Mattel has finally given us an amputee Barbie whose prosthetic has KNEE ARTICULATION and she immediately SOLD OUT AT PRE-ORDER!
Background: Barbie always has multiple lines running, some for the long haul, some for just a few years. Usually dolls within one line will all have the same level of articulation as each other.
The current basic line, Fashionista (one doll, one outfit, maybe an accessory), has minimal articulation: neck, both hip sockets, both shoulder sockets. Most of the Dreamtopia dolls are like this too.
The "made to move" body type (currently featured in the sports dolls, Looks, and most of the Inspiring Women) has the most articulation. Neck, torso, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle. And the elbows & knees are each two points of articulation. So they can sit cross-legged or seiza.
The Extra/Fancy/Fly lines are in a middle zone. Yes wrist, no ankle, no torso, and the elbows & knees are just one articulation point instead of two. So they can sit on a chair or edge of a shelf, but not cross-legged very easily, and not seiza.
Then there's some further variations for specific playsets. A doll with a violin who has elbow articulation, but not knee. The bathtime doll whose knees bend but elbows don't. Ballerinas with double-articulation knees and single-articulation elbows. Etc.
Several years back Barbie also introduced multiple body types to their adult Barbies (rather than just height differences indicating a little sister). Classic, Curvy, Tall, Petite. Later Hero/Athletic as well. I think Ken even finally has two or maybe even three body types, but don't quote me on that.
The Fashionista line has seen the most disability representation. Barbies & Kens with sculpted-on hearing aids, several prosthetic users, albinism, Down Syndrome (who I believe were sculpted a new body type), wheelchair users*, vitiligo, blindness, and possibly more I haven't come across yet.
*These are the exception to Fashionistas being the minimal articulation, using the made-to-move bodies.
The Chelsea dolls (who replaced Kelly a while back) also have a couple wheelchair users and a Chelsea with a brace for her scoliosis.
So far I don't think Dreamtopia (fantasy stuff like mermaids, fairies, unicorns, princesses, etc) dolls have had disability representation. However, one of the amputee Fashionistas has pink hair and a purple prosthetic, so if a child wants to put her in that playscape she will fit in with the other brightly colored dolls.
NOW, Mattel just announced the DeluxeStyle line. Lots of shiny pink fabric, a few accessories. Four dolls in the initial release, multiple body types. And they have that mid-level articulation I described earlier, like the Extra line (who I suspect they're replacing). So their ankles don't bend, but their knees do. As well as swiveling at the hip sockets.
And one of the dolls. Has a sparkly pink prosthetic leg.
The line is in pre-order. She sold out. So fucking fast. We are HYPED for this doll and I'm really hoping her popularity will mean an expansion of disabled dolls from the Fashionista line to the more complicated ones.

What OP Character Watch : Oppenheimer or Barbie?
feat. luffy, zoro, nami, sanji, usopp, chopper, robin, franky, brook, law (no jimbe cuz i couldn’t decide)
Luffy
— actually idk
— i THOUGHT barbie, but i think he definitely accidentally got oppenheimer tickets and couldn’t tell the difference between the movies 🤷♀️
— when the group was talking about barbie on the way back, luffy was mad confused
Zoro
— barbie
— he cannot watch oppenheimer, his brain will explode
— don’t just don’t y’all
Nami
— barbie
— she’s a fashionista, what’d you expect?
— apart of the margot robbie protection squad
Sanji
— both
— after watching oppenheimer, he takes off his black coat and reveals a pink suit under it to watch barbie in
Usopp
— barbie
— but he definitely lies and says he watched oppenheimer
— easy to catch the lie since the moment you ask questions he flat lines
Chopper
— oppenheimer 😳
— was ready to watch barbie, but he wanted to go wherever robin went…
— had to leave the moment the movie started cuz it was too much
Robin
— as i said, oppenheimer
— gets decked out in a black and white suit
— hot 😝
Franky
— barbie
— pink speedo and everything
— barbie fanatic
Brook
— same as sanji, but reversed
— watches barbie first, and then oppenheimer
— doesn’t change outfit tho he goes in pink
Law
— both, but on two separate days because both of his outfits for each are two lavish to change into so quickly in the movie theater bathrooms
— now i would say he wears his onigashima outfit but in pink and white but he would think of doffy too much so he’d have to change it up.
— but he’d look GREAT, as always for my little fashionista 😚
— a few days later, he goes to watch oppenheimer. instead of the classic suit, he wears his onigashima outfit but in darker colors like black, grays, and deep reds
all right reserved. do not repost or copy my work but relogging, comments or feedback is very much appreciated! Thank you.

