Kai no Kiseki Prologue English Summary

Table of Contents

Hey all, I will be doing summaries for the game like i did with Kuro 2.

I might be busy so I will try to update the blog frequently.

The opening scene takes place in May 1209 at Calvard's Space Force base, where the Independent II rocket is launched with the Prometheus IV satellite attached. Two months later, on July 8th, we see Van, Feri, and Bergard engaged in training exercises at Marduk's headquarters in Ored State. They’re being monitored by a voice (later being revealed as Kasim). They’re in competition with another team called “Y-Team” while Van and his group are the “X-Team.”

The training facility is called the VARHALA sector, which combines VR, AR, and is based off the term Valhalla. Meanwhile, Altina, Kevin, Rean, and others are also participating in the same exercise. Altina is geeking out about the technology of MK compared to anything in Erebonia and it’s implied that it’s possibly even harder than Professor Schmidt’s training from the CS games. Rean praises Kevin and Kevin mentions that he’s honored that a Divine Blade is praising little old him. Kevin mentions that he’s actually met Rean before at the wedding but, but never directly spoke with him much, but heard all sorts of things from Gaius. Kevin deduces that Rean is on some kind of top-secret-mission, and Rean spills the beans to Kevin. Kevin is honored again and wonders why, and Rean explains that it’s that he feels he can trust him if he’s Estelle and Gaius’s friend.

Altina starts geeking out that the Holy City is also working on new military efforts for a new airship, but she’s cut off by Kevin saying “Hey that’s top secret!”

Mirabel is overwatching them as they speak about their past briefly, mentioning that she knows a whole lot, and Kevin is surprised a girl like her knows all the Church’s dirty laundry and inner conflicts. Altina funnily mentions that they’re both speaking weird (In Japanese, this is Kansai-ben) and that it’s similar to a classmate Rean used to have when he was in Thors as a student, referring to Becky.

Rean deduces that there’s another team also in the exercise, using his Minds Eye ability and is able to sense the numbers, but not exactly who it is. Kevin is impressed. Kevin’s also impressed that Altina’s shield, a modified Claiomh Solais can speak!

As the teams progress through the training, they meet up and exchange greetings. They discuss their past relationships and learn that Van knows Rean from his reputation. Mirabel interrupts to remind them that this is still a training exercise and more combatants are added to the field.

Risette and Crow join, and so does Rufus and Lapis. The groups are divided into two teams for a boss battle against Bergard, Risette, Crow Armbrust, Rufus Albarea, and Lapis.

The XY-Team narrowly secures victory with Van using the Kuro 2 S-Craft, and everyone compliments each other on their fight.

Afterward, Gilliam Thorndyke appears with a live camera feed to note that he's pleased with the new combat mechanics used in the exercise. He also reveals that Meister Jorg asked him to test Lapis' new body during the battle. Finally, everyone is invited to join Thorndyke for a banquet.

We are then serviced with a flashback of Gramheart back to the day of April 13th, explaining his Startaker Plan, stating it’s been under development for more than two years, and this will greatly benefit the country as a whole, as well as possibly helping out the Eastern parts of the continent too, which has been in turmoil and conflict for about a hundred years.

During this segment, it’s revealed that Daniel Harling is in charge of the operation, with the first phase of the plan is to be launching the satellite, while the second phase will be to send a manned launch into space, and the first astronaut to do so will be Harling’s daughter named Emilia Harling (Hermes from Kuro games), who is actually a former ace pilot.

It switches then to everyone reacting, Renne understanding now why the Ikaruga are defending the mountains where the operation is under development.

Agnes being mysterious mutters to herself that the announcement is a shock, but she’s glad that she can work with everyone again. But she needs to pay more close attention to her Father. Feri takes notice and Agnes was saying she was just spacing out and thinking about how to give it her all and tries to distract the subject by dragging Feri to go shopping. Quatre blushing also wants to go shopping, and Aaron can read the room and tells Quatre to go for it and he’ll also tag along. Judith responds that since she’s a movie star, she’ll give them the scoop of all the latest fashion trends! Group shopping!

Van is doing his classic “Good grief…” During the flash forwards, everyone drops by the Office, Shizuna included, scaring Van, and fast forwarding again, Agnes gets a secret message on her phone from Hamilton who she looks at it, away from everyone.

