brilliant. Amazing work to both of you.” Your mom smiled, pulling you and Josh in for a hug.
“I’m proud of you pumpkin. You as well Josh.” He smiled, sticking his hand out to shake Josh’s hand.
The two of them shake each other’s hands smiling back at one another. Kelly had chimed in congratulating the two of you on your work. Then you had walked your family out to the truck to say goodnight before heading back into Josh’s.
“Thank you guys for coming and watching it. It really means a lot to me.” You smiled softly.
“Sweetie, you will always have our support. No matter what!” Your mom kissed your cheek, hugging you tightly.
“I still think you should reconsider your major…” You dad put out flatly, giving you a deadpan look to show that he wasn’t budging about this matter.
“Dad…” You groan,
“Y/N… I just. I want you to be realistic here. How many directors or filmmakers are successful right away?”
“Just say you don’t believe in me dad. It would hurt a lot less…” You felt the tears forming in your eyes.
“It’s not that I don’t be-“
“Really! Cause it sure seems like it… All my life I was trying to figure out who I truly am and what I want to do with my life. And the moment I do, it's not good enough for you! I’ve always done everything to make you happy dad, it’s my time to do what makes me happy…” You spit out at your father as you wiped the tears away that spilled out of your eyes.
“Y/N, we will continue this discussion at another time.” He said sternly.
“No, I’m tired of discussing this. I’ve made up my mind of what I’m doing with my life. Whether I have your support or not…” You turned on your heels,
“I’ll be home Sunday afternoon…” You then walked into Josh’s house shutting the door behind you.
Running to the guest bathroom, locking yourself in there quietly crying to yourself - until you heard a soft knock.
“Sunshine…”
“I’ll be out in a minute…” You sighed softly.
“I’ll get us some hot chocolate, okay?” He said through the door.
“Okay…”
You heard him shuffle away, as you turned to look at yourself in the mirror - wiping away the tears that were there. You resituated yourself making your way to the kitchen.
“You okay mama?” Josh was finishing up making the two of you hot chocolate.
You nodded, “I’ll be okay.” You smiled at him as he handed you a mug.
“You can talk about it whenever you want. Not now, but whenever you’re ready.” He smiled and kissed your forehead softly.
Tumblr media
Morning came pretty quickly, and was filled with absolute chaos. The guys ran around making sure they had everything they needed for tonight's gig. Going over setlists, and making sure everyone’s gear was in tip top shape.
“Jake everything is loaded up. It’s going to be fine!” Josh pinched the bridge of his nose.
“You don’t tell me that everything is going to be fine. This is the first real gig we have! This is the start. This is my dream!” He yelled at him.
“Really Jacob? It’s not just your dream.” He threw his hands up,
“I didn’t mean it like that…” He sighed,
“I understand how important this is to you Jake. I really do. But you need to loosen up, being all tense and worried doesn’t make things better for yourself.” He patted his shoulder.
“You’re right, I’m sorry… It’s just. I don’t want this to affect how we go about this road…” He rubbed his face.
“If it makes you feel any better, Val will be there!” You chimed in, smiling softly.
Jake chuckled, nodding his head. “Yeah, that does…”
You smiled softly, dragging Josh with you. “Listen, I know you guys are going to be amazing tonight. And you’re going to kill it!”
Josh smiled as a blush crept up on his face. “Thank you, sunny…”
“Anytime Joshy…” You giggled, kissing his lips softly.
Tumblr media
Jake suggested he drive over to Fischer Hall, while Val sat in the front and you and Josh sat in the back. Sam and Danny had rode over with Kelly and Karen, with Danny’s parents to follow them.
You all arrived about an hour before they would start so they had time to set up, and get everything in tune before the show started for them.
After everyone was settled, people had started to come into the small venue. You offered smiles to the guys.
“You guys are going to be great.” You hugged them all, then once you made it to Josh a blush crept onto your cheeks.
“You guys act like you never kiss in front of us…” Sam started laughing with Danny.
“Shut it Sammy.” Josh snipped at him, then turned towards you smiling, kissing your lips softly. You kissed him back then pulled away.
“Break a leg handsome.” You giggled softly.
Josh chuckled and went with the guys onto the stage. They lit the room up with their presence making everyone cheer them on.
You sat by the parents with Val - cheering the guys on with them.
After they performed a couple songs they finished their small set. Getting a great response afterwards makes your smile widen. You saw Josh coming over to you all flustered.
“That was amazing!” You giggled.
“It was exhilarating.” He chuckled, “Let me help the guys clean up and we can get out of here.” He smiled and ran off to help the guys.
April 2014
The twins' birthday was coming up on Wednesday. But Karen wanted to throw them a party this weekend, since they were turning 18. She had stressed how important it was that her babies have a great party, and one to remember. You have been helping out in any way.
It was hard to keep it a secret from Josh, you hated to keep secrets. But this one was just for a surprise party - so one secret wouldn’t hurt.
It was Tuesday the day before the twins' 18th birthday. Josh has been completely asking you all the questions about what you had planned. And of course you had to tell him he would have to wait and see.
“But sunny…” He groaned, walking to your locker with you.
“No ‘buts’ Josh. I’m not saying another word about your birthday.”
You opened your locker, seeing a bouquet of flowers and a note - blushing, you picked up the note reading….
To my sunshine, will you go to prom with me?
You turned to Josh, “Yes.”
He smiled, pulling you in for a hug kissing your lips.
“I know it's a month away… And I should’ve asked sooner.”
You stopped him, “Josh, it’s okay. I’ve had my dress since the beginning of the month.” You giggled softly.
“Oh, okay… I guess that's some relief.” He laughed nervously.
“And I think my mom may have already sent your mom what I was wearing. So I think they already had an idea that we would be going together.” You shook your head at their antics.
“I’m glad they’re ahead of it.” He kissed your cheek.
“I’ll see you later mama.” He winked and made his way to his morning class.
Tumblr media
It was finally Josh and Jake’s birthday, you all decided on skipping school and going on a hike. Classes lately haven't been filled with many lessons considering you graduate in the beginning of June. And missing a day wouldn’t hurt, you just wouldn’t let your parents find out.
You all made it look like you were heading to school, but changed route and went towards where the boys family lake house was. Once arriving you had gotten out of the car, looking at the house.
“She is something…” Josh came up beside you chuckling.
“I’ve never seen anything like it.”.
“We like to come up and get away… Helps us get creative, or just to clear our minds. But we spend most of our summer days here.” He rubbed your arm.
“Well, I’m sure it’s lovely. But I’d really like to get on this trail that Jake and you were talking about.” You kissed his cheek softly.
He shook his head and walked over to Jake grabbing his gear. You did the same, tightening your laces to your shoes, and putting your bag on your back.
“So how long is this trail exactly Jake?” You stood up, soaking in the fresh air.
“About 2 miles, so a 4 mile hike today.” He smirked at you.
“But the view is nice when we get to the end of the trail. See’s over the lake and everything.” Josh chimed in.
“You might just have to carry me on the way back down.” You giggled grabbing the small lunch bag.
They both started walking on the trail, following in between them. Jake played music from his bluetooth speaker. The trail was pretty flat for most of the first half, then the other half the trail got a bit uneven and mainly stones created a path.
You felt absolutely winded, it wasn’t exactly hot out. But the temperature today was enough to make you sweat from the hike. You were a little behind Jake and Josh, it's not like you grew up in an environment to partake in hiking trips. But you wanted to spend time with both of them.
“Y/N, you alright back there?” Jake turned around, smiling softly.
“I’m okay, this is just new for me. I’m not like you monkeys…” You giggled softly.
“We’re almost there, sunny.” Josh came down beside you, rubbing your back.
“Just drink some water.” He pulled out a water bottle and opened it for you.
“Thank you…” You smiled softly, taking a couple sips from the bottle, closing it up and following them the rest of the way.
Once you made it to the end of the trail, there was an overpass that looked over the lake. It was beautiful, Josh wasn’t lying.
You set your bag down pulling out the big blanket to set on the ground, and pulled out the sandwiches you made for them. Handing them out, they smiled and said their thanks munching away. You sat down eating away at yours.
After finishing your sandwiches you had pulled out a small cake that you somehow managed to fit in the cooler. You pulled it out putting some candles lighting them, walking over to the twins.
“Happy Birthday to you!” You giggled softly.
They both sat up smiling, then blew the candles out.
“Thank you, Y/N!” Jake smiled,
“Thank you, sunny.” Josh blushed smiling softly, he kissed your cheek.
“Of course! I don’t know what I’d do without you guys.” You sighed softly, setting the cake on top of the cooler, cutting slices up for them.
Jake then pulled out a joint that was pre-rolled. “Shall we?”
Josh nodded timidly, “That depends….did you actually get some good shit for once?”
“The shit that knocks you on your ass? Yes, yes I did.” Jake chuckled, lighting it up. He took a couple puffs before passing it along to Josh.
Josh took a couple hits, then passed it to you. “You don’t have to if you don’t want to.” He smiled softly.
“I do, I just… Never have…” You looked down ashamed of yourself.
“Hey, it’s alright. All you do is place it between your lips, inhale a little then exhale.” He handed you the joint.
You nodded your head, doing as he said. You exhaled, and coughed a good bit as Jake grabbed the joint from you.
“She’s a champ!” He chuckled softly, patting your shoulder.
“Woohoo sunny!” Josh smiled, kissing your cheek.
Tumblr media
Saturday came, and you had opted to take Josh out for brunch to get him out of the house for his mom to set up for the party. Jake was already out with Val for the morning and early afternoon, making it easier for her to decorate the house.
“So what does Sunshine have planned for me today?” Josh chuckled as he buckled himself in the car.
“Brunch, maybe a little walk around downtown? And then cake at your place.” You smiled at him as you buckled yourself, putting the car in gear to drive.
Josh took over the aux in the car, immediately playing his playlist. He started off by playing John Denver’s Sunshine On My Shoulder. You gave him a look, shaking your head slowly.
“Oh come on sunny!” He grabbed your hand and kissed it softly.
“It’s a song I can dedicate to you now, until I write a good one about you…”
“You’ll write me a song…” You blushed,
“I’d write you a million…” He smiled softly, then began belting out to the song.
Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high
If I had a day that I could give you
I’d give you a day just like today
If I had a song that I could sing for you
I’d sing a song to make you feel this way
The drive to downtown was nice and filled with laughter and singing. Josh’s voice always blew you away, he was just a beautiful person to be with.
You stopped by a local diner, heading in to sit at a booth. The two of you had ordered your favorites, and ate in bliss. Enjoying each other’s time with one another, after brunch. You two decided to walk around downtown. It was only 2pm and you have another hour and a half to kill before making your way back to the Kiszka’s.
While walking downtown Josh pointed out a record shop, pleading you to go in with him.
“Okay! But we can’t spend the whole day here.” You giggled as he was practically dragging you in.
He chuckled, walking into the store with you. It was a pretty big store with a wide collection to choose from.
You went to the disco section, immediately searching for a copy of ABBA’s self title. It was the only edition you needed to complete your collection. You had all their other pressings available, but every time you went searching you had no luck finding it.
And to your avail, there is no self title available. You sighed, looking over the rest of the selection of great disco vinyls.
“What’s wrong, sunny?” Josh came up behind you rubbing your arm.
“Still no luck in finding the self title of ABBA…” You groaned looking up at him.
“We’ll find it one day.” He chuckled softly, kissing the top of your head.
You nodded and made way to find a couple records for him, you had already had his gift wrapped up and in your car. But another gift of two wouldn’t be an issue, you thought to yourself as you grabbed two of what would definitely be Josh’s favorites.
You had checked out with a pressing of An Evening with John Denver and a pressing of Port of Morrow by The Shins. Josh had a very interesting music taste, and you loved that about him. He was always showing you different indie artists, as you showed him your favorite rock artists.
After having a successful shopping spree in the record shop, it was finally time to head back to the Kiszka’s.
“Come on Josh!” You smiled, watching him check out.
“So what did ya get?” Josh whispered in your ear, coming up behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist. Holding you flush against his chest.
“You’ll see later.” You smiled softly, getting into the car and heading back to his place.
Tumblr media
When the two of you had arrived, Jake and Val had pulled up too. Perfect timing you thought to yourself. You gathered the small gifts you had for both Josh and Jake. Heading to the door with them.
You let the twins enter the house first, hearing everyone yell ‘Surprise!’ and ‘Happy Birthday!’ The twins chuckled, smiling softly at everyone present.
“Thank you everyone!” They said in unison.
You came in behind them with Val. “Did you know about this?” Josh asked you, smirking.
“I may have helped your mom…” You giggled softly.
For the next hour or two, everyone was socializing and eating. Karen knew how to make a feast for any special occasions. You truly enjoyed her cooking, in fact you found it better than your mothers.
You handed Jake his gift, allowing him to open it. He unwrapped it, revealing a Jimi Hendrix ‘Are You Experienced’ vinyl.
“Holy shit! Are you serious Y/N! Thank you!” He smiled and gave you a hug.
“It’s nothing, really.” You smiled softly, hugging him back.
“It’s not nothing! This is very thoughtful, thank you.” He then went back to sit next to Val opening her gift.
Josh then pulled you into the basement, away from everyone. You smiled, handing him his gifts sitting on the couch next to him.
“Happy Birthday, Joshy…” You blushed watching him go through the shopping bag from today’s finds.
“Sunshine! These are great!” He smiled, then went to grab the one that was wrapped.