Barbie 65th: Classic Swimsuit Barbie
With the upcoming Barbie Fashionistas for her 65th anniversary being inspired by various historical barbies, I decided (by the suggestion of my friend @dollsinvogue) to create helpful infographics to point out the specific inspirations they take! First is obviously the one inspired by the original barbie from 1959

OCtober continues! Although this gal is technically more of my own take on a classic Barbie character than a complete OC. I present to you: Totally Hair Teresa!
I transformed Pop Singer Barbie (which uses the "Neysa" Teresa face mold and a brown skin tone) into a tribute to the 1991 Totally Hair Teresa (Or as she was called then, Brunette Barbie) by rerooting her in extra long, extra soft kanekalon hair in varying stripes of blue, green, and pink--the colors of the 1991 doll's dress. I also repainted her face. Her outfit is from Fashionista 200, with shoes from a random shoe pack from Amazon.
I'm super proud of the effect I got with her hair pattern, hence why I had to find the smallest hair accessories I had to show off styles that highlighted the different stripes!

I have made posts before about Blaine Gordon, Barbie's brief Australian boogie-boarding boyfriend.
In fact I have made more than one, because I love Blaine. I miss him and think he was robbed.
But this is not yet another post about Blaine Gordon: this is about Summer Gordon.
Summer was also released as part of the Cali Girl lineup in 2004, as Aussie Blaine's sister.
In her initial appearances, Summer was depicted as having tan skin and brown hair, but later appearances such as in the Top Model line in 2007 depicted her as having pale skin and more strawberry hair. (I guess her Cali life really helped her tan!)
And then as part of the Fashionistas line, Summer had a more classic blonde hair colour.
Her biggest distinguishing feature at this time to separate her visually from Barbie is that she had brown eyes and a different head sculpt. However, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of kids didn't realise she was a different character to Barbie.
I don't know why Summer gets to hang around when her brother Blaine has been languishing in the discontinued pile. But I do know she is a relatively prominent character in other Barbie media, including some of the Barbie films and Barbie: Life In The Dreamhouse.

not to be ungrateful because i loved the barbie movie, but there's never an asian barbie. i get that simu liu was one of the main kens, and i'm thrilled, but in my eighteen years of life, i've never had an asian barbie. honestly, i didn't grow up thinking i needed representation, but as i got older the people around me and messages i received put more and more stress on how important representation is. i just never had it. no one in media was korean, and i noticed people don't really seem to care about asians if we're the model minority anyway. but as i grew older, it made me more... sad, i guess is the best way to describe it. i was lucky to grow up in a diverse area and in a time where our schools made sure to foster conversations that built on our diversity, but again, no one really cared about asians despite preaching about representation. but i guess asian girls don't need a barbie, if they grow up to become doctors or lawyers or whatever career people like to assume of us.
the only asian doll i had was mulan. and for whatever reason, i'm assuming because she was a disney princess doll, her body proportions were slightly different and it affected small things like how her feet never really fit the other barbie shoes. and the only other asian doll i've ever heard of was one made specially for lunar new year. and again, not to he ungrateful, but i wish there was something a little more normal for an asian doll. like couldn't you just make a doll, and have it be asian, like how normal dolls come in different races? like it doesn't have to be a special occasion like aapi month to make an asian doll. you could just make one. be normal about it. it still feels spectacle-ish. sometimes, it feels like people just tick a checkbox to have their token asian so they can feel good about fostering diversity, but in most spaces that push for diversity, they don't seem to care about asians anyway.
when i was a girl, i loved barbie. i still do. i watched every classic barbie movie a thousand times over. it didn't matter to me that the princess or lead was always blonde. she was everything, from a princess to mermaid to actress to fashionista to musketeer to fairy and she was kind and smart and hardworking and pink, and that's all that mattered. i didn't think she needed to look like me to be happy or think that i, too, could be what i wanted. but it's just, now that people push so much for representation and having characters that look like them, i want that too. and yes, in the beginning scene there were asian background characters that were part of the barbies, but they didn't hire anyone to be an asian barbie as part of the cast. and it just made me a little sad.

