wait.. i’m literally on here or weibo almost 24/7 ( as you can tell lol ) but I feel like i missed something. i’m seeing clowning related to xz’s photos and how it looks like he is a groom and it’s a wedding photoshoot. the place is also famous for wedding shoots ( allegedly, idk. i’m not from there ) so turtles are imagining again. lol. freakin coincidence that wyb’s GRA photoshoot was done at a wedding shop. plus the “wedding outfits” for weibo night. which is all clowning and galaxy braining.🌌
now, we’re joking around, like where’s yibo? he should be taking photos with his partner.
then i see comments that there is this one song WYB recently listened to. meaning, as recent as when XZ flew to singapore which is called 超人不会飞 (superman can’t fly) by Jay Chou. i know WYB and everyone else is a big fan of Jay Chou but the clowning comes from the timing of when he listened to it. let me get to that first.
here is the song if you wanna listen to it. 🎶
youtube
turtles are interpreting it as WYB longing to “fly” to where XZ is and be with him but he can’t because of all his work commitments. he wants to take a breather. thinking about what his life is and the constraints, and at times like this, when they spent days in Beijing, but now they have to be apart, it affects him even more.
however when i read the lyrics, it could also be because he can relate to what jay chou is singing about. here’s the english translation i found here. i have bolded the ones i felt like WYB relates too. literally no need for explanation. just read it. It fits with his status in life so much that it’s almost scary.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with how cpfs are relating this to cpn cause that’s just how it is. But sometimes, there are other reasons why they do what they do.
SO MY CONFUSION COMES FROM HOW THE HELL DO PEOPLE KNOW WHAT HE RECENTLY LISTENED TO. I can’t seem to dig up how or maybe it’s something we don’t talk about. I have never experienced this kind of tidbit related to them before so I wanna know the source. Or is this like the gaming cpn where certain people know and they will not divulge the boy’s account for privacy? if anyone knows, feel free to comment. If i find out in the future, I will share.

Keine Ahnung, seit wann, vielleicht 2010

The Immortal Iron Fist - issues #7, #15, Annual #1, The Immortal Iron Fist: Orson Randall and the Green Mist of Death, #16 (2007-2008)
At first glance, you might think these issues are superfluous, but they are essential in grasping the fullness of the mythology that Brubaker and Fraction created surrounding the Iron Fist.
Issue #7 tells the story of Wu Ao-Shi, Iron Fist during the 16th century. Drawn by Travel Foreman, Khari Evans, and Leandro Fernandez, it tells the story of how a young woman, born in poverty, became the avenger of the oppressed known as The Pirate Queen of Pinghai Bay. Issue #15 is the story of Bei Bang-Wen, Iron Fist during the mid-1800s, who, with his “perfect strategy mind,” fought British colonizers during the Opium Wars and was taken prisoner and sent to India.
With a present day framing device drawn by Howard Chaykin, Annual #1 sees Danny Rand traveling to find the surviving friends of Orson Randall, the previous Iron Fist, to discover more about him. Who was he? Why did he run away from his destiny? What was his relationship to Danny’s father? The issue answers some of those questions and presents some adventures of Orson Randall and the “Confederates of the Curious” from the pulp era and after.
Orson Randall and the Green Mist of Death is crucial. Drawn by a host of artists, including Mike Allred, Stefano Gaudiano, and Mitch Breitweiser, the issue tells of Orson’s encounters being hunted by the Immortal Weapon known as the Prince of Orphans. Why was he hunting him down? How does their story relate to Danny? And most shocking of all, who is he?
And then, finally, issue #16. Aja returns for the finale and together with Fraction presents a poignant, beautifully accomplished issue that ties some loose ends and connects Danny back to his home of New York and, more importantly, to his partner, friend, and lover—Luke, Colleen, and Misty. It reveals how Danny wants to spend his fortune, what happens to his company, and leads ultimately to a shocking revelation about every Iron Fist who has ever lived.
It’s a lovely end to one of the very best comic runs of the early aughts.

Bangkok Post Read the full article

holy shit hi!!!!
1- how were you first introduced?
I WAS 12 AND I WENT TO A LIBRARY AND SAW A REALLY NICE COMIC CALLED POWER MAN AND IRON FIS AND I WAS LIKE OOOOOOOOO.
power man and iron fist #6 to #9 was the first iron fist content i ever came across. the artstyle was catered to me and even though now i feel like that run didnt have the best moments of danny... i still give it full credit for the reason why this obsession started.
after that i read all the iron fist comics on pirating sites, watched the ultimate spiderman series and the netflix series. but yeah i always come back to pmif #6 to be reminded of when i was younger and didnt know what i was getting into.
2- whats your favourite comic and/or adaptation?
DEFINITELY DAVID AJA, MATT FRACTION AND ED BRUBAKER's IMMORTAL IRON FIST.
like are you kidding???? the seven (or eight) heavenly cities, the seven champions, the history of kun lun, the previous iron fists, orson randall and wendell rand and like so many more??????? yo????????
immortal iron fist is my favourite run by far. my other favourites are ultimate spiderman's danny rand, the power man and iron fist runs (both old and new), the 2017 run and the phantom limb (?) run.
3- who is/are your favourite character(s)?
i have like a bunch, but my main ones from the iron fist comics are pei, the thunderer, wu ao shi, bei bang wen, orson randall and tigers beautiful daughter.
previous iron fists are literally on a league of their own, like obv danny is my favourite but they all tell their own stories and have their own arcs and ughhh i could go on forever.
4- what do you enjoy most about iron fist? what made you a fan?
ever since i picked up that first power man and iron fist comic, i was attracted to his costume (the loud yellow), his sadness that he covered up with humour, this loneliness he brought everywhere like 😭😭.
danny rand as a character is so intriguing to me. especially him being white yet growing up in fantasy china. im mixed race, half chinese, and something about being both yet never being enough of one is soooo real.
the potential this show has to be like a spiderverse animated movie is CRAZY TO ME.
5- anything else youd like to share!
the first merch i ever bought was an iron fist sticker (pretty sure was drawn by scottie young).
also WHO THE FUCK DECIDED TO BREAKUP DANNY AND MISTY LIKE WHYYYY. THEIR CHILD LUCY NAMED AFTER LUKE IS GAY MARRIED WITH DANIELLE???? YOO
i love luke and danny's friendship so much that ive had a dream where luke says "i love you so much, man" to danny on stage at like some convention 😭.
that is all, and sadly i dont interact with many other iron fist enthusiasts so i have no one to tag 😔. THANKS FOR TAGGING ME. <3<3
Iron Fist's 50th Anniversary: A Fan Survey
Hello!
I've been running this blog for six (whoa...) years now and have been blogging about Iron Fist in general for longer than that. Throughout this time, I have been fortunate to get to know some wonderful fellow fans of the character. On the occasion of this amazing IF milestone, I thought it would be a fun opportunity to reach out directly to the fandom on Tumblr and get to know everyone a little bit better. With this in mind, I've put together a short series of questions, which anyone and everyone is welcome to answer in a reblog/reply to this post. You can answer all of the questions or just one, in as much detail as you'd like. No pressure, no stress, and no deadline; I'd like to see how long and far this circulates.
I would love to know:
How were you first introduced to Iron Fist?
What is your favorite Iron Fist comic and/or adaptation?
Who is/are your favorite character(s)?
What do you enjoy most about Iron Fist? What made you a fan?
Anything else you'd like to share!
Please tag anyone you think might enjoy answering this. Alternately, I'd appreciate if you would consider reblogging this, so that it can get to as many people as possible.
Thank you, and enjoy!