“This one was a little bit harder to find… I’m not going to lie, but you kept talking about it. And I just had to deep dive…” You chewed your lip nervously.
His eyes lit up, as he tore the wrapping paper off. Revealing an original pressing of John Denver’s self title. Josh hadn’t been able to find a copy at all, and it was driving him nearly insane.
“Y/N… This…” He smiled looking at you, placing it on the table in front of the two of you.
He cupped your face in his hands kissing your lips softly.
“I love you…”
He said it. He said it first… You had been worried to have said it too soon, or too late. But, right now was the perfect time for it to have happened. You felt your stomach flutter from his words.
“I love you too…” You giggled, kissing his lips softly again.
May 2014
Prom was here. And to say you were stressed, was an understatement. You had recently completed your admission to Michigan State University after discussing with Josh your plans for the future. He was beyond excited for you and had also enrolled into Michigan State.
The two of you would be pursuing the same degree, therefore you would have pretty much the same courses. You were happy that you wouldn’t be completely alone at college, and that you would have someone you know there.
All morning you had been waiting to get your hair done, then your makeup to follow suit after your hair was done. Your mother was making sure everything for your senior prom was going smoothly. Even though you had reassured her multiple times that you were okay and everything was fine.
Hoping she isn’t like this for your wedding one day…
After leaving the salon, you headed back home to finish getting ready. All that was left was the dress. It was absolutely stunning - opting for a print color, you had decided on a sky blue gown.
It was strapless and flowed beautifully, though it wasn’t a ball gown, but it stood out from most dresses that were available for this prom season.
You slipped it on, then put your heels on. Looking at yourself in the mirror, putting on your necklace and earrings. Giving yourself a final touch up on your lipstick, then making your way down stairs.
Your mother was at the bottom of the steps, waiting for you to take you to the golf course where Josh and his family would meet you to take pictures together. You had wished Josh could’ve picked you up beforehand, but didn’t want to cause an argument.
As you were heading out the door, your father followed behind helping you into the car making sure your dress didn’t get caught in the door. You smiled buckling yourself, as your parents drove to the course.
Once you had arrived, you got out meeting Josh and his family. Along with Jake and Val’s family, it was a beautiful sunny day for prom. Most cases it had rained on prom for others in the past, but today it didn’t.
“You look extravagant sunshine!” Josh smiled, holding your hands in his kissing your cheek softly.
“You don’t look too bad yourself.” You giggled softly, then Karen came over handing Josh and you, the corsage and boutonniere set. It was white rose assortment again, like it was for the Valentine’s dance. You giggled softly remembering that night.
“What is it, sunny?” Josh smiled as he slipped the corsage on your wrist.
“Just remembering our first dance together…” You blushed, as you helped pin his boutonniere to his tux. He smiled, and kissed your cheek softly.
“Alright kiddos! Come on, time to get some pictures of you all.” Karen smiled, getting her digital camera out, your mother did the same.
The two of them kept taking pictures, in front of the ponds, the trees, the garden. You name it. You were already exhausted and the fun of the evening hadn’t even started.
“Mom, I think that's enough pictures…” Jake groaned, fidgeting with his tie.
“Oh alright! I just can’t believe my babies will be graduating in two weeks!” Karen cried out teary eyed, as the twins pulled her into a hug.
Tumblr media
Prom was what you expected it to be. Another dance in which everyone dressed to impress. The only thing that made it sentimental was that it was the last dance for your class. Sure you only had a handful of friends, but you were all going to different schools and some were even moving out of state to pursue their dreams.
Jake had gotten invited to an after party, inviting you and Josh to join him. In which the two of you couldn’t turn down. But before heading over to the after party you had stopped home to change into a more party-like fit, and an overnight bag to stay the night at Josh’s.
Your parents had been more lenient about you staying over at Josh’s considering they trusted him and yourself. But they also knew that they couldn't necessarily control your life as much, as you were turning 18 right after graduation.
Pulling up to the party, Josh and you had driven over with Jake. Val couldn’t join as she had cheer practice in the morning for her upcoming competition. The house was a lakehouse that wasn’t too far from the Kiszka's lakehouse. It was about the same size, maybe a tad bit bigger.
But after all it was Gabe Sanders throwing the party - his parents were loaded with money. The house was filled with probably the entire senior class, and anyone who attended the prom. The music was loud, there was alcohol everywhere. Definitely a different vibe then what you were used to.
“It’s gonna be alright Y/N, it's our senior year after all! And besides I’m sure we’ll go to some college parties.” Josh chuckled softly, rubbing your waist to comfort you.
“I don’t know, I guess it’s just because I’ve never really attended parties like this before.” You quipped walking into the house.
The scene in front of your eyes was like straight out of a movie. People were crowded everywhere, red solo cups in everyone’s hands. Couples lounged together not caring that people saw them hooking up. You made your way to the kitchen with Josh, as he got you a cup of Tequila Soda.
Josh had been around alcohol more frequently than you, so he already had an easy drink to go for. You smiled softly as he handed you a cup, taking a sip you felt the alcohol run down your throat feeling the burning sensation.
“It’s good isn’t it!” Josh smiled softly,
“I’ll manage.” You giggled softly, as he threw his arm around your shoulder.
The rest of the night Josh and you had a couple drinks, definitely now under the influence. He decided to take you to a bedroom upstairs.
Josh and you hadn’t even gotten past 2nd base yet - it’s not that you weren’t ready to take the next step, you just were scared of what he wanted as well. It’s a topic the two of you haven’t generally come across yet. But in the end you knew that when the time was right, it would happen.
The two of you giggled as you made way to the bedroom, kissing and whispering sweet nothings to each other. The two of you sat on the edge of the bed unsure of what to do next. Nervous as all ever, Josh rubbed your shoulder reassuringly.
You smiled and pressed your lips against his, deepening the kiss with him. His hands rubbed your waist, while your hands were tangled in his hair.
Then you heard a floorboard creek,
“Oh my god!” You knew that cracky voice from anywhere.
“What the hell Sam! How did you even get into this party?!” Josh turned away from you, shifting his attention towards his little brother.
“Because the older ladies love me Joshua…” He wiggled his eyebrows.
Josh then picked up a pillow chucking it at Sam.
“Get out Samuel!” His face was beet red.
Sam zipped out of the bedroom, shutting the door on his way out. Josh sighed softly, turning back towards you.
“I’m sorry about that, I should’ve locked the door.” He chuckled nervously.
“It’s okay Josh, really… Besides, I think it's best that our first time isn’t under the influence…” You trailed off, caressing his cheek with your thumb.
He nodded, “You’re absolutely right, sunny… I want our first time to be more meaningful and at a proper setting.” He kissed your cheek softly.
“Come on, we should probably leave soon. Especially before Sam gets into any trouble…”
Josh stood up, putting his hand out for yours. Taking his you intertwine your hands walking downstairs to regroup with Jake and Sam heading back to their place.
June 2014
The last two weeks of school had dragged, it felt longer than usual. But alas, graduation was here. The morning felt absolutely hectic and long, as your mother was frantic on planning your graduation party. Why did she have to have it the same night as graduation, beat you. But you didn’t want to upset her and not have a graduation party.
The assigned seating was based on height, those graduating that were in choir were separate from the rest of the graduating class. Therefore Josh was in the choir section, leaving you and Jake to sit by yourselves. You and Jake were a couple rows away from one another. Then you were next to your good friend Mallory.
The ceremony was a complete bore, talking about how to make sure all the choices you make in life are never taken for granted. And to always remember where you’re from…
Before you knew it, everyone was placing their tassels onto the other side of their caps.
“Congratulations to the 2014 Class of Frankenmuth High!”
The principal smiled, clapping his hands. All of the students threw their caps in the air, catching them afterwards. You found Jake and Josh immediately after the ceremony hugging them tightly.
“Oh sweetie!” Your mom was in tears, flailing her arms to wrap you into a hug. You smiled softly at her, hugging her tightly. Soon after your father engulfed you into a hug.
“Congratulations pumpkin! You’re a high school grad!” He kissed the top of your head.
“Thank you guys…” You smiled softly, going to hug your sister Olivia.
“Congrats sis.” She smiled softly,
“You’re up next…” You giggled, squeezing her more into the hug.
Josh made way back to you after finding his family, he pulled you into a tight hug, kissing your lips softly. You blushed, kissing him back softly in front of everyone, pulling away.
“My mom wanted to get some pictures of all of us.” He chuckled softly.
“What a great idea!” You mother chimed in, standing next to Karen to get pictures of you two and then Jake to join as well.
“Come on now! Smile!” Karen had motioned for you and Josh to pose.
He pulled you by the waist, keeping his hand rested on your hip drawing circles with his thumb. You smiled, placing a hand on his chest taking what seemed like a hundred pictures.
“Alright, one more couple picture then a group picture! Don’t be shy now.” You mother giggled, then Josh and you giggled kissing each other softly for one last photo.
Jake had then joined in, making you stand in the middle like a twin sandwich. You ruffled his hair a bit, fixing his cap and then posed for a couple more pictures that suited both the parents' liking.
“Okay! Can we please go, don’t want to be late to my own graduation party….” You giggled softly.
Your mother gasped, “Oh my god! I almost forgot... Let’s hurry home and get you ready!”
Tumblr media
The graduation party your mother had planned for you went well. Part of your graduating class showed up to join the fun, which included games of cornhole, horseshoe, and some good ole campfire songs.
As the night drew nearer, everyone had left the party leaving you to help clean up with your mother. Josh had also stayed behind to help clean up, where Jake had gone to take Valerie home.
“Thanks for helping…” You smiled, tying up the trash bags.
“Of course sunshine, I’d help anytime.” He flashed a smile at you.
The smile you loved most, when his eyes crinkled and his dimple was visible. You’ve started to notice more little things about him, the things you had grown to love even more about him.
The way he laughed, the way he talked, the way he looked while peacefully sleeping after a long night of band practice. The way his hair rested, just above his shoulders… The way his honey golden brown eyes stole your breath away. He always knew how to make you smile, and how to make you laugh. He wasn’t just any ordinary guy. He was Josh. Josh had become a safe space for you…
And he had no clue how much you loved him… How much you care for him, and how much he meant to you. Josh was like a missing puzzle piece that fit your puzzle to life that you were trying to figure out. And there he was all along.
After taking the trash out to the trash cans, Josh had asked you to go on a drive with him. And which of course you agreed to go.
“Where exactly are we going?” You giggled softly, as he sped off to wherever he had planned.
“Just trust me!” He smiled softly, rubbing your hand with his thumb reassuringly.
A 20 minute drive later, you had pulled up to what seemed to be an abandoned cabin. You got out of the car, waiting for him to join your side.
“You’re not planning on killing me, are you?” You looked at him.
“Now what kind of gentleman would I be to bring you all the way out here to do such a thing.” He chuckled softly, earning a giggle from you.
“So… What’s special about here?” You looked at him questioningly.
“This is where I come to get away and have time for myself… I’ve always been drawn to this location. Whether it's the energy that resides here or whatever higher being is calling to me… I don’t know…” He rubbed the back of his neck nervously.
“Josh…” You placed a hand on his cheek, rubbing it softly. “There is no need to get nervous or shy around me…” You kissed him softly.
He pulled you in closer, kissing your lips back softly.
“I just… I love you, and figured I’d show you a spot that could be ours… and perhaps, one day we can buy this land and make this a cute winter holiday home.” He chuckled nervously.
“Mr. Kiszka wants to get a holiday home with me?” You blushed, poking his chest softly.
“Perhaps one day… When the time is right of course.” He smiled, grasping your hands softly intertwining them. “One day, I’ll make you mine forever…”
“You’re sunshine forever…” You smiled softly, leaning in to kiss him once more.
The start of your summer break had just begun. And there was so much left to experience before starting college. You were nervous to say the least about starting this new chapter in your life. But having Josh by your side helped ease the anxiety. Or would it…

Chapter One//Chapter Two//Chapter Three//Chapter Four
“Now, to our purpose!” Loki announced.
The last servant passed by the food. For breakfast, you learned that Norse Gods enjoyed foods similar to your own- only very hot and hearty. Eggs and thick slices of bread and butter. Not like the overcooked burnt bits your mother tended to make. You began to enjoy some. Though one servant did bring some coffee, especially for you. You smiled up at her and then she bowed and left.
Robert turned his head watching the door close. Then he turned back.
“Are the rumors…true?” Loki asked.
Robert sighed, “Only one of us can confirm that. It’s not my job to snoop around.” He picked up a piece of bread and munched at it.
He turned to Jonathan. Jonathan crossed his arms. He let out a deep sigh, retaining his frown.
“Yes, it is true as far as I can tell. Grendel and his mother have made an alliance with the Dark Elves.”
You nearly dropped your cup as you were lifting to have a drink.
“Grendel?! That’s the same name as…do you mean from Beowolf?” you cut in.
Jonathan turned to you with a nod.
“One and the same!”
You leaned forward, your eyes widening to Loki.
“Are you telling me that Grendel is real?! And still alive?! I thought Beowolf killed him and his mother!” you cried.
“You actually believe that poem? Hm, you’re a bookish girl, aren’t you?” Robert commented.
“Well, my lady, Grendel, and his mother turned out to be real…I was as surprised as you,” Hal said. He picked up another orange and began to peel it with his dagger.
Loki gave a wide smile and leaned toward you.
“I’ll be the one to explain, my dear. Long ago, Beowolf lost to Grendel in a fight. Beowulf fled with his tail between his legs and a few broken bones. He used his time recuperating from his injuries to write an entire poem about how he completely defeated Grendel easily. He spread it through his kingdom- so they all believed him! Why else would he write a whole, long poem boasting about how wonderful he is?”