Favorite barbie from each decade? like 70s and such?
yay more barbie!!!
ok so…..
60s (not counting 50s cuz she was only around for one year in that decade sooo)
she’s talking barbie!! she had a wind up talking disc in her back and she would talk to you! unfortunately, it’s VERY rare to find her working cuz of how the plastic inside the disc machine itself disintegrates and well……
70s!
superstar barbie (and this is also my fav ken of all time)
ouuugghhh….. everything about her is perfect. her face her outfit her jewelry her sparkly boa….. she’s my most favorite and def a superstar in my collection lol
80s
this is (literally) my peaches n cream !! i had a hard time picking my fav 80s girl…. but this one sums it up! she shows the elegance and glamour of the 80s with the sheer quality that the 80s had….. plus the classic white holographic material they had! she’s just……. a classic
90s
so many fun ones!! but i had to choose songbird barbie…. she was the barbie that started off my whole obsession too!!! i found her at the thrift in 2019 and searched HARD to ID her…. which made me gain a lot of knowledge in barbie and I soon started collecting them little by little and uhhhh well yknow - the 90s had a LOT to offer for barbie at the time, but this one definitely represents the glittery and innocent side of barbie that was played from 90-98!
2000s
the sugar plum princess! now…. the 2000s was def the movie era for barbie and she was well represented in her early movies. the nutcracker movie is my favorite out of them all! plus i was given her as a gift and i fell in love, when i originally was trying to avoid the movies! but oh well, i love her
2010s
the glam swappin styles fashionista from 2011! this was the line from my childhood, i was given the sporty swappin style girl as a gift in 2010 and i still have her! but barbie glam is where my heart lies now…. my actual fav glam fashionista is from 2009 but i didn’t feel like cheating LOL - she’s so epic!!!
im not gonna touch the 2020s bc as you know…. they are kinda ugly and uninspiring rn……. and i feel like the true essence of barbie died off in 2014-2015 with millie </3

I found out that the old made to move basketball player Barbie (I think she's also a soccer player) matches the skin tone for the new blind Barbie Fasionista.
The fashionista head came off pretty easy for me, but I needed hot water and a baggie for the made to move head. They swapped pretty good, the skin tones match pretty much perfectly but I did notice that the made to move head does bobble a little bit on the fashionista body. That's an easy fix though. You just need to put a rubber band on the bottom of the neck peg to make it just a little bit fatter so the head fits better. It doesn't affect how the head moves unless you make the peg too thick for the head with the rubber bands. Then you're gonna run into problems.
The clothes still fit between the two dolls. They both have classic Barbie bodies so any outfits for that body type will fit even if you do leave the Fashionista on the original body. Something to note is that with the made to move body, the joint under the chest is visible with the Fashionista top. So, if that's something that bothers you, I want to be upfront about it. Another thing to note (this is pretty important) is that the handle for the cane does fit the Made to Move hand. She can still hold it regardless of which body you use.
Disclaimer: I'm not sure which of these dolls (basketball player or soccer player) mine is. I got her second hand and she didn't have her clothes but her joints are still good.
But yeah, that's what I did today.
Edit: Just checked the faces. Noticed a difference in the eyes. Mine is the soccer player. The Made to Move soccer player and the blind Fashionista are perfect matches for each other's skin tones.