Fast forward back to present day with Rean, Rean talks that he was surprised Crow accepted a contract to help test Marduk’s new products and he’s surprised that Rufus is here too. Crow retorts that he’s a freelancer more than an employee, kinda like Arkride in a sense. Altina mentions that Rufus has been traveling all over the continent, and Rufus says something along the lines of “well, can’t exactly just walk back to Erebonia so I might as well travel everywhere else like the Free Cities and the other Central Eastern countries.” Lapis interrupts him by saying that’s exactly how she got a new body and “powered up” and says that she can experience being drunk now with it! Rean has the expression of a haha, but he asks isn’t she a little young to be drinking? And Rufus agrees saying that she’s too young and she’ll probably be allowed to drink whenever Nadia gets old enough to drink too. Lapis is kind of like, “grr I guess it’s fine if it’s together with Nadia.”

Feri impresses everyone with her natural insight and suspects there’s more to this exercise, and Kasim praises her to keep that instinct in mind, not just for her, but as the Kruga Clan’s Priestess too. Once the food is brought out, Van walks around to talk with the many groups.

Talking to Rean’s group, they briefly discuss Shizuna, and Van and Crow exchange their business cards. Crow asks Van why not just make her an official assistant already.

He says no freaking way, plus she’s ghosted all of them for nearly two months and recalls a moment where she stole his limited edition cake and brought a lesser replacement, laughing not knowing the difference. Lapis asks if it’s about the sweet cherry pie cake that’s available only in the Summer. Lapis mentions she’s eaten that too and it’s delicious. And Van says how can you even taste if you were stuck in that shard form back then (Kuro 2).

Van talks to Kasim and Feri, the two bonding. Mirabel explains that she traveled with Kasim back to his hometown and saw a smile that Kasim gave to Feri that she’s never even seen before. Van teases that isn’t it a bit unprofessional to be going together with a coworker back to their hometown on unrelated work duties.

Mirabel blushes and tries to deny it at first, but then gives up and says yeah, she and Kasim are dating (first hinted at in Kuro 2 in the finale, you can catch them watching a movie together!) and they’ve actually been dating for three years. Van teases her some more and she’s like grr why...

Van talks to Kevin, Bergard, and Thorndyke, basically confirming this whole exercise has an ulterior motive. Thorndyke doesn’t deny it, saying it’s for the advancement of AR technology. Kevin says the VR version of the tech is also super impressive too. Thorndyke mentions that it was a shame that ASO couldn’t make it, Van says it’s due to Agnes having her finals, and Quatre also being busy, but is surprised that Risette came and found out through her own way.

Van then heads to Altina and Risette talking with Rufus, mentioning it’s a strange combination. Risette corrects him saying, she’s been in touch with Altina for MK business purposes for a while, and also with Rufus because of the incident regarding Lapis. Altina says she knows Rufus and is actually grateful to him because he taught her “common sense” years ago. He says the same thing back to her, saying that she’s completely different from back then. She says she’s humbled.

Van asks if he’s cool with calling him Albarea instead of “Rufus A.” Rufus says he can do whatever, but people might get nosy. Rufus says he can’t roam the Capital so he’s glad that he was able to meet Van through this exercise. Van thanks for him what he was able to do in Kuro 2 with Marielle and Dingo.

Van eyes some very tasty cakes, but is saddened as he only asks for a few pieces while Lapis demands the entire cake.

Van relents because he has to be the better person since she’s never had pastries from Calvard. Feri checks in with Van, but finds him basically sulking saying he’s a failure. The server brings out another cake for him, trying to console him.

Van runs into Lapis again, eating an entirely different slice of cake, realizing she already ate the whole cake she took from before, and chastises her that a patisserie put their whole soul into it and she should savor every bite. Altina mentions to Van that actually, her original body was known to be a heavy eater too. Van worries about the financials of Swin and the others who had to deal with Lapis.

Van also runs a sweets blog.

Van then runs into Rean and Kasim, talking, both meeting for the first time and thanking each other for what happened in Cold Steel 4 with Operation Mille Mirage and that MK was a supporter in it. Bergard mentions that he saw Gaius after three years, thinking he would hate him, but instead he got a hug.

Kasim mentions how Feri’s life has changed and thinks perhaps Van could become an in-law and a member of the Kruga, Van gets mad saying don’t be ridiculous. Bergard asks Rean to have a good relationship with Van.

As the conversation with Thorndyke continues hoping that the group will continue to do more exercises, suddenly, the second phase of the Startaker Plan commences to everyone’s surprise.

With the AR tech, everyone is able to witness it up close, and see that the rocket launch is a moick-up of an Assault Frame. (It thinks it's the Hyaku Shiki!)

Harling then announces that the second phase will be completed and that the third launch will have a piloted Assault Frame.

Everyone now suspicious, thinks that the Startaker Project has a hidden purpose and MK inviting them is to that purpose.

Van leaves with his group, Rean leaves with theirs, suspicious, showing that they’ve brought their Panzer Soldats from Reverie. Rean looks at a letter by Yun Ka-Fai talking about how the Eight Leaves One Blade has to reach the Land of the Turning Tides and ponders on it.