Loki turned to Jonathan. He kept his fork and knife politely on the plate, cutting up his food and taking small bites. You could smell Hal’s orange as he set the discarded peel on the plate.
“In the taverns, those drinking and caroling sometimes mention Grendel. Only briefly. Most laugh and shrug it aside. But only a wise few are genuinely fearful. As they should be…”
Loki looked at all of them. The forks and knives stopped with the gravity of his voice.
“Grendel is a powerful being. Far more than the poem wrote. And far smarter. Gets it from his mother. Between the two of them, he’s determined to do what it takes to invade and rule all of us…and he is looking for ways to do it easily.”
“There is…another rumor…” Jonathan began. “But it’s something.”
Heads turned over.
“Well-what is it?” Robert pressed. He lifted his own drink and took a long sip.
Jonathan then set down his hands and folded them across the table. He looked seriously at every person there.
“They say there is a prophet…he resides in Jotenheim. He is one of the Frost Giants. But he has ancient knowledge. Of things that are, will be, and might be. I heard he might have…information. That Grendel has a weakness. Now- all that are rumors. But the prophet knows what it is. If we give him something, he will return the favor and tell us.”
“What sort of something?” Robert asked, arching an eyebrow.
“He accepts offers of food, of warmth.”
“Warmth? Ironic for a Frost Giant!” Loki commented.
You leaned forward. “But… and let's assume the worst-if Grendel has an alliance with these Dark Elves, whoever they are, I assume it means he has an army… How will any of you stand against an army?” you asked.
Loki tilted to you. He rested an elbow on the table and looked at you, resting his hand to rub on his chin.
“You are far from wrong. And do you think I would let these mortals near an army and ask them to defeat them all? No! We knew Grendel had a weak spot. If we located what it is and asked this prophet. That is our mission. To discover this weakness of his and take care of it. We get the weak spot, I doubt that the army will be behind him.
Loki turned to Jonathan.
“Do you have anything else to report from your spying?”
Robert Laing took out a cigarette. You could smell the smoke where he was. Hal then turned to Loki.
“I heard one thing. Now, I a spy? No! But I do hear that Odin plans on naming his heir. Perhaps going during the day of the ceremony will keep him distracted.” Loki froze. The corners of his lips twitched. He stared and blinked once. Then he frowned gently.
“That is…a good idea…I will be expected to go but…the rest of you may.
He swallowed. Something in his eyes dimmed - a sadness. Then he blinked rapidly and threw a hand up.
“Now, enough! Please, let us move on…where is Thomas?”
“Thomas? Yes- you mentioned another? Is he staying here too?” you asked.
In answer, in walked another gentleman. His clothes were not too far off from what men of your time wore. He looked a lot like Loki- an uncommonly handsome man with curly dark hair blue eyes and pale skin. In his arms were several contraptions.
“Please forgive the delay. A gear was spinning the wrong way!” he said.
He went over and sat down on the table. He flourished out a napkin and set it on his lap.
“Loki, we have been going and going…but if I’m going to find something to track him, I will need some magic to my devices, as you promised. I have been working at it all mo-”
His voice cut off. His eyes went to you. You gave him a smile and he gave a beautiful one back to you.
“Oh…we have a new guest?” he crooned.
Loki nodded.
“Thomas, this is the ever-charming Y/N- she hails from a small town in Essex. She’s another guest in the palace.” Loki introduced.
He nodded to you with his head, his eyes were so bright you felt something flutter inside you. He was a natural charmer.
“Why- Miss Y/L/N, the pleasure is mine. I am Sir Thomas Sharpe, esquire.”
“Sir?” you asked. “Are you a lord?”
“A baronet,” he answered.
“A Baronet! Then it should be mine! I am so honored- I never met a Baronet before!”
“Well, now you have, Miss Y/L/N,” he answered.
You curtsied excitedly and he smiled. You saw Loki frown at him. Something glimmering in his eyes. He began to fork at some eggs and eat. After he smiled, you turned to the baronet.
“What brings you to Loki?” you asked.
“I’m working on an invention for him. A contraption to find Grendel. He tends to hide a lot. I am sure that Loki’s magic could help. As well as anything to help with training,” Thomas explained.
You looked around.
“Training? For fighting?” you asked.
Loki nodded.
“It is a requirement of my little circle. We train to know how to fight. I do have my beloved daggers.”
With his magic, a dagger-long and sharp- appeared in his hand.
“But one must know how to wield them. Thomas and Robert must especially practice. Hal knows of battling with swords…”
Hal smirked.
“I was raised to be a warrior. Shrewsberry changed me.”
“And it is Jonathan who teaches sparring and the like. Far less elegant in my opinion. But it strengthens the body and gets the job done,” Loki added.
“You have…fought before, Mr. Pine?” you asked.
Jonathan sighed.
“Yes. I was a soldier. I’ve seen battles. Been part of many, in fact,” he replied calmly.
Robert tipped off the burning end of his cigarette.
“Just go to our time, Loki. Find a gun and just shoot Grendel!” he suggested.
Loki let out a laugh in spite of himself.
“If it was that easy, I would have done it! But Grendel has survived many years for a reason. I doubt a mortal bullet would scratch him.”
“I will say- training is an excellent workout. Far more exciting than any gym I’ve been to,” Robert replied.
You thought about it. You were…weak. You could see her again. See Cora again. Leaping about and running. Even with no bloody corset to prove how superior she was to the other women. But…strong. Getting dirty and going about in the muck and through forests and beaches. And was that why Will…lost interest in you? Betrayed you for a “stronger” woman? You felt a tear curl up on your face.
Robert turned his head.
“Y/N…are you alright?” he asked.
You wiped off the stray tear with your napkin and then asked on impulse.
“Could I join? Just for one?! I would like to train to fight too,’ you announced.
They all looked at you. You folded your hands back in your lap.
“I would like to train with you…to be…be strong. Please teach me how to fight like the rest of you!”
If you said such things back home, it would very, very, very likely be immediately shut down. You prepared for it. The verbal rejections. The rolling of eyes. Sighing. Even laughter.
There was nothing like that here. Loki then blinked and smiled.
“Oh…of course…if you would like to, you shall! I’m sure any help concerning Grendel would be appreciated, my dear.” Loki replied.
Your eyebrows shot up. Hal did squint a little, and then he relaxed. Jonathan was smiling and he nodded at you.
“Really? Do none of you have anything against women warriors?” you asked.
“No, not at all!” Jonathan assured you.
“There is one- Lady Sif! We must alert her- won’t she be thrilled! She fights alongside all of us!” Loki replied.
“Yes! Maybe…she could teach me too! We could use Thor’s help!” you suggested. You took a bite of a thick slice of bread.
But Loki shook his dark curls. His smile was melted. His jaw looked tight and his pale face turned slightly red. His voice came out as a slight snarl.
“No. Only as a last resort, I supposed. But you underestimate how much of a brute and dunce my brother is…”
You nearly choked out what you were eating.
“Thor a Brute?! Dunce?! Loki, you’re being very harsh on him!” you chided.
“Just wait and see-you will understand what he is really like!” Loki declared.
“Thor has been nothing but kind to me. What has he done to deserve these words?” you asked.
“You only just met him- I knew him all his life,” Loki argued.
“My fiancee is twice the brute Thor could ever be!” you impulsive declared.
There was such silence in the room one could hear a bug crawl. Robert tightened his lips. Jonathan ate his food quietly. Hal began rubbing a hand over his mouth as if hesitant to comment something. Then Loki relaxed.
“Well…we’re not here to discuss my brother…we’re here to discuss Grendel and replenish ourselves, let us move on, please.”
But Thor had been so kind, so friendly- A blonde Great Dane in human form. What would Loki have against him? But…wasn’t something about an heir mentioned earlier? Was that the great grudge Loki held against him? Yes, they were brothers. But sibling rivalry was always a thing. Thor never seemed to bully or belittle Loki. But that was only the few times you saw them interact.
Jonathan wiped his mouth with a napkin and then looked around.
“I hope all of you have enough to eat-we should resume training today right after breakfast…and Y/N, you will be with me. I’ll show you the basics of sparring,” he declared.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
“So then! Let us begin!” Hal announced.
The training grounds were a courtyard. The sun shone warmly that day and there were leafy green trees fluttering in the wind. They provided ample shade. Loki and Hal were still in their normal clothes, though Jonathan’s look was far more casual. A simple shirt and pants that allowed movement (even if they did look a little odd to you). Thomas simply rolled up his sleeves. Then there was Robert’s outfit- a white shirt and very short pants. It was everything in you to hold yourself from staring at the exposure of his legs.
You were changed out of your normal dress into the athletic wear of your day. A shorter dark skirt that merely went a couple of inches above your ankles and a white shirt. You wore comfortable boots that would allow quick movement.
It began with warming up. You had to stretch and do jumping jacks. Robert grunted but did so easily. He had been doing this for a while. You were getting used to it. Robert could easily do several push-ups ups quickly. You could not. Your arms screamed as you tried to push yourself up and down from the ground.
Prince Hal went up to Robert, handing him the end of a practice sword. Loki stood by to observe them. Jonathan then went up to you.
“Would you like to know the basics of punching, Y/N?” he asked.
“Oh- yes, please! Please, Mr. Pine! I’ve…I’ve been weak all my life- but I’ll try!” you cried.
Jonathan shook his head.
“I don’t think you’re weak, Y/N,” he said.
“I’ve never…punched before….I bet it must be…”
“It’s not a matter of physical strength, it’s how you do it.,” Jonathan advised.
After he practiced a parry, Robert turned his head towards you two.
“Oh, Jonathan- we have to spar again! I will defeat you this time. Easily,” he bragged.
“Good luck,” Jonathan bit back.
In his distraction, the practice sword tapped his shoulder. Robert’s eyes turned big and he twirled around to Hal and Loki laughing at them. Jonathan rolled up his sleeves. He then went to you.
“Y/N, open your stance-like so,” he stood so his legs were a couple of inches apart. “Your dominant foot leads and the other goes to the back.
You did so. Just one little step. If you made them all little steps, it wouldn’t feel as bad.
“Now bend your knees a little-very good. Now make two fists. You put them to your face. If it’s quick-it’s a jab.”
Jonathan opened up his hand.
“Hit me very quick with your dominant hand-try it.”
Lightly as a tap, you tried a jab onto his hand. Jonathan smiled and nodded his head.
“Very nice! That’s one way to punch. Let me show you a way to defend yourself. Crough a little beneath your fists- it makes you a smaller target for them.”
You did as much as your corset would allow you. You couldn’t slouch, but you could bend your knees and lower your head with good posture. You peeked out at him from between.
“Now, throw twenty jabs with your leading hand, Y/N,” Jonathan instructed.
You punched his hand.
“Now harder,” he pressed.
You jabbed with more force. You felt the smack of skin against skin. You exhaled quickly and as quickly as you did.
“Now bounce between your feet…there…there you go-not punch my hand again- hard as you possibly can. ”
You thought of Will again. In your mind like a flash. The field. If their kiss was a picture printed on Pine’s hand. You punched harder. With such force, Jonathan took a few steps back.
“Excellent, Y/N he praised.
“I did good!?”
“Yes- see? You’re a natural,” Jonathan praised.
“A natural fighter?” you asked.
“I think you are-you just had to learn how. But it’s only your first day-it will take time, but if you want to, you’ll learn.”
You spent the two hours learning about about crossing. About hooks. He taught you combinations and you moved the punches with focus. It was a matter of repetition- doing it over and over again. But with the sun beating down and the demand of the exercise you sweated so much. You wanted to guzzle water. You wondered if you were going to pass out (again). The pain of your muscles being worked hard as you moved, begging you to stop.
But you pushed through and survived. More than survived- your body buzzed with life, with newfound soreness and strength. Though your hands were stinky and sweaty, tight from being in fists, you had done it. You had learned the basics of throwing a punch. You never felt so…powerful before. You couldn’t recall the last time you felt so.
Going back to your room. You saw that on the desk was the engagement ring. Still glittering. You merely sat in your chair to stare at it. Looking down at your sweaty hands, you noticed a mark on your finger from how often you wore it. It felt a little bit like your finger was naked. But here you were doing well without it. Could you have learned to punch with it on? No.
But there it was. Staring at you. Mocking you. You pushed it aside to see your beloved journal.
You had used it to write diary entries, but it was filled with so much more. You pressed flowers and photos and scraps of paper with recipes and doodles and memories-often happy ones. There was one photo on the first page that kept a special place in your heart. You and a few of the local women your age sitting on the beach for a picnic among friends. Everyone’s hair was swept by the wind and several of you kept a hand to keep your hats on. But everyone was smiling-big, genuine, happy smiles. Smiles such as the one caught when one was going to have a big, full-belly laugh. In the center was Stella, becoming as ever with her blonde braid draped to the side of her right shoulder and her bright eyes beaming full of life. It was the smile she made right before she was going to laugh. You had looked at the camera at the side and everyone had linked arms or shown off their plates of cake slices. The sand looked as light as snow and the sun was gentle that day. You put a hand over it to trace the edges and the inside, your fingers lightly touching down it as if to feel the happy memory on your skin.