Barbie Birthday Invitation: A Gateway to a World of Pink, Fun, and Imagination
Every birthday is a milestone, a celebration of life, growth, and the joy of being. For a child, a birthday is not just a day to receive gifts, but a magical time that brings together friends and family in a festivity that reflects their passions and dreams. This year, make your little one's day unforgettable with a Barbie-themed birthday party. Here's your ultimate guide to creating the most enchanting Barbie birthday invitation, setting the stage for an event filled with wonder, adventure, and lots of pink!
Step into Barbie's World
The first step in crafting your Barbie birthday invitations is to immerse yourself in the vibrant and diverse universe of Barbie. With her myriad of careers, adventures, and friends, Barbie has been inspiring children for generations. Whether your child admires Barbie the astronaut, the doctor, or the fashionista, each aspect of Barbie's world offers unique inspirations for your invitations. Consider incorporating elements that resonate with your child's aspirations and dreams, making the invitation a reflection of their own world of possibilities.
Designing the Invitation
The Magic of Pink
Pink, the color most associated with Barbie, should be a dominant element in your invitation design. However, the beauty of a Barbie-themed invitation lies in its versatility. You can incorporate various shades of pink, from soft pastels to vibrant fuchsia, and complement them with accents of white, black, or gold for a touch of elegance. Use glitter, ribbons, or even rhinestones for a bit of sparkle that mimics Barbie's glamorous world.
Imagery and Graphics
Selecting the right images is crucial for setting the tone. You can use classic Barbie silhouettes, iconic logos, or even illustrations that depict Barbie in her various roles. If you're artistically inclined or know someone who is, custom illustrations of your child alongside Barbie can add a personal and unique touch.
Fonts and Typography
The typography on your invitation should reflect the fun and whimsical nature of Barbie. Use fonts that are playful and easy to read, with a touch of elegance to mimic Barbie's chic style. You can find many free fonts online that would fit perfectly within the Barbie theme.
Crafting the Perfect Message
Your invitation should convey all the essential details of the party—date, time, location, and RSVP information—in a way that excites and entices the guests. Use playful language that invites the children to step into Barbie's world for a day. Phrases like "Join us for a day of adventure and style at [Child’s Name]'s Barbie Birthday Bash!" or "Let’s celebrate [Child’s Name]’s birthday in Barbie’s glamorous world!" set the tone for an unforgettable experience.
Making It Interactive
Adding interactive elements to your invitations can elevate them from mere announcements to memorable keepsakes. Consider including stickers, temporary tattoos, or a small DIY craft that guests can wear or bring to the party, such as a paper tiara or a mini Barbie accessory. This not only builds anticipation for the party but also gives the guests a sense of participation from the moment they open their invitations.
Digital vs. Physical Invitations
In today’s digital age, you have the option of sending out digital invitations, which are cost-effective and environmentally friendly. Platforms like Canva or Evite offer customizable Barbie-themed templates that you can personalize and send to your guests with ease. However, if you prefer a more traditional approach, printing your invitations and mailing them or hand-delivering them can add a personal touch that aligns with the tangible nature of playing with Barbies.

Since her upcoming movie is making her popular, Batkid connections to Barbie:
Dick: had some dolls growing up but doesn't have any special attachment to them; buys plenty of them for Roy and Wally's kids though and has fun playing when the kids invite him. Delighted by the diversity included in the Fashionistas line
Barbara: had some dolls as a kid but her main association is hating the rare occasions when people call her Barbie
Steph: grew up watching the classic animated movies, watches the new ones, the vlogs, and the tv shows while high for a laugh but does hold a genuine fondness for them and is very much anticipating the live action movie
Jason: happened to be visiting Steph when she was watching one of the episodes where Skipper gets upset about how she can never live up to her perfect older sister and had a she's just like me for real moment- not that he'd ever admit it. Buys Lian Skipper dolls exclusively because of it
Tim: Joins Steph pretty often but otherwise has no connection
Cass: Also joins Steph, though doesn't smoke most of the time. Appreciates the social lessons some of the vlogs and episodes give
Damian: Thinks Barbie is stupid and for children, but Steph did convince him to watch Great Puppy Adventure sheerly because it has dogs in it and is technically about solving a mystery. Unfortunately, this was followed up by Puppy Chase and he has sworn off the franchise for good
Duke: had some dolls as a kid but doesn't have any attachment to it. Occasionally joins Steph and is excited by how excited she is for the live action movie

Man I miss the Original articulated Barbie Fashionistas line (2009-2013), it was such a great line with so many great dolls and awesome outfits. I get sorta nostalgic looking back on it as it was the big barbie line going on when I was first getting into dolls.
The Blue Dress Girl from Clutch Wave 2 (last 2 pics) was the 3rd ever doll I bought for myself, and still one of my personal favorites (even if her neck is cracked and taped up, her hair is cut, and her dress is falling apart). I remember Getting her at the big lots right by my house in 2013, and being really happy I finally had an articulated barbie. Her Dress has always been one of my favorites about that era, and I really wanna get a 2nd one of her new. I got a Swappin styles Glam from that same store not too long after, and I have one or 2 other original fashionistas dolls. The original 2009 Glam is one of my holy grail dolls, I just Adore everything about her.
The Party Dress Era is just so Iconic, probably the last time barbie was good imo. It really bums me out to see the name used for the really basic and cheap main barbie line going on right now. I hope someday Mattel can climb back up to this level of quality and style for barbie.