Elsewhere, Lapis, concerned that humans have reached into a place not even Elysium has reached. She asks what Rufus will do, but he says, basically nothing as they need to work out any kinks with her body, and will meet up with Swin and Nadia. Kevin in the back seat, is hitch hiking, says that Lapis has a cute charm to her, and she says that his name “Kevin” isn’t that bad, it gets a 70, no 69 in terms of cuteness. Kevin says that’s a stingy number.

Kevin gets to the matter at hand calling him and Rufus, “bad adults” and he needs to hire them for a certain task.

Elsewhere, Campanella from the Society is observing things where he gets a very angry call from Novartis saying his help is different from what was promised. Campanella says he’s busy and Novartis tells him it’s too late to back out now and says to forget it and he won’t need his help at all, also cursing Harwood, saying he’s just going to get the new recruits to help him. Ulrika and Simeon both enter, with the former saying she was prepping for a livestream. Campanella asks to help with the Professor. Ulrika agrees and Campanella says it’s to help with the third phase of the Eternal Recurrence Plan, and the chapter ends with the opening playing.

3) What was Rook’s life before their faction?

Rio: Grew up in a coastal city in Rivain, home to one of the few stationary Dalish clans. Some of them still have the urge to travel, though, so those are the ones that become pirates. Rio spent a good chunk of their childhood and young adulthood on the sea. Candy: ...Life before the Crows? Are you fucking joking? Korbl: ...Life before the Watch? You're definitely joking. Irri: The Qun. Pressing down his fascination with magic and the arcane and ancient to avoid the eye of the Ben-Hassrath. Whit: Village life in the Free Marches. Happy, until the Kirkwall Circle fell and then their little sister's magic manifested not long after. Then, on the run for a few months, until Whit was the only one left. Kyr: A rat on the streets of Minrathous, following her older sister and their friends in the fight to survive and maybe just maybe stick it to the highborn fuckers who try to crush them under a boot heel.

4) Which faction did they join, and why? How long has it been?

Rio: Look, when your parents have already done everything and had every adventure, you jump at the chance for something they haven't done. Especially if it's Isabela taking a shine to you and inviting you to join her crew. It's been ten or so years now, and Rio's still gleefully chasing gold and glory as a Lord of Fortune. (Semi-exile aside.) Candy: Why? Because someone paid, and someone else gave her up. It's been her whole life, or near enough to not matter. Korbl: He was found as an infant in the Necropolis. He's wondered why, of course. Kept him up more than one night at a time, the why of it. But Konstanze was patient and loving and even helped him to search for answers if the not knowing became too much for him. Irri: The Veil Jumpers were the ones that found him, after he deserted his garrison and made for Arlathan. They had the same curiosity, the same hunger for knowledge, that he did. It's been...seven years? Eight? ...Time gets weird when you're this near the Fade. Whit: A Warden saved them from the templars that killed their sister -- by invoking the right of conscription. So far from home, with no one and nothing left to them, it seemed...the best option, right then. Whit's been part of the Wardens for almost half their life now, and they've been a true Warden themself for almost as long. Kyr: Shadow Dragons found her when they were hunting the same Venatori that were hunting her. She'd gotten just a little too bold at punching up. Luckily, that boldness was exactly what the Shadow Dragons needed seven years ago. It's also exactly what they didn't need when she got bold again and fucked up an entire slaver ring on her own. (Okay, Varric helped.)

5) What was life like for Rook before joining the Veilguard?

Rio was, of course, treasure-hunting. Always after the shiny things, that one, Isabela would say fondly. Bastard after her own heart. Candy chafed against the Crows, who expected her loyalty even after -- hell, because of -- the brutal and callous ways they trained her. When Treviso fell to the Antaam, she cherished a small flame of grim glee that the Crows were finally getting some of their shit thrown back at them. Korbl kept his refuge in the graves, the rituals, the routines. His life was usually peaceful -- broken only occasionally by an experiment of Stanze's going brilliantly wrong. Irri chased legends and artifacts in Arlathan, more joyful than he'd ever been in his life -- until the balance started tipping again. Whit was a Warden, part of a small garrison, and researched in Warden history for combating the new, frightening ways the Blight was being used in the south. Kyr ran in the shadows as she always had, but with more purpose now. Still had an incurably rebellious streak, though.

6) What was the reason that brought Rook to Minrathous?

They all had pretty much the same reasons: to save the world, to fuck over Venatori, because Varric asked. But Kyr had an extra reason: to find her sister. So the others have that reason too. (Kyr doesn't find her, not that time. Other things to do. But she goes a bit further afield in Minrathous than Dock Town. Later. When there's time and space for it. As soon as there's time and space for it.)