You deliberately did not look at anything regarding Will. There was a page you had pressed the red rose he gave to you and a lock of his hair you both exchanged with each other when you got engaged. You gaped at it, your stomach dropping as you took it in along with his small photograph. Your eyes shot down to the white edges of the pages as if you could not have it in you to even look at him. You then forced the page to close to the next one.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
You all were invited to dine with the royal couple the next day. You were thrilled. You never imagined being in the same room as Queen Victoria herself. Godhood was a different matter altogether.
Dressed in a dinner dress from your time in a rich blue with a bow on the breastline, you placed your napkin on your lap as you sat down. All of you all sat at that golden table. Pine was in his nice blue suit, Robert his grey one, and Hal in some dark satin with gold buttons. Everyone rose up to their seat as the royal family walked in. Odin was a man with long, white hair and a white beard. Frigga was always graceful, smiling, and comforting as always. Thor followed afterward, lumbering into his seat. Everyone took note and returned to their own. Servants filled goblets of wine and served large legs of chicken and more side dishes than you could count.
“How are you, lady Y/N? I heard you were here but I never saw you around. There was a rumor you were unwell, my dear-is it true?” Frigga asked, her voice soft with genuine concern.
“I have had…a recent difficulty…” you started.
Robert took a deep drink of his wine. Loki leaned forward, putting an elbow on the table and a hand over his lip. He watched you intently-willing himself not to speak.
“Oh dear- are you ready to speak of it or would you rather not?” Frigga asked, she leaned forward. The warm, full plate of her food was forgotten. Odin meanwhile immediately dug into his meat.
You nodded, bunching up the napkin on your lap like a handkerchief.
“I can speak about it... My betrothed was…he…uh, he betrayed me for another. I found their letters. Then saw them embrace.” you explained.
A hand flew to Frigga’s heart and her mouth formed a small O. Right as the words were about to get out of her, the AllFather cut in.
“Oh, slighted by a beloved?” Odin asked.
You swallowed back the impulse to yell at him.
Slight?! Slight?! Slight like it was nothing. Slight like you were overreacting. Slighting was when you looked at someone and they turned the other way. Slight was when someone said, “no, I do not feel the same about you.” Adultery was not slight. It was not little. If it was little, you would be over it by now. You knew that. Odin should know that!
But yet -this was this world’s king! You couldn’t chide him or rebel. Even if you were a guest, it would create bad tensions. And between a king and some mortal peasant woman, you knew who held the upper hand.
You turned your head down. But a clearing of a throat nearby you made you look up.
“If that is how you put it, Father-but Y/N darling deeply loved him. She still does. It was a betrayal, nevertheless,” Loki informed.
He shot you a look and a nod. An acknowledgment. An understanding.
“Oh, you poor dear! That must be very hard! No wonder the rumors flew!” Frigga sighed.
She reached over and offered her hand. You took it and she rubbed one over in comfort. You gave her a smile.
Thor nodded. He picked up a leg of chicken and knawed at it. Robert took another sip of his wine.
“Yes, he was full of faith. He just couldn’t be faithful.” Robert commented.
“Indeed, lady- that is a miserable situation- Have you considered meeting him on a battlefield and ramming a sword through his gut?” he asked with his deep voice.
You gave him a bigger smile that was met with a half chuckle. You saw Hal beam at the idea. But then you tensed up again as you answered.
“I’ve been tempted to!”
“Then by all means, Lady Y/N, do it!” Thor encouraged.
“It’s easier said than done,” Robert commented.
Thomas was cutting his meat with his knife and fork into bits. Suddenly he set down the fork with food on it. Jonathan watched intently, not saying a word.
“If I break the engagement…I will be considered…. Damaged. Embarrassed. Even unmarriageable…”
“Unmarriageable? Why?!” Thor cried.
Thomas leaned in and politely put in.
“It is true but… usually, Miss Y/L/N, it is more severe for the gentleman to break it than the lady. But yes-I can confirm. From our time, it can risk a lady's reputation.”
“It would mean…ruin…” you added.
Loki’s eyes gave an angry glint and his frown was hard at Thomas.
“Are you implying that Y/N is defective? Do you agree with them, Sir Sharpe? She has done nothing to be ashamed of!” he hissed.
Thomas shook his head, his eyes wide and losing his sudden grace.
“Oh! No! I’m so sorry! I’ve heard it…but…Miss Y/L/N…”
Thomas leaned closer to you.
“The advice given is to write a letter. A calm one. Send it to him. Return the gifts, no matter how expensive-especially if there is a ring. Was there?”
A lump was in your throat as you nodded.
“I…I’m so scared to…to…to do it,” you confessed.
A whole future you were so looking forward to. A man you loved. The promise of a peaceful life in a nice small town married to a handsome, faithful vicar. You still wanted it. But that was never to be. On top of the humiliation of a broken engagement, you knew you had to let go of wanting things to be an ideal instead of what it was. But holding onto it never made you feel any better. And the idea of going back home and walking down the aisle of that brown church and being brought to his brown house knowing what he did seemed impossible.
“My dear, you have good reason to….if you want to. It is your decision,” Frigga encouraged.
She looked at Odin and he nodded as if on cue before drinking his goblet.
“My worth, my future…will be gone…” you mumbled.
“For letting go of an engagement?! Of course, it won’t!” Robert added on. You turned to him.
He began to shrug. “Where I come from, there are hundreds of breakups like this-hundreds of divorces. They’re normal in the future.”
Loki made a gesture to the blonde man politely cutting his meat into strips.
“Better than being stuck with something miserable. Jonathan here is divorced! But he’s not some ruined good with no future- if his own life moved on, and so could yours!”
Jonathan nodded.
“It is true…but it doesn’t make it any less painful, Y/N,” he said.
Thor smiled and raised up a goblet to you.
“Warriors have scars on the battlefield. And this is just another battle for you, Y/N. But you will win it, no doubt..”
You gave all of them a smile. Then continue your meal. Odin turned to his elder son.
“Speaking of battles…I heard there was a duel between you and a warrior of Jotenheim- how did you do son?”
Thor curled his fingers into a fist with a proud grin.
“Crushed him, easily!” he boasted.
Odin applauded with a laugh. He reached a hand and touched his arm.
“There you go, there’s my boy!” But as you turned, Loki’s face drained of its color. He ate the rest of his meal in a hurry and then excused himself. Once it was finished, you found him on the balcony.
“Loki…you don’t like Thor…though he’s your brother and he’s kind to you…how come?” you asked. No matter beating around the bush.
You followed him over. You both were looking out the balcony onto the evening sky. The Asgard city sparkled in its lights before you. Loki turned around to you. His voice was quiet.
“Do you remember what Jonathan said at the meeting? About Thor?”
“Odin’s going to name Thor as his heir?” you recalled.
“Yes…Odin’s going to name Thor as his heir. Not me. Him. And you saw him at dinner-lauding over every little thing he does.”
He looked out. He began to mourn softly-the words fresh out of him. Losing the cool confidence he kept as a god.
“All of my life. I have been second to Thor. Thor the Great. The Mighty Thor. He’s always been Father’s clear favorite. He’s gotten everything to him on a silver platter. Me…not so much.”
You placed yourself closer to him. You saw his hands grip the railing. A small tear ran down his face despite his angry frown.
“Oh…dear, Loki-that is miserable…your father shouldn’t treat you like this…no father should,” you consoled.
“You only need to understand what it is to have Father’s favorite in front of your face paraded all of your life.”
You arched an eyebrow.
“Do you think I don’t understand what it is for someone I love to prefer another person over me?” you asked.
There was silence. Then Loki looked down. He then noticed your hands.
“They haven’t come off since the bargain…I wonder…how much do you know about the spell?” you questioned.
“I only know how to perform it and what it does. But as to the after effects…I’ll have to ask my mother. She is the one who taught me magic, after all.” he explained.
Both of you looked at the small marks across your skin. Then turning up, you met Loki. How relaxed he seemed here. No formal dinner. No swaggering display of power. Just…just himself.
“So…you keep Thor out of this quest…so you can get all the glory?” you asked.
He placed both of his hands on his hips and tilted his head a bit.
“Is there anything wrong with that?”
“No..it’s just…it’s a complicated scheme. Perhaps you should just sit down and tell your father how you feel?”
He turned to the balcony and looked at the city again. Down one could see people going in and out of places-joyful and smiling and laughing. As if a celebration was going on down there.
“I have other matters. Bigger ones. We have a threat to our planet. Our world. To Asgard And yours and the others. If we’re going to keep anyone we love safe, we have to go through. We began and we will see this to the end,” Loki answered.
You looked down, then back up.
“Alright..then count me in…” you said.
Loki turned to you.
“What…what do you mean?” he asked, tilting his head.
“Loki…what if I stayed here? Trained every day? Stayed here and helped you?”
“You…want to stay here? You have someone waiting back home to marry you…” Loki mumbled, blinking rapidly.
“If I go now…I will be pressured to marry him at once and I…I…I don’t want to…not after what he did…Loki…don’t send me back there and leave me there…I…I don’t want to marry Will. I want to stay here. Don’t send me back to Aldwinter, please.” Your voice became pleading.
He looked at you. His blue eyes became shiny, and then his posture relaxed.
“Then I won’t force you…you are free to come and go from here, but stay as long as you like. We’ll make it a second home…” he answered.
You stepped forward and hugged him. In honest gratitude. He nestled into you, nuzzling tight.
“Thank you…I wish Odin could see this side of you- the generous side…” you muttered.
“And your priest could see your bravery,” Loki replied.
You squeezed him tighter. As if you could squeeze out the air from him. But he took it. He held you. And he didn’t release until you were the one to let go.
“I’ll ask Jonathan to escort you back to your room.”
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
You sat down at the desk the next morning. You put out a piece of paper and began writing. This first letter would be an easy one.
“Dearest Mama and Papa, I was never abducted. I am not Loki’s whore. I am safe and cared for in Asgard. I plan on staying there a while but I will stop down and visit you. I do not know when I will be returning, but they treat me like part of their family. There is something there that requires my assistance. I will write to you soon with more details- but I am very much alive and well and unharmed with all of my needs met. You have nothing to worry about with me. I will write to you as often as I can. And visit when time allows. All of my love, Your daughter, Y/N.”
You stared at the piece of paper. Your pen hung in the air. One piece of paper- and it would determine your fate. Your future. A whole future you had set up that you were now going to throw away… No…it was nothing you did to ruin it.
“Will,
I have written to my parents to say this, but I will tell you. I am in Asgard. I am safe there. All of my needs are being cared for. I am no one’s whore as some might say. I plan to stay there for some time…”
You paused. This was hard. It was very hard. But you knew it had to be done, tears brimming in your eyes. You recalled the evening you danced together at a party, not too long before he proposed. A happy memory made sad and bitter.
The letters. The tan coat. The red dress. Cora. The kiss.
It curled up in your stomach and made the inside of your bowels feel like it was full of fluids. And not in a pleasant way. The people in Aldwinter will chide you for this. But the people in Asgard… said you would still have worth.
No matter what I have worth. And I will survive this and move on, you thought. After all, it was not you who was ruined. It was not you who did any wrong, you had to remind yourself. And if this means I am ruined because I know what I want in my husband, so be it. With a deep breath to calm yourself, you continued writing.
“Our agreement was made when we were in love but we truly did not know each other. We did not understand marriage- neither of us. When I did not understand what it meant to be your wife. And you did not understand what it meant to be my husband. Now we do. You have hurt me. Deeply. And one day you will answer to your God for what you have done as much as you answered to me. May you be prepared. I remember Proverbs- “the man who commits adultery is an utter fool, for he destroys himself. He will be wounded and disgraced. His shame will never be erased.” William, I cannot marry an adulterous man. There are women out there perhaps more forgiving than I am. I hope you meet one. Be loyal to her forever. May she never suffer the cruelty you have done to me. May you be willing to die for her, be a mere slave at her feet. May she never be shattered at the expense of your pleasure. For this, I release you from our contract. You are free now. Do not ask me to marry you again, I will say no. Do not look for me in your blind congregation. Do not go out and seek me. Do not speak to me. Do not do anything for me. And do not beg me to be kind to her. She knew you were not free. And it did not stop her. She is as guilty, as selfish, as unkind as you. No wonder you both were drawn to each other. I release you, with a heart full of both love and grief for who we were and who we might have become. You may visit my house for I would like to have the gifts you gave me returned to you. You are no longer mine as I was never truly yours. Goodbye, Father Ransome.
Sincerely, Miss Y/L/N.”
You folded it and tucked it into an envelope. You turned to your journal. You took out the page with his flower, strand of hair and picture. You put a finger through it to feel it. Tears ran down your cheeks, but your determination steeled you forward. You placed them in the envelope. Then, finally, you placed in the engagement ring and sealed the envelope shut.
You then walked over and found Loki in the dining hall with Thomas. Thomas was looking at a small music box, fiddling with the gears.
“I need this letter delivered to my home- to Essex, to Aldwinter. First this one to my home, and then…then this one to the church…” you said.
Thomas stood up.
“I think I would be the most suited- I think your time is close to mine. I dress a decade early already.” he sighed.
He put on his top hat and cloak and Loki’s magic whisked him away and then back. Thomas merely took off his top hat and brushed off the dirt of the town.
“There! Delivered efficiently! Now, Y/N, Loki-come here- this little box can play a different tune than it had at first! Come have a look…”
That night, you slept. Free from your betrothal. Free from your home. Free from living with the judgment of others. Yet you had an odd dream. You saw the sea- it looked like the sea back home.