Iron Fist Countdown: 7 Days
Danny’s Superpowers
Danny is the most powerful member of the Netflix Defenders team. Or at least, he has the greatest power potential. In addition to his mad kung fu skills, the uses for the chi of Shou-Lao could (and, in fact, do) fill an entire book, and the vast power it grants its wielders is ever-evolving. Even Danny hasn’t yet learned everything he’s capable of. Here are some of the highlights of what various Iron Fists have achieved over the years, and of what we might possibly see in the show.
To start: This post is going to give the impression that Danny is really, really overpowered, so we’re going to stick in a little caveat: the Immortal Iron Fist Power Upgrade Factor (IIFPUF). Speaking generally, 616 Danny has had two major power levels (so far, anyway-- his upcoming solo series is going to explore another, but that is a very special situation and probably not relevant here). Before Immortal Iron Fist (BIIF) Danny was still very powerful, but his power had frequency limits. Using the chi of Shou-Lao left him drained, thus preventing him from summoning it more than once-or-twice per day and prompting him to only use it in dire situations.
Danny: “Can... hardly... move-- By the silver dragon, what have I done? Heartbeat’s racing almost too fast to count... feel flushed, sweating... system overloaded... Power has a definite limit-- remember that! More I use, more it drains me...”
[Iron Fist vol. 1 #6 by Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and Karen Mantlo]
In Immortal Iron Fist he acquires the Book of the Iron Fist, which was stolen by his predecessor in an ill-conceived attempt at ending the Iron Fist legacy. This book contains techniques for, among other things, not getting worn out by using the chi of Shou-Lao. Having gained this knowledge, post-Immortal Iron Fist (PIIF) Danny now uses his powers all the time without suffering any ill effects.
In the Netflix show, we know that Danny will be operating at a BIIF level-- which makes sense, from a storytelling perspective as much as a worldbuilding one. The less frequently he uses his powers on-screen, the more dramatic they will remain. However, the actual range of abilities he might possess in the show remains to be seen. Here are some of the exciting options...
The Iron Fist
[Power Man and Iron Fist vol. 1 #67 by Mary Jo Duffy, Kerry Gammill, and Ben Sean]
Iron Fists are, of course, named after their big signature move. Summoning the Iron Fist involves focusing the chi of Shou-Lao into a concentrated spot (usually a hand), thus imbuing it with temporary super strength and invulnerability. A few writers have suggested that there’s an actual molecular shift involved, which causes the limb in question to literally become “like unto iron”, but generally the actual iron aspect of this technique is treated as a metaphor. Wielding the dragon chi in this way allows the Iron Fist to strike with immense force without suffering any damage themselves.
[New Avengers vol. 1 #59 by Brian Michael Bendis, Stuart Immonen, and Dave McCaig]
With this move Danny has-- to name just a few feats-- obliterated giant robots, sunk ships, blown up trains, taken down a helicarrier (see above), and he once sucker punched 300-pound Luke Cage through a wall, across a street, and into a building that then collapsed on top of him. (Don’t worry, he was fine.)
Obviously, we know Danny’s gonna be chi punching things to awesome effect in the show as well.
(Aw yessssss...)
Accelerated Healing
[Immortal Iron Fist #9 by Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction, and David Aja]
The chi of Shou-Lao can also be used as a healing force, enabling Iron Fists to perform what is essentially epic-level reiki on themselves and others. Take it away, Danny...
Danny: “Your doctors did most of the hard work weeks ago... All I’m doing... is focusing your chi a bit.. to speed up your natural healing process.”
[Daredevil vol. 2 #111 by Ed Brubaker, Clay Mann, and Matt Hollingsworth]
This is a versatile skill that works on more than just cuts and bruises and broken bones. The chi can be used to burn out harmful infections and substances within the body. It is, for example, difficult to poison an Iron Fist. Danny also once used the dragon chi to cure cancer, and has managed to break himself out of mind control with it on occasion. It can be used to grant prolonged life. And it works quite well for combating demons who have possessed your friends.
[Shadowland #5 by Andy Diggle, Billy Tan, and Victor Olazaba]
This is one power that was drastically impacted by the IIFPUF (see above). When Danny first learned to use the chi in this way, it was a difficult procedure that actually caused him immense physical pain. PIIF, however, he is able to heal rapidly, almost without thinking about it.
Resurrection
[Iron Fist: The Living Weapon #12 by Kaare Andrews]
Chi is life energy, and so it makes sense that there are high-level Iron Fist techniques that can be used to bring dead things back to life. This isn’t a skill that Danny has mastered in the comics (it requires a level of spiritual awareness that he hasn’t achieved yet), but given the link to the Hand mythos in the MCU, and their tendency of bringing people back from the dead, we wonder if it might come up in the show...
Lightning From God (chi projection)
[Immortal Iron Fist #7 by Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction, and Khari Evans]
This is a move trademarked by former Iron Fist and all-around badass Wu Ao-Shi, the Pirate Queen of Pinghai Bay. She developed a technique that allowed her to project her chi out of her body and into her arrows, thus making them extra lethal on impact. Orson Randall, Danny’s direct Iron Fist predecessor, was able to do the same thing with bullets, and it’s a skill that Danny has mastered as well.
[Thunderbolts (2006) #137 by Andy Diggle, Carlos Rodriguez, et al.]
Hypnosis
[Immortal Iron Fist #2 by Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction, and David Aja]
This is one of those Iron Fist powers that rarely comes up, but there is a technique that allows the chi of Shou-Lao to be used to plant mental suggestions, and to control people against their will. It’s not entirely clear how (this is one of those That’s Not Really How Chi Works things) but it’s very cool, so we’ll buy it.
[Mighty Avengers (2013) #6 by Al Ewing, Valerio Schiti, and Frank D’Armata]
It’s probably related to this next ability....
Illusions
[Immortal Iron Fist #24 by Duane Swierczynski, Jose Angel Cano Lopez, and Edward Bola]
One neat aspect of the chi of Shou-Lao is that, because it is such a versatile power source, it can be shaped to suit the talents and tendencies of the individuals who acquire it. Li Park, an artistic Iron Fist with a powerful imagination, used the chi in a way that enabled him to draw others into his fantasies. All evidence suggests that this is the Hypnotic Fist technique (above), enhanced to its most potent level.
Energy Absorption/Manipulation
[Iron Fist vol. 1 #7 by Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and Bonnie W.]
Chi is energy, as we said, and the physical fact of having absorbed a giant dose of highly-volatile dragon chi seems to enable Iron Fists to do the same with other such energy sources. Danny has shown immense tolerance for radiation bombardment and magic, seemingly by absorbing the energy without being harmed by it. Along these same lines, he has found ways of connecting to and manipulating magnetic fields, and he once plugged himself into the chi of every single person in K’un-Lun for a final ditch-effort power boost. He didn’t enjoy it, but he did survive the experience, which is saying something...
[Iron Fist: The Living Weapon #9 by Kaare Andrews]
Perfect Strategy Mind (mental enhancement)
[Immortal Iron Fist #15 by Matt Fraction, Khari Evans, and Paul Mounts]
Developed by master tactician and former Iron Fist Bei Bang-Wen, this technique seems to enhance mental performance and focus. We’ve never seen Danny use this-- but he’s made enough poor judgment calls in his life that he probably should. (Just kidding, Danny. Love ya.)
Vulcan Mind-Melding
[Iron Fist vol. 1 #6 by Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and Karen Mantlo]
We doubt this one will be used in the show, but anything is possible! At a certain point, Colleen is kidnapped and mind controlled into trying to kill Danny. After failing to snap her out of the mind control by conventional means, and desperate to avoid either being killed or having to kill her, Danny takes a wild shot and attempts to merge his chi with hers. This allows him to break through the brainwashing, but it’s an extremely unpleasant, violating experience for both of them, and he never does it again. This literal meeting of minds results in a transfer of memories, emotions, and knowledge between the two. Afterward, Colleen is able to pull off some advanced K’un-Lun kung fu techniques that she didn’t know before.
[Iron Fist vol. 1 #14 by Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and Janice Cohen]
Levitating (Ack!)
[Iron Fist: The Living Weapon #12 by Kaare Andrews]
It’s not clear how, or why, or wherefore, but Iron Fists can levitate! (Kaare Andrews, if you’re reading this, please explain.)
Increased Energy
[Immortal Iron Fist #16 by Matt Fraction, David Aja, and Matt Hollingsworth]
Danny is able to successfully go without sleep for long periods of time (or, at the very least, to replace sleep with periodic meditation). Of course, most superheroes don’t get much sleep, but Danny has an advantage in that dragon chi is a slightly more powerful stimulant than coffee.
And finally, uh, whatever this is...
[Immortal Iron Fist #17 by Duane Swierczynski, Travel Foreman, and Matt Milla]
We’re not sure what this move does, since Danny never actually completes it... but holy moley, it should be on the show.
One more week!