7) Why does Rook agree to join the Veilguard?

All six of them joined Varric, one by one. Rio was a loan -- an eager one -- from Isabela to her old friend, and conveniently timed to get them away from Rivain and its nobles. Candy took her only chance to break free of the Crows. Korbl was reluctant to leave the Necropolis, but Varric told stories of the outside world that tempted him -- especially the ones about dragonslaying. Irri was ever curious, ever searching for more, and in Arlathan, he was more sensitive than ever to how tenuous the balance of the world was. Whit may be just one Grey Warden, but just one Grey Warden can, after all, save the fucking world, if pressed. And Kyr, after her time in the Shadow Dragons, wanted better for Minrathous -- for the world -- than the fucking Venatori would give it.

Teeka strolls into the cantina like the world is her oyster. Because it is, obviously.

"Oh! There she is."

"Finally," sneers a second voice from the bar counter.

Teeka saunters up, assuming this is the guy Sheeli had told her about. Luminous yellow eyes peer out at her from beneath a deep hood. Wow. Girl had completely failed to mention the offworlder looking for death by tusken was cute.

[Hello beautiful, looking for me?] Teeka churrs, climbing up to sit on the next stool over and casually sniffing the air to figure out their gender. She scents... a lot of metal? Weird. Gorgeous stranger is an 'it' until she can get a better read.

It eyes Teeka after she finishes speaking, then looks pointedly at Sheeli.

The bartender gestures her direction, "Teeka says hello, and asks if you were looking for her?"

"Indeed I was," the stranger replies. It’s voice is like a nicely oiled motor. “I need to speak with one of the tusken tribes. I have heard there is a ‘wizard’ nearby that has a reputation with them. Where can I find him?"

Teeka chitters her reply, and their translator repeats it, "She's saying she'll take you if you pay her. Otherwise she thinks you'll get lost looking through the cave systems, or get turned away by, ah… Ben's magic?"

The offworlder hums thoughtfully, then sets a handful of credits on the bar, "This much now, and the same again when you have successfully seen me to this 'Ben'."

The credits disappear before it finishes speaking, and Teeka jumps off the bar stool with a flourish. [Deal!] she crows, [but you still have to pay me even if he doesn't want to talk to you. Ben is kinda a hermit.]

Sheeli chuckles, "She says it's a deal, but you have to pay her even if the guy doesn't want to see you."

Teeka points at her and nods vigorously, [Yep! Now follow me, pretty thing. I'll take you to the wizard of the wastes. Maybe you'll even live to tell the tale!]

[So,] she points at her chest, [I'm Teeka, obviously.] She points at him, [What do I call you?]

Yellow eyes contemplate her briefly before turning forward again. "I am Maul."

[Maul,] she says with a chirp, [Weird! Why did your people name you after a blunt tool for hitting things?]

Benedict & Crow Headcanons

1. Crow likes to sit in his bird form and secretly watch Benedict during crew practice, though he would rather die than admit it

2.Benedict learns Irish-Gaelic for Crow, only to learn that Crow doesn’t speak it and embarrasses himself for it but Crow finds it sweet

3. When Beatrix finds out that Crow is attracted to Benedict, she tells him that she didn’t think Ben was his type, while Crow’s like “have you seen him?”

4. Benedict and Crow have unintentionally matching tattoos (memento mori & memento vivere), except Crow’s is on his sternum and Benedict’s is in between his shoulder blades

5. Benedict calls Crow “my memento mori”, “little crow”, and “pretty crow”; while Crow calls Benedict “lamb”, “honey”, and “handsome”

6. Crow has a tongue piercing and Benedict is obsessed with it, like so obsessed it’s not even funny

7. Midnight (Benedict’s dog) doesn’t trust Crow but Benedict doesn’t know why, he just thinks she’s being weird

8. Breaker knew about Crow and Benedict almost immediately after they got together (though no one told him) and gave Crow some simple advice “don’t trust Solberg boys with your heart” because he knows a thing or two about Solberg boys and how they break hearts (physically and emotionally)

9. Their relationship after the three year time-jump can be described using Olivia’s Rodrigo’s bad idea right? because that’s literally all they are after the time jump

10. Kells traumatized Crow and that trauma will eventually lead Crow will betray Benedict to save himself, which effectively ends their relationship

11. Loyalty is both their greatest strengths and greatest weaknesses

12. Crow will never actually get the opportunity to tell Benedict that he loves him

13. Benedict can never fully trust Crow after finding out that he was with Beatrix the whole time they were together

Okay so that SaB S2 ending! The show runner—Eric Heisserer(sp?)—is a big crows fan but he said that they just loved Jessie so much. Alina and she have really become the “bedrock” of their mother show—Shadow and Bone and they had to keep her. I’m sure they had other reasons. One of them being that they know how lame her ending was in book 3 but they’ll never admit that. He also said that Mal needs to go find himself, now that he’s lost his purpose. I laughed because dude, just admit that he had no personality beyond nice guy who helps Alina. Not to mention bland love interest. Finally, he said that regarding Alina’s turn for the dark, the Darkling has been “quite honest with her” about the cost of power and that she’ll realize that everything he’s prophesied that will happen to her very well could come true.