Then images began flashing. A boat. A boy with brown hair. Flowers in the water. Spools of thread in the water. Little bottles in the water. Shells in the water. Then a glimpse-you saw threads of blonde hair floating in the water…someone was in it…perhaps swimming…but you could not make out a face, a person, yet you felt a presence…you saw a white hand reach outstretched towards the surface, where the sun glimmered through the sea. Then it went down, down, down…
When you woke up, somehow, the dream stuck with you.

Without You: Vergil x G/N Reader
Summary: You have been missing for some time now and Vergil is slowly losing it. The blue devil's constant fear and worry about you being dead has turned him into a shadow of hi former self; someone that is even capable of grinding on Dante's gears.
Another pretty story-heavy oneshot; six dividers (double equal signs) down for important parts if you want to skip the pre-text. ⏳⏳⏳ Once again, I reference the “Revenant Shotgun” as being your gun; I really think the gun is pretty lmao. You also use Beowulf. Minor blood/gut talk, nothing too serious though (figured I should mention it just in case). This is the first time I have tried to write combat since I was like 13, so forgive the (probably) less-than-adequate scene writing--I tried lol. ⏳⏳⏳ Pre-established relationship with Vergil. G/N reader. ⏳⏳⏳ Semi-angst followed by fluff (I don't know why I keep writing sad Vergil things; I swear I'll stop after this lmfao)

The air was stagnated and stale as Nero slowly sat up, groaning in pain. His head was pounding as he looked around, confused and disorientated. He slowly blinked as he got a grasp on his surroundings. With a huff, Nero mindlessly groped around his lower back for Blue Rose and found it missing. This snapped him to attention as he began to sporadically eye over the area around him.
His brow furrowed as he focused on Red Queen which was thrust into the ground nearly twenty feet away. Slowly standing up with a wince, he went over to the sword. As he yanked the stubbornly stuck blade from the ground, a glint of light caught his attention. Blue Rose was laying on the ground nearby.
Placing Red Queen on his back, he clicked his tongue and went to retrieve his sidearm. “What in the fuck happened?” Nero’s thoughts were a blur as he scrunched his face struggling to put together the broken pieces of his recent memories.
==
“Move it, asshole!” Nero insincerely barked as he held a growl from deep within his throat.
You ducked down into a roll, knowing that Nero was going to lose control soon and it was best not to argue with his demonic side. Using Beowulf to quickly spin upward and to your feet, you managed to make quick work of a Choas demon's spines. Seizing the opportunity, you aimed Revenant dead-center of the creature’s eyes and pulled the trigger. Smoothly holstering your shotgun, you continued fighting the onslaught of demons alongside the now devil-triggered Nero.
It was like a beautiful deadly dance when the two of you got into your well-practiced tango of destruction. Nero would typically take a more topside approach, using his wings to pull things to him and then dropping them to you. His over-the-top chaotic slashing and slicing would then be cleaned up by you underneath him. You, who had the completely opposite style, opted for a calm and collected approach, especially if you were using Vergil’s gear. Times like these are something you cherish dearly and never want to end--even if you are being coated by blood and demonic entrails.
A sudden out-of-place movement caught the corner of your eye as you tried to move out of its path; however, you weren’t quite fast enough and got thrown across the room.
Nero’s attention was drawn to your flying body, “What the--!” before he could think he was hammer fisted directly into the ground below him. With a bright-blue flash, his devil trigger ended, leaving a confused and human Nero looking up at a strange figure above him.
The demon was not one Nero had seen before--it reminded him of the descriptions of the “Third Beast of Revelations”. However, its appearance wasn’t quite as he remembered being told--only having four of the seven heads that it is supposed to have.
The young man stood up, “What the hell are you supposed to be, huh?” he smirked. The creature lunged at him, which Nero avoided. He laughed a bit holding the Blue Rose aimed at the back of the beast, “Too slow. Wanna try again?”
Nero sidestepped the demon again but was hit by an unexpected swing of its tail. He dropped his revolver as he was tossed across the room. Nero went to get up again. Before he moved back in, however, his ears twitched at a strange sound. The hunter turned to his side and realized that the noise was your breathing. Gently grabbing your shoulder, Nero tried to shake you awake. Revenant and Beowulf had been tossed far from your body and you were out cold. Seeing as there was a large amount of blood dripping from your forehead, that wouldn’t be changing any time soon.
“Shit,” Nero mumbled under his breath as he pulled Red Queen from the resting place on his back, “You’re gonna owe me big time.”
With an impossibly blinding speed, the young hunter took off toward the large demon. Nero’s face was in a grimace as he focused the best he could without his trigger. In hindsight, he was regretting using his demonic energy on such a simple fight before.
His attempt at defeating this beast alone was futile; it was much too strong for him in this state. Another large hit from the beast sent him flying in the opposite direction as before; leaving your unconscious body as far from him as possible. The demon also noticed this as it turned its sights to your limp form.
“Tch, shit-” Nero hastily got up on his feet and ran to your aid; however, it was too late. The beast had your body in its grasp as it curiously looked you over. “Put them down you fuck!” his mind was racing; if something happens to you, Vergil will kill him.
With a grunt, Nero sprung up at the demon. Who only batted him away again. He used Red Queen to stop himself from flying so far off. Knowing there wasn’t time, he left the sword and was going to fight using just his hands. Was it stupid? Yes. Did he care? No, not if it meant trying everything he could to protect you--someone who had become essentially his step-parent.
However, the demon had no intent on letting you leave this place with the youngest Sparda descendant. It opened a fissure through the floor, but before leaving, attacked Nero one last time. It sent him flying in an almost straight line across the room and into a wall, knocking the hunter out cold.
==
Nero stood in front of where he had last seen you lay, your weapons were still strewn about and your coat had fallen from your shoulders as you were snatched upward. A cold heavy feeling sunk in as he just stood there staring.
Slowly he gathered your gear, he didn't know how he was going to tell the others what happened. Nero didn’t know whose response would be worse; Dante mocking him for his lack of skill or Vergil who would undoubtedly lose it over this.
He just wanted to go back to the DMC and get this over with. Nero left the demon nest, not caring that he hadn’t finished the job. Outside, Nico was in her van waiting for the pair’s return.
Seeing Nero, she opened the door of the van, “Took y’all long--” she paused, seeing the gear in Nero’s arms, “Whoa, wait… Where’s--”
“I don’t know,” Nero mumbled, refusing to look Nico in the eye as he got into the vehicle.
“Whatdya’ mean ‘you don’t know’?” her voice was playful, thinking that Nero was just fucking with her as he placed the items on the table.
He leaned a bit onto the table with his palms flatly pressed against it, “I don’t know where they are..!” he grimaced as he stood back up with clenched fists, “Some fucking big asshole took ‘em”
Nico’s expression and pose changed from casual to a more serious one, “Wait-- they’re really missin’?” Nero’s frustrated stare said it all, “Holy crap-- Should we call your folks, I’m sure--”
“It wouldn’t help,” Nero relaxed his fists and took a deep breath trying to calm down, “They’ve been gone for a while, their scent’s gone.”
“Shit,” Nico pursed her lips as she paused for a moment, “Well, whaddya’ wanna do?”
Nero looked over to her, “I want to go to the shop. This is more important than the job.”
“Gotcha,” Nico wanted to poke at him but found herself unable to. Nero looked beyond exhausted and she knew that the brother’s responses will be more than punishing enough.
Neither of them spoke the whole way back.
==
Not wanting to be there when the three devils rip each other apart, Nico just dropped Nero in the garage and left.
Deciding to wait a moment before going in, Nero focused his hearing. He only heard one heartbeat meaning there was only one person at the shop when he returned. Thankfully, upon opening the door, it was Dante.
The red devil sat at his desk with his back to the garage, “Hey, you two are back early,” his gaze didn’t leave whatever he was doing on his desk, “Was thinking about ordering a pizza. You guys want anything?”
Nero’s face was pale and gave no response. He just simply walked over to the coffee table and plopped down your coat and weapons.
Dante pouted slightly with confusion, “If you don’t want--” his brow twitched as he noticed that there was only one person that had come in, “Hey where’s--” his happy expression dropped quickly. He moved around to the side of his desk to see what Nero had just set down.
“Dante-” Nero bit his tongue in thought, “Before you go off; hear me out?”
He scratched the stubble on his face, “Sure, go ahead kid.” he leaned back onto his desk.
Nero explained what happened and what attacked them. Surprisingly, Dante wasn’t mad or made any rude jabs about things. He just simply nodded along and paid close attention.
“Well Nero,” Dante shook his head and sighed, “As much as I want to give you shit-- You’re lucky to be alive. That bastard ain’t an easy thing to fight, ‘specially without a trigger handy…”
Nero’s gaze found its way back down to your gear, “You think they’re still alive, Dante?”
He sighed and stood back up, “If they weren’t, Vergil would know by now,” he bit his lip, “Question is: why did the demon want them alive?”
     “Think Vergil would know?”
“Doubt it, he knows just as little as I do about those beasts…" he paused briefly before continuing, "Look, Nero,” Dante set a hand on the young man’s shoulder, “go home. I will tell Vergil about this whole thing. He’s already ripped off your arm, I really don’t want him to try ‘n gut you too. Okay?”
Nero was taken aback by what he said and nodded, “Thanks, Dante.”
“Any time kid,” Dante removed his hand, “Just don’t come back till I let you know it’s safe. Might take your old man a few days to calm down.”
“Sure thing,” Nero moved to the garage door, “Keep me posted, yeah?”
Dante gave a stiff nod to Nero as he watched him shut the door.
“Vergil’s just going to gut us instead… You’re a fuckin’ genius, Dante.” he sighed at his thoughts. What the hell was he going to do?
A few hours passed before the door finally swung open. Vergil stepped into the shop raising a brow at his brother who was at the desk asleep. With a sly smile and shake of his head, Vergil walked further into the room.
However, that smile quickly faded upon seeing Revenant, Beowulf, and your folded jacket sitting on the coffee table, “Dante.”
The younger twin slowly blinked as he opened his eyes and sat upwards, “Hm?”
“What is--” Vergil’s brow slowly furrowed further and further, “Why is their gear here?”
“Well..” Dante stood up and took a deep breath, “Look I ain’t gonna sugar coat it: They are missing.”
“ What? ” Vergil’s voice was sharp as he glared at Dante.
“Look, before you go and try to kill Nero--It wasn’t his fault,” Dante shrugged, “We would’ve had a tough time with what happened.”
Vergil made sure to enunciate each word clearly, “Dante, what happened.”
“They were attacked by one of those Revelation beasts. Your kid barely made it out. Nero said that they took your partner with them, so the demon wanted them alive for some reason.”
Vergil’s face went pale as his blood ran cold, “Where were they, I want to have a look at things.”
“Sure thing… I’m coming with though--you might need me,” Dante winked then stretched with a groan.
     “Whatever.”
They did go look. Vergil found nothing. It was a dead end.

Several months had gone by and the usual bustling and jovial atmosphere of the Devil May Cry had faded. Now all that remained was a quiet angst and depressed mood that was brought on by one individual alone.
The silence was broken by the sound of the garage door opening. Standing in the doorway were the two twin sons of Sparda; Vergil stood in front of Dante. The eldest headed up to his room, not saying a word. His silent steps were filled with anger; an emotion that has become a common theme in recent times. Dante just stood, watching his brother go up the winding stairs.
Across the room, Nero sat on the couch. His gaze moved off of his phone and onto the remaining brother--who was already raiding the fridge, “Any luck, Dante?”
“No! There was absolutely fucking nothing.” Dante was seething as he looked over at Nero, “Your old man is just so… infuriating; I am this close to shoving the Yamato so far up his ass--.” with a pinch of the bridge of his nose, the youngest twin huffed out a heavy sigh.
Nero shook his head with a small laugh; knowing exactly how Dante felt. Vergil would barely talk to Nero without getting an irritated tone and becoming condescending, “Don’t worry, it’s only gonna keep getting worse; how long’s it been anyways--four months?”
Dante let out a nod of affirmation walking over to his desk. He kicked up his feet and cracked open the bottle drinking the majority of the bottle in one go, “You know, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Vergil’s going to storm his way down into Hell just to make sure he’s looked everywhere.”
“He’s that desperate, huh?” Nero sat forward more on the couch, paying more attention to what was being said.
“That doesn’t even come close to describing how Verge’s being. I mean,” Another wave of building frustration was slowing creeping onto Dante’s face signified by his furrowed brow, “I don’t blame him for being worried--I would be if it were my lover--but still…” he exasperatedly removed his boots from the desk, making a slight thud as they hit the floor, “-he doesn’t have to be such a dick about things. I’m trying to help.” Dante was attempting to find his happy place--lest he wants to have another hole in the drywall.
“Vergil being a dick is nothing new--you’d know that better than me--he’s just not used to needing help,” Nero stood up from the couch revealing a manila envelope in his hand, “On a better note: Morrison dropped this off while you were out, said it’s for your eyes only.”
“Really?” Dante reached forward and snatched the envelope, “I wonder what that means, Morrison doesn’t often--” his voice slowly drifted as something inside the folder caught his attention. He continued to flip through the documents faster and faster with a wide-eyed stare.
Curiosity getting the better of him, Nero leaned over trying to take a peek at the papers, “What’s so interesting, huh?”
Without answering, Dante jumped up from his seat. The youngest son of Sparda ran up the stairs and began to bang rapidly on a certain blue demon’s door, “Vergil! Vergil, open up! Come on! Verge--”
A door pushed hard into Dante’s shoulder as a set of mildly bloodshot iced-over eyes met his, “What is it?” Dante stood frozen for a moment, not expecting Vergil to have answered the door so quickly; let alone seeing him after he had been (what appeared to be) crying, “What do you want, Dante.” Vergil’s sharp tone cut Dante from his thoughts.