Administrative Geography of Yizhou, Lianzhou, and Ningzhou in ~280 AD (Book of Jin)
“Commandary” doesn’t even sound like a word anymore...
益州
YIZHOU
In distant antiquity, the area that would later be known as Yizhou was included within the territory of Lianzhou, as defined by both the description of the realm in the Tribute of Yu and in the territories that the ancient Emperor Shun assigned to his Twelve Governors. During the Zhou dynasty, since Lianzhou was combined with Yongzhou, the future Yizhou region was also included in Yongzhou.
Regarding the name Yizhou, the text 春秋元命包 states, "The Can and Fa stars wander through Yizhou, so named for its narrowness." That is to say, it was named because of the land's rough and narrow terrain. Or it is also said that it is called Yi (益 "more") because of its very expansive land and soil.
When King Huiwen of Qin conquered the state of Shu (in 316 BC), he organized the entire former state into Shu commandary, with Zhang Ruo as its Administrator. When the First Emperor of Qin organized the whole realm into thirty-six commandaries (in 221 BC), Shu commandary's name was left unchanged.
At the beginning of the Han dynasty (~206 BC), the region was the three commandaries of Hanzhong, Ba, and Shu. In the sixth year of Emperor Gaozu of Han's (Liu Bang's) reign (201 BC), he split off part of Shu commandary to form Guanghan commandary, thus there were four commandaries in total. After Emperor Wu expanded into the southwest at the expense of the local tribes (in 135 BC), he organized the new territory into the four additional commandaries of Jianwei, Zangke, Yuegui, and Yizhou, making eight in total. He also organized these eight commandaries into the single province of Yizhou; this must have been the first appearance of Yizhou.
During Later Han, Emperor Ming organized newly submissive territory into Yongchang commandary (in 58 AD), Emperor An established Commandants of Vassal States attached to the commandaries of Shu, Guanghan, and Jianwei, and Emperor Ling organized the three counties of Wenjiang, Canling, and Guangrou into a new Wenshan commandary. In Emperor Xian's first year of Chuping [should be Xingping, 194], Liu Zhang split off part of Ba commandary and formed Yongning commandary. In his sixth year of Jian'an (201), Yongning commandary was renamed to Ba commandary while the original commandary was renamed to Baxi; Fuling commandary was also established. In the twenty-first year of Jian'an (216), Liu Bei split off part of Ba commandary to form Guling commandary.
In Shu-Han's first year of Zhangwu (221), Guling commandary was renamed to Badong commandary, while Baxi's name was restored to Ba commandary. They also split off part of Guanghan commandary to form Zitong commandary, split off part of Jianwei commandary to form Jiangyang commandary, reorganized the Vassal State attached to Shu commandary as Hanjia commandary, and reorganized the Vassal State attached to Jianwei commandary as Zhuti commandary. In Liu Shan's second year of Jianxing (224), he renamed Yizhou commandary to Jianning commandary, reorganized the Vassal State attached to Guanghan commandary as Yinping commandary, split off part of Jianning and Yongchang commandaries to form Yunnan commandary, split off parts of Jianning and Zangke commandaries to form Xinggu commandary, and split off part of Guanghan commandary to form Eastern Guanghan commandary. During Cao-Wei's Jingyuan reign era (263-264), they conquered Shu-Han, and they abolished Eastern Guanghan commandary.
In Emperor Wu of Jin's second year of Taishi (266), he split off [the northern] part of Yizhou to form the new province of Lianzhou, with Hanzhong commandary as part of it. In the seventh year of Taishi (271), he also split off [the southern] part of Yizhou to form the new province of Ningzhou.
What follows is the geography of Yizhou as it existed around the first year of Taikang (280). It administered eight commandaries and forty-four counties, and had a population of 149,300 households.