Whatever the reasons behind the change, I’m happy for the change because it opens the door for so much—including Darklina! Just imagine, in S3, as she grapples with the corruption and darkness growing in her, she starts yearning for Aleksander, maybe reluctantly but she still starts looking for him. She could go back to that fountain, hold his ring, visit his old chambers etc etc, thinking about him, what he would say, the advice he’d give and just generally wishing he was there because he’s the only one who truly KNOWS, though she’d never admit her longing. Even if Nikolai is also infected, no one will truly truly know other than Aleksander. It’s the whole no one is like us thing. Think of the possibilities! The angst! The drama! Not to mention the possibility for a darklina endgame! Or do you think they’ll have her overcome that darkness (with or without Aleksander’s help) and ultimately still end up with Mal? I do think that the Darkling will be back because Ben Barnes is the most popular fan favorite on that show even more so than Alina or the crows and besides, it’s canon that he comes back in KoS. But still I think they’ll go for the latter unfortunately and have Mal and Alina reconnect in the end. Eugh. I mean why even keep Mal around? But who knows! I never imagined that they’d change the ending for book 3 so much and hint at a corruption arc for Alina. That’s pretty ballsy! So…maybe? Maybe they’re down for a complete endgame change. I dunno, what do you think?

(Ok weird spoiler alert but spoiler alert for vampire diaries, roswell/roswell new mexico and shadowhunters books and shows ships and endgames. It'll make sense when you read it I promise.)

I think anything is possible. They did drastically change the ending of the third book for the show so that does kind of leave it up in the air. I do think that the showrunners are aware of how unpopular the ending was which likely influenced their decision, of course they can't say that. But I also think they are aware that malina is not a very popular ship that doesn't generate much or any buzz really, not like darklina and other ships on the show do. Its also worth noting that there are other shows that changed the end games from their book counter parts. The Vampire diaries books for example, as written by the og author, ends with stefan and elena together but the show went for a delena endgame, which I believe was the more popular ship. In shadowhunters Luke ends up with Maryse Lightwood in the show but in the books its Jocelyn he ends up with. Then you've got the Roswell books and tv shows who take the cake for swapping ships about all over the place. In the books Max ends up with Liz, Michael with Maria, and Isabel has something going on with Micheal's brother trevor who doesn't appear in the show. There are other love interests in the books that don't show up in the og show as well, nikolas, adam and cameron for example. Then you have the og show where the ships end kind of similar with max and liz, Micheal and maria but Isabel is married to Jesse although similar to isabel and trevor in the books Isabel and jessie though they love each other go their separate ways, there is also a whole romance between Max and Tessa who is a character that was not from the books. Honestly when it comes to the newer Roswell New Mexico series I don't know what's going on with it anymore because I stopped watching it like halfway through season 2, but that adds new ships as well like Alex and Michael. The point is when it comes to shows and ships you never know what they are going to do. Sometimes they stick with the books, sometimes they put characters that are in the books together but in different pairings and sometimes they invent whole new characters to act as love interests.

I don't know whether they will go for a darklina end game but I don't think its out of the question especially if they are going with the corruption arc for Alina. It really could go either way they could have Alina and darkling go down a darker path together but then both redeem themselves at the end by sacrificing themselves for ravka, it could be just Aleks sacrificing himself, it could be that Alina is redeemed and ends up with mal after all, after he's gone off and discovered himself. It really is a anything could go situation so I would say don't give up hope for a darklina endgame. I won't until I see the last scene of the last season.

Irregardless I do think the change at the end of season 2 is going to open the door for alot of darklina content which I am really excited about. I did like what you said about Alina pining for Aleks and revisiting the fountain, the war room, his chambers and playing with his rings, honestly I would love to see that. If she also thinks she keeps seeing him about the place or even dreams about him, it would be even better.

Divine Rivals

3. 45/5 stars

I have a lot of mixed feelings towards this book. It's a good one, don't get me wrong, but it did not meet my expectations given the buzz. The book was advertised as rivals to lovers, but it isn't. The rivalry is only in the… first 20% of the story. Around that point, Iris, the heroine, actually offers to help Roman with his assignment—the one he stole from her—and I was like, why? What happened to your rivalry?