“Shit, sorry. Just--here,” he shoved the folder at Vergil, “have a look at this.”
Vergil lifted a brow in curiosity as he let go of the doorknob and stopped shoving the door into his little brother. Sighing quietly, Vergil began to sift through the documents and pictures; the further he read, the further his brow creased. Vergil’s voice was rough and cracked as he looked at Dante, “Where--”
“Morrison dropped it off while we were out. Gave it to Nero… Is it that what I think it is?”
Vergil cleared his throat and took a short pause, “It could be--I would have to see it to be sure.”
“Alright, then saddle up princess, we got a job to do,” and with that, Dante left before Vergil chastised him for the jab.
A few moments later, Vergil came downstairs with his demon hunting gear re-equipped. Dante stretched his arms upward cracking his back quite loudly, “Ready, Verge?” Vergil gave Dante a curt nod and began to walk toward the garage door. Before leaving, Dante humorously cooed at Nero, “Make sure to finish your homework and be in bed by 7. We will be back in the morning--so behave till then. Love youuu~” flashing a wide sharp-toothed grin, he waved and headed for the door--ignoring the fact that Nero just whipped him off.
“Where is the location?” Vergil’s voice was deadpan as he unsheathed the Yamato.
“Here-” Dante handed Vergil the paper with the address, “So, what are we gonna do if it really is--”
“Silence." Vergil’s voice was sharp as his eyes turned to a harsh squint in irritation; tossing the folder off to the side.
Dante pursed his lips, pouting slightly at his brother’s attitude; but, didn’t feel like bantering so he remained silent.
Upon exiting the portal, the twins looked in front of them. The object of the job was before them, a large nest that was crawling with demons. Not wanting to waste time, they both ventured forward.
==
A few hours passed as the brothers slashed their way through the mound’s inhabitants. Dante and Vergil stopped for a moment to catch their breath.
Dante adjusted his coat, “So, how far down do you think it’ll be? We gonna have to go all the way?”
“Most likely,” Vergil slicked his hair back, “Is that a problem?”
“ ‘Course not, just was wonderin’,”
Vergil didn’t respond and just continued forward, Dante following in toe.
Dante cracked his knuckles, “So if it is-- then what?”
“I do not know--nor will I know until I see it.”
“Really hope that this lead is real and not another stupid hoax,” Dante frowned.
“If it is not worth our time,” Vergil’s voice was filled with more hostility with every word, “I will make sure to give the client a visit .”
“No-- Vergil you can’t kill our clients; we are demon hunters, not people hunters. Plus, this nest needed to be taken care of anyway.”
The eldest twin only scoffed in response.
==
It had been nearly eight hours since entering the nest and they still had no signs of what they were looking for. Both of them were getting crabby at this point; Vergil about the lack of evidence and Dante because of Vergil’s attitude.
“I swear--” Dante growled in frustration, “I am going to just fucking dig my way to the bottom of this fucking bastard.”
“That is impossible,” Vergil’s voice held no emotion.
“I know, I am just getting sick of this shit,” he groaned, “Just feels like we are getting nowhere--that’s all.”
Vergil stopped and tilted his head up slightly. Upon seeing this, Dante stopped as well.
     “Verge, I didn’t-”
Vergil turned his head to the left and began to walk.
Dante rolled his eyes and pivoted in a grandiose manner, “Okay-ay, I guess we are goin’ this way now.”
They walked in silence for a few more minutes before coming to a dead end. Vergil began to scowl and stare at the wall.
“That’s a mighty fine wall there Verge, but what-”
     “Break it.”
“... What?” Dante double-took at his brother’s words.
“I want you to break down this wall,” Vergil’s eyes moved sharply off the wall and to Dante.
“Look, Vergil, I made a joke about breaking shit down--wasn’t actually going to start--”
“Do as I say, Dante,” Vergil snarled, “Break. It. Down.”
Dante sighed, driving his sword into the ground, and responded by using a mocking baby voice, “Fine, mister grumpy pants.”
Using his Sin Trigger, Dante made quick work of the wall. The pair quickly stepped through as the hole repaired itself behind them. He shifted back into his human form and jogged after Vergil, who was already going forward. Another half hour passed of Vergil's speed walking forward intensely focused on something.
“Soooo… Plan on telling me what exactly you’re doing or are you gonna make me guess?”
Vergil hit Dante flat across the chest with a sheathed Yamato; before Dante could protest, he saw what his brother was staring at.
In front of them stood a fairly huge demon--the same one from the job's folder. The creature was similar to a centaur; however, a lizard (or demon) had been thrown into the mix as well.
A large spear was held by one of its three-fingered hands. On the body, there were three sets of violet claws; the legs of which were covered in a thick dark midnight blue fur with bits of sky blue streaks scattered throughout. Three maroon-scaled tails protruded from the back of the creature, a thin cerulean membrane trailing up the middle of each topside and trailing up the base of the creature’s skull.
Layered scales, colored the same as the tail’s, ran up the underbelly, body, and torso of the demon. Pale teal-green scaled skin was exposed through the frontline of the torso, showing off a muscular structure similar to that of a human.
Continuing up those scales led you to the head of the beast. It was similar in shape to a human’s but had seven eyes of pure milky white which filled the entire front due to the lack of a mouth. Extending from the sides of the face, there were clay-grey semi-transparent frills--appearing very much like a frilled lizard’s--that ran from the underside of the jaw up to a set of horns that the frills connected to.
Dante nudged Vergil, “Man, I thought Lady’s demon form was ugly--theirs takes the cake. Good job using that nose of yours and finding your mate, good thing you--” he stopped noticing his brother’s glazed-over stare.
Vergil was paying no mind to Dante or anything around him. His eyes were focused on the trinket that was embedded right in between the creature’s collar bones, nestled deep in the suprasternal notch. His blood ran cold as he would know that jewelry anywhere; it was his amulet half--the one he had gifted you on your anniversary nearly a year ago. He stood, unmoving--not even taking deep enough breaths to move his chest. Everything in him told him to fight the capsule of a demon in front of him; yet, he couldn’t bring himself to.
Tumblr media
Dante, however, was paralyzed by neither fear, grief, nor anger; he was actually glad they finally found you. Giving one last glance at his, still very frozen, brother Dante moved into the large space--drawing the demon’s attention.
“So,” he started, “this is where you’ve been hanging out, huh? ‘Place is kind of a drag if you ask me,”  Curiously, the demon slowly approached Dante, staring at him, “You ain’t gotta make this hard--just lay that big stick down and let us-” he looked back at Vergil, who still hadn’t moved, “or well let me get you outta there. Whaddya say?”
It stood in front of the younger brother for a moment then turned its head to look at Vergil. Without even returning their attention back to Dante, they punted the younger brother across the room with one swing of its paw. A loud crack emanated from the force of him hitting--and going through--the wall.
“Son of a Bitch…” With a groan, Dante slowly stood back up, “And I’m supposed to believe you’re the same person that gives me shit for my hugs.”
Digging his heels into the ground, Dante took off running. He raised his Devil Sword as he got within striking distance; however, the demon only backhanded him, sending him flying once more. The creature still hadn’t torn its gaze from Vergil; it almost seemed as if it was trying to place the eldest son. Dante attempted to strike again, only to be hit away for a third time.
The eldest son’s mind was racing; between infinite anger that spiraled to the deepest darkest depths of his demon and immense guilt for not protecting you eating at his human consciousness--Vergil, for the first time in a long time, was completely frozen. He was your boyfriend, your lover, your mate; he should’ve been there to protect you: instead, you ended up suffering something that he wouldn’t wish upon anyone.
“Okay, you bastard,” Dante sniffled as blood began to drip from his nose, pulling out Ivory & Ebony, “Let’s try this, shall we?”
Upon feeling the bullets hit the side of their legs, the demon turned to Dante--finally breaking their piercing staredown. It trotted towards Dante and swung its spear, only missing Dante by mere inches. He jumped onto the spear and ran up it, still firing the twin pistols. The creature used its free hand to grab Dante; moving much faster than the devil hunter had expected, and began to constrict him.
“Heh, you got quite the--,” he let out a strained groan, “quite the grip.”
Dante struggled a bit trying to loosen the demon’s grip. He couldn’t focus like this and, if he couldn’t focus, triggering (in any capacity) was off the table. So, Dante did what any younger sibling would do; he started to yell for his big brother.
“Vergil-- I could use a hand here!” Dante’s body started to ache from the pressure, “God damn it! VERGIL!”
The loud shouting from his baby brother pulled Vergil from his thoughts. He looked up at Dante and started moving. The demon’s attention was now drawn to the sudden movement of the oldest brother and ever-so-slightly loosened its grip. Not wanting to waste the chance, Dante quickly triggered; making the demon drop the lava-hot Dante.
“He-hey! Nice to see you finally helping out,” Dante rolled avoiding the large spear.
Glaring over at Dante, Vergil teleported near the creature’s ankle and sliced it with Mirage Edge; coating him with the creature’s blood.
Vergil moved to Dante’s side taking advantage of the few moments of reprieve the attack gave them.
“So, got any ideas?” Dante tried to wipe some of the blood off of Vergil’s face using his coat; however, Vergil harshly swatted away his hand.
Vergil’s brow furrowed, “Its front and neck would be the best places to try and cut it open; given its scales might be much thicker than I think…”
Dante twitched his head to the side in a nod, the ghost of a smirk tugging at the corners of his lips, “Better than nothing. Shall we?”
The twins decided to split, each going opposite ways. Confused about what to do, it followed Dante with its body while attempting to use its tails and back paws to hit Vergil.
Dante took another large hit and created another crater in the wall. He fell to the ground catching himself at the last moment, coming to rest in a kneel. He took a moment to wipe some blood that had begun to drip from his mouth.
A large heavy object slammed into Dante, it was Vergil. The two of them hit the wall together, Vergil’s weight only shoving Dante further into the already-created crater: they both were going to be sore after this.
They both removed themselves from the wall and stood side by side, both slouching slightly.
With a growl-covered groan, Vergil’s eyes sharpened their gaze upon the demon, “You still have a trigger left in you, brother?” his breath had become slightly ragged.
Despite his exhaustion, Dante clapped back with his typical sarcastic tone, “Always--you sure you wanna use yours?” Dante straightened his posture.
Vergil flicked out his arm on the side opposite Dante, summoning his doppelgänger, “For this, yes.”
There was a flash of light and the two were both in their Sin Triggers. It was quite the sight, one that only would occur when the brothers were fighting themselves. Neither of them had to tell the other what the plan was; perks of being twins as Dante would say.
Taking the same approach as before, they spilt ways--Doppel following beside Vergil.
The demon was confused and turning itself around in circles over how many fast-moving targets it was now presented with. Vergil and Doppel managed to keep the creature’s attention long enough that Dante was able to get behind the creature’s head. With great strength, Dante grabbed the creature’s horns and pulled its head back. He did his best to keep it steady; however, it thrashed like a bull and unexpectedly was able to shake Dante around. Seeing his brother struggling, Vergil sent Doppel to assist him. With the two both pulling on the creature in opposite directions, the thrashing slowed.
Seizing the opportunity, Vergil shot up the midline of the torso cutting along it with the Yamato. Once he reached the bottom of the amulet, he stopped and fell back to the ground calling back Doppel; Dante followed suit.
They both stood as humans, having exhausted their demonic energy, staring with bated breath. The demon’s midline showed the cut; however, nothing was happening.
“Verge ain’t--” Dante’s face went pale after turning towards his older brother.
Vergil looked pissed, no, he looked beyond pissed. His grip had tightened on the Yamato so hard his knuckles were turning colors. Without warning, Vergil triggered himself once more and took off toward the demon; this time, however, the creature wasn’t being held back by others.
He jumped off of the spear that had been swung and avoided the other hand’s attempt at grabbing the blue devil. His speed was unimaginable as he was instantaneously on top of the demon’s head. With great effort, he plunged Mirage Edge deep into the scaly skin and tissues of the creature. Swiftly, he yanked the blade down the middle of the face, down the throat, and stopped above the necklace. With one of his forearm blades, Vergil gouged out the amulet and tore it from its resting place.
A large amount of blood began to spew from the new incision. Vergil was thrown violently from the beast as it began to flail about. A plume of blue energy emitted from the man as he hit the floor--hard. Dante ran over to the hole containing the other twin with slight concern. The once again human, Vergil lay unmoving in the newly-formed crater as Dante slid down to his brother’s side.
“Hey, you’re not dead--right?” the red demon poked Vergil slightly.
Vergil slowly opened his eyes and glared up at Dante, “It will take much more to kill me,” he sat up and groaned quietly in pain, “I assure you, little brother.”
Dante laughed and offered a hand to help Vergil up; which, normally he wouldn’t accept but today Vergil was too exhausted to fuss over such things.
Upon exiting the crater they found the demon laying on its belly like a resting horse, slowly bleeding out from Vergil’s second attack.
Vergil moved to finish it off but was stopped by Dante’s forearm, “Allow me.”
Dante carefully used his Devil Sword and re-cut over the Yamato’s shallow slice. Although the demon was dying, it did put up somewhat of a fight by swinging its hands and claws at Dante; all the while, its gaze found Vergil’s again--who was slowly approaching the suffering creature.
“Just die already, you son-of-a-bitch,” Dante growled through his teeth as he dug his sword further into the demon’s stomach, making it shout an ear-piercing sad cry; which sounded almost human-- Vergil did his best to ignore that part.