After the reign of Emperor Hui of Jin, Li Te declared himself King in Shu and called his state Han (in 303), and Yizhou and its counties and commandaries were lost to Jin. During his reign, Li Xiong split off parts of Hanjia and Shu commandaries to form the new commandaries of Chenli and Hanyuan. And even though Jin no longer actually controlled Yizhou, they still appointed officials for Yizhou and its counties and commandaries in absentia from their new base in the Southland. After Huan Wen conquered Shu (in 347) and Jin recovered the province, Chenli and Hanyuan commandaries were abolished, while four new commandaries were established: Southern Yinping, Jinyuan, Ningshu, and Shining. In the second year of Xian'an (373), Yizhou was once again lost to Jin, this time coming under the control of the Fu clan of Former Qin. But in the eighth year of Taiyuan (383), Jin recovered the province again. In the second year of Long'an (398), Jin also established three new commandaries: Jinxi, Suining, and Jinning.
梁州
LIANZHOU
[This should be spelled Liangzhou, but I am distinguishing it from the northwestern province 涼州 Liangzhou.]
In distant antiquity, the Tribute of Yu in the Book of Documents describes Lianzhou as being the region "south of Mount Hua and along the Black River". And when the ancient Emperor Shun appointed his Twelve Governors, one of them was for Lianzhou.
Regarding the name Lianzhou, it was said that the minerals of the west had a strong and 梁 "firm" spirit, thus the name.
According to the Rites of Zhou, the Lianzhou region was governed by the officials of Yongzhou.
The Han dynasty never organized this region into its own province of Lianzhou; it remained part of Yizhou privince. In Emperor Xian's sixth year of Chuping [should be the first year, 190], Linjiang county was placed under Yongning commandary. In the sixth year of Jian'an (201), Liu Zhang renamed Yongning commandary to Badong commandary and split off parts of Ba and Dianjiang commandaries to form Baxi commandary. After Liu Bei occupied the Shu region (in 215), he split off the counties of Jiameng, Fucheng, Zitong, and Baishui from Guanghan commandary, formed a new Hande county, and organized all of them into the new Zitong commandary; he also renamed Jiameng to Hanshou county. He also split off the counties of Dangqu, Xuanhan, and Hanchang from Shu commandary and organized them into the new Dangqu commandary, and although he soon abolished this commandary, these counties were now placed under Baxi commandary.
In Jin's third year of Taishi (267), they split off [the northern] part of Yizhou to form the new province of Lianzhou at Hanzhong. They named Hanshou to Jinshou, and they split off part of Guanghan commandary to form Xindu commandary.
What follows is the geography of Lianzhou as it existed around the first year of Taikang (280). It administered eight commandaries and forty-four counties, and had a population of 76,300 households.