The animosity between them just fades too fast early on. I was so disappointed. To be fair, I'm biased because of the Cruel Prince series, which did such a phenomenal job with enemies to lovers. The romance in this book, on the other hand, goes faster than Usain Bolt. Near the end of the story, they already get married, and honestly the whole book is rather corny, though sweet.

I wanted a slow burn!!! I've become so used to that because of the Crows and Folk of the Air. I do want to say that if I hadn't read those two series, I may have liked this book more. And it is a charming book, even if Iris's prose was not hitting me at all. I think being told that her writing was supposed to be good made me more critical about it, and I found her prose purple and not at all impactful.

Also even at the end of the story I didn't have a good gauge of what Roman's personality was like. His actions and behaviour didn't really match up to that pompous act at the start, and I was a bit disappointed. He just… felt very indistinct as a character. It's the same for many other characters: Mariposa is extremely nice and nothing really else. Attie is also nice and other than having some ambition and dreams about being a musician, that's about it.

Okay, this sounds like I'm just hating on this book, which isn't true, because if that were true, I'd be giving it one star instead of three. Ultimately, there's nothing very offensive about this book, and its biggest crime to me was just being underwhelming. There were parts that I really adored: Iris's mother passing away was a good pivotal point for Iris (and Roman), and also her first kiss with Roman was really well done! I was slightly breathless at that scene.

Overall, sweet but nothing really memorable.

The Devil You Know

I decided I needed some contemporary to numb my brain. It is so hard to rate this because the first half was easily 4/5 stars, and the second… 1/5 stars. I suppose I can take the numbers and average them out, but it just… doesn't feel so clinical like that.

The first half was magical; Ben and Gemma's banter was everything. I was actually laughing out loud, which I rarely do with fictional banter. These two leads actually felt like people I'd be friends with. Granted, their humour was a bit… dubious, but that's why I loved it. There's this ongoing joke where she claims he likes to date women far younger than him (it isn't really true) and she asked him very sarcastically about him going to the Winter Formal with his 'girlfriend'. And he was like, "Well, we'll have to wait until she gets to high school" or something like that, and I was like, OMG. This was so wrong but I cackled.

The weird thing was that this was not a slow-burn, not even at the first half, but I still enjoyed the shit out of it. I guess they just had a lot more chemistry than Roman and Iris, and the sexual tension was far more palpable. In the absence of sexual tension, which I'm perfectly fine with, there has be to chemistry, and Ben and Gemma were heaping that in spades.

But the second half went downhill. Rife with cringe-worthy miscommunication—Ben, you really can't blame Gemma's anger when you act shady as fuck, and Gemma, you act like an immature 12-year-old—and constant time-skips that took away the magic of their relationship for me, my interest dwindled and I got so annoyed I just skimmed until the end. I also felt Ben never really did anything grand to give me any closure about the horrific things Kyle did—wasn't that his role as Kyle's successor, and Gemma's shot at a happy ending?—and overall, I ended the story with a bad taste in my mouth.

Like Divine Rivals, this was a book that had a lot of potential, most of which was barely met.

Alina looks fantastic but I have to wonder where'd she find a curling iron in the middle of the sea. Unless the ship had a convenient tailor on board.

I'm still impressed with the visual worldbuilding and production design so far.

Yeah, the Crows' brooding cello 'theme' still makes me immediately think of 'Vodka Inferno' by Diablo Swing Orchestra, if the overall vibe of the show didn't already.

Like, I get that the character is probably playing a part to a degree, but... yeah. Let's see how it unfolds.

Well done with the ship, though, it's actually properly cramped instead of absurdly spacious like in many films/shows.

I still really love the lighting of this show. Especially in comparison to so many other things recently.

I like that we're seeing Kirigan in human light as well, not just as the mustache-twirling villain cliché. The scenes with Genya are fascinating and disturbing. Great job Ben and Daisy.

Honestly I'm so glad they've aged these characters up. I would never believe they're teenagers. I mean, Wylan, maybe.

she thinks he's an annoying, dumb, nosy jerk that she would do almost anything for. he protected and helped her during the worst time in her life and saw her in ways she never wants anyone to see her again, and that has left an imprint she's unable to explain. she appreciates that he accommodates her without making it seem like he's pitying her or treating her like glass, and she's grown to love him as a brother. but she'll probably never say it out loud again because it embarrasses her. instead she'll do little things here and there to show she cares. cleaning the apartment, making him food and leaving it in the microwave, leaving cool trinkets on his bed like a weird little crow. and when she moves out it's sad or whatever but it doesn't really matter because she still stays at his place at least once a week, and she gives him a key so he can do the same. bonus: he doesn't even need to get over his cat thing because henry has no interest in him.

