call the midwife season 13 just dropped on netflix and it has me on a rollercoaster of emotions with trixie’s entire storyline.
like i’m sobbing because we’ve come so far and she’s grown so much and i love her relationship with matthew—BUT LIKE HOW CAN THEY GIVE US THIS FREAKING NEW YORK STORYLINE???
i was rooting for matthew’s downton abbey social ruin storyline 100% in hopes of him and trixie getting closer with the lack of money, really poetically embodying the wedding vows. AND MATTHEW’S MAN PAIN, DISAPPOINTMENT, AND SELF HATRED AT LOSING HIS ROLE IN HIS FAMILY’S COMPANY AND HIS OWN FORTUNE? chef’s kiss.
but i swear to god, they need to fix this. i’m on episode 8, one episode left, and if they don’t save trixie’s story i will riot. i have not been on the trixie stan team for 13 fucking seasons for it to all end like this.
in other news, i adore the new midwives.

In another universe, Trixie married the dentist Christopher Dockerill and they were granted partial custody of his daughter, who was able to overcome her mother's prejudice. Trixie went on to be accepted into medical school, one day opening a women's health clinic that served all women of Polar. 💛💛💛

Just your local die-hard, been-watching-since-the-first-episode, absolute adorer of Call the Midwife for a decade... popping back into the fandom to say!:
They've murdered Trixie's entire character if they set her up with Aylward. Trixie - the most stringent supporter of women (on a show about women supporting women), would NEVER go with a man who was not only her deceased patient's husband, but also her deceased FRIEND'S husband. There are two lines there - professional and personal - that she would not cross.
Secondly, wasn't he revealed to literally be a slum landlord?! My gal Trix would NEVER even TOUCH that man after that was revealed. She'd be close to straight-up murdering him! After all we've seen of her and after all she's seen of poverty-stricken women struggling to live - DYING, she's seen friends and patients DIE in those conditions - she would simply never go with a man who was the DIRECT CAUSE of that. She loves her job and her patients too much.
Honestly it all feels like a betrayal of her character and it's really breaking my heart to know that Heidi either doesn't care about Trixie as a character OR doesn't understand her as a person enough to know that this entire storyline would be disgusting to her.
Also ya know that the middle aged straight women think Aylward is hot therefore it doesn't matter that he's a useless wet blanket and recently-widowed slum owner. Easy to see why they don't care about this major sellout of Trixie's character when they'd do the same.
I hate this story with enough passion to actually quit the show if they go there. Thanks Heidi.

I have had this sitting in my drafts since I wrote it. I believe back during season 10. I think we all had an idea that it was going to end up where it did, but this was my pre them being a couple post.
Just yesterday I was thinking about Trixie and the relationship/friendship she has with Matthew Aylward. This man who is a widower of her patient, rich from old family businesses and having a very hard time grieving and moving forward.
This episode has their paths cross in a very different way. Professionally. We have seen he is wanting a different life than he had for his child and by the end we can see he wants to change not just himself but the way his family is handling their business practices.
Although Trixie loves her fashion and possessions she knows the reality of life through the eyes of her patients. She’s seen it all. Her advice is very obviously important to Mr. Aylward as is her opinion.
Trixie is the only one who seems to understand Matthew’s grief. She sees his love for his son and the changes he wants to make in his life. The support she has for him seems to be leading in a very specific direction.
After Christopher, I didn’t really see Trixie with someone who didn’t already have a child. As we know, she’s getting older which mean the men she will date would be older as well. During that time, you got married and had children young so the likelihood of her finding someone without a child is less than it would be today.
I know most people may not be of the same opinion as me, but I support the Trixie and Matthew relationship. Ok shoot me!! Haha.
They have not rushed anything. They have not indicated that their is anything there but friendship which is very very very important in my book. He is still grieving and needs to live through that before any type of relationship can work. Maybe a year? I’m not sure but so far I am happy with the way things are playing out.
I think this is the type of relationship Trixie needs. He’s handsome, polite, let’s a woman have her own mind (very important!!) and very much has the type of lifestyle Trixie would love to have. Yes, that’s shallow, but I think she would look at it more to help others (as Matthew did by writing those checks) then for fancy clothes etc. We see both of them changing a little in this category. Would Trixie have ever answered the door like that before? She didn’t like it but she did it! That’s a big step for her!
She loves helping people. She loves children. Maybe she won’t have children of her own but maybe she will. She very much cared for Fiona and knowing her the way she was able to get to know her helps her respect and love the marriage Matthew had with her.
Why would the writers write this whole long thing without a plan? Why would they have this story line play out for so long just to have him write a check?
They wouldn’t. We deserve to see how Trixie’s relationship starts and evolves. She’s been through so much and I want to see her have a deep and very meaningful relationship.
Looking back, I didn’t like her with Tom. Neither of them were able to be their true selves. There were too many difference. I’m glad they were able to see that.
Christopher I think would have worked if it wasn’t for his daughter. She didn’t deserve to be treated and called names by his ex-wife. She didn’t need that drama although he was a good man.
Let’s say this relationship happens. Let’s say it gets to a point of marriage. What would happen to Trixie the Midwife?

Call the Midwife → 7x04
When I first took the veil, I fought it. I performed the tasks required, but inside I resisted every rule and questioned every regulation. It was my nature. And still is. I could always hear God’s voice, I was merely reluctant to let Him have the final word.