In the sixth year of Taikang (285), the ninth month, Jin abolished Xindu commandary and combined it into Guanghan commandary. Emperor Hui of Jin later split off the counties of Dangqu, Hanchang, and Xuanhan from Baxi commandary to form Dangqu commandary, and he merged that and the commandaries of Xincheng, Weixing, and Shangyong into Lianzhou. Lianzhou and its counties and commandaries were soon lost to Li Te as well (in ~303). During the Yongjia reign era (307-312), [the Chouchi ruler] Yang Maosou also controlled part of Lianzhou as well. Since many refugees of Jin people (ethnic Han) from Lianzhou and Yizhou came to stay in his domain, Yang Maosou established surrogate versions of both provinces at Southern and Northern Yinping commandaries. After Huan Wen conquered the Shu region (in 347), refugees from the Ba and Han regions were organized into the new Jinchang commandary, which administered the ten counties of Zhangle, Anjin, Yanshou, Anle, Xuanhan, Ningdu, Xinxing, Jiyang, Dongguan, and Yong'an. He also established the counties of Yichang and Jinxing, as part of Baxi commandary. The southeastern part of Deyang commandary was organized into the new Suining commandary. He also established a Jiange county in Jinshou commandary, which was placed under Lianzhou. Later, Emperor Xiaowu split off the northern part of Zitong commandary to form Jinshou commandary, which administered the four counties of Jinshou, Baishui, Shaohuan, and Xing'an. Zitong commandary was shifted to Zitong county, and Jiange county was abolished. He also split off and formed Southern Hanzhong commandary, and he split off parts of Baxi and Zitong commandaries to form Jinshan commandary. During Emperor An's reign, he established the commandaries of Xinba and Wenyang. There were also the four commandaries of Northern Xinba, Huayang, Southern Yinping, and Northern Yinping. And later, ten commandaries were established: Baqu, Huai'an, Songxi, Baishui, Shangluo, Northern Shangluo, Southern Dangqu, Huaihan, Xinxing, and Ankang.

NINGZHOU
All during the Han and Cao-Wei dynasties, this region was part of the province of Yizhou. In Jin's seventh year of Taishi (271), since Emperor Wu felt that Yizhou was too large, he split off the commandaries of Jianning, Xinggu, Yunnan from Yizhou and Yongchang commandary from Jiaozhou and organized them into the new province of Ningzhou.
What follows is the geography of Ningzhou as it existed around the first year of Taikang (280). It administered four commandaries and forty-five counties, and had a population of 83,000 households.

In the third year of Taikang (282), Emperor Wu abolished Ningzhou again; the region became part of Yizhou, while being directly administed by the office of Colonel of Southern Yi Tribes. In the second year of Tai'an (304), Emperor Hui reestablished Ningzhou, and he split off the seven western counties of Jianning commandary to form Yizhou commandary. In the second year of Yongjia (308), Yizhou commandary was renamed to Jinning, and parts of Zangke commandary were split off to form Pingyi and Yelang commandaries. However, this province soon fell under the control of Li Te [should be Li Xiong] as well. Later, Li Shou split off the commandaries of Xinggu, Yongchang, Yunnan, Zhuti, Yuegui, and Heyang to form the new province of Hanzhou. In the fourth year of Xiankang (338), he also split off the commandaries of Zangke, Yelang, Zhuti, and Yuegui to form the new province of Anzhou. In the eighth year of Xiankang (342), he folded that back into Ningzhou, returned Yuegui commandary to Yizhou, and abolished Yongchang commandary. [Ningzhou was later reclaimed by Jin.]