mae & ben.

that's her whole entire heart fr and her best friend. she's more comfortable with him than anyone except her mom, and is more confident around him than even her mom because he's an unconditional hype man. they absolutely have a weird relationship, as ben has pointed out before, but mae almost never thinks about that. it's just normal to her at this point ( which is funny when him being extremely anti-touch was a big part of their relationship at first ) to be so close all the time, always touching, no boundaries. and of all the, like, five activities they do, she actually loves the hanging out in bed the most. the comfortable quiet without a real need for talking broken up by the moments when they want to talk anyway, or just silently show each other things on their phones. she'll almost always send him videos and then immediately show him anyway, and she thinks putting her cold feet on his bare skin is just hilarious, and sometimes she tries to crawl under him like he's a blanket, and she will start snoring in his ear when he's just trying to mind his business and watch youtube. she just thinks he's neat ♡♡

corin & ben.

how she feels is really hard to summarize apparently because i've rewritten this 2000 times. it's established that corin wants more than what they are currently and she wants to know him more intimately, wants to be closer, and it's also established that she doesn't think he's worth the risk of being vulnerable. so her feelings toward him are super complicated and often contradictory, and that's just kind of the nature of corin. she likes him a lot but she hates his emotional constipation, she thinks he's funny but not when he's trying to be, she wants to be with him seriously but at the same time thinks that's a horrible idea. and that makes it sound entirely negative, but she really does consider him a good friend. he's her first text / call when she wants someone to hang out with, the first person she asks to go to parties with her, and the only guy she'll take on her lil vacations.

winnie & ben.

entirely opposite of corin, winnie's feelings are very simple. she likes ben a lot even though he's confusing and annoying. she just doesn't show it because she doesn't know how and he doesn't make it seem necessary for her to even try. and contrary to what ben thinks, there's nothing better than him waiting for her when she leaves. he's the first person she's ever chosen to be with and around, and she would choose to continue being around him if he were interested in that. but being a werewolf doesn't really seem like his thing since he's severely Just Some Guy. and if she waits around too long, his life will be in danger too. what she likes about him in particular is hard to define and she'd have to think for an offensively long time if he asked, but she really likes that he's submissive and unafraid to be so, he respects her, and he doesn't shun her for being different than him. and he's attractive.

ignoring the first question. I tend to refer to this au as my “gods au” because while the series itself takes place in a video game, gman, tommy, and benrey are all eldritch gods in the real world. They didn’t create anything, just kind of hang around and mess with people. They do pick favorites though, gman likes crows, tommy likes dogs and mean people, and benrey kind of just, fucks around. Benrey is the youngest and likes to shapeshift in the woods, woods that happen to be in gordon’s backyard. Gordon lives in a small town and has never felt like he fits in. going to church in a skirt/dress makes him uncomfortable and he’s gotten into a few fights with his parents about it. none of the other kids really seem to understand what he’s talking about and they think all of his interests are strange. So he goes to the woods behind his house A Lot. one day he finds a kid that looks… Weird to say the least. Short, a little stocky, long stark black hair that casts a shadow on his face you can’t see past, and the most striking blue eyes you’ve ever seen. Gordon is reasonably freaked out by this, frankly kind of scary, kid in his backyard, but they end up being friends. They work together on picking out a name for benrey since everytime gordon asked he would just shrug. They settle on ben. They hang out everyday, and one day, ben decides that gordon can’t come hang out until he sees his passport. Something that gordon finds very funny and he immediately pulls out a notebook from his backpack and tears out a piece of paper. He writes passport in big letters and makes one for ben too. Now everytime gordon enters the forest he has to have his passport out and ready to go. The thing is, gman being the most powerful of the three, has set a rule that they aren’t allowed to directly interact with humans. Upon finding out what benrey has been doing, he immediately wipes gordon’s memory of ben and everything associated with him. He makes it so gordon can’t even see ben until later. After about 2 years of hanging out with gordon everyday, this fucks benrey up a little bit. He follows gordon his whole life. watches him move out of his parents after coming out as a man, to living with his grandparents, to going to MIT, getting stuck in an office job, adopting joshua. Gordon gets really into the half life video game series, gets into modding the games as a hobby, like Really gets into it. Maybe develops a fictional crush on barney calhoun (thus ben becoming benrey, for completely not gay reasons). Now tommy loves his best friend benrey and is a little concerned with his obsession with this one random human, so he also ends up keeping an eye on gordon. Joshua is at his great grandparents house for the week, so gordon boots up his newest mod, making some select ai more reactive, aware, and the vr port. At this point tommy is also pretty interested in what gordon gets up to, so he goes to his dad. Gman, while not caring the slightest about benrey, would do anything for his son, so when tommy asks if he can check out this fun project and indirectly directly interact with this human, he says yes. In fact, as if to spite benrey, they’re All going to get in on this. By entering this game, they infect the ai, making them Very self aware, and effectively trap gordon inside. The events of the series ensue. Hey, remember passports? It was benrey desperately trying to get gordon to remember some part of him, while knowing that it’s impossible. Even afterwards, it would be impossible for gordon to remember because they were erased, there’s no way to bring them back. If gman tried, it would be skewed from his own perspective and have a very sour taste. Tommy gets very attached to all of the ai in the game and decides to make them real people, he even gets gman to make black mesa a real place. Benrey, having recently died a somehow painful death, gets dragged out as well, and is left disoriented by a recently blown up computer. Gordon, reasonably, freaks the fuck out about benrey being real and having been in a coma for about a week.