The demonic corpse dissolved slowly. Vergil had made it to his brother’s side as he watched the disintegration before them. He bent over and picked up the amulet that he had dropped while being thrown around. With a gentle sigh, Vergil placed it into his pocket and stood back up.
The pair's attention was now drawn to where the head of the beast once lay. In its place, you were laying there; naked and dead to the world. At first, the brothers thought you were actually dead but then they heard your faint heartbeat and took a sigh of relief.
Vergil’s expression was a strange mixture of joy, anger, and sadness. He walked over to you, his steps were cautious and silent. Once by your side, Vergil removed his coat, gently wrapped you in it, and picked you up. His brief moment of solace was interrupted by a large tremor.
“Hey, uh, Verge--” Dante quickly moved to his brother’s side, “You gonna be able to get us outta here?”
Vergil paused for a moment giving thought to whether he could or not, “Yes,” he pursed his lips.
Dante noticed his hesitation and was going to question him; however, the younger brother quickly put together why. “Vergil, hand them to me--you can’t use Yamato like that.”
“No, I--” another tremor broke off a part of the ceiling nearby, “Fine.”
Vergil handed you over to Dante and pulled out the Yamato. With a deep breath, he sliced open a portal and traversed through with Dante right behind him.
Once out of the other side, Vergil didn’t even give Dante a chance to think before ripping you from him. Vergil knows that Dante wouldn’t dare hurt you, however, he had an overwhelming urge to keep you far from anyone besides himself.
Dante looked around and scratched the stubble on his jaw, “Uh, Vergil… This ain’t the shop,” the pair was standing where they had entered nearly twelve hours prior.
With a low mumble, Vergil avoided looking at Dante, “I don’t have the energy for that…”
Dante bit his tongue hard--all he wanted to do was poke fun at Vergil and would have if Vergil was in a better headspace. Instead, he just simply nodded at Vergil, “Well… I can call a ride if you want..? I’m sure Nico wouldn’t mind picking us up--given she’ll want a cut of the pay.”
“She can have my half; I got what I came for,” money was the furthest thing from the blue devil's mind, all he could think about was that he finally had you back.
     “Alright--you sure you’re okay with--”
     “Yes.”
Dante let out a small ‘heh’ and pulled out his very well-protected phone.
Nico showed up around an hour later. Once stopped, the door swung open, and out strode Nero.
He looked over at his father and uncle, who were sitting on a ledge and the floor respectively.
“Holy shit, you actually found them? Nico said that Dante-- I didn’t believe her…” Nero extended a hand to help the very sore Dante off the ground. Without so much as a nod to his son, Vergil got into the van.
Dante groaned and cracked his back, “Don’t take it personally, kid. Vergil’s in a weird mood.”
“What happened? I saw the folder that was thrown on the floor of the garage, but--” the pair began to walk to the van side-by-side, “I don’t get how you knew.”
“When we get back… or after I take a hot shower and nap… I’ll fill you in on the details at some point,” Dante slumped down on the couch in the van that was opposite Vergil.
Before Nero could protest at Dante’s wait time, the younger twin was sound asleep--even snoring a little.
With everyone in the van, Nico began to drive; despite Nero still standing. Before the youngest Sparda descendant went up to his seat, he turned to Vergil, “You uh… gonna be okay?” Nero felt awkward asking the typically stoic man such an out-of-character question.
Vergil looked up at Nero with a confused tilt to his brow then back down to you, “In time, yes.”
Nero nodded--shocked that he got anything other than ‘yes’ or the silent treatment--and went up to the passenger seat for the rest of the quiet ride back to the shop.
==
The moment the van stopped; even before Nico had turned off the ignition, Vergil got up and was out the van door. He thinks he heard someone say something as he left, but he didn’t care. All he wanted right now was to be in his room with you in his arms. Quickly and quietly he headed up the stairs and into his room.
The eldest son prides himself on being the cleanest member of the Sparda line; however with you being gone, he had stopped caring about such trivial things. The room had quite a few sets of worn and unworn outfits strewn about. Several cups of half-drank liquids sat on various tabletops. The room wasn't messy by normal standards but Vergil was far from "normal".
He walked over to his bed. Vergil moved you so he could support your body with one arm and fixed the disheveled mess that was his bed. Once satisfied, he set you down on the bedding; he noticed that you were filthy --which wasn’t surprising due to what had occurred.
Vergil hesitantly left his room to get some warm water, rags, and some medical supplies. It took him a moment to figure out what to grab--he wasn’t the best at treating wounds, he hasn’t ever needed to know such things; so he was as methodical as possible. Seeing how Vergil was struggling to find what he needed, Nero silently helped his father gather what was needed. Vergil gave Nero a solid nod in acknowledgment of his help.
Upon returning to his room, Vergil began to gently wash your dirt and blood-ridden skin. While doing so, he noticed his hands had begun to shake. Furrowing his brow and pursing his lips in confusion, he stopped momentarily. Vergil never shakes, so what was going on?
Using exhaustion as an explanation, he dismissed it with a shake of his head. Vergil continued to clean your body. You had visibly become slimmer from the several months of entrapment. His eyes moved up to your face, you were still sound asleep but he noticed that you looked deathly sick.
He took the rag and rung it out. Your body was cleaned; however,  you were still covered in wounds. Vergil knew that he couldn’t do anything for the copious amounts of bruises you had, so he moved to take care of several burn marks you had obtained; most of which were around your neck from Dante pulling on your demonic prison. Vergil put some burn cream onto his fingers and softly rubbed it on the marks. Letting out a shaky sigh, he moved on to the last thing he had to tend to before dressing you.
The Yamato might not have mortality wounded your capsule, but it seemed to have nicked your midline all the way up--the cut was too thin and clean to have been from Dante’s Devil Sword. After wiping his hands off, he applied an antibiotic gel along the cut. If you had been awake, you would have cussed him out, no doubt. The thought brought a small smirk to Vergil’s face.
He grabbed the gauze and began to dress the wound; however, Vergil stopped. His vision had become blurry and his mind went blank. During these past four months, he had cried a few times, but it was always controlled and well-restrained.
Right now, though? He felt like screaming. He felt like weeping until he became ill. All he wanted to hear was your voice, to feel your lips on his face, to be held as he sobbed uncontrollably. Vergil felt like a little kid again; alone and afraid of losing those he loves. A whimpering hiccup brought him out of his thoughts as he looked up at you. Confusion sunk in as he saw you were still fast asleep.
He froze. The noise had come from him. Vergil tried to suppress his tears; he hard-shut his eyes, tried angrily furrowing his brow, and even tried looking upwards; nothing worked.
Nothing could stop the storm of pitiful tears that leaked from his tired eyes. So, he worked through them and finished patching you up the best the blue devil could.
Another strained whimper left his lips as he straightened himself back up. You didn’t live at the DMC with the brothers, so Vergil did not have any of your clothes. He knew he couldn’t just leave you naked (since anyone could walk in and see you) so he rustled through his clothing. Vergil didn’t have much in the sense of “casual” clothes which made this difficult.
Eventually, he decided on a pair of loose-fitting jeans and a sleeveless black turtleneck. He managed to get you into the much-too-big clothing and tucked you into the duvet of his bed.
Vergil spent the rest of the night by your side holding your hand as he quietly grieved.
==
Sunlight spilled into the dark room through the slightly ajar curtains. It was nearly noon and Vergil hadn’t moved from his spot next to you. Nero and Dante had both peaked in to check on you and the visibly exhausted hunter a few times… which they only got stared at in response.
The blue devil could hear your heart and your breathing just fine; but, was unable to keep himself from thinking you weren’t going to make it. He had convinced himself that this whole ordeal was his fault.
“Maybe if you hadn’t had such a noticeable trinket on you wouldn’t have been taken.” he thought, “or was it because you have been associated with our cursed bloodline that this happened?”
He felt a stinging in his eyes start once more, “I should have been there. It is my job to protect you and keep you safe. I failed you just like I have to everyone else,” his lips quivered as his breath stuttered, “Perhaps you would be better off without me,” Vergil’s chest heaved and his face twisted into a grimace. Once more, he had lost control of his emotions as he unintentionally tightened his grip on your hand.
“You trying to break my fingers?” a hoarse sarcastic voice snapped Vergil to attention. You had woken up and were staring at him with a gentle concerned crease of your brow.
Without a word, Vergil pulled you into a tight hug. Even if he wanted to say anything, he couldn’t; not in the distraught state he was in. Although you were still weak, you began to rub his back as you hugged. You relished in his scent and touch; something that felt like a distant memory while ensnared in the demon’s body.
“Miss me?” you heard and felt him shutter. He pushed further into you making you acutely aware of the large slice on your midsection, “Ow, fuck--”
Vergil left the hug upon realizing what happened and, still unable to speak, pointed to your torso. With unsteady hands, you rolled up the very loose black fabric, “Oh…”
Pulling the shirt back down, you looked at Vergil. His face was puffy and his eyes were bloodshot with prominent tear stains running down his face. Slowly you reached for your lover’s face and gently thumbed one of the tears from his cheek.
Vergil grabbed your hand and held it to his lips, just setting them against your cold skin. His expression was a mixture of painful sadness and overbearing happiness. A crease formed on his brow as he shut his eyes tightly. You could see Vergil trying to piece together what to say.
A few brief moments passed before he spoke, scarcely louder than a whisper, “I thought…” you felt his lips shake against your clammy skin, “I thought you were…” Vergil couldn’t bring himself to finish his words.
You sadly smiled as you used your held hand to thumb over his stiff fingers, “and leave you alone? Not in a million years, Vergil.”
The tremble in his lips worsened as his lips gently kissed your hand, stifling a whimper.
After he let go of your hand, you moved to sit on the edge of the bed allowing your feet to dangle off the side, “Come here..?” you beckoned to your unraveling lover.
“Are you sure--I do not want to hurt you again,” his response was sheepish and meek.
Not taking no for an answer, you grabbed his hand and pulled him onto your lap. Having the large devil on your lap would have typically been uncomfortable; but, your want to hold him and comfort him in such a distraught state overrode every other thought.
He hesitantly straddled your lap. You noticed his uncertainty and gently pulled him closer, “Let me hold you, please?” you were trying to reassure him.
Which seems to have worked; he hastily put his arms around you. He held on tightly grabbing wads of the loose shirt’s fabric as if he were actively being pulled off of you. Since he was taller than you, his head rested atop yours. The side of your face was resting on his chest and your arms were wrapped around him as you began to rub his back once more.
The man’s breathing became ragged as he fought with himself and his emotions.
“Vergil, it’s going to be okay,” you lovingly rubbed your face against his chest, hearing his heart racing, “you can let go now.”
This small set of words finally undid the eldest son of Sparda.
You had seen Vergil cry before, but only in small quiet amounts; never as raw and shattered as this. The hunter began to shake within your grasp. The only noise coming from the man was loud uncontrolled sobs and sharp breathing. His grip on the shirt had become a death grip; holding on tight enough to rip through the tightly woven fabric. A deep rumble came from his chest as it seemed even his demon was crying out in anguish.
Deep within, you knew that these tears were for much more than your own disappearance. You knew that this strong soul had finally reached a breaking point. Closing your eyes, you pushed yourself into him and held him tightly, whispering sweet words of comfort to him. Gently and slowly, you kneaded against his back with your hands; knowing that it would comfort the blue devil.
Eventually, his cries slowed and his grip loosened.  Vergil’s body shifted as he longingly kissed the top of your head. Letting out a heavy sigh and shutter, he leaned back. You smiled at him. Vergil smiled in return, his eyes creased at the edges pushing the few remaining tears from his eyes. He took one of his hands and placed it on your bicep. The other found its way to your face. He thumbed over your cheek and lips with an undertone of uncertainty and disbelief; that this was real, that you were home.
You leaned into the warmth of his palm, “I missed you too, Vergil…” a wave of a soft sadness mixed with love washed over you, “so very much.”

ENDING NOTES: Hope y’all like the art with this one--admittedly this would’ve been done much sooner if I hadn’t decided to add that. The scales and all textures are not things I drew; they are all sampled from real things--the feet, for example, are textured using orange peel(s). All colors (except the maroon scales) are from Nelo Angelo and both of Vergil’s sin triggers--I did change some saturations, but the basis for them is all from the stoic man’s palettes. ⏳⏳⏳ I swear the next thing is not going to be more angsty/sad Vergil. I actually was writing this alongside “What Would They Think”--I’d get bored with one and write some for the other lol. Hopefully, you enjoyed this story! Much love y’all (I’m thinking something with V or Nero next; which, Nero’s H/Cs are the hardest thing for me to write for some fucking reason lmao idk what is going on with that.)
==
Bonus short story that I wrote as a warm-up; post story stuff:
==
Nero walked down the stairs of the Devil May Cry with a prominent dejected expression. With a small bounce to his step, the youngest Sparda descendant walked towards the fridge; however, an ‘ahem’ cough caught his attention.
J.D. Morrison was sitting on the edge of Dante’s desk smoking his typical stogie. The said owner of the desk was sitting there with a manilla folder in hand, staring at Nero.
Dante set the folder down, “So--” he leaned back in his chair, “How is he?”
Nero quickly glanced between the two, unsure of what he should and could say in front of the company broker.
The red devil raised a brow, “Well?”
“Uh-” Nero centered himself into Dante’s view, “He’s okay. Nothing’s really changed much.”
Dante slowly nodded and bit his tongue in thought for a moment, “... They awake?”