Liu Yuan founds the fourth Han
Narrative and discussion
Situation autumn 304
Liu Yuan's earliest followers
Most of Liu Yuan's earliest followers who are mentioned by name in the sources came from the royal Liu clan, and initially carried traditional Xiongnu noble titles. According to JS097, below the Shanyu, the Xiongnu leaders were ranked as follows:
1-2: Worthy King賢王 of the Left and Right
3-4: Yili King奕蠡王 of the Left and Right
5-6: Yulu King於陸王 of the Left and Right
7-8: Jianshang King漸尚王 of the Left and Right
9-10: Shuofang King朔方王 of the Left and Right
11-12: Dulu King獨鹿王 of the Left and Right
13-14: Xianlu King顯祿王 of the Left and Right
15-16: Anle King安樂王 of the Left and Right
Worthy King of the Left (Rank 1), was usually reserved for the Shanyu's designated heir. The Liu Yuan biographies states that Liu Yuan had inherited this title from his father, Liu Bao.
JS102 states that when Liu Yuan was appointed Northern Shanyu, his son Liu Cong became Worthy King of the Right (Rank 2) - Liu Cong might have been Liu Yuan's most talented son, but he was not his firstborn. When Liu Yuan became to Great Shanyu, Liu Cong became Luli King鹿蠡王, I believe this title is the same as JS097's Yili King奕蠡王 (Rank 3-4)
Liu Xuan, Liu Yuan's uncle, was Worthy King of the Right, either from before or from Liu Yuan arriving at Lishi. Probably this is the reason for Liu Cong's apparent demotion.
Liu Hong was Yulu King of the Left (Rank 5)
Liu Jing was Yulu King of the Right (Rank 6)
Liu Yannian was Dulu King of the Left (Rank 11). TPYL preserves a snippet from his SLGCQ biography. Liu Yannian's parents died when he was 14 sui, so Yannian grew up with his uncle – he and Liu Yuan apparently were not close relatives. Later on Yannian's son Liangsun and his uncle's grandson were kidnapped by a man-eating (!?) thief, it seems both the uncle and the uncle's son had died by this point. When Yannian pursued and pressed the thief to release his cousin's son rather than his own, the thief released both.
Wang Yu
Among Liu Yuan's earliest followers was also one Wang Yu from Jingzhao in Guanzhong. Wang Yu has a biography in JS089, the collected biographies of the Loyal and Righteous. I believe his biography derives from the SLGCQ.
Wang Yu's parents died while he was still a child, and he was forced to seek hire as a sheep shepherd. But he became so distraught at not going to school that he lost the sheep he was supposed to look after. When the owner confronted him with it, Wang Yu offered to sell himself into slavery to pay for the sheep. A local gentleman, Xu Zizhang, was so impressed that he paid off the sheep and provided Wang Yu with the same education as his own children.
Wang Yu grew to a height of 8 chi, and his beard was 3 chi long. He married a niece of Xu Zizhang. The Grand Warden of the commandery, Du Xuan, appointed Wang Yu his Master of Accounts, this was one of the highest positions on the commandery staff.
Later on Du Xuan was demoted to Prefect of Wannian, a county in Jingzhao, the reason is not stated, but he apparently kept Wang Yu on his staff. When another county Prefect, Wang You came to visit him. Du Xuan did not go out to meet him in person but sent Wang Yu instead. Previously when Du Xuan was Grand Warden, he had been Wang You's superior, but now they were equal, and Wang You became angry that Du Xuan would not meet him in person. Wang Yu was furious and drew his sword, quoting the old saying “When the Lord is humiliated, the Subject dies.” Wang You, rather than humiliate his former lord, should try speaking to Wang Yu's blade instead. Wang Yu would have killed him if Du Xuan had not come down and begged him to stop.
Wang Yu was later recognized for his abilities by the Minister over the Masses, Wang Hun (sigh), and became a county Prefect. Wang Hun was Minister over the Masses from 290 until his death in 297. Sometime after that, Wang Yu joined Sima Ying at Ye, who appointed him General who Excites the Martial.
When Liu Yuan had been appointed Northern Shanyu and was about to leave for Lishi, Wang Yu advised Sima Ying that he should be sent along with him to press him on. Sima Ying agreed and appointed Wang Yu General who Rout the Caitiffs.
Early warfare against Sima Teng
There seems to have been some fighting between Liu Yuan and Sima Teng's forces after Liu Yuan's arrival at Lishi.
According to ZZTJ085, Liu Yuan dispatched the Yulu King of the Left, Liu Hong, with 5 000 elite cavalry to join up with Wang Cui, one of Sima Ying's generals, and resist Sima Teng. However Wang Cui was defeated before Liu Hong could reach him, so Liu Hong had to turn back without accomplishing anything.
According to WS001, Sima Teng asked the Tuoba Xianbei for help against Liu Yuan. In response, Tuoba Yitou came south with a host of 100 000 cavalry, surely a vastly exaggerated number, and routed Liu Yuan's forces in Xihe and Shangdang. WS001 dates this to after Liu Yuan taking the title King of Han at Lishi, but I believe this is an inaccuracy by WS001, and that it really refers to Liu Yuan becoming Shanyu. The other sources are all quite clear that Liu Yuan only became king after Emperor Hui's return to Luoyang.
The Tuoba in the early 4th century.
During the 3rd century the Tuoba branch of the Xianbei had settled in the former Han commandery of Yunzhong. In the early 5th century they would eventually conquer northern China found the Northern Wei empire. The history of Northern Wei is chronicled in the Weishu, written by Wei Shou during Northern Qi, a successor state of Northern Wei.
The early history of the Tuoba before the founding of Northern Wei is covered in the first scroll of the Weishu, titled the Preliminary Annals. Weishu and the Preliminary Annals have been roundly criticized for exaggerating the power of the Tuoba, and treating them as a dynastic empire rather than a tribal confederacy, including titling the Tuoba chieftains as emperors.
At the beginning of the 4th century leadership of the Tuoba was divided among three chiefs, Yitou (“Emperor Huan”), his younger brother Yilu (“Emperor Mu”) and their uncle Luguan (“Emperor Luguan”). Though WS001 considers Luguan the senior among them, Yitou may have been the one actually most powerful.
Fall of Sima Ying
Meanwhile, things had not gone well for Sima Ying. Wang Jun had appointed his Master of Accounts, Qi Hong, to lead his armies, and Qi Hong defeated all of Sima Ying's generals sent against him. As Sima Ying prepared to retreat to Luoyang, his remaining soldiers abandoned him. In the end Sima Ying fled with Emperor Hui and only small retinue. After an arduous journey, they arrived in Luoyang where they were greeted by Sima Yong's general Zhang Fang. Sima Ying's time as an independent actor was over.
Liu Yuan breaks with the Jin
We are told that when Liu Yuan heard of Sima Ying's defeat, he complained that Sima Ying was a man of small talents, who had ignored his advice and been defeated as a result. Still, he felt himself bound by his promise to help him. Liu Yuan therefore prepared to send Liu Jing and Liu Yannian with an army of 20 000 against the Xianbei.
At this point Liu Xuan protests against further allegiance to the Jin. The Jin have lost the Way, the Sima clan is tearing itself apart. Clearly Heaven has abandoned Jin, this is the moment for the Shanyu to restore the Xiongnu to independence.
In his reply, Liu Yuan asks why he should be content with just being Shanyu of the Xiongnu. Emperors have come from the barbarians in the past. He already have an army of 100 000, and one of the Xiongnu is worth ten of the Jin, destroying the Jin will be like snapping deadwood. At best he could become the new Emperor Gao, Liu Bang, the Han founder, at worst he'll be the new Cao Cao. The differences between the Xiongnu and the people of Jin could be a problem. However the Han still has a high reputation, as shown by how Liu Bei could hold out while controlling only a single province. Liu Yuan is himself descended from Han princesses, and in the past the Xiongnu Shanyus had sworn to be brothers with the Han Emperors. When the older brother dies, the younger brother inherits, Liu Yuan can take up the legacy of the Han and satisfy the people's expectations.
Yu the Great was the legendary founder of the Xia, while King Wen was the founder of the Zhou. I am not sure why Yu is said here to have come from the Western Rong and to have been born among the eastern Yu. Shiji claims Yu was the grandson of Emperor Zhuanxu while King Wen's ancestors came from the Wei valley.
Zhaolie, “Bright and Ardent” was the posthumous title bestowed on Liu Bei as Emperor of Han.
The Later Ruler is Liu Shan, Liu Bei's son and successor. Since he surrendered to Wei and died a retired pensioner of the Jin, he had never received a posthumous title as emperor. In his Sanguo Zhi, Chen Shou titles Liu Bei and Liu Shan as the Former and the Later Ruler as a way to recognize them as rulers without accepting their legitimacy as emperors.
Founding the Fourth Han
After this, Liu Yuan started the formal process of founding his new state of Han. He moved to Zuoguocheng, located not very far from Lishi, I guess due to that site's status as the former seat of the Southern Shanyu. There he built an altar at the southern suburbs and formally acceded as King of Han. His ascension document, quoted in JS101, is basically a mini-history of Han.