Ok, new ocs! Not only that though, these ocs will be placed into a separate universe/cannon than Little Town (That's not to say you can't ask for crossovers if you're one of the few who enjoy my little guys, just know they don't naturally share the same space)

These ocs are in a Big City but the things that tie them all together are the fact that they're all hybrids and they all work at the same hybrid cafe

Now, for any of you who don't know (I don't blame you) my hybrid aus have a few rules. These Hybrids have only been around a few generations, the first hybrids were made by humans in a lab, all hybrids lean towards the "neko" body type (They're mostly human but with the ears, tails, scales, wings, and or behavioral tendencies found in their animal counterparts), and all hybrids can be adopted or bought (Their society doesn't allow them independence)

Since the hybrids were made by humans, some lean more towards stereotypes than others. All cow hybrids produce milk, for example. Gender, hormones, or whether or not they've had a kid does not matter, it's just a puberty thing for them

Now, a hybrid cafe is a mixture of both cat cafes and maid cafes. The hybrids themselves serve you and can even preform if you pay for it, but you can adopt any hybrid that catches your eye while you're there

I will now list all the characters the work in this cafe briefly, I will give each of them their own intros later for more detail

Ben the Polar Bear: He's big and tough and mean looking. He's actually a softy but the heat of being in the wrong climate makes his sensory issues kick in, so he's constantly overstimulated on the job

Clemintine the Calico Cat: They're constantly high on catnip and acts very mellow and hippy dippy. When they're sober they're a panic ridden mess who locks themselves in their room

Delilah the Border Collie: Very laid back and chill. Has some milf/ cow girl vibes to her. If you become friends she will feed you every time she sees you. No is not an option

Benny the Ghost Bat: A gremlin mixed with a crypted? He likes hanging out on the ceiling and scaring people and can be caught eating pre-shredded cheese from the bag at 3 AM. She has insanely good hearing to the point of catching a lot of secrets so she chooses to almost never speak so she can't let anything slip

Greg the Leopard Gecko: Himbo with a lot of emotional intelligence. It can take one look at you and become your therapist, and it will if it's already your friend

Gabriel the Dutch Landrace Goat: The oldest of all the hybrids. He makes himself unlikeable to the patrons to make sure he can stay and take care of the others or any newbies that come in. Gilf

Fiona the Arctic Fox: Bimbo girl boss? Very "they asked for no pickles" once she likes you. Very friendly, but will do a 180 if they catch you fucking with their friends. Loves iced black coffee

Cassandra the Carrion Crow: Goth gf/ vampire vibes. Actually a fucking dork. Knows a lot about "sky stuff" weather, lift, the stars. She dreams about being able to fly some day (The city has rules against it but some places in the country let bird or bug hybrids fly openly)

River the Holland Lop Rabbit: Looks and acts very cutesy but will not hesitate to put you in the hospital. A bit "yandere" towards his coworkers. Has consensually collected a small vial of each of their blood and wears them on a necklace, making sure to change who he's wearing every day

Alexzander the White Albino Axolotl: He's just, so excited to be here you guys! Constantly acts like they're on a sugar high. Wants to see the world!!! When ever he does eventually crash he usually cries about never achieving his dream

Blake the Bumble Bee: Scatterbrained workaholic. They're always either doing something or going somewhere. They say it's because sitting still makes them feel weird but they actually feel the need to prove themself constantly. Terrified of being alone "What is a bee without their hive?"

Olive the Barn Owl: Smart ass. The "glasses character" if you will. Likes to turn her head 180 to freak people out. She drinks black coffee because she thinks it makes her look cool but fucking hates it. In love with the cafe's "pink Sparkle drink" but will throw herself off a cliff before admitting it. Cares a lot about the other hybrids, but again, cliff