“No, doesn’t seem like they’ve even moved.”
“Damn it,” the younger twin sighed, “Let’s hope they do soon; I can’t stand seeing him like that.”
Nero shrugged, “At least Vergil’s not going to be a dick anymore.”
Dante laughed, “Careful, you might jinx us.” he grabbed the folder he had previously been paging through, “Interested in doing a job with me--takin’ Verge’s place for now?”
Nero took the folder from his uncle. After paging through it and reading it a bit Nero smiled slightly, “Sure, why not. Anything to get me out of here.”
“Good--” Dante turned his attention to Morrison, “We’ll take it.”
The broker smiled, “Glad to hear it. When--”
A loud abrupt noise cut off J.D.’s question. It had come from above them and Nero bolted to the stairs.
“Wait! Nero-” Dante got up fast enough to knock his chair over. He tackled Nero into the wall, preventing his ascension upward, “Stop.”
“Let go of me!” Nero shoved Dante off of him.
Dante put Nero in a sloppy cradle pin; holding him still, “Listen for a minute.”
The young hunter stopped struggling. He furrowed his brow as he whispered, “Is that crying? ”
With the same volume, Dante responded, “Yeah, it’s from Vergil.”
They untangled from the floor and stood up. Both of them decided to grab their gear before Dante acknowledged the semi-confused Morrison, “Let’s take this somewhere else--give Vergil his privacy.”
“Fine by me,” he stood up from the desk, “Although it would be nice to get an explanation once we leave.”
Dante nodded with an unintentional smile, “Not much to say… Just a long overdue reunion.”
==
ENDING NOTES (FOR THE SECOND STORY): I figure that Vergil and Dante might not get along per se, but are able to be kind of nice to each other. Giving each other support or defense when needed; they are family after all. (This is why Dante wants to leave)

𝒃𝒂𝒑𝒉𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕 — kuroro x f!reader. 433. drabble.
when you read this, you’ll know what vine inspired it. reader and kuroro have a son (beowulf) who is so excited about going to the petting zoo.
Tumblr media
Kuroro doesn’t know how he’s gotten to this point in his life. Well, he does. He remembers it very fondly. But, in the overarching scheme of the universe, he doesn’t understand how he’s gotten here.
“Two adult tickets and one child’s ticket,” Kuroro says into the little microphone inlaid in a plastic barrier. It’s still cool out, and the zoo is already loud. There’s at least two summer camps here, along with a variety of families who are also trying to beat the heat.
The worker takes his money in exchange for the tickets, which he gratefully takes.
You’re sitting under a statue of an elephant, feeding your son a handful of cheerios. Well, he’s both of yours— With a mess of black hair and your eyes. It still feels like yesterday that Kuroro cried tears of joy that he had your eyes instead of his.
Beo, eyes alight with joy, offers some of his Cheerios to Kuroro the moment his father steps near him.
“You need your energy,” Kuroro says, then remembers what you told him about training manners, “But thank you.”
Unperturbed, Beowulf continues his snacking.
“Get the tickets?” You ask, tilting your head back to see Kuroro.
Kuroro raises them up to show you. “Right here.”
You smile, placing the small container of cereal back into your bag. “Let’s get going.” You turn to Beo with a smile, “You ready to go see the animal?”
Beo nods, clumsily sliding off the stone but landing on two feet. “Ready to see a cow! Moo!”
No matter how much you had tried to explain to Beo that there wouldn’t be cows at the zoo, it still didn’t help. Maybe there would be some at the petting zoo.
The petting zoo is the main attraction, after all. It’s the part that Beo hadn’t been able to stop talking about— The entire way on the train or for the past week.
Once inside, Beo’s eyes are wide as can be, his mouth opened in a tiny gasp.
“Do you like it, bubba?” You ask, squatting down next to him and rubbing his back.
Beo nods, lost for words. He then totters off, towards a black goat, giggling happily.
“Papa, look!” Beo calls, pointing at it. “It’s Baphomet!”
Kuroro can’t help but grin at that. “Is it?”
“Kuroro!” You hiss at him.
Kuroro flashes you a smile and a wink, walking over to his son. He bends over slightly.
“Want to pet it?” He asks, “Gentle hands, just like Mama said.”
Beo giggles the entire time, happily running his sweaty, soft palms over the animal.

Helena.......my lovely, dearest, darling Helena, I can't thank you enough for putting up with me in such a short amount of time. I know I send in an ask once a day, but as always, thank you for letting me do so, you, Becca and so many others are the absolute best!!!
I was still thinking about Teacher!Bob x Teacher!Reader doing that joint literary history class on the Vikings and about the poor cat at home having a few sticky notes stuck to her (lol). I'd imagine too that both you and Bob are really big on the immersive learning with your students so when you do read from the Sagas, Beowulf or even from the ones from Finland, Bob will set up one of those little electric campfires that has flickering lights, make the room dark enough for the campfire and absolutely loves it when the snow is falling outside.
Bob's also very big on the visual learning so with the chalkboard in the classroom, he'll do these really impressive chalkboard drawings alongside the notes of the day. He even brings in the old, battered books which your students love the smell of (he swore it got one of the students to quit sniffing Sharpies all day long, lol).
*BONUS*
I did put it in the reblog last night, but I imagine that when the school signs up for the trips abroad to Europe, you, Bob and the other teachers get to take the kids to Norway, Sweden and Denmark. One of Bob's bucket list places was in Norway and is known as "The Troll's Tongue". I'm not sure if you've ever been but it's near Odda and it's in the middle of this giant fjord (I swear to God this place was the inspiration for Anduin in Lord of the Rings) and it's a long, flat topped rock structure on the cliff that juts out over the river and is about 2,000 ft off the ground. Needless to say, you loved it because Bob was there with you, but damn if those heights didn't freak you out (lol).
Okay, I love this so much!!! My ability to string together a coherent sentence is questionable right now (it's after midnight lol), so forgive me if I don't make a lot of sense.
I believe in Bob is a cat person supremacy. It's a black cat that was the runt of the litter and she runs around the house with bright pink post-its attached to her fur. You and Bob set up camp in the library with hot coffee, blankets, the cat, books, the electric fire while wind rustles the windows of your old home and snow falls like blanket on the ground. He's so ridiculously in love with you, and every time he thinks he can't love you more, he looks at you and feels his heart swell. And yes, you do get down and dirty in that home library. I'm not saying your first kid was conceived there, but...
I have not actually heard of Trolltunga, but I looked it up and damn if it isn't the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen. It looks incredible. You and Bob encourage the kids to explore while staying safe, and he sees you with the students and knows he's found the one. He holds your hand, kisses your cheek and even sneaks one to your lips, but the kids catch you start singing the song about kissing in a tree. It's cute and you laugh. His cheeks go red from the cold and you make sure to pull his woolen hat down over his ears to protect them.
I just love this AU so much, and while it's not something I'll write, I do adore talking about it. I have my work cut out for me enough with librarian!Bob and eccentric professor!Bob.

Erotic Medievalisms: Medieval Pleasures Empowering Marginalized People. By Elan Justice Pavlinich. Routledge, 2023.
Rating: 3.5/5 stars
Genre: literary criticism
Part of a Series? No
Summary: Erotic Medievalisms is about the liberatory potential of sexualities, particularly as they relate to medieval histories and modern pleasures. Each of the texts analyzed within subvert norms rooted in medieval cultures or assumptions about the "real" Middle Ages, constructing queer histories that blur the lines between fantasy and authenticity. These medievalisms extend eroticisms and erogenous zones beyond normative limits of pleasure. Moreover, situating these diverse iterations of desire within the medieval past emends narrowly-constructed histories that limit the erotic fantasies and experiences of marginalized people.
***Full review below.***
Since this book is nonfiction, my review will be organized a little differently than usual.
Full disclosure: The author is a personal friend of mine, and I provided initial feedback/comments on the introduction and conclusion of this book (though not the chapters). So my review will inherently contain some bias.
The main argument of this book is that non-normative sex acts in medieval-inspired pop culture allow for the radical inclusion of queer and BIPOC people in a cultural/historical narrative from which they are typically excluded. Pavlinich looks at four main pieces of medievalism: Santiago Garcia and David Rubin's Beowulf, Lil Nas X's "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)," Patience Agbabi's "The Kiss," and medieval-inspired aesthetics and devices in contemporary BDSM. Each chapter compares the contemporary work to a medieval counterpart and is supported by an extensive bibliography of critical theorists and literary scholarship.
Pavlinich's book is at its strongest when performing "close reading." I was extremely impressed by the insights Pavlinich offered when showing the reader little details about the text (or video or what have you) that I might have otherwise overlooked. Some of these reading are also incredibly clever; I would have never thought, for example, to make a linguistic comparison between the Old English com and the modern English cum, much less dissect how bodily fluids function the same way in the graphic novel as the dread of Grendel's arrival in the medieval poem.
That being said, I do think Pavlinich's voice gets buried under the secondary scholarship. Pavlinich cites a lot of sources, and while some of them are vital for making sure a point is convincing and well-founded, I almost get the impression that the author was counting on established scholarship to do much of the heavy lifting. At multiple points in the book, Pavlinich would make a good observation, but instead of exploring the implications further, he would back off and zoom out to show what other people have said about a similar topic. In general, I think I would have much rather liked to see Pavlinich keep the secondary sources contained and spend more time elevating his own voice. That way, the secondary sources wouldn't just be mapped onto the primary texts, but Pavlinich could show how each text "speaks back" to theory (in other words, Pavlinich's voice would be elevated by showing how his close readings may be explained by theory, but also how theory can be changed by his close readings).
I also think there are a couple areas of the book that could use more close reading to help sell a point. For example, in the chapter on "Montero," Pavlinich claims that the final act of the music video depicts Lil Nas X as a harrower of hell, a queer Black savior performing an imitatio christi. Personally, I don't think I was convinced with this argument because the chapter simply asserts it to be true and doesn't make a case using the visuals of the video. How is LNX a savior and not rejecting salvation (by becoming the king of hell himself - the archtempter), especially when salvation is predicated on whiteness and straightness (as Pavlinich establishes elsewhere in the chapter)? How do we know LNX isn't reveling in damnation? A few other spots in the book are like that, which surprised me because when Pavlinich does perform close reading, his insights are good. I just wish that strength had been deployed more often.
In short, this book is a good intro to interrogating the medievalism of pop culture artifacts that are understudied by institutional scholarship. While I do think Pavlinich can elevate his own voice further, I would love to see future work from him and see what other insights he can bring by applying queer theory to medievalism.

The greatest disservice adults do for kids is the insistence that adults know better about what kids can handle.
I first read the Sherlock Holmes canon in elementary school, along with the junior classics series. My favorite books in middle school were 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Harry Potter. In high school, I read Peyton Place, Lolita, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrel, and Jimmy Buffett's Where Is Joe Merchant?.
Kids should be able to read anything they want. They should also be able to have someone they trust to talk to about what they've read if they want to. They also should be able to say, "I don't like this book" and have the option to stop reading it without shaming.
The corollary to "let kids read what they choose" is also "let them decide not to read what they choose without consequences"*. The goal is to treat kids like the autonomous beings they are.
Seriously, let kids read what they want. If they don't like the book, they should be able to put it down and stop!
Like abstinence only sex education, the more you tell someone they CAN'T do a thing, the more likely they will do it anyway AND will not do it safely AND will feel deep shame and guilt around having done it to begin with. That's not healthy! If you want kids to read, let them read anything they want!!
Also, the argument that books are like websites and you wouldn't let your kids go to just any site, like—
My sibling in Satan, that's literally how I grew up. Let kids go to the Forbidden Sites! Kids should be allowed to see things they don't understand! It's fine! Let them do what we did in the early internet and lie about their ages. Let them find the smut fics and the erotic fanart.
The key is you can't punish them for having done so!
Kids are not Good Behavior Machines. They are tiny people. Growing people. And people need to be able to make mistakes AND learn that mistakes are fine! Mistakes are normal! Mistakes are how we learn and develop!
A kid should be able to follow their internet threads to the Weird Site and be able to say, "Yep, I'm out of my depth here", and close it, AND be able to tell their trusted adult about it if they want to without the adult punishing them for natural curiosity.
"Let kids be kids", yes, but actually let them do it. Let them learn and stumble and need help and get help and learn discernment for themselves. Kids should be fully able to say "I'm into this" or "Nope, not for me" WITHOUT punishment for either.
Jesus fuck, it's like y'all don't remember being kids.
[*In before "what about assignments?" because I know reading comprehension is shit here, that applies there, too. There were so many books I had to read in school that I hated, and I was the most avid reader in school. The problem with them wasn't that I had to read them, necessarily, but that I had to read them a certain way. It was not allowed to get ahead of the class when we read A Tale of Two Cities. Reading Beowulf would have been fine if I'd been able to do it at my pace. Was Catcher In The Rye with the group really so important that I couldn't have been reading something I enjoyed afterwards as a chaser?
That's not even getting into how my classes had "reading assignments" where you had to keep track of your reading per week and then be quizzed on what you read. We had to have slips signed by our parents to say that we did read X amount of time. I had mine filled out ahead of time (because, as I said, I never stopped reading ever), until the teacher started changing the paper the slips were printed on to a different color each month specifically so we couldn't do that. Like, my gal, what do you think you're teaching us? I should not need to give you "proof" that I'm reading, you have to keep telling me to focus in class BECAUSE I'm reading something else.]
There is genuinely no such thing as an inappropriate book for a child.