Taizu, Emperor Gao, Liu Bang (r. 202 – 195 BC), is of course the founder of the whole Han. He is often known as Gaozu, but that is strictly speaking not one of his official names.
Taizong, Emperor Xiaowen, Liu Heng (r. 180 – 157 BC) is credited as a benign ruler who brought stability to the realm after the fall of the Lü clan.
Shizong, Emperor Xiaowu, Liu Che (r. 141 – 87 BC), during his long reign the Han empire expanded in all directions. The ascension document states that he “repelled the yi”, most famous among these yi were of course the Xiongnu, Liu Yuan's own anscestors. Tang here refers to the legendary Emperor Yao.
Zhongzong, Emperor Xiaoxuan, Liu Xun (r. 74 – 49 BC), has a reputation as a hardworking emperor who promoted and listened to good officials.
The Three Kings I assume is synonymous with the Three August Ones, who together with the Five Emperors in traditional historiography were China's earliest ruler. These were succeeded by the Xia, Shang and then Zhou, whose ruling house was the Ji clan.
Emperor Yuan (r. 48 – 33 BC) and Emperor Cheng (r. 33 – 7 BC) were rather run of the mill emperors. The short reigned Emperor Ai (r. 7 – 1 BC) was succeeded by the child-emperor Emperor Ping “the Pacifying Emperor” (r. 1 BC – 5 AD). Emperor Ping's death opened the path for his regent Wang Mang (r. 9 – 23 AD) to end Western Han and found his own Xin empire.
Wang Mang's reign ended in natural disasters and rebellions. The chaos that followed ended with Liu Xiu, Shizu, Emperor Guangwu (r. 25 – 57), reuniting the empire and becoming the second Han founder.
The reign of his two successors, Xianzong, Emperor Xiaoming (r. 57 – 75) and Suzong, Emperor Xiaozhang (r. 75 – 88) were considered the golden age of Eastern Han. Emperors He (r. 88 – 106) and An (r. 106 – 125) again were pretty average rulers.
We then jump ahead to the Yellow Turban rebellion in 184 of course was a severe blow to Han. Criticizing the eunuchs and Dong Zhuo is obligatory. Since idea here is to continue the legacy of the Han, Cao Cao and his family are also cast as usurpers.
Liu Xie, Emperor Xiaomin (r. 189 – 220, d. 237) was the final Eastern Han emperor, who after sepnding most of his life as a puppet ruler, abdicated in favour of Cao Pi and Wei in 220. He is usually known as Emperor Xian, “the Presenting”, the posthumous title conferred on him by Wei. However, as Wei is to be considered illegitimate, he is here instead referred to by the posthumous title given him by Liu Bei: Xiaomin, the Filial and Dismayed Emperor.
As mentioned above, Zhaolie was Liu Bei's posthumous title, while Liu Shan did not have one, so he's referred to as the Later Emperor. Shu-Han fell to Wei in 263, 41 years before Liu Yuan taking the title of King of Han.
Liu Yuan also took other formal steps to found his new state. He proclaimed a general amnesty, adopted Yuanxi as his own reign title, and also gave Liu Shan the posthumous title of Emperor Xiaohuai.
He also built temples to the eight emperors highlighted as especially worthy in the ascension document, the three Founders and Five Ancestors. The first and second Founders are Emperors Gao – Taizu, and Guangwu - Shizu. The third founder is Liu Bei whose temple name was Liezu烈祖 – the “Ardent Founder”. There is some uncertainty when Liu Bei acquired this temple name, it is not recorded in the SGZ. It is possible therefore that it was Liu Yuan who first established Liuzu as Liu Bei's temple name. Curiously, Liezu is not recorded in JS101, not in the ascension document or elsewhere. Liu Yuan does however refer to Liu Bei as Liezu in JS100.
Liu Yuan also established his wife Ms. Huyan as Queen. Huyan was also the family name of Liu Yuan's mother. Note that Queen Huyan was not the mother Liu Cong. Cong's mother's family name was Zhang.
Appointments
JS101 also records appointments to the three highest court officials. It seems Liu Yuan followed the Western Han system for his court ranks, where the Imperial Chancellor ranked highest, followed by the Imperial Clerk Grandee and third the Grand Commandant.
Liu Xuan, the Worthy King of the Right, became Imperial Chancellor.
Cui You of Shangdang became Imperial Clerk Grandee. According to JS101, Cui You had been Liu Yuan's teacher, and must have been a very old man in 304. He has a biography in JS091 probably derived from the SLGCQ. Cui You had been an official at the end of Wei, eventually becoming magistrate of a minor county, but had to retire due illness and poor health. He however continued studying into his old age, compiling a Chart of Mourning Clothes. JS91 records that he declined the appointment as Imperial Clerk Grandee, and died at home on an unspecified date, aged 93.
Liu Hong, the Yulu King of the Left, became Grand Commandant.
ZZTJ085 lists some further appointments to some lower-level posts. I suspect most, if not all, of these appointments have been added from individual biographies. As such, some of these appointments may have taken place later.
Fan Long became Great Herald, Zhu Ji Grand Master of Ceremonies. These were two of the Nine Ministers. Fan Long of Yanmen and Zhu Ji of Shangdang had been fellow students of Cui Yu with Liu Yuan. Fan Long has a biography in JS091 probably derived from the SLGCQ. Fan Long lost both parents by the age of four and grew up with a distant kinsman. He became a scholar and wrote on the Spring and Autumn annals and the Rites. When the Jin civil wars broke out, Fan Long avoided involvement. He and his friend Zhu Ji were once walking in the mountains when they saw an old man. The old man asked what the two dukes were doing there, then he disappeared. Both Fan Long and Zhu Ji were later made dukes by Liu Yuan.
Cui Yizhi and Chen Yuanda became Gentlemen of the Yellow Gates. The Gentlemen of the Yellow Gates were attendants and advisors of the ruler.
Cui Yizhi of Tunliu in Shangdang is mentioned early in JS101 as one of the judges of characters who assessed Liu Yuan in his youth as an extraordinary person. I could find no other mention outside the ZZTJ of his appointment to Gentleman of the Yellow Gates.
Chen Yuanda was Xiongnu of the Rear Section. (The same as the Southern Section? Or maybe the Northern Section?) He as a biography appended to JS102, probably derived from the SLGCQ. His original family name was Gao, but apparently his birth month was in some way inauspicious to his father, so that it was changed to Chen. Chen Yuanda grew up orphaned and impoverished, but did still found the time to study.
His biography in JS102 is mostly a collection of stories involving him and Liu Yuan or Liu Cong. According to one, when Liu Yuan was Worthy King of the Left, he summoned Chen Yuanda, but Yuanda did not answer. When Liu Yuan became King of Han, people said that he would not get a new summoning now. Chen Yuanda replied that he had recognized Liu Yuan's worth a long time ago, but had not answered the summons because there was nothing he could have helped him with, a latter would surely arrive within two or three days. The summons from Liu Yuan came that evening. Another story records Chen Yuanda's answer to a question from Liu Yuan on why he had accepted a position as low as Gentleman of the Yellow Gates.
Liu Yao became General who Establishes the Martial. This introduces the final of the Han-Zhao rulers. Liu Yao has his own Yearly Annals in JS103. His early life as narrated there have many common elements with those of Liu Yuan and Liu Cong.
Liu Yao was a relative Liu Yuan, though the specific link, or even the name of Liu Yao's father is not recorded. It is told that at the age of eight sui he accompanied Liu Yuan on a hunt. When thunder shook the tree they were standing under, only Liu Yao of the party remained composed, which caused Liu Yuan to exclaim that his cousin was still alive. This cousin was presumably Liu Yao's deceased father. The precise word used for cousin here congxiong從兄 might even indicate that Liu Yao came from a senior branch of the family to that of Liu Yuan.
Liu Yao's height is recorded at a very impressive 9 chi, 3 cun (c. 225 cm!) which makes him the tallest man on record in the Jinshu. And when he was born with white eyebrows and a red shine to his eyes. Like Liu Yuan and Liu Cong, Liu Yao is said to have mastered both the civil and martial arts. He was was good with both the draft and clerical styles of calligraphy, a very strong archer, and could recite military books from memory.
One story tells that Liu Yao would scoff at Wu Han and Deng Yu, two generals instrumental in the founding of Eastern Han, and compare himself to Yue Yi, a statesman and general of the Warring States era, and Xiao He and Cao Shen, the famous chancellors from the founding of Western Han. But only Liu Cong agreed with Liu Yao's high estimation of himself, comparing him favourably to Shizu (Guangwu of Han) and Wu of Wei (Cao Cao).
As a youth, Liu Yao travelled to Luoyang, but was convected of an unspecified crime and sentenced to execution. He managed to escape and hid in Zhaoxian in Lelang in the far north-east. There he took up job as a county soldier until an amnesty allowed him to return.
At this point Liu Yao apparently thought that the times he lived in would not tolerate a man of his ability, so he hid in the Guancen Mountains, from where the Fen river springs, and spent his time playing the zither and reading books. One night, two boys came, claiming to be messengers from the King of Guancen, I assume the local mountain god, bringing a magic sword as a gift.

O Herr, mir ist bange! Tritt als Bürge für mich ein! Jesaja 38,14

“WAS!
Ende.

𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒂𝒏𝒆 was a spot that was filled with all kinds of people. all kinds of wild backstories. all kinds of brutal murderers and god knows what else. && those people, those were her 𝚙𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚜. alana might be five feet tall and petite, but her actions shone 𝟏𝟎 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐓 𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐋 & 𝖇𝖚𝖑𝖑𝖊𝖙𝖕𝖗𝖔𝖔𝖋. she was currently in a therapy session with one of her more meek and mild patients at the bshci, they were in the middle of what alana thought might be some genuine progress when suddenly she hears a bang on the door. she pays it no mind. but then the door 𝑠𝑙𝑎𝑚𝑠 open. and security runs after the patient who just escaped from alana’s room, but that wasn’t on her radar right now. alana was pinned down on the ground by her wrists. it was richard ziegler. he’s frothing at the mouth, frothing. asking her how dare she spend time with another man more than him. that she didn’t care about him at all. that she never did. all in 𝐆𝐄𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐍, mind you, because they didn’t need anyone knowing their business. she’s numb. scared shitness, of course. but remains calm. remains cool. ’ ( who the hell are you to interrupt me with a patient like that ? ) she’s seething in return. german, broken, but doing the best she can. sie sind nicht der einzige patient, den ich habe, richard ! ( you’re not the only patient i have, richard ! )

“Bei watched as his partner, his sextant, and quite possibly his future went over the side of a damn boat he didn’t even own. Bei realized then that these were the worries of a man concerned with survival. A-ha! A contradiction! A point of illogic! What did it mean? What could it mean? Did he actually want to live?”
